Jesus Christ. One story is worse than the other. And
as much as we think we are prepared, we still
seem to be two steps behind. Scammers, those people who
(09:47):
use every trick in the book to convince us to
hand over life savings, a pension, large sums of money
because of an emergency. Artificial intelligence is now being used
by scammers to mimic our own voices, so our families
think it's actually us who are the ones calling them
(10:10):
for help. The path of disruption and heartache that scamming
has created has made us more vigilant, more alert, But
the one thing that tricks us is the masterful ways
that scammers can deceive us, and the more they lead
(10:30):
us on, the closer they come to successfully cause us
to act. Jesus warns us today to not simply be
aware of the exterior dangers that threaten us, which was
a real threat to the people who were who lived
in the time of Luke's gospel. But the deception that
(10:54):
Jesus is most concerned about is not to be deceived
in doing wrong, but the deception of thinking that we
are doing something right even when it comes to our faith.
Do not be deceived, he says, do not follow them.
And to drive the point home, Jesus uses the temple
(11:17):
being the biggest building that they probably ever saw, and
the one person who is not impressed with the grandeur
and the opulence of the temple is Jesus. What was
a sight to behold for the other people became for
(11:37):
Jesus a sign of destruction. Not because Jesus wanted to
see the place fall down and cause disaster, but because
the temple was not living up to what it was
meant to do. Its purpose was for the honor and
glory of God, and it was not bearing that fruit anymore.

The opulent building became the primary focus, not God, who
dwelt in that temple, who freed his people from slavery.
The deception that Jesus warns us against is the internal forces,
namely our inability to discern what is of God and

what is not. This is not simply a warning but
an invitation to bear witness to our faith by being
attentive to the task at hand of carrying our crosses
on a daily basis and following Jesus with perseverance and
resolve that no matter what threatens us with deception or
(12:46):
overtakes us, will never ever be more powerful than our
confidence in God's protection and his love. Thank you, Lord
for all those perseverings souls, those people who remain an
example to us of your persevering love. So may our
(13:08):
perseverance then build a temple of praise and honor to
You now and forever. I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
