Meghan Markle has come under heavy criticism after posting a short video to Instagram that appeared to show her relaxing in a limousine as it passed close to the Paris tunnel where Princess Diana’s fatal crash occurred in 1997.

The Duchess filmed nighttime views of the city as her car drove by the Pont Alexandre III and Pont des Invalides bridges before turning the camera on herself, stretching her legs out across the back seat. Viewers soon pointed out that the route was just steps away from the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, where Diana, Princess of Wales, was fatally injured while being pursued by paparazzi.

Hi, and welcome to Palace Intrigue. I'm your host, Mark Francis.
Megan Markle has come under heavy criticism after posting a
short video to Instagram that appeared to show her relaxing
in a limousine as it passed close to the Paris
tunnel where Princess Diana's fatal crash occurred in nineteen ninety seven.
The Dutchess filmed nighttime views of the city as a

car drove by the Pont Alexandra the Third and Pont
de Envalid's bridges before turning the camera on herself, stretching
her legs out across the back seat. Viewers soon pointed
out that the route was just steps away from the
Pont de Lama tunnel where Diana, Princess of Wales, was
fatally injured while being pursued by Papa Razzi. The video,

(00:59):
part of a series of posts from Megan's first ever
Paris Fashion Week appearance, quickly drew condemnation online. One social
media user wrote, if driving towards Princess Diana's death scene
is a message to Prince William, then Meghan Mikle is
the devil. While Another commented, why would she film the
place his mother died? Moreover, why would she post it

(01:19):
on social media for the world to see. Royal commentator
Richard Fitzwilliams called the post utterly bewildering and insensitive beyond belief,
telling the Daily Mail, I don't understand what on earth
she was thinking. No advice and would ever advised doing
something so strange. Diana's death is a tragedy that discarred
so much of Harry's life, and I can't imagine he

(01:41):
would find this very appropriate. The Duchess, who had not
commented publicly on the backlash, had been in Paris to
attend peer Paolo Piccioli's debut show for balenci Aga. Wearing
an oversized white cape and matching shirt, Meghan had a
bad day overall. On social media. She was seeing greeting
designer pier Polo Piccioli with an enthusiastic air kiss that

(02:02):
went slightly awry. As she leaned in, Meghan appeared to
bump into Piccioli's face and sunglasses, before quickly recovering with
a laugh. The brief clip filmed as the two met backstage,
spread rapidly online, with fans joking that even Duchesses have
off days on the red carpet. The Duchess was swiftly

(02:23):
ushered to her seat just as the lights dimmed for
the runway. A spokesperson confirmed to Vanity Fair that Meghan,
Duchess of Sussex attended the Balance the Aga show in
Paris and Saturday in support of Pier Paolo Piccioli, who
recently assumed the role of creative director for the house.
This marks her first time back to the shows in
over a decade. Over the years, the Duchess has worn

(02:44):
a number of designs by Pierre Paolo. They have worked
closely together, collaborating on design for key moments on the
world stage. She has long admired his craftmanship and modern elegance,
and tonight was no different. This evening reflects the culmination
of many years of artistry and friendship, reflected in her
support for his new creative chapter at Balenciaga. Before arriving,

(03:05):
Meghan teased her return on Instagram, posting a short clip
of herself wearing a white pantsuit with black stilettos. At
the show, she was photographed in the same ensemble, her
look completed by a flowing white wrap. After the show,
Meghan was later spotted returning to her Paris hotel to
change into a sleek, black, backless balance yuga gown for

(03:26):
a dinner at Sugar and Upscale restaurant. According to a
source quota by The Daily Mail that Duchess dined at
the back of the candlelit restaurant, enjoying a light tapus
style meal that included Sardine's prawns and wine. Sugar's seafood
salad and raw Spanish prawns costs about seventy five dollars each,
while the cheapest wine on the menu is around seventy

(03:48):
five dollars per bottle, with the most expensive a two
thousand and one Ribera del Duero from Finke Vella Cleses
priced near one ninety dollars. For dessert, Meghan reportedly enjoyed
a chock tar costing roughly thirteen dollars. She then returned
to the hotel Plaza Athnae, located in Paris's so called
Golden Triangle, the same neighborhood beloved by Princess Diana and

