(00:00):
What's up. I'm John, I'mMarley, and I'm Mikayla, and you're
listening to on the playlist and Iheart Radio New Music podcast. Back to
the old intro, I love You, We're Bad, A new intro,
We're Bad? Wow? Is thatyour John Camucci impression? I didn't hate
(00:20):
it? Marley. Are you supposedto be in the meeting right now?
No? I just double checked, and I'm not supposed to be in a
meeting right now. You weren't goinganyway, so literally, just to politely
decline if I did have one rightnow? Yeah, Well, welcome back
on the playlist. My name isJohn. We got Marley here, who
should be in a meeting, butshe's ditching it for this podcast. That's
(00:41):
false, But I am Marley.Do you get nervous if I spread false
rumors about you and your bosses mightlisten? Uh? No, because my
boss knows everything. Oh? Nice? Waits is your boss? Who's your
direct boss? Does it start withthe sea? Yes? She's cool.
Yes, I'll talk about with Kayla. She's here with us too. Hey,
how's your day mand so far?Let me tell you today has been
(01:04):
busy, but last night was busier, hectic, or crazier. Okay,
okay, all right. I wasin Florida this weekend, Orlando Universal to
be exact, and Marley was pickingme up from the airport. Oh landed
at like eight fifty. I waslike, oh, lax, he's a
good friend. I got her nexttime, homie. Yeah. So I
(01:25):
was like, you know what,I usually take the flyaway, but I
had to get up so early threeforty five for work this morning. I
was like, I just need someonelike instant, so I asked Marley.
I usually won't ask anyone for lax. They know it's a hike. So
I really appreciated it. So Itext her. I'm like, oh,
we're delayed, like now, it'sgoing to be like nine thirty time.
This was at like three thirty.Though three thirty she's texting me. She's
(01:47):
like, I'm on the plane justso you know, it is delayed slightly,
so instead of landing at nine,it'll be nine thirty. I said,
okay, okay, whatever, noproblem, then please continue please.
So then I sit down. Didn'tnotice that the window I'm in an aisle
seat, the middle seat was empty, and then there was gonna be someone
at the window. But I didn'tnotice that the window pane or border thing
(02:08):
like the panel part panel part brokeoff, and so when the guy sat
in that seat, he goes,I just want to give this to you.
This fell off the window. Andthen the flight attendant was like,
oh, okay, we'll let themknow. And so I was like,
well, okay, so do Ifeel safe? Are we talking about the
full white panel? Yeah, likethe picture, oh so like this is
(02:31):
almost in the last airline situation. It was like, okay, so I
think it's just like the trim.As you can see, it's the border
of the window. The border ofthe window makes me feel better. So
yeah, so I was like,it's just the trim like she told me.
I was a little nervous too,but maybe it's like suction cups,
like the whole window together, LikeI don't know. I was like,
(02:52):
maybe it will be in place, but what do I know. As a
flight attendant, you just have tokeep it together even if you don't know
something. He like kind of waschilling about it. But then one of
the other flight attendant goes, whatis that. I was like, oh,
so, clearly they don't know ifthis is good or bad. They
have no idea, so before takeoff, before takeoffs, So now we're
even more delayed because they have tohave someone come fix it. They didn't
(03:13):
think it was going to be anissue. They come and they fix it.
You want to know what they did? They duct taped it. I
was like, okay, clearly they'rethey're not worried. Yeah, not that
to fill out paperwork. An hourgoes by. Now I'm like all buckled
in, I have my headphones in, my legs are up, ready for
my snack. Another guy comes in, excuse me, man, we have
to fix the window. I'm like, what do you mean you got to
(03:35):
fix it? You just did? They have to place the whole thing.
She's like, I've been on thisplane to do that. They did not
deplane and guess what's my roe?So I have to stand up while they
do it, like plane staring atyou tube. I'm like, Okay,
that's probably not knowing what's happening either. You don't whatever, Like when things
happen in an airplane and it's notin your row, You're always like,
what's going on? Ida, dude? My biggest the thing that I hate
(03:58):
the most is when you're sitting therein the air place and you haven't taken
off. It's so irritating. There'ssomething about it. It's it's not going
anywhere but sitting in that stupid, uncomfortable seat. And then that's when I'm
the most tired. So then Inap, and my biggest annoyance is when
I nap and then I wake upand we still haven't moved. I can
barely sleep on planes, so Iwasted my nap and we're not even in
the air, so the whole plane. Honestly think I had my eyes closed
(04:20):
before the second guy came, andso when I opened my eyes, I
was like, oh God, hello. Yeah. So a couple hours later
we were finally off because then westill were on the tarmac waiting to take
off because we were so late,so we had a lot of other planes
go so they were on time.Jeez. I didn't go to bed till
twelve thirty I think Morning Show today, yep. And then Marley picked me
(04:45):
up. She's a saint, butI texted her. Yeah, yeah,
But I texted her and I landedand then poor things she had to wait
another hour because we could not getto a gate. Okay, so but
here's what happened on my end,so actually things worked out better better for
me then it probably sounds because itsounds terrible. She she told me she
was gonna land around ten. Isaid, perfect. She actually texted me
(05:08):
at nine. I think it waslike nine thirty. Yeah, we landed
early, and I was still sittingin my driveway and I was like,
Okay, no problem, it's gonnatake me half an hour to get there
going through the you know, Laxtraffic, getting her bag by the time,
that should all work out perfectly.I'm rolling into Lax and I'm like,
hey, I'm here, like, what's your status, hoping that she
would at least be at baggage claim, and she goes, oh, I'm
(05:29):
still we're still not at a gateyet. And I was like, okay,
wonderful. So where's the part wherethis is good for you? Because
I'm stuck now in this traffic andso I'm sitting here thinking that I'm gonna
have to go the whole loop.Oh and that is a mission. It's
a battle. Yeah. Yeah. But also supposedly there were already flights like
getting rerouted to Lax, so yeah, like extra packs of storm. Yeah,
(05:50):
there's like a bunch of like windstorms happening, I guess across the
country, so people were being reroutedto Lax which is why it was so
chaotic. Yeah, you know, thirty on a Sunday night. But I
ended up going to the far leftlane and there was an airport exit like
just random like right off the littleshort type situation like cutting through the airport,
(06:14):
which I haven't seen this before.Noticed and I was like, oh,
I'm out of here so quick, yep, and I just exited and
I just drove around, you know, Inglewood, and only Kayla was like,
I am at baggage claim. Andthen I went back to the airport.
