the Off the Ball podcast with Me your hopes, Chris
Lebron and guess what ladies and gentlemen New York Knicks
have themselves that had to coach. Finally, it's been a while,
think over a month since Tips was let go after
leading our Knickerbockers to the Eastern Conference finals. Wasn't good enough.

They wanted to pivot. And we heard an abundance of
names throughout this whole process, from everyone who had any
coaching job for getting turned down, to Jason Kidd to
email Ya Dooka, to Billy Donovan getting shut down. Then
it looked like, you know, maybe Johnny Briant, who didn't

get the Son's job, maybe he's in line because he's
been here before. Then it looked like, all right, they
want Jay Kidd and they try to work to make
that happen. Didn't work, They did not happen, and they
pivoted and did a few interviews with some guys, Mike Jink,

Taylor Jenkins, Mike Brown notably, two guys who were let
go this past season by their teams, and the Knicks
finally decided on who would be their guy, and they
decided on Mike Brown being the new head coach of

the New York Knicks. So they hired Mike Brown, who
was previously the head coach of the Sacramento Kings and
was Coach of the Year. He's been a two time
coach of the Year, coach of the Year in Cleveland
and just as recent as the Sacramento Kings. What just

two years ago, you know, he was the coach of
the year. You know, so right, yeah, just twenty two
to twenty three season led them to forty eight wins
and one Coach of the year. Followed with a forty
six win season. They didn't make the play. I think

they lost in a play in, right, I think they will.
They lost in a play in, But you know, the
West is a monster. And then this year thirteen and
an eighteen start and was let go in a surprising way,
which was kind of a theme for a lot of
coaches this year shot and some shocking head coaching fires.
But you know, obviously he was the head coach for

the you know lebron Haves and had success. You know,
I think they won. They were in the playoffs here
every single year he was there. I mean he was
let go off the winning sixty games, you know. So
then coach the Lakers for a couple of years for
I don't even think a year and change. Gotta let go. Uh,

then went back to Cleveland, didn't have success, Gotta let
go after year. Then I was an assistant, then went
the assistant Rouph for damn near six years. You know,
tuned his craft with coach Kerr. Was a big, big
part of what the Warriors did defensively and developing those

guys and won some championships over there, and then wound
up getting the Sacramento gig a few years ago. Like
I said, Coach of the Year. And now he is
the newest coach. So this is his I believe his
one too. This is his fourth stint as a coach.

And I know this is not a sexy higher. I
know Mike Brown's not a sexy higher. He's been around
the block, and I know that's the thing. You know,
everybody wanted a shiny new toy, and it just didn't
seem like that was gonna happen. It seemed like they
were I think they were all in on getting Jason Kidd.
I think Jason kidda one of the knicks. It just
was gonna be essentially probably too costly, and it was

just gonna be too much to do. So let's pivot
to one of these other coaches that we can get
that are just as just as good. And Mike Brown
and Taylor Jenkins has had success with the Memphis Grizzlies.
But Mike Brown, like I said, not sexy. But what
I like about Mike Brown is a he's fiery. He's

gonna get into his players, he's gonna practice, he's gonna
do a lot of things good. He's gonna run offensive
set something we don't We didn't really see a lot.
You know, he runs a lot of mesh routes I'm
taking on in his football, but he does a lot
of it. What you see. It runs a lot of meshutes,
a lot of two man actions on his offense, a
lot of motion, you know, to get guys open, get

guys open looks. You saw that a lot in you know,
the first few years with Sacramento and why their offense
is so good, you know, especially the two man game
with with Fox and Si Bonus and except be able
to utilize those our wings. You know, so there's things
offensively he does. And then obviously he still has a
defensive mindset as a coach, you know, going back to

his days you know, early on in Indiana's assistant and you know,
obviously going to the Cleveland they were a great defensive team.
And you know, except what he did in Golden State
as as an assistant with Steve Kerr doing good stuff there.
So I said, it's not sexy, but you know, who

cares If if if they felt like he was the
best option and they felt like he's going to give
them the best chance to get to the finals, then
you know, I'm all for it. You know, he is
a good coach. You know, I know there's a lot
of people he's not a championship caliber coach. That's to

be seen, but we know what he is. He is
a good He is a damn good coach, that's for sure.
And you know, I don't think they were essentially trying
to go the young coach route, you know, maybe with
a Johnny Bryant or you know, a coach who hasn't
been there before. I don't even think Johnny Bryan.

because I kind of felt like once he didn't get
the job at Phoenix, because that was what around the
time that Tims was let go and they gave the
job to Jordan On and I was like, Okay.

