The Carillon Miami Wellness Resort is at the forefront of the wellness industry, boasting an impressive list of cutting-edge treatments to jump start your “new you” ethos. From touchless wellness treatments to anti-aging and preventative health programs, to extensive fitness offerings and pool and beach access, the property sets the tone for wellness standards across the country and is perfect for a new year renewal. Tammy Pahel, VP of Spa and Welness Operations for Carillon Miami Wellness Resort joins Michelle to talk about all the resort has to offer.

Distinctive Assets, the LA-based entertainment marketing company credited with transforming celebrity gifting into a pop culture phenomenon, will yet again be independently producing their legendary “Everyone Wins” Nominee Gift Bags, which have become the most buzzed-about swag in history! This year’s top acting and directing nominees including Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Michelle Williams, Michelle Yeoh, Judd Hirsch, Angela Bassett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Todd Field and Steven Spielberg will be treated to a six-figure gift bag intended to pamper, delight, surprise and inspire…regardless of whether or not they take home that iconic gold statue. Lash Fary, founder of Distinctive Assets, joins Michelle to discuss what is in this year's "Everyone Wins" Gift Bag.

Dr. Stephen Ridella, Director, Office of Defects Investigation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, joins Michelle to talk about why it's important to stay on top of safety recalls on your vehicle. As we prepare for Daylight Saving Time on March 12, 2023, many Americans are reminded to conduct simple safety checks around the home, such as changing the batteries in their smoke detectors and furnace filters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) continues its effort to ‘spring forward’ to safety by encouraging consumers to check their vehicles for safety recalls twice a year—timed conveniently with the beginning and end of Daylight Saving Time. During the annual Vehicle Safety Recalls Week, drivers are urged to utilize NHTSA’s free VIN lookup tool on NHTSA.gov and the SaferCar app.

Welcome to Passport Mommy. I'm yourhost, Michelle Jerson. This show is

the lives of our children. Momand dad. Entrepreneurs tell us their inspiring
stories, learn about products that couldmake both you and your child's life easier
and more fun. And of course, fellow parents discuss and laugh about what's

(00:23):
happening in their child's world. Motherhoodis a journey. Thanks for joining me
on mine. Welcome to Passport Mommy. I'm Michelle Jerson and I'm so happy
to have our first guest on theshow. I was at the Global Wellness
Summit a few weeks ago and Igot to meet this woman who is amazing
in the spot and wellness space. Her name is Tammy Pale. She is

(00:44):
a transformative and strategic SPA wellness, fitness and retail executive with thirty years of
leadership experience, and she is withthe Carolyn Miami Wellness Resort right now.
And I think I was at theCaroline years ago and when I was looking
at what you are offering today withall of your different wellness treatments, and

(01:07):
I mean it's just incredible. Itis a one stop shop for everything,
and the fact that you're in Miami, which is such an easy trip,
especially I'm based in New York City, but pretty much from anywhere, it's
so easy to get to Miami. It's such a destination. And you are
home to the largest spot on theEastern Seaboard seventy thousand square feet. Tammy,
thank you so much for joining metoday. Michelle, thank you for

(01:30):
having me. And yeah, toyour point of seventy thousand square feet,
we are the largest wellness resort onthe East Coast, and you know,
we've been very fortunate to be ableto create programs based on wellness. But
like you said, we have reallyeverything anybody possibly could want under one roof.

(01:53):
And it doesn't mean you have tobe a wellness group guru to enjoy
your time here at the Carolina, but you may try something new that you've
never tried before, and we haveit here right exactly. So tell me
a little bit about some of thewellness offerings. Well. We have four

(02:13):
different categories, so of course inthe spa you're going to find traditional spa
services, facials, massages, bodytreatments. We have some amazing equipment.
For instance, we have a Lemmiv she table that is water pillow top,
So if you're having body treatments inour spa, it's so luxurious because
you're nice and warm and cozy allthe time. And without the Lemmi v