So you guys are feeling it today. So it worked out. See,
this is why we're doing the podon Fridays because it's gonna be less
(06:35):
chance of everyone being exhausted on aMonday. So this is gonna be our
last Monday doing this. I hope, yes, consistent Fridays from now on.
This is our packed Fridays. Friday, Packed Friday, Pack Friday,
packed hands in Friday on three onetwo three Friday. Okay, that was
so late, listen, and that'sthat's the Friday packed on a Monday and
(06:55):
that's even more reason why we're notdoing this on a Monday. But anyway,
let's talk about mus that came outthis last weekend. Plug it in
our ox here, So of coursewe're just gonna start with the big releases.
This is honestly one of my favoritesfrom the weekend. It happened to
be one of the big releases MileyCyrus, Farrell Williams Doctor Your Doctor,
and it's only don't get wors can'tstop hearing those little in the back Miley.
(07:29):
Oh my god. So when Iwas looking into it though, it
turns out that this song was aBanger's era Miley song. Really, it's
been under wraps for like almost tenyears. I guess Pharrell had produced a
few of her tracks from the Banger'salbum and this was one of them that
they ended up locking up, andso some people have leaked it over the
years online. So you've heard littleversions of this throughout the years. But
(07:53):
then Farrell dug it back up.He previewed it at some Louis Vuitton fashion
show and then they dropped it backagain. So then when I heard the
sexual my noises, I was like, oh, that's why this is banger's
there. Yeah, I liked it, though I don't think she sounds so
good in this. I think shesounds good too, And it's cool that
if this was written that long ago, like she could come out with this
today as a brand new song.We would never know because it's such a
(08:13):
banger like, it's Miley just she'sgot it man, and her styles changed.
But also to your point, likeif she were to have released this
ten years ago versus now, likeyou would still consider it a Miley sound.
Yeah, yeah, that's yeah, that's so true. She hasn't changed
like that much, I think. And then there's this new release from twenty
one Pilots. It's called Overcompensation.Yeah maybe, did you guys know like
(08:46):
the whole lore with the releases thattwenty one Pilots does? No they you
mean? I like honestly didn't knowthis until I started to look into the
song. But they build an entireworld with their releases and like a storyline
and it's a part of this hugeera. So they came out with this
album in twenty fifteen and that's whatbegan it the Blurry Face album. And
(09:07):
when they came out with this one, they released a trailer for it that
was like six minutes long, andthey go into like describe this world that
they're in. Essentially, it's kindof gnarly. They built this story with
this one that there's two members whobecome escapees and they're washed up on a
new island where a mysterious creature hasgranted one of them a miraculous power,
and they returned to the world ofthe Trench. Oh intrigue, And I
(09:28):
was like it almost confused me alittle bit because I had to go look
into this. But like they usethese cryptic messages and these easter eggs and
they tell things that fall into thisbig storyline, and I didn't even understand
that there was that much of likea twenty one Pilot's following to get into
these worlds. But like they reallydo this interesting. So this album is
supposed to, like that's coming out, it's supposed to like wrap up this
(09:50):
era since twenty fifteen. So it'slike a big deal for twenty one Pilots
fans. I mean they've and they'vegot a huge to your point, a
huge following. Yeah, I know, and I didn't they did this.
It's like, I guess it's kindof similar. Like, I guess it's
fun for artists to build worlds.I guess Taylor kind of does that right,
Like she maybe doesn't build out specificworlds, but with the Easter eggs
(10:11):
and stuff, it brings you intothe universe of trying to figure stuff out.
