(00:00):
Because literally, like my brain isno, I know where we're going,
we're moving. No, no,not about that. I just feel like
I have so much music on totalk about it. I don't want to
know. That's why I'm overwhelmed, right, jamble like does jamble the would
you accept my air drop? What'sup? I'm John, I'm Marley,
and I'm Mikayla and you're listening toon the playlist and I heard Radio New
Music podcast. I feel like we'veneeded a new Music Friday like this.

(00:22):
It's been it's kind of, dareI say, lackluster the past weeks.
There's there's been a few, likeyou know, little bangers here and there,
but nothing crazy. So we'll getto new Music Friday in just a
second. Here, Well, welcomeback on the playlist. My name is
John Comunci. This is Marley,Hi, Mikayla Hi, checking in for
a new Music Friday here. Butguys, I have a conspiracy theory I

(00:45):
need to share with you. I'vebeen sitting on this all week. I
know I've been waiting for him toshare it with us. John, I
sent you a text wenesday, Ithink ye, and I said, guys,
conspiracy theory on the pod. Areyou ready for this? I'm ready
every single video on my TikTok feedas I'm sure yours is. No.

(01:11):
We never heard this song ever untilMarley brought it up the other day.
When are you messing with me rightnow? No, I swear I have
not heard this song he had.I swear he had another song go like
somewhat viral a few months ago, which is how I knew that Joe Carey
was DJ oh Yeah, And sowhen this song went viral, I already
knew it was Joe Kerey, butI feel like people like you know.

(01:32):
I was talking to mckaylan. Sheand Jessica had no idea. So is
it pronounced Joe? I think it'sDJ O Like I think it's literally just
all of these I saw that itwas pronounced Joe, but now none of
us know. I think it's DJoh. I'm gonna I'm gonna double down.
Before he came into the studio thatnight, I had learned that he
was a singer, and I heardthat song for the first this last week.

(01:52):
This last week. Yeah, butI had no idea who he was,
like that it was the guy fromStranger Things. So yeah, in
case you're listening like mckaylen, youdon't really know the background of the song
that's just gone insanely viral on TikTok. He is that guy dj O,
which is debatably Joe or dj OH. We're still unclear about that. It's
Joe Kurriy. And if you don'tknow that, he's Steve Harrington from Stranger
Things. He's the guy in seasonthree that was wearing that Scoops of Hoy

(02:14):
costume. Most of the show makesmusic, and all of a sudden,
this thing blew up. And it'sso crazy to me, Mikayla that you
haven't seen this on your feed becauseI couldn't scroll maybe five videos. That's
wild. But I'm also not onTikTok as much as like you guys.
I feel like maybe life. Idon't have a life. That's the problem.

(02:34):
I'm gonna have to find another.No. But the thing is no,
this is my problem, no worklife balance, So I don't have
time to grow on TikTok. LikeMikayla's got her own issue. This is
so bad. When I'm sitting intraffic, I will pull TikTok out and
just listen to TikTok's while I'm drivinglike Instagram. I know it's lame,
but I do like is very boomerof you. Yikes. Anyways, the

(03:00):
conspiracy theory has now arrived. Areyou ready for this? Yeah, tin
hats, pull them out, we'reputting them on. Oh you did mention
this? And what does that mean? Like conspiracy theories like all the conspiracy
theorist where they're tin hats aliens,Yeah, which is not a conspiracy.
No, they're real. Yeah, that's say no, truly, I want
to meet that all right, hatson, tin hat Okay, because here

(03:24):
we go on. So recently TikTokand UMG have had this battle. We
know about that, right, Allthe music got pulled off of TikTok.
A few weeks later, all themusic that even songwriters that were signed with
UMG got pulled off TikTok. Thenit got worse that, like we're starting
to see artists have their music pulledoff TikTok who aren't associated with UMG whatsoever.

(03:45):
And it seems to be somewhat bymistake and that it just so,
I feel like this war is gettingdeeper and deeper. I feel I think
I agree with that. I'm noticingthat as well when I'm scrolling that there's
a lot less sound happening. Whatif you're ready for this? What if
TikTok is trying to prove a point. I think this song is a plant,

(04:13):
a TikTok plant. So hear meout. Okay, let me break
this down. There are essentially threebig record labels that most artists are assigned
to. All the record companies areessentially owned by one of three parent companies,
Universal, Warner Music Group, andSony Entertainment. Okay, let's look
at the Billboard Hot one hundred rightnow. Okay, on there, Teddy
Swims, Lose Control, Warner Music, Loving on Me, Jack Carlow,

(04:35):
Warner Music, Beautiful Things, BensonBoone, Warner Music, Texas, Hold
Them Beyonce, Sony Music, GreedyTate McCrae, Sony Music, Snooze Scizza,
Sony Music. What do these havein common? They're all on TikTok,
all of them in the Billboard Hotone in the top ten. All

(04:56):
of those songs are on TikTok.So this is what I'm thinking. I'm
thinking TikTok is trying to get backat UMG and they're like, all right,
yeah, those songs are on thetop, but let's play this even
further. Let's take a song thatjust has a little bit of the name
recognition enough to become a viral hit, and then they're shooting that up.
Now, this song from Joe isone of the top songs. It's like
trending globally in the nation obviously, but it's because of TikTok. Trending strictly

