I'm Jade, I'm Kara, andI'm Erica, and this is Perfectly Marvelous,
a podcast dedicated to the magnificent, the magical, the Marvelous Missus masil.
Oh goodness, we are so excitedto be back. Yeah, I
missed you guys. I know.Oh, it's been too long. It's

(01:21):
been too long. I know.Yeah. The last time when we spoke
to Austin Bassis, we had sucha blast and listeners, if you guys
haven't checked out that interview, seriously, you gotta do it. So much
good behind the scenes stories. It'slike he transported us to the set.
You know, he's such a goodstoryteller, and he was just so generous

(01:42):
with his time. I just couldnot have asked for anything more. Austin.
We love you. We love youman so much. It was great.
And yeah, for those of youwondering where that or sorry, Kara,
did you want to say something,No, it's gonna say. I
want to know if his nephew wonhis baseball game. Oh my god,
invested, Yes, I have toask them. So for those of you

(02:06):
guys wondering where the heck are matilda'sidigiousinterview is, we assure you it is
coming. We had a bunch ofa bunch of crazy stuff happened, Like
we intended to record this listener feedbackepisode way way sooner, but you know,
stuff got in the way we gotthere was like a bug going around
the whole world. Everyone was gettingsick, and then we had some work
stuff and Matilda was out of townand so everything kind of wasn't working out

(02:30):
with our schedules. But we willbe. We have, you know,
spoken with her and we're definitely goingto be getting that interview done the first
week of July, so that shouldbe coming out really soon and there's still
plenty of time to email us withany questions that you guys have for her.
So if you want us to askher anything, let us know.
But for today, guess what servit is. It's listen up feedback time.

(02:54):
And you know, I'm so sorryyou guys, like we haven't done
this sooner, Like we know it'shighly possible that like no one will listen
to this, but we just wantedto come back, you know, have
some FaceTime with y'all and just thankour listeners, you know, face to
face. We are doing this asa video episode as well. So but
okay, before we get into allof that, like, we got some

(03:15):
stuff to tell you guys, sowe gotta. We got to bring you
some announcements we got right now, they can see my tits up come.
Yeah, it's on Etsy if youwant one link in the description. Yeah,
yeah, Yes, we have someexciting changes that perfectly marvelous. We
have launched two new Facebook groups, one for the marvelous Missus Mazel and one

(03:37):
for only Murders in the Building, and we long for you guys to join
us over on Facebook. In bothof those groups, we'll be putting up
listener feedback posts there every single weekfor our Missus mazel rewatch and for Only
Murders in the Building, which isstarting really soon. So August eighth is
when the new season premieres, whichis fantastic, And we really encourage you

(04:00):
guys to post anything that you findfor masal updates, like pictures, videos,
memes, whatever you've got, becausei know we already missed the show,
so I'm sure you guys do too. I know. That's why I'm
so glad we're doing this now, because I thought it was going to be
like a bummer having this much timein between episodes, in between listener feedback

(04:21):
episodes, But I think it's kindof good because it gives people a little
bit of a break, you know, and then when we can pop back
into your feed, it's like alittle a little surprised that you didn't know
you were going to get, like, oh they're back, Hey, we're
so here. Yeah, I gota little something for you. So yeah,
and like I said, we're doingsomething super cool. So starting with
this episode, we we've started aPatreon page well, and so now we

(04:45):
plan on releasing our listener feedback episodesseparately. We're gonna do listener feedback as
a whole separate episode from now onbecause since that happy accident that happened where
we had to do it for thefinale, I've actually found that it does
make the editing process a little biteasier and it makes the podcast a little
more digestible for those you know, crazy motherfuckers who don't love to listen to

(05:08):
us for three to four hours ata stretch. You know, what are
those two whatever? Yeah? Soyeah, So we're gonna do listener feedback
episodes separately, and we're going todo them as We're also going to record
the video for our listener feedback becauseI just love to you know, the
idea of like showing you guys thejoy and delight on our actual faces when

(05:29):
we need listener feedback, just soyou can see if you don't get it,
like through my voice enough, LikeI really love listener feedback. It's
like crack to me, it's truelistener feedback crack. So oh I should
start calling it that now m Jade'sdrug. Yes, I need muffis so

(05:50):
yeah. So yeah. For thevery low price of merely five dollar hairs
a month, you can listen tous at three and you can watch the
our feedback episodes and you can justsee the joy that you're bringing us on
our little faces every time you writeit. So, yes, all of
our podcasts from now on will beavailable on Patreon ad free. Right now,

(06:10):
we only have Unfortunately I haven't gotall the episodes saved on my computer,
but I was able to put upepisodes eight, nine and the finale
feedback episode, as well as ourinterview with Austin Bassis. So all of
those episodes are available ad free onPatreon. Only five bucks. Guys,
how can you beat that? Andyou get a video? It's like it's
it's I mean, let us know, let us know if five dollars is

(06:32):
too much. I'm worried that itmight be too much for some people.
But all I can do is judgeit off of like the amount of time
we put into our broadcast, whichis like I mean broadcasts, but our
recordings whatever, which is like ifyou put a lot of time and love
into this, and you know myediting time is extensive, it's it's a
lot. So especially when we havea lot of white noise coming from one's

(06:57):
audio. Kara lives in a verynoisy area, we've learned, But I
will say my Chi latte yesterday waslike six dollars and forty five cents,
right, so you know my mygreen juice. You know, budget is
like how much I spend on justfucking green juice everything every day? Yeah?

(07:18):
Yeah, so instead of your greenjuice, maybe one day, maybe
go without your green juice or yourlatte and throw the throw the five bucks
to perfectly Marvelous. You know,if you can swing it, we really
appreciate it. And like I said, if it's too much for you,
guys, if you need us tolower the price, just let us know.
And um so yeah, the linkfor all of that is in the
show notes, so check it out. And if you can become a patron

(07:40):
of Perfectly Marvelous, we would superappreciate it. So please and thank you,
and now and now, without furtherado, let's stop the show.
Bitches, tits up tite in mypost and when living again and having a

(08:05):
mom ay, I'm afraid it wouldn'twork, So before we start, we
have a couple of fun news thingsthat I want to share. Of course,
Kevin Pollock's amazing podcast has come outright after we started recording, or
after we recorded our last episode. His podcast came out, which is perfect
timing, right, like, rightas you're losing perfectly marvelous, you're getting

(08:28):
some Kevin Pollock. There's always morepodcasting, you know, room to go
around. So we love that he'sdoing these awesome interviews which have been spectacular.
First one with Luke Kirby just mademe fall in love with Luke Kirby
even and the second one with MichaelZegan was so good, Yes, so
good. He was so great. He went really like in depth on like

(08:50):
behind the scenes stuff. I lovehow he just like austin the way that
he like tells a story and theway that he recounts things that had that
happened. He's got a really clear, vivid and so enthusiastic about it,
Like you can tell much they lovetheir time on that show. We loved
each other and through yeah, andI know it just enhances my joy for

(09:13):
the show even one. Yeah.Yeah, so we've got so we're going
to link his his podcast in thedescription. We've also another podcast is the
Wtf Mark Marin interview episode with AmySherman Palladino totally required reading for any masal
head. She like, she hasso much cool stuff to say. It's
so much about you know, whatgoes into the show and the making of

(09:35):
it and everything. She just talksabout her family, her dad, her
inspiration for starting writing the show. It's it's amazing, it's great. It
was so interesting. Like I knewher dad was a stand up comedian,
but the depth and detail that shewent into and kind of more behind the
scenes what fed into you know, the whole Johnny Carson thing and wanting just

(10:00):
stand up to be real and authentic. I was just like, man,
they put so much work into theshow and the details that she pays attention
to. That's why it's so good, because yeah, really give a shit
about that stuff and it helps.Yes, it's incredible. Yep. And

(10:22):
yeah, there's another podcast called andI'm shocked that I hadn't found it until
just now. It's called Actors withIssues. It's an They have an episode
interviewing Alfie Fuller, Caroline Aaron, and Kevin Pollock. It's a great podcast,
And yeah, I just loved listeningto those interviews. Alfie Fuller is
so cute and we're trying to getan interview with her. Hopefully, hopefully
we can reach out to her people. We're going to reach out to Caroline

(10:43):
Aaron, We're going to reach outto Kevin Pollock. We're trying to get
more interviews all the time for MissusMasil, And yeah, I think that
I think that they were all reallybusy right after the show. Like during
the show, they we didn't wantto interview anybody because we wanted them to
be able to speak freely about theirexperience without having to worry about spoilers.
And then right after the show ended, Um, I think they were all
really busy with like press tours andstuff. So now we're starting to get

(11:05):
some more responses and everything, andwe have more time to reach out to
these people. So I've got adefinite feeling that we'll have more interviews for
you guys to come. And youknow, we're going to continue the Missus
Mazel podcast. We're going to dothe rewatch. We're not sure when we're
going to be able to start it, but it is happening. We're gon
we're gonna do it. So evenduring all that, well will hopefully have
more more Masal cast members to interview. So yeah, there's also another really

(11:31):
great interview with Tony Shaloub. It'san NPR interview and you can read it
or listen to it. And theytalk to Tony about his whole acting career,
that he talks a lot about Monkand like his theater work, Yeah,
the plays he's done, some ofthe new stuff he's working on,
and he talks about his time onMarvelous Missus Basil. So that's an excellent
I listened to it and it's it'sexcellent. I need to add that to

(11:54):
my list. Yeah, it's reallygood. And then there is something I
want to play a little clip fromthis Alex Borstein interview. It's on the
terrifying act of exploring Susie's vulnerability inthe final season. So I'm going to
play this video for you guys. And because Susie is so guarded, did

(12:15):
you ever kind of create your ownbackstory like this? Were you thinking of
those things as you went on thejourney with her? Not so much?
You know, I always decided peoplewill always ask about Susie's sexuality and Susie's
history that way, and my backstory, you know, I never want to
know too much. I think knowingtoo much, knowing what Amy has in

(12:37):
mind alters the way you're playing thepresent. Had I known about Hetty,
I would have played her as thoughshe was hiding something always and keeping something
in there, and and I preferhaving played her as though she was able
to compartmentalize whatever that was because Ididn't know about it and move on and

(13:00):
move forward. And for me,that was the right way to play it.
And I think I always said,Susie never had the luxury of I
don't know, pitying herself. Shedidn't have a luxury of sitting around and
pining and wanting. And it washow am I going to eat? How
am I going to pay my rent? Very practical things, and she romanticized

(13:24):
success. That became her lover,That became what she wanted to spend the
rest of her life with. Wasaccomplishment and success, not necessarily money,
but significance. As she says inthe pilot, I don't mind being alone,
but I do not want to beinsignificant. And that I think was

(13:45):
the accomplishments of her career, wasthe only lover she really was seeking.
Yeah, I love that. Yeah, so there's I just wanted to play
a little bit from this interview becauseI found that so interesting that I can't
remember if I had read it somewherebefore, but for some reason, I

(14:07):
had felt it in the back ofmy mind. Like Alex Sporstein didn't know
that that Hetty was coming up,Like she didn't know at the beginning of
the season because the scripts come likethey get them so last minute. But
she wasn't she wasn't able to playall of the all of the stuff leading
up to Hetty, like basically rightup until the episode before Hetty was even

(14:31):
introduced to us, Alex Sporstein herselfdidn't know about it. She didn't know
that that was coming, and she'syou know, I think it's so interesting
that she says she's grateful. I'mglad that she didn't know that Hetty was
going to be a huge part ofher character. I guess she was.
She was able to play it theway that she like. She she talks
about what she just said, ifshe had known, it might have gotten

(14:52):
in the way of her acting, and then she would have been playing these
layers of I'm trying to hide something, I'm trying to keep something secret,
And that's, in hindsight, notthe way that she saw Susie that she
would have wanted to play Susie. She would have wanted to play Susie as
a great compartmentalizer and someone who couldput that, put that aside and not
pity herself and not worry about youknow, unrequited blah blah. You know.

(15:18):
I thought that was super and Ithink she I don't know if it
was an interview with her or withRachel, but I think it was with
Alex Borsin where she talked about thefact that that opening scene when she overhears
Hetty when she's by the elevator andkind of follows her, Rachel called it.

(15:39):
She was just like, Oh,I bet it's you know, like
you dated her or something like that, and Alex was like, no,
like, that's not what it is. And I thought that was so funny
that even then she still didn't nothing. And it works because I think it
made her play it as such asurprise and it was so much more gin.

(16:00):
And I also love that she saidthat her, her success and accomplishments
were the only lover Susie really needed, because that is how I take the
ending where you see her and Midgewatching Jeopardy together like making each other laugh.
They I don't see them as lonelyat all. They are both content

(16:25):
in their success. We know that'swhat they both wanted, that ambition,
and I freaking love that they haveeach other and that shared ambition. But
I love the way she put that. I wouldn't have a thought to phrase
it like that. Yeah, there'ssome listener feedback we have talking about exactly
that, So put a pitto comeback. Yeah, I'm excited. Okay,

(16:47):
there's one more little part of theinterview that I wanted to play.
So I would also say, youknow, one of the through lines of
the whole series is watching these likelittle backstage moments that Midge and Susan you
have, and you end the seriesbefore the aged up ending, before her
final performance, that four minutes momentwhere you tell her tits up for the

(17:10):
last time at gordon Ford. Whatwas it like shooting that knowing that was
the last time you're going to saythat to her? Yeah, that was
torture. You know. Amy wiselysaved those scenes for the very last few
days. She knew it was ensemble, we'd all be together, and she
knew it was going to have thefeeling of completion. She knew that it

(17:33):
was going to be like kind ofthat final stitch you know, of hearing
that for the last time, titsup and hearing him announce, you know,
and name her as the Marvelous missusMasel. And it was it was
rough. It was very hard. You know, we cried during rehearsal.
It was very hard to get through. I was the one who got joked

(17:56):
at first, which was funny. But yeah, Susie. When Susie says,
tit's up to her there, it'syou know, she is choking.
She is choking on the words. The way she got them out is the
way she was able to get themout, and that's all she could do.
And when she is finally you know, crowned the Marvelous missus masl like

(18:22):
my hand hit my heart and andit was just what happened. It's just
what it felt like. My heartwas breaking and my heart was filling at
the same moment, I knew apiece of Susie. Knew she's losing her.
She's no longer just hers, andshe's got to share her with the
world now and this is going tobe different. Man. You oh god,

(18:45):
I just I mean, it's likeI could guess that that was what
was going on, you know, with all exporcing. But like we all
said, it didn't feel like acting. It felt like this was and it
was fine. It wasn't like abad thing about the finale at all.
The fact that that scene, yeah, that scene on Gordon Forward, it
was like there were there were noactors that day. There were just people

(19:07):
grieving and celebrating all kinds of things, all the things all at once.
Yeah, it was. Every timewe talk again, I want to go
back and watch the finale like singletime, right, because that hand to
her heart moment was well. Ithink I started crying harder during that point,

(19:30):
and to know that it was justher genuine reaction makes it so much
more powerful. Yep, very much. Yep. Yeah, you guys gotta
you gotta watch this interview. It'sit's delightful. So yes, all of
the links, of course, asalways that we talk about, all the
articles, all the videos, everythingwill be linked in the show notes.

(19:52):
So let's get started. Let's warmthings up with some Apple podcast reviews because
we gotta mo and they're pretty good. They're pretty they're pretty awesome, guys.
I think we're doing right. Yeah, so Kara, you want to
take that first one? Sure?So Nuclear Winter that's a fun user name,
Winter Winter with an R. Yeah, enjoy I wonder if that's their

(20:17):
last name. Anyway. They saidenjoyable but meant for before the show ended,
which is true because we were anaftershow podcast. I said, I
really enjoy listening to each host bringtheir own expertise to the discussion. But
because each episode was recorded as eachnew episode of the show was released weekly,

(20:37):
they spent a lot of time makingpredictions and discussing hot takes that were
almost immediately disproven, which is notgreat for posterity. I will say Nuclear
Winter may even enjoy our rewatch podcastbecause as opposed to an aftershow podcast where
where you know, we are reactingand making predictions and things like that,

(21:02):
our rewatch will be much more focusedand taylored. Now that we know how
the show ended, so right,no need for predictions at this point.
I will say, I still thinkit's true that Hetty's favor or whatever for
Gordon was going behind Midges back insabotaging Jack Parr. But so I don't

(21:23):
know, Yeah, I was disproven. Yeah, necessarily you think you think
Hetty's favor was was going sabotaging, going behind Midge's back essentially, and Gordon
going behind Midge's back to sabotage JackParr. I still think that could be
true. There were some loose sensethat they did not tie up, but
they're they're forgivable because we got themsuch a great finality. We did find

(21:47):
out out of our predictions were truein interviews with the actors Aft that is
true and Amy Sherman Palladino. SoI felt a little bit better. Yeah,
I will say, hold on,guys, my icemake is making noise.
One second. I just want todive in your ice maker right now,
Jade, do you need like abig ice water? I have a

(22:11):
giant cup of water that is prettymuch all eyes, so at least there's
that. It bounces out the redwine, Oh my god. And you're
drinking red wine. Oh my god. No, you're really toasty here.
Yeah, like you she's complaining it'shot and like meanwhile guzzles red wine like
the thing is basically like I'm handout rose. Yeah, any wine makes

(22:36):
me so flushed. I'm just notanyway. Um, so I will say,
now people can see it. Yeah, right, she's got the rosy
cheeks, the rose cheeks, ifyou're listening to this, I apologize because
I'm probably going to do a lotless cutting because we're having fun on this
video right now, so like I'mleaving all this stuff in. So if
you're just listening to this podcast, like you know, come on over to

(23:00):
Pat. Just imagine you could seeCarol all rosy right now. You can
see her all rosy, and inbetween she's got a great background. Now,
she's sitting in between two giant boxof purse sets of Lady of Feminine
napkins. I do love this background. And Erica is on a bed surrounded
by a bunch of yellow teddy bearsin a fabulous red beret with a hot

(23:25):
red lips. She's looking fous It'strue. And then you could see how
fearsome beautiful Jade looks right now doingthis. Yes, thank you, my
daughter. I don't know if youcan hear that listeners, but that's the
wine being poured into my tip.Now. Now these are the type of
predictions we can continue. Is what'sgoing to happen when Carol runs out of

(23:47):
her rose Yes? Okay, soback to what I was going to say
before I turn off my icemaker.Um, this whole Gordon for or this
whole like, what was the thingthe favor that Hetty owed to Gordon.
I'll I'll talk a little bit. We've you know, if you listen to
our episode on the finale, youknow, I think probably what we all

(24:07):
thought of it. But um Iforgot Kara that that was your take on
it. But there's our listeners havesaid some other stuff about that. So
I want to talk a little bitmore. So I'm gonna put a pin
in that one as well. Solet's go to the next review Erica,
you want to take that one?Sure it is a five star review from
Biking Dangerous. You're right, bikingis dangerous. Be safe out there,

(24:30):
everybody and biking, as Sandra says, love it. Thank you so much
for doing what you do. Youladies often say what I'm thinking. All
I could say is five stars isnot enough. Oh my god, thank
you. That's nice. Thank you. I watch every episode several times,
yet you and your listeners often leadme to grab the remote and dive back
in to see what you saw thatI may have missed. Yeah, very

(24:53):
true. I really enjoy your banterand I get the feeling you three are
in sync. As midge and easy, and you let us listeners in as
well. Thank you, ah,thank you. Oh my god, but
you're dangerous. You just touched myheart on such a deep level because everything
you're outlining like we do. Wealways say it's crazy that we like read
each other's mind, We like willfinish each other's sentences. It's bizarre.