Yeah. I guess this is theirway of kind of doing something similar
to that but interesting. Another bigrelease from five Seconds of Summer, teaming
up with David Ghetta and Glantis onLighter I Don't Let It Go? Is
(10:43):
it such a summer song? It'sso good, it's so fun. He
sounds amazing. This is one ofthose songs that I feel like was like
it was meant to be heard live. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This
is a festival song. Absolutely soundtrackof the summer Taxa situation. It's so
lame that this came out on arainy day weekend in LA because I was
(11:03):
like, this song just feels likebeing out by the pool or for sure
jumping off a roof into the poolor something, but you know, like
something kind of kind of big crazy. Galantis two m DJs. I feel
like everything that they make sounds likethat. They are such like a fun
wholesome party vibe, I think, and then obviously you have David Ghetto too,
But then five seconds of Summer beingin on the vocals was came out
(11:24):
of left field for me. Iwas surprised by that. I will say,
the one thing that I wish wasslightly different about this song is I
wish there was more opportunity for theother guys from five seconds the Summer to
have some kind of vocal situation inthere. The only like time I heard
(11:45):
it was during this clip Tucking pullthis matter because inches well so like and
I think it's Callum, But Ijust I wish there was like a Callum
(12:05):
section of the song or like Michaelchiming in somewhere, because they all have
such great vocals. I think itwould have added so much to the song.
Not that Luke doesn't sound great. He sounds amazing. That's the one
thing I wish seconds of Summer songyou want to hear all. Yeah,
totally, there's a least more harmoniesin it, for sure. I saw
this interview. I think it wasCallum saying this, and I guess they
(12:26):
haven't done a traditional collab like this, like an official collab in like five
years, and he was saying likehe sometimes thinks that just people don't like
him, so they don't reach outand try and get into collabs. He
just like wants it to make sense, like them as people or like,
I don't know. Isn't it sointeresting how you can get so in your
head because of five seconds of Summeris easily regarded as an incredible band,
(12:46):
and I feel like everyone who's seenthem live is like, yeah, they're
one of the best to do it. So it's interesting that you can still
be in your head about that. The show that MICHAELA and I went and
saw at the Forum was easily,Like I've seen them quite a few times
amount of times over the last liketen years at this point, like I
started seeing them in twenty fourteen.Easily one of the best shows I've ever
(13:07):
been to was the one that Mikaelaand I just went to. The energy
is unmatched. It's crazy fun.Yeah, and their music just continues to
get better in my opinion, Yeah, they their sound is developed a lot,
I think. Yeah, I thinkI'm personally a little bit more of
a fan of the more traditional albumsfrom them, like the first few,
because they're a little bit more punkpop pop punk. I mean those are
(13:28):
still good, don't get me wrong. Yeah, But this last album that
they had really real fan of it, the one that came out. I
think it was last summer. Itwas too summer. It was two.
It was in September of like twentytwenty two. I think it was the
night of the iHeart Radio Music Festivalin Vegas. That's what I was listening
to when I got ready every dayfor the festival. Was that entire album.
It was. It's one of myfavorites by them. I think I'm
(13:48):
with you on that, all right. I'm going to get into my personal
picks this week. I only havetwo of them. Kind of a slower
week, I think today. Firstwas a release by I think his name
is Hugel. It might be HughGel, but this is a song that
was trending heavy on TikTok and nowit's finally out and it took forever.
This is one of those ones thathe teas for months before I came out.
(14:11):
But the song is in Spanish, like I am in love with this,
no idea what he's saying, nota single clue. And it's so
interesting to me because it's hard forme to get into songs that are not
(14:33):
in English. And maybe that soundslame, but there are some even DM
producers who have songs in French andlike their native country. I guess you
could say, and and when theFrench part comes in. Listening to songs
and other languages is difficult for mebecause obviously you want to connect, you
want to connect to the lyrics, and when I don't fully understand what the
song's about, it's hard for meto connect. This is probably the first
(14:54):
song not in English that got mein my feels. I don't know what
it feels like you're floating on acloud. It does feel like you're float
on a cloud, like another sunsetkind of summer vibe. But chill and
I have no idea was saying, not saying that idea with the worse he
could be saying, I hate chilies, and for all I know, I
hate and I don't care like So. The song is called patatas the Ajo
(15:18):
Gatto, and I looked up thetranslation. It translates directly to I think
I could be getting this wrong,So if you speak Spanish, I'm sorry,
right, but it translates directly tograsping its straws, and they say
sometimes it contextually means like to kicksomeone when they're drowning. I still don't
know how that applies. I haveno idea. I tried looking up this
phrase. I just don't get it. I don't speak Spanish. I should
have asked one of my friends whodo. But like it was a last
(15:39):
minute when I got this song together, and I have no idea what it
means. But who cares? Johnis doing this, like I know,
he's like a bird flying like John? What is this like wrist flesh that
he's doing? This is me floatingon the clouds. No, that's you
flying away from the clouds, abeautiful song, goating so hard. So
(16:02):
that was one. Look up thelyrics what they actually mean? Yeah,
okay, you should. It's oppositeof what you think. Oh I thought
you just looked it up right now? No I didn't. Oh yeah,
I kind of do. Yeah Ahow gattos? They wait? No,
but that us they hell gatto.I don't know how to spell that.
P A T A d as.I'm really nervous now, d E.