(05:20):
because of TikTok. Yeah, itwouldn't have done this well without TikTok.
So I think TikTok is starting toboost some songs just to prove a point.
And hey, look at us onTikTok. It can't go away like,
and labels need to get on withit because they are making art TikTok
is making artists. Dude, I'mstarting to think UMG is really losing this
battle. I think they're starting too. Like, imagine if Knox, for

(05:44):
example, didn't post this song onTikTok, would he be on American Top
forty right now? Noacause Sneakers wasthe first hit that got him on stage
with the band Camino, and thatsong is because of TikTok. Yeah,
that is what I mean, liketotally, it has such I mean,
anyone can be an artist these days, and it's definitely more competitive because of
it. But it's a business people, we we need TikTok. People make

(06:09):
so much money, they have somany jobs because of TikTok. It's an
artists that have come in the studiothis week, Benson Boone, Meghan Trainer,
like, we're able to repost stuffto their song because those songs are
out and now that's just most peopleseeing them. And I can't imagine a
world where and again what do weknow, But I just I can't imagine
stakes being in favor of not havingyour song on TikTok, like whatever that

(06:30):
cost is, Like if they're notgiving you enough, I feel like it
has to outwig at this point.Yeah, I agree. Yeah, crazy,
so suspicious, dude. I don'tknow that's a conspiracy. I think
that's just fact. I think isthe fact that TikTok intentionally boosted this song
and of the beginning, I thinkthat's my conspiracy. Real conspiracy is the

(06:50):
Cap Middleton situation that I'm like roughlyfollowing that. I'm roughly following it too,
but it is so sus and withoutgetting I guess too deep into it.
But like, what is if youhad to pick one of the conspiracy
theorists about what's really going on withher and where she is at this moment,
what do you think it is?I couldn't even tell you, really,
no, I couldn't tell you.I'm so like roughly paying attention to

(07:13):
it. I definitely think they're likelike hiding out somewhere. I don't know
why or for what, very rough, but Jill from our morning show went
on the air today with a theorythat she is the next mass singer.
I saw that too, and honestly, that wouldn't surprise me either. It's
so good, she's good. Anyway, let's get into this week's music,

(07:36):
because there's there's so much. I'mstressed. I'm like stressed just thinking about
it, but I do want toget into it. I guess we should
start with the biggest release, whichis going to be just In Timberlake and
his brand new album Everything. Ithought it was obviously we know selfish,
Oh fuggoous I can help it.So now the album's out today, and

(08:01):
I guess, like for me personallygoing into this, like I think him
and his boy band in Sync days. It's a little bit too old for
me. Like I wasn't really oldenough to be a fan. I don't
know where you guys were you guysaround during the en Sync days like a
super big fans. I mean Iwas, like, I was never an
en Sync fan. BSB all theway, baby, forget, it's going
to be both your back Backstreet allthe way? And then guess what still

(08:26):
going They still got it. KaylaMi Kayla was on this ranch. She
got in a fight with someone inthe sales department. It was loud,
like I was walking by and Iheard it because they were so excited about
justin timerly getting sync and MICHAELA said, it's not even comparison, like back
three boys are better in every way. Oh my gosh, Like no,
I don't even get me was afan of both. I was. It

(08:46):
was never team in Sync or teamBackstreet Boys to me. We had like
a back the Backstreet Boys CD whenI was a kid, but like I
never saw them in concert, LikeI just liked their stuff. I was
never like a die hard first crush. Who was Nick Carter really first crash
five years old? Had the backpackand kindergarten first grade. YEP was with

(09:07):
Nick Carter one of the best daysof my life. Well, he didn't
come out with new music this week, so we're just gonna put a little
pause. Solo tours come back tohim in a little bit. So for
Justin Timer, like, I thinklike his older songs obviously are bangers like
once he kind of grew up on. But the twenty twenty experience was like
my album, Like, I lovedthat sound of him. I thought it

(09:28):
was so unique, it was sodifferent. It just sounded like such a
masterpiece to me. Then I felloff a little bit since you know,
Man of the Woods. It wascool, it was right, like not
a big fan. And then thisalbum came out, and I feel like,
if you like pop JT, that'swhat this album is. This album
reminds me of old day Jay.It reminds me of like a discoified JT.

(09:50):
I enjoy that work, thank you, but it reminds me of his
old stuff, Like, Yeah,I truly had one of his old stuff
on my MySpace, like, andthat's what it reminds me of. It
sounds like everything you know him forYeah, and his why people like totally
yeah, yeah, and it's Ithink fans like it so far. Yeah,
and I feel like no one elsehas his sound? Yeah? Is
it just me? Like I feellike no one like his sound is so

(10:11):
unique, like this specific sound thathe's had, Like yeah, from that,
how to describe? Yeah, that'sthe same. I don't know.
I feel like this does feel likea little bit of a tamed version of
his old pop sound, though definitely, like obviously none of this, in
my mind compares to Sexy Back OurFuture Sex Love Sounds, you know,
like that album is iconic. It'siconic, but at the same time,

(10:33):
dudes older now, you know, dudes I think in his forties, and
so are most of his fans whoare in that era. So yeah,
you're not going to make an albumthat can compare to those same pop sounds
of when he was in his twenties. So it feels like a more mellow
pop album, and I feel likethat's what his fans are kind of looking
for, Like a lot of thosediehard fans are older, you know what
I mean. So that was reallyit for me. I was reading into

