Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up everybody? Padres Hots Up group therapy kicking off Thursday,
August fourteenth, getting started four thirty on a lovely San
Diego afternoon. Craig Elston Rayfie canter here with dozens of
our patrons. It's our unofficial Padres Dodgers pep rally here
as the Padres go into Chavez Ravine. One game up

(00:26):
on Los Angeles, the talk of the town, talk of baseball,
going into a three game cent at Dodgers Stadium at
at this time yesterday when we were talking Rafie, you know,
the Padres had won, but the Dodgers hadn't played. And
then LA took a three to nothing lead in the

(00:47):
first inning and five to two after three with Otani
on the mound, and the Dodgers still found a way
to lose that game.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, I did something I pretty much never do when
I'm driving around Los Angeles, which is I turned on
AM five seventy, which is the Dodgers radio station, which
just a side note, AM radio is fucking terrible, Like
it is just an abomination to have to listen to it.
In the u of R Lord twenty twenty five, and

(01:18):
also the broadcast I found to be pretty boring. It
wasn't bad, It wasn't bad. It was just kind of boring.
And yet I'm sitting there glued and listening, like I'm
listening to Justin and Tony, because I was like living
and dying on every pitch for the length of that drive.
And it was very fun and weird to be watching

(01:42):
or rather listening to another team's games and be just
sort of unbated breath the whole time. But I'm frankly
astounded that the Dodgers were swept in the Freeway Series
this season. I'm also astounded to learn that the last
time that happened actually wasn't that long ago. Twenty nineteen

(02:03):
was the last time the Angel swept the Dodgers in
the Freeway Series. So here I am thinking this was
this unbelievably historic event, and turns out, you know, not
that much, not that much, but still enjoyable. Nonetheless, well.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Remarkable for us, let's just put it that way. Twenty nineteen,
it didn't matter what happened for the Padres and the Dodgers.
Welcome up to the stage, Chris read Chris, Welcome, sir.
We didn't think you're a pleasant surprise. Being here. We
were just talking all about you, hello, hermonos.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Yeah, a big day, first day of school up here
in LA. Lots of doctor's appointments upright, citizens, brigade stuff.
So I wasn't sure I would be able to find
any time. But I'm just up here for a short time,
not for a long time. Excuse me, your a good time,
not for a short time.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Goddamn it. Wait, it's gonna be a long good time,
a long long bad time, it sounds like.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
But yeah, I'll be bopping the air and in, but
I'll I'll mostly be on mute.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
But if I can jump in, I will love it.
It's great to have you here, my friend. Well, we
just talked about the amazingness of the Angels going six
to zero against La and putting San Diego in a
beautiful position. Now let's get to the news that broke
in the last half an hour, which is that the
Padres have placed Michael King on the injured list with

(03:31):
left knee inflammation. Apparently he woke up in his hotel
room and he slept on his knee wrong. This time
it's going on. Michael King King is dead. Did he
not get a sweet proviso in his contract, Like, what
do we need to do? Are we putting him at

(03:53):
the holiday inn while everyone else gets the sheraton, Like
what's going on? But regardless, Michael King again a non
arm injury. But uh, he was supposed to start tomorrow,
and in a corresponding move, the Padres called up Strandy Vasquez.
So what are we thinking about this particular situation.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Well, first of all, I don't believe at all that
this was a I slept on it weird because on
your oh okay, well I was making I completely bought
that you that that was something that Mike schel had said.
But uh, yeah, I am terrified about the idea of

(04:44):
Randy uh pitching against the Dodgers. I don't know if
that's what the team's plan is, but I feel like
at this point in the season, there's so much tape
on Randy that if there were any team that would
be able to pick him apart, it would be the Dodgers.
And I think nothing would be more demoralizing to LA

(05:08):
than to lose the first game and be down two
games in the series, already knowing that you cannot leave
that they the Padres can't leave LA lower than them
in the standings. So I don't know if there is
some sort of creative solution within our rotation that allows
us to pitch one of our other starters, but frankly

(05:32):
I would be quite interested in it.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
When Randy went down, he got one start in, he
went three innings, gave up five hits, three walks, and
five earned runs. Sweet, So this is obviously all that
was all just a faint. They're gonna have They're gonna

(05:55):
have Mookie and Freddie watching El Paso footage, you know,
latest and greatest and the Padres five D chess game.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Mastery continues anew. So what you could do is you
could pitch Dylan Ceas on four days rest. We could, No,
you could. In that case, you're going to start Randy Vasquez,
And uh, to me, what that really means is you're

(06:28):
going to start Randy Vasquez for a certain period of
time and then the bullpen is going a very very
rested bullpen is going to pitch on Friday and he's seasoned.
Darbish are going to try and pick up, you know,
some of the slack on the next two days. But uh,
you know, realistically, that's what you can do. They could

(06:50):
have called up JP sears. I would have been less
confident throwing JP sies at Dodger Stadium. Randy Vasquez at
least could dial up a playball, you know. I mean,
he's got one hundred and seven innings with fewer hits
than the innings pitched in the big leagues. Now, he's
walked forty eight and struck out fifty five. But you

(07:11):
know what, Randy Vasquez revenge start back from the miners,
looking to prove himself. I kind of feel all right
about it. For a regular The issue with Michael King
going down for me is entirely about what could Michael
King do in October or is he going to be

(07:34):
available and healthy in October if he's got some sort
of weird thing that cropped up with his knee. But
it hasn't been a thing prior to this, and it
could very well be an example of somebody who was
inactive for so long, ramping up too fast and you know,

(07:55):
just overdoing it and he needs to have something settled down,
like my elbow, Like you just do something too much,
you gotta settle it down. If he can come back
at the end of August and pitch through the month,
of September, he should be completely up to snuff by
the time playoffs roll around. But as JJ just put

(08:16):
in the chat, I'm gonna be perfectly honest with you two.
I was expecting Michael King to go like two plus
innings four runs tomorrow or three innings five runs tomorrow,
because that you don't like to do rehab starts at
Dodger Stadium against a cornered animal. But that's what Michael

