Speaker 1 (00:00):
So don't you well, to be quite frank with you, today,
I am a little worried. Okay, And look, I love
Swedish house Mafia. I love a lot of their music.
But to do a concert on September eleventh, I'm still
gonna stick to this makes no sense. It should be
(00:21):
a sacred day. And I know there are people that
are going to go. I know that they're giving a
dollar per every ticket bought to you know, nine to
eleven foundations and whatnot and other rescue efforts. But it
just it's twenty four years the September eleventh. I can't
believe it's that long, to be honest, And it just
always feels like a hollowday that should not have a
(00:43):
lot of celebration or music or concert. And maybe it
was a somber concert, i'd understand. But these guys, do
you know that they do electronic they do house music.
I don't know. It's just not my scene. And I've
been debating whether to see them at Brooklyn Bridge Park
night on September twelfth, because yes, I do a plug.
(01:04):
They're giving the money to families or first responders. That
is the point of remembering nine to eleven is to
do that to betefit the first responders families. But but
they could have done it on the twelfth and thirteenth,
So I don't know. We'll have to see. If here's
(01:25):
my question, Alex at ALEXJNWYSCY dot com. Would I be
a hypocrite if I went the next night after criticizing
them for doing the show on September eleventh, Alex at
alex GNYC dot com. You can shoot me an email there.
But this also relates to my next story today here
on the One leg Up Network State Farm. This is
according to the National Volunteer Fire Council, State Farm is
(01:49):
giving the New York Fire Department ten thousand dollars. That's right,
a ten thousand dollars grant from State Farm the Good
Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program. They are one of one hundred
and fifty volunteer fire departments throughout then throughout the Good
Neighbor Firefighters Safety Program. And I'm very excited that these
(02:15):
various fire departments across New York will be supported like this.
The announcement was made on August eighteenth, a date many
celebrate as Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day and Volunteer firefighters make
up sixty five percent of the US Fire Service, and
believe me, on nine to eleven alone, Look how many
(02:36):
firefighters lost their lives. Look how many volunteer in addition
to the FDNY stormed in. I mean you can go
to O'Hara's, I said this last time. You can go
to O'Hara's. Patches upon patches upon patches of fire departments
across the nation coming to the aid of the FDNY
refcue US rescue efforts. These this grant is targeting many
(03:00):
small town and rural fire departments operating with limited budgets,
making it difficult to meet the rising costs of the
equipment and gear they need to best serve their community.
These grands are a lifeline for local departments to obtain
equipment that will increase safety, efficiency and effectiveness. In New York,
here's where they're going to be fulfilling the needs of
(03:24):
the different fire departments Aimes Volunteer Fire Department, Barneveld Fire Department,
East Palmyra Fire Department, Maple Springs Fire Department, Auto Fire Department,
Willett Fire Department, and Spring Lake Fire Department in Kingston
shouted to Andy Gladding up there as well as Slottsburg
Fire Department joining and they will also join ten of
(03:46):
the fire department recipients at a community event later this fall,
which may include an open house, fire prevention event, parade,
or other local gathering will ENVFC chair Steve Hurst said,
the NFC is proud to team up with State Farm
to continue the Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety program and provide
(04:07):
critical assistance to volunteer fire departments. And let me tell you,
these fire departments not just look for that cat stuck
up in the tree. They go and fight the fires.
They go into the blaze for their communities on a
volunteer basis. So to get that support must feel like
(04:28):
the you know, the way the world's being lifted here
and they're going to be able to do the job.
And we should be thinking our first responders, whether it
is FDN LIE, whether it is you know, suburban or
rural or small town fire departments, they all should be supported.
And so I want to thank State Farm on behalf
(04:48):
of a city that saw how important fire fighters were
to the rescue efforts time and time again, especially around
September eleventh. Thank you for honoring firefighters in this way.
And may God bless those that go into the blaze.
And I know this past weekend they just had the
(05:10):
Battle of the Badges at City Field FDN Wyvers YPD,
and that's always fun. I love when those when both
departments get to scrimmage on the ice on the field,
it's pretty awesome and it just goes to show how
tight knit these firefighters communities are. And just like that
(05:32):
Battle of the Badges where proceeds go to the departments.
So I want to thank State Farm and the NVFC
for this partnership and for supporting volunteer fire departments across
the country. Here on the Wale, the GUP Network
