Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here's your host, Alex Garrett. I just want it on
record before I get into the day of today that
for the first time since this podcast started as a
radio show at Queen's College, which was two thousand and nine,
I can say the Yankees have beaten the Red Sox
in the postseason. I didn't get to do that in

(00:22):
twenty eighteen or twenty twenty one, and there weren't many
other times at the Queen's College era. But today on
Onely Up Alex Sports, I can say it that the
Yankees beat the Red Sox. Was it personal? Hell? Yet,
it's personal, and you can read about it at my
blog One Look Up Alex how I thought I was

(00:42):
responsible for losing the World Series and the aos as
in two thousand four because I didn't turn off my TV. Hell, yes,
it's personal, because I went on Regis philp in the
last time the Yankees won against the Red Sox in
the postseason. After boons Homer and I get to tell
the tale of twenty twenty five and say I've survived
and lived twenty two years more to see the day.

(01:05):
This is a generational moment for Little Alex and Big Alex,
and I just want to say someone that did not
get his flowers yet. Beyond the incredible start of Cam Slitler,
the record breaking start of Kam Slitler, the rookie who
just started Opening Day for summrset earlier this season was

(01:26):
arguably the call of the year. But come on, where
are the flowers for Ahmed Rosario, the most unlikely guy.
No offense on it, but it was unlikely for him
to come up in that situation and do a basic
inter left field to start the scoring of that forerun inning.

(01:46):
Where are his flowers today? Because he deserves a hell
of a lot of credit for battling it out in
that a bet and then forgetting that single through the
hole on the left side. This next series has me nervous,
But I think last night there was a hope for
the years to come. I mean, can you imagine Cole

(02:12):
Schlittler rot Don Freed, not in that order, but that
rotation alone. Heal, it's gonna be a start starting rotation
in twenty twenty six. However, there is this feeling of
unfinished business here in the postseason. Now that we got
overcame Boston for the first time in twenty two years.

(02:35):
There's unfinished business. And we're gonna cover that unfinished business
here on one leg a Ballex Sports with insights, with friends,
with fans, and maybe even some journalists along the way.
As now, the Yankees have had karmic relief. Love you
An Shelley, miss you, love my Dad. This is the
first time since in twenty two years when my dad

(02:58):
was here when we went to re He's just been
filled with my mom and twenty two years ago. I
know he's not here to see it physically, but I
feel like he's up in the heavens watching down on
all of this, including the Cobs winning their first postseason
series in quite a while, in first one since my
dad passed. So there's a lot of emotions for me,

(03:20):
and I want to put it out there because I
feel like I'm wearing on my sleeve off the air,
but on the air, I'm fired up. And I can say,
for the first time since my exis inception of this
podcast when it was the Sports Hour, the Yankees have
beaten the Red Sox. The rivalry fields renewed now and
I want to face them on a hell of a
lot more in the postseason and beat them again. And

(03:44):
it also leaves us wondering what's next, because like Boston
went Toronto, we didn't have their number either all year.
In fact, there were five crucial losses against the Blue
Jays that I could say cost us the division. Yet
here we are hating the divisional round against Toronto to
exact that revenge next, Can we do it? I'm a

(04:07):
little nervous, but I think we're riding high, and I
think the fact that we play Saturday and the momentum
is carrying us gives me hope that we can have
one leg up in this postseason, even further than a
historic snapping of a twenty two year drought against the
Red Sox and a historic rookie performance twelve strikeouts, breaking

(04:33):
the rookie record for postseason strikeouts. He is the slit
and he has been the slit. And if you look
at his totals from his regular season in postseason, ninety
two strikeouts, ninety two strikeouts, first rookie year, and he
even come up to begin the season. That's what makes

(04:55):
us more special. And now I think the rosters getting
a little bit in this festive five, three out of five,
so we'll see who they call up. But I think
one thing that Boone learned the series. Trust your pictures
like you did with Roddan and and Cam last night,
Cam went eight, Rodin going six or seven. And also

(05:20):
trust that lineup against lefty or alrighty. That Tran Grisham
lead lineup is the lineup to go with. I don't
care who's on the mound for the uh, you know,
for the opponent righty versus lefty. I don't care about that.
Just get us w's. Just put Ben Rice in there,
just put Jazz chishm in there. Let fing go. It's

(05:46):
hard to celebrate entirely this wild card round because it's
only the wild Card series, but it's sentimental. It means
a lot. I've taken it personally, and I can feel
like that twelve year old that was to watch the
Red Sox O four and forced to watch the laboratories
his fly ball left fall short in twenty eighteen. Healed today,

(06:11):
and I think the Yanks can go about their business
as they've just had karmic relief. And it's only the
beginning of October. Let's extend this a little further into October. Kevin,
Let's have one leg up on this postseason for the
Yankees twenty five roster, who I've said since May looks

(06:33):
like two thousand and nine. I have felt it. They're gutty,
they're gutsy there they've had their tough times too, but
they've overcome that. And now they can head into Toronto
with some momentum and maybe I'll take a split in
Toronto and two here. However, it's gotta get done. I

(06:56):
feel it. And if we can overcome Toronto, whoh, the
possibilities become even more endless, don't they. So come on, Yanks,
come on, boone, trust your gut, trust your instinct. Let's
do this. Let's get one leg up even more in
post season twenty twenty five h