It feels like it's Johnny Bryant's job. I think Johnny
Bryant probably got told and it was like all right,
I'm gonna take the next job. But that never came
into fruition. So and then the enough say they pivoted.
But Mike Brown brings stability, He's a good coach, brings
great of a great offensive mindset, like a great you know,

play developer. One thing I will say is he does
that seemed like it was an issue especially and probably
why he was ousted in uh Sacramento was kind of
the rotation stuff. Now, I that because a lot of
I heard from a lot of Sacramento fans about that
and just read up on and try to get as
much information as possible what Mike Brown can break to

the table since he was looking like he was going
to be the guy, and shout out to our uh
guy CP for kind of being on the on top
of that kind of telling us Mike Brown was going
to be the guy essentially, But uh, the rotation stuff
that that was kind of a thing. And you know,

obviously we've had our things with rotations and stuff, and
but I I don't I don't think that'll be as
big as an issue. I mean, that's that's probably the
one con of what he had in problex of why
he was probably let go, and maybe some handling of personnel,
how he handle the players and stuff. You know, there
was some weird stuff with him and deeron Fox, but

maybe that I don't know if that was more of
Deer and Fox wanting to just get out of Sacramento.
And you know, eventually he was gone from Sacramento. You know,
is now at San Antonio spur So, and uh, it's
crazy because he might get flipped again because you know,
they got Harper and Castle there. So but you know,
maybe that's thing and and you know just some of

the you know, decision making at times. But you know,
I I automatically just with that. You know, Yes, there's
the cons with the depositives. And we're gonna see offense. Man,
We're gonna see offensive sets. We're gonna see him get
into people. I heard he's a big he's big on practice.
He's gonna practice so and to that's that bodes well,

not just for the Vets, but for the young guys
that we need desperately to you know, to develop. And
we'll talk about a little bit shortly about a couple
of the free agent signs they had. They they they
they had in the last few days. But I'm I'm
cool with it. I'm cool with that. I said, it's
not sexy, it's not gonna knock the socks off, you know,

But there wasn't really a higher potentially that was gonna
be that that Oh my god, we got this guy. Like,
it wasn't gonna be an email Udoka. It wasn't gonna
be you know, it wasn't gonna be anything like that.
You know, a Spolstra it wasn't be anything like that.
So you know, a solid higher, a good coach is

going to come in bring stability. He's very volatile. Well
you know, he's gonna let you know, indush you in
the media. That's the one thing I wanted. I'm very
interested too in how he handles the New York Meada,
because he hasn't he hasn't dealt with big media. You know,

he was only there for a year and change, you know,

a good feel off that, you know, the back end
of Kobe years. But how does he handle the New
York media. I'm very interested. And we got Steve Fox

a year's he's a really good coach. I think a
lot of people, well a lot of people are afraid
of is that he has that tids ceiling like, yeah,

we know he's a good we know he brought back Sackerman.
We know we did did with Cleveland, but is it
going to have that same ceiling where we're you know,
we're just going to be stuck as being easts then
conference finals type of team, like we're trying to win
the championship, you know. So, and just how he handles
the New York media that that's what's big. How does

he handle that? You know, he's dealt with you know,
smaller media markets and Sacramento, you know where it's too
long extants, you know. And then obviously he was assistant,
so it didn't really deal with the media much in
Golden State, you know, it was more kur So how

does he handle that when when things get a little
bumpy when you're going to when you lose four out
of five, which is gonna happen, You're gonna have these
bumps in the road on you, on your during the season,
during the eighty two game season, So how does he
how does the emotions hand How did he handle the
emotions when Cats not playing defense? You know, you know so,
but I'm interested to see how he worked he he

uh he uh works with Cat. I think Cat's gonna
thrive in this because he does a lot of good
there's a lot of good actions he does at the
pinch elbow, you know, on the pinch post that he
that he that that's very intriguing that I think. I
think we're gonna see a lot more playmaking cat, you know,

Cat working out of that post pinch post, which should
I'm looking forward to see because I think he can
have that in his game, be a little bit more facilitator,
you know, get guys open. I said, there's gonna be
a lot more guys cutting and stuff. There. There's a
lot of good things saying. He runs a lot of
motion offense, a lot of just constant moving and constant
screen setting. So I'm i'm I'm I'm cool with it.

