Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi guys, welcome to Palas to the Core. My name
is Stephen Dawes. Thank you for joining me as you
always do. Right. So this is the review, the reaction
to the Not in a Forest game. So if you
haven't seen or heard it yet, do go and do so,
and then come back and listen to what I've got
to say about it. I knew this was gonna be
(00:22):
a tough game. I thought this would be a tough
game because obviously not a Forest Star are still pushing
in the league for you know, the highest place they
can get, and you know, and for us, obviously we
want to try and keep a bit of momentum, bit
of you know, our winning streak, our lack of losses,
shall we say, trying to get a little bit of
(00:42):
momentum towards the ultimate FA Cup finals, shall we say.
And so, yeah, so I knew this would be a
tough game. I mean, you know, not a Forest Star
you know, good defensively, We're good defensively most of the time,
apart from those two five five goal games that we
let in. But apart from that, you know, defense wise,
(01:05):
we've been very good this season. So two good defenses,
you think it's going to cancel each other out, and
pretty much I would say that was the case. You know,
first half, certainly, I think we had slightly more the possession.
I mean, in the stats it says it was fifty
to fifty practically, but I think first half we had
slightly bit slightly more of the possession, I think, and
(01:27):
I think we were working quite well. We were trying
to get the ball forward, trying to work it wide
and sending crosses in or sometimes cutting back and going across.
You know, we were doing some pretty good movement of
the ball and I felt that, you know, Commander and
Warton in the middle had a good link up there.
(01:49):
I thought they worked really well together to be fair,
and so you know, we were getting forward. But I
think one of the issues we had in this particular
game was our final product. It just wasn't quite there
in this game. You know, we've been we've been quite
clinical in front of goal, you know, over the course
of the season, off that rough patch at the beginning,
we've been quite good in front of goal and into
(02:11):
converting chances. But this game we just didn't have that
final little edge to get the ball in the back
of the net. I mean, we have plenty of opportunities
to do it. You know, we were we were going
in on a goal, we were having shots and things
like that. To not on Forrest's credit. You know, they
were working hard in defense and made it certainly very
(02:32):
hard for us to get a clean shot away. So
you know that's to the A's to not in Forrest's credit.
But do you feel as though there were a few
times where we perhaps didn't, you know, give that final
execution the way that we have done and can do
in fact, in our forward play. JP had a fairly
(02:53):
quiet game by his standards. You know, he didn't really
you know, he was doing what he usually does, but
in terms of in front of goal, he was he
was fairly quiet in this particular game. But I felt
that Esa and Sar we're working really hard at trying
to get in front of it, and they had probably
had more of the chances. I would say. Munoz had
had a really good chance that he kind of hit
(03:15):
as it was coming across. He hit it with his
left foot, which isn't his best foot. Unfortunately it was
saved by the keeper, but that was a very good chance,
and we had a couple of others as well, that
were very close to it, so I felt that we
we probably well. Again looking at the stats, we had
the majority of the chances, with twenty odd chances in
front of goal twenty odd shots, So I think that,
(03:36):
you know, if this had been another day, perhaps if
we'd have been a bit more on on it in
our final attack, we could have done a lot better
than just the one one. To be fair, but this
was a lot of a lot of this was about
the defenses and how they were going to cope with
each other, you know, the other team's play. And I
felt that, you know, we worked really hard at the
(03:56):
back as well, even though Forrest did have their answers.
I mean, Henderson had to make a few good saves
in both halves to keep them out, and likewise the
forest keeper had to do Sells had to do well
as well. So I think it was it was a
good balance in terms of position. Going back was a
(04:17):
forward It kind of ebbed and flows quite well, and
but first half it remained goalless unfortunately, even though we
did have a couple of really good chances, and I
thought that second half, hopefully we were going to come
out and be a little bit better. So well in
front of goal anyway, I think probably again at very
even second half, perhaps Forrest slightly edging it in certain
(04:42):
at certain points, but of course this is where the
goals came in. And it was on around sixty odd
minutes where Mitchell was brought down by Sales and the
defender and that was originally waved away but VR later
pulled it back for a penalty and it was good
(05:02):
to see. As he put it away, he did the
usual shuffle up to the goal, which which always it
kind of always worries me when they do that. You know,
they do the shuffle when they stop and you know,
I'm a bit old score up for you know, they
just go for it. But anyway, that's just my that's
just my thoughts. But yeah, he managed to put it away,
which was fantastic for him as well as much as
anything else, because it's good for his confidence. Apparently he
(05:25):
has been practicing them quite hard since he missed that
last one, so it was it was good to see
him put one in the back of the net, definitely,
But unfortunately it was only a few minutes later that
we conceded the equalizer, and it was it wasn't really
anybody's fault, you know. The shot came in, it was
deflected and there was nothing that Henderson could do about.
(05:45):
It was deflected wide of him. So it was as
well of those things where it was a bit It
was a bit unfortunate really, which is a shame to
be honest, but I think that it shows that I
think in the general run of play, I think we
were really good. It took a deflected shot for them
to get a goal, which I felt was a good
indication of how strong we were at the back. The
(06:07):
game wasn't without incidents. There were quite a few bookings
for not in a forest, for pushing players over and
stuff like that, and fowls. There was also the injury
to Adam Morton, which looked a bit innocuous when it happened,
but he never really recovered from it. He was limpy
quite a lot, so Hughes was brought on for him.
(06:28):
We'll have to wait and see how that happens. Oliver
Glas did say in the post match interview that he
felt is he thinks it's nothing serious, but obviously they're
going to have to wait and see how that pans out.
So I'll let you guys know as soon as I
can what the details are of his injury, because we
don't want him to be injured for the for the
f A Cup anyway. And apart from that, there was
(06:49):
a goal that was disallowed from in Katya. It was
a shot that came in from a and he's Andy
stuck his foot out, but he was offside and he
was offside. Unfortunately, there was an the one hit the
crossbar from that was a lovely little shot, a lovely
little curling shot which hit the crossbar. So, you know,
I think on another day, I think we could have
won the game. And that's that's just one of those
(07:12):
things I think, you know, sometimes we just aren't, you know,
a mixture of the you know, the strong defending by
not in a forest and also us not quite having
that final push, that final sharpness that at the end.
I think both of those things lent to a game
that was going to be quite low scoring for us.
But you know, I'm happy with the point. I think that,
(07:33):
you know, to get a point out of it is good,
even though I think we could probably have got the three.
I think a point is good. It means that we're
still unbeaten and it allows us to go into the
next game with a lot of confidence because I think
we played well. I think overall we did play well.
The movement of the ball was really good. Obviously there
was a few passes going astray, but the movement of
the ball was good and I felt that we did
(07:55):
a good job of it. Let me know down in
the comment section what you think of the game. It's
good to have your comments down and hopefully you're going
to be joining me for the next pregame interview, which
you're going to be coming up soon. And until next time,
don't forget to subscribe by the way, if you haven't already,
and I'll see you next time.
