Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, what's going on you guys. This is Joseph Vonner
and welcome to this show. So on this show, we're
going to be talking about the five benefits of writing poetry. Now,
this is a little bit of a spoiler alert. I'm
only going to give you three here and then I'm
gonna actually encourage you to check out the rest of
them on foundermagazine dot org. Let's get into it. Number one,
what's the benefits of writing poetry? One of the things
(00:22):
I love about writing poetry is that actually helps you
to connect with your emotions. You know, we are going
through so much, especially right now in twenty twenty two.
You know, life is hitting everybody at different paces, and
we're facing things this year that we've never face in
our entire life. And so I think a lot of
us out here are actually looking for positive, instructive ways
to express ourselves without resulting to violence and aggression and
(00:48):
you know, irritation, things of that nature. And so because
there are not so many outlets maybe to positively express
ourselves that are readily available and that are you know,
not expensive, some people are unfortunately acting out. And as
we see the rise in crime and the rise and aggression.
Here is the cool thing about poetry. Poetry is actually
(01:10):
a very positive way that we can connect with our
own emotions, and it actually can be used to help
us to just self reflect, you know, analyze where we
are emotionally mentally, and then to kind of even set
steps and goals for our future and our future selves.
So if you haven't yet tried poetry as a positive
form of expression, I definitely would encourage you to explore
(01:31):
it and jump into it. It's super easy. Just grab
a piece of paper, grab a pen or a pencil,
and just write down your thoughts. Poetry doesn't always have
to be structured in the form of rhyme. Poetry can
just be structured in the form of this is where
I am right now. This is what I want to say,
is this is how I feel. That's poetry. That's poetic expression.
(01:51):
So I definitely want to encourage all of you out
there to explore it. It's definitely a benefit in a
positive way in order for us to really connect with ourselves.
I'm gonna give you another one before I jump off here.
It actually also encourages creativity and imagination. Now, a lot
of us for our imagination and creativity. We'd like to
go to Netflix, or we like to go to our
(02:12):
our favorite movie app and we say let them. You know,
wonders our imagination. But you know, one of the cool
things about the imagination is that it's endless. And haven't
you ever read a book before? And you when you
read the book, you kind of see the scene in
your mind, and then when you watch the movie, you
weren't impressed because you're like, it wasn't how you imagined
(02:32):
it to be in your imagination. You had it worked
out so much better. Well, that's the power of imagination.
You can actually develop and home that skill through creative
writing and through poetry. Typically, our imaginations are so much
more fascinating and amazing than what you can even see
pictured on a movie screen. So tap into that and
explore that in a positive way, and allow that to
(02:54):
be a nice form of release for you as you are,
you know, looking for ways to positively distress from your work,
or from life, or from kids, or from whatever you
got going on in your life. All right, you guys, well,
I definitely want to encourge you to take a look
at the few other ones that are left. I did
drop a lot on you guys here, but to check
out the full list of five benefits of writing poetry,
you guys can check out the Latest magazine and Founder Magazine,
(03:17):
and you guys, just a link to that in the
description of this show, so just go and click the link,
check it out, save it. You know. There are also
some other poets and some other poet experts who I
would term them, who can be also used as a
resource for you. So one of those is Universe Poems
Carol Natasha Devini. She actually is the founder of Universe
Poems in the UK. She has a really great platform
(03:37):
and a way to help, you know, writers learn how
to express themselves positively. Another great resource is the Poetry Foundation,
founded in Chicago by Harriet Monroe in nineteen twelve. The
foundation is actually still around, still kicking it so you
might be inspired by taking a look at some of
their poetry, and you know, check it out as well.
All right, you guys, at until next time, I'm Joseph Bonner,
(03:58):
and take care of each other.
