Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass, a
ministry of the Passionist Community. It is November thirtieth, the
first Sunday of Advent and the first Sunday in our
New Prayer Guide Volume one oh seven. Our celebrant today
is Father Robert from our Pelham, New York community, and

(01:40):
today is a sponsored mass. And the sponsors of our
mass are Kathleen and Joan Boylin, and their special intention
for the mass today is that we pray in memory
of their parents, Philip and Joan, and their siblings Christine.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Philip and Patrick Boylan.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
So please keep them all in your prayer as we
celebrate today.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
So if you have your new prayer guide, take it.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
In the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit. The Lord be with you,
brothers and sisters. Let us acknowledge our sins and so
prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries. Lord Jesus, you
raise us to new life. Lord, have mercy.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
Lord, have mercy.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Lord Jesus, you forgive us our sins. Christ, have mercy. Christ,
Lord Jesus, you feed us with your body and blood. Lord,
have mercy.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Lord, Lord, have mercy.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our
sins and bring us to everlasting life. Let us pray
grant you are faithful. We pray, Almighty God, the resolve
to run forth to meet your Christ with righteous deeds
at his coming, so that gathered at His right hand,

(03:47):
they may be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom through
our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son who lives and reigns
with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God
forever and.

Speaker 8 (03:59):
Ever are reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
This is what Isaiah, son of Amas saw concerning Judah
and Jerusalem. In days to come, the mountain of the
Lord's House shall be established as the highest mountain and

(04:19):
raised above the hills. All nations shall stream toward it.
Many peoples shall come and say, come, let us climb
the Lord's mountain to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may instruct us in his ways, and we
may walk in his paths. For from Zion shall go

(04:41):
forth instruction and the word of the Lord. From Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations and impose terms on
many peoples. They shall beat their swords into plowshares and
their spears into pruning hooks. One nation shall not raise

(05:02):
the sword against another, nor shall they train for war again,
O House of Jacob, Come, let us walk in the
light of the Lord, the word of the Lord.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Thanks be to God.

Speaker 6 (05:30):
Met U scory, joicey.

Speaker 7 (05:35):
To house.

Speaker 9 (05:43):
Sorry, joys, I rejoice when they said to me, let
us go to the house of a.

Speaker 10 (05:58):
Long And now our feet are standing within.

Speaker 9 (06:04):
The your gates, Oh, Jerusalem.

Speaker 6 (06:12):
Story choice.

Speaker 8 (06:16):
To reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.

(06:40):
Brothers and sisters, you know the time. It is the
hour now for you to wake from sleep. For our
salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The
night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us
throw off the works of darkness and put on the

(07:02):
armor of light. Let us conduct ourselves properly as in
the day, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in promiscurity
and lust, not in rivalry and jealousy. But put on
the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the

(07:23):
desires of the flesh. The word of the Lord.

Speaker 9 (07:36):
Allah Yeah Alayah, Layah.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Lloyd be with you, reading from the Holy Gospel according
to Matthew, to you, O, Lord Jesus said to his disciples,
as it was in the days of Noah, so it
will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
In those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking,

(08:20):
and marrying and giving in marriage up to the day
that Noah entered the ark. They did not know until
the flood came and carried them all away. So will
it be also at the coming of the Son of Man.
To men will be out in the field, one will
be taken and one will be left. Two women will

(08:42):
be grinding at the mill, one will be taken and
one will be left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do
not know on which day your Lord will come. Be
sure of this. If the master of the house had
known the hour of night when the thief was coming,

(09:03):
he would have stayed awake and not let his house
be broken into. So too, you also must be prepared
for at an hour you do not expect, the son
of man will come. My sisters, my brothers, the Gospel
of the Lord, which so the year was nineteen seventy seven.

(09:37):
I was getting ready to be ordained a priest, and
right here in this chapel we were training. And the
person that was helping me the most was a nun
named sister Irene Sweeney. She was a lot older than

(09:58):
I was. She was a lot of fun. I'm a great,
great person, and she taught me a lot. And I
guess the week before you know, I was to be ordained,
she took me out to eat, you know, like nice
white tablecloth and everything, and she put one hand on
my hand and she said, Bob, she says, before you
get ordained, I have to tell you something I said,

(10:20):
what is that, Irene? She says, Sometimes Bob, celibacy is
going to be difficult. I said, no kidding, Irene, she says.
So here's a little trick, she says, Always make sure
that you have a little night light on in your
room and a little soft music and a good book

(10:40):
on your bed table. This way you'll always feel like
you're coming home to somebody. And I've done it ever since.
I think this is why advent is about, you know,
the this is a beautiful season of candles being lit

(11:02):
in the darkness, waiting for somebody to be home or
to take us home. You know, waiting is sort of
I don't know. It's a lot about love, isn't it.
I Mean, we wait for so many things. We wait
for love to come to us. We wait for somebody

(11:24):
to love that we love to come home. Maybe we
wait for a visit. If you're in a nursing home
right now, or you're in a hospital or home alone
and you're just waiting for that one person to come
and visit, and it makes everything so much better. So