(25:18):
I cut it out a lot ofthe time on the podcast when we when
I say, oh my god, you're reading my mind, you're reading my
notes, because it gets like annoying. I say it so much. I'm
like, god, I gotta stopsaying that. But it never sees this
too amazing true it it's like youknow that you know that that's what you
have with your friends is magical whenshit like that happens. You know.
I love that you guys are inmy brain. I find it terribly convenient.

(25:40):
Please, yes, stay in mybrain. You're open. The doors
always open to my brain. Enterwith caution. But you know, gosh,
I love this. Next one's username too. It's just like all
of these today. Okay, youread it. Next one is from Vampi
Nurse. It's a five star ofyou that love it all, She said,

(26:02):
don't change a thing. I lovethe length of the podcast. Thank
you, and you talking over eachother. I love that. I'm going
to start talking over you right now. Karen blah blah blah. Erica,
You're always This is our standing rulethat Kara and I always should air on
the side of shutting the fuck up, and Erica is always allowed to interrupt.
I'm just chilling, she said.It is like being part of friends

(26:26):
around a table loving what you love. That makes me so happy. And
that's it. You're nailing it,you guys. This is I'm so glad
that you guys are enjoying exactly whatwe're setting out to do as podcasters.
Just just a couple of bitches sittingaround drinking wine out of a chits up
mug. You know it's true.Just a Monday evening is Monday, Monday,

(26:49):
Monday, Lord right, all right, because it's Monday, truly.
Um all right, I'll read thelast one. It is another five star
review. It says a great podcastfor a great show from Mick d Maria,
love the takes, insights and rapportand laughs. If you love the

(27:10):
marvelous missus Mazel, you'll love this. That was fabulous. Thank you,
short, sweet to the point, love it all. Oh my gosh,
so much love. Oh we haveanother one. We have one more,
yay, hopefully it's a nice one. Oh it is. It's another five
star. Oh yeah, from Trishthe Trash Lady that if you can see

(27:34):
it, you go ahead and readit, Erica, okay, Oh my
goodness, it's a marvelous five starreview from Tresh Trish the Trash Ladys the
trash Lady, you get the vote. Star. Yes, the best user
name I've ever seen in my life. Like, I mean all I know
the backstory of that that that nameis great. All right, love so

(27:56):
great, It's so good. Lovethe banter and insight and the listener feedback.
Found you found you after the lastepisode, have gone back to listen
to the episodes in this season andenhance my understanding of the series. Thank
you, Hearth Heart Heart, well, thank you and Trish Trish the Trash
love it. Welcome, Welcome,Welcome. It's okay that you're a little
late to the party, you know, as long as you you found us,

(28:18):
and that's all that matters, babe, So welcome. I'm so excited
to have you, and I hopethat you continue to lead more listener feedback.
And I hope you're a fan ofOnly Murders in the Building. Yes,
And seriously, listeners if you like, haven't if you're like thinking to
yourself, oh, I've never watchedonly Murders in Building, and like I'm
probably gonna oh good, probably notgonna do that or whatever. Seriously,
if you like the Marvelous Missus Basil, I don't know one single person who

(28:41):
enjoys the Marvelous Missus Basil who doesn'tdoes in the building. Like, Yes,
it's it's just the natural progression youneed. There's a hole in our
lives. Steve Martin d and MartinShort. You cannot even wrong with Steve
Martin and Martin Short. I meanjust you just you can't. You can't
go wrong. You can't go wrong. And for young people, Selena Gomez,

(29:03):
Selena Gomez fucking delightful, so delightful, such a lovely balanced energy wise
to those two, you know, like they're they're a true the beautiful trio.
It's beautiful well and they have areally interesting friendship, I will say
off of the show as well. And it's just like Mazel where that comes
through on the show comes through andit's fantastic. Yeah, we have a

(29:26):
we have a knack for picking theseshows, I think based on how just
the love that clearly goes into makingthem. It just oozes off the screen.
With with Mazel and with Only Murders, it's just you can just tell
how much these people love each other, how much they're like a family.
So it's just it's not like it'snot like your average TV show, you
know this, it's different. Iremember when I like, I'll I'll probably

(29:48):
say this again when we start podcastingon only Murders. But I remember the
day I found Only Murders in thebuilding. I had just listened to an
Agatha Christie audiobook and I think itwas the nice Yeah, it definitely the
last audio book in my Christie.Like I've listened to all Agatha Christie multiple
times, and I was like listeningto the last one so slowly because I

(30:08):
knew it was the last one beforeI had listened to them all and then
everything was going to be a youknow, revisit, relistened, and I
was like savoring the newness of likethis this last book that I hadn't read
yet, And when it was over, I felt so sad that, like
my Agathe Christie is just all usedup, you know. And I was
like, I need a mystery.I need a new mystery thing like in

(30:30):
my life. And I was lookingat other audio books and I'm like,
yeah, maybe i'll watch something. And I was like, shit, okay,
I've really exhausted mystery movies and shows, like I've watched all those ten
times over already, you know, like there's nothing new as far as as
far as a show or a moviefrom murder Mysteries for me. And then
I found only murders in the building, and I'm like, what what what

(30:51):
is this? And I and myHulu subscription was about to run out,
and I was like, okay, fine, fuck it, I'm just gonna
renew my membership for one more monthand like and try it out. And
I remember pressing play and just thedelight that came over me, and I
remember saying I remember where I wassitting, and I remember saying out loud,
It's like they made a show forme, like Taylor to Jade.

(31:15):
You got Murder Mystery, you gottheatricality, you got like just comedic genius,
like oh legends, Yes, allright, I'll shut up now.
It's good. It's so good.Yeah, we'll have plenty of time to
nerd out over that show too.Yeah. All right, So now let's
get into our email feedback and whobetter, who better to start it off

(31:38):
with than our fourth co host,Melanie Browne. Hi, Melanie. Oh
yes, Melanie, Oh my gosh, okay, we're going to play her
voice message one moment. Hey guys, it's me Melanie. You would think
after starting to happen to Melanie,I would be done talking about the show,

(31:59):
or Elie wouldn't have anything else tosay or for this part of the
podcast, But you know, herewe are. I I just wanted to
say because you guys had mentioned, you know, that Nina Arianda was such
a beautiful actress, and I haveto agree. She's absolutely funny and my

(32:22):
critique on Hetty has nothing to dowith her, and I just wanted to
make that clear. Um, okay, thank you for making that clear.
Maybe it was a little harsh onHetty, and when I was listening back,
I thought, yeah, you was, um, But ultimately I think
I got emotionally because she hit shehurts sissy. But um, Melanie,

(32:43):
I love you, you know, and don't don't hurt my Suzzy. But
ultimately, in the end of Iagree, at the end of the day,
you know, it was the time, and I guess, you know,
it's it's a wonderful you know.I guess it's it's a good thing
that now you know you can beopenly gay, at least in a lot

(33:07):
of places, um, you canbe openly gay. And there's still some
places where you can't. And andthat's a sad, a sad state of
affairs that we're going to get into. And I'm not going to, but
I do just want to say, have you pride with everybody, um,
and always for yourself, and lovewho you want to love. And I'm

(33:27):
glad that we're in a place inour society where you know, at least
amongst decent people, you can youcan love who you want. And there
you go. Not I know whatI get, you know, to a

(33:49):
lot of soapbox, but there yougo. But none of my critistique on
Hetty had anything to do with NinaArianda, and I think she's gorgeous.
All thank you for qualifying your yourfeedback. There you go. I am
going to New York City in acouple of weeks. Um, I'm really
really excited to go hit up youknow everything, Um a little bit,

(34:15):
get some of that, you know, some of the scenery from Missus masil
looked at. I'm really really excited. We haven't been in years. I
haven't been since I was a child, So I'm really really excited. Michael
has never been at all, andwe're actually going to see our daughter perform
in New York. Um, let'srequire So I'm really or immune about that.

(34:42):
And I just wanted to, um, you know, thank you guys
again this uh, you know, this cool show really and the impact that
this show has fun on everything.Just I couldn't really for why is it

(35:04):
or I couldn't even can point whateffect this had why this show was so
special? But then I remember that, you know, Michael reminded me that
the first time I decided tom Ihad done theater when I was younger,
and I had always enjoyed doing shows, and you know, and then I

(35:28):
became a mom and now my daughter'sa bit, daughters in high school now,
but I hadn't done shows and solong that I missed it very much,
and I, um, it wasafter I started watching this show that
I started out re auditioning for someplays around town. M I going to

(35:52):
be an actors or I want todo as a career or anything. But
it definitely has given me a loveAnd I think a lot of that had
to do with masol um, youknow, realizing that you're good at something,
or that you're still good at somethingin my case, and just doing
something you love and you never gotthat passion, and believing that you always

(36:16):
had time for a second act nomatter where your life is. And I
think that that is ultimately Alum holdssuch a place in my heart, and
I know that it told that placein a lot of people's hearts. But
I yeah, so I will talkto you guys again, I'm sure.
But have a great day, rightMelanie, Melanie, I'm having like a

(36:42):
hand to heart Susie moment. Youare such a darling Erica. I want
to know what you have to sayabout that too, because I know that
you are a performer, not yeah, you're a passion performer. You don't
do it right. You're not hustlingin the same way that I am.
I don't. I don't do it. I shouldn't do it as a career.
I do it for the love ofperforming a theater. I think you

(37:04):
should be paid for your italities,My dear, It's okay, no listeners.
Those of you who don't know Ericaperforms, well tell them, tell
the people about it. Yeah yeah, but um in in my other job,
I do something called the Rocky HardPicture Show. Yes it does,
and I've been cool and I've beendoing it for god like twenty six,

(37:25):
twenty seven years. So you gottaput up some of those pictures. Yeah,
awesome pictures. Yeah, hot photosthat we we're gonna put on.
Yeah. Yeah, it's but youknow, I keep this kind of that's
like a separate life, but it'sit allows me to still perform even though
I am a mom. I havea day job. But it's it's wonderful.
It's it's allowed me to meet somany cool people and I have I

(37:50):
do it along with my husband andmy best friends. It's it's a lot
of fun. But Melanie brought itup. I used to do community theater
as well, and we kind ofretired from it when we found out we
were pregnant with our son, whichwas in two thousand and eight. We
auditioned and got cast into the beatand in the beating and the beast,
and we decided like, maybe weshouldn't do it right now, which is

(38:15):
sad because I really would have wishedto been on that, but then we
did it. Is it is.I wish we'll do it sometime. But
we did Cabaret again, um goshmaybe, and we were able to do
that because we did it before. And I'm like, I know the show
backwards and forwards and I was atkiitcat Girl again, so it was great.

(38:37):
So Melanie, I I understand andnever never give that up. And
even if you have like you justkind of immerse yourself in it in somehow.
It's just it makes you feel good, makes you feel good. I
love you. I totally relate Belanie, and I will say Melanie, we
do. We follow each other onInstagram. She follows our perfectly marvelous cast

(38:57):
and she has been sharing photos fromNew York and they were so much fun
to look at. It made mewant to go back. I was just
like, damn, I haven't beenthere, and like well over ten years
now at this point New York.New York guys come to New York seriously,
So I got engaged. In NewYork. Oh yeah, that's right,

(39:19):
that's right. Yea not New Yorkantic, itally is. Yeah.
I was so bummed that, umI wasn't able to like meet up with
Melanie or anything. I was havingthe most busy because like once once Masal
season ended, I think we allwere just like, Okay, now we
have so much stuff to do becausewe've all been putting, you know,
our work stuff like has been alittle you know, not maybe the main

(39:39):
focus, which is as it shouldbe, like, fuck work, Let's
focus on Mazel priorities. Man.We got some priorities that are absolutely in
the right place. But as soonas that ended, I think we all
needed to like take some time tolike work on our lives and do something,
you know, pick some things thathave been just a little fallen by
the wayside. So yeah, Iwas so booked. I was, you

(40:00):
know, but listeners, if you'reever in New York, please let us
know, let me know there's avery high likelihood that I'll be able to
meet up for a coffee and somesightseeing or whatever. I love to do
that. I love meeting people thatcome to my city because it's truly the
greatest city in the world in myhumble opinion. So yes, all right,
let's get to our next piece oflistener feedback. Melanie once again,

(40:22):
we love you, babe. Pleasenever stopping, never stopped doing you,
never stop leaving us. Your voicemessages so delightful. All right, now
we have our first email from BarbaraPriscoe. She says, I join you
in your intense hatred of Gordon Ford. Why thank you, Barbara. But

(40:43):
I don't think his scenes in thefinale are badly written at all. We're
seeing the true Gordon Ford. Idon't think the writing is bad at all.
Susie's assessment of him to Joel wasfive hundred percent dead on. Well,
yes, he is behaving like thethreatened and threatening little baby asshole that
he is. He was never charming, not true charm. He has the

(41:04):
charm of a manipulator. Our initialintroduction to him is that he's an asshole
who is banned from Toots Shores becausehe's constantly getting into fistfights. He is
dismissive, abusive, and arrogant towardshis staff at all times. Women to
him are nothing but a prop Hehired Midge because he thought he would get
into her pants, yes, andultimately she stuck around thanks to her huge

(41:25):
talent and camarade camaraderie with the others. I fully believed every single ugly and
schizokis skisko schizo right thing he didin this finale, and my blood was
boiling when he turned out to bethe one to dub her marvelous thank you,

(41:45):
thank you. My blood was yeah, my blood pressure got high.
If Reed Scott appeared awkward saying theselines, which I didn't pick up on
myself, I actually because I rememberthat's that's what I said in our Finelle
coverage. If Reed Scott appeared awkwardsaying these lines, which I didn't pick
up on myself. I think itwas very real because in real life,

(42:08):
someone as vile and pernicious as GordonFord can't possibly maintain any kind of suaveness
when they are being backed against awall. It's going to be awkward and
uncomfortable. Indeed, anyway, FuckGordon Ford. Yes, He's the only
thing I will not miss about theshow. Love your podcast so much.
Tit's up. Oh my god,Barb from Barbara Hot takes from Barbara.

