Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass, a
ministry of the Passionate Community. It is August thirty first,
the twenty second Sunday of ordinary Time.
Speaker 7 (02:52):
So if you're using a prayer guide, turn.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
To the beginning of Mass, and let us speak in
our celebration. The name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit. The grace of our Lord,
Jesus Christ, the Love of God, the communion of the
Holy Spirit, be with all of you. And as we
gather this today to celebrate the gift of Eucharist, let
(03:16):
us pause and prepare our hearts for our encounter with
God at this moment by asking forgiveness. Lord, have mercy,
Lord Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May Almighty God
have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring
us all to the gift of everlasting life.
Speaker 7 (03:39):
And let us pray, God of Might and giver of
good gift.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Put into our hearts the love of your name, so
that by deepening our sense of reverence, you may nurture
in us what is good. And by your watchful care,
keep safe what you have nurtured through our Lord, Jesus Christ,
your son, who lives and reigns with you in unity
(04:09):
of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
A reading from the Book of Sirac, My child, Conduct
your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more
than a giver of gifts. Humbled yourself the more the
greater you are, and you will find favor with God.
What is too sublime for you. Seek not into things
(04:37):
beyond your strength. Search not. The mind of a sage
appreciates proverbs, and an attentive ear is the joy of
the wise. Water quenches a flaming fire, and alms atone
for sins. The word of the Lord.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
Thanks meed to God.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
God.
Speaker 8 (05:11):
In your coness you have made a home for the poop.
Speaker 6 (05:21):
God. In your coess you a hall for the all.
Speaker 9 (05:31):
The just shall rejoice at the presence of God. We
shall exult with glad, rejoicing. Oh, sing to God, Make
muse it to his name.
Speaker 8 (05:46):
The Lord is His name, God, in your corness, you
made of all, are.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Reading from the Letter to the Hebrews, brothers and sisters.
You have not approached that which could be touched. And
a blazing fire, and gloomy darkness and storm, and a
trumpet blast, and a voice speaking words such that those
who heard begged that no message be further addressed to them. No,
(06:38):
you have approached Mount Zion and the City of the
Living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels, and festal
gathering and the assembly of the first born enrolled in Heaven,
and God the judge of all, and the spirits of
the just made perfect, and Jesus the mediator of the
(07:01):
New Covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently
than that of Abel the word of the Lord.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Thanks to God, Ahlua alua aluaa.
Speaker 7 (07:46):
The Lord be with you. A reading from the Holy Gospel.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
According to Luke, on a Sabbath, Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and
the people there were observing him carefully. He told a
parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they
(08:12):
were choosing the places of honor at the table. When
you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do
not recline at table in a place of honor. A
more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him,
and the host who invited both of you may approach
(08:35):
you and say, give your place to this man. And
then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. Rather,
when you are invited, go and take the lowest place,
so that when the host comes to you, he may say,
my friend, move up to a higher position. Then you
(09:00):
will enjoy the esteem of your companions at the table.
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, But the
one who humbles himself shall be exalted. Then he said
to the host who invited him. When you hold a
(09:21):
lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends, or
your brothers, or your relatives, or your wealthy neighbors, in
case they may invite you back and you have been repaid.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
Rather, when you.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame,
the blind blessed. Indeed will you be because of their
inability to repay you, For you will be repaid at
the resurrection of the Righteous, the Gospel of the Lord.
Speaker 6 (10:02):
Jesus Chris.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
There's a humorous little story about the great football coach
Don Shula. He made most of his greatness with the
Miami Dolphins, and one year before preseason or the training
camp started, he and his family went to Maine for
(10:37):
a little vacation. One day, it was raining uh and
so he and his family decided to go to a movie.
In the little town. There was only one little movie theater,
and when he and his family walked into the movie theater,
there were about six other people in the theater and
they all turned around and they stood up, and they
(10:57):
gave him an ovation. And so as they were walking
down to their seats, Johnchula turned to his wife.
Speaker 7 (11:04):
And he said, gee, here, we are over.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
One thousand miles from Miami, and they recognize me.
Speaker 7 (11:11):
And he said, you know, they must all be Dolphin fans.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
And they sat down, and one of the men who
had been in the theater came up to Donchulu and
shook his hand, and Shula said to him, how did
you recognize me so quickly? And the man said, Sir,
I don't know who you are, but right before you
and your family came in the manager of the theater
came and said, and unless four or more people come,
(11:38):
we're not going to show the movie today.
Speaker 7 (11:41):
So we thank you and your family for coming humorous story.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
And you might think that Shula, with his prestige, might
have been offended by that, but he wasn't. He laughed
at it, and he told the story over and over
and over again. I thought of that story in terms
of our readings today, because particularly our first reading in
(12:07):
our gospel focus on the gift or the virtue of humility.
