Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, here on one leg a Baalox Sports, I
just want to issue a quick prayer and thoughts for
Mark Sanchez, who, at twelve thirty in the morning, according
to APC Football on Instagram, was involved in a stabbing
in downtown Indianapolis. Mark the US he stand out, of course,
former Jets, was supposed to call the Colts Raiders game

(00:24):
tomorrow but got senselessly stabbed. Updated Fox Sports reports saying
Fox Sports saying he's in stable condition, which is in
elevation from critical, but that the thoughts and prayers are
with Mark and his family and that the privacy of
the family be respected at this time. This is horrible.
He's in town to do a game for Fox and

(00:47):
he gets stabbed. Thank God he's in stable condition now,
but this is horrific and senseless and shocking above all. Now,
I want to share also, Nathan, I'm Torondra and our
media's link with Mark. He interviewed him not too long ago,
and I want to share that in the description below
here on one like at Balox Sports. But again, prayers

(01:09):
to the Sanchez family to Mark. No one deserves to
get stabbed anywhere, at any time, and we just got
to pray for him during this time. Now I want
to get to my interview with Julian Giularte, who's actually
covering the Tigers MARINERDS series after covering the Guardians Tigers,
and we record this yesterday and I want to release

(01:29):
it ahead of the Yanks and Jays and of course
the Tigers Maritors.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I mentioned on the one like a Ballex Sports feature
that I was going to have some great journalists, some
great guests, and one of my friends is on the
line right now and journalist mister Julian Giuliarte. Hey, Julian,
welcome back to the show.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Alex has been a while.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Thank you. I appreciate you. I tried to sneak this in.
I'm a busy travel schedule, but I too appreciate you.
Thank you me And even if I don't the answers
sometimes and like you guys are talking to chat, I
kind of see what's going on.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
That's just like a lot of different things.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
But happy to see the thing with your podcasts and
you're getting Bob was pretty sick the other day.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
I shouldn't watch that. You'll get better, but I'm just
like busy.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Oh it was a special night, but tell me how
you ended up covering the Cleveland and Guardians and the
Tigers series.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Bro, I still call them the Indians too, and LIT
even feel bad about it, Like I did it a
couple of times in Cleveland to not in the box,
but like when I was in the citium, like it's
totally Indians to me, not going to that whole political round,
but like we grew up with them as the Indians.
To me, it's always Indians, but they are the Guardians now,
for better or worse. But I would say, wait, I

(02:46):
think the reason I did Guardians was because Yankees kind
of got booked up and now you wanted to do
a series. Now was the best one. The Tigers connection
actually has nothing to do with the Guards. It's just
happened to work out that way because like when you
get to the passes, you go through the home team.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
It doesn't matter what the road team does.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
So like I did cover the Tigers in Detroit, and
I did cover them Yankee Stadium, but the Yankee credit
was the Yankees and how you saw the series, and
then I did go down to Miami, but I then
meet media when they played the Marlins.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
So that's kind.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Of what I'm looking at now how I got started
with the Tigers, and I think he wants to know
that too, so I'll help you out here. Is that
my company just kind of applied they you want to
do Tigers. I'm like, yeh sure, and then we got
accepted and we just went and then we went to Pittsburgh.
We watched Paul Skeins pitch, and then I got back

(03:41):
home and stuff like. And it's a cool moment because
I went on that little road trip like twenty years
ago in two thousand and seven. It was Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit,
and now I ended up working all of them like
in a month time, So that was kind of wild
to me.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Absolutely well, it's cool, and tell us the company, because
I mean, I need a little refresher to tell.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
Us what.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Okay, completely valid, completely fair. I've struggled the deck a
couple of times. But World Baseball networkers who sent me
out for Detroit and Pittsburgh, and that's the one I
do a lot of my work with, like the articles
and like game coverage, and then Latino Sports have been
with for a while. Both those companies actually had been
with for a while, but I was doing other stuff

(04:23):
that I'm not doing anymore, so it's really just them
and then like some personal stuff for fun here and there.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
All right, Julie, I gotta ask you this.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
I won't get to that interview how with Jonah Tong
because I want to know how you got that. But
I want to get to the series because, yeah, the
Guardians coming on this momentum, they seem to be America's
darling right now.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Then they lose two out of three.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
I mean, I guess it's the beauty of the three
game series, but how did they lose their steam? And
how did to Droid gain their scene this series?