(42:32):
Yeah, I agree, I agree, She wrote a second email, she
said, Oh my god, Itotally forgot this bit. Gordon Ford absolutely
killed Midge's chances with Jack Barr.I firmly believe he reached out to Jack
Barr and either called in a favoror made a threat of some sort to
guarantee that she would not get abreak from that showcase. This may not
have been clear in the previous episode, but in the finelle when he brings

(42:54):
the subject up to Midge, inmy opinion, he totally outs himself.
So his hackled hackles hackles hack Whatis hackles like when your cat, like
you know, when they arched theirback and everything goes up, hackle like
their hair, their hack never theirhackles go up. Now everybody gets to

(43:15):
see us, right if you're justlike you just totally you're listening to this,
I guarantee you just totally arched herback and tried to do Okay,
Now I have a new word frommy boat for my I mean as a
human cat. This is very usefulto me because I often hackle. Um

(43:38):
so, she says, So hishackles have been up against Midge, going
into his request from Hetty to putMidge on the show. Oh I hate
that asshole. Ha ha ha.I love Barbara, Barbara, thank you.
Yes, like Gordon Ford like acat, like all the hairs standing

(43:58):
up the anchors, hackle. Hewished he was a cat. Yeah,
he's definitely, he's definitely not acat. No, definitely not a cat.
I mean, I guess you'd likesnake. Yeah, you'd be like
a yeah, like a snaky sneaklight snake. Yeahh a real ugly one
enemy one, not like the cutekind, not like they're a cute snakes

(44:21):
are cute snakes. There are snakesnake. So I think the wines are
kicking in So no, I think, um, I think that this whole
Gordon Ford thing is meant to beambiguous. I know that there's more feedback

(44:45):
about it about Gordon Ford. Um, I think I don't know. If
I don't, I would love toask Amy Sherman Palladino if she even knows.
I just feel like it's one ofthose things that she wrote ambiguous,
and I kind of love, slashhate that she does this because oftentimes I
think that she writes things in likethere's going to be a hidden meaning to

(45:09):
it and something that, oh,this is going to get revealed later and
then it's never talked about again. It's kind of like a loose thread.
And I think that it's because Idon't know if it's just because she's got
a lot of Amy Sherman Palladino hasa lot of balls to juggle in the
air, so like things kind ofget forgotten about and like not everything can
get addressed and tied up and havea full circle ending. But I or

(45:32):
or so it's either that that shejust kind of like forgets, or it's
that she knows she's not going totie it up and she just puts it
in there to get people thinking, and it's like, yeah, it could
be that, Yeah, it couldbe that too. It could be that
as well. I don't know,though, I don't know if Gordon Ford
is that clever, and I justmaybe it's just because I love Nina Ariana

(45:52):
that I don't want to believe thatHetty would be so part of that,
yeah, part of that that shewould like actively. I feel like if
it was Hetty, then there's listenerfeedback about Hetty and maybe her involvement with
this whole Midge Jack par sabotage. But I feel like if it was Hetty,
then we would have been shown thewhole. When we get to the

(46:14):
whole, what is I owe youthe whole? Like you are you owe
me? One? Thing that Hettysays to Gordon, Yeah, I don't
know. I just don't know howmuch get so pointed when he's I don't
know, I know, maybe not. That's why I think Gordon for the
writing was not outstanding for him, because there are still a lot of questions

(46:38):
about his motivations and we know fromyou know, just years of listening to
Amy Sherman Palladino talk and then talkingto Austin on the podcast, just how
much control and direction that they give. I don't know. Well, well,

(46:59):
they they have been releasing on likethe Instagram, like the story arcs.
So they just did one for Rosethat I left it. Maybe they'll
do one for Gordon. It mightbe interesting to see all all his scenes
kind of together because I kind ofthink about the first introduction to him with
Midge after her set at the Walfordand then kind of like you know,

(47:22):
thinking about when they went to theLittle Diner and all that, like I
still remember those things that I remember. That's when you know, Karas still
found him charming, and then andthen all of that kind of like that
downfall after that, so it's it'syeah, yeah, I would be it
would be interesting to see everything kindof together, to see if it reads
well, if it reads the samewith read Scott, like, I find

(47:45):
him charming as a person, andhe is seemingly very nice guy. So
I don't know how much of thatwas him coming through, but I had
such a visceral reaction to that switchthat flipped with Gordon's character where it was
just like immediately no and yeah, immediately no longer attractive, and it was

(48:07):
that's what feels like with lash yeahto me, And it was right?
Was it was it? When itright? When she told him she was
going on Jack par Is, thatwhen it switched, I think pretty much
where it was just like when Georgewas yeah, and when George was gone.
I think I kind of round thattime because even the Pirate Queen,
he was still kind of you know, he laughed about the situation. They

(48:30):
were still chummy. Yeah, thePirate Queen, I think he was shown
in the best light because if Iremember, I remember the way he handled
hearing what Mitch had done on thatboat, and he was just like I'll
get behind that. Yeah, don'teven don't even try to edit that out
of the news, like let peopleknow I got a pirate on my team.
I mean totally. I'm sure forself selfish reasons that he you know,

(48:52):
he's always is never being generous becausehe's enjoying other people or like wanting
to help other people. It's alwaysall about him. But I didn't think
that he came off as quite funnyin that episode. But yeah, I
remember the time when I was justlike, nope, so much Nope.
Was that moment that she said shewas going to do Jack Parr and She's
like, want to get on inon this first, and he just was

(49:13):
It was like, nope, Ababy man, baby man. Yeah,
there's one thing I can't tell her. I cannot abide. It's a it's
an overgrown man childe hyeah, pleasego true exist. Nope for anyone.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, somuch. Yeah, there's so much Gordon's
speculation, which is just anger makingfor me because yeah, I think that

(49:34):
it's a little little cheap, littleweak sauce that writing. It's just a
little um just okay, I'll justsay one more time. For the amount
that he was built up, forthe amount that the relationship to Midge was
built up in his attraction to her, for it all to just be no
answers, like like, it feelsa little insulting, just just a little
bit as someone who podcasts and tomy listeners, who took so much time

(49:59):
to be like this is what Ithink it is when I remember just hours
of our time we're spent on thosepodcasts talking about where is this going to
go? His connection with Midge? Are they going to sleep together? Is
it going to be another Lenny? Is she going to be closer to him
than Joel? Are they going tofall in love? What's going on?
And to her and Joel's diner, like yeah, it was not a small

(50:19):
thing. No, they were reallyputting him in front of our Like I
keep saying it, for someone whogot so much screen time for it to
just all fall to it just fallsto her sabotaging the show. Well not
even really sabotaging, he was sabotagingit, but just for her to get
her first you know, big shoton on TV. Was it just happened
to be on his show? Yeah, he didn't give her her big break

(50:44):
at all. To her, shetook it. She took her break,
took it, and he didn't.Even people who are always like giving him
credit for hiring her, I'm like, no, that Susie made that happen.
That's all the credit to Susie. He so reluctantly and was like,
yeah, okay, I'll give ora try. It was just convenient time,
and it was only I'd been recommendingto him that they needed a lady

(51:06):
writer. Right. There's credit toHetty, there's credit to Susie. There's
credit to Midge's tits because she's hot. There's no credit to Gordon Ford except
for the fact that he has eyeslike a man, yeah tip stereotypical straight
sis men eyes. And he didthink she was funny. He did bring
that up at the very beginning whenSusie approached him. Yeah, but it

(51:28):
was reluctant. Yeah. Yeah, mistakes were made with Gordon Ford made.
But I digress. Let's let usdigress from Gordon Ford. I'm glad we
got that one out of our systemsat the top there. I know there's
going to be a little more listenerfeedback about um about Hetty stuff, but
that comes a little later, sowe'll get we'll circle back around to the
heaty of it all. So ournext one is from Lois Farber and she

(51:52):
says, Hi, I'm enjoying yourperfectly marvelous podcast. Just fyi, Dick
Gregory was a groundbreaking black comedian anda prominent civil writes activist, and she
linked his biography on the history makersdot orgs and she said, keep up
with the good work. Cheers Lois. And there is a great um there's
a great clip of Dick Gregory wherehe talks about the difference between humor and

(52:15):
comedy that I just wanted to playa tiny little bit of because Dick Gregory,
you know, I feel like youdon't get enough airtime. Dude,
Like, let's let's let's give themaster a little bit of um le.
We skipped Tammy. Oh right, shit, who also mentions Dick Gregory.
Yeah, okay, read that oneand then I'll play the clip. Sorry,

(52:37):
Okay, this is Tammy in Texas. Tammy, I hope you are
staying cool wherever you are in Texas, unlike me. Yeah, she said,
Hi, girls, I just startedlistening to your part one podcast and
I'm really enjoying it. I've alsobeen listening to Mark Marrin's w twof WTF

(52:58):
podcast interview with Amy Sherman Palladino.I highly recommend. Yes, that was
definitely a good one. As shesaid, you may already know this,
but her dad was a comic andher early years were heavily influenced by comedy
and dance. I heard you talkingabout the comedian Dick Gregory, but she
named dropped Dick Caprie, who wasa comedian that her dad knew. I'm

(53:19):
really looking forward to your Only Murdersin the Building podcast, my second favorite
show guy. Yes, yes,in Texas, but we're all right,
that's here, all right. DickGregory born and raised in Saint Louis.
There was no such thing as comedy, born and raised before there was television.

(53:46):
It was only radio. And Ithought Bob Hope in Mildenborough and it
was Corney. I mean that wasthat was to a different culture. Patter
and I, you know, andso I never thought if he was born
in New York. For Chicago,if you was an adult, you might
get to see a Negro comment onthe black circuit. But there was no

(54:07):
nightclubs and St. Louisi said, jazz clubs or music clubs or what have
you, or blues clubs where peoplewent out to dance, and so humor
and it's one day. There's abig separation between humor and comedy. Humor
is what we all do. Comedyis professional people who get paid a comedian.

(54:30):
U the greatest life you've ever hadin your life did not come from
professional comedians. It came from friendsor relatives. And the difference between humor
and comedy is a time and hasto sit around the table on Thanksgiving as
family member, just tell the jokethe time and my breath don't have to
be right, I don't have toand and and I can tell the same

(54:54):
joke every year. I'm Thanksgiving whenI come to dinner and it's funny.
Oh this humor? Uh yeah,So there's so much great There's tons of
great videos of Dick Gregory. I'mgoing to link this one in the show
notes, but I seriously, ifyou guys have any interest in you know

(55:15):
how the comedic scene really got started, especially for black comedians, you got
to listen to some Dick Gregory. There's an amazing audiobook that I just started
listening to about his life. Theman has led like such a fascinating life.
Like I it's it's it's the bestkind of rabbit hole you can go
down, is like by learning aboutthis guy. He's just such a such
a total sweetheart. I loved DickGregory. And we're coming up on like

(55:37):
the anniversary of six years of hispassing, which is crazy. But what
a genius, what a guy.So yeah, Dick Gregory. I just
appreciate all the you know, thethe amount of work that had to go
into bringing in all these people thatwere trailblazers of comedy that I never heard
of that yeah, right, meneither. I'm embarrassed to say I didn't

(55:58):
know who Lenny Bruce was before me. And there's no meaning about it.
And I loved Dustin Hoffman. It'sjust I think it's great that they just
really brought, you know, tothe forefront, all these people to this
generation so we can learn about them. You just reminded me of something,
Erica, I was thinking of.Oh, sorry, talking to us,
somebody's talking to us. Sorry's likeI didn't get that. Sorry, sorry,

(56:21):
Allow me to reiterate. I hadan idea that it might be a
fun thing for us to do aPatreon Live watch of like if we all
the three of us got on,got on like a watch party and watched
Lenny because I loved Dustin Hoffman somuch, And I would just love to
watch that video with you guys andmaybe like pause it at a couple of

(56:42):
moments and talk about the contrasting performancewith Lenny played by Luke Kirby. I
just think that that would be sointeresting. And I haven't ever watched that
Dustin Hoffman film and I would loveto. But I want to watch it
with you guys because I'm gonna wantto say my thoughts out loud. That
would be good. What year didthat one come out? That was older?
Right? Yeah? I think itwas. I think it was in
the eighties. I feel like Iget frustrated today like people. I think

(57:07):
younger people associate Dustin Hoffman more withlike meet the Fuckers really and I'm tutsie,
tutsie all the way. It's likethe graduate, like the graduate.
Look, yeah, I loved yesand hook Yes, I got I got
a hook at the brain right now. Yeah, it's like, oh,

(57:28):
that's that old guy and meet thefuckers. This was something that oh my
god, another an eighteen year oldI was around recently, said, and
I was just like, no,no, oh my god, that's our
time, right. Yeah. Iknow. Someone once said I was talking
to my sister brain man, nothing, nothing, I was talking to my

(57:49):
sister's friend. And they're not eventhat much younger than me, just like
two years younger. And she Iwas talking about Robert de Niro and she
goes, oh, the guy forMeet the Fockers, And I was like,
God, hand to forehead moment, what a Travis se A number of
other things. Taxi driver man,Yeah, like god, yeah, no,
Leny. Lenny was from nineteen seventyfour, yeah, which was we

(58:14):
should do that almost years ago?Yeah, that's my dad graduated from high
school that year. I'm just likeyep. So yeah, listeners, if
that is something that you would beinterested in watching or listening to us watching
Lenny and commenting on Dustin Hoppins, what is to be an amazing performance,
I'm sure let us know. Letus know, because we are always looking

(58:37):
for, you know, other littlethings we can do. Um that will
just keep the masal love going becausewe're already missing it, like the deserts
missed the rain. All right,Yeah, let's move on to our next
bitte of feedback. Okay, listeners, we just had to we just had
to take a break because we hadto get some water and we had a
contact drying out situation. Kara wasso hot. I'm allowing Kara to turn

(59:00):
on her air conditioning now, andyeah, Eric, i'mcarable have their fans
going, and yeah, it makesmy editing a little bit more difficult,
but I don't want my girls tosuffer, so turn air conditioning is on.
And I was just thinking while weare taking a little break that talking
about hook and everything made me andDustin Hoffman made me realize that I wanted

(59:22):
to say to the lovely people outthere that yes, Jade has finally launched
her new podcast. I'm sure thatyou have seen it. If you're subscribed
to this feed, then you've seenit pop up. And I promise I've
will only released the first episode onthis feed. I just wanted to make
everyone very much aware that this iswhere you can subscribe to my new podcast

(59:42):
called Shall We Compare Thee? Andwe just put up our Psycho episode shamelessly
plugging it it is. I mean, guys, Paul and I have something
cool going on. We've got acool dynamics. It's a totally different dynamic
than I have with you guys, but it's different, but like just as
awesome. I mean, well,I don't know, it's just as awesome.
But I did say to them,I'm like, I did really miss

(01:00:05):
you guys when I podcasted with someoneelse, though, I was like miss
my girls. But no, Paulis great and we are just getting into
like our groove podcasting with each other. Now it's a totally different kind of
kind of thing, but it's youknow, it's still me. You know,
it's not that different. But wereally get into talking about Psycho though
in this and that episode, andwe really got into like the psyche of
the characters, and you know, talking about characters like they're real people.

(01:00:30):
It's like my favorite thing to do, analyzing their behavior like it's like it's
a real person. And the conversationgot real deep. So if you guys
have ever you know, listeners,if you've ever watched Psycho, or if
you haven't because you're like I don'tlike horror movies or I don't like black
and white movies, or I wouldseriously Psycho is so it holds up.

(01:00:50):
So after doing all of that researchon it and watching it over and over
and taking notes. The one thingthat I really took away from it is
like, damn, this is stillso relevant. It's so watchable with a
modern eye. And the black andwhite is it's some of the most gorgeous
black and white captured on film.So if you're not a oh, I
don't, I can't really get intowatching black and white movies. And I

(01:01:13):
guarantee you it almost feels like thisfilm is in color. It's shot so
beautifully, the lighting, it's trulyevery frame is a painting. It's masterful.
So if you guys like Psycho,or if you've never watched Psycho before
and you want a reason to finallycheck it off your list, I would
say now is the time, becausenot only did I just you know,

(01:01:35):
put out a podcast on it,a kick Gas podcast, by do you
say so myself? Really, I'mmore complimenting Paul than my I mean,
honestly, Paul's great. But soNetflix has has it on their streaming service,
but you know, so many thingsbecause of the writer's strike, so
many things are coming off of streamingright now, and Psycho will only be

(01:01:55):
available on Netflix until July first, and then you're going to have to pay
for it. So it is fullyJune nineteenth, by the way, Happy
Juneteenth, happy Pride, happy Juneteenth, all that. Yes, it's a
perfect, perfect moment to you know, talk about Dick Gregory as well,
like just right up there with withwho better to listen to on Juneteenth?

(01:02:17):
But anyway, so yes, soit is June nineteenth. You don't have
long to watch Psycho on Netflix beforeit goes away, and then you will
have to pay. It's not theoriginal or the remake. The original the
remake. I if you if youdon't feel like because you can't, it's
not streaming anywhere. Um, youhave to pay for it if you don't
feel like paying for it. Though, there is an incredible YouTube video that

(01:02:37):
has it's like the full film andit keeps cutting back and forth between those
sixties the original and the remakes, and it gives you, it certainly gives
you enough of the remake to watchfor just hearing what we have to say
about it on our podcast. Ido not think it is required that you
watch that film. I would notsay that anyone. I don't need that

(01:02:58):
it's necessarily Yeah, like after watchingthat remake. You'll just say to yourself,
Wow, that's that's an hour andhalf that I will never get back.
Remake that bothered me so much, and I'm like, why did they
do that? Yeah? You probablyknow what part I Oh, there are
several Yeah, so yeah, okay, so I'm stop sorry, I'll stop

(01:03:20):
plugging now. But um but pleaseif you guys don't and also if you're
not into Psycho, we don't onlyreview horror films. Our next comparison will
be UM as I was, Man, that was a long way around to
get to this point. As I'mtalking about Yeah, there I am.
I found it. Um Hook.We are talking all things Peter Pans.
We're talking about the original Peter Pan, the two thousand and three remake,

(01:03:43):
the new twenty twenty three Peter Panand Wendy, and we're talking about Hook
nineteen ninety one as well. Andbecause I'm, you know, an old
theater hag, I will be talkingabout the Mary Martin nineteen sixty made for
TV movie rendition of Peter Pan.So yes, all of that. The
links are in the description of myshall we compare the podcast? So check

(01:04:04):
it out. There's something truly foreverybody and then the episode we're doing after
Peter Pan, we're going to doa Little Shop of Horrors. And if
you're here, if you're here andwatching Mazel, guaranteed you're gonna love Little
Shop of Horrors. I'm sure,I'm sure. Yeah, if you don't
already love Little Shop of Horrors, yeah, yes, And Little Shop of

(01:04:25):
Horrors, both of the original withJack Nicholson and the remake musical, both
are available on I believe Netflix. They're available in like every streaming platform for
free, so it's super easy towatch those. And yeah, same thing
with Peter Pan. Super easy towatch right now, especially if you have
Disney Plus. But yeah, sowe got a lot of fun stuff happening
there, and we take requests, and Paul and I have said, since

(01:04:48):
we haven't got a request from anybodyto for two films that we could compare
if they're like the first person whosends in a request like I want you
to do this film, we willjust do it regardless of what it is,
because you're the first one to writein and say this is a podcast
that I you know, most podcastersrequire a commission fee to do something like

(01:05:08):
that, but um, I wouldalready so what I want you to do.
I told you that I was remake. Yes that, well you don't
count, Erica, I know Idon't count, but you should do it
because oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah it is a very maybe after you've
done a couple other non horrors,it would be an excellent, excellent one

(01:05:29):
to do. That's going on thelist. That's going on list for sure.
Good. Yes, yes, LuckyHorror is a remake. I want
to watch that. Dam there's notthere's not a night hours. No,
I still haven't seen the second onethat I really want to so good.
I'm so scary. I'm waiting formy husband to finish listening to the book,
and I'm like, I'm not goingto wait for you any longer.

