Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass, a
ministry of the Passionist Community. It is November twenty third,
the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe.
Today is a sponsored mass and the sponsor of our
mass is Legardasquez Vasquez and her special intention is her
(02:38):
husband Guil Vasquez. So I'd ask you to keep Legarda
and Ville Guil in your prayers today. If you have
a prayer guide, take it out. Turn to the beginning
of Mass. And now let us begin our celebration in
the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
(03:01):
the Love of God, the communion of the Holy Spirit,
be with all of you as we come together to
celebrate this mystery of our faith. Let us first pause
and prepare our hearts for this moment, this encounter with God,
by asking forgiveness. Lord, have mercy, Lord Christ, Have mercy, Christ, Lord,
(03:27):
have mercy. Lord. May Almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins and bring us all to the
gift of everlasting life. And let us pray, Almighty, ever
Living God, whose will is to restore all things in
your beloved son, the King of the universe, grant we
(03:49):
pray that the whole creation, set free from slavery, may
render your majestic service and ceaselessly proclaim your praise through
our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns
with you in unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever
and ever.
Speaker 8 (04:11):
A reading from the Second Book of Samuel. In those days,
all the tribes of Israel came to David and Hebron
and said here we are your bone and your flesh.
In days past, when Saul was our king, it was
you who led the Israelites out and brought them back.
(04:32):
And the Lord said to you, you shall shepherd my
people Israel, and shall be commander of Israel. When all
the elders of Israel came to David in hebron, King,
David made an agreement with them there before the Lord,
and they anointed him King of Israel.

Speaker 8 (05:53):
Lord, reading from the letter of Paul the Colossians, brothers
and sisters, let us give thanks to the Father who
has made you fit to share in the inheritance of
the Holy Ones in light. He delivered us from the
(06:14):
power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of
his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness
of sins. He is the image of the invisible God,
the first born of all creation, For in him were
created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible
(06:37):
and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions, or principalities or powers,
all things were created through him and for him. He
is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Speaker 9 (06:55):
He is the head of the body the Church.
Speaker 8 (06:58):
He is the beginning, the first born from the dead,
that in all things he himself might be pre eminent.
For in him all the fullness was pleased to dwell,
and through him to reconcile all things for him, making
peace by the blood of his cross. Through him, whether
(07:23):
those on earth are those in heaven, the word of
the Lord, see to God.
Speaker 10 (07:33):
Alua aluya alu ya.
Speaker 7 (07:48):
Aluia Allah.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
The Lord be with you, and reading from the Holy
Gospel according to Luke, Glory to you Lord. The rulers
sneered at Jesus and said, he saved others, let him
save himself. If he is the chosen one, the Christ
(08:21):
of God. Even the soldiers jeered at him as they
approached to offer him wine. They called out, if you
are the King of the Jews, save yourself. Above him
there was an inscription that read, the king, this is
the King of the Jews. Now one of the criminals
(08:46):
hanging there, revowed Jesus, saying, are you not the Christ?
Save yourself and us? The other, however, rebuked him in reply,
have you no fear of God? For you are subject
to the same condemnation. And indeed we have been condemned justly,
(09:13):
for the sentence we receive corresponds to our crimes. But
this man has done nothing criminal. And then he said, Jesus,
remember me when you come into your kingdom. And Jesus
replied to him, a man, I say to you today,
(09:38):
you will be with me in Paradise the Gospel of
the Lord, Lord Jesus Christ. Probably for many years, I
(10:00):
I've gotten to this moment on this feast and said,
you know, gee, I have a hard time connecting because
of not growing up in a reality of king in life.
I've read about them, I've reflected on them, I've learned
(10:21):
about them, but I've never lived within a kingdom. But
this year, as I reflected on our readings, I sort
of took a different track. I guess I'm trying not
to be negative anymore, and I wanted to think in
a positive way. And what I did is I looked
at each of those readings and I found a little
(10:44):
picture of what kingship in terms of Jesus is all about.
In that first reading from Samuel, what we have is
a moment in time when the Israelites were very divided, unfamiliar,
a moment in time when they were divided, and David,
(11:05):
a shepherd boy, is raised up as a shepherd king
to bring the two opposing sides together and to sort
of raise Israel up in a splendid way amongst all
the other nations. Now, the important part of that picture
(11:26):
is shepherd. That's who Jesus isn't He's from the line
of David. But he doesn't come in as a warrior,
as a soldiers, a political leader. He comes in as
a shepherd king and invites us to take on his
flesh and bone to become the body of Christ. Second reading,
(11:52):
more of a theological bend. You might say, Saint Paul,
reflecting on Christ coming into the world wided, the Father
send him to reconcile the world, to bring the world
together again, and so Christ becomes the center of who
(12:13):
we are. He becomes the good shepherd that is taking
care of his flock, the church. And then finally we
have Luke and Luke doesn't go down the political path
or the theological path. Luke presents to us Jesus as
(12:33):
the human shepherd. You know, Pope Francis, early on in
his time as pope, gave a talk to priest and
he told the priest, you know you're going to be
shepherds of communities, pastors, but he used the word shepherd,
and he said, you have to take on the smell
(12:54):
of your sheep. And I think if we really reflect
on Jesus's life in all of the scriptures, that's what
Jesus did. He took on the smell of us, took
on the smell of tax collectors and scribes and pharisees
and lepers. He took on the smell of friends who
(13:17):
ran away at the most important moment of his life,
who betrayed him. Jesus always was part of whoever he encountered.
He never pushed anyone aside, he never disconnected anyone. He
always brought them together. He was the shepherd king, or
(13:42):
he is the shepherd king. He is the body of
Christ that he invites us into. He is the person
that offers mercy and compassion, and forgiveness and most importantly love.
It's a different way of seeing a king, and perhaps
(14:05):
what we celebrate today is that gift, that person who
has made God visible to us and allowed us to
live our journey of faith knowing that He's always there,
that he's always willing to offer that compassion, that forgiveness,
and that love that brings us to the eternal kingdom
(14:31):
of eternal life. As we celebrate the humanity and love
of Christ, our King, we join our voices with all
the voices of the Church in asking God to hear
our prayers.
Speaker 8 (14:48):