(08:38):
King was going to be doing ostensibly tomorrow night. I
wasn't super confident, in other words, about what Michael King
was going to bring to the hill tomorrow night compared
to the next two cats that are coming out to
the mounds. So for me, the sub out of a
weekend King to Strandy is maybe a neutral move.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah, maybe even a blessing disguise. I mean, I think
that the nice part about Randy, I mean, the thing
that I've long said about this team is that it's
achilles heel is the deference it gives to veterans in
certain aspects of the game. And the nice part about
Randy is that the team is very clear on how
they like to use him. They let him face eighteen

(09:18):
batters typically they might even let him face fewer tomorrow,
and they have no problems pulling him and they've got
the super pen now, so if they're willing to do that,
that might be better than you know, Randy or excuse me,
Michael King being like, you know what, I can keep going,
I feel good, everything's good, and then you leave him
in a couple of batters too long and put yourself

(09:39):
in a real pickle. So I'm very much willing to
entertain that opportunity. But yeah, I mean between the eleven
to one, you know, SmackDown on Wednesday and and pathetic
going six and two thirds innings and the off day today,
I mean, we've got a lot of guys who I
funny thing, I'm worried about them not pitching tomorrow because
then they're going to be rust by the time that

(10:00):
man has a bitch on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Turning our attention to the weekend with that one news
story in the there it is our first speed bump,
right like everything's been coming up roads is Oh, there's
the text text, notice Michael King on the injured list.
It's baseball. Things change all the time. The circle keeps
on turning forever. But when I'm looking at this Dodgers

(10:27):
team and having watched them a lot more closely the
last week as well, Here's what I'm really looking out for.
I'm going to start with Mookie Betts. Mooky Betts is
hitting better the last two weeks. He is hitting better.

(10:47):
In fact, in his last six games he's batting three
seventy four to fourteen forty one for an eight ninety
five OPSU. If you back it up to two weeks,
the ops numbers are down, but he was hitting two
eighty so he was starting to put the bat to
the ball so slowly, slowly, Mookie Betts is starting to hit.

(11:09):
So he's number one on my hit list then for
the weekend. To me, Shoe Heyo Tani's a force of nature.
You know, he's he's gonna get the homers he gets.
He's gonna do what he does and he'll strike out
sometimes too, But Mookie's the guy to me that that
I'm always scared about the most on the Dodgers. So

(11:30):
you know, full attention to Mookie Betts, who's raised his
average like twelve points in the last two weeks.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Well, you know, orl shoe he Otani was the first pitcher,
first leadoff pitcher to register a triple as the Dodgers
were swept out of the Freeway Series. My favorite, my
favorite meme ever, the tungsten arm o'doyle meme getting exactly

(11:57):
against the Dodgers by the Angels is maybe my favorite ever. Yeah,
I mean I haven't looked back. I'm curious, Craig, since
you've been paying a little bit more attention. Did they
ever move Mooki out of the two spot or has
he always hitt in the two spot all year long?

Speaker 4 (12:12):
No?

Speaker 1 (12:12):
What they actually flip flopped him and Otani a couple
of weeks ago when he was struggling the most, and
it was like, hey, you know, and it was it
was a double a double edged thing. One was give
Otani a batter, like so that when he's pitching he
doesn't have to just like literally turn around and and

(12:34):
run over and hit when it when it's the home team,
give him a second to go get a breath. But
the other was, according to the you know yak Masters
on their broadcast, that they that Dave Roberts just wanted
Muki to just like relax and just try and get
on base, you know, like, don't worry about hitting homers,
don't worry about anything else. Just do what you do.

(12:56):
You're great at lead off, Just work the count, you know,
get on base. So they did that for a very
brief period, and I was actually thinking that when I
turned on the Dodgers Angels game and then Otani was
back lead off, and I'm like, oh, okay, I guess
they switched. But it might be more of literally a
home thing for them when Otani pitches as opposed to,
you know, on the road, it doesn't matter so interesting

(13:20):
to keep an eye on the other guy has gotta
be the fucking bridge troll Max Muncie, who was out
and went for some sort of of imaging yesterday, but
prior to that, he came back off the disabled list
and went eight for twenty three with four homers, nine walks,

(13:45):
and four strikeouts. Just Ruthian shit, Bonzian shit. Fourteen oh
one ops coming off the injured list. So don't want
that keep him down. If he's got some imaging and
some issues and he's day to day, that's something I'm

(14:07):
going to keep a keen eye on. Is Max Munsey
Is he just in the lineup or not? Because to me,
when you look at the rest of that lineup the
way it's assembled now, where you've got some kind of
random assortment of guys like Alex Friedland and Miguel Rojas

(14:30):
or Hunter Fiducia Pajez who's really cooled off, Confordo who's
somehow still on that team and hitting one eighty seven.
These are the guys populating the bottom of their lineup.
And you know, Edmund's out right now. And as you
said on last night's show, Rafee, like right now the
Padres lineup is more balanced and deeper than LA's.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Oh, certainly. And Max Munsey is one of those people who,
depending on the game situation, I would be very fine
with Mike Schilt pulling Randy Vasquez, you know, three or
four innings into the game, you know, three in change,
and if we get to Max Munsey's spot in the lineup,

(15:13):
because right now he is such an extreme platoon split
where he's got an OPS on the season of nine
eighty two against righty's and five seventeen against lefties. And
it's like, if there's runners on base when Mounsey comes
up the second time through against Randy, almost malpractice to
let Randy go against him when you could bring in

(15:35):
Yuki mat Suey and essentially nerf that spot in the
lineup early on in the game tomorrow. So that's something
that I'm going to be looking out for very much
on ops in August, just like insane, insane shit. So

(16:00):
all eyes will be on him for sure, and I'm
just trying to pull up his stats as well. Do
you know where they've normally been hitting him in the lineup?

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Uh? Yeah, like fifth?