(01:05:51):
Yeah, that'll that'll take a while. Yeah all right, speaking of taking
a while. Yeah, sorry, guys, shamelessly plugging. But hey,
it's my podcast anal too. No, it's it's it's great. It's going
to be a good podcast. Sosubscribe, subscribe, listen to it,

(01:06:11):
do all the things, like it, review it, love my podcast,
do it? Love it? Allright? God? All right? Moving
on to our next bit of listenerfeedback, Erica, why don't you take
that one. I would be happyto Liz Todd aka Elizabeth Ann on Facebook.
Hello, Magical Erica, magnificent Jade, and marvelous care. Thank you

(01:06:33):
for pretty goosts of alphabetical order.I know. I'm so excited to have
the opportunity to ask Matilda Zevich asa question. In the Weisman household,
Zelda was the lone island of commonsense. I love to honor her by
mentioning a marvelous Zelda moment, andthere's way too many. All the Zelda
moments are marvelous. I agree.I have so many questions for I have

(01:06:56):
so many questions for her, butI'll ask just one. I'm temp did
to ask about her wedding episode, but I'm pretty sure there wo listeners will
address that. Please ask her whichcast members she most enjoyed visiting the craft
table with and why. I knowyour time is valuable, so you could
skip over this part, but Ihave all the time in the world as
I recover from a bicycle accident.Boo boo. I'm sorry to hear that,

(01:07:20):
Liz. It's terrible. Yeah, please please recover soon. Spoiler alert,
this is not a question I haveto mention Ethan's fake birthday and Selda
with her camera that episode. Seasonfour, episode one was one of my
favorites. The Wonder Wheel family meetingwas hysterical and even so much going on.

(01:07:42):
Zelda and her camera absolutely own theirscenes. I did love that so
much. Just a thought of thefamily's housekeeper also being the family's historian with
genius. That episode had it alla brushing everyone through and Charlotte asking all
the kids over and over, Joey, is your funnel cake delicious? Even
it's your funnel cake delicious? Andon and on and on. I really
want some funnel cake right now.By the way, that does sound good,

(01:08:04):
I know really. That episode isloaded with marvelous moments. It opens
with Midge chicken that long drag onher smoke and slowly saying revenge and then
explaining the soul crushing revenge she craves. That was one of my favorite Midges
stand ups. Oh my god,so good. Sorry for the rambling.
No, no, You're in goodcompany. My crazy can be explained.

(01:08:25):
I'm on picking killers at Bouxwide.Oh Liz, she typed islets blade Oh
good? And I love spining todo. Yeah cheers Liz, Yes,
and hope you feel better, andshe wrote. She wrote a second email

(01:08:45):
and she said, I know keepingup with the emails, voice messages,
social media posts and more must beexhausting. Your podcast is excellent. Thank
you. I figure it's impossible foryou ladies to read every Facebook post,
but you have to see this. The woman posting is commenting on a thread
in which the main topic is thepoor parenting on Marvelous Missus Basil. I
hope you saw the thread. It'sfunny because most of the people responding are
really upset and worried about fictional ethanand esther and she they're fine. She

(01:09:13):
put up a screenshot and the personsays, if she was married four times,
she definitely knew the difference between aloneand lonely. She has Susie.
Neither of them were alone or lonely, they had each other. And then
the person, yes, I totallyagreed. And then Montana Forca, this
is the person she's talking about. She said, they wanted you to see

(01:09:33):
these things and realize what not tofocus on in your life if you don't
want to end up lonely. Andthen Elizabeth and Liz, she said Montana
four Cia seriously this was not fiveseasons of fantastic television intended to life Coach
the Last, which is very true. Yeah, I think that. I

(01:09:54):
think that if we know one thingabout Amy Sherman Palladino, like as I've
said, she kind of writes thesethings that like people. Often I think
it's because of the detailed, likemysterious television shows that super like into the
human psyche and like you know thoseshows like Dark and God I'm the Last,

(01:10:15):
Oh my God. Yeah, it'slike mind bending kind of shows that
you really have to think about howthese people are thinking and watch though from
Yes Mazel to something like directs, they're just not they're not trying to get
into our heads to tell us thatwe're up. Yeah. Yeah, it's
not that. It's not that Mazeldoesn't go super deep. It does.

(01:10:39):
You can read this show on avery deep, emotional, character driven level.
But it's like a lot of thetime I find myself saying, when
I start to look at the showat a super deep, detailed level,
I often go like, it's justAmy short and valid. Now she's because
she doesn't even intend it, Likethe that Mark Marin podcast that she was
on. One of my favorite partsof that was her addressing all of the

(01:11:00):
criticism that the show was receiving aboutMidge being a terrible mother and asp avoids
reading like she didn't have social media, she didn't look she does not,
but comments she doesn't look into thatstuff. And so Rachel Brosnahan would go
to her and be like, ohmy god, like do you see what
they're saying? And Amy was shewas concerned that Rachel was concerned about everyone

(01:11:26):
is saying that Midge is like abad, terrible mom, and esp was
just like, who gives a fuck, Like that's not that's not what this
is for. And I think shewas making a point like with all of
these great comedians and entertainers and youknow, famous people, the point is
that they're kind of shitty parents tomake the next batch of fabulous comedians and

(01:11:53):
entertainers. And I was like, yeah, that checks out. Like Esther
was hilarious and intelligent and driven, and I don't think we're supposed to read
that much into her parenting. AndI do think it's just kind of you
know, people really like to findthings to criticize sometimes, especially about women

(01:12:14):
and women who have ambition and chooseto you know, make a career out
of it, and even if they'renot intending to, I think that projection
really comes out. So I thought, I don't know, I might do
a deep dive with Midge and allof these old articles I found about her
being a terrible mother, because itjust seems so nonsensical to me, like,

(01:12:39):
of course she's not a good mom, she didn't want to be a
mom really, and she's a comedian, like she has ambition. Just pay
attention to that part of the show. And I'm not at all and I'm
not at all saying that like someof the behavior of Midge as a parent,
Like if I were to go throughand select little moments, I could
be like, yes, if youwere to really take this and read it
seriously, this is not good parenting. This is terrible. It's like they

(01:13:02):
left a baby in the car.Well yeah that too, but Ethan and
esther during her big four minutes moment, like we have no idea where they
were, but that's not the point, Like it's they were with Moish.
They were with Moish while he wasyou know, on PA have to probably

(01:13:23):
and probably boxed why I love it, But as someone who has never wanted
to be a mom and never wantedkids. That was just not in the
cards for me. I think Itold my mom when I was twelve that
I just didn't see myself having kids. I think it's kind of refreshing sometimes

(01:13:45):
for Amy Sherman Palladino's kind of snarkytake on things, because it makes me
feel a little bit better. Okay, it's like, you know, and
from the other side as a parentwho who wanted to be a mom and
is happy to be a mom.But I also enjoy my career and I
also enjoy sometimes dabbling in theater,so I can do both and still be

(01:14:11):
a great mom. And but Mike, but yeah, do you But do
you sleep? Erica, that's no, because it's a no. I know
it's a no. I do not. I haven't, but you know in
a very long time. You know. It's funny though, is that like
I don't either, and I don'tand Kara, I'm sure you know none
of us can sleep. What isthat mean? And it's because of you
know, podcasting as well. ButI don't have kids, so it's like,

(01:14:32):
truly, I just don't. Myhats hats, all of the hats
go off to you mothers, like, seriously, but Kara, and even
even though you two, because Harais a serious you got some babies you
got, they're not human babies she'sgot yeah, she's scaly babies. Harry
babies. Yeah, scaly babies.I have two fur babies too, Okay,

(01:14:55):
And that's just see there she goesagain, showing off Erica. Yes,
I have no pets, but thatis just because my own personal grooming
is time consuming enough. I ammy own pet, I am my own
cat. She's a good auntie, right, I really am. That cracks
me up well. And it's like, my best friend is a mom.
Her son right now is foreign. She is any minute now about to give

(01:15:18):
birth to her second son. Andshe's an attorney like me and I All
the time, I'm just like,I don't know how you guys do this,
Like I have no idea how howyou have the energy to get up
go to court but also take careof all the kid things all the same
time. So I do appreciate thatpart of Mazel where we see how much

(01:15:40):
time she's away from her kids.That's not a coincidence, and it's a
little bit of realism, and thatthe grandparents are watching her children, and
they're good grandparents, which is nice. Yeah, but I am they're okay
grandparents. They're not good at theywere good at the discipline and everything,
but they love the kids. Theydid love their grids. I did not
walk away from this show being likewhat about Ethan and Esther? Like why

(01:16:04):
didn't we see how they turned out? They're fine? Well that was I
remember saying it though. That wasone thing that I really felt was a
I did a very apparent loose thread. Yeah, yeah, because seriously,
you guys, I'm sure. Yeah, she left off the sorry we're doing

(01:16:25):
it again, she started off thewhole entire season like we opened the season
with Esther and nothing from that exchangeand that conversation came up again except for
saying she could always talk to Abeand then we saw why. But that
did kind of bother me. Iwas like, why did you focus so

(01:16:47):
much on this? Maybe there wasmore that was like edited out. Maybe
maybe it was for Rose because wesuspected that she had something. But yeah,
you're right, I agree they listenerswho have gone back. I know
that a lot of you guys havestarted to go back and do a rewatch
of season five, like let's watchit from the beginning, not having to
wait a week in between and seehow it plays differently, like getting to

(01:17:10):
binge it or getting to watch theepisodes, you know, closer together.
And I know, I'm sure alot of people have felt that, yeah,
what happened to those kids because theywere made such a thing at the
beginning, so much time, noteven the time spent, but just the
fact that we got our very firstwelcome back to missus Masel and it was
her daughter, like it was Estherlike grown up? What is in another

(01:17:33):
total different modern time, well moremodern time for missus Mazel, you know,
and it was very jarring and wewere like kind of whiplashed into these
flash forwards with the kids and thenyeah, it was it was the biggest
like what did that go for me? When when the show ended? Not
because I was concerned for their wellbeing, but because like I just wanted

(01:17:54):
a little closure, like you gaveus so much and then nothing something we
saw even again in the church churchsynagogue with Hava, like we saw him
at least one more time, butwith Esther, Yeah, we just don't
know. And I fully anticipated, especially since Asp and Daniel Palladino confirmed that,

(01:18:17):
you know, it was basically itwas cancer that Rose had in an
interview. I just I thought therewas going to be some sort of tie
in. But it's like you weretalking about earlier jags like ASP will set
up these storylines where you think it'sgonna be deeper or connected, and then
nothing happens from it, and youcan't, you can't. You just gotta

(01:18:41):
let it go. Guys. It'sjust you're gonna enjoy life more. You're
gonna not be constipated, You're gonnanot get heartburn if you just let it
go. You know, just let'snot dwell on the back. We didn't
get that very thing, but maybeSherman valided out. It's like she's she's
doing a lot. She's a littleall over the place, and it's why
we love the girl, you know. Soone has their strengths, everyone has.
They were told that this was goingto be their final season. This

(01:19:05):
is not how she would have plannedfor it to go. So I have
a lot more grace for her andfor well yes, but but but but
there's a butt coming that the andit's a big butt. Now though you
were going to ask me how bigis the butt Jane. Yeah, Um,
there's a there's Kevin Pollock's uh podcast. He interviews. I think it's

(01:19:29):
his Michael Zegan interview where he doessay at the very beginning, or at
least by season two, Amy hadtold everyone we have a five season arc
planned. So Amy Sherman Palladino hasmade a lot of complaining and griping and
you know, blaming Amazon for like, oh, they have the orcs to
pay fors are so expensive. Yeah, like they cut our budge because they

(01:19:50):
need to pay for like sci fiCGI. And she's like, but the
actors have said she did plan ona five season at the beginning, you
know, So I don't know ifthat may be changed in her mind,
if she did want to go longer. I mean, I'm sure that when
she sees the success. And theydid give them like ten or eleven episodes,

(01:20:12):
So when I heard that, Ithink that was in the mention in
the Mark Marin podcast. When Iheard that, I was like, you
could have given us more, becauseI was going to dumb. Episodes could
have absolutely been fleshed out more andspread out, so, you know,
but it was still enjoyable. Iloved pretty much every minute watching it,

(01:20:32):
so I won't complain too much.Yeah, Yeah, And I would be
surprised if in a couple of yearstime we didn't get some kind of a
reunion in the form of a miniseries or or a film, because I
mean, if there's one thing thatASP loves, it's like, let's get
the band back together, man, let's do a revamp. And if I

(01:20:53):
can just say one little thing aboutGilmore Girls A Year of the Life and
I just recently rewatched it, andin my opinion, my humble opinion,
I feel that they clearly had towork so hard to reach to get the
cast members back. It felt strained. Man, I did not remember it

(01:21:13):
feeling that strained when I first watchedthat A Year in the Life I did.
I was shocked at how I trulycame away at the end of that
rewatch feeling maybe it just shouldn't havedone it though. Well, like Jared
PADILLACKI moment with Dean coming back inthe store, I was like, Okay,
okay, way they and then Jesscoming back with Milo. They just

(01:21:35):
really love Milo Vintimiglia and need himto be present as much as possible.
They really do. Yeah, Imean, and who doesn't. I mean,
I'd love me some. But theway that like lane was used is
just weird. I just found myselfa lot of the time watching that.
I found myself a lot of thetime going, Okay, logically, there

(01:21:55):
should be these characters in this sceneright now, but I'm thinking to myself,
the actors couldn't get out of theircontracts or their schedules or whatever.
The whole Melissa McCarthy of it all, it just felt so obviously strained the
time constraints that like it just wentbeyond believable. Roy Choy that like,
oh, I was like, thisis not I'm sorry if you guys,
can hear my dog hurling himself atthe door right now and crying. He's

(01:22:19):
very upset that he has not allowedto podcast too right right now. I
need we need her. You gottashare, man. No dogs are harmed
in the making of this podcast, though. He's just dramatic. So if
you hear a noise and you wonderwhat is shrinking? That is Riley.
He's fourteen though, so he's alittle old man. He's just dramatic,

(01:22:43):
little krim budget he's a budget pop. All right, let's get back to
this listener feedback. But yeah,no, that's my that's my hot take
on A Year in the Life.I just feel that it's like I don't
want to say, like, well, I you know, I like to
be happy with what I get asa viewer, but I kind of it
was so glaringly obviously difficult to getall the cast members back for that that
I'm like, maybe you should havejust not especially on a rewatch when it's

(01:23:06):
so much more glaring than like stayingup till midnight the night it comes out
and it's like devouring it. Soyeah, it's true it hit totally differently.
But I will say Alex Borstein showsup in some piles of prosthetics,
old age makeup. I forgot thatshe was in A Year in the Life.

(01:23:27):
I truly forgot, and I waslike, for shame, but I
forgot this. But you guys,I honestly don't know if I recognized her
the first time I watched it,because Alex Borstein wasn't on my radar as
much, you know, because MissusMaisel. I think it just just dropped
its first season. When when ayear and when did a year? Or
it was it was about too itwas about to come out. Yeah,
so I wasn't really aware of AlexBorstein. She plays a character in that

(01:23:49):
in some serious makeup and prosthetic everything. Like she's unrecognizable. She's sucking at
it, enomonal. This woman issuch a good actor. It's ridiculous.
It's like insane. I can't,I can't. I was. My jaw
was on the floor when I saw. I'm like, that's fucking Alex Borstein.

(01:24:11):
Oh, she's so good in this, all these crazy makeup things.
Oh man, that's true. I'mwild, wild all right. I think
it's my turn. Go for it. I can't remember. Okay, yeah,
as your dog is like, it'slike, let's see Vicky. She
very kindly spelled out how to sayher last name fanetically. Yamashta said,

(01:24:38):
I have listened to part one ofthe finale episode and I'm twenty minutes into
part two. So another listener mayhave an observation like the following here goes.
After rewatching the finale multiple times andfollowing many Facebook fan pages, I
don't think i've heard anyone yet.Give Joel enough credit. When he and
Midge assume she's going to get todo stand up on the Gordon Ford Show

(01:25:00):
for him fullheartedly giving Midge permission touse their story. In her bit,
I feel like we talked about thatbecause I thought that was huge for him.
But she goes on to say, seriously, if that wasn't the most
generous expression of love, I don'tknow what else he can do to make
up for his mistakes. The secondthing he doesn't get enough flowers for is

(01:25:24):
how he went to prison prison prison. Yes, that's great. Yeah,
it's true. It's that's that's big. That's pretty big. That is pretty
big. And she said great literarycharacters are flawed in my yes, absolutely,
in my opinion, Joel shouldn't getthe what is that luo? Oh?

