Distinction is internationally syndicated solely due to the love and
support that you all continue to give. We're available across
all major distributors, and as long as you keep following,
we're going to continue to put out the content. Now,
(00:47):
sit back and strap in because on the line with
us today we have the oppressive LM. Mors and we're
going to be discussing her wonderful novel, The Return New Calling,
and not listen to me. People, you're gonna want to
check out Amazon, Barnes and Noble, put do yourself a
favor man, type it into a search bar, and sit back.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Okay, because LM has been putting in some work and
she's only just begun. Because this New Calling, it's a sequel.
All right, so there's a first book. That one is
called The Return New Beginnings. But yet it's not just
two of them things. Okay, there's a third one still
in creation, hopefully a lot more still yet to come.
(01:32):
You're gonna want to check back in frequently again Amazon,
Barnes and Noble. But like I mentioned, do some research
because also, yeah, it's gonna be featured at a book
fair in Frankfurt, Germany in October. So if you happen
to be in the area, stop by, check it out,
pick up one of the copies. Okay, and listen. It
(01:54):
is an absolute pleasure to have LM here on the line. Man,
listen her novel. Is there something that's gonna keep you
at the edge of your seat. It's gonna have you
not stop, page churning and hooked on every word. What
if the Apocalypse wasn't the end but actually the beginning
(02:14):
of something even wilder? This is something straight out of
a Hollywood film, okay, because in her book, Magic crashes
into our world uninvited, leaving chaos, impossible choices, and a
ragtag family of misfits to figure it out on the fly.
(02:35):
But here's the twist. Power without rules means every decision
could save lives or potentially cost them.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Sit back, strap in.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
We're gonna take a deep dive today with the brilliant
mind behind this electrifying tale to uncover the secrets of
this phenomenal novel. And I promise you, once you start
to hear what she's saying, you're gonna jump past New
Calling because you're gonna realize I gotta start at the beginning.
(03:07):
I gotta go pick up New Beginnings and then continue
on the journey. And then, hopefully by the time you've
concluded New Calling, the third, the fourth, hopefully the fifth, sixth, seventh,
I don't even know, man, you're gonna keep on coming.
Hopefully they're all available for purchase as well. Sip back
and strap in.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
LM.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
First and foremost welcome to people of Distinction, and thank
you very much for being with us.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
How are you doing today?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
I'm doing well, and thank you for having me.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Absolutely listen, it's a pleasure to have you here. I'm
always looking not only for new books, but as someone
that you know, as my background is in filmmaking, I
live in my imagination. This is something right up my alley. Okay,
my wife is the much more grounded one out of
out of the two of us. So for me, I
(03:55):
yearn for something like this that'll just take me on
a journey, get me away from the monotony of day
to day, and your book is doing that. So I'm
looking forward to this discussion. Thank you for writing it,
Thank you even more for being here with us to
discuss it. Start off by telling us a little bit
more about yourself and your background.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
I'm just a lowly tsa worker.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
People, be careful the next time you take a flight,
you might just happen to run into LM without even
knowing it.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
All right here, it is Elle for become a character. Yo,
that's potentially true as well.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
We'll change the names. Don't worry, you won't be directly involved.
But let's jump into your novel. Okay, what inspired you
to write it? Where did you even get the idea
for such a thing?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
The whole thing started with a bunch of emails to
a friend of mine. He wrote one and he's come
back tomorrow for a part two, And I'm like, I
can do that too, except mine just kept going and
he kept going, what's next? What happens next? So I
just stuck them all together and tried to make it
into a book. And then number two was some of
(05:07):
the stuff I'd already had, and I just kept going,
It's been fun.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Love it Okay.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
So started off just as a little email tag between
you and a friend and developed into this story. But
it could have just stayed in the personal shelf, right,
you didn't necessarily have to publish it and put it
out for the world. I'm curious to know. Don't get
me wrong, I'm glad you did it, But what inspired
you to take that step?
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Like I said, he kept saying what happens next? And
because a lot of my coworkers and friends and stuff,
I made them characters, They're like, what do one do it?
Speaker 2 (05:42):
No, everybody wants to be involved?