(02:39):
she table, most times the bodytreatments are very uncomfortable, so spa traditional
treatments. The second part of usis touchless wellness, which is a lot
of technology. The focus is onbuilding a healthy immune system, skin wellness,

(03:01):
mental wellness, stress reducing stress andanxiety, and then muscle recovery.
So we have What we try todo is address things that we were hearing
coming out of COVID that we continueto still here. Also, I didn't
mentioned sleep wellness. Those are thetop issues that we hear from our guests

(03:27):
saying here, I'm having this trouble. What do you have to offer?
So that's the touch list, andthen we have health and wellness. And
in health and wellness, we havea company called Biostation, which is integrative
and functional medicine, and they're awoman or man with hormonal health can get
that addressed, weight management. Theyhave overall wellness offering such as IV therapies

(03:55):
people that are traveling. We havea lot of internationals that have jet leg
they have IVY therapies for that. They have it for you know, stress
and anxiety. So their programming reallywas built to address what was going on
in your body personally, so whetheryou're no matter what, when you're coming

(04:23):
to visit US, they can doblood panels that include a hundred different indicators
and what does that mean? Thatmeans that you know, I might think
I need to lose weight, andweight isn't my real issue. It's hormones.
So those those blood panels show thatlet's address the hormones first, and

(04:44):
then once you address the hormones, ninety percent of the time the weight begins
to come off naturally because it's sortof it's sort of restraining you from losing
weight. But the blood panels arejust indicator is telling you likely what's in
your DNA, what you've inherited fromyour family is going to show up.

(05:06):
And if it shows up and I'mgoing to pick one thing, diabetes,
if it's going to show up,and you what do you do to keep
that from happening. So there's theyhave a whole program on educating you.
On the nutrition side of it,they have a nutritionist as part of their
program that would sit down and helpyou understand what you should and shouldn't be

(05:30):
eating. I was actually in Vegasat Forbes. They have an annual conference
and a doctor which I thought wasso enlightening. A doctor stood up and
said that you realize that only twentypercent of your health can a doctor change.
Eighty percent of it you can change. And so that's sort of how

(05:54):
integrative medicine looks at your life. They look at you personally, they run
i'd work on you personally, andthen they customize a program addressing your personal
issues or things that may crop uplater in your life. So we have
actually an overnight package with them wherepeople can can purchase, and it's the

(06:17):
wellness journey you know, and includes, of course, you know, four
nights, five days, and itincludes everything that you would need, the
diagnostic testing, the bio markers andpanels, IV therapies. It's sort of
everything you would need for that wellnessjourney. And basically it's exploring where you

(06:40):
are and where where you need tobe and then so health and honest we
have that, and we also haveChinese medicine doctor Irena is with us and
she does you know, coppying. She has a variety of different beyond acupunction

(07:00):
and for those that are afraid ofneedles or don't like needles, she also
has another piece of equipment she usesthat gives you the same benefits but is
without needles. But this all soundsamazing, and I want to hear more
about all of the different offerings. But I just want for anybody who's thinking
about coming down, where exactly inMiami are you located. I know you

(07:25):
mentioned that you offer packages that areabout five days, four nights. How
long would you recommend somebody staying onproperty? Well, I mean we picked
the four nights five days just becauseafter COVID, after we reopened, we
saw that the average guests was stayingfive nights. So what we did was

(07:46):
we just instead of having a fightfive nights, six day package, we
made it four nights, five days, just in case someone was flying from
New York and had to get backright, you know, to work.
But you know that is our averageguests today stay in time. And if
I remember correctly, so you didn'talways have all of this technology, right,

(08:07):
No, I'm trying to think.I think I was there, maybe
I don't know, more than sixyears ago. And you have a lovely
pool outside that overlooks the ocean. Is that right? Yeah, we actually
have. We actually have two pools. One is in the spot. It's
on the rooftop of the spot. It's a saltwater pool. It's for dogs

(08:28):
only, and there is a jacuzziup there. And then we have an
ocean front pool, which is cabana. And you asked where we're located beyond
Miami Beach. We're actually on sixtyeighth and Collins, So we're on the
north side of Miami Beach, gotit? Which is great because it's not