(01:25:48):
Oh the large share? I think? Okay, it's like, oh
yeah, she means that Joel shouldn'tget like the majority of the critics criticism,
right, Okay? Is is luosome new slang that I don't have
the lases some I'll get on it. Maybe the lion's share. Maybe that

(01:26:11):
was a auto correct, I don'tknow, maybe, but then she said
hashtag, Oh Joel, I willsay I agree that. Wait read the
second email first, because then okay, she wrote a follow up email okay.
Her follow up says, Hello, eep, I just heard my email
read I appreciate your compliments. Ihope this is the right place to respond

(01:26:31):
to your podcast question about posting theattached photo. The answer is yes,
awesome. And my friend's name isKelly And if you guys remember, yeah,
Vicky is the one she she sentus a photo on our last listener
feedback episode. We have yet topost those photos and we wanted to wait
for this episode to post all thephotos. So we're gonna be like,
such good pictures. We're gonna haveErica's photos from her you know, performances,

(01:26:55):
and we're gonna have a bunch oflike we're going to be flooding the
Instagram with all of you you guys'sphotos and some of ours as well.
So that at the time of thispodcast, when was that? Was that
the finale episode in her last whereshe sent her last email with those photos,
So if you guys remember, inthat episode, in her email,

(01:27:17):
she referenced gifts that were handed outand she included a photo and she said
it's this pink sleep mask with theclassic Midge catchphrase on it, thank you
and good night, and it isso freaking cute. I want that bad.
Well, now, Vicky, Iwant to know if that is your

(01:27:38):
bathroom. I know, the fantasticpink tile and like kind of minty turquoise
blue tiles. That's pretty perfect.Yeah, the bathroom of the house that
I lived in college looked like that, but it was not so cute.
But I love it. I willsay, I think it's very true to

(01:28:00):
point out how great literary characters andcharacters in general, are flawed. Nobody
wants to watch a Mary Sue like. It's just not interesting. It's more
realistic when they're flawed. And weabsolutely know that Joel is flawed. But
I do agree, and I dothink we touched on this that it was
huge for him to go on andsay it's okay for you to use me

(01:28:25):
in your act if you need to, because of how difficult it was for
him to, you know, hearher talk about him in the past because
he loves her. That's why Iwas fully converted to team Joel by the
endividually when they had their kiss.So it's like this, it's like this,
if I'm gonna go and talk aboutmy gut reaction to the Joel's heroing,

(01:28:46):
you know and his heroic acts oflike, yes, he went to
prison for this person, you know, that is huge to do. My
gut reaction was handed to my heart, Oh, Joel, I love you.
That was my gut, my gutreaction. I will be very honest
with that. So and I waslike, what had happened to me?
I'm such a Joel lover? Butwhen you want to when you want to

(01:29:08):
watch it from another it's like Isee it with two minds. I'm like,
but God, why does a guyalways have to come in and white
knight this shit? And if Joel, I also will say, my gut
reaction to Joel's storyline overall is youcould have given him like a storyline.
His only color, like I said, was redemption. That was he was

(01:29:29):
painted very flat this season. Sothat is a bummer because I would have
loved for him to have more todo. They probably And this is what
I would also love to ask AmySherman Palladino, is what they had planned
for him before the whole They saidthey had dooryline. They said that they
had oh yeah, before the basestoryline. Yeah. They said that they
had to resist the urge to makehim in Midge end up together at the

(01:29:54):
end of season five, which I'mglad they resisted. I get it though,
like it seemed to be pointed leaningtowards that, with just the universe
that they created on the show, that would have made sense. But I
was very happy. I thought itwas great that she ended up by herself,
that she was completely what I readas satisfied and happy with her success.

(01:30:15):
She achieved what she wanted. AndI know I have seen Facebook comments
and comments here and there about peoplementioning how sad they thought it was that
she had that exchange with you know, her staff about filling up her Tuesday,
and I was just like, lookthis, she loves working, she

(01:30:38):
loves what she does. She hasthe ability at this point in time to
take a step back and relax andretire if she wanted to. But this
is what the thills her. AndI saw that as lending itself even more
to pointing out that she's not lonely, like like Alex Sporsien said that interview,
the only lover she ever really washer success and what she achieved.

(01:31:02):
And I see the same with Midge. So I am glad that they didn't
ultimately have her in Joel end uptogether. She can still appreciate him and
love him, but that doesn't meanthat she has to be tied to him.
Yeah, I wonder what would havebeen sadder, like what people would
consider more sad watching her, youknow, Oh, how how sad she's

(01:31:25):
been all alone in her big mansionand she has to fill up every single
day because she can't relax for asingle day, Like she doesn't know how
to relax, Like she's such aworkaholic. Like, oh, that's so
sad she's alone, or it wouldhave been more sad to see she's married
to Joel and she has to say, no, I can't do that concert
like oh Carnegie Hall. I wishI could, but I got this family
stuff and now now I'm a wifeand a mother, And you know what

(01:31:46):
would have been more So I thinkthat this whole show is it's it's a
glimpse at a girl who finds herselfin a time when it was groundbreaking to
find herself in this unique kind ofway. She realized, Yeah, sure
I love being a mom, SureI love being married. Like that's all
good. I'm good at it.But just because you're good at it doesn't
mean it's your calling, and Ithink that this other thing over here is

(01:32:09):
my calling with this weird little otherperson that I think might be my person
in life. They are totally platonicsoulmates and I love that. And I
think we saw her freak out ather little college reunion when they were all
addressing how this will be such anice chapter of your life to look back

(01:32:30):
on fondly with your grandchildren, andshe was just like, how no,
that's not what I want, likethis chapter? Yeah, like this is
it? So I completely agree witheverything you just said. Jakee. Well,
thank you're daughing. Shall we moveon? We gotta we gotta quit
spending on each email. Yes,okay, we got a voice message from

(01:32:50):
Greg Gunther. I know it's hardbecause we miss each other and you know,
we would just want to keep talking. It's how good hope the listeners
are with us. We find Greg'sgreat great. Where are you? Greg?

(01:33:17):
Greg Gunther's a fun name too.Hey, they're Jade, Kara and
Erica literally just wanted to send anothervoicemail. I really enjoyed hearing all the
voicemails, but it's kind of coolto hear your own voice. Let's react
to it, but appreciate so muchyour podcast and everything you guys have done

(01:33:39):
for the show. It's so greatto hear everybody's opinion on it and to
hear different perspectives, and I justam gonna miss it so much anywhere you
guys talk about it. I justwanted to talk about the detail that I

(01:34:00):
thought was pretty interesting that you guysmay have noticed but may not have noticed.
I loved the Carol Burnett sequence fromthe finale, and Shy is such
a fun song from a great littlemusical that not that many people know about.
And you mentioned it was Once Upona Mattress, but I thought it

(01:34:21):
was kind of cool that the episodebefore episode eight, the title was The
Princess and the Plea, which isobviously Once Upon a Mattress as a story
of the Princess and the Pope, and I thought that was just kind of
a cool callback. I was fortunateenough when I was in college to have

(01:34:42):
the role of the minstrel in productionof it. Was such a great experience,
so I thought i'd give you justa short snippet of what I did.
I apologize if it offends anybody, but I don't think it was no
apologies, it is necessary many moonsin a far off place to some prince

(01:35:06):
with a gloomy face for he couldnot find up broad anyways. Part of
what I do, I'm I lovethe singing. I'm a singer, a
music teacher, do all those kindsof things. So it's a lot of
fun for me to reminisce a littlebit about that. Thank you guys so

(01:35:30):
much. Look forward to talking toyou guys again soon. Oh my good
guys have the best listeners, AndI love Once Upon a Mattress. Like
if you are listening in your indotheater at all and you have not seen
that show o YouTube YouTube, butit's so good. Yeah, it's fantastic.

(01:35:58):
That made me so happy, Ithink nating us. No one's ever
done that ever on any listener feedbackI've ever heard, so that was an
amazing first and of it. I'msmitten. I'm I'm also impressed with how
good that sounded, considering it wasjust like a voice recording over the far
just an a capella. Yeah.Yeah, yeah. He says he's a

(01:36:19):
music teacher, and that's incredible. You're very talented, sir, Your students
are fucking lucky. Yes, thankyou, Thank you. Greg. Oh
my gosh, I love this.Okay, let's keep it going, Kara,
you want to take that next one? Sure? Our next email comes
from Gary A. Knox and hesays, marvelous, mazal Maven's too.

(01:36:42):
I came to your podcast late, discovering the four minutes episode while searching online
for discussions of perhaps the greatest televisionseries ever. I felt the need,
I felt the need to connect withothers with such good taste. I will
be going back and listening to allthe prior episodes and I'm looking forward to
your rewatch of the series. Thankyou, he says. Now onto my

(01:37:06):
take on Gordon Ford. You guyslike everyone else character and rightley, so
he's a pompous ass, but youalso didn't like the writing in the final
scene with him and Midge taking thePalladinos to task for his sudden, unbelievable
change of heart towards her. Mytake is this, what choice does Ford

(01:37:29):
have in this situation? I meanthat that was the issue. He said,
It's live TV and this quote unquotelady writer has just stolen the spotlight
from him and won the hearts ofmillions of people. This woman who previously
had spurned his romantic advances, whorightfully criticized his Elmer Fudd monologue. That

(01:37:51):
was one of my favorite parts. He said, his male ego cannot take
this. He knows she's funny, probably funnier and more talented than him.
He has to own the situation, control the narrative. Of course, he's
going to bring Midge to the couchand put his stamp of approval on her.
He knows she's going to be abig star, probably eclipsing him.

(01:38:13):
Now. He imboasts that he GordonFord discovered the marvelous missus Mazel and as
a last bit of control, hefires her, knowing full well she is
going to quit. Makes perfect senseto me. Yeah, all of that
I agree with, absolutely agree. But it just disgusts me and like really

(01:38:33):
distracts me the way that it wasnot filmed in a way to show well,
the guy's only doing it because he'sso selfish. I mean, what
choice does he have. Obviously heknows he's gotta you know, the look
at He's got an audience of peoplewho love her. All the viewers are
going to love her. He's realizingthat he's outnumbered, so he has to
come in and be but let me. I'm sorry, Han. It was

(01:38:53):
filmed in such a way that wewere supposed to applaud him and say,
oh, Gordon Ford, you're Didwe forgive you? Fuck that? No,
I don't forgive you, you fuckerway too little, too late me
No, likey this, thank you. But know that he knew he didn't
have a choice at that point. He's not an idiot. He can spot

(01:39:15):
talent. He knew she was killingso I just switched for him to But
I just wish that they had gonewhole hog on it, that they had
doubled down on what they had givenus. With Gordon Ford. You you
started out with like a character thatcould go either way. I mean,
I never loved him, but thenyou clearly took him to asshole Bill.
You know, you took that assholetrain all the way and he got off

(01:39:38):
the train and he started hard.Yeah, oh yeah, hard. Right.
We pivoted with Gordon Ford, youknow, and it was like,
Okay, he's a bad guy, right, so why not just go all
in and write him at the endas a guy who's clearly a snaky,
snake, sly little fucker who's onlypaying lip service to the audience and then
maybe just have a scene later whenhe says something to Mike like that fucking

(01:40:00):
bitch, I'll get her, yes, and like leave a little like,
oh now it's gonna be Mazel versusGordon Ford, and she's going to become
a better talk. She's going tohave her own show and she'll be better
than him, Like why not giveus our dreams? You know what you
had to play, Gordon Ford, because I mean what you're saying, and
this email is my cannon. It'smy head cannon. That's totally how it
went. I mean, Gordon Forddid not mean a word of that marvelous,

(01:40:24):
magical missus Mazel. No, hedidn't mean that shit because that's not
the character that was written. Butthe best way is my car told him
to sit down and stop acting likea bit seriously because that's yes, it
is wonderful. Yeah, yes, mike Y. Yeah. Anyway, let's
get back to the email now.I just had to sorry, I just

(01:40:45):
Gary goes on to say some morerandom thoughts about the finale. So I
think in the opening scene with Lennythat Midge did see his performance, probably
standing in the back where he couldn'tsee her, and then she went outside
in the alley to wait for Susie. The look of devastation on her face
even before she hears Susie's bad newssuggests that she had just witnessed something tragic.

(01:41:08):
The integration of her friend and mentoryeah, I could see that.
Said, the exclusion of Moist's reactionto Midge being funny on The Gordon Ford
Show for whatever reason scheduling conflict withKevin Pollicker otherwise, is inexcusable. Really
sad YEA ideally he should have beenin the audience with everyone else. But

(01:41:30):
if that wasn't possible, they couldhave easily done a pickup shot him watching
her on TV while baby sitting thegrandkids. Yep, I did vision Moist
watching it incredulously and then having thekids run noisily through the room and him
yelling, shush, be quiet, your mom's being funny on TV. I

(01:41:54):
would have liked that a lot better. I have been great, Verry,
you're a writer man, And Ithink Midge's old age makeup was just fine.
It was realistically bad, just likea lot of aging stars in Hollywood.
Yeah, maybe Midge just got alot of botox or something. Yeah,
that's why. So I'd like herinspiration Joan Rivers. Maybe there had

(01:42:16):
been some ill advised face work donethrough the years. I like that explanation,
headcannon headca that keep up the greatwork, my best, Gary,
Gary. Oh yeah, loving thisOkay, So now Gary sent us a
second email. He said, wow, I found this nineteen sixty six Joone
Rivers interview on YouTube inspiration for episodefive. Such a good interview. Yeah,

(01:42:41):
I just I just put this upon our socials and I will link
it in the show notes. Buthere is a little bit of that interview
because it is very, very similarto what they showed us in the Testamoshiel
when she was being interviewed at thatweird construction site. You guys remember they
were like heading outside, they werelike bulldozers and background. But I don't
know what that was all about. And I mean no, I don't even

(01:43:02):
think we have we ever talked aboutit on our podcast, but yeah,
what was that? Um? Butthis is it's very reminiscent just the way
Joan Rivers speaks in this interview.Well, you'll see here, I'll play
it. Telling me before we wenton Joel that there are things you can
say bank club that we're just turninganybody right off completely. Yes, you

(01:43:23):
can't. Absolutely you can talk aboutPresident Johnson. You can call him my
hand with which I agree with. And you can talk about missus Johnson.
You know, there's stupid programs, and you mentioned the name Kennedy, even
if you just say one night Jackiewas in front of my club. I
came in and it's a big crownbasing the wrong way, which up sent

(01:43:44):
me. And because she was standingin front looking for a taxi, so
I came on stage and I said, oh, Jackie Kennedy's up front with
a date, and the audience roseup said she doesn't date, no,
no, and I lost the wholething. Afore you hysterical. I can't
mention the Kennedy. Thank god,un dude, this. I love her

(01:44:10):
so much. She's such a delightto watch her videos. I mean,
God, what a breath of freshair, what a groundbreaking and like in
my lifetime truly, you know,I just remember like turning on you know,
like the QVC network, you know, as a growing up as a
kid, and she was always she'salways on TV. John Rivers, I
watched her on Hollywood Squares with mygrandpa. She was always center square,

(01:44:33):
but say, yeah, she wasso hilarious. And then of course her
red carpet, her carpet banter withher with Melissa Rivers. I loved it
so much. And all I canthink to myself is like, damn if
I had just appreciated her more whilewe still had her, Because just at
the moment when I started to reallyappreciate what she was doing and realize,
like, damn, this woman issomething special. Like everyone, I feel

(01:44:54):
like everyone's always known it except me, and I just kind of came to
this very late in my in mylife. I should have figured it sooner.
But she is such a treasure.I mean, she's influenced our culture
in more ways than anyone realizes ittruly. So thank you Gary for bringing
that up. Listeners. I justlove that, like people are like because

(01:45:14):
I've seen that, you know video, and but the way our listeners like
remind us of stuff like this.Just the fact that he had to point
that out in an email made merealize, like, yeah, no,
we got to have some Joan Riversappreciation. So thank you, listeners.
Just tell us what is up?Tell us what's important. You guys know
you guys know you know all thethings, all right. Moving on to

(01:45:35):
our next email from Lisa Hilton.Hilton Hilton, Lisa, I'm gonna go.
I'm gonna go with Hilton Costa regardingold age makeup. Hi, guys,
I might eventually leave a voice message. Oh please, do you can
do it? Come on, boys, Bess, I want one, she

(01:45:56):
says, but I wanted to leaveyou something quick. I'm still listening to
four Minutes Part two podcast and wasthrilled to hear you read my emails.
I actually had forgotten that I wrotethe second one, so I squealed when
you read that one in particular.Yeah, just for kicks. Oh there
you go. Name pronunciation, justfor kicks. Last name is pronounced like
Costco, but with an A atthe end, So Costa, okay,

(01:46:17):
Costa. Well, how do youpronounce your middle name? Oh? Wait?
But I was very impressed that yougot Hylton. Oh well, apparently
I got it right the first time, She says, I got Hilton knife.
I think it was. I thinkit was, I said Hilton.
Okay, she said, typically peoplecan either spell or pronounce my maiden name,
and so it was cool that yougot it. Well, damn it,
I just met that whole thing up. I'm sure I just got it

(01:46:38):
wrong now, but I'm glad.I'm glad I did it the first time,
all right, She says. Onthe difference in aging makeup for Midge
and Susie, two thoughts. One, Alex actually is older than Rachel,
so that could impact it. TwoMidge would have been more focused on trying
to use everything available to her products, plastic surgery, et cetera, to

(01:46:58):
stay as young looking as possible, where Susie has a definite lack of GAF
give us a fuck, right, she lacks the fucks on that's on such
things. Yes, and so itmakes sense to me for Susie's aging to
be more natural. And I lovethat long silver hair. Yes, it's
cool. That's great. Plus theHawaii or Hawaii SK location. Everyone thinks

(01:47:19):
it's Hawaii. It's so funny. It was California. That's funny. Um.
Because of the Hawaii or Hawaii SKlocation for Susie at the end makes
a lot of sense in relation tothe flash forward when mid should not get
married at the beginning of that Atthe beginning of that Susie was on the
phone with Dina talking about how muchshe loves Hawaii. That's I think the

(01:47:39):
reason that episode when she was Yeah, that's just seens. Susie has a
great interior decorator. Yeah, becausethey nailed that vibe. Yes, she
says, love you guys, andso enjoying listening to this and already looking
forward to the rewatch when you getthere, love Lisa, Thank you Lisa.

