Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass a
Ministry of the Passionist Community. It is October fifth, the
twenty seventh Sunday of Ordinary Time. Our celebrant today is
Father James O'Shea, the provincial of the Eastern Province of
the Passionists. So if you're using a prayer guide, take
it out. Turn to the beginning of mass and let

(01:39):
us begin our celebration.

Speaker 6 (01:56):
Time. It's mean.

Speaker 7 (02:32):
In the name of the Father and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, and the grace and the
peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, be with you all.
And so, brothers and sisters, prepare ourselves for this Eucharist,
and remember the presence of God in our lives as
we accept the Lord's healing and peace and forgiveness. Lord Jesus,

(02:53):
you raise us to new life. Lord, have mercy. You
forgive us our sins. Christ, have mercy. We feed us
with your body and blood. Lord, have mercy. And may
Almighty God of mercy on us, forgive us for our
sins and bring us all to everlasting life and glory
to God in the highest. We praise you, we bless you,

(03:17):
we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks
for your great glory, Lord God, Heavenly King, Oh God,
Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son, Lord God,
Lamb of God, Son of the Father. You take away
the sins of the world. Have mercy on us, You

(03:38):
take away the sins of the world. Receive our prayer
seated at the right hand of the Father. Have mercy
on us and let us pray, Almighty and ever living God, who,

(04:02):
in the abundance of your kindness, surpass the merits and
the desires of those who entreat you. Pour out your
mercy upon us to pardon what conscience dreads, and to
give what prayer does not dare to ask. Through our Lord,
Jesus Christ, your son who lives and reigns with you

(04:22):
in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Wie God forever
and ever.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
Reading from the book of the prophet Habakuk, How long,
o Lord, I cry for help, but you do not listen.
I cry out to you violence, but you do not intervene.
Why do you let me see ruin? Why must I
look at misery? Destruction and violence are before me? There

(04:49):
is strife and clamorous discord. Then the Lord answered me
and said, write down the vision clearly upon the tablets,
so that one can read it readily.

Speaker 7 (05:02):
For the vision.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will
not disappoint if it delays. Wait for it, it will
surely come. It will not be late. The rash one
has no integrity, but the just one, because of his faith,
shall live the word of the Lord.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
If you day you here is more.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Harden, not your hats.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Each day you dear is more harden heart.

Speaker 8 (05:59):
Come, let us bring out our joy to the Lord.

Speaker 9 (06:04):
Hail the Rock who saves us.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Let us come into his presence giving thanks.

Speaker 9 (06:13):
Let us hate him with a song of praise.

Speaker 6 (06:19):
It you day is.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
I love yous.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to Timothy beloved,
I remind you to stir into flame the gift of
God that you have through the imposition of my hands.
For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice,
but rather of power and love and self control. So

(07:08):
do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord,
nor of me a prisoner for his sake. But bear
your share of hardship for the Gospel with the strength
that comes from God. Take as your norm the sound
words that you heard from me, in the faith and
love that are in Christ Jesus. Guard this rich trust

(07:32):
with the help of the Holy Spirit that dwells within
us the word of the Lord.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Ahlyluya a llua lua.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Ah.

Speaker 9 (08:08):
I wait for the Lord.

Speaker 8 (08:14):
My sword waits for his WORDA.

Speaker 7 (08:32):
The Lord be with you. And this is a reading
from the Holy Gospel. According to Luke, It's the apostles
sent to Jesus, increase our faith, The Lord replied, if
you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you
would say to this mulberry tree be uprooted and planted
in the sea, and it would obey you. Who among

(08:57):
you would say to your servant, who has just come
in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, come
here immediately and take your place at table. Would you
not rather say to him, prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I
eat and I drink. You may eat and drink when

(09:17):
I'm finished. Is he grateful to the servant because he
did what was commanded? So should it be with you
when you have done all that you have been commanded
to do. Say, we are unprofitable servants. We have done
only what we were obliged to do. Brothers and sisters,

(09:43):
the Gospel of the Lord. Young man recently asked me
for a few moments to talk, and his question to
me was do you think I'm doing the right thing?

