Speaker 2 (01:46):
After Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass
and Ministry of the Passionist Commune. It is September seventh,
the twenty third Sunday of ordinary Time. So if you're

(02:07):
using a prayer guide, turn to the beginning of Mass
and let us begin our celebration. The name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.
And as we gather to celebrate the sacred mysteries of

(02:29):
our faith, let us first pause and prepare our hearts
for this moment, this encounter with God, by asking forgiveness. Lord,
Have mercy, Lord Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord,
May Almighty God, have mercy on us. Forgive us our
sins and bring us all to the gift of everlasting life.

(02:54):
Glory to God in the Highest and on earth. Peace
to people of good will. We praise you, We bless you,
we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks
for your great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, O God,
Almighty Father, Lord Jesus Christ, only be gotten Son, Lord God,

(03:15):
Lamb of God, Son of the Father. You take away
the sins of the world. Have mercy on us. You
take away the sins of the world. Receive our prayer.
You are seated at the right hand of the Father.
Have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One.
You alone are the Lord. You alone are the most

(03:35):
High Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit in the glory
of God the Father. Amen, and let us pray, Oh God,
by whom we are redeemed and receive adoption. Look graciously
upon your beloved daughters and sons, that those who believe

(03:56):
in Christ may receive true freedom and an everlasting inheritance
through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and
reigns with you in unity of the Holy Spirit God,
forever and ever.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
A reading from the Book of Wisdom. Who can know
God's counsel or who can conceive what the Lord intends?
For the deliberations of mortals are timid and unsure are
our plans? For the corruptible body burdens the soul, and

(04:31):
the earth and shelter weighs down the mind that has
many concerns, And scarce do we guess the things on earth?
And what is within our grasp we find with difficulty.
But when things are in heaven, who can search them out?
Or whoever knew your counsel, except you had given wisdom

(04:53):
and sent your Holy Spirit from on high. And thus
were the paths of those on earth made straight the
word of the Lord.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Thanks to God.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Every day it's all, Lord, you have been our feodverya
all lone, you have been Ovy.

Speaker 7 (05:39):
You tune men chas and say eternal children of men
to your eyes.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
A thousand years are like us in a come and
gone are like a watch him the night.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to Philammon.
I Paul, an old man and now also a prisoner
for Christ Jesus, urge you on behalf of my child Onissimus,

(06:27):
whose father I have become in my imprisonment. I am
sending him that is my own heart, back to you.
I should have liked to retain him for myself, so
that he might serve me on your behalf in my
imprisonment for the Gospel. But I did not want to
do anything without your consent, so that the good you

(06:48):
do might not be forced but voluntary. Perhaps this is
why he was away from you for a while, that
you might have him back forever, no longer as a slave,
but more than a slave, a brother beloved especially to me,
but even more so to you as a man and

(07:13):
in the Lord. So if you regard me as a partner,
welcome him as you would me. The word of the Lord.
Thanks Peter, God.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
Ah hello, yah.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Hell Yah.

Speaker 5 (07:40):
Yah yah.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
The Lord be with you. A reading from the whole Gospel.
According to Luke, great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and
he turned and addressed them. If everyone comes to me
without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers

(08:18):
and sisters, and even his own very life, he cannot
be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross
and come after me cannot be my disciple. Which of
you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit
down and calculate the cost to see if there's enough

(08:43):
for its completion. Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding
yourself unable to finish the work, the onlookers should laugh
at him and say this one began to build but
did not have the resources to finish. Or what king

(09:05):
marching into battle would not first sit down and decide
whether ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king
advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops. But if not,
while he is still far away, he will send a

(09:29):
delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way,
any one of you who does not renounce all his
possessions cannot be my disciple. The Gospel of the Lord.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
As I was just walking over here, I began to
realize that the little story I have is based in football,
and this is the second weekend in a row that
I've used a story from football. Well, it's a new
season and everything's ratcheting up, so I'm with them, okay,

(10:23):
But to today's story doesn't deal with the Miami Dolphins.
That deals with the Chicago Bears. And the Chicago Bears
at one point in time had a profound running back
by the name of Gail Sayers. He was a wonderful
running back and he was magnificent to watch. But before

(10:43):
he became Chicago's running back, he went to the University
of Kansas. He played football there, but he also ran track.
And one day he went into his track coach's office
and on his coach's desk there was a little plaque,
and the plaque said I am third and Sairs is.

