Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass and
Ministry of the Passionist Community. It is August seventeenth, the
twentieth Sunday of Ordinary Time. Today is a sponsored mass
and the sponsor of sponsors of our Mass are Michael
and Deborah Cunningham, and their special intentions are the Cunningham

(01:45):
and Madden families. So I ask you to keep them
in your prayers. Our celebrant today is Father Jim, the
pastor here at the Immaculate Conception Parish. So if you're
using a prayer guide, turn to the beginning of mass.
Let us speak in our celebration, h.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
God, to look in no night.

Speaker 7 (02:15):
See your Father's your money, all my shah, see time,
all ham see all hamness your say name, fast time yours.

(02:41):
It's Talm the Blas.

Speaker 8 (02:47):
In the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit. The Lord be with you
and your spirit, My sisters and brothers. With our eyes
fixed on Jesus, we asked him now to fill us
with the gift of his mercy and peace. Lord Jesus,
you defend your people in times of distress. Lord have mercy.

(03:10):
Lord Christ, Jesus, you protect us with the cloud of
witnesses who intercede for us with all the saints.

Speaker 9 (03:19):
Christ, have mercy.

Speaker 8 (03:22):
Lord Jesus, you perfect our faith with your forgiveness and healing. Lord,
have mercy.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
Lord.

Speaker 8 (03:31):
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our
sins and bring us to everlasting life. Let us pray,
Oh God, who have prepared for those who love you
good things which no eye can see fill our hearts.

(03:51):
We pray with the warmth of your love, so that
loving you in all things and above all things, we
may attain your promises which surpass every human desire. We
ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who

(04:11):
lives and reigns with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.

Speaker 10 (04:19):
Amen.

Speaker 11 (04:20):
A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah. In
those days, the princess said to the king, Jeremiah ought
to be put to death. He is demoralizing the soldiers
who are left in this city and all the people

(04:40):
by speaking such things to them. He is not interested
in the welfare of our people, but in their ruin.
King Zadekiah answered, he is in your power. For the
king could do nothing with them. So they took Jeremiah

(05:01):
and threw him into the cistern of Prince Malkare, which
was in the quarters of the God.

Speaker 12 (05:10):
Letting him down with ropes.

Speaker 11 (05:13):
There was no water in the cistern, only mud, and
Jeremiah sunk into the mud. A bed Melek, a court official,
went there from the palace and said to him, my

(05:34):
lord King, these men have been at fault in all
they have done to the Prophet Jeremiah, casting him into
the cistern. He will die of farmine on the spot,
for there is no more food in the city.

Speaker 12 (05:53):
Then the king.

Speaker 11 (05:54):
Ordered a bed Melek, the Kushite, to take three men
along with him and draw the Prophet Jeremiah out of
the system before he should die.

Speaker 12 (06:09):
The word of the Lord.

Speaker 6 (06:24):
Lord came to my hed.

Speaker 12 (06:32):
It come to my.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Lord, call to.

Speaker 10 (06:50):
I waited.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
I waited for the Lord, and he stood down to me.
He you heard my cry.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
To line.

Speaker 12 (07:31):
Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews.

Speaker 11 (07:35):
Brothers and sisters, Since we are surrounded by so great
a cloud of witnesses, let us read ourselves of every
burden and sin that clings to us, and persevere in
running the race that lies before us, while keeping our

(07:58):
eyes fixed on Jesus, the Leader and perfector of faith.

Speaker 12 (08:06):
For the sake of the joy that lay before him.
He endured the cross.

Speaker 11 (08:13):
Despising his shame, and has taken his seat at the
right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured
such opposition from sinners. In order that you may not
go weary and lose heart in your struggle against sin.

(08:38):
You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood.

Speaker 10 (08:46):
The word of the Lord.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
Ahlylu Llu.

Speaker 9 (09:19):
The Lord be with you.

Speaker 10 (09:22):
Reading from the Holy Gospel.

Speaker 8 (09:24):
According to Luke, Jesus said to his disciples, I have
come to set the earth on fire, and how I
wish it were already blazing. There is a baptism with
which I must be baptized, And how great is my

(09:45):
anguish until it is accomplished. Do you think that I
have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I
tell you, but rather division. From now on, A household
of five will be divided three against two and two

(10:06):
against three. A father will be divided against his son,
and a son against his father. A mother against her daughter,
and a daughter against her mother. A mother in law
against her daughter in law, and a daughter in law
against her mother in law.