I'm cool with it. I may have not been cooled initially,
but you know I did, like I said, that's why
you gotta do your homework. If you're going to criticize
these Hirings or you know, whoever you gotta, you gotta
do your homework. And I did dig more digan. I
was like, Okay, I'm all for it. I'm all for it.
And obviously the Nicks felt this way. That's what did
the due diligence, and they just took a little bit

longer than we probably anticipated. But you know, hey, I'm all,
I'm I'm mixed. I'm looking forward to this man, I'm

these free agents. But Mike Brown's a new head coach
of the New York Next Man, so I'm excited to
see what he does with this ball club, see how

So but in other news, we had a couple well
free agents. Listen, the Knicks couldn't do much. Knicks couldn't
do much in free agency. They weren't gonna get out
of these names that people were thrown out. I was like,

So but I think they got good value for their buck.
And I will start with first with the first guy
they signed, and that is mister Jordan Clarkson, so they
picked him up after he was waived by the Utah Jazz.
Utah Jazz obviously going in the youth youth mode and

decided to part ways with Jordan Clarkson. He's a he's
a bucket he's a bucket geter. And he listened. And
I try to tell people, it's it's where it's gonna
be a lot of times we're watching and we're gonna
be throwing stuff at the TV because he's gonna have
nights where he's just gonna be chucking and it's gonna

be there's gonna be a lot, there's gonna be a
couple three of eleven nights, you know that. But we
needed scoring and for the value we got and that's
what I'm big on. Value to me, Like, it's not
an ideal, is not the type of player I would want,
But to get him out of I think it's going
to be a veteran minimum. It's it's it's and it's

a it's a it's an upgrade over campaign and Landrew Shammitt.
He provides you another ball handler. Like I said, he's
not he hasn't been efficient, you know, probably ever, definitely
wasn't that efficient last season? Uh for the Utah Jazz.
Now you I can also you can also tell me that, yeah,

but he was on Utah there hang, Okay, that's very true.
But his numbers overall, you know, for his whole career,
even when Utah maybe was you know, decent. Still tell
me that even the sixth man the year, like he
was good but you know, not crazy efficient. But for

what you're getting him for for a veteran minimum, you know,
a guy that can get you sixteen a game, which
he did last year. You know, even there was a
limited time he was banged up, and that's another thing.
He's been banged up the last few years. And you
know he had declining defensively not good, you know. So
you're getting a player that's you know, you think he's

thirty two, thirty three years old, you know, so he's
on the decline. But like I said, for the full year,
and it's an upgrade of what we had last year
with Campaign and Nida Shaman. So I'll take that. So
nice solid addition to this ball club that we get
a ball handler can score something we needed off the bench.

You know, when when Brunson is Ah is that so
get gets get some get some score on punch, get
some score on punch. The Knicks haven't had a true
six man since Iq. Very true the next season, Clark's
gonna make three plus. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The value,

like even if I want to be picky with the player,
to get to get to get Clarkson for the veteran
minimum over like like you're just saying like IQ is
making thirty two, and it's like, and I loved I
love manual quickly. I'm a big IQ guy. But it's like,

what I'm saying, good value. And yeah, and to get
some a player who essentially get the same similar stats.
You know, I Q was very a little bit more
efficient down in his career, but the number is insanely high.

changes once that once that the number on the payroll changes. People.
You know, IQ was was terribly uh underrated, and then
once he got paid, it was like I don't know,
you know, anybody said Jordan clark works and if he's

but Jordan Clarkson at a vet minimum, You're like, oh, okay,
that's not bad. I'll take it. I'll absolutely take it.
You know. It's that's tremendous good. That's really good value,
especially when you're very limited on what you can get.
So Jordan Clarkson will be the newest member. So the

adds to the depth with him. You have him, you
have Douche McBride, Minchell Robertson. You know, I Q and
r J got uh yes, yeah, your Jerry. Yeah, he
made some questionable moves he made. He made some cushion

go back to that trade with the not to get
on a little topic, but you go back to that
trade with OG getting traded to New York for RJ
and IQ, and there were people that were up in
arms about it, and man, I think we really did
we really did well. I was fine with that trade.

I like about getting Mike Brown. I think we're gonna
see another level of offense, uh with with O G.
I think there's more offense the upside, and we saw
some of that offensive upside last year, and I think