(08:48):
so crazy crowded as it might bein the other part of Miami, which
I like because if you're coming toa retreat and you're coming to unwind,
you don't want the craziness of everymore quiet exactly exactly. And as far
as the cuisine that's offered at theresort, tell me about your pop up
restaurant that's there now and what elseis offered well on our in our main

(09:13):
restaurant called the Strand, we havea health a wellness menu that you can
select so healthy proteins, healthy youknow, healthy vegetables. If someone wants
to come in and really focus onhealth and wellness, and you know,

(09:35):
we have a regular menu, amenu you know that you can get anything
you want, but when people arehere for wellness, they can ask for
the wellness menu and order from thatmenu. And as for our pop up
restaurant, it operates Wednesday through Sunday, and there's two options, six in

(09:56):
the morning or eight six in themorning, six o'clock at night. I
apologize six o'clock at night and it'sthree courses and then there's eight eight pm
reservation and that's a six course terrific. It sounds amazing. We only have
about thirty seconds left in this segment, but I'll wonder if you'll join me

(10:20):
for the next segment and we cantalk quickly because I want to talk more
about the touch list wellness services thatare offered. But where can we go
for more information and where to bookour stay? Well of course you would
go to you know www. CarolineHotel dot com. Go to the website.
All the information on retreats are onthat website. All the technology,

(10:45):
the touch listswallness technology or menu youknow, everything that you would want,
you can go to the website andyou can get that. Then if you
want to, we have an eighthundred number that you can you can call
and ask questions if if you want. But I will say that our website
is pretty comprehensive. I don't thinkthere's anything that we haven't left out.

(11:07):
Great, great, Tammy Pale, thank you so much for joining me today
on Passport Mommy. Stay with mebecause I would love to talk with you
more coming up next. You're listeningto Passport Mommy. I'm Michelle Jerson.
You're listening to Passport Mommy. I'mMichelle Jerson, and we're speaking with Tammy
Pale. She is a transformative andstrategic SPA wellness, fitness and retail executive.

(11:28):
She's with Carol and Miami and itis the greatest wellness resort and so
easy to get to. And partof what we were talking about before was
the touchless therapy that is offered whereyou can go and relax in say a
float therapy bath or in a certaintype of pod that put you into this
really relaxing sleep. Tammy, tellme more about these services. All of

(11:52):
them address something specifically, like, for instance, with the cryotherapy. It's
three minutes sub zero temperatures. Butthe benefits are, you know, it's
invigorating to the body, helps theblood flow. It also helps balance your
nervous system, build a healthy immunesystem. Burns eight hundred calories. If

(12:15):
you're a runner, anybody athletic, they absolutely love it because it burns eight
hundred calories and three minutes. Alot of women love it that are trying
to lose that five pounds. Butwe also have halotherapy infrared, which is
you know, you're breathing pharmaceutical saltreally great for the respiratory skin, amazing

(12:37):
for the skin. This coupled witha facial would be an amazing experience.
To your point you said, thesalt float bath, that is, we
actually have a dual person salt flowbath so couples can enjoy it together.
But again it's eight hundred pounds ofepps and salt full of magnesium. Your

(12:58):
skin is the largest organ and soit's absorbing that magnesium and that magnesium will
help relax your muscle tissue, butit'll also help you sleep better at night.
We have Soma Dome, which yousort of spoke about that it's actually
you lay down and you pull adome down over the top of you and

(13:20):
there's six different programs you can select, but you know anxiety and stress is
a big one, so that's avery popular experience for people. But it's
using AMAF frequencies to help relax, clean your cells. It also is sound

(13:41):
therapy. You have headsets on topof it, so it's a great experience.
Our number one treatment is a prismlightpod that is red light cold laser
and it's great for people that haveinflammation pain management. It shrinks fat cells.
Again great for the skin. Butthat is our most popular book serves