special way for Mary Grace Carpinelli, the intention for this

Speaker 8 (15:18):

We pray to the Lord Lord.
Speaker 2 (15:33):

things in your beloved son Jesus. Here are prayers through Christ,
Our Lord.

Speaker 4 (16:59):

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Friends in faith, pray that my sacrifice in yours may
be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father, the Lord. Accept
the sacrifice of our hands with the grace and glory
of His name, for our good and the good of
all this Holy Church. As we offer you, o Lord,
the sacrifice by which the human race is reconciled. To you,
(17:31):
we humbly pray that your son himself may bestow on
all nations the gift of unity and peace. Through Christ,
Our Lord, the Lord be with you and with your spirits.
Lift up your hearts, and let us give thanks to
the Lord. Our God is truly right and just, our
(17:53):
duty and our salvation always and everywhere. To give you thanks, Lord,
Holy Father, Almighty and eternal God, for you anointed your
only begotten son, our Lord Jesus Christ, with the oil
of gladness, as eternal priest and King of all creation,
so that by offering himself on the altar of the
(18:14):
Cross as a spotless sacrifice to bring us peace, he
might accomplish the mysteries of human redemption, and making all
created things subject to his rule. He might present to
the immensity of Your majesty an eternal and universal kingdom,
(18:37):
a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness
and grace, a kingdom of justice, love and peace. And so,
with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, with all
the hosts and powers of heaven, we sing the hymn
of Your Glory, as without end we acclaim.
Speaker 7 (19:05):
God Us, he loved lesssy who comes in the name of.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
As You are indeed holy, Oh Lord, the fonto of
all holiness, Make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by
sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall,
so that they may become for us the body and
(19:47):
blood of your son, our Lord Jesus Christ. At the
time that Jesus was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion.
He took bread, and, giving thanks, broke it, gave it
to his disciples, saying, take this all of you, and
(20:08):
eat of it, for this is my body which will
be given up for you. In a similar way, when
supper was ended, he took the chalice, once more, giving thanks,
(20:31):
he gave it to his disciples, saying, take this all
of you and drink from it, for this is the
chalice of my blood, the blood of the New and
eternal Covenant, which will be poured out for you and
for many, for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in
memory of me, the mystery of faith, save savor.
Speaker 7 (21:12):
World for your cross center st.
Speaker 5 (21:19):
You Sasu.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of His death and resurrection,
we offer you Lord, the bread of life and the
Chalice of Salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly.
We pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord,
(21:46):
your Church spread throughout the world, bring her to the
fullness of charity. Together with France, with Leo, our Pope,
and Robert, to our Bishop, and all whom you call
to the ministries and service and mission of your church.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep
in the hope of the resurrection, all who have died
(22:08):
in your mercy, welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
All.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and
all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may marry to be coeres to eternal life, and
may praise and glorify you through your son Jesus Christ,
(22:38):
Through him and with him and in Him, Oh God,
Almighty Father, and Unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory
and honor is yours, forever and ever. At the Savior's command.
(23:08):
Informed by divine teaching, we humbly pray our Father, who
art in Heaven. Hallod be thy name, Thy Kingdom. Come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us
our tressses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
(23:31):
Lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil, Graciously grant
peace in our days, that by the help of your
mercy we may be always free from sin. Say from
all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the
coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Lord, Jesus Christ,
(23:57):
you said to your apostles peace. I leave you my peace.
I give you. Look not on our sins, but look
on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her
peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live
and reign forever and ever. The Peace of the Lord
be with you always. Let us share that peace with
(24:21):
one another. Lamb of God, you take away the sins
of the world. Have mercy on us. Lamb of God,
you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy
on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins
(24:42):
of the world. Grant us peace. Behold the Lamb of God.
Behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those call to the supper of the Lamb. Lord,
(25:03):
I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof,
But only say the word, and my soul shall be healed, true.
Speaker 7 (25:22):

with you. And may our good and gracious God bless