(16:22):
I got it. Okay, soit's a remix. By the way,
this guy remixed the song. That'swhy it took so long to come out.
I guess he needed approval or whatever. But I would love to know
what some of these words and whenI feel vulnerable, John, Wow,
come on, hold me another moment, hamper me for the rest of my
life. I want to know whatyou want cry for? What makes you
(16:44):
cry? Be the music you prefer, and then you never want to pause
me. I want to know whatyou want. Dude, feels you smell
like vanilla. I love you. That's the first line. Did you guys
ever hear this? For some reason, men love the smell of vanilla.
Yeah, I know that. That'swhy they make women like vanilla sense.
They always say that, do youlike it? I love vanilla? They
say that that's such a thing.I don't know, Maybe that's basic of
(17:07):
me. So the last song Iwanted to talk about today is by Tiny
Habits and it's kind of a slowerone. It's called Mudroom, so it's
kind of got that like folk indiefolk kind of feel to it. Very
slow and Tiny Habits they have performedwith JP Sacks when I saw him.
(17:32):
They have a song with Leazia McAlpine. Okay, that's why. I was
like, where do I recognize thatname from? Yeah? This pop group
out of the Berkeley College of Musicfrom Boston. They like all have this
they all have incredible voices. Butthis song I thought was so interesting.
So I looked into it a littlebit, and I mean, we don't
experience this here much in southern California, but some houses have a mudroom.
(17:52):
And it's this space in the housewhere you take off your outdoor clothing,
right if your shoes are full ofmud. We have one at my house.
Do you really m hm? Ohin Texas? No, in Idlewild.
Where's that? It's in the mountainsin California. Yes, John really
lived your whole life a wild.I don't know where that is. Idle
Wild Is that close to here?Yeah, it's like about Pump Springs.
(18:14):
Oh, that's so close to here. My parents and they have a mudroom.
They do. They have mudroom. So cool. That's something I didn't
really know too much of. I'veheard of a mudroom, but like I've
never used one, you know.So this song is is kind of asking
the question of well, it's aboutthe fear of jumping into something new,
but it's also asking the question likedo you need to be healed from passcars
before entering into essentially a new relationship? And they use this metaphor of a
(18:37):
mudroom that before you go inside tothis warm, bright home that is very
comfortable, you got to get yourdirt off in the mudroom. And then
they have these lyrics that are essentiallytalking about waiting in the mudroom and you
have all this mud on your bootsand it says is hesitation to a good
thing, meaning the wounds need morehealing. So like, if you're hesitant
to jump into something, does thatmean you're not fully healed yet? And
(19:00):
like that's the question that they're asking, like do you need to be fully
healed to jump into something else?Do you need to have all the dirt
off your feet before you go in? Wow? Is that kind of interesting?
It is interesting? I know,I thought that was an interesting question.
I don't. Do you think youneed to be fully healed before you
jump into a new relationship? No? But then does it mean that it's
(19:21):
you're just trying to like feel somethingagain with someone, like you know,
a rebound. Yeah, they canbe, but I get I know someone
there's definitely a healthy Sorry, goahead, No, I just know someone
who's always in a relationship, likehe can't be single. But I think
we all know someone like that. But he really genuinely like loves the person
he's with, yes, and makesit work. And so I'm like,
(19:41):
Okay, well, maybe it's justlike it's a way of healing or you
just heal faster. So true,I don't know. I almost admire that.
I think, yeah, because youfind the beauty and everyone, and
I think you just try and makeit work whatever it is, Like you
don't really have like you're not verypicky. I guess you know. Where's
me? Like I feel like Ineed years to find someone that is exactly
what I'm looking for. So Ijust think there's like a healthy amount of
(20:03):
healing that needs to be done beforeyou jump into a new relationship. Yeah,
do you think you need to befully healed? Like do you think
if you're still heartbroken you can jumpin with someone new? I mean,
I again, if your heartbroken, like, heal the heartbreak and then you
know when you're ready jump into anew relationship. But like when you talk
(20:25):
about healed in the sense of like, oh, if I've been you know,
hurt in specific aspects of that relationship, Like, obviously you need to
do some healing, but I don'tthink you need to be like fully healed.
I think the fully like some peoplewill will get hurt in a relationship
and get into a new one andthat's how they fix it. Yeah,
but that's how they heal sometimes likerealizing Like I had a friend of mine
(20:48):
who was in a relationship that waslike not a good situation and then she's,
you know, seeing somebody new nowwho is healing those parts of her
that were not you know, goingso well in her pastorship. Yeah,
do you think that if you breakup with that person though, it just
it almost like rips off the bandaid that was covering the other scar,
do you know what I mean?Yeah, I mean maybe that's Yeah,
(21:08):
that's an interesting question. I don'tknow. Yeah, I thought this was
like an interesting question to come froma song. And they also have this
this lyric that says there are allwe all wait now, it says,
there are people that I don't wantto end up like, but we're all
sequels to our parents' lives. AndI thought being sequels to our parents' lives
was such a good line because, like you watch your parents in a relationship
(21:29):
and for better or for worse, like sometimes you see the worst and you're
like, I want to make surethat I do that differently, right,
because we are kind of the sequelto our parents' lives. So I just
thought that, Wow, that wasIt was a cool question to bring up
in a song. You know.So that's my room from Tiny Habits.