(10:56):
the first song a little bit,and I feel like that kind of set
the tone to the album, Yeah, Memphis, but then like the rest
of the album, I don't knowif any song off my first listen was
like this is dope. I Iagree with that. Like honestly, when
I heard Memphis at first, Ithought it was setting up for a completely
different sound throughout the entire thing, because Memphis was so like such an ode

(11:18):
to like where he grew up hisroots, you know, how his career
started, the whole nine yards. And then you get into like, what's
what is the second one? I'mlike, this is so different than Memphis,
but that one was my I thinkthat was my favorite one off the
first listen. It's just so fun, come on, you know, like

(11:58):
didn't didn't dn't didn't in the backlike, yeah, that's what I thought
too, But after listening to theother ones, I have a different favorite.
Listening to that one now, forI think that's probably the third time
I've listened to it ever, Ikind of like it more now. It's
fun. That's why I'm scared tojudge this album, because I feel like
it's gonna grow on me, right, you know, which a lot of
pop music does. I think allof the songs were also six minutes long.

(12:18):
I feel like, so it wasreally hard to sit when we're long
at all. Yeah, dude, this album is like an hour and twenty
something minutes in total feature film.Dude. I saw it last night.
I was like, oh my god, us pictures from the car listening to
it. I was like, whydidn't you ask me to join you just
live in the same She was justdown in the parkat I was sitting in

(12:39):
my car for an hour. No, I completely agree. The only one
I really wanted to bring up wasParadise because I feel like a lot of
INSIG fans were looking forward to thereturn of how they would all sound together.

(13:05):
It feels like the closing track toa movie, like there's something about
it that's just like this is likean early two thousands movies or something a
little so much that's so good, but you want to know. I was
a little disappointed as this means there. I guess technically it's their second comeback
song cause I don't count better place, I don't count better better. I

(13:28):
thought it was gonna be more upbeatand slow, but also, doesn't this
song remind you of mirrors By doesn'tlike he's wanting to sing it. Yeah,
I feel that a little bit withthe layered vocals and stuff. Totally.
Yeah, Yeah, I just lovedit. It sounded like the soundtrack
to like a Free Willy movie.I don't know, I feel like I
can see this creer. I thinkI can see Free Willy jumping over the

(13:50):
rocks waiting you see it. God, that's funny. I have tears in
my eyes. Oh my gosh, right now, that that I wanted to

(14:11):
bring up. To be honest, were there others that you liked? I
think those were the two that stoodout to me the most personally, just
through first listen. Yeah, throughfirst listen. We'll have to come back
and check back in with it.Mine's flame Oh okay, idiot, why

(14:35):
flame? It's a vibe like Ijust this song specifically reminded me of older
justin Timberlake. Okay, okay, like growing up like old, like pop
R and B like that sound likethe vibe. I don't know, like
I just I kept playing. Iplayed like three times last night before I
moved on to the next song.I like loved it. Yeah, I
have to say. They spent twentyfour minutes listening to that song. This

(15:01):
is why I went to bed aftermidnight. Okay, any of you guys
go to that one night only showat the World, Yeah, you had
to be like vip'd again and then. But also I just feel like I
didn't deserve to be there because I'mnot a true fan. You know.
I respect that. I do onehundred percent respect that. So we'll have
to come back and see how wefeel about this in a week. But
overall, I think if you likeold justin Timberlake, it's a good album.

(15:22):
It is it is speaking of songlike albums to go back to.
Can we go back to Eternal Sunshinereally quick? Just for a hot second?
Yeah, because I can't stop listeningto it on a grande from last
week. Yeah, I'm gonna behonest. I took two soul cycle classes
in the last week that were bothAriana and so I think I think that's
really just like solidified the album inmy brain. But she came out with

(15:43):
a slightly deluxe version. Yeah, that's right. She has a feature with
Choice Avon on her song Supernatural.I didn't pull it, but looking for
it, I didn't. I didn'tpull it, but it's it's a bop,
really a good Yeah, I'll haveto go back and listen to that
one, circling back on the EternalSunshine. All right, well, I'm

(16:06):
gonna move on a little bit.I gotta mention my girl, Holly Humberstone,
one of my favorite artists right now. Like I've had a top ten,
she'd be in there top five debatably, like she's hanging in my top
five right now, and I feellike that's a that's a big that's a
big number. There's a few songsthat she came out with. It's an
EP called work in Progress, andthe title track of it was one that
I really enjoyed because it's kind ofabout loving someone that is a work in

(16:30):
progress and so can pro cratch.I'm thinking that I like you and as
a sure and comes try on yourstreet a loving this can pro cratch.

