Welcome everyone to our celebration of the Sunday Mass the
Ministry of the Passions Community. It is November ninth, and
we celebrate the feast of the Dedication of the Latern Basilica.
So let us be a community of faith, gathered and
united as always by the sign of our faith in
the name of the Father and of the Son and
(02:34):
of the Holy Spirit. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God, the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with all of you. And as we enter this
great mystery of our faith, let us first pause and
prepare our hearts by asking forgiveness. Lord, have mercy, Lord Christ,
(02:55):
have mercy. Lord, have mercy, Lord They Almighty God, have
mercy on us. Forgive us our sins and bring us
all to the gift of everlasting life. Glory to God
in the Highest and on earth. Peace to people of goodwill.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we
(03:15):
glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory.
Lord God, Heavenly King, Oh God, Almighty Father, Lord, Jesus Christ,
only be gotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son
of the Father. You take away the sins of the world.
Have mercy on us. You take away the sins of
(03:36):
the world. Receive our prayer. You are seated at the
right hand of the Father. Have mercy on us, for
you alone are the Holy One. You alone are the Lord.
You alone are the most High Jesus Christ with the
Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen,
and let us pray God, who from living and chosen stones,
(04:04):
prepare an eternal dwelling. For your Majesty, increase in your
church a spirit of grace that you have bestowed, so
that by new growth, your faithful people may build up
the heavenly Jerusalem. Through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son,
who lives in reigns with you in unity of the
(04:25):
Holy Spirit God forever and ever.
Speaker 8 (04:30):
Reading from the book of the prophet Ezekiel, the angel
brought me back to the entrance of the temple, and
I saw water flowing out from beneath the threshold of
the temple toward the east, For the facade of the
temple was toward the east. The water flowed down from
the southern side of the temple, south of the Altar.
(04:51):
He led me outside by the north gate and around
to the outer gate facing the east, where I saw
water trickling from the southern side. He said to me,
this water flows into the eastern district, down upon the Araba,
and empties into the sea the salt waters, which it
makes fresh. Wherever the river flows, every sort of living
(05:16):
creature that can multiply shall live, and there shall be
abundant fish. For wherever this water comes, the sea shall
be made fresh. Along both banks of the river. Fruit
trees of every kind shall grow. Their leaves shall not fade,
nor their fruit fail. Every month they shall bear fresh fruit,
(05:38):
for they shall be watered by the flow from the sanctuary.
Their fruit shall serve for food, and their leaves for medicine.