Who wants to next? Sure me? Okay, it's going to MICHAELA.
(21:52):
Hey dude, what's up? Heydude? You know, just living life
into new music. I listened tosome of them in line. You know.
Well I was waiting, you know, the line a really long,
so I was like Friday, youwaited honestly an hour. Okay, not
too bad, but when you're witha group of friends, it kind of
goes by fast. You know.Do you have like a game that you
guys go to and play? Nope, nope, yep, you know the
(22:15):
heads Up game from Ellen that shemeans, yeah, that's my favorite line
game. Okay. Well, Disneyactually has like interactive play app that you
can do things in line while you'rereading about and I get that, and
it was it killed my battery, but it was super fun and it made
the lines go by fast. Wow. That's really smart though, the part.
Yeah, so anyway. One songthat stuck out to me was from
Fletcher. She actually has an albumcoming out in March twenty second, but
(22:37):
she's been dropping singles here and there. So the one on Friday was called
doing Better. Oh you and kissyour wander like, well know will so
you want to check in? You'reonly check in? I like that,
right, so catchy. I thinkit's such a clever way of like,
(22:57):
you know, when you break upwith someone. She's like, you know
you're going to keep my number becauseyou're going to check up on me,
you know, And I told you, you know, next time you see
me, like I'm gonna be lookingbetter and like doing better. So it's
like no matter what. Even someof my friends who end relationships, I
creep on them or our friends likewhat are they doing now? Oh is
this person who like you can't helphelp you can't? And so I just
(23:19):
thought this was so such a funcatchy song in the way that she goes
from like that like verse to thatcatchy chorus. Yeah, it's a vibe,
yeah vibe. But she's like, yeah, I'm on stage with Miley
too, you know, so sheis she was with Miley, she was
on she per formed with Miley atlike a New Year's Eve thing with Miley
(23:40):
and stuff, and yeah, yeah, you're doing pretty well. She's doing
She's doing pretty good, So Ithink you are to keep her number.
That's like I hate that. Ilook out for that. But like,
every time I'm out of a relationship, it's really the best time you will
ever see me. I will belike the fittest ever. I will be
the nicest ever him. Yeah, and that's what the song's about too,
you know. But I mean,is that necessarily a good thing? Or
(24:02):
is amazing? That's breaking up?It's gonna make you better? I know.
I used to think that in college. I was like, you know,
I feel like once a year Ineed a good breakup. But like,
why couldn't you do that during likethe relationship that's so scary? Better
you or whatever it is. Ofcourse, like a part of that is
of wanting someone to see you better, But I think the part is like
proving to yourself, because I feellike that's when your self esteem is that
(24:22):
the low. Is it your lowesttwo? Yeah, So it's almost like
proving to yourself that you can bebetter, you know right. I mean
that brings me kind of to thisnext song, which is from Games We
Play. They just released an albumon Friday called Life's Going Great, And
before we play this clip, Ijust wanted to say that this brings you
back to like the early two thousandspump rock era with the na nas and
(24:44):
stuff. But also he's saying likeit's just typical him, like this is
how he's going to be. There'slines in it that say, you know,
he's not being able to change. So she's alwaysdresed up to the nines
while I'm always waking up at five. I was on my one hundred second
chance, and she was always makingother plans. You're like, this is
just me, Like I'm gonna screwit up and you're not going to change
me. So it's that you dealwith it or you don't. But he's
(25:06):
kind of like bashing himself on it, like I should get my stuff together,
I should, you know, I'mmaking all these typical me yeah promises
like I'm going to exercise, I'mgonna get a better job, I'm going
to do this for her, andhe doesn't. So but it's catchy and
it's definitely going to take you back. So it's called typical me. I
(25:36):
can always count on you to bringlike such a good Rocks throwback song like
that is. I love it reallyso good. I've been listening to it.
It's so catchy. It reminds meof something too. I'm trying to
like, I'm trying to think aboutwhat it is. It does remind me
of an old song. I couldnot put it. I have to figure
it out, and I was tryingto before this podcast. I also want
to go back and listen to thewhole album because this is just taking me
(25:57):
back. So the whole album isout this yeah, I came out on
Friday. I would for sure golisten to more of it based on this
one song. Wow, yeah Iknow there. Yeah, I'm really excited
time. It's still typical. It'slike giving simple plans. Yeah, it's
(26:19):
one song, and it's bothering tofigure this is the song it sounds like.
But all I can think of isthat song that's like, uh there
she time out I do. Butyeah, so that's what I have and
(26:45):
I hope you like them. Thankyou? Okay Marley put this It was
waiting for to throw No, it'sokay, where threat? Okay? So
my first son was gonna be lighter, yes, which we have already discussed,
so I will move right along tomy second. Yeah, you guys
(27:07):
have those covers like, I'm noteven gonna add it to my playlist even
though it is. Oh, it'sa banger. So the second one that
I wanted to talk about is CaseyMuskgraves. She came out with a with
another release, and let me tellyou it's another good one. It's the
sound that she has is very similarto her Golden Hour album. Huh,
and I loved that album. Sothis, this like continuation of that sound
(27:33):
is something that I'm really into. And the song kind of is alluding to
how she may have been burned inpast relationships and is scared to jump into
a new one because she's waiting forthe other shoe to drop. Like one
of the lines was a tidal wavewithout a warning. You know, summer's
gone, You're still here for bothof us. It's been a year.
