Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi guys, Welcome to place to the corps. My name
is Stephen Dawes. Thank you for joining me. So I'm
gonna be talking about the Manchester City game. So we
haven't seen it yet. Do go and chickle it out.
Do go and listen to it, or watch it, or
however you normally do, and come back and listen to
what I've got to say, because I will be spoiling it.
(00:21):
It was a bad day at the office. Not gonna
sugar coat it, and I'm not going to go into
the whole ins and outs of everything that happened, because
I think we all know what happened, but it was
it was one of those games we had. We had
Chris Richards back, we had Maxim sta Qua he was
back after his head injury, and we had Jefferson Lermer
(00:41):
in there for Mark Gahey. You of course were suspended
when we had combarred it in with Waton in the middle,
which is a little bit concerned about. But you didn't
have a bad game in the previous game, so I
thought we'd give them the benefit of the doubt and
we started, came off to a fantastic start, scored an
early goal, really good goal, and I thought, you know,
(01:05):
that was a really good good way to start the game,
done that a few times now. Started with a very
early goal. Then we got second from Chris Richards. He
had a header going and so we were too year
up and I was actually really surprised. I think what
happened was we caught Manchester City off guard. You know,
they hadn't quite set yet, they hadn't quite got into
(01:26):
the mood of the game, into the rhythm of the game,
and we'd caught them on on the blind side and
managed to get two good goals in there. So I
was really pleased by that early start. Of course, then
Manchester City started to enforce their wood on the game.
I knew it was going to be a high possession
game for man City. I knew that was going to
(01:48):
be the case. And really from that point onwards we
were kind of trying to I mean, we did actually
get a third goal disallowed, a goal that was for
off side, and I think that that goal has gone
in and made it three Niel, I think things might
have been a little bit different, but it was disallowed
for offside, and at that point I felt that we,
(02:12):
you know, we were kind of starting to you know,
feel the force of Manchester City on us. And there's
no doubt about it. Kevin de Bruna had a huge
impact on that game, had a huge impact on the
goals and was instrumental in their fight back. And so
by the time, you know, you get onto the second
(02:33):
half of the game, we were already starting to feel
the presence of Manchester City and I think one of
the problems we had And I'm not I don't know.
This is not an excuse, it's not anything to say.
You know this, this is the reason why we lost
because Manchester City, they are the reigning champions. Yeah, they're
probably not going to win it this season, but they
(02:55):
they've really been on a good footing in the last
few weeks, you know, few games, they've managed to turn
things around from their poor performance early on in the
season and they're firing on pretty much all cylinders now.
So it's always going to be a tough ask for
us to do this. And also, you know, I've said this,
in the last few games, or a few games before
this one, we've looked like we haven't been playing as
(03:19):
well as we could, but we've still been winning, or
we've still been getting a draw, and I felt that
this was perhaps a step too far for us. That
you know, meeting Manchester City at a point where we're
not perhaps one hundred percent isn't a very good idea
because obviously you're going to get a lot of attacks
against you. And I think we were found out a
little bit in this game by not quite being one
(03:42):
hundred percent. I mean, when you look at it, Oliver
Glasden said that Chris Richards hadn't trained for about ten
days really before we came back into the squad, that
since Aqua hadn't trained for about a week because of
his head injury, so you know they're not one hundred percent.
You've got Jefferson Nermer coming from Mark Gahey. Now, Jefferson
l you know he's good in that area, he's good
(04:03):
at the back, he does work incredibly hard. But I
think we missed Mark Gaihe as well. Then you have
Cammarder in the midle who I don't think really should
have been in there from the beginning. I think it
probably should have been Hughes. The Hughes has been used
as a sub, so maybe he's still one hundred percent himself,
but so I think a lot of those things contributed
(04:24):
to the to our downfall really and also of course
there was the the substitution when he took off Matteta
and put on we were Hughes. Now, a lot of
people were very surprised about that, especially taken off of
John Frillick, Matteta and Oliver Glasna said in an interview
(04:45):
afterwards that he made a mistake, not a mistake in
substituting Geordrick Matteta, because he said he wasn't really doing
what he should have been doing. He wasn't really on
his game. You know, he wasn't going in for the challenges.