Speaker 2 (04:50):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
I honestly, it was definitely something that was a little
bit up in the air for me coming into this series.
Like my heart was saying Tigers will win it, and
I was ruling for them to win it because like
I wanted to go here to Detroit and I wasn't
gonna go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
That's to size the point.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
I think my head said there was a slight Tigers lean,
but not a high one have to have the Guardians
had done. I just thought of the overall talent went
out eventually, but the Tigers just have a better team
than the Guardians. The Tigers were playing terrible baseball, no fundamentals,
no timely finishing, no timely hitting, swinging for defenses, empty
at bats. And the Guardians they played that pesky ball.

(05:29):
They call it guards ball. They don't hit the ball
of the infield. They score runs somehow. They scored four
runs on schooball out hitting the ball in the infield
in his last two starts against them.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
So you know how much I'm frustrated him.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
And I thought the Guardians were gonna take it at
the point in time, because you gotta remember there was
a situation in Game one that they had Jose Ramiroz
on third base with no outs and they blew it.
They could have easily won that, and then they would
have won the two games.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Yeah, well it's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Now.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Have you gotten doctor Tark I think that's the number
one question happened?

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Yeah, I have spoken to him. I have a clip
with him online at Yankee Stadium too. I got him
at the presser. He's a cool, too humble guy, but
he doesn't really read into himself too much. He's not
like the guy that gets caught up in like his starts.
He always said, I don't look at them that much.
He's like, I move on good or bad. He's like,
I get caught up in it. And then like he's

(06:24):
such a build competitor, fierce competitor, and the guy just
wants to win. He's really good at what he does. Obviously,
I think he's a cool dude. He's been a really
great picture. Obviously. I feel like the Tigers found the
momentum when Dangler hit that home and that was the
turning point. I feel like they needed that big and
he finally got it. And then once he got it,
the floodgates finally opened for the team. Like they all

(06:46):
figured it out the next inning, and Dingler was the
guy I thought could do damage because he was kind
of he was hit with, but like he had to
go that back to end the game together before went
so Perez was hit with and he gets the biggest
hit of the series. Effective because once they go for
one the way the Guardians offenses, you kind of think
that game's over, like to the one the Guardians can
come back from, but once you have to chase three

(07:08):
with that offense, like you're not feeling too good about that.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I mean, look, the Guardians have Stephens Kwan and of
course Jay Ram Ramirez. And yet the Tigers got through him,
which is I mean they only limited to a couple
of runs over the series.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Right, Well, here's how it went. The first game was
two to one Tigers. Who was a battle.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
It was a grind schoolbal pitch, a generational game. The
most strikeouts of his life for fourteen he was unedable.
I remember seeing him pitching that well. And now I've
got the privilege of watching him. I think it's my
third time or second now might be. I thought as well,
I didn't see him against the Mets. Unfortunately, I saw
him pitcher and playing and they got hurt. But this

(07:49):
is the third or fourth time I've seen him. This
is the best I've ever seen. Well, he was throwing
one hundred and one miles an hour, like everything was working.
The Guardians had no chance against him. They only scored
because of like in the old hits in the bunts,
I think, or something like. It wasn't even like a
clean run, per to say, it was fluky. It was
guard's ball, like what they do, like they're in field
ding like you know, but like he's so good man,

(08:10):
like he's a legit. He's I think he's the best
pitcher in the league still, and the Skis has a
claim to it. I think Schooble is a little bit
better in Crochet because he's a little more efficient. I
know school ball, I mean, I know Crochet gets more
strike outs, but school has a lower ra while we're
webbed like and a bunch of on a few other
things too. I think he should win the side young again.
And so it was six one. Guardians kind of broke

(08:32):
out in the game two, the six to one. Paul
Melton had a bad time out there. Now he's starting
tomorrow opening more than starting. But and then because Rochio
hit a bomb and you have Valaria hit one, and
there was one other one that's escaping me right now.
I have to look it up. I guess, but it's
for Okio Valeria. I said, we'll do it. And then

(08:53):
there was the Guardians. I got, I'll check, but and
then I guess the right of Tigers win six the three,
so like they kind of even too up.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Yeah, there was a low scoring series. It was a
throwback series.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
It was a lot of pitching, a lot of defense,
a lot of strategizing, bunting like the Tigers bunted in
Game two, and that's actually how they got their sacking run.
So the Tigers played guards ball in game one and
they won it. So they did adapt and that's important. Obviously.
I have to say, like I really am, I'm impressed
with their forty two because the Guardians embarrassed them.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
They took their division lead.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
They had won six of eight against them, so I
was thinking that it might be a done deal, that
they might just be in their heads, But the Tigers
woke up, and then once they did, they reminded everybody
why they were the best team in the American League
for the most of the year.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Look, they had that what fourteen game lead I mean
and then doing an on seven.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
It was a dramatic.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah, they had fifteen and a half.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
But then they come back and do this.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Now can they face can they beat Rally?

