Speaker 1 (00:01):
Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
All Right, Well, the Yanks five and one in their
last six, and what a nice way to start off
this road trip sweeping the Saint Louis Cardinals. But I
gotta give credit to one man who we happened to
meet earlier in July, Ben Rice. And if you didn't
hear his postgame comments yesterday after only his three run homer,
but also his seven RBIs against the Cardinals, which I
(00:28):
think really keyed up this whole series. Here's what Ben Arrows,
as he's affectionally called, told the media yesterday.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
I hit her like Caballero and then Trent doing what
they do tonight. How much momentum does that give you
in the batter's box? It's great.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I mean, just get guys on base getting traffic. You know,
pitchers are going to be more willing to throw their
stuff over the plate, So that's credit.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
To those guys.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
What was Grisham saying to you when they were making
the pincheon change, He was just saying that, you know,
it's a little sneak that just to be ready for
that slide step with the delivery so definitely helped.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
You.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Was saying that in spring training you were killing the
bone and ebe that you got you were gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Help this year. Are you exceeding your expectations or did.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
You think you were capable of then this season?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
How do you in the season at all?
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yeah, I mean I wouldn't say I had really said
any expectations for myself. So I just kind of wanted
to approach you know, approach it one day at a
time and just try to go out there and have
good at bats, you know, try to find multiple ways
in the lineup like I have been, and just let
it take care of himself.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I spent a lot of times where you hit involved
right right at guy's hard like a nighlight tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Is that kind of freeing a little bit there to
find home for you?
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It's good, still still makes one into the end there,
but it was, uh it's good.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I mean just you know, have some hard contact get rewarded.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
So uh yeah, that's good. You know, like this, you
have the guys in the bench, you able to be
digged up a little bit. Elms that for you all
offensive William, what's the satisfaction in cashing him as a
whipping golden Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:05):
I think I mean on a night like tonight, in
any night, when we got guys who are down that
we normally have a lineup, it speaks to how deep
we are. We got so many guys up and down
the lineup roof for our everyday guys or not that
can contribute in different ways. So we got a very
we got a really good lineup.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
All right. He went on for another minute or so,
but I just realized Ben Rice with that homer yesterday
eighteen on the year. Pretty impressive. But more interestingly, that
seven RBI game his second career time he's done that,
which is second most in Yankees history. Gereg has nine,
so not since lou Gereg and Ben Rice has many
(02:45):
had what two career games or more with seven plus
rbi is very impressive for the kid who came up
last year hit that three run, a three home run game,
crowds going wild from and as they say, Rice is
cooking and the Yanks are cooking this entire weekend. And
Volpi did get the day off today, and that inspire
(03:07):
me to mention if you follow my new Yankees Instagram
in collaboration with Baseball Now, you'll find that in collaboration
with Baseball Now, this new page, Yankees dot now Underscore.
I'm going to start doing the Garrett graphic, which is,
if the Yanks are in a position to sweep or
(03:28):
take a series, you'll know the lineup that night, because
I think it's an important lineup to figure out, hey,
can they get the series? Can they get the sweep
like they did in Saint Louis. So look out for
the Garrett graphic, not only Alex g NYC one, but
my new instagram in collaboration with Baseball Now Yankees dot
now Underscore. So I was thinking about what to do
(03:51):
with episode fourteen oh one, Well might as well talk
about the Yanks, because it's a beautiful day for the
Yanks day right now are in solid third place. But
do we all know this, We all know they want
to do more than just the wild card. And that's
what Brian Cashman reidatory yesterday, reiterated yesterday to sus A woman.
(04:12):
They won't. They have their eyes set on the division.
And I've said this before. I think they can get
the division if they fight hard enough. They're right now
six and a half out of the division and they
are in the solid third in the wildcard, but only
half a game behind Boston. So things are flowing. Things
are as I said, cooking, and I think now as
(04:35):
they hit Tampa, who's been struggling a bit, it's a
good time to face these teams. I mean, look, the
Twins after their dreadful series last weekend was just what
this team needed. Now. The Cardinals, who they struggle with
against Saint Louis a couple of years ago, also a
team they needed to face.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Now.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
You gotta take the momentum and beat up on your
divisional opponents like the Rays, and of course you come
back next week face the Red Sox. So there's just
a lot going on. Baseball's been fluid and fluctuating all
season long. I mean one week it's what the Mets
up in. The best team now the Brewers, who have
(05:16):
won fourteen in a row, by the way, and I
gotta check on what they did today. They lost, so
their fourteen game win streak was snapped today by the Reds.
But yeah, fourteen game win streak by the Brewers. Very
fluid season for a lot of teams, and Yanks just
were in this weird fluctuation since June thirteenth. But maybe,
(05:40):
just maybe they're climbing out of it, And as I
said at the deadline, there's still time to get the division.
And even though we're at game one twenty five tomorrow
or next time they play, there's still a lot of
time for the division. So don't just settle for the
wild card Yankee fans, there's a lot more to go,
So a lot more baseball, a lot more Yankees now
(06:03):
posts to come, and I hope you join us along
the way. As we're here in just a couple of weeks.
It's football college football, NFL preseason. Yesterday, Jackson Dart looking great,
the Giants powering the jet overpowering the Jets. I mean,
we're here. It's almost full. You could smell it, you
could feel it. And the Yanks getting hot right now
(06:24):
is a good sign. And let's keep the good vibes
going as I look to have one leg up again
in this wild card race and in the divisional race
as well. But congrats to Ben Rice on a great game.
And he was my lead guy on the Garrett graphic
we'll see I put on for the next game. I
do because obviously it's based on the guy's performance every
(06:48):
night and sort of my stamp of approval. Hey, If
you made the Garrett graphic, you're doing pretty damn good
for the Yanks. We'll keep you posts on that as
the Yanks now hit Tampa and George steibern er Field,
their spring training home for what two games, and then
back here for Boston next weekend. Should be a lot
of fun against the ale East. I'm Alex Garrett. We'll
(07:12):
have some One Leg Up on News tomorrow as there's
something I do want to get to, but it's too
heavy for episode fourteen oh one, so we'll leave that
for another episode for Monday. My News we recap on Monday.
Stay tuned on the One Leg Up Network.