(16:51):
So I kind of liked the ideaof being a work in progress and liking
someone because they're a work in progress. It was so weird right before this
came out. I recently saw thisTikTok and there was some relationship therapist.
I don't know why I'm on thatside TikTok, but I was watching it
and she was essentially saying that youshould look for someone who views all problems
as workoutable, like there are nobig red flags once you get past the

(17:11):
beginning stage. Obviously obviously, butshe was saying that you got to view
every problem with something that you canwork through together, not like, oh
they do that, you're like,oh, we can work on this instead.
So I thought that was kind ofcool that, like in a relationship,
you shouldn't, even if the relationshipis great, check out and be
like, oh, we're done, like we're coastin now, Like every relationship
is a work in progress, evenwhen you've made it. So I thought

(17:33):
that was kind of cool. Andthen she has this song it's called down
Swinging, and it kind of fitsinto this theme we were talking about lately
with this saxophone because the Bleachers albumhad some sacks in it, and she
is, to my knowledge, neverhad saxophone in a song, but then
comes out with this one and doesyou want to sing on just a fun

(18:07):
melody it's a little bit more upbeat. Yeah, I liked this one a
lot. Yeah, Downswinging was sick, but still so. It was a
four song EP. But the onethat we already had from it was Dive,
which is still absolutely my favorite.I feel like it was just better
than the rest. Yeah, Okay, moving on from her because I just
like everything she does. Yeah,we know. I just think about when

(18:30):
you know, the guys of Nightlywe're in here and you just like a
little like fell to the ground, and I think you scared all of them,
Like did he just pass out Nightlyfor an artist they were really into
right now? And they said HollyHummerson And I felt like they just like
knew my blood type. I waslike, John is literally loved his Yeah,
just like she's just like sad girlssitting in your room alone vibes and

(18:52):
like, I feel like it mycore, That's who I am. She's
also got like such a unique voice. I feel like it's very I think
I've said this before for it's verylike eerie but at the same time,
yes, like beautiful, Yes,like how to describe it, It's soft
but dark. Yeah, John, what's it going to be like when you
meet her for the first time.I've thought about it. I don't think

(19:15):
she's allowed in this building. I'vethought about this, dude, because obviously,
like she's not the A list artistyet and so like a lot of
these artists will come in for interviews, and I've thought about, like the
one day if I see an emailwhere it's like Holly Humberstone's coming in,
you have to her. I don'tknow, I don't know. I like,
I'm just gonna sit there and Ilove your stuff, Like I don't
know. I don't know what elseto say. But while we're on the

(19:37):
topic of sad boys and sadgirls, buckle up, dude, I'm ready buckle
buckle, I'm ready up. Newrelease from Lindy McAlpine. Yes, I
love her. Lindy McAlpine is amember of the Dead Dad's Club. We
have jackets. She was at thelast meeting, like all our check engine
lights are on, like it's agood time, and today is the four

(19:59):
year anniversary of the day her dadpassed. Dark. Yeah, I know
we're okay though it's can be fine. But she posted on her TikTok and
she said, like, I don'twant to lip sync this song and promo
it the normal way, but inhonor of like my dad passing, I
wanted to post this next song offmy next album. And it got me
thinking about anniversaries of like sad anniversaries. M and I was like, it's

(20:19):
so crazy that thought to me thatlike you celebrate the anniversary and not celebrate.
Maybe that's the wrong word, butyou kind of celebrate the anniversary of
something bad and then you think backto that day. So I'm trying to
think back of something terrible that happened. You're like, a year ago,
this terrible thing happened to me.But I guess just a day, you
know, Like it's such a weirdthought to like know that a year ago

(20:41):
you were maybe going through one ofthe worst things in your life. But
at the same time, like it'sjust the day that we have assigned I
don't know, meaning we've assigned tothat day, you know, like it's
January thirty first, is only aJanuary thirty first because we made this stupid
calendar, and like, well,I think it also is it's only a
specific day to you, Yeah, you know what I mean. It's so
weird, Like for her, thatday was the day that her dad passed,

(21:03):
so that's why that day is likea significant event that she remembers,
whereas to everyone else it was,you know, March twelfth. It's just
you know what I mean, Andit's like probably the best day of some
people's life. It's which is,Yeah, it's a very interesting thing to
think about. So sure, soI was thinking about that. Anyway,
that's not what the song's about. So she is essentially what I took from

(21:26):
it. She's like talking about lovinga version of someone that that doesn't really
quite love you back in the sameway she talks about how she had to
tell lie just to bring them homeand how she's sick and they're probably drunk,
but they're saying things that sound likelove. And then she kind of
says in the chorus, I guessit's all about dying to love someone.
But she has this beautiful line inthe bridge it refers to relationships here,

(21:48):
but like I just feel like itrefers to everything in life. I agree.
I literally have it written down towish it was I wish I knew
what I was doing, preach dude, go, wish you were easy.
Wish I knew what I was doing. But I never do, never do

(22:11):
Gus Does anybody? Does anybody?I wonder that all the time, even
I like look around and people whoare like older and professionals in their industry
and stuff, and I'm like,do you actually know you're doing, because
I feel like at thirty, likeI know a little bit more, but
like on the scale of knowing everything, and I feel like I'm at two
percent. Yeah, you know. It's also kind of weirdly comforting to know

(22:33):
that no one else knows what they'redoing, you know, that's so true,
like people who are, you know, almost retiring, or people who
are just graduating college or high school, or like no one knows what they're
doing or what's next. I thinkthat's what's so annoying to me, is
like you can go through life andyou're learning all these lessons and you're learning
how to deal with people and howto process emotions and all this stuff.