Speaker 4 (09:55):
And the Mariners will have to see.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
But I want to ask you about a couple other
guys before we move on to that. The Yankees series,
and of course the alds Labor. What's it like reconnecting
with him.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I haven't got to speak to him yet.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Unfortunately, I tried a couple of times and never been
able to line it up. If I get the chance
to cover game three, which I should have minimum, that
should be the worst case scenario. At least get one game,
then I will try to talk with him. I wanted
to see him do more. He didn't have the best series.
I know the first step bad of to day he
winds out hard to outfields or I think or something,

(10:31):
but he didn't really do much after that.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Again, we have one or two hits in.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
The series, but we know how Glaber can play well
in October.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
I think Taurres.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
Had a great October.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yees this year hasn't been the best room yet. I
would say, why the hell is this going back in time?

Speaker 2 (10:50):
This is so stupid.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
But anyway, so I would say, like, honestly speaking, I
think that he'll he'll be fine. I'm not gonna say
he's like don't or anything. He's gonna j A actually
moved him up to lead off. I think it helped
because he put Medals at the bottom. The Metals did
well and Labor had a good first step back, but
he got out. I think Taurres is like a good stableisever.
It's kind of cool to see him out there doing

(11:11):
this thing. You know how he's buy it's hanging in
playing well here and there. I think that he's pretty
good on the Tiger is a one year deal. It
seems like he likes over there. I'm sure he might return.
Maybe he's got a good winning environment there too. Can
they beat the Mariners? Is gonna be a tall order.
I'm entirely sure about that yet, but I know we'll
get to that soon. So I would say, like I'm

(11:38):
looking at certain stuff, like why is this not doing this?
I want I'm so irritated right now. Hold on, But yeah, bro,
I mean I think that Gliber's in a decent spot.
AJ has hate faith in him. Still, he's been good
in the playoffs before. I was gonna say he's hit
well against the Mariners. Correct me if I'm wrong, right,
I feel like he's had success against the Manners.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Oh yeah, well he'll he'll he'll heat up here.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Now.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Another guy I want to ask you about is Hobby Baias,
who's really seemed to have found a rejuvenation this year.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah, it's been interesting to see Hobby. You have a
few hits.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
He he's still swinging out of his shoes a certain pitches.
So when bow Nailor was the other home or whatever?
We go on the why this game? I should have
known that bow Nailor, so that was the third one
that day. So they kind of just jumped They kind
of just jumped out and that was that. That was
how they won.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
So all right, so you're on the road and then
you watch someone I'm sure you covered at Somerset. Cam
Schlittler made his postseason debut, and what a night he had.
But tell us about the kids that you knew from
Somerset that became the call up of the year.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
I could tell you even further than that. We can
go before Somerset if you want. And the thing that's
crazy about Summerset is Dylan Dangler was playing against Summer
said when I was covering them, and I don't know
if you heard, but I asked him a question about
that and someone said they don't know the ESPN. I
was like, oh okay, Like apparently they were playing the
restaurant on the ESPN. I was like, oh wow, and
someone recognized me. I was like, oh share. So dang

(13:06):
were played against Patriots an eerie he was what he
played against him in twenty two and twenty three I
remember him, and he stood out to me back then
because I thought he was a pretty good catcher. He
had a few bombs off them and I said as
much to him, and we spoke about that, and I'm like, Cam,
I go back with him before summer. Say, do you
remember twenty twenty three when Hudson Valley was in the playoffs?

