Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, I really couldn't sleep here because on the West Coast,
I thought the three set thousand strikeouts from Clayton Kershaw
was going to be historic enough this season, only for
him too earlier this week, announced that he would be
retiring from the game. I believe he spent eighteen seasons
(00:22):
in And here's the incredible part about the career of
Clayton Kershaw. He not only won two World Series rings
through a no hitter and of course got three thousand strikeouts,
(00:48):
he overcame so much. I know I've talked about this before,
but it seemed like at times there was just injury
after injury that sidelined him and his greatness. But he
was able to adapt after every injury and come back stronger.
(01:10):
You know, I saw him stat muse tonight locally he
was eleven and oh against the Mets. Eleven and oh
against the New York Mets. That's pretty damn good. And
I love what he said to wrap up the press
(01:31):
conference tonight, trying to hold back all the emotions, and
you know, he's allowed to be emotional. This is a
big decision, but we all kind of knew, at least
I did that once he got the three thousand. That's
what he was hoping for, and then he would retire,
(01:52):
and that's what's happening. Of course, it's also fitting the
Dodgers are giving him one more chance with a playoff run.
They clinched a playof birth tonight and probably on the
way of the division again. But as I said in
my story tonight, a lot of baseball childhoods continue to
(02:18):
come to an end. He was there for a lot
of us while we were still in high school, through
the college years and into our twenties and thirties. Talk
about generational. That guy is generational. And I've been thinking
(02:43):
about this because I have a picture and you take
a look at Alex GNYC won in my Instagram, but
I have a picture with the Dodger retired numbers, and
I guess show a tay Oh Toddy will get there
one day. I mean, he's put a Ruthie and dubbers
fifty homers, fifty strikeouts in the year. He's at fifty
(03:05):
two homers by the way overall as he belt them
one tonight. But I don't know. I think Clayton is
the ultimate guy to get his number retired by the
Dodgers because Shoge just came into the Dodgers a couple
(03:27):
of years ago. Clayton's been a lifer, a lifer with
drafted by the Dodgers, start rookie season with the Dodgers,
all these accomplishments with one team Hall of Fame career
with the Dodgers. That's why I say he is the
more valuable candidate to be one of the last Dodgers
(03:50):
we may see in our lifetimes be retired in the
down the left field leftfield line. But now I'm in
fired to go back when they do, put up in
Clayton Kershaw and get a picture and recreate it as
he would join the likes of Coofax and Robinson and
(04:12):
Garvey and I'm sure and you know a lot of
the the original Brooklyn Dodgers as well. I mean, he
is part of the lineage of this Dodger team. There's
no doubt about it. So I couldn't sleep because I
(04:35):
wanted to cover this.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
And sure enough, my last thing is my favorite Bible verse.
It's whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,
as you're working for the Lord, not for men. It's
cautions and that's what I've tried to do. Just work
at it. Just work at it and love it. And
so I'm really not sad. I'm really not. I'm really
at peace with this. It's just emotional and I've tried
to hold it together. I told our guys not to
(04:58):
make it weird today, so because I was going to
get weird if you make it weird, and here I
am making it weird. So that's that's all I have.
And just thank you everybody here that's covered me over
the years. I know I'm not the most fun at times,
so just just thank you for putting up with me,
and that's all I have. Thank you guys so much
(05:19):
for being here.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Now you know you did something right in your career
when the whole media room is clapping for you, that
is members of the media clapping for Clayton Kerschew. I mean,
how cool is that? How cool is that? And by
the way, that was shared by Michael Beer b I
(05:50):
E R Michael you Beer, Sorry Michael J. Beer a
foul Territory TV and he posted that.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
From the media room, So there you have it. His
final Dodger Stadium starts in an illustrious career, Hall of
Fame career, and I've been thinking about this because ultimately
(06:25):
Vin Scully, if they were to name the field, should
be Vin Scullyfield.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
I don't think they've done that yet, but something's got
to go up there in the honor of Clayton Kershaw.
Maybe a Kershaw corner, you know near the Dodger bopen
we were to warm up before every start. How about
that a Kershaw corner to really cement the and show
(06:48):
generations after us what an amazing player and a great
person Clayton Kershaw has been for the game of baseball.