Speaker 9 (10:27):
The Gospel of the Lords Lord Jesus.

Speaker 8 (10:32):
Chris, Do you think that I have come to establish
peace on the earth. We hear it all the time
in the scriptures. People like Jeremiah the Prophet and Jesus
become disturbers of the peace. Someone tries to do good

(10:52):
and to remind others what their responsibilities are, and it
causes division. Jeremiah the prophet is attacked for calling out
the destructiveness of the Babylonian king. Jesus begins to preach
and to heal and to feed people. Some were shocked,

(11:13):
others were appalled at his nerve. They thought in equating
himself with God, what Jesus did was to help people
to look at life through the lens of their worth
before God. Jesus's message was universal, but his values brought division,

(11:37):
and for the most part, the ones who were the
most upset with Jesus's preaching and teaching were religious people.
What he strived to accomplish was to help us to
separate ourselves from anything that would be seen as a
roadblock or barrier to a full life with God. We

(12:00):
saw it over again that those who have a questionable
past in the Gospel, they always saw themselves as separated
from God with no chance of return or communion. The
prodigal son thought his father would only bring him back

(12:21):
if he worked as one of his hired hands. Zikius
climbed a tree not only because he was short, but
because his profession caused hardship and bitterness. The ten Lepers
thought life as they knew it was over. They were
too restricted no future existed, and so rattled were they

(12:43):
by Jesus curing them that nine even forgot to thank
Jesus for the healing. Jesus is asking us to keep
our eyes fixed on him because he is our model,
the one who goes before us, the prefector of faith,
whose life, ministry, passion, death, and resurrection keeps us at

(13:06):
peace with him.

Speaker 9 (13:08):
He's the one who.

Speaker 8 (13:09):
Can help us to separate ourselves from the past that
has caused harm to us or others, and be reconciled
and healed.

Speaker 9 (13:19):
He is the one who can take.

Speaker 8 (13:20):
What tears us apart and bring peace and acceptance, and
help us to carry our cross with hope, faith and confidence.
When we feel separated from others because we know that
our Christian values are contrary to what some may see
as unimportant or of no value, The Lord himself brings

(13:43):
us peace, knowing that God's will is for us to
be one with Him, with all creation and with one another,
my sisters and brothers. The Lord's eyes are fixed on us,
giving us the daily.

Speaker 10 (13:59):
Bread that we need to be one with Him and
one another.

Speaker 8 (14:03):
To be a follower of Jesus is meant to make
us take a definite direction. It's a step towards a
step forward. To help us to encounter Christ in his
fullness and keep our eyes open to the wonders of
His love. Lord, come to our aid. Help us to
keep our eyes fixed on You, the perfector of our faith,

(14:28):
so your word may be fulfilled.

Speaker 10 (14:35):
With fervent prayer.

Speaker 8 (14:37):
Let us place our needs before our Loving God today.

Speaker 11 (14:42):
Our response is, Lord, hear our prayer. We pray that
the grace of God's goodness will empower us with the
fire of Christ's love to proclaim the Gospel by the
way we live our life.

Speaker 12 (15:00):
We pray to the Lord.

Speaker 11 (15:04):
We pray for the sponsor of our mask today, Michael
and Deborah Cunningham, and for their intentions, the Cunningham and
Madden families.

Speaker 12 (15:17):
We pray to the Lord.

Speaker 11 (15:21):
We pray for the intentions of our benefactors, the intentions
of our Sunday Mass faith community that will be placed
next to the altar, and for St of Miracles, Saint Anthony.

Speaker 12 (15:37):
For whom we pray in a special way at this Mass.
We pray to the.

Speaker 8 (15:42):
Lord, Loving God, you never forsake your people. Hear our
prayers and respond to them out of your conditional love.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Speaker 13 (15:59):
Amen, my soul cries out with the joyful shop and
the God of my money.

Speaker 7 (16:15):
Is great, and my speerits scene from the one resting
a shall bring to the one who wait.

Speaker 6 (16:23):
You're a FASTI aside on the service, and I read
miss it in much fur so for me to wish,
Shall my baby.

Speaker 7 (16:33):
The world be about tout by horse shall sing of
the tak when the farman is a desper, when the
we autis for the don Johney, and the world is
about to tell by our saucy.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
On a day you ring, let the fimm you're just
desper when the we artis for the dog Dorothy.

