(00:00):
Welcome to the OMG Julia Podcast, where we discuss creative lives and processes.
I'm your host, Julia Rios, and today May twenty fourth, twenty twenty
twenty three, the World's of Possibilityanthology Kickstarter is officially down to the hour's
mark. Kickstarter officially switched its counterfrom days to hours this morning, and
(00:24):
we are definitely pushing in for thathome stretch. We did officially fund the
other day, and we're close togetting a stretch goal where one hundred and
thirty three dollars away from that SweetBeauty Bakery sticker for all the people who
backed at a sticker design level. We're also six hundred and thirty three dollars
(00:45):
away from the poetry level, wherewe will get two brand new poems that
I will open a submissions called justfor those I'm hoping we get there.
And in order to wet your appetitefor poetry today, I wanted to share
an earlier poem with you. Currently, there are thirteen original poems in the
(01:06):
book. If we hit the stretchgoal, we'll bring that up to fifteen.
So let's take a look at oneof those thirteen. This poem is
from the February twenty twenty three issueof Worlds of Possibility. I love its
sense of mischief, and if youwould like to listen to it, you
can listen here. If you'd liketo read it along or separately, you
(01:27):
can hop on over to Julia Riosdot com. Let's get into it,
shall we? Purple Magenta by TiaraMicah. The thickness absorbed the room a
tunnel of stars. That moment, just after the evening shades into nighttime.
(01:52):
Just below the skyline, the abundantblooming rose to the center of the field,
taking over the patch of grass, likely fighting for its camera time.
Though innocently placed around the blanket ofpaeonies melted against the tongue, the flavored
ice did such a great job stainingit. Of course, we made fun
(02:15):
of ourselves, drawing out the sweetfruitiness in an attempt to avoid our parents
knowing we had eaten something so sweetright before dinner. But it was inevitable.
Your lips looked bruised, and mineequally as washing it off was out
(02:36):
of the question, and so wasdamn near everything else. If punishment meant
we could do this all over againin a couple of weeks, that would
be fine by me. That waspurple Magenta by Tiara Mica. Tiara Mica
(02:59):
is a fiction writer and poet whorecently completed her bachelor's in English and Creative
Writing in twenty twenty one. Shehas studied creative writing for eight years,
starting with her high school experience asa creative writing major at Kappa in Philadelphia.
As a woman of color in thewriting industry, she always expresses her
(03:23):
art through many mediums to break throughas a refreshing voice. And I'll tell
you what in this poem, Ifeel like it's refreshing and sweet and ice
cold, and it makes me wanta popsicle, so very refreshing. Indeed,
I loved this poem instantly when Iread it, and I believe it
(03:43):
was one of the first ones Iaccepted from my February open submissions call earlier
this year, and it went immediatelyinto that issue. If you hop on
over to Julia Rios dot com,you can read the text in its entirety
and see the little title card Imade for it with some stock photos of
brown skin hand with purple nails holdinga magenta popsicle on a white plate.
(04:08):
That is kind of melting all overand it's against a purple and magenta background.
The title of this poem has aslash in it, and I didn't
read that out, but you cansee it when you are on the website,
so it's sort of styled as purpleslash magenta. But I didn't think
that translated well to the spoken wordaspect of it. So Tiara, hopefully
(04:32):
you don't mind that I didn't callit purple slash magenta. It seemed more
like it was purple magenta. Okay, So thank you for listening. If
you've supported the kickstarter, thank youso much. If you haven't, this
is your chance go get it.It's awesome. I'm also putting in a
(04:54):
very special flash reward slash add onthat is going to be live from now
until the end of the campaign, just for the last couple of days here.
It is a mystery grab bag,and you can get this as a
digital add on or as a physicaladd on. If you choose either one
(05:15):
of those, you can pay forthem separately, or you can get them
together for a slight sort of discount. So basically what you'll see is there's
a digital add on for three dollarsthere's a physical add on for five dollars.