(22:55):
But like the older you get,you just trade those problems for new ones.
Yeah, Like you just start figuringout new shit, Like this never
ends, Like we're just trying tofigure stuff out. So I feel like
her show's just got to be soemotional. You want to see her people
standing there sad crying. I'll probablygo everyone here is he coming here?
Yeah? She's playing the Greek Yeahwow, So I'm going to change up

(23:18):
to a happy song now. Okay, it's a new single from ex ambassador.
So I want you to do thisfor this one. Close your eyes
for a second while I play thisclip. And this one's a love song,
but I want you to think aboutjust someone in your life that you
love. Doesn't have to be romantic, just someone that you love. So

(23:47):
he's essentially talking about how he hasbeen living a half life his whole life
until he found you and loved you. Right. And what I think is
cool about this song is they're doingthis, they're making this music video for
it, and they've opened it upto fans because they want fans to be
in this music video, and sothey want you to submit videos of you
with someone in your life, maybethat's a pet, a best friend,
someone you love, and submit thatto them. And in that music video,

(24:11):
it's going to be a compilation oflike everyone's different ways that they love
something or someone. Artists have beendoing that. I think that's so cool.
Yeah, I thought that was socool. Should we submit one you?
And I was thinking of this podcast, but yeah no, I brought
it up on the morning show, and of course I said that, but

(24:32):
that was like our video is justus and it like fades into this room.
And what was interesting about this onetoo, though, is there.
They're in the writing room and they'retalking about this song and one of the
writers who wrote this song was goingthrough this crazy breakup, right, and

(24:53):
and they were essentially going to writea sad song, a breakup song,
and then they thought, no,no, no, maybe when you're going
through a breakup, that's the besttime to write a song about being in
love with someone, because you youknow more than ever how much you have
to lose. And then they hadthis really interesting point he was writing about.
He was saying that, like, all love songs have a bit of
heartbreak in its DNA, because whenyou feel that strongly for someone, you

(25:17):
know the risk of how much horrorthat's going to cause if you lose them.
And yeah, yeah, so they'relike, when you're heartbroken, that's
when you need to write the lovesong, because then you know how much
it would hurt to lose them. And I was like, dang, that
was interesting. Yeah. So thisnew one Half Life from X Ambassadors,
fun little love song. Submit yourvideos, you could be in the music
video. Okay, how cool?Okay, So my last song today is

(25:38):
from Maddie Zom. Do you guysknow Maddie zomb Yes, she's had some
Yeah, she's had some success overthe last few years. She was originally
singing real songs. Yes, well. Was she also a TikToker? Yes,
artist, definitely going back to theCony. Also on American Idol.
Oh, and she normally sang songsabout her experience honestly with weight and wait,

(26:00):
coming out with a religious family,so like a lot of real,
real subjects. And she had thissong today that I was just listening to
my way in. I was like, oh, you know what, I
have to bring this one up.And it's called Little Me, and it's
about that version of you that's likelittle kid you, that lives inside you,
and how that just comes out atthe most inopportune times and it's just
always still there, sometimes makes someappearance. She's never on time, and

(26:30):
she's never convenient, and she's kindof talking about how it just always comes
out at the most inconvenient times. And then I started thinking about that little
version of me, and I waslike, dang, we all have that
version. Oh you know, yeah, And have you guys seen the movie
Oppenheimer, Yes, no, Ihave. We can probably still picture it

(26:53):
even if you haven't Mikaela. Sowhen they go to test the bomb,
they go out to this desert andthey build this bunker. And this bunker
is essentially miles away, right, and it's like concrete reinforced, and I
feel like little me is in there, right, But there's a little baby
window and you can peek your littlehead through the window and you can see
all these things happening. But you'rekind of protected far away in this bunker

(27:14):
and you're not right up in thatbusiness. And I feel like that's where
young me is. You know,it's deep inside there, but he's always
peeking out, He's always looking.Yeah. Do you guys ever think about
like me and Jess talk about thissometimes someone when I was younger, someone
being thirty or even twenty nine somuch to the so no, but like

(27:36):
it seems so old. Yeah, when you're that age, it's like you're
not. You're just the same youngkid that you were before, totally.
You know, like that age reallydoesn't matter, you know, because you're
always that young kid no matter what. Yeah, you've learned some things,
you grow a little, but likeyou're still you. Like I always felt
like that was when I was twentynine, when I'm turned twenty nine,
I'm going to be such a differentperson. Yeah, you've learned things,

(27:56):
you've grown, but you're really notknow what Like when do you think little
baby Mikayla, like little little girl, little baby, little baby Mikayla,
Like when does she come out themost? I don't know, like what
things bring out little Mikayla for me. I think it's like I think career

(28:17):
brings it out a lot because likelittle kid like wanted to be on the
radio and stuff. So I feellike that's how I find the magic in
it still, you know, likeit's still cool to me. Little baby
John's in there, like this isThat's so cool. That's the thing.
Yeah, I love music growing uplike my whole life, like Hillarina,
the Jonah's brothers, like they allmade me want to work in music.