(14:05):
in it's only fifteen minutes. OurSPA wave is water pillow top takes you
to a bit of sleep in nineminutes, so people with sleep issues,
that's a that's the perfect one foryou. Vemy is the vibroacoustic magnetic infrared
therapy again removing EMF and if thosethat are listening don't know what MF is,

(14:30):
We actually gather this on our cellsand it comes from cell towers,
electric towers, things that electronically thatare electronic frequencies that are affecting us that
we don't feel it, but it'shappening, so the vemy will help remove
that from and help you have healthiercells. A very popular one we just

(14:54):
a treatment we just received from telAviv is mind Spa and again it addresses
mental wellness, but it's a greatexperience and recharges. Another one recharge your
relounge. It's a it's a zerogravity chair that you lay or a lounge
chair that you lay on, butit's um there are electro stimulants going from

(15:20):
the nape of your neck to thelower back and what it does is stimulate
your muscle tissue which causes it torelax. So if you have noughts or
people that have back pain, thisis like one of the most important treatments
if you have back pain to tohelp you help you be able to relax.

(15:41):
Our managing director did it. Hecould hardly walk. He twisted his
back at Christmas time over the Christmastree and so fast forward. He did
two treatments and he could actually getoff the relounge and walk. Yeah,
absolutely incredible. So i'd see yourspa is also a great resource for anybody

(16:02):
who is local. How do yourtreatments work? Can you come by and
just do ala carte? You justpay per treatment. Are their packages?
Yeah, we have You can doany of our treatments ala carte, but
we do sell packages of twelve mostof the technologies. We recommend that you
do it three times a week mostof them or go anywhere from fifteen to

(16:23):
thirty minutes. But it's a twelvepack that you would purchase. And then
we created two years ago Touchless WellnessCircuits. That one is relaxation and stress
sleep wellness, weight loss, painmanagement, so people can come in and
buy two and a half hours atreally drastically reduce pricing for those circuits,

(16:48):
but people people love them. Yeah, oh what's not to love. I've
done the float therapy. It isamazing and it takes a while sometimes to
calm your mind, I feel like, but once you do and you allow
yourself to just be there, itis the most transformative experience. And you
know, for me, when Ifinished, I was like, oh,
I wish I could relaxed earlier. But I feel like for somebody who does

(17:11):
it a few times, after youdo the first one, you'll just be
ready to get right into it.And I love that you have a couple's
option. So again, where canwe go to get more information and to
book our stay, you can goto www. Carolon Hotel dot com.
And you know, like I said, all the information of all the touch

(17:32):
lists, all our experiences, andone last thing, we do offer two
hundred and fifty fitness classes a weekanywhere from t RX, something very difficult
to ballet, so we have somethingfor everyone. Great. Well, I
cannot wait to visit you again atTammy Pal. Thank you so much for
joining me today on Passport Mommy. You're listening to Passport Mommy. I'm Michelle

(17:56):
Jerson. Are you excited for theOscars? I'm so excited for the Oscars.
I always am, but you knowwhat, I actually am more excited
about And I know this is silly, but not really, because I'm so
excited that I get to talk tolash Ferry again this year. Because I
was introduced to whose Everyone Wins Nomineegift bags last year. And they're not

(18:17):
affiliated anyway with the Oscars or theAcademy Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences,
but they produce through distinctive assets. It's the LA based entertainment marketing company credited
with transforming celebrity gifting into a popcultural phenomenon. And I had the opportunity
to sample some of what the nomineeswill receive, and so I'm so happy

(18:40):
to have lash Back on the showwith me today to talk about all of
these great products and just how coolit is that we get these swag bags
and so do all of the topnominees. High lash him. So great
to chat with you again. Thankyou. So talk to me a little
bit about distinctive assets. So weconnect brands with celebrities and high profile events,
and sometimes we're on site and official, like we were a few weeks

(19:03):
ago at the Grammys was my twentyfourth Grammys. Crazy enough, time flies
and sometimes events make more sense likethis one, we're unofficial. And what's
amazing for me about that is thatI like the Grammys where I'm told who
I get the gifts to, whichis the one hundred and fifty percenters and
performers. In this case, Iget to decide. So I decided there
twenty first year putting this together, that we would just gift the top acting