Speaker 2 (16:13):
Yeah, yeah, So like that makes it I don't know
that that makes me feel even stronger about what I'm saying,
because you're really having the dregs of that lineup come
up after him, So like you might as well just
put in a lefty and let him face whoever and
it doesn't really matter, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Yeah, it's probably you remember you remember, Yeah, I was
gonna get to that name. Like Aas is a guy
who beat us last the last time the Padres played
the Dodgers, Like he completely went off. This Dodgers team
is really talented and on any given night, anybody in
that lineup can be pretty threatening. I mean, Freddie Freeman

(16:52):
is one of the best hitters in the past decade.
And he you know, we we barely talk about him
at all. I really think it's gonna come down to
the Dodgers pitching.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
They they've got Clayton Kershaw facing off against our beloved
Strandy or an opener or who knows what. But following him,
you've got Blake Snell working his way back from injury,
and you know he's been he's been limited but fairly solid.
And then you have Tyler Glass now who's working his

(17:23):
way back from injury, and I think has been a
little bit worse than Snell because.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
He was really good last time out though ten strikeouts
in five innings.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Yeah, but pretty limited in what he can do. But
like those guys, like, Dodgers pitching is going to be
all the Padre's beat him, you know, getting to that bullpen,
having a solid approach. Like I know, the Dodgers lineup
is deep, it's good. Padrey's pitching is very good, and
Mike Shilt is known levers to pull basically all season

(17:59):
with a few notable exceptions. But like I feel their lineup,
you know, we shouldn't underplay it. Alex Freeland is a
weak spot right now, but he's a kid getting his
footing like that. Dude's a fifty grade prospect, you know
the that you know he was asked about a lot

(18:20):
from other teams, Dodgers making their bullpen better, and they
held on to him.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
That may not have been wise.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Considering Los Angeles Times, this morning, Dylan Hernandez wrote an
opinion piece basically holding Andrew Freeman over the fire for
not improving the bullpen at the deadline and standing pat
with their There are six prospects who get Fangrass grades
fifty or more, but padres have to beat these Dodgers' pitchers,

(18:51):
and I.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Can the offense stay hot.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Or or you know, are we going to see what
we saw in the playoffs at the end of the NLDS.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
No matter how well and this is something we talked
about last night, but no matter how well Kershaw and
Snell and Glass now do, none of them will make
it past at the very the sixth inning, and in
all likelihood the fifth inning, and then the ball goes
to Jack Dryer, Anthony Banda, Alex Vesia, Ben Casparius, Justin Robleski.

(19:36):
These are the players that are in the Dodgers bull
Alexis Diaz. These are the players that are in the
Dodgers' bullpen right now. It's really not that impressive. And
I'm not trying to you know, condreb demons or anything,
but I was talking to my dad a little bit
earlier this morning, and of course he's, you know this,

(19:59):
in dismay over the situation in LA but you bring
up I just when when you brought up Freeland, it
just really made me think, like how much how crazy
is it? And I understand it's a different it's a
different mindset, but the Dodgers probably could have traded Alex

(20:21):
Freeland in Dalton Rushing and gotten Mason Miller.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
Oh, one hundred percent. Rushing is the highest rated, Like
I put Rushing in their untouchables, you know, because he's
gonna Smith. But they have Zayer, Hope, Jose Paula Jackson, Ferris,
Alex Freeland, Gardo Henriquez, and River Ryan. All those guys
are fifty grade future value prospects by Fangrass. Leawo, uh sorry, Leo.

(20:52):
Dallas Devrees was a fifty future value Fangrass prospect. So
you gotta imagine two of those guys less maybe a
couple other deeper dudes from the system, or hell even
three of them, you know, throw an injured River Ryan
their way to replace Mason Miller, and that dude is

(21:12):
wearing blue.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Honestly, I I think if LA had just made the
Mason Miller trade, what's the real, real chance that Dalton
Rushing is going to be a key component of the
next Dodgers World Series team With Will Smith here like
signific hent what what's maybe he could be? Is Alex

(21:39):
Freeland going to be a key core contributor to the
next Dodgers World Series team, you know? Or is he
going to be somebody like a high Sun Kim that's
kind of on the on the fringes, you know, depth,
You're going to turn that into an impact weapon that
could help their team today in these games coming up

(22:00):
the next two weekends. And instead they're like, oh, well,
you know our value, look at look at our tables
we held onto our value. Yeah we got Look we
got a number one farm system. Look at our efficiency
and look at the coupons we clip. Look at the
money we saved. Like you suck, you didn't do the job.
You're overtaxing your superstars and you're under supporting your club

(22:26):
at this point, and you're just counting on your training
staff to save you by bringing back all of your
relievers in the last two weeks of the season. I
truly believe, and I'm not trying to disrespect the Dodgers.
I think it's the dumbest thing a Padrey's podcast could do. Today.
We're a game up in the standings, get all froggy,
get over our skis, get all drunk on our on

(22:48):
our own juice, and go they suck. You know, like,
not only do the Dodgers not suck, they could win
the series, they could sweep the series. We could be
two games down in two weeks and are we gonna
act like a crushed balloon at that point? Hell? No,
I love this Padres team. I think they're a terrific team.
I'm just not going to disrespect a five hundred million

(23:11):
dollar assembled roster. Like They've got the ability two weeks
from the end of the season to be the super
team that they have set themselves up to be. But
they can't be that the next two weeks. They just
cannot be that the next two weeks. They won't have
any of those guys back the next two weeks. So
this is the time for San Diego. To concentrate, don't

(23:35):
get froggy, don't get all full of yourself. One game
at a time. You've got a talent advantage for the
next two weeks, and if you can build a game's
up advantage, that's something you might be able to ride
to the end.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Did you test the padres didn't pass last year? You know,
frankly they didn't. They had the team that was said
to be the World Series favorite, the team that was
the most dangerous in the playoffs, and they might have
listened to it. I know we certainly did. In the
fan base, you know, there was a lot of hubris
going on. I talked to former Have a Drink guest

(24:11):
and Dodgers fan Eric Edelstein. He's a voice actor, an actor.
You've seen him on Drunk History, You've seen him all
over the place. And what he had to say because
he was frustrated. He loves shohe Otani. He used to
take the train down to Angel Stadium to watch Otani.
Pitch loved the Mike trout Otani. Era really wanted to

(24:33):
see them face off. And I talked to him as
he left the stadium yesterday and he said, Andrew Freeman
runs his club, and partly because of the ownership of
the group being Guggenheim Partners, this fucking financial company, it
gets run like an insurance company, and aj Preller, much
to his credit and much to our delight, our chagrin,