(01:48:00):
And yeah, I really do thinkthat the listeners, everyone who thinks
that that they just took for grantedthat Susie ended up in Hawaii because because
how much she loved Hawaii in thatwedding moment. Yeah, and she has
enough money to make it look likemake her own little Hawaii in California.
All right, So so Kimberly.Kimberly Rizzo says, the podcast is marvelous.

(01:48:23):
Thank you, hi, ladies.I'm just finishing the first part of
the four First, the first fourminutes. I'd love to leave a voicemail.
Oh, another person who wants toleave a voicemail, please do.
I've been embarrassed that I literally hada Google of Jade was actually Marion Rose.
Jade has not done any of herRose today. Your voice is identical

(01:48:46):
and I find it so inviting.I love the length of your podcast.
Not sure if oh I sat pugever Apple, oh gover heard of the
skip button? I love I chooseto take the time to email this with
love and please to continue Titsa.Remember, being a coward is only cute

(01:49:12):
in the Wizard of Us. Adoringly, Kimberly, we adore you, Kimberly,
thank you. I love it.I will I will do a little
Rose for you. What was itthat she said, Um, I cannot
expose these women to bear naked floors. It would be indecent or what did
you say, not indecent? Whatwas the word that she said? It

(01:49:35):
would be? Oh man, Ohno, I forgot it. Indecent sound
right to me. I was forgetting. I'm forgetting my lines. That was
a good paraphrase. Y she saidsomething like that. Oh god, I'm
miss quoting Rose as well. Ohman, Hinkle love you. Next up
is Melissa Raposa. Yes, andshe said found you guys at the end,

(01:49:58):
How did I just find you? Now? Act? Please do a
rewatch anyway, I did a voicememo. Hope you can hear it.
We love voice memos. I'm agame, all right, here she goes.
It is June ninth, twenty twentythree, and I just finished listening
to your episode about the final episodeof the Marvelous Missus Masal and I just

(01:50:25):
found your podcast and this is whathappens. I find something that I really
enjoy Not to say it's too late, Comma, but you know, here
we are. And I just wantedto give you some feedback because you guys
read a bunch of your feedback thatwas crappy, and you know, everybody's

(01:50:48):
got an opinion, but I reallyenjoyed it. I enjoyed hearing a conversation
with three women and talked about somethingthat they all enjoyed. And this series
is just so wonderful. It reallyshowcases the talent of normally the writers and
the crew. I mean, Ilove that you kept talking about the film

(01:51:12):
and the videography and the camera work, because it's just an incredible thing to
see, especially when you learn thata lot of it is done in one
take, and that just shows howtalented the actors are on this series.
I have I want I want topause really quick because I want to say

(01:51:32):
this, Well, I'm thinking ofit because I know I'll forget. On
our Facebook, I have a tonof videos of David Muller Mullins m David
Mullin, the cinematographer. He.I found a bunch of them on YouTube.
There's more than I thought there was, so if you guys want and
they're like pretty they're pretty long videostoo. Some of them I've seen before,
but there was like one or twothat I were brand new that I

(01:51:53):
was like, this exists? What? So I did a little digging for
you guys, So yes, checkthat out on our Facebook page. It's
it's incrediba. Watching the cinematography takelike shape on the show and become come
out of this man's brain into fruitionis just it's incredible. Okay, back
to the voice message. Loved themarvelous This Is Nasals since the beginning.

(01:52:15):
I fell into the series when Ihad seen an ad for it prior to
its premiere, and I have waitedwith bated breath to watch each season.
This season, I actually started itlate though, because I have had a
lot of big changes in my lifeand one of the things I've loved is
Nige and who she's trying to becomeand who she wants to be in the

(01:52:39):
type of life she wants and forme, you know, I love that
you guys really spoke about that finalscene, which of course was amazing when
she was on The Gordon Ford Showbecause that final monologue of the type of
life that she wants to live,it's very much how I've found I live

(01:53:00):
my life. And yeah, Ifind myself single yet again, but I
accept that all because I'm not somebodywho ends to the rules. I guess
I want big things and I wantpeople in my life who want big things
too, and we support each other. And well, I'm not sure,

(01:53:24):
but listen, if you guys doa rewatch, I would be absolutely thrilled
and it would be jazzed and Iwould love to listen to these episodes.
Did I go back and binge watchthe entire series after finishing season five because
I wanted to see where they connectedall the little dots, everything from Lenny
Shrug which just broke my heart,to you know you name it, Niche

(01:53:47):
wearing white. I would love tohear a conversation because strangely, I don't
know many people who watch the showso much like your podcast, the complaints
of others, I have gone onfar too long, and you're fine.
I love it. I think it'sgreat. Keep doing it. People can

(01:54:08):
always hit the stop button. I'mjust fast forward. Yes they can.
All right, Well, thank you, guys. I hope you get this.
I hope the file is not toobig for email, and I hope
that there is more take care ofthank your hopes, your hopes were all
realized. Babe. That was thatwas just incredible. That was wonderful.
That's such a great voice message.I love it. I just want to

(01:54:30):
chat with you, hon. Yousound so I want to chat with all
of our listeners. Well yeah, yeah, I mean I truly feel this
way. Like the smile on myface is so big it hurts. Like
guys, if you're not watching thisvideo on Patreon, I'm sorry, but
just you gotta do it because youlook really fucking cute right now. We
are submitting with joy and glee. You guys, well you like me.

(01:54:56):
I'm just curious how much wine carriagedrink um. Well, now she's got
her own conditioning one since she's allcomfy cozy. That's true. This bottle
is empty, but that's because mostof it is in my wine glass.
I thought you're gonna say that's becausemost of it is in my stomach.
I still have. It's a veryfull wine glass, and it's a big

(01:55:16):
one, so it's up. Iwas gonna say it's been a long week,
and it is. It's only Monday, Holy Monday. Yep, it's
been a long week. Oh God? All right, who's next to reading
the emails? I can think it'seither Jade or Erica. Erica, you

(01:55:39):
go, I could read it.Charity Dawn? All right, hello Charity.
Okay, I just had to saythis is this to someone? And
my dog doesn't seem to care.So here it is. When Hetty says
you owe me. Do we everlearn exactly how she convinces Princess Margaret to
come on the show? I gotthe vibe from the press that she was

(01:56:00):
a bit different than what I expectedfrom Royalty, so I looked it up
and sure enough, I am notthe first person to ask if Princess Margaret
was gayest Ah, that was interesting. So she posted this link and so
maybe ask a brick just to confirm. But I think the implication that Hetty
slept with Margaret, either specifically toget her on the show, or maybe

(01:56:25):
she was going to do it anywayand ask her to be on the show
as a way to provide value toher quote unquote husband Gordon and Exard is
beardiness like that. Yeah, interesting, that's spicy. Y'all have asked several
times, what does Gordon get outof it? Maybe this is just something

(01:56:45):
Hetty does covertly sleep with celebrities andeither convinces them or quours them them to
be on the show. Or maybeI make sure I'm both in that toxic
hetty sneak like charm that makes youwant to do what she wants while secret
feeling a bit sick while doing it. A kind of girl can ruin a
life and make you grateful she didso. Yeah that's my theory. Wow,

(01:57:06):
Okay, when I read this,I was like, Charity, Charity,
though, sweet char you are goingthere girl, Like I have never
heard of anyone on any message boards, on any Facebook threads, No one
has come up with this theory.I love this theory. Oh hello,
we have a dog. Welcome tothe party. Yeah, this is the
one who was trying to break thedoor down. I let him in so

(01:57:28):
well, welcome sir. You justRiley, You're so cute welcome Riley insinuating
to say high to Charity's dog exactly. Yeah, yeah, it was right.
It's good, perfect timing. Right. Yeah. So when I saw
this, um, I was like, uh yeah, like yeah, this
theory, yes please, this ismy favorite heady theory. Guys, this

(01:57:51):
is officially cannon. This is cannonfor me. Now. Yes, Princess
Margaret. If y'all don't know, she was a wild child, you know,
she was a crazy cool lady.I would have been very good friends
with her. What a what awhat a gal? You know, she
had a very colorful life. Let'ssay. And there's this article called that
I'll link called the Lavender Marriage ofPrincess Margaret, and it talks all about

(01:58:14):
you know, her and her husbandand like the affairs that they may have
had, probably very likely did have, um and possibly that she yeah I
didn't even remember. I knew thatthere was like a speculation that she might
be like pan sexual or bisexual.Um, so this idea is fabulous to
me. The fact that Hetty andPrincess Margaret were getting getting it on as

(01:58:38):
like her yes, snakes charming,So that would make sense yeah oh yeah,
oh yeah, I mean Nina Ariandacould get me to do just about
anything, let's be honest, Sothank you, Charity. Charity has written
some Facebook feedback which comes a littlelater as well, but now we have
something. So now let's get intoour Facebook feedback. And this first one

(01:59:00):
is from my Lisa silver Talevski Andthis is a mist This one I was
supposed to read way back when wewere covering doing our listener feedback on episode
eight, and I just kept forgettingto read this one, So I apologize,
But I just love reading Lisa's takesbecause they're so hot, hot fucking
takes. So yeah, so Ihad to get this one in here because

(01:59:23):
I just like that she brings adifferent you know, she brings a different
opinion to the table that some peopleyou know are more afraid to say.
So Lisa's never afraid. And shesays, I don't know if the writers
know. There is only one episodeleft, so much waste of time.
First of all, I'm sick ofthe kids. I was excited by the
flashboards, but now that we're atthe end, who the fuck cares?

(01:59:45):
Let's focus on the key actors. We know Vinch is gonna make it,
and why must it be on theGordon Ford Show. We got no real
backstory with Hetty, which there wastime in past episodes to do, but
we didn't. I want to seeflashbacks of Susie in love and now we
have her telling Ford to put Midgeon the show because he owes her,
owes her. What will we everknow or will we focus again on those

(02:00:09):
fucking kids. I feel like I'mwatching I Love Lucy and she's begging Ricky
to put her in the show. It's so fucking annoying. Ford is an
asshole. I have a feeling thelast scene in the episode will be Midge
on the show in front of themic, saying the predictable Hello, I'm
missus Maisel, and that's it.I feel like the show is taking right,
thank you, Thank goodness it wasn'tthat. I feel like the show

(02:00:29):
is taking a shit on me andtaking away everything I loved about it.
I was hoping Princess Margaret would somehowcatapult her career and that college reunion why
it was a waste of time.Midge is not deep enough to write a
one word Midge is not deep enoughto write I think she means more than
a one word answer. To herfuture self. There has been no little
interaction. There's been two little interaction. Oh sorry, there has been little

(02:00:53):
to no interaction between Midge and Susie. I totally feel a girl and I
feel that they're on two different shows. Yes, I have a feeling I'm
going to be super pissed off bythe last episode and fuck Joel, Lisa
love Lisa. I've got to stopthere. But you know, I do
agree with her. But like luckilythat Let's finale kind of made up for
it. Let's see what yes,so she says the last episode was bitter

(02:01:16):
sweet. I didn't hate it,no tears, but I did smile.
Gordon Ford truly and wholeheartedly pissed methe fuck off, thank you. A
man who wants to control Midge Annewants to put her in her place by
saying she's coming on as a writer. He wanted her to feel humiliated.

(02:01:36):
I know men like this. Mydad was like this his way or no
way, and women had to knowtheir place when he was laughing at her,
and when he was laughing at heract it didn't seem to fit with
his actions. Thank you. Whenhe stopped for a commercial, if she
was funny, or not, hewould still be fuming. So when she
was called to the couch, itwas surprising. It was surprising to me.

(02:01:59):
Saying she was fine wasn't surprising. The actor did good but not good,
not consistent in the character. Andthis is what I'm saying we talked
about in the finale. It wasthe writing. I do not blame.
It was the laugh. I thinkit was the little laugh that really it
was. It fell forced. I'msorry, yes, um, not sure
if that makes sense. The endingwas sad, two women old and alone,

(02:02:20):
watching Midge walk through empty rooms toa smaller room. I'm assuming her
comfort zone to watch Jeopardy on tape. I'm also assuming Joel is dead when
she positioned his photo. Yeah,I saw other people commenting that on Facebook.
All all that frame, all thatfame and alone on the phone.
Joel in the beginning was his onedimensional self. Yes, who got hurt

(02:02:42):
on that show? For an Oh? Who got her on that show?
Who got hurt on that show? For an X to be super supportive,
I'm not sure who got hurt onthat show? Oh? Like on my
masal, I'm assuming yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, um, yes,
Midge was was uh you know,I think she's referring to like how

(02:03:03):
he how Midge talked about him inher stand up um, and he said,
like you can use me. Shesaid that was lala shit there.
My most marvelous moment was when MoistenShirley were laying in the shower talking Caroline.
Aaron is sexy as hell in thatscene. Holy hell hot. We
talked about it, indeed true.Um. Now, my question for Matilda

(02:03:26):
was anyone on the show difficult?Probably she's not going to answer, because
we did. We asked Austin. One of the questions that we sent him
was who is your favorite person towork with? And he said, that's
the one question I'm not going toanswer because I will not single anyone out.
He's like everyone was delightful and he'slike, I truly mean that,
like there's not one him. Yeah. I believe him too, And so

(02:03:46):
I'm sure Matilda will not answer thequestion with anyone difficult, but well we'll
try. We'll try to ask her. Yeah, Lisa, Lisa wants the
team. She said, I don'tneed any names, but is there any
situation that that frustrated the cast?I don't know if she'll talk about it,
but we'll try. And lastly, thank you ladies for bringing different perspectives

(02:04:08):
to the of the show. Tome, the series definitely needs a rewatch.
We're getting to it. I'm sadto let the show go. It
was truly a hell of a ride, Lisa, I love it. Nice,
give me all the realness, allthe realness. Loved it, loved
it, loved it so refreshing, like mid herself. All right, moving

(02:04:28):
on, let's see Karen Lulo Pricesaid, I thought they did a good
job. Gordon was a jerk, but when he told her she was fired,
he redeemed himself because he saw shehad real talent and was wasting her
time just being a writer. Ilove the end knowing Midge and Susie were
still together in the relationship endured.YEP. Lots of different ways to different

(02:04:50):
ways to read yep, alex hexAlex Baylish friend friend, friend friend,
Well, it's a well. Asa lover of the show growing up in
the Tri State area, it wasso fun to watch. The show always
made you want for more, andthe final was no exception, or the

(02:05:11):
finale was no exception. How amazingit was to see when her big break
came she had to grab it bythe balls and take it. Fact.
Yeah, that fact that all thepeople she loved were there made it all
more special. The fact that sheand Susie see Friends the Bidder and watched
Jeopardy like too well abroad to docommitzing mee kmbitzing made me think of my

(02:05:32):
mom and my aunt without the bird. Of course, in the end,
she finished where she started, infront of a mic and a crowd talking
about her life tits up. Itwas such a great ride. Thank you,
Alex full It's true full circle anddude, and let me tell you
this was a full circle done well. And yeah, Amy Sherman Palladino,

(02:05:55):
I, like I said, afterMazel ended, I went back to watch
A Year in the Life because Icouldn't remember exactly the details of how she
wrapped up that one, and Iwas interested to compare the two. Let
me tell you some full circles,um are not great. Yeah, And
if you know, you know,I won't spoil anything about Gilmore Girls or

(02:06:15):
A Year in the Life, butthat ending was um yeah, that was
that was something. Okay, Josh, I'm not even going to try to
pronounce that. Last night, Ithink it's Sjovic. I think that cv
is is Polish for like chick oryeah vanivic, Josh, let us,

(02:06:39):
Josh, let us next time youwrite in, just give us a little
hyph you know of phonetically thank you? Yeah, um, he said.
My wife and I watched the finalelast night, and when the credits started
rolling, we were both left witha feeling of huh for some context,
For some context. We have adoredthis show since the beginning. The writing,

(02:07:00):
the acting, the costume, cinematography, music, all are really at
the top of the game at theirgame. We loved and cheered on Midge
and Susie for as long as ouryoungest child has been alive. That crazy,
it's been so long. I havesome core memories that existed around the
show, and while there was alot we enjoyed about the final season,
I'm left feeling sad. Not sadbecause the journey is over, but because
the destination seemed like such a lonelyone. Okay, the same same way

(02:07:24):
that Lisa. Lisa was viewing it, that this was a lonely send off
for Midge and Susie, or Ithink mostly for Midge. But we'll see
what he says. We were skepticalof the time jump framing device the show
decided to use for the final season. From the first episode, there were
times when my wife and I wouldthink, maybe this is a false reality.
This is our modern television viewing up. Yeah, it's made us.

(02:07:47):
It's made us watch things really closely, and like reading, we just go
right to like reading in between thelines and the devils in the details,
and like Amy Sherman Palladino, yougotta watch your shows in a different way,
you know. Sorry, so hesays, there were times when my
wife and I would think, maybethis is a false reality. What could
have been? But nope, atthe end of the day, she got
what she wanted, But at whatcost? Watching her schlep around that empty

(02:08:11):
house, afraid to have a daywhen she's not working because interacting with strangers
and making them laugh is all shehas oi so interesting. It's another way
to see it, yeah, knowing. Joel spends the majority of his adult
life in prison, a character weall rather hated in the beginning but grew
to love anyway because of the newway he and Midge found to support one
another. Are we supposed to beall right with that? For him?

(02:08:33):
The dynamic between children and parents wasalways shown to be complicated in the series,
and while Ethan and Esther were nevershown to be a priority for Miriam,
watching how disconnected and soured their relationshipwhat their relationships were as adults was
a painful thing to watch. Indeed, maybe at the end of it all,
the story is about how it isindeed lonely at the top, that

(02:08:56):
in pursuit of your craft you needto have tunnel vision and everything else is
secondary to that goal. And maybeI'm just grappling with the fact that even
though I myself could not find happinessthere, maybe Midge can. And maybe
when she steps back and looks atit all, she'll be content with the
choices she made. But as anaudience member, it was tough saying about
these characters we love, knowing weleave them so alone. Oh well,

(02:09:18):
I love how many different perspectives we'vegotten on the endow and I also love
the way for I was just saying, I can't remember which interview it was
with ESPN Daniel Palladino talking about howit was essentially intentionally open to interpretation.