(28:37):
Yeah, so anytime I'm working withon my favorite artists or recording or working
on the morning show, going toconcerts, that's young me is always like
whoa, Like this is where youwant it to be, this is where
you are, and it's like afull circle moment. Like even like you
know when we have like the bandsthat we meet, like there are idols
and then we work with them andit's like, whoa like young. I
always say that young, my youngself will be proud or my self wouldn't

(29:00):
believe young Kayla wouldn't believe this male? What about you? When does little
Marley come out? Oh gosh,I'm picturing little Marley. She looks exactly
the same as your saying right now. No, truly, it's my photo
of her on contact photo her. It's my baby photo. But it's her
though, like it's her today,it's startling today. No, like that's

(29:23):
her today. That's that's a littlelike what did you do? You took
that this morning? Yeah? Whendoes that girl come out? Look at
her? I see her. Iwas a cute kid. You guys know,
like if you have kids, itmight be another fight. But who

(29:49):
knows. I'm crying. I mean, I mean I grew up in Texas,
so like concerts and stuff weren't wasn'tsomething that I was doing. Or
it's so interesting that you say that. I feel like not to interrupt you
or anything, but there's other peoplefrom like the Midwest or like different parts
of the country that really don't experienceconcerts as much as people from big markets

(30:14):
like La Boston, Like all myconcerts were in Boston. Like I'm from
Rhode Island, but the closest showswere Boston. But it was fine to
travel. But like every tour goesinto Boston. Yeah, every single one
that goes to l Yeah. Myfirst concert was George Straight and we drove
to Oklahoma for it. That isthe most Texas that is that you could
said, my god. So Ifeel I feel that little me really comes

(30:37):
out from college me, if thatmakes sense, Like I kind of you
little me as college me, becausethat's when when I moved out here and
I started going to college in LA, That's when the real like Spark for
Joy concerts came through. And youknow, that version of me wouldn't believe
where I am right now. SoI always like it's a pinch myself.

(31:02):
Like yesterday, I'm sitting at mydesk and you're telling me Joe Carey walks
in. I'm like, hello,I just spent the entire quarantine watching Stranger
Things and you're walking by my desk. It's so wild. It's so wild.
It's like one of those things thatI never want to take for granted,
the position that I'm in right now. Here's here's to a little luss
Mikayla. To drink an energy drink, I don't like that it's called that.

(31:26):
It's celsius. It's an energy drinking. Sorry, it's my last one
ever. You didn't think you werean energy drinkirl, I just drink.
Was holding up for a drinking fromthe entire time, waiting to be sorry.
Man a little less. I justdon't ever drink the whole thing.
Okay, I talk too much,So I'm gonna take a quick commercial.
Bring We'll come back to you guys. So back, so back, Michayla,

(31:57):
you're next here. Let's plug in, back in, yes, all
right, hit us with the song. All right, you know we had
some justin Timberlake in there, andthen now we have Megan Traynor, who
is back. Dude, dude, she has the bops. Let me tell
you doesn't miss she doesn't, butyou no know what This one was interesting

(32:17):
because she always finds a way tomake her songs like, you know,
empowering and like fun and like youknow, even though they might be a
little corny, they're bops and likethey're so fun, Like I'm gonna listen
to it I'm gonna dance to it, you know. But this one,
I feel is like a mix ofall her songs thrown together. She talks
about bass, so it's like hersong all about that bass. And then

(32:39):
mother, it's just all about bodypositivity still and like, I didn't even
say the name of the song, but it's been like this and she's always
been like that. So she justtalks about who she is what like,
she just talks about everything she's accomplishedand what she's happy about. And it's
just all in this song. Shegot that I said, I give me

(33:07):
Juicy. I mean, she justhypes herself up at every song and this
is what this song is doing, and it's so fun. But I will
say it was trending on TikTok.Her last song was to she she in
her last song, she had postedsaying I need a hit, I need

(33:29):
a viral song and her last songwas crazy and because of TikTok, I
also didn't realize that te Pain wasgoing to be on this track until it
got released. I agree, Yeah, I didn't know. Yeah, he
sounds amazing on it. I lovehim, he always does. She was
saying she wanted to work with TeaPaint her entire life and has been like
dying to make it happen. Andthen finally her label surprised her on her
birthday and brought Tea Pain in Andnow he's like, on this track,

(33:52):
cool that crazy little make the thingin the middle. I love pain love
it. Also, you want toknow what this song? What you can
hear in the background, Huh?I believe it's a saxophone bringing it back,
brings bring brought to you by Saxophone, the official instrument be on the
Playoff podcast. Really every song, one of the songs that we've been talking

(34:15):
about in the last two months hashad a saxophone. Common scene here the
saxophone having a moment. It isis the saxophone? Are we declaring this
right now? Yeah? A podcastMegan Trainer always has like a saxophone because
he said that like diner vibe, yes, and a lot of school kind
of yea, very much so.And it sounds very much like I'm making
Trainer song. But then like Ijust kept hearing it, and then I
was going through my day and Iwas like, I just want to say

(34:43):
this too, because we had herin for an interview, uh yesterday she's
so freaking cool. It's funny. She's so cool. She followed me on
TikTok. I am nobody on TikTok. Wow. And then she came into
the studio and she goes, John, what's up? I just follow you
on TikTok? I said, what? Thank you right? Respectfully nobody?