(19:26):
and directing nominees. So it's twentysix people this year who are going to
be receiving our gift bag, whichjust happens to be worth one hundred and
twenty six thousand dollars per gift backthis year. Incredible. So tell me
about some of the items in thisgift bag. Well, I know you've
got a few of them. Andlegitimately, one of the things I love

(19:47):
about my job and delivering to knowthese incredible performers is sharing products that I'm
using. So if you transported yourselfhere to my bathroom right now and opened
my cabinet, you would see somany of these scare products right there because
I've been using the relationship like miyageor skincare. This is a five hundred
and fifteen dollars set that the nomineeis going to be getting a five piece
collection. It's based on human stemcell science. I mean I can personally

(20:11):
attest for what this will do toyour skin. Uses waters, micromolocu formulas,
Incredible miyages. We also have aproduct it's a vegan rent nolf from
Eco MD. This is clean consciousskincare. So for all your listeners who
that's their core issue they want tomake sure all their skincare is clean,
conscious, cruelty free, they haveto check out Eco MD. We have

(20:32):
a couple of Oprah's favorite things theChi box. This is a female owned
company. Their Chi concentrate is absolutelyincredible. We have the Beauty Tea Company,
another female owned company doing their looseleaf teas. We even have cliff
Fins, the least expensive item inthe gift bag. The share a great
snack on the go. And Ican't say, oh aren't they great?
Have you tried the fins? Becausethe finns are thin and crispy and I

(20:55):
just really really love that new product. And then one of my favorite things,
Oh yeah, fast, so fastyou go through them. And then
we have a company called Batiale. This year they made gourmet hand harvested dates.
I had never had a date.I have to say the food date
I've had, but the food date. And they come with the most exquisite
boxes. And Batille has done fordates what let's say, goodbad or chocolate.

(21:19):
The packaging is so incredible, thepresentation, all these different flavors,
They've got all different price points. It makes such a great gift. Yes,
and I will say so again, thank you for sending me a sample
of what the nominees are going toreceive. And I have to say,
my kids went through the cliff Thinsright away. They went through the Belgian

(21:41):
chocolate covered pretzels right away. Pretzelsback with us, I think for the
fifth year. They have always beena hit. Yes, definitely, And
like you said, the clean skincareand that's amazing. I'm still going through
and reading all of the products andI personally love clean skincare, and so
I'm really excited because, like yousaid, there are a bunch of different

(22:02):
items that's really perfect for all momsand anybody who's really just looking forward to
taking care of their skin a lotbetter than they are now. You know,
another great product for moms is aproduct called effect a cow. So
this is a calcium supplement, whichI know it doesn't sound particularly sexy,
but it's so useful. It's fromCino Veta and they have done the special

(22:22):
formulation where it drastically improves the absorptionof the calcium into your body. So
these are folks who are all sortsof ages. We also have pro Flexa,
which is a joint and tamer.I'm getting older and older by the
day. I'm not as Almo asgen Hurst, but I'm getting there.
So we try to include those kindof products. Also, another great mommy
product I think is tran queinie. This is a sparkling beverage that's got adaptagens

(22:45):
in it, so it just kindof helps you have a moment of zen
and calm and relaxation after a longand stressful day. Yes, and we
all need that. And also thecoconut water that was in the package also
very useful for electrolytes. And Iforgot how much I love coconut water right
harmless harvest. It's organic they've gotwith pulpman without the other product that moms

(23:08):
need to know about. It's abrand new product, another female owned product,
and it takes a woman to comeup with something that's going to change
a woman's life, I think.And it's called the foot cloud. And
these are cushions for your feet sothat whether you're wearing stilettos on the red
carpet or you're having to run aroundrunning errands for your kids and after school
and stuff, it just makes yourshoes so much more comfortable. And they