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Say that, and I'm like, I sure did. And then
I'm like, like, y'all I get I'm going to send
it in and get it published.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Why not everybody wants to be involved? It's a it's
a happy family here. And that brings up a great
point LM. Because we come to discover this band of
not so average people in the New Bigs, the message
behind it. If it's to be pulled by readers, of course,
(06:10):
as you've mentioned, written more so for entertainment, but there's
definitely those messages to be found in terms of so
overall unity and acceptance regardless of backgrounds and differences. And listen,
as someone who leads a podcast and a lot of
my clients and guests come from backgrounds of humanitarianism or
(06:31):
religious views and things of that nature. I talk about
that constantly, the importance of that unity and coming together
and acceptance. I'm curious what makes this group feel like
a family despite their differences.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
I guess that comes from us working so closely. Again,
we are like a work family, and because we're friends,
we hang out when we're not at work. And I'm
curious to know how to gel together.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
I guess you could say, are you talking about yourself
and all of the people around you that the characters
are based on, or are you talking about the characters
in the book.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Both because some of my friends I made them characters.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Okay, Well, let's play a little Devil's Advocate here, Okay,
and we since your friends are so closely tied to it,
they understand which characters they're based on. I'm gonna ask here,
and you might upset one or two of them. But
let's ruffle some feathers. Okay, if is there a character
who maybe shouldn't have been given magic, and if so,
(07:37):
why not.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yet or at least none in our group. There's lots
of characters out there that shouldn't have been given magic,
and we run into them constantly. But we all think
of it as or the characters all think of it as,
with power comes, you either do right with it or
most people are going to do wrong with it.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
With great power comes, great.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Characters are trying to do the right thing.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Yeah, yeah, all right, listen, Without further ado, let's jump
into the novel itself, the return New Calling.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Tell us more about it.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
It's one of those things that at the very end
of the first book, the second book takes off right there.
I like a good cliffhanger, you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
absolutely so, Yeah, it takes off right there, and it's
one of those they get into more trouble the characters do.
They find more interesting people and they call new beings.
(08:36):
So it's it could be a blend of something. It
could be people who can now shape change, or just
there's one new being.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
He's our pardon me, She is a mix of two critters, okay,
a mole and a worm, except she's huge and eating people.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
It happens.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
It gets hungry, world, it happens.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
You just gotta take it.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
Unfortunately. Yes, but when she comes up out of the
ground the way I described it, you'll be like, oh
my God, and you just haang your head and giggle
because it's strange.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
You have it.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Okay, there's no faith, but there's Yeah, it's a phallic symbol.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
That's an image there for you. We're just gonna leave
you on that. People, you understand. Hell, let's go into
the let's go into the writing process here. Okay.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I'm curious to know because one thing that I often
hear from other authors that we have on the network,
especially ones that have written fictional novels in the sense
that this one is of course. One thing that I
hear a lot is when they start writing. Man, once
the momentum goes, once the creative juices start flowing, it's
(09:54):
almost as if the characters in the world being constructed
can tend to take on a life of its own
almost and really start to write itself.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
In a way. I'm curious to.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Know you had any experience with that when you were writing,
were there any particular characters or scenes that maybe in
your mind you envisioned it going one way, but as
you started to develop it, it just took a turn
for something else entirely unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Yes, unfun.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Then you have to sit there and look at it
and go, Okay, that's like a dark turn. We don't
want to go that way. We want to still stay.
We want the snark to come out. We don't want
the ooh. So yes, it's done that several times, and
I've had to go back and go, no, that's a
little too dark. To light it up a little here.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Well, I'm intrigued now, and I'm not gonna ask because
I can tell you don't want to give every anything away,
So I'm just going to direct everyone once again. You
got to head on over to Amazon and Barnes and
Noble and purchase your copies. Remember we're talking about the
Return New Calling. Remember that's a sequel the original, which
is the Return New Beginnings. And there is a lot
(11:04):
more on the horizon that you're going to want to
check out. In addition, also, if you happen to be
in Germany come this October, check out the Frankfurt book
fear because this book is going to be represented there
and you're going to want to get your hands on
a copy for everybody else. It doesn't happen to be
in that beautiful country. It just had onto Amazon and
(11:25):
Barnes and Noble. It's your next best thing, LM. As
you were developing really both of these stories, Okay, this
one's not going to be limited to New Calling. Although
I'm curious throughout this writing process, what was a highlight
for you? What was something that you really enjoyed or
something that maybe even surprised you.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Being able to write it was the biggest surprise. I'm
not a writer, but hey it came together really well.