Speaker 8 (17:12):
Sisters and brothers pray that my sacrifice in yours will
be acceptable to God, the Almighty and merciful Father.

Speaker 13 (17:21):
Sacrifice at our hands for the praise and the lawyers.

Speaker 8 (17:27):
Church, Lord, receive our oblation by which is brought about
a glorious exchange, that by offering what you have given,
we may merit to receive your very self. And we
ask this through Christ our Lord. The Lord be with you,

(17:48):
and lift up your hearts.

Speaker 6 (17:51):
We lift them out to the Lord.

Speaker 8 (17:53):
Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. It
is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation
always and everywhere. To give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father,
Almighty and Eternal God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. For
out of compassion for the waywardness that is ours, he

(18:17):
humbled himself and was born of the Virgin Mary. By
the passion of the cross, he freed us from unending death,
and by rising from the dead he gave us life eternal.
And so with the angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions,

(18:37):
and with all the hosts and powers of heaven, we
sing the Hymn of Your glory, for as without end
we acclaim.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Your wordy b.

Speaker 6 (19:08):
Less it is he see that name of that.

Speaker 8 (19:22):
You are indeed holy, O Lord, the font of all holiness,
Make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by sending down
your spirit upon them like the d fall, so that
they may become for us the body and blood of
our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he was betrayed

(19:45):
and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and
giving thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying,
take this all of you, and eat of it. For
this is my body, which will be given up for you.

(20:15):
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took
the chalice, and, once more, giving thanks, he gave it
to his disciples, saying, take this all of you, and
drink from it.

Speaker 9 (20:28):
For this is the chalice of.

Speaker 8 (20:31):
My blood, the blood of the New and eternal Covenant,
which will be poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.

Speaker 10 (20:43):
Do this in memory of me, the myster riofair.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
Seem Us sacs.

Speaker 10 (21:13):
You sat Us. See.

Speaker 8 (21:18):
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of His death and resurrection,
we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the
Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly.
We pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,

(21:42):
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Lord.
Remember your Church spread throughout the world, and bring her
to the fullness of charity. Together with Leo our Pope,
and Robert our Biship and all the clergy. Remember also

(22:04):
our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the
hope of the resurrection, and all who have died in
Your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.

Speaker 9 (22:16):
Have mercy on us all.

Speaker 8 (22:18):
We pray that with Mary, the most blessed Virgin Mother
of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with the blessed Apostles,
with Saint Paul of the Cross, and all the saints
who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit
to be co heirs to eternal life, and may praise

(22:38):
and glorify you through your son Jesus Christ, through him
man with him and in him, Oh God, Almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit. All glory and

(23:01):
honor is yours, forever andver. At the Savior's command and

(23:24):
formed by divine teaching, we dare to say, our Father,
who are in Heaven, followed, be thy name, thy Kingdom,
come by will be done honor earth as it is
in Heaven.

Speaker 10 (23:38):
Give us this day our.

Speaker 8 (23:40):
Daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
those who trespass against us.

Speaker 10 (23:48):
Lead us not into temptation.

Speaker 12 (23:51):
But deliver us.

Speaker 10 (23:53):
Deliver us.

Speaker 8 (23:54):
Lord, we pray from every evil and graciously grant peace
in our day, that by the help of your mercy
we may be always free from sin and safe from
all distress as we await the blessed hope and the
coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Speaker 12 (24:16):
For the kingdom and the power are yours.

Speaker 8 (24:19):
Now, Lord, Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles peace,
I leave you. My peace is my gift to you. Lord,
Look not in our sins, but look on the faith
of your people, the Church, and graciously grant her peace
and unity in accordance with your will. Where you live

(24:39):
and reign forever and ever. The peace of the Lord
be with you always. Let us share that peace now
with one another. Lamb of God, you take away the
sins of the world.

Speaker 9 (24:58):
Have mercy on us.

Speaker 10 (25:00):
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.

Speaker 9 (25:04):
Have mercy on us.

Speaker 10 (25:05):
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.

Speaker 9 (25:09):
Grant us peace.

Speaker 8 (25:16):
Behold the Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away
the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to
the supper of the Lamb.

Speaker 9 (25:28):
Lord.

Speaker 8 (25:28):
I am not worthy, but only say the word I mean,
my soul shall be healed.