(23:30):
come in shape so they're jelly pieces. But for women of color, they've
got darker shades so that it doesn'tstand out if you're wearing an open to
shoe. Yes, I love thoseand let me tell you my kids.
They had a sample on the boxbefore you open the actual boxes with them
in it, and right away theystuck them on their feet and I couldn't
get the bottle I give them backto way. They're like, we want
to sleep with them. That's adorable. You know the other thing I'd love

(23:53):
And I hadn't really thought about ittill I started chatting with you. I
haven't been talking to a lot ofmoms about the back yet, so it's
as I'm sitting here looking at myproducts, I'm like, you know what
I think another great gift would beis a book called Gods and Shackles that
we've included. Last year we includeda book called Tree, and months later
Christen Stewart was doing an interview withChanel of All Places on their website about

(24:15):
our favorite books, and she startedtalking about Tree and how it did intended
her life. So the book thisyear, Gods and Shackles. I think
it's a great way to teach kidsabout animal rights and about elephants and about
what we can learn from animals inthe world and how humans interact with them.
Yes, absolutely, And you knowwhat two other books that came in

(24:36):
the package, which I think isgoing to be great. Is one of
them. It's a journal I forget. I think it's called the Human Being
Book Journal. Yes, good memory, that's exactly what it is. The
Human Being Journal from a Horror Mindfulness, another female owned brand from Canada.
I happen to love journals and writingand despite all of our technology, there's
something about pen to paper, LikeI still make physical lists on a piece

(24:57):
of paper so that I can crossthem off with the fin So the journaling
this is sort of like self guidedtherapy. It's a really way to have
daily manifestations of happiness in your life. Yeah, and it's true. And
you know what again, I'll justgo back to as moms, I feel
like we need to reflect on thatbecause we get so overwhelmed with our day
to day that we have to sitback and say, Okay, what am

(25:18):
I grateful for? What is goingon? And I believe that writing it
down really just helps us work throughwhat's going on in our life and our
thoughts and everything around it. Andso there was also something for men,
I think for men and women. It was a shampoo that was made by
bomb and Medical and that is likea comprehensive hair restoration service and hair wellness

(25:41):
products. So tell me about that. That is a seven thousand dollars gift
set from Balman Medical Doctor Alabama isone of the countries leading hair restoration surgeons,
so he is offering hair restoration services, but he also has product lines
as you mentioned their Balman MD inshower treatments which help you keep the hair
you got as strong and healthy aspossible, and also supplements. So this

(26:03):
is targeted to men of course, but women suffered from alopecia as we all
very famously know with Jada Pinkett Smithand so whatever the issue might be with
your hair, doctor Bauman is usinghis years of expertise to help. Yeah,
and the Jambies so comfortable, Yes, for sure. Jambies are like

(26:23):
a mom's best friend because I lovetheir tagline which is performance in Active where
so it's all about being able tobe comfortable at home while you're doing a
billion things to do right exactly.Okay, So now talk to me about
the two trips that were included forthe nominees. There are two epic trips

(26:44):
this year. We have Farro PuntaImperatora. This is an Italian lighthouse that's
been converted into a luxury hotel wherethey can go with up to seven of
their friends. It is considered oneof the Mediterranean's best kept island secrets.
Such a fablished trips with about ninethousand dollars and then the most expensive item
tripper otherwise is a forty thousand dollarsescape to a Canadian ultramodern estate called the

(27:08):
Lifestyle. It comes with all theamenities, stocked fridge, even fancy cars
and the garage that they could drivewhile they're there. Amazing. Where is
this place in Canada? It isjust outside of Ottawa. What I love
about it is someone who sort ofa homebody. I don't like groups and
lots of people around. When youdo the aerial sort of zoom out of

(27:29):
the resort or the estate, rather, there's nothing but trees for acres and
acres and acres around. So it'svery secluded and very celebrity friendly. Oh,
very nice. I'm gonna have tolook into it. Is it do
you know? Is it adults onlyor well, it's a huge place,
so there's definitely room to you know, bring the family. Okay, great,
Well, I'm gonna I'm sure, forty thousand dollars. I'm just going