(10:03):
And what was interesting about his question, knowing a little
bit about his life, was that he had spent years
of his young life living simply to survive in quite
rough ways, tough ways, dangerous ways to try to provide
for himself and for his younger siblings that he was
caring for. And he had been quite successful in that
world in doing that, and now he was about another

(10:26):
way of trying to walk and to think, to try
to find a new way to move into his future
that was honest, that was based on honest work, that
was based on a new thinking about relationships, about a
new way of seeing himself, seeing other people, and seeing
the future. So I thought it was interesting that he
would ask me, do you think that I'm doing the
right thing? And when I asked him to explain that,

(10:48):
he said, well, when I look at what I'm trying
to do now, I'm not sure that it's going to work.
I knew that what I did worked, I'm not sure
that doing what we're all being asked to do is
in the end going to give me what I need
to survive and to find life for myself and from

(11:09):
my family. It was a real struggle that this young
man was having, and it was legitimate. He really had
to ask that very hard question. You know, today the
first reading and all the readings really are about vision
and the necessity for us to hold on to vision
even when it's difficult. You know, we heard the first
reading from the prophet Habakook. You know, all these things

(11:32):
are happening, and he's saying to God, I don't see
any evidence that the vision you've asked me to live
is going to bring me to anything positive. All I
see is the victory of violence and pain and suffering
and all the things that are happening about me. It's
very hard for me to trust you. And those beautiful
words that God speaks to habl Cook, write the vision down,

(11:54):
and when you get frustrated, when you when you get scared,
when you get thrown off by the circumstance of your life,
read it and believe that it will in fact endure
and it will not be something that you'll be sorry.
You're trusted the vision will not fail you. So as
we come to the Eucharist today, we're constantly as believers
trying to hold onto that vision in the world that

(12:16):
makes it very difficult to do that right or in
the circumstances of our life. And yet we constantly, especially
when we come to the Eucharist, to be in the
presence of Jesus, who gives us that vision of the
reign of God, this nonviolent proclamation of the God of inclusivity,
the God who embraces all, the God who stands up
against the abuse of power, the God who calls all

(12:38):
of us to recognize in ourselves and in one another,
that we are, in fact the beloved children, and to
create a world of peace and of justice, a world
which all can recognize that dignity. So may we hold
on to that vision when it's easy and when it's difficult.
This Paul tells us today. We are not cowards. We
are strong people. We are brave and courageous people. And

(13:00):
the world and the transformation of the world counts and
relies on that courage that we have. As believers. I
believe in one God, the Father Almighty.

Speaker 6 (13:24):
I believe in one Lord, Jesus.

Speaker 7 (13:25):
Christ, the only begotten son of God, who to the
Father before all legion, right from light, true God, from
true God begotten, not made concuptstantial with the Father. To
him all things were made for us and for our salvation.
He came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit

(13:47):
he was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man
for our sake. He was crucified on the punchious pilot.
He suffered death and was buried, rose again on the
further day. Accordance with the scriptures, He's send it into
heaven and has seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead. His kingdom will have no end. I

(14:10):
believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father, and the Son, who the Father,
the Son of the Lord, and glorify who has spoken
through the prophets.

Speaker 9 (14:22):
I believe in one Holy Cathalan Apostolic Church.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
I confess on baptism for the beginnings of sins.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
And I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and.

Speaker 10 (14:32):
A line of the worlds to come.

Speaker 7 (14:35):
And with hearts not hardened, we raise our voices and
asking God to hear our prayers.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Our response is, Lord, hear our prayer. We pray in
memory of Angelica and Otto Glander the intention for this mass.
We pray to the Lord, Lord Lord. We pray for
the gift of life from the moment of conception to
the last breath, and every moment in between, that we

(15:09):
will always value, respect, honor, and live life as God's gift.
We pray to the Lord prayer. We pray for the
intentions of our benefactors, the intentions of our Sunday Mass
faith community that will be placed next to the altar,
and for all in need of prayer this day.

Speaker 7 (15:32):
We pray to the Lord, Lord your prayer, God of
life here and respond to our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
Trusting is all me. You've never event me. Can you

(16:24):
do reason?

Speaker 5 (16:27):
But oh can we long this fall?