(11:06):
Curiosity got the best of him and one day he
asked his coach what does that mean? And the coach said, well,
for me, God is first, and the people of my life,
my family, my friends, my relations, my track students, anyone
that enters my life is second and I'm third, and

(11:31):
that little plaque sort of stuck with Sairs And before
he graduated from Kansas, he decided that that was going
to be his motto also, And when he got to
the NFL and established himself as one of the premier
running backs, he bought a little gold medallion, and on

(11:52):
the medallion he had etched I am Third. And he
since that time has worn that medallion ever since. And
in his autobiography, which is by the same title, I
Am Third, he says that each day that's how he

(12:12):
tries to live him life, with God being first, other
people in his life being second, and himself being third.
And he says he's not always successful, but having that
little metal around his neck doesn't let him stray too
far from trying to live that out. I mentioned that

(12:35):
story because I really think that touches our scriptures today.
You know, there's a book by Austin Avery about Pope Francis,
and the book is entitled First belong to God, A
Retreat with Pro Francis, And I've always been intrigued by
that first part of the title, First Belonged to God,

(13:01):
I Am Third seems to go hand in hand with
the saying that Gail says and his track coach found
very helpful in the living of life. You know, we
have to center ourselves somewhere, and hopefully we're centering ourselves
with God. But we can't just say it. We have

(13:24):
to live it out. We have to work at it
each day, and as Gaiel Sairs says, you know, sometimes
it isn't always possible. We can't do it one hundred
percent of the time because of our humanness. But it
keeps us focused, it reminds us and maybe it gets
us through some struggling or difficult moments when we want

(13:47):
to go in a different direction. That God is always
first in our life, not only by just what we say,
but how we live our life. And I think that's
the focus of who we are. As we celebrate this
Eucharist today, as God offers himself to us and we

(14:10):
take that gift and begin to live our life, let
us pray with confidence to God, whose faithfulness endures forever.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Our response is Lord hear our prayer. We pray for
the gift of life from its first moment of conception
to its last breath, and every moment in between. May
we always honor respect, value and live life as God's gift.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
We pray to the Lord.

Speaker 5 (14:46):
Lord.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Lord here our prayer.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
We pray for all who died on September eleventh, two
thousand and one, for their families and friends who continue
to mourn their loss, and for all who have died
since then, illnesses and diseases related to the events of
the day. We pray to the Lord Lord.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Here are prayer.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
We pray for the intentions of our benefactors, the intentions
of our Sunday Mass faith community that will be placed
next to the altar, and for Lombardo and Pinelli families,
for whom we pray in a special way at this Mass.
We pray to the Lord.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Lord, Loving God. Here the prayers we have spoken, those
place next to our altar, and those that you find
in the depths of our hearts. Through Christ, Our Lord.

Speaker 7 (15:54):
Move in mind, Susie face half in my eyes. Hell me, Zusie, holman, my,

(16:19):
tell me to leave your boys, holman, my, tell me to.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
Call in my Lord, tell me to holm in my
heart to.

Speaker 5 (16:49):
Tell me to.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
Friends in faith. Pray that my sacrifice and yours may
be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father. May the Lord
accept the sacrifice in our hands, raise and glory of
its name, our good and the good of all Holy Church.
O God, who give us the gift of true prayer
and peace, graciously grant that through this offering we may

(17:19):
do fitting homage to Your divine majesty, and by part
taking of the sacred mystery, we may be faithfully united
in mind and heart through Christ, Our Lord, the Lord
be with you. Lift up your hearts. Let us give

(17:40):
thanks to the Lord, our God. It's truly right and just,
our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give
you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for
you laid the foundations of the world and arrange the
changing of times and seasons. You formed us in your
own image and set us over the whole world and

(18:00):
all it's wonder to rule in your name, over all
that you have made, and forever to praise you for
your mighty works through Christ. And so with all the
angels we praise you, as in joyful celebration we acclaim busy.