(27:52):
to look into that, but itsounds amazing and I am going to check
it out. And you know, when we go on vacation, I know
that there were some beach getaway flipflops from Hobby on us. We just
had Hobby on a backstage at theGrammys with us a few weeks ago.
They were so popular we were like, we have to include with the nominee.
So they picked out a selection foreach of the nominee, specifically for

(28:15):
them, styles and sizes that theythought they would like, and they have
brand new luggage. It is sobright and colorful. It's these two hundred
dollars carry on roller bags. Theladies are getting pink and orange tones,
the guys are getting orange and bluetones, and it's just sort of a
fun burst of summer in your travelaccessories. It's so exciting that you're part
of all of these great events. What other events do you have coming up?

(28:38):
We've got a Mother's Day in Hollywoodevent coming up. We celebrate Mother's
Day every year by picking twenty fivethe new moms who also happened to be
actresses or singers, and we givethem an amazing gift bag, and then
we're going to do it for thefirst time an event with the iconic,
the amazing, fabulous Thoroly Ralph, who has been having the year of her
career between Abbot Elementary and performing atthe Super Bowl, and she is doing

(29:02):
I think it's for the thirty secondor thirty third year a diva simply singing
fundraising events. So we're going tobe treating all the amazing performers there with
some great gifts too. Amazing. And you also work with Fortune one hundred
companies and startups. Everyone from bigbig companies to really really small startups we
work with I particularly always love workingwith small companies. Over half the items

(29:25):
to make effect this year are fromsmall businesses, female owned businesses, black
owned businesses, and it's always verygratifying to have them benefit from what we
do and from the potential access tocelebrities exactly, And I do love that.
Like you said, they are smallcompanies, they are, but yet
with big products, like with amazingproducts like all of these great vegan you

(29:47):

you joining me today on passport Mommy, thanks for having me. So I
live in New York City and thereare all these wellness places hopping up in
my neighborhood, including a Madison Readcolor bar, and I was really excited
about this because I don't know aboutyou, but my grays are growing in
and it's always a challenge to figureout, Okay, where do I go
to get them covered up? Wherecan I go to get my hair highlighted?

(31:15):
That's not an arm in the leg. And so when I saw that
Madison Read was right around the cornerfor me, I was really excited because
they have many locations in New YorkCity, Texas, South Florida, California,
and Chicago, over eighty locations nationwide, and they offer a really cool
membership. So if you're somebody whoseroots are always coming in and you're like,

(31:37):
I don't want to see these rootsat all, they offer an unlimited
roots membership. It's for under eightydollars a month. You get your roots
done as often as you need to. They also do root touch ups,
glosses, highlights, bolliage blowouts.I ended up doing a highlight and lowlights
service, which actually ended up blendingmy grays perfectly and with the highlights and

(31:57):
lowlights, and they did an absolutelyspectacular job. And also it's awesome about
Madison read which I personally love,is they're smart eight free ingredients. There
is no ammonia or parabins in anyof their products. They are gluten free
and cruelty free. And they sella whole line of products that you can
take home with you and easily coloryour own hair if you wanted to.

(32:20):

Again, that's Madison Dashreed dot com. Enter Michelle fifteen at purchase. You're
listening to Passport Mommy. I'm MichelleJerson and I cannot believe we are already

(32:45):
preparing for daylight Saving Time on Marchtwelfth. I can't believe that you're already.
I'm very happy. But you knowwhat, it's a great time also
to talk about National Highway traffic safetyand for that we have with us today
doctor Stephen Radella. He is theDirector of Office of Defects Investigation for the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Hi, doctor Udalla, thanks for joining me

(33:05):
today. I Michel glad to behere. Thank you. So tell me
a little bit about Vehicle Safety RecallsWeek and why does it fall around daylight
saving time? Well, the nationalewith Traffic Safety Administration, and we're all
about safety and we know that we'realways trying to find ways of educating people
about safety. Our mission is safetyof your vehicles, and recalls are an