If you choose to get them bothtogether, you can get them for
only seven dollars. So I'm nottelling you what they are, and not
(05:42):
everyone will get the same thing, but if you choose this, you'll get
a little goodie. It could bein the digital section, a short story,
a poem, a little piece ofart, something where there's a combination
of those things, or something else, who knows. In the physical version,
(06:10):
you will receive a physical item.It will fit into a regular envelope.
It may be a postcard, itmay be a sticker, it may
be a poem. You won't knowuntil you receive it. But you will
receive something exciting, and this willbe something that is different from what you
(06:34):
previously ordered. So if you orderedthe postcard level and you're getting all the
postcards, you will not receive aduplicate. If you receive a postcard,
it will be a different postcard thatyou did not order from here, because
it will be a postcard that Idid not tell you I was designing for
(06:55):
this. If you ordered a stickerlevel, you will possibly get a sticker,
but it won't be a sticker thatI told you I was designing for
this, and you may get apostcard instead, or you may get a
poem. Whatever you get, itwill be something new and different and not
what you're expecting. Now, ifyou didn't order any of the art levels
(07:17):
and you add this on, it'sa chance that it could be something that's
in the art levels. So whenyou receive this item in the mail,
you will have something that you wouldn'thave had before. But you may have
something that people ordered from the campaign. And that's the best I can say
(07:41):
about this. This is a greatfor anyone who wants a little surprise.
I am not limiting the quantity ofthese, So if you want to get
them as gifts for friends, that'sfine. You can add multiples onto your
existing pledge. And the way toadd something onto your pledges go in click
manage your pledge, click change yourpledge, choose the same pledge level,
and then the add ons will comeup and you can add on whatever you
(08:05):
feel like adding on. So inthis case, you would choose digital mystery
item or physical mystery item, ora digital and physical mystery item, and
then enter your quantity. When wego for the fulfillment stage, we will
ask you where you want them sent. If there is more than one,
we will allow you to send itto separate addresses, and we will also
(08:28):
allow you to put a little giftmessage in there if you're doing it as
a gift. So you can totallydo this as little fun surprises for a
friend or a loved one. Ifyou do order multiples, there is a
chance that you may get too ofthe same thing. If you're getting multiples
sent to either the same address ordifferent addresses, they may or may not
(08:54):
be different items. So you will, at least for the first one that
you order, get something thing thatyou didn't already order. But if,
for instance, you've ordered all theart rewards and the digital and physical mysteries,
and you've ordered more than one ofthose, there's a chance that the
second or third, or fourth oneof those might be something you already have.
(09:16):
So just FYI, that's how that'sgoing to work. Okay. So
I'm really excited to do little surprisebags because when I was a kid,
I remember that the place to gowas Ponytails, which was a Sanrio store
that sold Hello Kitty and My Melodyand Little Twin Stars and all the other
(09:37):
Sanrio friends and The best thing todo at this store, which I loved
to do with all of my youngfriends at the time, was save up
all of your allowance. You goto the Sanrio store and you would get
a mystery bag from there. Itwould just be a brown paper bag on
the outside, but on the insidethere'd be some kind of adorable Sanrio surprise.
(10:00):
And if it wasn't something you wanted, you would trade with your friends.
But like a lot of times,it was something you did want,
so sometimes you would get a littlelike Hello Kitty, a racer or a
pencil or stickers or what have you. And this is kind of in that
spirit, the sort of like I'mat the store and I know I want
something, but I don't know whatit is. I'm just going to take
(10:22):
my chances on this mystery grab bag. And I guarantee you I'm not sending
you anything I wouldn't personally be delightedto receive myself. So hopefully you will
be as excited for this little mysterybit as I am. And yeah,
get your pledges in because this campaignends bright and early Saturday morning on Eastern
(10:45):
US time zone, so you havethrough the end of the day Friday,
Eastern US. Time to get thosepledges in and sign up for your copy
of the anthology, your copy ofA New Day by Gene Goulborn, your
Mystery Surprise is your art rewards, all of those things, those are just
available for a couple more days.So thank you again so much if you've
(11:09):
already supported, and thank you ifyou've boosted. Definitely boost in this last
few days because as we get closerand closer to more stretch goals, we
will have more exciting things in theanthology. Okay, I'll catch you next time.
