Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let Darsh cook. Those are the three words that all
of Isles Nation is saying today, as in just five
hours from now, the Islanders are going to be on
the clock with the first overall pick in this year's
NHL Draft, but not before a big move has been made.
There have been a lot of rumors that Darsh is
trying to cook something up to trade up in the
(00:23):
draft and potentially get the Long Island kid, James Hagens
giving us the Matthew Schaeffer James Hagen's combo that most
of this fan base has been dying for aka Shagans.
The Shagans propaganda is hitting hard, and it is hitting
even harder with the fact that Noah Dobson soon to
(00:43):
be a restrictive free agent. He's been traded moments ago
to the Montreal Canadians in a blockbuster trade that involves
pick sixteen and seventeen in the draft, as well as
left winger Emil Heinemann. The Isles moving on from Dobson,
who as allegedly asked the team for eleven million dollars
AAV in a potential extension, which really has alienated a
(01:06):
lot of the fan base, saying that he's just not
worth of eleven million dollars a season, and now he
gets a pretty hefty extension with Montreal, by the way,
eight years, nine and a half million aav and for
Montreal after a first round loss to the Capitols in
a season where a lot of people were surprised they
(01:26):
even made it there in the first place. They get
to pair their recent Calder winning and Art Ross winning
defenseman and Lane Hudson with Noahdopson. That first line combo
is going to go very crazy. With Hudson being a
lefty Dobson being a righty, that blue line is going
to be something. And if you're Montreal you're looking to
(01:47):
build up for future playoff runs. They got the core
already in place, just need a few tweaks and you're
set to go for future playoff runs. I'm very excited
if I'm a Montreal fan right now. So it's still
a pretty good extension for Dabber, even with the down
season that he had in twenty four to twenty five
compared to his absolutely stellar twenty three to twenty four
(02:09):
where he put up seventy points, the most by any
Isles defenseman since the days of Dennis Poffin during the
dynasty years, and when you compare that to only thirty
nine points and almost the same amount of games played,
it's pretty much easier said than done. It's just kind
of a read the room situation, like there's just no
way that eleven million dollars a year would be worth it.
(02:31):
That being said, I would be remiss if I didn't
mention that this was gonna be a little bit Bittersweet.
Has been the isles best defenseman for the past two years,
so I hope he does really well in Montreal. Gonna
be rooting for him along the way. It needed to
happen if they want any chance of getting James Haggins
later on in the draft. Now they have a lot
(02:52):
more assets to work with, two later first round picks,
plus the Colorado pick in next year's draft, not to
mention their own pick. They have two next year, so
they have a lot to play with now in any
potential trade. Plus they have some assets already on the
roster that they would be willing to part with. There
have been a lot of rumors about the likes of
Jean Gabriel Pago, maybe Alex Ramanov. There's a hell of
(03:15):
a lot to work with here as Matthew darsh makes
his first big move as the new general manager of
the New York Islanders. Still five hours until draft times,
so it's entirely possible he cooks up more before the
time comes to make the first overall pick. He's going
to be speaking to the draft party later tonight at
(03:35):
Ubs Arena around I believe five, so figure about three
hours before he addresses the fans at the watch party,
where the Islanders are also going to be drafting from
this year because of the centralized nature of the NHL
draft this year, so a lot to look forward to.
Back with some more updates here on Pegs perspective if
(03:57):
we get anything new, but for right now, darsh cooking,
keep letting that man cook Giles, because there's much more
faith than ever that not only will Matthew Shaffer be
an Islander tonight, but also the Long Island kid James
Hagen's the same dude who has idolized guys like Matt
Martin growing up. By the way, he's a new special
assistant to GM Matthew Darshy Natsu's retirement just the other day,
(04:20):
moving into a position in the Isles front office. In
a move that I'd say really hasn't surprised anybody, so
kind of ironic that he brings up Matt Martin here,
but yes, he has idolized the Islanders growing up. Not
that he was gonna be the first overall pick, especially
with a guy like Matthew Shaffer available, But the hope
is still there for James Hagens, the Long Island Kid,
to come home tonight