Speaker 8 (07:43):
Reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
Brothers and sisters, you are God's building, according to the
grace of God given to me, Like a wise master builder.
I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it.
But each one must be careful how he builds upon it,
(08:07):
for no one can lay a foundation other than the
one that is there, namely Jesus Christ. Do you not
know that you are the temple of God, and that
the Spirit of God dwells in you. If anyone destroys
God's temple. God will destroy that person. For the temple
(08:28):
of God, which you are, is holy the word of
the Lord.
Speaker 7 (08:35):
Thanks be to.
Speaker 9 (08:43):
Ah elu Yah, ahlu yah.
Speaker 10 (08:50):
Yah the Lord be with you.
Speaker 7 (09:10):
A reading from the Holy Gospel. According to John, since
the passover of the Jews was near, Jesus went up
to Jerusalem. He found in the temple area those who
sold oxen, sheep, doves, as well as money changers seated there.
(09:33):
He made a whip out of cords and drove them
all out of the temple area with the sheep and
the oxen, and spilled the coins of the money changers
and overturned their tables. And to those who sold doves,
he said, take these out of here. Stop making my
(09:53):
father's house a marketplace. His disciples recalled the words of
scripture zeal, for your house will consume me at this.
The Jews answered and said to him, what sign can
you show us for doing this. Jesus answered and said
(10:15):
to them, destroy this temple in three days, and I
will raise it up. The Jews said, this temple has
been under construction for forty six years, and you will
raise it up in three days. But Jesus was speaking
about the temple of his body. Therefore, when he was
(10:39):
raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had
said this, and they came to believe the scriptures and
the word Jesus had spoken, the Gospel of the Lord Prasty.
Speaker 12 (10:57):
Lord Jesus Christ.
Speaker 7 (11:07):
You know, it might seem odd today to dedicate a
Sunday to the feast of the dedication of a building,
the latter in Basilica. You know, if we listened to
Saint Paul and his very first line of his reading today,
he said, we are the church, or we are God's building.
(11:31):
And I've always thought that that it's the community that
makes the church, where two or three are gathered the
living stones that build a foundation. But as I reflected
on this particular feast and thought a lot about this
particular Basilica. It's one of the four major basilicas in Rome,
(11:53):
and actually it's the only arch basilica in the world.
It's the other of churches. It's the cathedral of the
Diocese of Rome. Thus it's the Pope's church. It's the
first church in the Western world. Its foundation goes all
the way back to Constantine in the fourth century, and
(12:19):
it has a rather checkered history, which I think is
what makes it interesting to celebrate as a building that
maybe represents us as the community. You know, it's been
almost destroyed three or four times by an earthquake, by
(12:40):
a series of fires during the Middle Ages. It was
sacked by the Vandals at that particular point in time
in history, and all of its preciousness was stripped away.
Was a place a house that housed people from the
(13:01):
Nazis during World War Two. It along with its palace
that once stood beside it, housed religious communities, both of
men and women. If you go to the latter in
Basilic you'll see many different styles of architecture because every
(13:22):
period in time when it was restored or renovated or rebuilt,
a new form of architecture was put into the church.
So to me, in many ways, it represents us the
community of faith that lives out our life of faith
not perfectly, but we struggle with the realities of our
(13:48):
world and were different. We presented a different image as
communities of what the church really is and what it's about.
So I think what the Church is asking us to
do today is just pause and reflect on who we
are and the struggles we've gone through, and the challenges
(14:12):
that we've had, and how we've grown and perhaps matured
and changed in our own journey of faith, and that
there is a building in Rome that, along with many
other buildings, represents us and who we are and what
we believe and what we value, and how we bring
(14:34):
God's presence to each moment of life with perseverance and hope.
We bring our prayers to God this day.
Speaker 8 (14:52):
Our response is Lord, hear our prayer. We pray in
a special way for Frank and Francis on to the intention.
Speaker 7 (15:01):
For this Mass.
Speaker 8 (15:02):
Today, we pray to the Lord Lord our prayer. We
pray for all veterans in gratitude for their sacrifice and service,
and we pray and hope that one day there will
be no more wars. We pray to the Lord Lord
our prayer. We pray for the intentions of our benefactors,
(15:24):
the intentions of our Sunday Mass faith community that will
be placed next to the altar, and for those all
who are in need.
Speaker 7 (15:33):
Of prayer this day. We pray to the Lord Lord prayer.
Eternal God, in your great mercy and love here and
answer our prayers through Christ, our Lord.
Speaker 6 (16:00):