(24:56):
our woe, our ecstasy, he does not run the.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Padre is like an insurance company.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
He runs the Padres like a race car team that
can't get insurance.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
But you're right assembling parts, you know, getting new parts
for upgrades. Yeah, I kind of like that. I kind
of like that. I kind of like that a lot.
All we're trying to do here, and I just want
to be clear because I have a little back and
forth going in the chat right here. I'm not trying
to put any uh cool water into our hot tub

(25:37):
right now. But this is the day before a huge series.
So to me, this is like gathering in the war
room getting ready. And the last thing you do going
into a big series is just disrespect everybody and and
be like, well, we're just so much better. That's how
you get a big head, and then you get your
head shoved in, and then and then how do you respond,

(25:57):
you know, And I'm not down for that. I like
this team. I like our team. I like how complete
this team is, and I fully respect that a Hall
of Famer like Clayton Kershaw could shut down the Podreys,
and Blake Snell could shut down the Padres, and Tyler
glass Now could shut down the Podres the next three days.
I like this team and I like our direction, and

(26:18):
I think the important thing that we're just experience is
driving all three of us right now. I can feel
it in the in our commentary. The season isn't over
this weekend, you know, like it's not the last weekend
of the series, so it's not all in yet. Going
all in and then having it all fall apart in
the last month would be terrible. I really like this team.

(26:40):
Stay together, give your balls a tug, you know, settle
down and play the games, because this team loves to win,
but they hate to lose. And I am done, I
think with shorzy references other than hell yeah, fuck yeah, well.

Speaker 2 (26:56):
Well, and I just want to say to and I
think this is what you're conveying Craig, Like, I actually
think no one said it better than Choho Tani when
he was giving the pregame speech to Samurai Japan when
he was like Mike Trout, Mookie Pets, Paul Goldschmidt, like
they're all playing against us. We know these names, we
respect these names, but just for today we can beat them,

(27:18):
like we we just for today, we don't have to
admire them. We can just focus on winning. And I
think that, like that is exactly the right attitude to have.
They're the Dodgers, They've won however many you know, consecutive
nls or you know, fourteen or thirteen or fourteen or whatever.
It is like you have to respect that you're in
a division race, like with Goliath, but like you're David

(27:39):
and you have a sling shot and like that, just
for today, just focus on taking your shot, you know,
and and and don't think about down the road. In
celebration of all of this, there's a couple of things
I want to bring up. The first of all is
you find folks who are here are the first to
know that we actually dropped a new piece of merch.

(28:02):
Everyone relaxed. It's not a shirt. No, it's just a mug.
It's a Padres hot tub mug that says baseball is
stupid and no one should watch. So everyone can relax.
Everyone can take a breath, and in fact, everyone can
sip some nice coffee or nice tea because we can
all agree that baseball is stupid and no one should watch.

(28:25):
So if you go to padreshottub dot com slash merch,
it's there and you can find it and you are
you are set to go. The second thing I wanted
to do is celebrate the ascendancy of this incredible Padres
team by looking back. And you might have been spoiled

(28:47):
by a tweet from the Athletic Today Craig, but I
wanted to do some trivia and ask you on September
twenty fifth, twenty ten, that is the last time that
Padres were in first place in NL West in the
can you name that day's starting lineup?

Speaker 1 (29:05):
Wow? Okay, so first off September twenty fifth, because I
did see September twenty fifth being the last day the
Padres were in first place in the second half of
the season or the latest or whatever was that the
Cubs series the five but the beginning of the final

(29:26):
week of the season, because I believe the Padres lost
either two out of three or maybe three out of
four to a last place one hundred loss Cubs team,
and that's where they really lost it. And then they
went to San Francisco and they won, and they won
again to keep their hopes alive. So was that.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
But they were playing the Cincinnati Reds at home.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
Well, never mind that, I don't know, I don't remember.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
I have one.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
I only have one, and it's Chase Headley. That's all
I got. Chase Headley. Every time you asked a trivia question. Rafy,
So I'm good, I'm gonna say Chaseley. I think he
was on.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
He was in the lineup. You might be surprised where
he was hitting in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
But okay, well, do we know who the starter was
for the Reds? Can we just do that?

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yes? The Reds starter was Travis Wood.

Speaker 1 (30:28):
Sick. Don't remember him at all? Oh? He was a
country singer, right.

Speaker 2 (30:33):
Yeah, Travis Wood was a left. He was a left.
He played for eight parts of eight seasons with the
Reds the Cubs. Uh, and he did do a tour
of duty at Peco Park. He was on the padres
for fifty two and a third innings in twenty seventeen.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Wow, okay, so I'm gonna say. I'm going to say
do Norphia.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Was not in the lineup, damn it?

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Over one was was Will playing every day? I mean,
Adrian Gonzalez was in the lineup.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
Adrian Gonzalez was hitting fourth, Will, and and why you
specify which Will you were referring to?

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Venable?

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Will? Venable was hitting lead off centerfield.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Okay, even against the lefty. See I thought maybe de
Norfia would have platooned with him. But okay, okay.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
X time, that's right, the X man X time was in.
It was bad a second playing second base?

Speaker 1 (31:35):
In second base? You said Adrian was fourth? Yeah? So
third was Chase?

Speaker 2 (31:44):
No?

Speaker 1 (31:45):
No? Interesting interesting hints? Okay, I want to hint.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
Uh the position was shortstop? A third to Hata yep,
Miguel Tahta Milta.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
So then Ryan Ludwick fifth?

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Maybe yep, Ryan Ludwick fifth?

Speaker 1 (32:08):
Okay, now Chase? Now Chase sixth?

Speaker 2 (32:12):
No, there was someone hitting above Chase Headley. Chase was
a seventh hole.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Wow, like Jerry Harriston or your victory albo one of
those two clowns.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
I had forgotten that this person existed. That That is
what I'm I will say is my hint. He was
playing left field.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Just give it.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
Oscar Salazar.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
I still don't remember who.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
So Chase Headley was fatting seventh.

Speaker 6 (32:46):
Oh god, yes, eighth was I mean the picture was
hitting ninth and I just had a flashback from my
season ticket days and I'm sorry I went because we
got some emails about our mug that we'll talk about
in the second.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Did you say Matt stars at all?