Speaker 7 (16:41):
B Yeah, I pray together brothers and sisters that are
sacrifice may be made acceptable to God, our loving Father,
relies of the sacrifice.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Yours for the raising floorasize me are good and look
at a hosp each.

Speaker 7 (17:01):
Except our Lord, we pray the sacrifice is instituted by
your commands and through the sacred mysteries which we celebrate
with dutiful service, Graciously complete the sanctifying work by which
you are pleased to redeem us. We ask this through Christ,
our Lord. And the Lord be with you, and lift
up your hearts, and let us give thanks to the Lord,

(17:24):
our God. It is truly right, and it is truly just.
It is our duty and is our salvation. Always and
everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and
Eternal God, for you laid the foundations of this world.
You have arranged the changing of times and seasons. You
formed us in your own image, and set us over

(17:44):
the whole world in all of its wonder to care
for creation and forever. Praise you in your mighty works
through Christ, our Lord. And so now we, with angels
and saints pro praise you as in joyful celebration. We acclaim, Come,

(18:36):
and you are in holy. Indeed, Lord, you are the
font of all holiness. Make holy there. For these gifts
we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like
the do fall, that they may become for us the
body and the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. At
the time that Jesus was betrayed and entered willingly into
his passion, he took bread, and giving thanks, he broke

(18:59):
the bread and gave it to his disciples, and said,
take this, all of you in need of it, for
this is my body which will be given up for you.
A similar way, when the supper was ended, Jesus took

(19:20):
the chalice, and, once more, giving thanks, gave the chilice
to his disciples. And said, take this, all of you,
drink from it. For this is the childice of my blood,
the blood of the new and everlasting Covenant. It will
be which will be poured out for you and for many,
for the forgiveness of sins. And do this in memory
of me H the mystery of faith. And therefore, as

(20:09):
we celebrate the memory of His death and resurrection, we
offer you Lord, this bread of life, this childice, a blessing.
We thank you giving, We thank you for holding us
worthy to be in your presence and to minister to you.
And humbly we pray that by partaking in the body
and the blood of Christ, we may be gathered into
one by the Holy Spirit. And Lord, remember your Church

(20:32):
spread throughout the world, and bring us to the fullness
of charity, together with Leo our Pope, and Robert our Bishop,
and with all who serve and lead your people. And
remember also our brothers and our sisters who have fallen
asleep in the hope of the resurrection, and all who
have died in your mercy. Welcome them into the light
of your face, and have mercy on us all. We

(20:53):
pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God,
with Joseph her spouse, with the blessed Apostles, and all
the holy women and men who have pleased throughout the ages,
that we may one day be co heirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify You through your son Jesus Christ,

(21:16):
through him with him in him, all God, Almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 10 (21:23):
All glory and honor is yours forever and ever.

Speaker 7 (21:45):
Now. As brothers and sisters throughout the world, and as
the beloved of the Father, we pray, as Jesus taught us,
our Father, who are in heaven, hollow be thy name,
Thy Kingdom. Come, Thy will be done as it is
in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our treuspasses. As we forgive those who trespass

(22:09):
against us, and lead us not into temptation, and deliver us. Lord,
we pray from every evil and graciously grant peace in
our days, that by your mercy we might be always
free from sin and protect it from all anxiety and distress.
As we wait in joyful hope for the coming of

(22:29):
our Savior, Jesus christy or is now and forever. Lord
Jesus you said to her pasts, I leave you peace
and my peace I give you. Look not on our sins, Lord,
but on our faith, the faith of your people, the Church.
Graciously grant us peace and unity that are in accord
with your will, You who live and who reign, forever

(22:52):
and ever. And may that peace of the Lord be
with you always and here and at home. We offer
one another a sign of Christ Peace, Lamb of God.

Speaker 6 (23:06):
You take away of the world, Lamb of God. You
take away the sense of the world. Mercies, Lamb of God,
do you take away the sense.

Speaker 11 (23:17):
Of the world.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
Grant us peace.

Speaker 7 (23:28):
And behold the Lamb of God. Behold the one who
takes away the sin of the world. Happier we called
and invited to the supper of the Lamb. I am
not worthy that you should have drawn to my youth.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
But I'd only say the word, and.

you and with yours, and the Almighty God bless us