And everyone I talked to or read a snippet of
do they like that's good?
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Like, listen, I'm gonna I'm gonna point something out here
for you. I know you say you're not a writer,
and listen. Maybe that was the belief that you once held,
but people, listen. When you research the book, you're gonna
see New Beginnings and New Calling are both over four
hundred pages, and then that's only two in an installment
(12:25):
that's gonna continue to come. So not a writer, I'm
gonna push back on that. Maybe you didn't believe so,
but clearly, Elm, there was something there because you had
a lot to say as well.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
Okay, I'll give you that.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
That's a fair point.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
That's a fair point, Benji. All right, as we move
on here, listen, I want to have a little want
to have a little fun of curiosity for myself. So
you have a band of characters here, all very eclectic,
varying groups of people here, all with different powers. If
the world were to change tomorrow and all of a
sudden magic suddenly became real, which characters approach to it
(13:06):
would you take on? Which character's powers would you like
to have as your own.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
That's a good question. I'm going to say a little
bit of everything, because you're gonna need a little bit
of everything. I don't.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
That's a good one, so you can take your time.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
There's some people who are super smart. There's some people
who are good with things. The lead character, I guess
with the doctor Doolittle Gig is my favorite.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
The doctor. Sorry, that's my favorite, you say, doctor. So
does the lead character talk to animals?
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Yes? And because the lead character can talk to animals
and they talk back, they learn, and when they learn,
they share with other animals, because you know, different animals
can coexist. Yeah, she talks to them, they learn from her,
they teach others.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
I tell you.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
So, now you have a bunch of really smart animals
running around out there.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
There's not a day that goes by that I don't
wonder what my dog.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
Is thinking about me.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
If only I could talk to him, My goodness, it's
kind of like one of those things like if only
walls could talk.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Imagine the stories that they would tell, because.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
I'm sure my dog would probably have a bone or
two to pick with me sometimes, especially when it comes
to giving him his medication and he hates it, and
I'm sure he would give me a piece of his mind.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Maybe it's best that I don't know what he's thinking.
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
That's when I'm trimming toenails. Oh no, I want to
know what you're thinking.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
We love them all the same, though, we love them
all the same as we close out of here. Listen,
this has been such a fun time. Your books are incredible.
They're definitely something just wonderfully intriguing, and I can easily
see being translated into the big screen, anything else you'd
like to tell our listening audience before we let you go.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
I just hope they enjoy it. It's snarky. You'll either
laugh or be grossed out, one of the two.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I love it. People, listen, I'm telling you this book
is a perfect mixture. Man.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
It is.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
It's thrilling, it's chaotic, it's.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
It also has a deeply human side to it. Like
I mentioned when we first began, it might not be
out in your face, it might not be preachy, but
there is something to be recognized when it comes to
that family dichotomy in a sense, right where just because
someone may be different or maybe not necessarily a blood relative,
(15:41):
doesn't mean that they aren't family or that a family
can't be established. And I think that's a great message.
So entertainment, yeah, these books got it in spades, but
something that you can take to the bank, something that
you can build off of and learn from.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
To a certain degree, I think it's got it.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
And again, this is not the time for it, but
we you don't have to look too far and to
see what is happening currently in this country, in this world,
and recognize that we are so divided.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
There are.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
There's a lot of reasons that a book like this
that not only is entertaining, can take you away from
all of that chaos, could also maybe teach you something
and bring you back to a grounded state and hopefully
look at those.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Around you in a new light.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Telling you these books got what you need. It's Amazon,
it's Barnes and Noble. Check back in frequently and get
them all once they're available. Starts with the Return New Beginnings,
moving on to the sequel, the Return New Calling, and
a lot more after that. LM, this has been an
absolute delight. Honestly, such a fun discussion. I appreciate you
(16:54):
for all of that. Thank you once again for being
a guest. People of Distinction, thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Come down to