Speaker 2 (33:06):
No, he's on this lineup, he's on that.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
No, he would have been on the bench if he
was anyway. No, we're just missing the catcher. So if
it's not your victorial, but assume everything else they had
and I am blanking. The other catcher was barred.

Speaker 7 (33:20):
No, no, it was no, we're passed barred bear it
maybe no it was Nick Hundley. Oh, and pitching for
the Padres that day was John Garland, who went sixteen.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
He was strong three earned runs. So the full lineup
was venable x nine, t Hata, Adrian Gonzales, Ryan Ludwick,
Oscar Salazar again apparently a real person, Chase Hedley, Nick Hundley,
and John Garland and Kristin Orphia did end up pinch
hitting for John Garland in a classic National League West

(33:56):
double witch.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Uh uh.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Uh no we won we want we won that day, Yeah,
we want.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
Any yeah, okay, okay, Well we did just get.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
A bunch of emails about something going wrong with our
our mugs, something having.

Speaker 1 (34:22):
To do with copyright.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
Maybe Jackson Merrill's mom has baseball and stupid and nobody
watch trying to shoe somewhere. But just to let everybody know,
we will figure that out. And I have no idea
what that could.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Be, literally, no idea what that could be.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
But we figure it out. He did.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
He did start in left field. That stairs started a
couple of games for the Padres and left field, but not.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Many are Were you kidding about the copyright thing with
the mug? No that I made a joke about it.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Well, we'll talk about it. We'll talk about it off.
This is this is air.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
What this is my phrase? No, it's our logo and
knife phrase. There's no way I did not copyright it.
It's not possible.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
Turns out you stole it from Eric Carrows. He used
to say it in nineteen ninety three all the time.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Oh my god, let's bring up Friar Goose. This is
group therapy now I need.

Speaker 6 (35:40):
I got a run boy, all right, take care, Chris, Hey, yes, sorry,
I was browsing the mug.

Speaker 8 (35:49):
My bad, I was. I was taking out the site.
Looks nice, guys, Very well done, Very well done. Hey
joining you guys. I'm a block outside of Disneyland. I
don't know how long much longer I can hide from
my kids, but just want to jump in because it's important.
It's important.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
We are.

Speaker 8 (36:04):
We are on the eve of of you know, another
yet another Dodger series. You know, you guys are are
always keeping it classy, keeping it level headed.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Don't want to go overboard, but I will.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
Guys, I'll do it for you.

Speaker 8 (36:17):
Don't worry. I'm I'm a I'm a much less classy fan.
I think we're gonna roll these guys. I think there
are a bunch of bombs, probably potentially the biggest bust
in MLB history as a team. Maybe maybe not. I'm
just asking the questions. I'm just asking the question, guys,
important questions we have to ask. You know, A sho
Hel Tani uh, you know, people respect him, they like him.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
You know I can go to that level. I don't mind.

Speaker 8 (36:43):
I think he's you know, potentially alleged degenerate gambler show
heo Tani doesn't scare me, guys, doesn't scare me. I
think I think we can handle him. I think this
team is evolving. I think they're finding out what they
can do, who they can be. I'm very interested in
finding out if they can become the dragon slaying team.

(37:03):
I want to know in the regular season, let's see
that's something this team has already been. It's an area
we've already become. I want to see where this team
can go. And my question for you guys is this weekend,
are there any specific matchups that you want to see
that you're interested in seeing? Because I know this team
has the potential. I know this team has you know,

(37:24):
the talent to be, you know, to match up with
them head to head, especially now, But what specific matchups
are you looking for.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
To prove it, to show it right? What are are you?

Speaker 8 (37:35):
Is there any at bat you want to see? Is
there any pitcher you want to see you face our guys?
Is there any situation you want to see our guys
come through and and and really nail it to convince you,
guys that this is it, this is the team of destiny.
Is there any matchup you're looking forward to this weekend?
I'd love to hear your take on that, guys, And
that's what I got because I can go back Disneyland.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Thanks guys, all right, take care fr Goose, appreciate you.
Earlier I talked about the offensive guys that you know
have my attention on the Dodgers right now, Rafie, I
guess from our guys side, i'd be excited to see
the Morijone O'tani matchup at some point over the weekend
and to get that feeling a lot Tanner Scott last

(38:17):
year that we've got that guy that can shut down
Otani in a big spot. And then, honestly, the other
thing is, I'm really curious to see how the Padres
attack someone who they should know very very very well
in Blake's noow and how they go about that and
if they can get him to eighty pitches in four innings.

(38:39):
I'm very curious about that one. So those would be
the two i'd bring up.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Yeah, I mean, honestly, my my matchup that I'm most
looking forward to is Luisa Rise and Jackson Merrill versus
plate discipline, because the entire name of this game against
the Dodgers is get to the bolt and get to
the bullpen, get to the bullpen. And for Kershaw, he's
not thrown more than ninety pitches except for twice the season.

(39:08):
Every other game he's been under ninety pitches. So you
want to wear him out as quickly as possible in
that first game and get to the bullpen. And then,
like you said, for Blake Snell, it's the same thing.
Like we know who Blake Snell is. His walk numbers
are lower this year, but you know you can, you know,
take the what is the expression you can lead the
horse to water camage? I don't know, whatever, fuck it

(39:29):
he walks. Guys, we know that. And I think yesterday
we you know, before the onslaught sort of poured on.
One of my frustrations was that the Giants pitcher, I
can't remember his name, the Taiwanese guy like so clearly
didn't have it, just didn't have it and couldn't find
the strike zone and couldn't locate and horizon. Merrill were

(39:52):
up there, and we know that they're kind of our
jumpiest hitters or least disciplined, I would say, and they
were swinging like second third pitch late appearances, and they
just didn't need to be They could have been waiting,
waiting these guys out and that eventually you know, their
next plate appearance. They got that around, et cetera. But like,
to me, like that is like name of the game,
especially against Kershaw, just like make him throw pitches in

(40:15):
the zone, make him beat you there, especially against left
haated hitters, you know, not giving him free strikes by
swinging it at garbage. So that's the matchup I'm looking
forward to. And then also just the like Xander's been
better than Mookie this year on the whole, and that's
pretty sweet, and that hasn't been the case, and I
will be very intrigued of like the erstwhile red Sox.

