just a few miles away. State Senator John Hoffman and
his wife event were shot multiple times at their home,
now recovering in a local hospital. This video showing their

who authorities say assassinated a beloved Minnesota lawmaker and her husband,

Speaker 4 (04:08):
When they arrived at Melissa's house, they noticed that there

our officers confronted them, the individually immediately fired upon the officers,

Speaker 3 (04:28):
Inside, police finding the bodies a former house speaker Melissa
Hortman and her husband Mark, They say the suspects was

If there's only one officer outside the door, do not
answer the door and call nine one one.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Authlready say they found a hit list inside the vehicle
with names of dozens of Democratic Minnesota law including Congresswoman
Ilhan Omar and Senator Tina Smith. Sources tell ABC News
that abortion providers were also on that list, and law
enforcement is looking into whether the suspect may have been
motivated by extreme views on abortion. Police say they also

(05:16):
found these flyers in the vehicle for the No King's
Day protest taking place today, Organizers in Minnesota canceling them

This was an active, targeted political violence.

and a sense of service. She was a formidable public servant,
a fixture, and a giant in Minnesota. She is irreplaceable

prayers are with her family, her loved ones, her children,
and her.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Parents and in place.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Order just lifted, even though that suspect still on the
run at this hour, as this urgent investigation continues here
in Brooklyn Park, the FBI offering fifty thousand dollars for
information leading to that suspects arrest, releasing these images just
from a few hours ago of that suspect wearing a
cowboy hat. They say he is armed and dangerous and

(06:22):
do not approach him wit and.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
That neighborhood still on edge faith in Bouve. Thank you.
We move now to other major news on this Saturday night.
Massive crowds gathering from coast to coast for those so
called No Kings Day protests, counterprogramming to the military parade
in Washington, d C. Marking the Army's two hundred and
fiftieth birthday protests planned in all fifty states, and law

(06:44):
enforcement on high alert. ABC's Matt Gutman is in Los
Angeles tonight.

Speaker 6 (06:50):
Tonight, thousands of protests taking place nationwide against the Trump
administration's policies and perceived overreach and to counterprogram. The president's
military parade in la was sh from Atlanta to New
York and Durham, North Carolina. From Frisco, Texas and Angola,
Indiana in the center of the country to San Diego
on the West coast. Overall, more than two thousand separate

(07:14):
demonstrations of different sizes in all fifty states today, according
to the organizers of the so called No King's Protests,
voicing opposition to Trump's agenda.

Speaker 7 (07:26):
We're advocating for the rights of our immigrant families.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
I'm a proud American that I'm not very happy with
things that are going on in our country.

Speaker 6 (07:35):
And today the President seeming to blink on his immigration crackdown. Today,
DHS officials confirming to ABC News the President told ICE
to pause most raids on farms, hotels, and restaurants. Protesters
marching right up to the President's doorstep. Demonstrators today near
mar Lago, at times standing face to face with the

(07:55):
line of heavily armed officers. In Minnesota, many of the
planned demonstrations were canceled due to that horrific shooting after
authorities say they found flyers for the protests in a
vehicle at the scene. And in Austin, the Texas State
Capitol evacuated after authorities there say they identified a credible
threat towards state lawmakers planning to attend the protest. And

(08:18):
here in Los Angeles and estimated twenty thousand gathering, and
we were there as the throng arrived outside the Federal Building.
Nine hundreds of people flopping right here to the Federal Building.
Guarding the lobby are active due to US Marines, and
you can hear the crowd chant shame on you. Tensions
in the city still high amid a week of immigration

(08:40):
protests that have led to clashes between police and demonstrators.
And with despite the obvious tension behind me, we sent
tens of thousands of protesters out here in the streets
of Los Angeles and it has been absolutely peaceful. Police
have taken a.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Very hands off approach.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
Still, the LAPD says the curfew that's been an effectual
the hearts of downtown LA will remain in effect tonight
and into tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Wait, Matt Gutman, and I thank you now to that
elaborate military parade in Washington, DC, a celebration of the
Army's two hundred and fiftieth anniversary, falling on Flag Day
and President Trump's seventy ninth birthday. Here's ABC's senior White
House correspondent Selina Way.