Speaker 6 (18:42):
In My name.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
You are indeed holy, Oh Lord, the font of all holiness.
Make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by sending down
your spirit upon them like the d fall, so that
they may become for us the body and blood of
our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time that Jesus was

(19:13):
betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and,
giving thanks, broke it, gave it to his disciples, saying,
take this all of you, and eat of it, for
this is my body which will be given up for you.

(19:47):
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took
the chalice. Once more, giving thanks, he gave it to
his disciples, saying, take this all of you, drink from it,
for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood
of the New and eternal Covenant, which will be poured
out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.

(20:11):
Do this in memory of me, a mystery of faith, save.

Speaker 5 (20:32):
For your presentation.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection,
we offer you Lord, the bread of life and the
chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly,
we pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
we may be gathered in to one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord,

(21:03):
your Church spread throughout the world. Bring her to the
fullness of charity. Together with Leo, our Pope, and Robert,
to our Bishop, and all whom you call to the
ministries and service and mission of your church. Remember also
our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the
hope of the resurrection, all who have died in your mercy,

(21:24):
welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy
in us. All. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with the
blessed Apostles, and all the saints who have pleased you
throughout the ages, we may marit to be coeres to
eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your

(21:45):
son Jesus Christ, Through him and with him and in Him,
Oh God, Almighty Father, in unity.

Speaker 8 (21:57):
Of the Holy Spirit, Oh Glory and honor is yours
forever and ever.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
The Saviour's command, informed by divine teaching, we humbly pray
our Father, who are in heaven, Hallod be thy name,
Thy Kingdom. Come. Thy will be done on earth as
it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trustlesses, as we forgive those who

(22:41):
trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray from
every evil, Graciously grant peace in our days, that by
the help of your mercy, we may be always free
from sin. Say from all distress, as we await the
blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Speaker 5 (23:03):
For the Kingdom, the power, the glory are yours now
and forever.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
And Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles peace,
I leave you my peace. I give you. Look not
on our sins, but look on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with
your will, who live and reign forever and ever. The
Peace of the Lord be with you always with your spirits.

(23:28):
Let us share that peace with one another. Lamb of God,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy
on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins

(23:48):
of the world. Have mercy on us. Lamb of God,
you take away the sins of the world, Grant us peace.
Behold the Lamb of God. Beholds him who takes away

(24:10):
the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to
the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy
to you to my roof, but only say the word,
and my soul shall be healed.

Speaker 4 (24:34):
I a lod to see and s God.

Speaker 5 (24:39):
I have heard my pepook God, Oh dwell and joy
and my wisen.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
I whom he does stars of Alright, I will take
that darkness pride.

Speaker 5 (25:07):
Said by say teasy, for.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
I have.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
My little calls. I will.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
Be And let us pray. Grant that You're faithful, Lord,
whom you nourish and endow with life through the food

(26:14):
of your word and heavenly sacrament, may so benefit from
your beloved Son's great gifts, that we may merit an
eternal share in his life, who lives in rains forever
and ever. The Lord be with you, and may our
good and gracious God bless you today and always, Father,

(26:37):
Son and Holy Spirit. Our Mass is ended. Let us
go forth and continue to proclaim the Gospel with our life.
Thanks to God, and thanks to all of you for
joining us today and celebrating the Sunday Mass with us.
A very special thanks as always to the ministry team

(26:58):
here for helping us to pray and to celebrate this day.
As mentioned during our prayer the faithful, this Thursday is
the twenty fourth anniversary of the events of nine to eleven,
two thousand and one, very tragic day in our life
as a nation. And please know if you're affected by

(27:20):
that in any profound way, that you're in our prayers,
not just today, but certainly on that day, as we'll
all stop to remember those events and hope that nothing
like that happens again. On a personal note, and I
hesitate in saying this because the last time I mentioned

(27:41):
or ask you to pray for a marathon, it didn't happen.
And because we tape ahead of time, these things happen.
But on September seventh, up in sack At Harbor, New York,
which is up on Lake Ontario, hopefully only between seven

(28:02):
and noon, I will be running a marathon. So I
just simply ask for your prayers for a safe run,
for not just me, but for all who will porticipate
that day, and hopefully you'll find out whether I lived
or died. Thanks for joining us today, have a great week,

(28:23):
and as always, may the passion of Jesus Christ be
always in your heart. See.