Speaker 7 (17:06):
Friends in faith. Pray that my sacrifice and yours may
be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father, the Lord. Accept
the sacrifice our praise of His name, our good and
the good of all Holy Church. Except we pray, o Lord,
the offering made here, and grant that by it those
(17:29):
who seek you your favor may receive in this place
the power of the sacraments and the answer to their prayers.
Through Christ, Our Lord, the Lord be with you. Lift
up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord.
Our God is right, and it's truly right and just,
(17:51):
our duty and our salvation always and everywhere, to give
you thanks, Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and Eternal God, for
in your benevolence you have pleased. You are pleased to
dwell in this house of prayer, in order to perfect
us as the temple of the Holy Spirit, supported by
(18:14):
the perpetual help of your grace, and resplendent with the
glory of a life acceptable to you. Year by year,
you sanctify the Church, the bride of Christ. Foreshadowed invisible buildings,
so that, rejoicing, as the mother of countless children, she
(18:36):
may be given her place in your heavenly glory. And
so with all the angels and saints we praise you,
and as without end we acclaims.
Speaker 6 (19:03):
Your glorys Come see the name of the Lord, as.
Speaker 7 (19:25):
You are indeed holy, Oh Lord, the font of all holiness,
Make holy. Therefore these gifts we pray by sending down
your spirit upon them like the dew fall, so that
they may become for us the body and blood of
our Lord Jesus Christ. At the time that Jesus was
betrayed and entered willingly into his passion, he took bread, and,
(19:48):
giving thanks, broke it gave it to his disciples, saying,
take this all of you, and eat of it, for
this is my which will be given up for you.
(20:14):
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took
the chalice, and, once more, giving thanks, he gave it
to his disciples, saying, take this all of you, and
drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood,
the blood of the new and eternal Covenant, which will
be poured out for you and for many, for the
(20:36):
forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
The mystery of faith.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
Wood by your crossing sat you said us.
Speaker 7 (21:13):
Therefore, as we celebrate the memorial of His death and resurrection,
we offer you Lord, the bread of life and the
chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us
worthy to be in your presence and ministered to you humbly.
We pray that, partaking of the body and blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit. Remember, Lord,
(21:35):
your church spread throughout the world, bring her to the
fullness of charity. Together with Leo R. Pope, and Timothy A. Robert,
our Bishop, and all whom you call to the ministries
and service and mission of your Church. Remember also our
sisters and brothers who have fallen asleep in the hope
of the resurrection, and all who have died in your mercy.
(21:58):
Welcome them into the life of your face. Have mercy
on us all. We pray that with the blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God, with Blessed Joseph her spouse, with the
blessed Apostles, and all the saints who have pleased you
throughout the ages, we may marit to be coeres to
eternal life, and may praise and glorify you through your
(22:20):
son Jesus Christ, through him and with him and in him,
Oh God, Almighty Father, and Unity of the Holy Spirit.
All glory and honor is yours, forever and ever. At
(22:58):
the Savior's command and informed by divine teaching, we humbly
pray Our Father, Father, who are in heaven. Hello, be
thy name, Thy Kingdom. Come, Thy will be done on
earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day
our daily bread, and forgive us our trusts. We forgive
(23:20):
those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray,
from every evil. Graciously grant peace in our days, that
by the help of your mercy we may be always
free from sin, safe from all distress, as we await
(23:41):
the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Speaker 5 (23:46):
The Kingdom, the power and Yours now and forever.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
And Lord Jesus Christ, you set to your apostles peace.
I leave you my peace. I give you. Look not
on our sins, but look on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with
your will, who live and reign forever and ever. The
peace of the Lord be with you always. Let us
(24:13):
share that peace with one another. Lamb of God, you
take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world.
(24:35):
Have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away
the sins of the world. Grant us peace. Behold the
Lamb of God. Behold him who takes away the sins
of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper
(24:58):
of the Lamb. I am not worthy that you should
enter under my roof, But only say the word, and
my soul shall be healed.

partaking of this sacrament we may be made the temple

your glory through Christ, our Lord, the Lord be with you,
with you, and may our good and gracious God bless
us this day and always, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Our Mass is ended. Let us go forth and continue
(27:17):
to proclaim the Gospel with our life. Thanks to God,
and thanks to all of you for joining us today
for our celebration of the Sunday Mass. Special thanks to
the ministry team for leading us and helping us to
pray and to celebrate today. This Tuesday is Veterans Day,
(27:39):
so it gives us an opportunity to honor perhaps those
people we know or people we may encounter on that
day in thankfulness for their service to our country. As
I've mentioned the last few weeks, in a couple of weeks,
the new Prayer Guide will be being you November thirtieth,
(28:02):
for Sunday of Advent. We will begin volume one oh seven.

maybe one more week if you haven't received it yet,
and then give us a call so we can send
one out to you. If you've never received a Prayer
Guide and would like one again. Give us a call,
(28:23):
send us an email, write us a note, and we'll
send one out to you. Have a great week everyone,

of Jesus Christ be always in your heart too.