(11:45):
much about love is waiting. And sometimes we even have
to wait for ourselves, don't we We have to wait
for ourselves, maybe to heal or to mourn, or to
be at peace. Don't we all wait in our world
for an end to war and end to violence, all

(12:08):
those things that we can pray for in confidence that
someone's home, someone's looking after us, somebody is going to
take us, you know, to where we need to be.
So in this season now, as we begin to sing,
Oh Come all you faithful, well maybe it's also, oh

(12:33):
come all you unfaithful, or Oh come all you trying
the best we can. Or come all of us who
are wounded and broken. Come all of us who are lonely,
and we'll find our peace, and we'll find our home

(12:53):
in the Christ too is to come. Will your advent
be full of blessing. I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty,

(13:16):
Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten
Son of God, born of the Father before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light, True God, from true God, begotten,
not made consubstantial with the Father. Through him all things

(13:38):
were made for us and for our salvation. He came
down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate
of the Virgin Mary and became man for our sake.
He was crucified under Punchius Pilot. He suffered death and
was buried, and rose again on the third day, in
accordance with the scriptures, he ascended into heaven and is

(14:02):
seated at the right hand of the Father. He will
come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in
the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who
proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the
Father and the Son, is adored and glorified, who has
spoken through the prophets. I believe in one Holy Catholic

(14:26):
and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism or the forgiveness
of sins, and I look forward to the resurrection of
the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Walking in the light of the Lord, we place our
prayers and needs in God's faithful hands.

Speaker 8 (14:46):
Our response is Lord hear our prayer. We pray in
a special way for Thomas and Mary Kane, the intention
for this mass today. We pray to the Lord Lord,
thanksgiving for the sponsors of our mass today, Kathleen and
Joan Boylan and we pray in memory of Phil and Joan,

(15:08):
their parents, and Christine, Philip and Patrick Boylan, their siblings.
We pray to the Lord Lord. We pray for the
intentions of our benefactors, the intentions of our Sunday Mass
faith community that will be placed next to the altar,
and for all who are in need of prayer during
this most holy season.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
We pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer, God
of Peace, help us to remain awake, alert and ready,
and please accept our prayers, especially those you find in
our hearts through Christ our Lord.

Pray, sisters and brothers, that my sacrifice and yours may

Speaker 6 (17:10):

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Except we pray, o Lord, these offerings we make gathered
from among your gifts to us, and may what you
grant us to celebrate devoutly here below gain for us
the prize of eternal redemption. Through Christ, our Lord.

Speaker 11 (17:33):
The.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Lord be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us
give thanks to the Lord, our God. It is truly
right and just our duty and our salvation always and
everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and
Eternal God, through Christ, our Lord. For he assumed that

(17:57):
his first coming the lowliness of human flesh, and so
fulfilled the design you formed long ago, and open for
us the way to eternal salvation. That when He comes
again in glory and majesty and all is at last
made manifest, we who watch for that day may inherit

(18:19):
the great promise in which now we dare to hope.
And so, with angels and dark angels, with thrones and dominions,
and with all the hosts and powers of heaven, we
sing the hymn of Your Glory, as without end we acclaim.

Speaker 6 (18:44):
Lord, God, Heaven, glory O.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Conn You are indeed holy, oh Lord, the fount of
all holiness. Make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by
sending down your spirit upon them like the dew fall,
so that they may become for us the body and

(19:21):
blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time he
was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and,
giving thanks, broken and gave it to his disciples, saying,
take this all of you, and eat of it, for
this is my body which will be given up for you.

(19:49):
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took
the chalice, and, once more, giving thanks, he gave it
to his disciple, saying, take this all of you, and
drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood,
the blood of the New and eternal Covenant, which will
be poured out for you and for many for the

(20:10):
forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me, the
mistery of.

Speaker 7 (20:30):
Save us your.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
Love world a lie across and as our rection you sense.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of His death and resurrection,
we offer you Lord, the bread of life and the
chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly.
We pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord,

(21:08):
your church spread throughout the world and bring her to
the fullness of charity. Together with Leo our Pope, and
Robert our Bishop, and all the clergy. Remember also our
brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope
of the resurrection, and all who have died in your
mercy welcomed them into the light of your face. Have

(21:32):
mercy on us all. We pray that with the blessed
Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse,
with the blessed Apostles, and all the saints who have
pleased you throughout the ages, we may merit to be
co heirs to eternal life, and may praise and glorify
you through your son Jesus Christ, Through him and with

(21:56):
him and in him, O God Almighty, in the unity
of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever,
anderver and now. At the Savior's command and form. By

(22:28):
divine teaching, we dare to say, our Father, who arts
in heaven, Hello, be thy name, thy Kingdom. Come, Thy
will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us
our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us

(22:50):
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Deliver us, Lord, we pray from every evil. Graciously grant
peace in our days, that by the help of your
mercy we may be always free from sin and safe
from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and
the coming of our savior, Jesus Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ,

(23:18):
who set to your apostles peace. I leave you my peace.
I give you look not on our sins, but on
the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace
and unity and accordance with your will. Who live and
reign forever and ever. Peace of the Lord be with
you always. Just offer each other a sign of peace.

(23:46):
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world.