A tidal wave without a warning.I'm like, dang, dang. So
(27:55):
anyway, it's I loved this one. Please don't lately Chris Up horm so
well then scared to give again becauseto me and all the good Please don't
(28:19):
think too good to be true.I forgot to mention that the song is
titled to good to be True.I'm so sorry. Yeah, but yeah,
just like alluding to how she,you know, is in this relationship
and it's been a year and she'sbeen kind of waiting for the other shoot
to drop. But you know, don't let me what she said, don't
let me regret opening up that partof myself. Like she's having to reopen
(28:42):
up this part of herself that shemay have to go back to what we
were talking about earlier. Ben alots of similar themes today. Yeah,
to be burned in a past relationshipand you know, be good to me
and I'll be good to you,but don't be too good to be true.
Did you say her on SNL?No, I don't think I watched
it killed it this weekend. Ithink she's right. Did perform her two
new ones? It might have beenthis one and there's another new one that
(29:06):
yes, well that's a good onetoo. So those two are the only
ones I think that have been releasedoff of this upcoming album that she is
coming she just seems great. Ijust love her her sound so much.
So that was track one, Tracktwo We've Got. Have you guys heard
of Matt Hansen. I don't thinkso. I don't think so either.
I believe I saw him open forChristian French okay, back at the Observatory
(29:29):
in Orange County, like a fewyears back, and he's just got this
like really like powerful voice, andI just remember loving him. So when
I saw this release, I wasexcited and I was definitely not disappointed.
I could go it on, You'renot ready for this? Doesn't it just
(30:12):
make you want to link? Ilove when songs have big hits like that,
Like it gets me into it.And I don't know how to describe
it, but there was something aboutthat chorus or like the punching breaks almost
kind. And this might sound sillybecause obviously, like this is what music
is supposed to do, but likeI feel like those breaks are him trying
(30:32):
to like really convey how he's feelingemotionally, like just being kind of knocked
around. Oh okay, you knowwhat I mean. Like because when you
think about it, you're singing pause, break, singing break, pot Like
it's just like everything is kind oflike a little Does he have a music
video for it or anything? Idon't know. I didn't know that you've
seen. No, not that I'veseen. But that's just how you picture
(30:53):
it. Yeah, that's how Ipictured it. When I was listening to
it at first, I was like, oh my gosh, I was like,
I should not be listening to thisone. I'm that's for sure.
I want to like throw my handsaround. But yeah, so why is
it called gravity? What's he like? Does he use that metaphor in there?
Yeah? I mean he I thinkhe's talking about kind of being you
know, pushed around in a relationship. And yeah, then it's like,
(31:15):
you know, guess, guess youdid what you wanted. You brought me
right back where you you know, wanted me, and I was just trying
to escape. But I can't escapeyour gravity. So yeah, it goes
really hard. So I liked thatone a lot, but that's it for
me to okay, taking this out. Mikayla Yes asked me to jot this
(31:37):
note down. She said, isa guy officially dating a girl he posts
her in his story. This feelsvery specific, So we're going to get
right to that. Hang on Okay, coming back, all right, you
gave me such a vague note aboutthis away, and I wanted to talk
(32:00):
about it so bad, but Iwas like, all right, let's get
through the music. And then inthe second half, I have a story
that I want to tell you guysfrom this weekend too, but we'll get
to that in a minute. Allright, Okay, what happened? So
me and Marley were talking about thisyesterday because we were just like questioning it,
and so we're like, let's askJohn tomorrow on the pod. Okay,
So from his perspective, Yeah,So there's this guy that Marley and
(32:21):
I know, and he never toldus that he was like seeing somebody.
We've hung out with them a fewtimes, you know, And I feel
like someone would mention that, yeah, on the scale of like, like
what kind of friend is this?I mean, very like very surface level,
I would say, like, again, we've only hung out with him,
like maybe like yeah, a coupleof times, but enough to know
whether or not he was dating someone. Yeah, yeah, at least you,
(32:45):
at least you exactly. And sohe reposted a picture with the girl
and there was a heart emoji init. That mean, but I believe
the girl was the one who letthat think that's an important note? Is
I think the group? Yes?She he reposted and she already had the
heart. Okay, what colors theheart? Why? This is what I
(33:14):
think? So I just want tomake sure I have the details clear.
So he reposts an Instagram story fromthe girl's account. It's a picture of
them too. Yes, and there'sa heart that allegedly she put on the
picture. And that's the only captionthat we see. Yes, Okay,
what are they doing? What's thepost? It's like a mirror self?