(02:09:39):
Yeah, and I just I don'tknow. I loved that everything obviously,
we all project our own experiences andobservations on to what we view. And
it's funny because this is something thatI used to bring up in jury selection
all the time to get people understandjust how much your own experiences color what

(02:10:03):
you perceive and what your perception ofreality is. Because with me, like
watching that ending, I was sosatisfied because I love being alone. I
love because by myself. So justto bring up something slightly personal, I
went through a divorce within the lastyear and it was something I initiated,

(02:10:26):
and I have been so focused on, you know, being able to spend
time with me again and finding myselfagain and being on my own. And
I know that they're friends of minewho just would not feel the same way,
who do not like being by themselves, who don't like spending time alone.

(02:10:48):
So I think it's fascinating how drasticallydifferent the opinions we're getting on the
ending. Are people seeing it asa sad ending as opposed to people seeing
it as, you know, ahappy ending. I just it's I love
it, I could read yeah,And I love the room. I love
the way that Josh was able towrite this email too, because you he

(02:11:09):
like brought it back around, likehe talked about his own perspective, but
then he also acknowledged like the otherperspective. It's just great, good,
good job, Josh. This isan very insightful and I agree. I
agree about the Joel thing because yeah, I see, I did not read
the finale. I mean, Iguess I didn't really think about it that
hard. I didn't see the picturemoment as um to assume that Joel is

(02:11:31):
dead now because Midge isn't that oldand he's her age. So I'm like,
no, I didn't. My brainnever went there. But only now
listening to all this feedback and allof the stuff online where people are like,
so, Joel's dead, right, like all of her all those photos,
I'm like, I don't. Ididn't think so. I didn't.
Did you guys think because we didn'ttalk about it when we covered the finale,

(02:11:52):
I thought he was dead, Yeah, just because of you should have
mentioned it. I know, Ijust didn't even think about it. Because
dead, I think we're just solike overtaken by her moment that that was
just kind of you know, shewas just kind of looking at her memories
at that point. Yeah, Andthere was an interview that we talked about

(02:12:15):
in the finale where Amy and Danmentioned that they played with the idea of
them being either together or being separatebut married to other people and still being
in touch. So I think itwas ambiguous. They didn't say definitively whether
or not he was dead. ButI don't know if it was the way

(02:12:37):
that Rachel Brosnahan played that scene, but just the way she was looking at
it, looking at that photo andturning it around, made it seem kind
of nostalgic. No, there wasa poignancy to it. Yeah, And
I just went let to, oh, so he's dead and she's thinking of

(02:12:58):
him. Yeah, because I thoughtmaybe like if there was a postcard or
something like, I don't know, she could have looked at something else reflecting
on their time together. That wasacknowledging that he was still around and they
were still in touch. Yeah. And guys, I did not realize until
just now reading this this email fromJosh, that I, yeah, I
think it's pretty freaking egregious, evenmore so than the kids. This whole

(02:13:22):
Joel thing is really starting to bugme now because he got no backstory,
he got no unique story to callhis own this whole season. He was
only there to prop up Midge rightfor better if it worse. Not that
I not that I disliked the factthat Midge was getting help from him,
but like that was all he wasput there for. You remember how many
times he was just like, Idon't like those guys that Susie's working within
the mob. I sure it cutto Jewel's next scene, I sure it

(02:13:45):
an't like those guys. No,I don't. And then even though Archie
was like, yeah, okay,we get it, like like yeah all
the time, get over it,man, yeah, like sing another song
already, please, We're getting tiredof this one. I mean just truly,
like and then the fact that, yeah, the last thing we see
about him is that he's in jailand then he's dead in a photo like
God, where was Joel's full circle? Where one is as closure? Like

(02:14:09):
specifically said in an interview that shewanted that redemption arc for him. That
was her focus, that she wastired of these guys being portrayed as like,
you know, really shitty and theydon't get a chance to redeem himself.
So that is what she was focusedon. So I think she did
what she set out to do.It's just a little thing she desided for,

(02:14:33):
so may've done a little more thanjust like thing with Joel tells something
like anything else, anything else.We don't even know how his relationship and
his relationship ended up with his parents, or I mean, if we look
at it, what they look atWhere he started, he was working at
what the plastics company, and hehad this like far fetched dream of being

(02:14:54):
a comedian, and then you know, he had a little bit of an
early midlife crisis and he grew alot. He did grow. He worked
with his head, but he triedto do that. But if there was
one person who lost out at theend of this whole thing, it's Joel
Man. Yeah, like what Imean, I think his story is sad.

(02:15:15):
It's a tragedy. If you toldthis whole nasal from start to finish,
from Joel's perspective, what a tragictale. I think if he didn't
go to prison, I think hewould have been very happy because I think
he really loved being a club owner. I think he really found a passion
in it and he liked that lifestyle. But you're right, I think just

(02:15:35):
him going to jael In prittle much. Yeah, I'm telling you, I'm
telling you, it's all one colorwith Joel. It's just all one very
strong color of let's give him redempredemption. And it's a prison for I
don't remember. You see, wedon't know. It's all of muddy gray
zone. We don't know, andI didn't know. I don't So it
seemed about five years, yeah, because when we saw him get arrested in

(02:16:01):
the synagogue, and that was innineteen eighty, so really, I mean,
it takes a while to get arrestedand go to trial and YadA,
YadA, YadA. But I'm assuminghe didn't bond out or anything. So
nineteen eighty we know that he wasgetting Is that right nineteen eighty or was
at nineteen eighty five? I can'tremember. We would have to look at
this point. It was No,it was eighty five. I remember it

(02:16:22):
was eighty five, right, becausethen the Testerosteal episode was in nineteen ninety
and all of the you know, the hosts and comedians were mentioning that Joel
had just gotten out of prison, and we did talk about this in that
episode because we talked about white collarcrimes and five years would probably be the

(02:16:43):
minimum on money laundering, all ofthose charges that he was faced with.
So I think it's very reasonable toassume that he spent five years in prison.
Yeah, but he was also alittle older at that point, and
five years in prison when you're atthat age is not something light. So

(02:17:03):
that was rea because we saw Midgevisit him in nineteen eighty seven and they
talked about him being there for alittle while. So I think it's safe
to assume five years is that range? Oh yeah, I don't know.
I'm the more I think about theJeel thing, the more I'm just like,
wowtg oh Joel hashtag actual speaking ofthat, get to our next one,

(02:17:28):
Kara, our next email? Notemail? Facebook? Right, yep?
Facebook? Okay, Alicia Stout orAlicia Sorry, Alicia. I'm pretty
sure Alicia. That would make sense. Okay, she's written to us like
a million more times, a milliontimes before. You know what's funny is
like every other time, every othertime. No, I'm pretty sure that
we always say Alicia and it's right. I know that's right, that's how

(02:17:52):
you say her name. But it'sfunny because this this time, we're all
like question, like second guessing ourselves, and I think before in the past,
we've always just got on with ourfirst instinct and never questioned it because
we had already podcasted for three hours, and then we also had listener feedback,
so we're like, let's just getthrough it. And now we're like
taking our time, waffling how doI pronounce these names? Before, when

(02:18:15):
I was like, am I doingthis right? Am I not doing this?
I should just gone with my firstinstinct, it was right, Alicia,
she said, and that ladies andgentlemen is how you end a series.
Allie was live in studio and Iwas in the audience, I would
have stood up and clapped for tenor fifteen minutes straight. Bravo. And

(02:18:35):
I don't know of another show Ihave ever watched that has sent me through
every emotion I could possibly feel.I was happy, I was sad,
I was angry, distraught, butoverall, I think I cried so hard
knowing that Midge and Susie were friendsto the end. I just can't.
I mean, I'm a weepy,freaking mess and they're like fifteen crying.

(02:19:00):
I feel it, she said.I mean, if you saw our Instagram
story the other day with Jade andI's finale crying faces. You know,
we understand, she said. Honestly, I don't even know if I could
give a most marvelous moment, becauseI think the whole damn episode was a
marvelous moment. But I guess ithad to be one scene. I think
it maybe when Midge is walking throughher perfectly beautiful home reminiscent of one Miss

(02:19:26):
Sophie Lennon. She had everything likeSophie, the fancy house, each room
with fancy things, a big tableall set for like twenty people, and
a big, beautiful, fabulous kitchen, which she set in and enjoyed unlike
Sophie but also alone. Yep,I do think that was probably very intentional,

(02:19:48):
she said. When she left allthat behind and went to her favorite
or more basic and comfortable room tosit down and watch TV on the phone
while talking to soulmate Susie. Itwas fantastic, I agreed, because I
saw her going into that smaller roomis like cozying up and being all comfortable.
Yeah, She's just it was happy, Like I know, It's so

(02:20:09):
funny how we read our own livesinto it, and Kara and I are
just like, oh, to haveyour own little little space and like all
alone a big fabulous kitchen, drinkingwhat I'm sure was excellent wine, and
eating that dinner by made by yourpersonal chef, like yes, please,
yes, please, she said.At first I just couldn't get behind the

(02:20:31):
old age makeup, but soon afteryou forget about all of that because the
acting is superb and you're just readysaid ugh, I don't know what to
do with myself now, And thenshe said, Gordon Ford is a jackass.
That is all. That is mycrap. I'll drink. I'll drink

(02:20:52):
to that. Yeah, I justsaid, ps, please please do a
rewatch of this entire series, andwe will. It's so needed and I
just don't want it to ever end. I agree, said, Oh,
and I'm also on board with ated Lasso podcast, as suggested last week.
It is a mussy You've been suchan amazing podcast. Thank you,

(02:21:16):
and good night. Hashtag tits up, tits up, Alicia, thank you.
Oh oh my gosh, Okay,I just have to say something now,
like I was seriously thinking in mymind, every time we take we
take like a two second break, even when we weren't taking a break,
and even when we were going weekto week at the end there, and
we had started to get a lotof feedback from people, you need to
do a rewatch, you need torewatch. I was still like, yeah,

(02:21:39):
we'll do it, we'll do it, but it's probably not like the
most important thing, you know.Seriously, listeners, thank you for continuously
like every time you write an emailsaying and give me that rewatch, because
it's like just reminding me that, like okay, yes, but we really
need to do this though, likeno, it cannot wait, Jade,
like you maybe need to just sacrificea little more sleep because this rewatch really
needs to happen. Because every singlelistening's me more pumped up to do it,

(02:22:03):
Like yeah, me more amped togo back. Yeah, talk about
you guys. You guys were veryimpressionable podcast hosts over here. You can
truly make us do anything by complimentingus and just insisting that we do something.
So if enough of you band together, and enough of you have band
together and said give us the rewatch, so yeah, I really think it
needs to happen. We're going tohave to figure out a way to do

(02:22:26):
a Masal rewatch as well as onlymurders. I think I think we're going
to just need to figure it outand maybe watch more TV than I love.
Yeah, right, it'll it'll reallyhelp. If you guys will become
patrons on Patreon, that will reallyhelp if you want that rewatch to happen,
like truly, truly, and likeI said, if five dollars is

(02:22:46):
too much and you need me tolike bring it down to like three dollars,
I was thinking about going with threeright off the bat, like one
one dollar for each lady, foreach of us, but but then I
was like, no, but youknow what, it's like, we do
a lot, and our podcasts arelong, and the editing is long.
So maybe five dollars. So ifyou can swing it, please do and
and the rewatch will happen sooner thanlater. That's that's for sure. So

(02:23:09):
or let me know if it's tooexpensive. I don't know what things what
is money nowadays? Jesus, Jenny, I'm not arrested development when Lucille is
like, what could a banana costdollars? Lucille, Oh my god,
we are not that out of touch. No, we are not, Lucille
close to its Let's be honest.Let's be honest. I'm in a lot

(02:23:33):
of ways, I'm Lucile. I'vebeen told I've been told. Darn I
though, like I'm truly like goingto be Lucille when I grow up.
I kind of love it though I'mgoing to be a missimash between Moira and
Lucille. Yeah, it works, goals And if there were any other shows
I could podcast on, it wouldbe Ship's Creek in Arrested Development. Yes,

(02:23:56):
yeah, you know what kind ofpeople we are? Ye? All
right? Now our next email isfrom another We got some more from Vicki
Yamashta. She says, I havelistened to part one of the finale episode.
I love how everyone is like pausingafter part one and like gott to
leave us some feedback on it.I love that. I don't think I've

(02:24:16):
ever heard anyone yet give Joel enoughcredit. Here we go again, when
they assumed he's going to do standup on or when when they assumed she's
going to do a stand up onThe Gordon Ford Show for a full hearted
league, Oh for for fullheartedly givingMidge permission to use him to use their

(02:24:37):
story in her bit. Got lord, I'm gonna start that you have like
one shot of tequila Jane understand forthe for the for the video. I'm
going to leave it in because thatwas that was an effort, guys.
I don't know why that took. That was so difficult. I really am
not drunk at all. I'm reallynot well. We're going into hour three,

(02:24:58):
yeah right, yeah, it's nothingfor us, child's play for us.
Give me our six and then we'lltalk O God knocking on wood speaking
of Okay, okay, all right, Vicky Amashta says, I have listen.
I'm fucking not who am I kidding? I'm not cutting this. I'm
just it's all going on the podcast, all right, but I'll say it
again, Vicky Amasha I've listened topart one of the finale episode. I

(02:25:20):
don't think I've ever heard anyone yet. Give Joel enough credit when they assumed
she's going to do a stand upon The Gordon Ford Show for fullheartedly giving
Midge permission to use their story inher bit. Seriously, if that wasn't
the most generous expression of love,I decay what else he can do to
make up for his mistakes? Iagree? Hashtag Ojoel, I love this
hashtag going around. Keep it goinghashtag ojoel, and then she said another

(02:25:46):
message, l Ol, I'm crackingup because I got through our six of
your of your Part one and Parttwo finale episode and what I mentioned above
was literally the last topic you addressedbefore signing off. Hashtag tits up to
catching every detail. That's Vicky,Vicky babe. We're not going to six
hours today. We can't. Wecan't, we can't, We're cut off.

(02:26:09):
Yeah, it was great, SoHella Marie wrote to us and said,
my favorite scenes were the Chinese restaurant, then seeing her put the fortune
next to her heart before going outto perform, and actually keeping it all
those years. It was on thesame table her old wedding photo was kept.
And then the actually wait it wasgoing forward showed the fortune was I

(02:26:33):
didn't see it. I thought itwas in her little room. We're gonna
have to check that out. Yeah, that's yeah, it definitely is.
And my favorite. My next favoritescene was the last where she didn't end
up like Sophie and she actually watchedthe episode of Jeopardy with Susie and they
ended up chatting away missing the entirething. Talking about reincarnation. L Ol,

(02:26:56):
I was laughing and crying at thesame time as the fade out came
just a perfect ding. See shetook it so funny, talk about catching
every detail right with a fortune andeverything. But it's so cool, so
funny the way that like some peopleare like just like Sophie Lennon and then
she is like totally unlike Sophie Lennon. She's with It's true though, because

(02:27:16):
there is a different and I thinkthat that's gotta be said, is that
there is the difference between Sophie Lennonand Midge, is that Midge always has
Susie and god do Midge was whatshe wanted. Sophie was doing essentially what
she had to do because of whatthe people wanted, and she fit that

(02:27:37):
mold and Midge was able to doexactly what she wanted. And I think
that makes a big difference. Anda bunch of suits, a bunch of
you know, servants and DAWs doisn't that It does not a Susie make
you know, it's not an equivalent. So yeah, that ly Yilli,

(02:28:03):
good lord, we're at the bottomof the bottle, Lily. I guess
Jang, I'm gonna go Jang, said my fave scenes in the last episode,
the automat scene when Susie opens upabout her story about Hetty, the
emotion she's held all these years.Absolutely, Midge says, you'll find love

(02:28:26):
again, Susie, next ass whereyou ever a blonde? This made me
think of their relationship. It's nota romance love, it's a solid love,
be there for each other kind oflove. Yeah, I agree.
Her second scene was when Midge takesSusie aside at the Gordon Ford show and
says, I'm thinking of doing somethingthat might ruin us. What do you

(02:28:48):
have to say? And Susie says, you started out by doing something you
were not supposed to be doing,so tits up. Yeah, that's true.
That connection they had, the connectionthey forged. It's the whole show.
I agree. How they carve theirown way in a word, in
a world that says no. Ilove that. That's true because Susie brought

(02:29:11):
that up and was it grand centralthat scene where she's like, you know,
but what about all of these gordonFords, all these assholes who are
basically like, no, you can'tdo it this way, and they've forged
their own path. Totally wonderful.I love it, you know what I
was just thinking about too because ofthe last message, Helen's message talking about

(02:29:37):
the final phone call between those two. We never really talked about that reincarnation
conversation and the way that Midge wassaying, like how she wanted to be
a man. I just thought thatwas so because I have rewatched the Finelle
again sent you know, to getready for this feedback episode because I'm like,
I want to have it fresh inmy mind, and that really stood
out to me on this second wellI've already watched it god like five times

(02:30:01):
now, but on the big watchthat that really stood out, Um that
yeah, she wanted to be Shejust like has these dreams about being a
man because I imagine of all theprivilege it would give her and like how
much easier midget. And I lovethat Susie doesn't say, oh, yeah,
I would have really wanted to bea man too, because that's the
obvious thing that we think she wouldhave helped the Midge is the one did

(02:30:22):
she say a horse, yeah, and that a wild mustang. Susie wanted
to be a skunk. I lovethat wasn't it. Susie's response is very
abe like, like I don't knowabout reincarnation. No, I just living
in the moment. When I'm dead, I'm probably gonna be dead. Okay,
fine, skunk, I'll pick askunk, and that way I can

(02:30:43):
piss off, like I can justshit on people and like, get your
tomato juice. There you go,speaking of Abe and his tomato juice.
Oh god, tomato juice baths.Oh so cute. That was good?
All right? Next we have maryAnne. Is that what the next one?