(35:04):
What do you got to be hernew best friend? She said, Hey,
collab with me. And then shewas like, before I leave,
we're going to make a TikTok becauseyou need to boost your numbers maybe be
best friends. So I think youneed to like hit her up another time,
like, Okay, you don't haveto be that cool, and she
like did that. She did herdance to the song with Jill from My
Morning show. Like she was genuinelyjust so cool, and I was like,

(35:24):
good for her, man, Likeit just made me love her so
much more. That's amazing. Shewas great numbers though, John, I
know, She's like, Jill, you're doing a great job. John,
You're working on it. Still knewheres you know here? Are you new
here? That's right? Is thather? Are you new here? No?

(35:44):
But it's like a TikTok she's that'swhy. That's Okay, you knew
here. I just kidding. Probablyshe saw it on a reel today.
Wow. Okay, No, that'sgood. We need someone to represent the
real culture because you know, themoms and dads are out there, you

(36:06):
know what moving anyway, I'm justmessing with you. What else. So
this one was kind of random, but I had it marked. I was
ready for it to come out.Did you watch Gossip Girl? No,
but yes you didn't. It's likeI feel like I would like it.
Yeah, it's yeah, okay, okay, yes, I would like So

(36:29):
Chuck Bass fast, You're right.I don't know because the Meghan Traanner all
about that bass is in my head. And so Chuck Bass is the character
we're back that Ed Westwick plays andhe's in a band, yes he is.
And this song, you know,I'm bringing you that alt you know,

(36:49):
alternative rock rock, and it's calledHere Comes Trouble and he's in this
band called for You, And it'sa vibe that came out to because from

(37:10):
so good dude, it reminds youlike beech Weather and like Cagy l Yes,
yeah, and I love that vibe. It's so good, like imagine
not live with the guitar. Okay, okay. Also, I loved Chuck
Bass. I know he's like acontract. I hated him, but loved
I hated you loved you loved him, hate him? Yeah, what's the
deal is he like? No,you have to watch him play? Okay?

(37:32):
I didn't sound so bad? Yeah, because that on its own doesn't
sound so bad. That song cameup on my TikTok oh did it like
a week ago, And that's howI knew about it, slaging social media
app where we get to watch andI guess what she's gonna see it on.

(37:52):
I saw it on Instagram. Isat on Instagram. I said,
honestly, Friday shot it actually,so that way I can look it up.
Scrange shot. You know it's okaystarting you're okay, thirty show.
Yeah, and that's you know allI got? Okay, I loved it

(38:13):
all right, Mary passing on overhere, you go, oh nice catch?
Do what up? Okay? I'vegot several and I'm not entirely sure
where to start, So I'm goingto dive right in by bringing up a

(38:34):
song that came out last week.I wish I had realized that it came
out last week, but it's byVirginia Vegas and the song is I know.
That's why I was like surprised thatwe both missed it last week.
So don't be a hater. Okay, I have cut you off twice and
I'm so a please. Is yourrelease radar out of We're unhinged? It's

(39:00):
is your release radar out of whackthis week? Yes, dude, it
was like there were so many artiststhat it missed, and then it gave
me a bunch of artists that thesame way and then didn't get it,
and then some of them didn't updateat all. None of these songs changed.
I don't get it, which iswhy I feel like I missed it
last week. Yeah, that couldbe because I feel that I'm not getting
an accurate I have to like doublecheck when I find a song that I
like if it came out that weekor not. There bens some release radar

(39:22):
mishaps. Lately, get it togetheranother company which shall not be named,
shall not be named anyway anyway,Virginia Vegas. The song is called Time.
I loved this one because it fitsthe theme of what we've been talking

(39:44):
about for the last like two orthree weeks, which is like we're all
getting older, Like that's just whatit is, Like, I should we
stop talking about that, but welike can't. We can't control it.
And it's it's a very common themewe've had in the last couple of weeks.
But you know, the whole thewhole song is just about how we
can't control time. We should likelike like love the moment that we're in,

(40:06):
relish the moment that we're in.John may Stop this train action.
That's my favorite John Mayor song.It really is, it really really does.
But you know, we should makethe most of every moment that we're
in with the time that we have. And you know, the opening lyrics
are take me back to riding bikesaround the cul de Sac and jumping over
sidewalk cracks with my brother after schooldreams. We had never knew we would

(40:29):
grow up so fast, and summersunderneath the sun don't last even if you
want them to. So it's justlike that was the opener, and I
was immediately no, I know.So it's just you can't control time.
We should really just relish in themoments that we're in. And as we
talk about us getting older, wealso think about our parents getting older,

(40:50):
and we've all talked about that andhow that just kind of messes with our
heads. But another one of thelines in the song is like he woke
up one day and he was like, I realized it look more like my
dad, And it's just like,oh my gosh. It's because we're all
getting older and we're starting to looklike our parents, and our parents are
getting older, and it's just likethis thing. All I can't, dude,
I think about that all the timebecause like my so, my dad
was like thirty when he passed, and so like all my photos of him

(41:12):
are thirty wow, And now likeI'm getting I'm like essentially that age.
So it looks like you're dad.The people who know him say so,
like my mom says obviously. Andwhen I start to see the pictures now,
I start to see it, likeI never really saw it as much
growing up, and now I'm like, this is wild. Yeah, except
he was ripped, but I sawhave high hopes first summer twenty twenty four.
I'm dead. So anyway, Ireally liked that release, and I'm