You know, sometimes we think of humility as something negative,
that a person who is humble doesn't really value themselves,
thinks of themselves as something less than the rest of
(12:28):
the people around them. But that humility is really the
opposite of that. It's a person who is comfortable with
whom they are. They're comfortable in their own skin, and
they see moments not to lift themselves up, but to
(12:49):
enter into the gift of the community or the people
that they are with. You know, Jesus is sort of
reflecting on how to be a guest. And as I
read that gospel, I often hear my mother and father's words.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
They always told us, you know.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
That if we were at a table, or if we
were in line to do something, make sure that you
let everyone older than.
Speaker 7 (13:18):
You are go first, and then you follow along.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
If you're sitting around the dinner table, don't grab for food,
let it come to you. Be humble, be respectful. And
I think Jesus is an ultimate example of that. And
thinking over these last several months about Pope Francis, he
(13:46):
was a very humble man, often reaching out, taking himself
out of the.
Speaker 7 (13:53):
Lime light to put others in that limelight.
Speaker 3 (13:57):
And so maybe as we take this opportunity right before
the busyness of fall comes upon us, we might reflect
on that value of being humble, of trusting who we are,
and trusting the gifts that we have and being willing
to share them with anyone who enters into our life.
(14:27):
I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, maker of
heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I
believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son
of God, born of the Father before all ages, God
from God, light from light, true God, from true God begotten,
(14:49):
not made consubstantial with the Father. Through him, all things
were made for us and for our salvation. He came
down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate
of the Virgin Mary, and became men.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
For our sake.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
He was crucified under Ponsch's pilot. He suffered death and
was buried, and rose again on the third day, in
accordance with the scriptures, he ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand of the Father.
Speaker 7 (15:18):
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver
of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son, is adored and glorified,
who has spoken.
Speaker 7 (15:35):
Through the prophets.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolist Church. I
confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I
look forward to the resurrection of the dead.
Speaker 7 (15:47):
Life the world to come. Amen.
Speaker 3 (15:51):

Speaker 7 (18:28):
Sacrifice for the praise and glory of His name are
good and the good of all His Holy Church.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
May the sacred offering, O Lord confer on us always
the blessing of salvation. That what is celebrated in mystery,
it may accomplish in power through Christ, Our Lord, the
Lord be with you.
Speaker 7 (18:54):
Lift up your hearts.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. It's
truly right and just, our duty and our salvation always
and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty
and eternal God, for you have laid the foundations of
the world and arranged the changing of times and seasons.
Speaker 7 (19:14):
You formed us in your own enage.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Set us over the whole world and all what's wonder
to rule in your name, over all that you have made,
and forever to praise you for your mighty works through Christ.
And so with all the angels we praise you as
in joyful celebration.
Speaker 7 (19:31):
We acclaim.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Mess You are indeed holy, Oh Lord, the font of
all holiness.
Speaker 7 (20:13):
Make holy.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit
upon them like the de foe, so that they may
become for us the body and blood of our Lord
Jesus Christ. At the time that Jesus was betrayed and
entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and, giving thanks,
broke it, gave it to his disciples, saying, take this
(20:38):
all of you, and eat of it, for this is
my body which will be given up for you. In
a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice,
(20:59):
and once more thanks he gave it to his disciples, saying,
take this all of you, and drink from it. But
this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of
the New and eternal Covenant, which will be poured out
for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
Do this in memory of me the mystery of faith.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
Sus see love profon Sasty.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of His death and resurrection,
we offer you Lord, the bread of life and the
Chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly,
we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord,
(22:13):
your church spread throughout the world, Bring her to the
fullness of charity.
Speaker 7 (22:18):
Together with Leo, our Pope.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
And rober To our Bishop, and all whom you call
to the ministries and service and mission of your Church.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep
in the hope of the Resurrection, and all who have
died in your mercy, welcome them into the light of
your face. Have mercy as us all. We pray that
(22:41):
with the blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with Blessed
Joseph her spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and all the
saints who have pleased you throughout the ages, we may
marit to be coeres to eternal life, and may praise
and glorify you through your son Jesus Christ, through him
(23:04):
and with him and in him, Oh.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
God, Almighty Father, in unity of the Holy Spirit.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Our glory and honor is yours forever and ever. The
(23:31):
Savior's command, informed by divine teaching, we humbly pray our Father,
who are in heaven.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
Hallo it be thy name, Thy Kingdom. Come. Thy will
be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread, and.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us, and lead us not into temptation.
Speaker 7 (23:58):
But deliver us from evil.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, Graciously grant
peace in our days, that by the help of your
mercy we may be always free from sin, say, from
all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the
coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
For the kingdom and the power the Lord of your lords.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Now and Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles peace,
I leave you my peace.
Speaker 7 (24:26):
I give you.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Look not on our sins, but look on the faith
of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will, who live and reign forever
and ever. The Peace of the Lord be with you always.
Let us share that peace with one another. Lamb of God,
(25:00):
take away the sins of the world.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
Have mercy on us.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
Have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away
the sins of the world. Grant us peace. Behold the
(25:25):
Lamb of God. Beholds hum who takes away the sins
of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper
of the Lamb. Lord. I am not worthy that you