Yeah? Are they Is he embracingher? I don't remember, I think
(33:36):
so. I think it's like aroundor something. Was it a clear relationship
post or could this have been afriend Well that's that's what we don't know,
because I could imagine it Marley's birthdayparty. If I took a selfie
with Marley and put it up onmy story, I'd probably put a heart
in its us. Okay, they'redating. They're so dating. It's just
(33:59):
like a yeah. So I'm tryingto describe that photo. So he's like
hugging her from the back, He'snot even he doesn't have his arm around
her. Oh, really, Idon't know, but it's just like kind
of leaning on her head. Yeah, but his cheek is on her head.
(34:20):
He's like leaning into her head. His cheek is on it. This
is they're definitely dating. Oh andit says my heart. It's not even
just a white heart. It saysmy heart my and then the white heart.
Yeah, another dating. Okay,I feel like that's not even a
question. I feel like there's moreto this story or just I'm just laughing
that we even brought this up.It's funny. Did you think that there's
(34:43):
a possibility that they're not dating?Well, there was a there was a
possibility that we thought you would havesaid something different. Really yeah, but
also like what was your general consensus? Well, they reposted like a photo
before and we're like, oh,like maybe it is, but I think
it could be a friend. Butthis time we're like, I think it
is, but like we all justhang out in groups, but we've never
met her, but you've never oreven heard about her. Yeah, which
(35:07):
this is interesting. Do you thinkthat when he was hanging out with your
group, like, do you goout of your way? Do you think
someone should go out of their wayto say that they're dating somebody, but
you think it just naturally comes in. I'm sure it would have come up.
And maybe that's like the hard launch. I don't know. It could
be. It could be. Itcould be a new thing, too knows.
We just thought it was funny tosee what you think would if it
(35:27):
was new, like you would doa hard launch like that, Like he
doesn't post about on his store likefeet just that was like the story.
It's just that repost. Okay, what does he do? But me,
I don't know. I mean Iknow, but I don't want to say
it on the pod. Okay,if you said it, is it really
specific? Like is he like anartist? Oh no? Because sometimes I
think as an artist you're trying andkeep up your single persona kind of you
(35:50):
know, you don't like he canpost He's not that special, Like no,
she would. He's not that special. Please, like it doesn't like
no, like no one's looking athim, like is he dating anybody?
I'm not gonna I'm not going toget his concert if he's not single,
Like no, that's not the case. Isn't that interesting though, because I
(36:10):
feel like sometimes guys will just wantto appear single, you know, No,
and that's what's interesting, dude, freaking men. Girls could do that
too, but it's just less.I think it's always so interesting to me
to hear this because I have beenfriends with people through college, with guys
(36:31):
who have just been so played bygirls. And it's so interesting because good
I hang out with a lot ofgirls, especially in this career in industry,
but I think that, like,I hang out with a lot of
good people, so girls like youdon't understand that girls could be like that
too, you know, but thereare some bad girls out there are playing
guys. Now does it compare tothe number of guys that are playing no
(36:52):
problem? Now, you know,I do think guys are objectively worse,
especially here in LA. But that'swhy I'm say, yeah, it might
be better outside of California. Dude. Okay, So this is what I
wanted to ask you guys about speakingof guys outside of California. This question
is not going to follow that, but the story does. My question to
(37:14):
you, how much wait or talkat a table when you're out to eat
at a West restaurant a restaurant whenyou're out at a restaurant like I couldn't
like, let's fly them, soit was deserved. I would have done
something. Okay, he's trying toget it out so fast. When you're
(37:34):
out at a when you're out ata restaurant, what so, what is
the right amount of waiter talk doyou like? Do you just love when
someone's a little bit friendly? Doyou want a conversation? Not get my
food and get out unless you're cute, very cute. Okay, No,
I'm not being mean. Sometimes they'rea really nice time. I really appreciate
it. Yeah, I think it. I think it depends on the situation.
(37:59):
Definitely went out to the Olive Gardenthis weekend. Amazing, right,
just authentic Italian restaurant, authentic andit's just snug. Going for the breadsticks
alone is worth it in my opinion. I agree. I agree, Okay,
salad and breadsticks for me then, because the post is me too,
because the bost is not great. But guess what, the salad and bread
sticks are amazing. Fine, it'sreally hard to mess up Italian fid but
clearly joking with the authentic thing. But like it's it's good. The sauce,
(38:22):
it's fine, Michayla. Just focuson the right anyway. My story
I'm hungry bad. So I sitdown and I'm with my sister and my
mom. And my sister lives inSouth Carolina, so she's in town for
just the weekend, so we don'tget to see each other much. I
don't have lunch with my mom often. So we're sitting there together and this
guy comes up as our waiter, and he comes in hot with conversation.
(38:45):
Right, he is probably in hisfifties. He could be in my mom,
oh, could be who knows. But I'm wearing like my Boston hat.