Speaker 8 (09:21):
Tonight an unprecedented show of military mighty as President Trump's
massive army parade gets underway, thousands of soldiers, tanks, and
fighter jets rolling through the nation's capital. The official reason
for the parade marking the Army's two hundred and fiftieth anniversary,
but it also happens to be Flag Day and President
Trump's seventy ninth birthday. Thousands braving the stormy forecast to

(09:43):
get a glimpse of the festivities. It's a show of
force Trump has long wanted after he attended France's annual
Bastille Day parade in twenty seventeen. Even though parades like
this are rare in the US and our fixtures and
authoritarian regimes, the Army estimates it will cause taxpayers as
much as forty five million dollars. A new apnoor SA

(10:04):
poll finds Americans divided six and ten say the parade
is not a good use of government funds.

Speaker 9 (10:11):
Forty five million dollars for a parade, for God's sake,
money should be put in defense medical research.

Speaker 8 (10:16):
Democrats slamming the price tag as his administration slashes programs
for veterans healthcare and jobs at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Crowns of vets protesting the parade and the Trump administration.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
I feel like it's my responsibility to be out here
to to remind people and then just to try to
uphold that for a law and constitution.

Speaker 8 (10:35):
And overnight, dozens of US veterans arrested outside of the
Capitol as they demonstrated against the celebration, including this eighty
seven year old man with the walker handcuffed and taken
away by police and with just hours before the parade started,
President Trump posted on social media that Russia's Vladimir Putin
called him to wish him a happy birthday, saying they

(10:57):
also spoke about the war in Ukraine and tensions in
the Middle East. According to Russian state media, Vladimir Putin
said that Russia is ready to mediate between Israel and Iran.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
With Selina Wang. Thank you now to the thousands gathering
for that military parade. ABC Stephanie Ramos joins US now
from Washington along the parade route and Stephanie, what are
we going to see tonight?

Speaker 10 (11:22):
Well, to celebrate the Army's anniversary, more than six thousand
soldiers from across the country, dressed in modern and historic
uniforms from every major conflict involving the US military, will
march in this parade right behind me on Constitution Avenue.
The parade includes more than two dozen tanks in the
streets of Washington, twenty eight Striker combat vehicles, twenty eight

(11:42):
Bradley fighting vehicles, in a range of other vehicles, horses, mules,
and aircraft. This is the largest display of military might
since the end of the Gulf War in nineteen ninety one.
The parade also looking to the future.

Speaker 8 (11:54):
Those who have.

Speaker 10 (11:54):
Recently enlisted or are re enlisting will stop turned to
the reviewing stand and will be sworn in by the
President himself with.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Our Stephanie Ramos, who is also an Army major in
the reserve. Thank you for your service and for your
reporting tonight and ABC News Live lab special coverage celebrating
the Army's two hundred and fiftieth streaming now across multiple platforms.
Now to the fast moving developments in the Middle East,
Israel and Iran launching a barrage of counter strikes. This
video appearing to show the interception of a drone over Israel.

(12:26):
Iran now canceling those nuclear talks with the US scheduled
for tomorrow. ABC's Marcus Moore is in Tel Aviv tonight.

Speaker 11 (12:35):
Tonight, Iran calling off Sunday's scheduled talks with the US
as Israel and Iran launched new waves of attacks. Iranian
state media airing this video of an Israeli drone strike
on a natural gas plant as Israel continues its attacks
and tonight, these before and after satellite images show damage
to a Revolutionary Guard facility. Israel also claiming to have

(12:57):
killed at least nine Iranian nuclear scientists, Iran saying at
least sixty people have been killed. Tehran retaliating with attacks
throughout Israel. This Iranian drone intercepted over in Israeli kibbutz.
But this area outside Tel Aviv hit hard. We saw
the damage firsthand. You can see the buildings heavily damaged
in the distance there, those cars destroyed and debris everywhere.

(13:21):
Now I am the colautoral damage.

Speaker 9 (13:22):
I look glorified at what happens in Gaza, but now
it's like in Mai Bakador.

Speaker 11 (13:27):
At least three Israelis have been killed and dozens injured.
The unrest in the Middle East causing crude oil prices
to rise, Friday prices jumping over seven percent, The tensions
leading to heightened security in New York City with increased
police presence at Jewish Science and when late tonight, Iran
launching another attack, this time in northern Israel. Israeli officials

(13:48):
say at least fourteen people have been injured. Meanwhile, back
in the US, because of the heightened tensions, Northern Command
announces boosting security at US military bases.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
With Marcus Moore. Thank you to the severe weather threat
with heavy rain in the East and flood alerts for
parts of the mid Atlantic and lightning nearly struck this
man and Fort Morgan, Colorado. Let's get right to meteorologist
Jeff Smith from our New York station WABC, and Jeff's
some dangerous conditions expected overnight.