You know, he wasn't really holding up the ball well enough,
and he felt that he would take him off and
put somebody else on, which you know, you can understand
if he hasn't been playing that well, and that's what
(05:06):
you're going to do. And yeah, you know, he wasn't
in his he wasn't his best out there. But again,
you know, it's about these moments of brilliance that he
can bring such as Esa. You know, he may not
have a fantastic game, but he could score a wonder goal.
So a little bit undecided about that, but that's what
he said. He said that, you know, that's the reason
(05:27):
why he brought him off, because he wasn't quite doing
what he was supposed to be doing out there. But
he Oliver Lazer did say that he'd made a mistake
by switching to a three five too, because he felt
that he felt that, you know, that didn't work, and
of course that caused further problems for us buzz conceding
the other goals. So it's good. It's good that he's
omitted the fact that he made a mistake with that.
(05:51):
Some people are surprised by what he said about Jean
Fitte Matteta, but I think he's being honest. I think,
you know, he just said, you know, I substituted him
because he wasn't quite doing it, and I think that's
fair enough. But but yeah, so I think there were
little things like that, little tweaks which did work out.
I think the fact that we weren't one hundred percent
didn't work out. The fact that we've met Manchester City
(06:15):
on a bit of an upper course as well didn't help,
because man City played well, you know, their counter attacks
were really good, and even though it wasn't necessarily or
one way traffic, we did try and get forward. You
look at the goals and we were a little bit
all over the place at the back, and we weren't
really a set, weren't really a set, weren't really as
(06:36):
regimented as we have been before. And I think part
of that is because of the whole situation with the
injuries that we've had and things like that. Not that
we're looking for excuses, but I think that's probably one
of the reasons you could you could say about it.
And also, of course, you know we're not going to
win every game. You know, if we did, that would
be league champions and that's not going to happen. We haven't.
You know, we're not going to be winning the Premier
(06:58):
League yere, So losses against big teams are unfortunately going
to happen. Our last big loss was to Arsenal. This
is Manchester City, so you know these are two teams
where if you're going to have a big loss, it's
probably going to be to a team like that. So
you know, there are there were issues surrounding the game,
(07:20):
and I think it's probably best that we just kind
of draw a line under it and move on to
the next game. We've got a couple of really tough
games coming up, and so I think that we're going
to be We're going to need to be back on
our front foot again. As I said, we haven't quite
been hitting our strides in the last few games, so
I'm hoping that this will give us a bit of
a knee up and get us refocused on what we
(07:43):
need to do. So I'm hoping that's going to be
the case. I mean, whether Jean Miteta is maybe the
head thing is distracting him or putting him off, or
maybe he's just not quite got the confidence going in
for those duels anymore at the moment because of what happened,
I don't know. But anyway, he's still scoring goals, so
I think that it's it's not all a big loss
(08:04):
for him. And so yeah, that's how I think about
the game. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it
as well, what you thought about the game and how
you felt it went. I'm going to quickly address the
rumor that's going around about Oliver Glazna going to either
i'll be Leipzig or Tottenham Hotspur. I haven't seen anything
(08:28):
about it that would make me believe it's going to happen.
You know, there's one newspaper in Germany that was talking
about him going to Tottenham, but apparently did I did
read a Spurs a Spurs paper or a Spurs website
that said that isn't going to happen because Oliver Glads
doesn't renegotiating his contract with Crystal Palace, which I think
(08:50):
is probably going to happen. I can't see him going
to Spurs. I think that he you know, he's I
think he's happy at Crystal Planets. I think he's going
to stay. But I say, I haven't heard any rumors
that suggest it's actually going to happen, or is any
he's always going to leave, So I would say it's
all a bit of paper talk at the moment and
nothing really to worry about. But anyway, let me know
your thoughts down in the comment section. As always, I'd
(09:12):
love to hear them, and I hope you're doing well
and I'll see you next time.