(41:34):
sad that I missed it last week, but still thought it was worth bringing
to the table. This week becauseit's just a good song too. It's
just a fun, you know, nostalgic feel. Yeah. So I liked
that one a lot good. Onesecond one I want to talk about is
from Jake Scott. Of course Ilove him. Yeah. This song was
off of his recent album release Lavender. It's called One on the Way,

(41:55):
but he re released it with strings. And if you should know anything about
me is I love a string instrument. I love a string instrument. And
I just love the way that heuses the phrase one on the way,
which is obviously the song title,as like different stages of a relationship.
So when you're dating someone, he'sgot one drink on the way on a
date or maybe, and then onering on the way when he's looking to

(42:17):
engage, like be engaged, andthen one baby on the way. So
it's just like such a sweet song. And I really really enjoyed the string
instrument added to it. I've gotone on the way, I've got one
on the way, Like tell methat isn't just so pretty? I like

(42:39):
it. Lean back in my chair, it was like the ceiling and in
my mind for a minute, Iwas like in a meadow, just like
yeah, yeah, I was likeI was like, don't you just want
to lay in a field of flower? Ye? Yeah, I was like
wow, Like the ceiling disappeared andI was looking at the blue sky and
I was like, this is yes, this is nice. But he just
he uses that phrase as like, you know, she's asking for a drink.

(43:00):
It like, don't worry, Ialready have one on the way.
It's like, oh, she's askingfor a like are you gonna buy me
a ring? He's like, don'tworry, I have one on the way.
And it's just like I loved that. That was you know, the
theme of the song anyway, andthen added the strings, Oh my gosh,
so good, so good. That'sa good one. All right,
last and final one that I havefor you, guys. I really want
to debrief the Casey Musgraves album.Yes, I haven't had time to get

(43:20):
to this one yet. I wasgonna hear it this weekend. I didn't
get to sit with it as longas I would have hoped. Yeah,
it's only been out twelve hours.Really, I know. And I don't
want to like misspeak on it becauseI really feel like there's probably a deeper
meaning to a lot of the songsright, because it what I gathered is
it kind of feels like the thirdalbum of a trilogy, like when you
think about Golden Hour. It cameout in twenty nineteen, she was married,

(43:44):
Star Crossed came out, and Ibelieve twenty twenty one she got divorced,
and now she's released Deeper Well, which kind of feels like maybe an
album that she's so it's like abegin again, an album, like a
healing album with the end of anera type situation. And so I liked
it as a whole. Everyone iskind of embracing this, like folk era

(44:06):
Falcon country having a moment right now. Yeah, so I feel like she's
kind of really embraced that as well. In saxophones, saxophones in this album,
Actually no, I don't think so. But the guitar in this first
song that I'm going to talk about, it's called Sway. It's so like
hypnotizing. I don't really know whatelse to like describe it as other than

(44:28):
hypnotizing, but Baby Wonday, I'lllearn how the like the guitar sound,
I don't know what it was,but I started listening to it, I

(44:51):
was just like entranced by totally yeah, and maybe it's because it's so like
this structure to it. That's thefirst thing I noticed. So yeah,
interesting that you say that. Yeah, but this the whole meaning of the
song is like, you know, maybe one day she'll learn to be able
to go with the flow, youknow. And I'm very type A,

(45:13):
I think, which that's the onethat's like rigid instructure. I'm very type
A. Like that's why you're sogood at your job though, m fair,
but like just being able to gowith the flow, change plans,
you know, people saying you know, they'll be there and do this thing,
but they're late and all of thisstuff is like very hard for me

(45:34):
to be, yeah, to belike go with the flow. And so
listening to that, I was like, wow, this is relatable because maybe
one day I'll learn how to dothat. Yeah, maybe one of those
car dealer balloons. But anyway,So I love a plan and I just
loved that song because I was like, this is relatable because maybe one day

(45:57):
I'll learn how to do it.And I haven't done it yet, but
maybe one day. But I feellike we need those people though, because
you just have a bunch of cardealer blends and like there's no structure in
anything. You know. Well,I think I'm go with the flow with
some things, but most of mostof the time, I'm I love a
plan. I love a time.Give me a time, a plan of
action. When are we getting there? It's comforting to know what's coming,
you know, totally hear. Also, the second part that I wanted to

(46:21):
bring up about this song is,as you already heard, it's like a
very soft, you know, repetitive, like hypnotic type song. But the
end caught me by surprise. Myjaw was on the floor when I listened
to it, like you think itends wow to whatever is playing that bass

(46:54):
in the background is like chill, isn't that crazy? That is so pretty?
So I was listening to it andI was like, oh, this
is really relatable, this is reallypretty. I'm I love the like repetitive
guitar sounds in the back. Andthen I was like, Okay, it's
over, but wait, I havea minute left, and it just goes
into that like Angelic the Gates ofHeaven has just yeah. So anyway,

(47:22):
that one just really caught me offguard in all the ways, and I
loved it so much. That's itas a whole. I'm hoping the album
will grow on me. I'm I'mlistening to it to see if if it
will. But I think it's swayso far as the track that stands on
The Winner for sure. I enjoyedit. Though, I enjoyed it,
So we've been trying to tack offtech on some artist interviews to the end

(47:45):
of this weird deteriorating by the minute. We got to get out. I
gotta get out of here.