(40:38):
You know, players who have come to either side of
the NLS rivalry, you know who outshines the other at
this point. So seeing Xander do well, especially with Underson
scoring position, I think would be that would make me believe.
To answer Friar Gruce's question.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
Here comes Heal and Cal, who one of our patrons said,
after having only listened to audio versions of the show
and then showing up on one of our previous Discord
live recordings, he always thought was actually named Healing Cow.
So welcome back. My healing.

Speaker 9 (41:15):
I am not a cow, but I appreciate that the
I had two stats that I just found really interesting
that I wanted to share in the Athletic article this
morning that one of our five numbers that speak to
the Padres season and the change, and one that I
thought was really interesting for you, Craig, is five point

(41:38):
three to three. It's the number of runs we've been
scoring per game since the trade deadline, and that compares
to four point eight before. So you had talked about
that single run that we needed. Well, we found it,
right have the data to prove that we found it.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
I love that, man, That was perfectly said.

Speaker 9 (42:00):
And then the other one I just wanted to give
flowers too, is has anyone looked at Jacob Cronawer's flash
line lately.

Speaker 1 (42:09):
Killing it.

Speaker 9 (42:11):
Well in the last seven games he has a five
hundred on base percentage and of four thirty five the
last fifteen games, and I'm now renewing the call he
needs to hit like it like. I think that that
is the engine that's that's driving the bottom of the
lineups for surgence that we've seen, and I would love

(42:31):
to see that flash line hitting second instead of as
Rafie just mentioned Leith Rise and its constant patal at,
you know, just behaving normally with balls being pitched towards him,
whether that's the statue takes or hitting everything, no matter
how much of a waste pitch it is. So I

(42:54):
don't know. I've this has been the greatest twenty four
hour off day that we've had of just sitting here
basking and oh yeah, no, everything's great. And then of
course the Michael King news came out. But I still
think the vibes are great. The Dodgers subredit was melting
down last night, Dodgers Twitter was melting down last night.
I think the vibe difference is really what the teams

(43:15):
need to go on into this series and really just
just go in there and say, look, we're playing with
house money right now. We're up a game when no
one thought we'd be here, not even like Rafie didn't
even think we'd be here per yesterday. Play with the
house money, play loose, play free, and let the Dodgers
get booted at home, Like, let that be that's the goal.

(43:37):
Have the Dodgers get boot at home. Have people be
gone in the seventh inning as they normally are when
they're losing like that, that's the goal. Just play loose
and free and you know, just make the.

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Series perfectly, perfectly put. Thank you so much, great call.
I I am thinking in some of those terms right now,
like in the weirdest way. And I know it's probably
just hopium or copium or one of thebiums along the way,
But I just have this weird feeling that subbing out

(44:10):
King for Vasquez and going against Kershaw could just create
the right baseball god storm where you've got the people
after the game where we had Kershaw, they had some
guy with a one and a half whip and they
still beat us. I don't know, I don't know. I
just something better than the black Panther moment of is

(44:36):
this your King? If they knocked Michael off the mound
in a couple of innings, Like, no matter what happens,
we understand the resilience of a Strandy Vasquez start, and
we know what to do to get from here to there.
So I'm really excited to see this one play out.
And by the way, we've gotten enough of a positive
reception that I will be at Bottle Rocket tomorrow evening

(44:59):
for a PHT watch party. And I see we've got
you know, close to a dozen folks already signed up.
So if you hadn't noticed that that we put that
event up a little bit earlier and you want to
come on down, you know, it's cool if you click
the button to say that you will show up. Either way,
it's fine, they're not going to close the doors, but
it'd be just nice to know that we've got a

(45:20):
bunch of people showing up.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
Yeah, and likewise, we do have an LA watch party.
It's at warts House that's spelled w I r T
S h a u S. It's on Librea, Librea, just
north of Beverly. I made a reservation. Should be enough
for everyone. But if you're planning on coming and you haven't,
let me know in the North North County channel, let

(45:43):
us know DM ME or let us know in that
just so we can make sure that you're you're accounted for.
But yeah, there's gonna be probably a dozen of us
watching up in LA altogether. This bar has a little
back room, so I'm hoping we can lock that down
and get it going. So yeah, I hope to see
people out there. Very exciting.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
Yeah, and if you're at the North North County party,
and you look in the mirror and say his name
five times, a thirteenth person will show up at the part.
Just be careful, be careful with your behavior. Well you
are up there. He tried to come on yesterday and
it didn't work out for whatever reason. But Caminity snickers.

(46:23):
It's working out now. He's on the stage as we speak.
What's up, buddy, Hey guys.

Speaker 5 (46:27):
Yeah, I don't know what happened. I hit accept and
it just never connected. But oh well I was yesterday.
I raised my hand because I think it was ray
for you. Talking about the difference between this year and
last year. I feel like our team's basically comfortable the differences.

(46:48):
The Dodgers just aren't. Just haven't been as good, which
is surprising. I know. I went into the beginning of
the year maybe the first time since I can remember.
I mean, even when the Padres were bad, always thinking,
you know, well some miracle happens. You know, the division's
always in play. In other words, you know, you go
into the year the division's in play until it's not

(47:11):
in play. That's always been my attitude. Twenty ten kind
of changed it forever, like, even no matter the expectations.
I always thought, well, you never know, because twenty ten
was such a surprise at the time, and I've always
just had that attitude, and this was the first year
that I thought, you know what, I can't even dream

(47:31):
on the division. Baseball is just so out of whack.
And I still think baseball is really out of whack.
But you know, that's just one thing I've learned being
a sports fan my whole life is as soon as
you think something's definite, it's not. More often than not,
it is not. And it kind of goes along with
the whole baseball is stupid. No one should watch lologan,

(47:52):
you know, that's just kind of sports in general, to
be honest. I mean, that's why we love it. You know,
you just never know. And this has just been this
has been such such a fun ride. And now now
we're to the point where we're playing the Dodgers the
next two weeks and it's still August, and it's one
that it's you know, probably maybe the first time ever
that we don't play them in September at all, and

(48:13):
it feels like this is it and we're still going
to have a over a month of baseball left after
it's all done, and as close as the race is,
so many things can change even after this this little
stint with the Dodgers, but never nevertheless super exciting thinking
about this weekend and next weekend series uh and seeing
what's happening. We're kind of in a position now where

(48:34):
we're gonna be disappointed if we don't win the division
this year. At least that's the way. That's the way
it's feeling, just the way it is. The one thing
I wanted to say is, you know, I've I've come
on here a lot, and you know, worried about the future,
worried about you know, you know, I want sustained success.