Speaker 9 (14:16):
Yeah, you mentioned Colorado. That's where we have a newly
issued severe thunderstorm watch. Right now, Northeastern Colorado, Eastern parts
of Wyoming, Western parts of Nebraska could be two inch
hal could be winds gusting up to seventy miles per
hour in those areas. Flooding a concern near the nation's
capital for all those big festivities Tonight could be one
to three inches of rain there. Meanwhile, out west, it's
the heat. Nine million people under extreme heat warnings from

(14:38):
southern California to southern parts of Arizona, where we're talking
about not only triple digit heat but well into the
triple digits for places like Phoenix tomorrow, Monday into Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Really a mixed bag across the country. Jeff Smith, thank you,
We appreciate it. Overseas. Now to that horrific plane crash
in India. More than two hundred and seventy people died
after the Air India flight fell from the sky. Recovery
teams are on the scene amid the painstaking task of
identifying the victims, and tonight we hear from the grieving
families it issues. James Longman reports from India the.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Death toll from the Air India disaster and now stands
at two hundred and seventy five Tonight, although the ferocity
of the explosion means many bodies have yet to be
formally identified. DNA testing is now underway so remains can
be returned to grieving families. Schools on the ground were
killed and injured. Two like sir Esh's wife and son.

Speaker 7 (15:29):
This gentleman's wife ran a tea store for forty years
right near the medical college. Their son, fifteen years old,
went to find her. He's been killed and she's in
the ICU.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
This video of his wife, Sita has gone viral in India.
You can see her in the street desperate for help.
Sir Eshe says, she ran back into the fire for
their son Akash. Please a picture of him.

Speaker 7 (15:52):
That's him, Matt.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
A moment later, another family member shows me her phone.
They're showing me some very.

Speaker 7 (15:58):
Distressing videos there, including what this lady says is that
fifteen year old boy his body in the street.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
Sanjay was there when the plane came down. He rushed
to action, jet fuel turning everything to fire and ash.
He says he pulled twenty eight bodies from the wreckage.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
And this man with his bare hands is pulling out
the charred remains of some of the people who've been killed.
I mean, this tragedy has required extraordinary courage from ordinary
people and with an American team from the NTSB is
flying in to help with the investigation, so these families
can get.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Some of the answers they need with heartbreaking images there,
James Longman, thank you. There is still much more ahead
on world news tonight this Saturday, including the fire that
shook up tourists on the Las Vegas Strip, and the
first American Pope delivers a heartfelt message to his hometown Chicago.
Next night, tourists were rattled overnight on the Las Vegas Strip.

(16:55):
Police say someone threw fireworks from a vehicle early this morning,
setting two palm trees on fire outside the Aria Resort
and Casino. The flames were quickly put out, no injuries reported.
Investigators say they're looking for a car that was seen
driving away from the scene. When we come back. A
homecoming of sorts for Pope Leo, his message of hope

(17:16):
to the faithful, to the index now, and Pope Leo
appeared at his favorite ballpark today in a recorded address.
The Pope spoke to the faithful at the stadium where
the Chicago White Sox play. Leo grew up just outside Chicago.
He directed his message to those who suffer from depression
or sadness, saying the love of God is truly healing

(17:39):
and brings hope still ahead from every corner of the world.

Millions of soldiers over generations living by that motto. This
will defend now. Celebrating that two hundred and fifty year
legacy and honoring those who've sacrificed for some service is
a long family tradition. The Maces have served in almost
every major American conflict.

Its special to me because I have an ancestor of
five times great grandfather who was there at.

Speaker 9 (18:37):
Day one, nineteen April.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
He was there in Lexington's circus.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
It's exciting in the sky, the iconic Golden Knights performing
and competing in skydiving across the globe. We want to
connect America's army with America's people and show them what
we are more than what they see in the movies.
Are Matt Gutman jumping with the Elite team ahead of
the anniversary.

Speaker 6 (19:01):

We like to think of ourselves as a bright shiny object.

Speaker 7 (19:13):
Hey, look at us.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
What was the bright shiny object two hundred and fifty
years ago?

Speaker 1 (19:17):
The bright shiny object was freedom and we are grateful.