Speaker 1 (13:30):
You know, I haven't really followed Hudson Valley until this year, really,
so tell us about that.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Okay, So here's the story with husin Valley in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
So I covered them. This was actually might even be now.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
I gotta think, cause like twenty twenty four, they didn't
make the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
I don't think it's a fuck now.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
I gotta think because Cam, I saw him pitch in
the playoffs in Hudson Valley. That's where I'm going with
this story, and that's where I first saw man. The
evolution of what I saw then to what I saw
him now is the moral of the story here.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
So in twenty four, yes, I was right. Two years
ago in the playoffs, I watched him pitch in Hudson Valley.
He was thrown in the low nineties. Okay, I kid
you not he was thrown in the low nineties, ninety
to ninety two, maybe he'd be ninety three and a
good day. I didn't think he was gonna be anything

(14:31):
like this. I'm gonna take full discretion here. I'm not
gonna say, oh, I knew it, because I did not.
And I thought his breaking stuff was pretty good from
what I remember, Like, I gotta try to go back
in time and find that start. I'm really curious to
see how he pitched, because that's the first time I
saw him. But he gains like ten miles now on
his fastball in like two years somehow, I don't know how,

(14:52):
like even less Like that's what's crazy to me, Like,
and I just did not expect this from him at
all last year kind of or to see signs when
he was coming onto the scene with Somerset this year.
We saw signs pretty much the whole year, So I
mean it was a crazy situation.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Well day when he got called up. Remember how electric
he was that first start. And by the way, if
people are keeping count, I believe he's got ninety two
strikeouts now between the regular season and and the postseason
twelve postseason game, but ninety two strikeouts overall, Julian, that's
pretty impressive for a rookie who just got a few
stars under his belt.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
I just can't believe how good he is. I'm gonna
be honest with you, Garrett Cole. They call him Baby Cole.
I think he's earned that nickname a little bit. I
think it's been a fun year for him. And now
I think, like I said before this, I thought he
earned the opportunity to become a third starter.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
I think it was the right decision. I really do.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
I think he's been better than he always been better
than Warren. So you will get that and then you
are set. So I gotta see this. I'm gonna go
back in time. I'm going to find this skateing that.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I gotta ask someone who I felt has not got
his proper flowers all day long, mister Ahmed Roseiro. I mean,
my goodness, what a what a base hit to break
the thing open last night.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
I feel like a raided almost.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
I think it's just because he didn't play well against
Cliche and then there was a big bull up with
the Jazz decision. But like Rosario has a role on
this team, especially against lefties, it's very good still, so
I think he's definitely a good spot.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Like I really really do.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
I want to get to the lineup because Boone decides
throughout the Paul Goldsmith lineup. But look, I think, right
you're lefty, the Trent Grisham lineup is the way to
go every night during this postseason.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Wouldn't you agree?

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yeah, I mean that's what you would think. That's probably
the way to do it. I mean, but I do
want Rosario playing though against lefties is the big man
because the man can't really hit lefties that well, that's
the only switch I probably make. I'm very happy. I mean,
you will agree with me. You're gonna laugh at this.
I would have blew a gasket if Slayter was on
the roster. If Slater has been a complete mistake, complete boss,

(17:19):
like no good, like he can't They got in here
to do lefties and he can't even do that, Like
he's It's like, I do not want him on the roster.
So I'm happy didn't putting them on it because then
what they used him if he was on it, And
we can't risk using Slayter in the playoffs right now,
So I'm happy he was off it.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
And then like everything else kind of standard.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
I guess you could do Wells catching Rice at first,
And the only issue is he do you want Goldie's
defense at first in certain situations?

Speaker 2 (17:45):
I think, and Wells has been good.

Speaker 3 (17:49):
He had that big hit the Jazz scoring on, so
I think that, like you want to try to make
it as few tweaks as possible to kind of agree
with you there.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
So all right, how about Ben Rice? Now, this is
a guy that I'm sure you've covered over the years,
but want to breakout postseason performance this week.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
I mean, you look at the bomb against Bail that
was an obvious one after he was benched, and then
you look at the situation like with with like how
he was benched and how he responded, like he really
responds to all of that, And so he came in
into this work and now the last two nights been

(18:30):
really good. I don't think he's gonna say much again
in October. I really think he's in a good spot
now and he's he's a guy that me.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
The only issue with me is like his defense.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
Leaves a lot to be desired at both spots he
put in, so like I'd like to see him be
more of like a DH maybe, but the problem is
you're staying there, so he's gonna have to play the
field for the time being. So uh yeah, that's like
cow I would handle that, I guess. But it's very
very interesting, Like how that is?

Speaker 4 (19:02):
All right?