(48:56):
You know, as a fan, I do. The main thing
is it's innertainment. I want to be entertained. I want
them to be contenders. I want them to be relevant and
in contention. That's really all I'm asking is for them
to be to be that, and I want to sustain,
you know, as a Padres fan, as a Rams fan,
my whole life, they have gone through long stretches of

(49:19):
not of being some of the worst teams in the league,
and it's and that sucks. You know, this if if
they make the playoffs this year, and it's obviously looking
like they will. This will only be the second time
they've made the playoffs in back to back years in
the history of the Padres. They're gonna have a winning
record this year. It's only the second time they've had
four straight winning records, and they've never had five straight

(49:40):
seasons of winning records. You know, So this is you know,
these are the glory days and what this trade diedline.
I finally realized and I finally accepted. And I don't
know if it's it is what it is, you know
it it is what it is. But this I've finally accepted.
This is how a j Peler is going to do it.
And if there's one thing I know about sports, you know, organizationally,

(50:04):
you have to have an identity. You have to have
a plan. You know, on the field, you have to
have an identity. We talked about that so much last year,
how much the identity and the culture changed. You have
to have those. There's many different ways to win in sports,
but what you have to have is a plan, what
you're gonna do, how you're gonna go about it, and
everybody pulling the rope in the same direction. And that's

(50:27):
what the Padres have. You know, we can you can
agree or to disagree about what that identity should be.
But I do know this, once you picked it, once
you've decided that's how you're gonna do it, you just
got to do it. And everybody's got to be doing
it the same way. And that's the way. This is
the way A J. Pearl Are apparently is going.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
To do it.

Speaker 5 (50:46):
How much longer he can do it, I don't know,
but you know, I was looking at Kylie McDaniel's top
ten this today that he released for every team, and
I was looking at the Padres top ten, and I'm
looking at like, you know what, I'll bet he can
do it again next year, right now, next year, whatever
it is, I'll bet he can do the same thing
he did at the deadline next year. And you know,

(51:07):
can he keep doing it year after year after? I
don't know. I hope so. But this is how he's
gonna do it. So I'm not gonna fret so much
over you know, him over paying at the deadline or
giving up the super talent like Debris might be. This
is how we do it, This is how we roll.
I think you said it in a recent show, You're
glad he's our GM. I've I'm pretty pretty much for

(51:28):
maybe the first time one glad aj Pillar is our GM,
you know, because I see everybody on the same page,
going in the same direction. I give Mike Schildt a
ton of credit for that as well, and that's what's
made the last couple of years so enjoyable to watch
his team, and you know, I'm all in and I'm

(51:50):
I'm completely behind what they're doing.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
Love it man, good call. Appreciate you calling. We got
a couple more people and we're almost up against it here,
so I want to keep it rolling. But I'll just
play off his comments this way. Rafee. This morning, when
I was reading Craig Calcaterra's Cup of Coffee newsletter in
place of the Podres Daily, which got paywalld. This morning,

(52:12):
when I was reading it, I got to the Marlins
recap and heard that Jacob Marcy had a two homer
seven RBI day for the Miami Marlins, with Graham Polly
and Xavier Edwards also homering, and I thought, wow, that's great, Like,

(52:34):
that's great, good for you guys, because, honest to goodness,
could you imagine the world where the Podreys didn't make
the moves they made because they really wanted to hang
on to Jacob Marcy to see what they could get
from him down the road, and then they wind up
not making the playoffs last year or you know, bowing

(52:55):
out in the first round or whatever. Like half measures
aren't going to work when you're in the division with LA.
You gotta go all the way. And I don't care.
Right like Owen Casey made his debut for Chicago today. Today,
we've gotten four full season, five seasons of you, Darvish.

(53:16):
Now they get their first drip of Owen Casey. I
hope Jacob Marcy and Owen Casey and all these guys
are good. They were never going to help us beat
a championship team last year, the year before, the year
before that, the year before that, or the two years
after this. They never would. But the guys we've got
can win. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (53:36):
And this is what happens, by the way, when you
have good scouting and are talented at evaluating players and
you trade them away to places where they are able
to play when they would not have been able to
play in your system. And that's not necessarily a failure
of the Padres. You know, the Padres successfully turned Jackson

(53:59):
Merrill into a center fielder, and he's a better player
than Jacob Marcy. And Jacob Marcy was never going to
get a chance to play in San Diego. Maybe he
would have in the days when we were playing Bryce
Johnson and hey Joe in left field, but he's not
gonna play over Ramon Loreano. And Ramon Loreno is going
to be the Padres outfielder this year and next year.

(54:21):
And I think of all the players that you just named,
like I think Owen Casey is someone who obviously the Padres,
you know, seeking a corner outfield spot, might have benefited
from keeping around. But I mean, like Padres infield is
locked up. So Xavier Edwards wasn't going to play, Grandpa,
he wasn't gonna play. Jacob Marcy wasn't going to play.

(54:42):
And so yeah, they're playing now and they're improving, and
some of them might even be really good big leaguers
like for years to come. And like we've certainly seen
that in the Washington Nationals. But that is not a
failure of the Padres. That is saying, hey, like we
like what we have, we have it locked in now

(55:02):
let's trade from our strength to go and get something
else to make our team better. And this year's team
is just the absolute epitome of that. So yeah, there
are plenty of doomers who want to be like, well,
another Padres legend, trade it away, I can turn over
another team. It's not like that.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
Here's Flying Friar on group therapy.

Speaker 10 (55:20):
What's up, hey, guys, formally Flormont Padre.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
I have to switch it up.

Speaker 10 (55:26):
I'm bring us up on a great deadline podcast. But
if you want a good, good laugh, go to Freddy
Fermen's page, scroll down a baseball reference page, scroll down
to similar batters, and you're gonna find a name there
that I think you'll get a good chuckle out of.
But the one thing that I'm really going to be
paying attention to from the first batter Tatis stepping up
there on a Friday, is going to be Pitcher's command.