(02:31:03):
Marianne? Marianne Corridor, Corridor. That's a cool last name. I
hope I'm saying that role. It'srare that a serious finale will shatter me
the way this one did. Ididn't get it until the end. But
this was a marvelous love story anda friendship between two women who had seen
each other through the lowest of lowsand the highest of highs. I was
satisfied where they left us, wherethey left us with all. I was

(02:31:28):
satisfied where they left us. Whoknows the people in their lives. It
wasn't really about Joel, Abe orRose. It was about two women who
didn't take no for an answer, and who found fame and fortune and forgiveness
along the way, and unlike GilmoreGirls, Amy Shrman, Palladino was able
to end the series her way.Thank you for the podcast. It's been

(02:31:48):
so much fun listening to you all, and I'm all in for a rewatch.
Okay, yeah, who's keeping atally? I know right, it's
everyone like, that's the tally.Thank you, Marianne, love you.
Let's see. Next up is StephanieTara on Facebook. She said, I
really loved how they handled Lenny Bruce. Nothing more needed to be said.

(02:32:13):
Midge shaking her head and walking awaywas so powerful, and then Viki Yamashta
said, I agree, many wantedmore. But the sadness of what we
feel knowing about the nature of hisshortly after death is fully expressed and foreshadowed
by Susie when she's desperately but withfutility, trying to get him to a

(02:32:35):
better place. We all know it'stoo late. According to the time stamp
of that scene, Lenny dies shortlywithin a year. He was loved,
and Susie seemed to genuinely want tohelp him when she tells him Midge isn't
there, she is protecting both ofthem. Having the last scene where we
see of Midge and Lenny as ahopeful and uplifting one was perfect. The

(02:32:58):
foreshadowing and irony of Lenny telling Midgevia the fortune cookie that she'll be the
one paying for China Use food somedayaka the successful one was Lenny giving what
he could to Midge encouragement. Ilike to believe she takes that with her
for the rest of her life, long past tucking the actual fortune in her
bra before going on the Gordon FordShow. I love that. Yeah,

(02:33:24):
that's true, and Stephanie Tara replied, I honestly was nervous about how they
were going to handle it, andthat was perfection. Seriously, I don't
think it could have been done better. I agree. I didn't know it
was what I wanted with Nolannie Brucestoryline, but it was spectacular. Yep,
yeah, totally. And then ohthere was another response to that one.

(02:33:48):
Oh Helen, Helen, our girl, Helen Marie again she said it
to Stephanie's comment, I wonder ifshe ever did speak to him before he
died, it would have only beenabout eight or so after the last performance
he gave. I would have regrettednot seeing him in those circumstances, I'd
at least have wanted to tell himI loved him, even if I didn't
think he even if he didn't thinkhe was worth it. He seemed bummed

(02:34:11):
when Susie, and when Susie saidMidge wasn't there, he shrugged like a
parody of his shrug in the firstepisode and went out the door. I
think, though, that is Ithink, though, that is all the
sadness we needed on the subject.Yes, I would have liked to see
that they had stayed in touch somehowover those few years, but alas it

(02:34:31):
was not to be. At leastwe should have seen him happily watching her
on the Gordon Boord Show. Hebelieved in her so much, it would
have been fitting for us to seehim watching her get her big break.
I mean, even Alfie was there. And did Midge blow that kiss to
him like he spoke to her?Did Midge blow that kiss to him like
he spoke to her when he wason Gordon Ford announcing his show? Oh

(02:34:52):
yeah, that's right, the kiss. I think she blew it to Joel,
Yes she did, But that doesn'treally make a lot of sense to
me. It doesn't make a lotof sense to you. I'm surprised.
I mean it made sense to mebecause they really just wore hammering at home
in that last episode. Like thesetwo love each other, you know,
And I think I think Midge doeslove Joel romantically. She loves Joel.

(02:35:13):
She's aware that they're not good foreach other. It doesn't work out,
they can't be together. And Ihonestly never saw it as her loving Lenny
in terms of a romantic love,Like obviously she was sexually attracted to him
and romantically interested in him, butI didn't see it as her being in
love with him. I think sheloved him, but in a different way,
Like there was a lot of professionaladderration there and like this deep respect

(02:35:39):
between they just happened to be attractedto each other. So it's really funny,
like a little personal thing about me. So there's like this thing with
actors where like actors are always fuckingeach other, right, And it's just
funny because when you're field, it'slike, okay, probably yes, okay,
I remember theater in high school, college, Like it's yeah, yeah,

(02:36:03):
it's it's a lot with actors, especially the theater actors. Um.
So I I know in my ownlife. I have some actor friends that
I've worked with and when we're inthe show together and when we're having chemistry
and they're just getting my like actorbrain just fired up, man, like
it fires you up, like yourbody just do you. I've got feeling

(02:36:26):
something for this person. Yeah,And it's like a love that's that's physical
but not romantic or something. Andit's like a soul matey feeling and a
vibe. But it's not like Idon't want to date this person, but
I have such hot sex with them, So I feel like that's I just
get. I get the connection betweenMidge and Lenny because yeah, it's like
it's like the way that they're attractedtogetheristry. Yeah, and they ship ton

(02:36:50):
of chemistry and they have such arespect for one another as a performer,
as a comedian and as when you'rea good performer and like I think,
I'm I'm I you know, I'mokay um And you see someone who's like
better than you that is so sexyand that is like, God, I
want to be as good as you. And especially when they're looking at you

(02:37:11):
and it's like yo, same though. You know, then that's such a
hot connection because you're bettering each otheron a lot of different levels. You
know, makes like your talent.Your talent is improving just by being in
this person's presence. So gotta lovethat. Gotta love some hot, love
it hot performer sex, Yes,speaking of hot performed though, Francesca,
you're gorgeous, Francesca Mura says, love the finale, Midge was perfect.

(02:37:35):
Hats off to tits up before commandeeringthe Gordon Ford Show. Also preferred the
last scene with Lenny Bruce. Itwas so him, her forever cheerleader.
We all know what happened to Lenny. Didn't need to start off with this
decline. Was it necessary? Shame? Okay? Francesca didn't like it,
Yeah, she preferred, Well, she preferred the the ending where we saw

(02:37:58):
them at the Chinese food restaurants.Sounds like okay, so Helen. Yeah.
So. Helen then responds I wasof two minds with the scene.
I found it easier to watch theoriginal because it was minus Susie. That
conversation broke me. And then Stephanieadded, why did we never learn what
Gordon owes hetty for? Yes,Stephanie, I agree. Still unclear on

(02:38:18):
the supper club and why Joel wentto prison. Where the hell was my
Manchester? Where was Chester? Right? I hadn't even thought of this until
I was working somewhere. Also Cross, Chris Cross. Chris also was desperately
hoping for Sophie Lennon missing a leg, and remorseful to Midge at the end.
I always thought they hated each otherbecause they really were a lot alike.

(02:38:41):
And then E mt Stieves says, business marriage. Hetty is a power
player and has the industry in andprobably got Gordon forward to where he is.
And then Helen responded, oh god, no, Midge was nothing like
Sophie, thank you. And thenand then Ian T. Steves responded,
Mitch first impulsive revolt to walk outon Sophie. She got that one right,

(02:39:03):
Yeah, yes she was. Shewas right to us. She was
like, no, um, no, I did not sign up for this
abuse, you crazy bitch. Someof the most that just like sent me
right back to I can't remember whatSusan. It was when Sophie is on
Broadway and we have to watch her, Sophie, yes, like rehearsing,

(02:39:26):
when Susie's there and they're all lookingat her, like, what the hell
did we get ourselves into casting thiswoman where she just can't like she can't
deal with walking and a student. She was like, I need a set.
I'm an actor. Where's my set? And I was like, oh,
remember, I remember love remember heropening the door though, yes,

(02:39:48):
remember the like what does it feellike to open a door? And they
were like, well, and Susiegoes, well, Sophie, why don't
you there's a door right there. Why don't you go and remind yourself?
And she just like, and theway the door like squeak walks out from
it's the beginning of the plane.I enter, Oh, well, that's
the door there. That is nota door. That is more tape.

(02:40:09):
I cannot open tape. I cannotfeel tape in my hand. And when
I come in, I am openinga door. How do I know what
it feels like to open a door, Sophie, I may, Oh,
when there is a door, whydon't you just remind yourself? Yeah,

(02:40:56):
m opens it walks out. Thatwas so good. Oh my god,
I'm sorry. I know a lotof people didn't like. Sobe Lennon.
I loved every minute funny like anotheranother crossover with um omit b only murders

(02:41:20):
right ye, she and Gilmore Girls. She's a nurse when Richard is in
the hospital. There is so muchcrossover. It's ridiculous. It is ridiculous.
I love that happy Jane Lynch.I love her so Jane Lynch.
Let's see. Our next posts arefrom Charity Dawn. She's got a Calcharity,

(02:41:43):
she said. I used to keepup with the dailies podcast there,
but but there wasn't enough masal content. Luckily I have a three hour podcast
to get into. You are welcome, Charity said. I love how y'all
deconstruct episodes. It feels like theconversations that we'd have in grad school lit
classes as an English major. Ilove you for saying that a rewatch would

(02:42:07):
be great. Also, did younotice Imagine was the one managing Midge's schedule
and films the video tribute, andit's implied she calls to give Susie Midge's
number just as the video is wrapping. Yes, indeed, yes, I
didn't notice until I watched with subtitlesto catch what Hava said or what Hubba
called Midge godless woman, the worstand she says it in Temple. If

(02:42:33):
you don't watch with close captions, you should do a rewatch with captions on.
Nearly every time there's a foreign language, the close caption translates it and
it is almost always hilarious. AsI agree, I watch everything with close
captions, so oh yeah, it'svery helpful. It seems like Imagine replaced

(02:42:54):
Susie as Midge's manager, and she'sclearly learned how to safe. She goes
on to say, did you guysever discuss the meaning of don't? After
the episode eight podcast, there's aninteresting Film Colossus article called mmm the meaning

(02:43:16):
of don't about It? That soundsvery nice and all, but personally I
think it's bullshit. It more orless says that Midge's paper was in response.
I guess her paper with don't onit was in response to all of
her friends papers outlining they're fairly pedestriandreams. But that can't be true because
they didn't know what any of theother girls had written until the reveal ten

(02:43:41):
years later. Yeah, there's noway that that could have been a response
to their other at least not Midge'spersonal response. Maybe it was intentionally a
contrast from it Totallyann Daniel, Yeah, which, yeah, I get,
but it was definitely not Midge respondingpersonally on my first watch through that I'll

(02:44:01):
start that's inflection wrong. Personally,on my first watch through, I forgot
about it, and on the secondI figured it wasn't anything more than a
pretty common writing mistake when you're veryclose to the end and you stick a
filler line in because you just wantto be done, thinking you'll go back
and workshop that line later. ASPdidn't. That's an interesting take. That's

(02:44:26):
funny now though, I don't thinkit was a mistake. But I also
don't think the article is on themark at all, So I've got my
own weird theory. Anyhow. Iwas just, yeah, wait, where's
your Oh yeah, they said, anyhow, I was just thinking about that
after finishing your episode eight podcasts wonderfulas always. Also, I think I

(02:44:48):
might have been your first Audible review, she was, Oh, so,
let us let us read that lovelyAudible review just because you know, shameless
self promotion. Thank you. Everybodyshould leave us audible reviews. Yeah,
yeah, right, leave us areview anywhere, anywhere and everywhere, she

(02:45:09):
said. A witty and insightful podcastfive stars. I was initially daunted by
the three hour podcast length, butI desperately needed someone to talk to you.
After the fabulous fidale of the show, these ladies have sold me on
the long form podcasts. Woo.Yeah. This podcast is broken into chunks,
so even if you struggle with finishinga long form podcast, there are

(02:45:30):
natural breaks between segments like the discussion, news interviews, Internet comments, and
collins. Listening to this podcast feelslike you're listening to talk radio on the
drive to school as a kid, except the radio is only talking about the
things I'm currently geeking out over.Happy to oblige. I love the chemistry
between these women as well. Kara, Jade and Erica are so funny and

(02:45:52):
genuinely lovely people. Oh. Ifeel like if I ran into them on
the street, we would instantly bebest friends. Hell yeah, us we
are best probably? Yes? Iwhat is imo again? In Oh?
In my opinion, that's right?Yeah, I don't even know why that
just happened. In my opinion, just talking about feeling old. I'm really

(02:46:16):
I know, I'm really bad though. I'm always like I'm like, wtf,
what is it? Oh? Right? Like I always my brain my
brain always freezes when I see that. Okay, So in my opinion,
that's the mark of a great podcaster. Thank you. The reason for it
is simply that these women are notonly smart, but real and open with
their own unique life experiences. Theyeach bring completely different experiences to the table.

(02:46:37):
Jade has her experience in the industry, Erica with some sort of unspecified
acting experience which has been specified.HI have more this episode. I get
the impression on the stage, yes, but also as a mother of special
needs kids and as an educator. And Kara with the great legal commentary from
her experience as an attorney. Andwhat else was it smuggling x her tease

(02:47:00):
that someone else says, Irish piracy. That's right, our yes, Kara,
Kara, our resident pirate um,complete with peg leg and parrot on
her shoulder, lizzard on lizard onher shoulder, that's right anyway, she
says. I feel like I knowthem, and not because of naval gazing,
off topic tangents, but because theyare simply genuinely themselves. While discussing

(02:47:26):
the show we all love it's beautifuland having this on in the background,
I can confirm my house has neverbeen cleaner and sometimes I find extra things
to scrub just because the episode isn'tquite over yet. Oh my god,
I love that Charity. I purposelyput this last um. This is to
feedback because I wanted to send usoff with the bang and Charity. I

(02:47:48):
know she's a little late to thepodcast in the show and everything, but
thank you for finding us, andthank you for just yes, all the
love and appreciation. Thank you. That was so sweet, I know,
because she's Charity's sweet. She's sweetsweet. Charity was terrible. No,
that was great, any reason?Any reason? Yes? And yes,

(02:48:09):
the article she mentioned about the meaningof the don't thing that will obviously be
linked in the show notes. Yeah, we did talk a little. We
did talk about the don't thing. But again, so I was, I
was, I was doing yoga earlier, and I was like really thinking about
her this message because I wanted tohave like something clever to be like,
Yeah, I really thought about it, and this is what I think don't

(02:48:30):
means. And all I could comeup with is that Amy Sherman Palladino purposefully
made a plot point that she knewpeople would go crazy over. She knew
people would be on the internet,on the message boards, on the Reddit
and the Facebook being like, whatdo you guys, think this means theory
time you know she did it?There was she didn't know Sherman Palladino answer,

(02:48:54):
mich doesn't know. Yeah, don'tsettle, don't marry a weak man.
She field at that, but don'tstop. I do think that don't
don't don't stop. Yeah, butdon't pick a weak man is the first
thing that that came up in mybrain when I heard don't because that was
in like that would make the secondepisode back, especially right a circle about

(02:49:16):
to marry right, Yeah, thatwould be exactly Yeah. And also I
feel like this this last season,Midge has really been toying with the idea
of should I go back to Joel? Is Joel the one like should I
be with him? Should I bewith anybody? And it's like, just
don't don't, Yeah, don't doanything. Just do you like, don't

(02:49:37):
lose sight of what you want, don't like, don't settle. It helps
that there are so many interpretations toit. I'm sure that ASP does not
hate that there's so much discussion.Yeah, no, what this means totally
on purpose, ambiguous, on inthe best way, on purpose. Yeah,
not mad at it. I canrespond to spec on it. Like

(02:50:01):
fair like I like that totally.Yeah, all right, well on that
glorious note from Charity you guys, that's going to wrap it up for our
listener feedback. God, I've hada fucking blast. Thank you so much
listeners, Like I can't even thereare no words. Our listeners are the
best fucking listeners in all of podcastland in the hot Yeah, I would

(02:50:26):
give them all five star ratings, all of you give yourself all stars,
babies five past five. Yes,we're sorry that it took us so long
to get to this feedback episode, but I think it was good because it
gave everyone a chance to write inand we were still getting emails up until
like yesterday. So I'm really gladthat y'all found us, and please stick
with us. And yeah, Iwanted to plug one more time before we

(02:50:52):
get into our you know, ourpersonal plugs for what we're going to be
doing coming up in the future. Please don't forget about my new podcast.
I'm really excited about it. Iwant it to be successful. It's called
Shall We Compare Thee? And it'sour first episode is on Psycho that's available
now, and that next episode ison Peter Pan and I know you guys
have thoughts on Peter Pan listeners.I know you guys have things to say.

(02:51:13):
Tell me about it, please. What do you think of the twenty
twenty three remake? And what's yourfavorite iteration of Peter Pan? Do you
like the you know sequel? Youknow? Hook? Is that like your
favorite? Are you into the classiclike I mean? And if you're into
like the Kathy Rigby, Um,what's her name? Uh? Mia Pharaoh?
If you're a Mia Pharaoh Peter Panlover? Hey, man, I

(02:51:37):
get you not in my opinion, but I think you need to do a
poll in order. You should totallydo Alice in Wonderland And it's not really
in the chocolate factory on the list. But then that means I have to
subject myself to watching the Tim BurtonCharlie. Yeah. It's just like which
one which which? Well, Iwill tell you with it depends on which,