He asked me about Boston. Mymom's wearing Carolina jacket. He's asking
about Carolina. What's the weather likethere? Oh my god, I'm from
Virginia. Talks to her for tenminut it's before we even get to place
our order. Fine though, Itotally get it that I'm actually very cool
with. So then he takes ourorder, he goes, he comes back,
(39:07):
he brings our pasta. He putsthe pasta in front of each of
us, and then he starts talkingto my mom about the eighties and like
his favorite shows from the eighties andhow music was better than and like that
whole It's like a full on like, he's part of your date? Can
out? Can I ask something?Yes? Was the restaurant busy? No,
he's bored, for sure, onehundred percent he's bored. Okay,
(39:30):
I'm sitting there though, and theriders. I'm about to go check my
pasta, but as riders, I'mabout to take my very first byapasta.
It smelled so good. I wasso hungry. I was so excited to
sit there. He comes to meand he goes, oh, so,
what do you think about the musicnowadays? Like God, I just like
I just wanted to really take aboutthis pasta. But then I was like,
I'm hungry. I'm a little bitangry, probably like I'm just saying
that. So I engage and wetalked for probably another five to ten minutes,
(39:51):
and then we eat our pasta.Oh it's cold, and that's pretckle.
So that's my mom's birthday next week. So he brings a little taramasoo
with the candle on it. Sheblows it out. We all grab bar
for works, were just about togo and dive. He talks to her
about the breakfast cup for ten minutes. We can't eat this, terrasu.
It's my own birthday tersuit. She'sgot to take the first bite. So
I'm sitting there like, dude,I'm just trying to have a dinner in
(40:13):
my family, you know what Imean. Like, I respect the conversation,
but oh my gosh, there comesa point where it's too much.
I feel like I feel like there'san appropriate amount of conversation to em doing
the same thing. Mikayla, Ican't see you. I feel like there's
an appropriate amount of conversation to haveas like, you know, people consuming
food and a waiter totally, butlike do it like the beginning of the
(40:37):
meal or maybe the end, Likeyou're signing the track like oh, here's
the little toast tab thing like goahead, here's your card. What I
like, Oh my god, howlike that's fun. But like when you
put the food down on top, that's too much. You gotta read the
room a little bit. Yeah, that's a little too much. So I'm
just like at this point, likeit was a bit too much talking.
So then we're walking out and aswe're walking out, my mom goes to
(40:57):
the hostess and she goes, canI speak to him? Manru I was
gonna ask, like no, thisis my nightmare. I haven't been around
my mom for a speak to themanager conversation like ten years. I was
so scared, so I was like, I think, I'm just getna go
wait outside, but the manager wasright there. So here comes the manager
and my mom goes. I justwant you to know that was one of
the best waiters I've ever had.He was so sweet. He made my
(41:22):
day. My mom loved it.She loves every second of that conversation to
him. Maybe, and I hopeshe was. I think he was married.
I think it's but I mean,that is sweet. And I feel
like older people, not that yourroom's old, but they do appreciate talk
more because I feel like we don't, you know, we don't appreciate conversation.
(41:42):
We want instant. Yeah, it'sso true. It's so true,
especially on a phone. But I'mnot sparkling up conversations at grocery stores as
much as Yeah, they were oneI remember growing up now that we say
it, like, I feel likewith my nana and my aunts and we
would go to family dinners, likethey had more conversations totally and themselves because
there was no cell phones. Therewas now there was nothing else to do.
(42:04):
There was nothing. Yeah, andyou're not draining your social battery online
or all the million things to payattention to. So interesting, and the
fact that he was older, likeyou said, his fifties, Like I
thought I was wrong. I wasI think I was wrong. And how
funny that, like at this tablefor that whole hour we were on total
totally different pages. My sister andI were nudging each other like is this
(42:25):
guy for real? And the wholetime, I'm always loving every second,
That's all that matters. It mademe really happy, but I was just
like millennials versus boom Yeah, Ithink so yeah, that's wild fifty seven.
But I'm glad you appreciate it anddidn't ruin like her dinner. No,
totally yeah, like my mom.And then like we're getting out of
theater and this guy wanted to liketake a survey for the ads before the
(42:46):
theater, and my sister were like, no, we're going to the car.
My Mom's like I'll take your survey. What a wholesome human being it
was, but wild anyway, anythingelse you guys want to hit before you
get out of here? Got anyconcerts coming up? We've got oh,
(43:07):
because I know we have something tomorrowO the Mains and in studio one of
my hero bands ever. I'm sickover it. Yeah, are you going
to the actual performance? John?John? What was you even on that?
Because obviously I will be there frontro I'm seeing Group Love this weekend.
(43:27):
Oh, that's what I hear.I'm really exciting fun. Yeah,
their music's really good. It's mygirlfriend's favorite band. And yeah, and
she's not as big into music asI am. And so for the past
year of us dating, we've onlygon too gone to concerts for me.
But Laney was she loved Laney,She loved Lady. She's loved most of
the shows. But this is thefirst person that she's like, No,
(43:47):
I want you to see this bandwith me. They're good. That's cool,
That's what I've heard. Excited tosee a band that someone else likes,
you know, that'll be really fun. What day is it, uh?
For Friday Night? So okay,Friday night right up here? Talk
about this in Friday podcast. Butthat's right. Anyway, we'll we'll have
a new episode on Friday. We'reonly going to do these on Friday now.
(44:09):
And we sat down with Knox acouple of days ago. We just
had the best time. But we'lltell you a wholesome human I know.