(55:50):
I'm really interested to see of how the tempers are
going to be this series. And I just want to
see good baseball. I just want to see guys play
the game. But you know, if if something's going to
get instigated, then I'd hate to see it really unravel.

Speaker 1 (56:03):
So thanks guys, Thank you. Flamont Padre to answer his tease, rafie,
when you go to go to Freddy for Means Baseball
reference similarity scores. Number one on the list. Louis Campisano.

Speaker 5 (56:25):
Louise Campisano.

Speaker 1 (56:27):
Here's the full list.

Speaker 11 (56:28):
Louise Campisano, Chris Costey, Tom Wilson, Bill Cooper, Johnny Promesa,
lou Louden.

Speaker 1 (56:36):
I don't even know who this is.

Speaker 11 (56:38):
Johnny Promesa was born in nineteen twenty five.

Speaker 1 (56:42):
Why are we comparing him to Freddy for me? I
don't understand.

Speaker 11 (56:45):
Oh my god, Gabriel Moreno, ePIE Hamilton, Connor Wong and
Bill Cash.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
Wait, where's the link to this list?

Speaker 1 (56:57):
This is if you just go to Freddy for means
Baseball reference page. That's one of the things they have
Toward the bottom is similarity scores. That's so, and then
yeah and then similar through age twenty nine. His number
two comp is Bob Brenley. So okay, okay, but uh
did you happen to see that? Yesterday? The El Paso

(57:22):
Chihuahuas blew out whomever they were playing so badly that
they put in a position player pitcher, and then Campusano
came up and batted left handed and got a hit,
and got a hit.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
I love it. You know what, just bat them left
Just just let him bat left handed. And if he
can hit, why not. Oh you gotta switch hitting catching
prospect to any team can come and trade for because
he's not fucking playing with the Badres. That's that much,
is damn clear. At this point, nobody wanted him.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
You've got to think that like that. At the minimum,
AJ shopped him like forty five times the last six weeks,
at least forty five times, and nobody wanted Louise Campisode,
who continues to destroy Triple A and may in the
end go into the Old Passa Chuala's Hall of Fame

(58:14):
as one of their greatest hitters of all time. Nonetheless,
Fly in Frar formerly floor Mont Padre, good call, thank you.
Slam Daris said he was going to be quick to
wrap things up, and here is slam Darris and he's
got the broom emoji. I love it, slam Terris. What's up?

(58:35):
Unmute yourself? There we go. How are you doing, guys?

Speaker 4 (58:40):
I'm coming on just to plug our padres hot to
meet up in Seattle for the second part of the
better Cup. It's gonna be Tuesday game August twenty six.
We have our chat going on in Seattle meetup as
part of watch party. So if you're in the Discord
and you haven't checked that out yet, check that out.
If you're a Civic Northwest Padres fan, if you're on

(59:03):
the Free Feet, I don't know if this's going out
to the Free Feet or not.

Speaker 1 (59:06):
Is it? I think we might put it. Yeah, we'll
put We're gonna put it.

Speaker 3 (59:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (59:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (59:11):
If it is, then you have to come into the
discord to get the details for the meetup.

Speaker 1 (59:14):
So do that.

Speaker 4 (59:16):
Join the discord. And with that being said, the only
other thing I want to do is read this really
neat tweet. I saw that came across Eno Saras at
Eno Saras. The bad Ax projection courtesy of at Derek
Cardi lasts eighty five WRC plus positive defense Freddy for
me seventy nine WRC plus virtually the same defense, and

(59:39):
I just I wanted to get your guys to take
on that.

Speaker 9 (59:41):
That's all.

Speaker 12 (59:41):
I just think, you know, everyone saw the metrics are
dead wrong. It's about the best way I could put
It's lived. Appreciate you, brother, good call.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Yeah, I'm a big Freddy for Mean fan right now,
and I every time I say that, I think about
how I felt about Austin Nola the first two weeks.
But I don't think it's the same guy. I don't
think it's the same guy. I think Freddy for Mean
is actually good. I really really do. I think he's
gonna be a good player for this team for a

(01:00:21):
couple three four years to come. And it puts a
lot less pressure on Ethan Sallas to get up to
the big leagues as fast as possible if you've got
a guy who can really hold down the fort at
the bottom end. Any other closing thoughts, Rafie before we
shudder this one and head to tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
No, I'll be paying attention to any reporting about Michael King,
and you know, just a the severity of the injury
put that through the Padres injury translator. And also how
the Padres plan to deploy Randy Basquez if they do tomorrow.
I don't know. Yeah, I feel like there was gonna

(01:01:01):
be some shenanigans. I bet the Padres probably won't say
the extent to which they plan on deploying their pitching stuff.
I saw a question in the chat earlier, I was asked,
do we think Dave Roberts is going to do some
shenanigans this weekend? I think absolutely absolutely, he's going to
do stuff again, like going back to the days of

(01:01:22):
the sinister slang, Like this is his k fabe, you
know he is. He's the undertaker, He's Randy Savage, Like
he's out there, he's trying to just pull off some shit.
He's trying to create a narrative. And I bet you,
like I bet you, there are going to be certainly

(01:01:44):
Dodgers fans and maybe even players who wrap themselves in
the blanket of the underdog and say, wow, that team
over there, you know, we're just so we're so injured
and we're so worn down, and like you know, oh, okay,
yeah they're they're coming in and they're hot and their
full strength, and you know, yeah maybe they maybe they're

(01:02:05):
gonna get us, but but but you know, we'll get
them back when full strength in October, when it matters.
I I fucking see that headline printed already. Uh, And
so don't listen to them, pull your heads down. You know,
Mike Schultz's primary job is just keeping his guys focused
on the task at hand. He doesn't need to do
any other you know, chicanery or anything like that, unless

(01:02:28):
you know, outside of ball is flying at Padres players
faces and arms and heads uh tatis. Chiefly there there's
nothing else that needs to be done. Just play your
play your game, do your job. Let's go fucking beat
these assholes.

Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
Go Padres, Go Padres. Talk to you tomorrow.