(04:11):
home to the place Diana Memorial. Megan is believed to
have stayed in a superior room costing approximately thirty one
hundred dollars per night with courtyard views for added privacy.
In The Daily Beast, Tom Sykes observes the couple's much
publicized security concerns seemed to have faded. Both now appear
willing to cross the Atlantic quietly, without the drama that

(04:32):
once surrounded their every move. Palace officials, though, are uneasy
if they really plan to spend more time here. One
former courtier told me after seeing the Paris pictures, it
changes everything. It puts them back in the frame, and
that's not what anyone expected. Six adds her Paris appearance,
unveiled a million through Instagram rules, carried all the signatures

(04:55):
of the Sussex Operation, celebrity and glamour, softened by a
narrative of friend and creativity. Every image, the tailored white suit,
the chaufford car, the candle that after party in the
black evening dress was part of the same message that
she is relevant again on a continent where her in
laws still dominate the stage. Naomi May, writing for l

by her predecessors for anyone building a lifestyle brand. The
connections made during fashion month are in valuable currency. Fashion
weeks aren't just about runway shows. There where million dollar
deals are negotiated, partnerships are forged, and the future of
luxury commerce is shaped. By supporting her longtime collaborator Piccioli.

(05:41):
At this pivotal moment in his career, Markel executed a
deliberate strategy to cement relationships with high end brands, demonstrate
her cultural relevance in elite circles, and signals to potential
business partners that she operates at the highest level. The
most successful celebrity entrepreneurs understand that lifestyle isn't just about
what you consume well how you decorate. It's as much

about the clothes you wear as the company you keep
and how often you're photographed together. She's not chasing viral
trends or trying to appeal to every demographic. Instead, she's
associating herself with the sophistication and craftsmanship values that resonate
with her target audience. Scarcity always commands higher value than abundance,

debut may well translate into increased currency for both Meghan
the brand and her brand itself. According to Rob Shooter's
hashtag Shooter Scoop, Meghan's appearance came with a seven figure
price tag. A fashion insider told the outlet it wasn't
an invite, it was a transaction. Balenciaga wanted global attention,

(06:45):
and Meghan delivered. The source added that her team treated
the event like a movie premiere, complete with a private jet,
five star suite, and glam squad, all part of the agreement.
Industry insiders suggested that new Balenciaga creer director pire Pallo
Piccioli or Piccioli viewed Megan as the perfect figure to
help rebrand the label. She's modern royalty, and brands will

pay for that, aura, said one stylist. Another source quip
that while she's not walking the runway, she's still the
most expensive ticket in Paris. More ballast than just a moment.

Thanks very much, Queen Camella offered a tribute to her
friend Dame Jilly Cooper, after the author passed away unexpectedly
at the age of eighty eight. The Queen's message read,

(08:57):
I was so saddened to learn of Dame Jillie's death
last night. Very few writers get to be a legend
in their own lifetime, but jill was one, creating a
whole new genre of literature and making her own through
a career that spanned over five decades. In person, she
was a wonderfully witty and compassionate friend to me and
so many, and it was a particular pleasure to see

(09:19):
her just a few weeks ago at my Queen's Reading
Room Festival, where she was, as ever a star of
the show. I joined my husband the King in sending
our thoughts and sympathies to all her family, and may
her hereafter be filled with impossibly handsome men and devoted dogs.
Camilla Ah Mike Tindall's bold bid to reshape professional rugby

(09:40):
has hit a major obstacle after two of the sport's
governing bodies rejected his proposed breakaway league. The former England
rugby star and son in law of Princess Anne is
leading the development of R three sixty, an ambitious twelve
team global franchise competition aimed at delivering generational change in rugby.
Tindall has argued the new format could revive fan interest

and address financial instability across the sport, but both the
Rugby Football Union and the International Rugby Players Association have
moved to distance themselves from the venture. According to The
Guardian and the r A few plans to announce that
any male player who signs with R three point sixty
will be ineligible to represent England. Tyndall, who insists funding

has already been secured for three years, says the project
was designed to modernize rugby's business model and improve sustainability.
Rugby is feeling the fallout of the last few years,
with financial mismanagement, declining investment in the club game and
a product that is struggling to evolve. And are they