(33:30):
important thing. Recalls happen more oftenthan ever. In fact, in twenty
twenty two alone, there were elevenhundred safety recalls that affected over thirty two
million vehicles from pieces of equipment liketires and child seats. So we felt
that people should become more aware ofthis and we're trying ways of doing it,
and Annual Recall Week was one wayto do that. If you're changing

(33:50):
your clouds forward, changing batteries inyour smoke alarm, doing spring planting,
cleaning, how it's another thing todo to keep your family, the loved
ones and people around you safe.Is a check for open safety recalls.
Because they happen so often, itcould be possible you have a recall.
Great time to get it checked aswell. As in the fall when clocks
go back right exactly. And sowhy are recalls so important to just stay

(34:12):
on top of. Well, everyrecall is what's considered an unreasonable risk to
safety. That means, when thatdefect is happening, it could cause a
crash in new vehicle, it couldcause a loss of power in new vehicle
that someone else might hit you.A lot of different reasons why recalls take
place. So because they're all relatedto safety, they're all important to do.

(34:32):
So getting them fixed and repaired andrepaired for free by your local dealership
is one way to keep yourself andyour family's faith great. And so how
can we find out if our vehiclehas an open recall? Manufacturer declares a
recall, they're supposed to send youone first class letter that describes the recall,
describes the risk to you as alsowhere to get that vehicle fixed.

(34:58):
But if you didn't see that orthrough it out for some reason, we
have other options, which is ourwebsite, which is NHTSA dot CoV slash
Recalls, and there you put inyour seventeen digit vehicle identification number which is
found in the lower left side ofyour windshield or inside the driver's side door
jam. Entering that into our websitegives an immediate ping back whether or not

(35:21):
you have a safety recall in thatvehicle. We also have a hotline eight
eight three two seven four two threesix where operators will take your vehicle dentification
number and then let you know whetheror not there's a recall and where to
get it fixed. And finally,we have an app called Safer Car available
for both Android and iOS phones. It's free to download. You enter your

(35:44):
vin into that. You can enteryour family's vins into it, your child
seat, make a model as wellas tires, and you'll get notifications sent
you immediately if a recall is declaredon those vehicles or equipment. Great.
And so if a recall is declare, how do we go about getting its
serviced? And is there any chargeto us? First of all, there

(36:06):
is no charge. We want tomake that totally clear. Recalls are always
free, and we like to saythey last a long time, and so
immediately call your dealer when you getthat notice or find out there's an open
recall. Call them up and theyhave technicians available. If the parts are
available to get it, they'll doit immediately. Again it's for absolutely free

(36:27):
at no charge. Great. Andso just in general the work that you
do, how does keeping track ofvehicle recalls in general on your end what
you do, and then for whatwe can do on our own end,
how does it keep the roads saferkeeping track of safety recalls? My office
does investigations and the potential defects, and so by signing those defects and asking
manufacturers to do recalls or manufacturers maydeclare recalls on their own, we feel

(36:51):
that by all that taking place, vehicles themselves are safer, and which implies
it obviously the people driving them, those inside of vehicle and those around it
are safe, right exactly. Andyou've been at your position for seventeen years,
so you've definitely had a hand inkeeping us all so safe on the
roadways. So thank you for that, my pleasure. It's it's been a

(37:15):
very fun and interesting job, Ican imagine. And so we have about
a minute left. What other tipsdo you have for us to just keep
us the safe safest that we canbe on the roadways. Well by checking
those for those recalls all the timeon our website at NHTSA dot gov slash
recalls or using the Safer Car app. Always good to check that on a

(37:37):
regular basis and get notifications of recallsand then go ahead and get them fixed.
Yes, your car safety is numberone to us and by doing so,
you keep yourself safe and us,like I said, your family safe,
and we are. Our mission isto drive down the number of vehicle
accidents and deaths that occur in ourroadways every years. You know, during
pandemic there was there was an increaseand so by doing this for hoping that

(38:00):
lives are saved every day. Great. Thank you so much, doctor Stephen
Ridella. I appreciate you joining metoday on Pastport Mommy. My pleasure and
myself. Thank here and thank youso much for joining me this week on
Passport Mommy. Have a wonderful week.