Speaker 1 (19:03):
I want to get to the Alds because obviously you're
gonna be looking at the Tiger series. But let's get
to the Jay the Yanks Jays. It looks like it's
gonna be Freed ro Don or is it Heel gonna
be game one? Because Free just pitched.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
A few days ago. What does the rotation looking like, Julie.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
I mean, I'm sorry, wow, my head's they announced that.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Yeah, I'm here, I can actually come on.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Hello, I got you, Julian, Alex Hello, Yeah, I got you, Julian.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Okay, yeah, so they announced, Okay, they announced that Heel
is game one.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
It would make so much sense.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
So yeah, but Heel and then back to Freed and
ro Don and then I'm guessing Schlitzler again, you know,
on on if.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
There's a game four.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
I do see the series splitting up in Toronto, don't you.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Most likely Here's how I think things might go. I
kind of predicted how this last series would go. I said,
Yankees will lose Game one, but they'll win two and three,
and that's kind of what happened. So yeah, I mean
that's so I'm gonna say something similar here. I think
the Yankees lose Game one, but they still come back,

(20:23):
they win Game two, and then I think they go
like four or five, probably more towards five for the
Chets not playing.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Maybe it's four.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Because I don't make a difference, and it looks like
they're leaning towards not using him yet or I heard
he might be available game three but on the roster,
but non use for Game one or two.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
So that's that's definitely a possibility, all right.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
And then your series, and then I want to ask
about Jonah Tone. But your series Detroit vers Seattle.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
I feel like the.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Mariners don't have a lot around cal rally, but they
have the arms. Can the arms shut down this Tiger offense?

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Yeah, that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Like I think the Mariners already advantage here because they're
pitching staff as better as a whole. I know the
Tigers have Tarik, but you will get Kirby, You'll get
loll if he's healthy, which I think he's supposed to
be in Game three ish. Then you take a look
at the other Mick Gilbert, who's very good. Luis Castillo
as the four, it's pretty solid. Even though he's tough,

(21:27):
clinton diminishing, he still has that ability.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
And I think the Mariners.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
Lot Bats are in a better spot too, because he
will get Suarez, you will get Nail or Julio's hot
now he's been having the great second half.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
And then Ramsey Rose Arena.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
We know playoff Ramsey, even JP Crawford Orri Polankle the Mariners,
I think we might win the series in four games.
I think it might be the end for the Tigers
Schoobo because definitely still in at least one, there's no
question about that, But how much more than that, I'm
not really sure. Could Flaherty steal the game four. That's
gonna be my key to the series, because if Flaherty

(22:05):
can steal the Game four, then they're gonna have a chance.
So that's how I'm kind of looking at that situation.
And I want to like, this is different than what
I thought. This is like, Okay, now I finally found
it after all this time, I think, But yeah, no,

(22:27):
so I do think it's gonna be a situation where.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Where like yeah, where that happens.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
We'll have to see and then I want to get
to real fast. The uh the Jonah Toong interviewed.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
That was so cool. I mean you get to see
him before.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
You you've been on the field, a bo cityfield and
yanky team. I gotta give you credit for being all
over the place, mainly to the field.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
Uh what's that experience?

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Yeah, it's been fun. Man like look forward.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
So I don't take you for granted to trying to
odd to like it's like you try to go there
and get them. Joe and I met the Somerset because
like he didn't meday when it was Binghamton and Patriots.
So that's what happened there. And oh now I remember
this game. Yep, it was that they lost to nothing.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Okay, I actually saw can get the win. He was
not dead. Now I finally found it. But Joonah the
Tongs awesome. I love. He's a great dude.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
I know he and the year well, but I think
like he's going to be fine. He needs to just
to find some stuff. He's very into pitching. He seems
like a pitching nerve, which is cool and I also
think that he he has a lot of ability for
the young age of twenty two. He has a cool background.
Took him from Canada and stuff, so I think he's
in a good spot. He's a fun dude. Look, he
doesn't let anything get to him. I think he's gonna

(23:52):
be fine. So he remembered me when I pulled up
to Detroit, So that's how it came about. Basically, I
couldn't get him the first day, but then he said
he would do it the next day and we have
a decent repoort. I guess I had a good tik
talk with him and pull up. We got like thirty
five thousand views. Actually, if you check my name on
tik talk, you'll see it. I think you have seen it.

Speaker 1 (24:12):

Alex Network and One Leg Up Alex Sports. Now I