He never seemed to be a guy that was flashy
or in your face. After every strikeout, he would get
the strikeout and walk off the mound like it was
(07:09):
another day at the office. He never did this to
be a hot dog. He did this because he loved
the game for the love of the game. And it
showed tonight in those remarks, didn't it. He even talked
about how God using his talent for this Dodger community.
(07:37):
And I know over the years it had been heartbreak
at times, the early exits, the World Series losses, but
in the last five years they've won two and I
know they beat the Yanks last year, earned that World
(08:01):
Series and Kirshaw earned that ring, didn't he. So I
think today and this week he felt it was time.
And look, we played the audio of his kids running
in to see him after the three thousand strikeout. He
has little kids. He's going to be a dad too
(08:21):
now and watch them grow up, most likely in sports,
and raise them up to be, you know, great citizens
and whatnot. But I love guys like this. I love
when they're just put their head down, pitch hit. Even
(08:46):
catchers will just go there and do their job as if.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
It doesn't phase them, it doesn't get weird, as Clayton
was saying, So congratulations in Clayton Kershaw, and only tonight
and only your eighteen year career, and only your future
Hall of Fame selection.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
I know you're gonna get there, but congrats on doing
the game right every time out and the ability to
bounce back from those injuries has been a storyline because
you've adapted as well and wanted it, just like you
(09:34):
won two World Series rings with a team you've been
on your entire life. I know Dodger Town will not
be the same. Vin Scully Avenue will not be the same,
Dodger Stadium will not be the same, But it's because
(09:55):
of what you did the last eighteen years that has
built up that already historic franchise into a franchise. I
get sellouts, that gets postseason appearances, and that does at
least twice in the last five years, get you a
(10:17):
World Series. You've been a driving force in that. So congrats.
I'm making an impact. I'm being all around decent and yes,
godly and I would say spiritual in a way baseball player,
(10:39):
an ambassador to Major League Baseball. And so in honor
of Clayton Kersher retiring and having his last start, I
want to kick off my Fanatics creator position now there's
a new title in town by offering you a Clayton
(11:01):
Kershaw you know Jersey from my Fanatics affiliate link. It's
the only right way to do it because you have
the biggest story in baseball right now. And I'm gonna
stay in that trend and promote Clayton, just like I
(11:26):
promoted tcsabath The's Hall of Fame Jersey and Jersey. Gonna
do the same thing for Clayton. And if you do buy,
I am very fortunate that I do get commission, and
I'm very thankful to Wade and everybody that's supporting me
along the way to be a Fanatics creator that feels
(11:48):
like a next level beyond just an affiliate, a creator
for them now. And what's the first thing I want
to do. I want to create that link for you
and create a promo for Clayton Kershaw, who is the
(12:11):
man of the night. And I know again, I know,
Show Hey has someone he's done, but Clayton Kershaw right
now is the man of the year in Major League
Baseball because of what he's accomplished and been able to accomplish.
And if he gets a third World Series this year. Look,
they're in the playoffs and I think it happened, I
(12:32):
would say, continues to accomplish. So let me see how
October plays out. But I'm going to offer up a
promo for Clayton Kershaw and yet Dodgers Stadium make a
Kursehaw corner. I think that would be pretty neat. I
(12:55):
think that would be pretty neat. On one leg up
with Alex, Congratulations Clayton, and we'll be rooting for you
the rest of the way, because, man, you there's a
guy who deserves to go out with a ring. An
I am a Yankee fan saying this full disclosure, but
(13:16):
it would be you. It would be you. Can they
do it? I think d NL is very competitive and
the ALE is very competitive. But how interesting would it
be is if you had Clayton and then cow Rally,
(13:37):
who's been the man of the year on the American
League side, facing off in a World Series game. I
would buy. I would Well, we've got a long way
to go before that, so let's take a one game
at a time and right now honor Clayton with this
(13:58):
promotion from the Fanatics World as Fanatics Friday. It goes
into Fanatics Saturday, but Clayton Kershaw throwing his last pitch
on Finax Friday, September nineteenth, twenty twenty five,
