Speaker 1 (00:15):
Hello everybody, and welcome to the podcast Full of Kryptonite.
We have got a very special episode we didn't plan for,
but that's because we got a new Superman trailer today.
So when to very very quickly do a reaction to
the trailer. Dig into some of the shots that we
got to see, and there might be some stuff that
you missed. So if that's the case, dig in, and
(00:37):
we're going to go through this thing shot by shot.
And there's a couple of little things that I was
able to catch after looking at it a couple of times.
So share a little bit of that, a little bit
of background on some of these characters you may or
may not be familiar with. So let's buckle up and
according to the tagline of the movie, let's look up
and see what's going on here. So a couple of
(00:58):
things we know about this movie that we've been told
already is that it's going to explore his Superman's journey
to reconcile that Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing and
the whole idea of how do you embody truth, justice
and the American way or a better tomorrow or however
we might be phrasing at this movie. James Gunn has
(01:19):
said that this movie is going to focus on his
human struggles rather than on his powers, although we have
seen I think in this trailer we may see we
may be seeing one of the most super of Superman movies,
Like the biggest use of superpowers that we've ever seen
Superman have in this movie, just based on what I
saw on the trailer kind of looks like it. So
(01:43):
he describes this movie. James Gunn has described this movie
that he's aiming to try to get this to be
a serious but a family friendly narrative of Superman. The
Superman is quote unquote the ultimate good guy, and focusing
on how he embodies kindness in a world that views
kindness as old fashioned and so really kind of tying
(02:04):
into Superman's humanity and the challenges that he faces in
a modern society. Because we've heard several times as they've
made some of these new Superman movies that well, it's
got to be may have to be a little darker
and grittier, because I mean, how can you make a
Superman movie where he's the same you know, big blue
boy scout that he was when Christopher Reeve did it.
(02:25):
It's just the world is not the same, and I
think that may be one of the things that James
gun is getting right, not that I feel that that
was something done wrong in any of the other versions.
I love Man of Steel, I also love Superman Returns.
There's things I love about all the different movies, but
I am hopeful for this one because of some of
the things that James Gunn has said. And if that's
his take on Superman. That's why I'm a much more
(02:47):
of a Superman fan than i am a Batman fan.
Is I like the hopeful nature of Superman, the just
unending optimism. And if you've listened to this show, which
you're here so I'm assuming you have, We've talked about
that with Superman and Lois and that that is what
that show did so well, was how do you portray
Superman as being the embodiment of goodness and kindness and
(03:10):
optimism and inspiration in a world that views all of
that with cynicism. So I am definitely looking forward to
I was looking forward to this movie before, but now
having seen the trailer, I am looking forward to it
even more real quick we'll do a breakdown of each
scene by scene of this movie, but I also want
to do just a real quick character actor kind of
(03:33):
run down here. So starting off Clark Kent Superman, We've
got David corn Sweat is going to be playing Clark
Kent and Superman in this. He was graduate of the
Juilliard School. He gained recognition through some of his Netflix
program that he was on, projects like Pearl and The Politician.
(03:53):
Superman is his first foray into the superhero genre. Superman's
first appearance was an Action Comics number one, nineteen thirty eight.
We know his powers, we know his history. He was
born kal El on the planet Krypton. Looking for David
corn Sweat and seeing what he will do with this part.
He looks the part like there are several times in
this I mean he definitely looks like a Superman. He
looks like a Clark Kent. The Lama top haircut is
(04:17):
bugging me just a little bit, only because I live
with a teenager who had one, and so that's that part.
I could take it or leave it, But I do
see some scenes later on in the movie where it's
not quite as bad. I just I just want to
give him a haircut, but I don't want to break
any scissors. So my understanding is that David corn Sweat,
he did a lot of reading of say, for example,
(04:38):
All Star Superman for this. There's a little bit of
Birthright they said was an inspiration for this. The death
of Superman potentially might be some stuff in there. We've
seen a lot of that from Superman at Lois, but
I think probably All Star Superman and Birthright. It sounds
like had some big, big influences on this movie. Leis
Lane is being played by Rachel Prasnahan, and you might
(05:00):
know her as an Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress
who was Midge Masel in the series The Marvelous Miss Masel.
She has been in projects like I'm Your Woman and
Dead for a Dollar, and she looks like she's going
to be a very dedicated just the scenes we got,
I mean, she looks like a very serious, no nonsense
reporter in those scenes. The character of los Lane again
(05:24):
appeared at Action Comics number one back in nineteen thirty eight,
and her history as being the star reporter for the
Daily Planet, sometimes Superman's love interest eventual spouse, and she
is pretty much always the fearless journalist Lex Luthor Nicholas
Holt is playing Lex Luthor in this one. He was
started as a child actor. I believe he was in
(05:45):
the movie About a Boy, and then he was in
Mad Max Fury Road. He was in the X Men
series as Beast, the x Men First Class Universe. He
was in recent movies like The Menu and Renfield, and
from what I have read, he is going to be
bringing kind of a fresh look at Lex Luthor in
this one that I think will bring in a lot
(06:05):
of the different versions and adaptations we've gotten of this
one in the past. He also mentioned some stories that
he had been reading to get inspired for this Lex
Luthor character, and a couple of those were All Star Superman.
Another one that I thought was kind of interesting and
I have not I need to go back and read it.
I think I've read this a while ago, but I
(06:26):
don't remember much of it, so I want to go
back and definitely reread it before this movie comes out
was Lex Luthor Man of Steel. So I'll be very
very curious because my recollection of that is that it
really takes and tries to depict Lex Luthor as the
hero and Superman as the villain. So I don't actually
think I have a copy of that, so I'm going
to see if I can track down a copy and
(06:46):
reread that one. So it should be an interesting take.
The character of Lex Luthor first showed up in Action
Comics twenty three and nineteen forty. Typically, he is genius
level intellect, wealthy master of technology. Sometimes uses battlesuit to
enhance his strength to fight Superman physically, but a lot
of times it's his ruthlessness as a businessman and a
(07:08):
scientist that he uses to his advantage. Guy Gardner, Green Lantern.
We've got to se Nathan Fillion in this. He's been
in Firefly Castle. The Rookie is a charming and funny guy,
and I looking forward to seeing what he does with
the Guy Gardner character. Guy Gardner was never really one
of my favorite Green Lanterns. I always kind of found
(07:29):
him annoying, but there are storylines where, you know, I
think his personality could bring some of the humor to it.
So he's playing Guy Gardner in this, and he, I believe,
is expected to reprise that role on the HBO series Lanterns,
which has also been a star Aaron Pearce and Kyle
Chandler as lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan, so that
(07:52):
should be a lot of fun. The Guy Gardner character
first appeared in Green Lantern number fifty nine in nineteen
sixty eight. As with all the other lanterns, he where's
a Green Lantern power ring that can create hard light
constructs and enables him to fly. There was a stretch
time where he was Guy Gardner Warrior, and that was
a whole different set of powers and all kinds of
crazy stuff. He's usually pretty brash and hot headed, but
(08:15):
in this case he will It seems like he will
also be one of the more senior of the heroes
in this movie, so I'll be curious to see how
they use that. Kendra Saunders or Hawkgirl, is played by
Isabella Mercid. She is She's been in several things lately.
Believes she was in Adra in the Lost City of Gold.
She was also an alien Romulus. We maybe won't mention
(08:37):
that she was also in Madame Webb. Let's skip over
that one real quick. But she is gonna be playing
Hawkgirl in the Superman movie. Different versions of the Hawkgirl
character came out in nineteen forty nineteen forty one, nineteen
sixty one. This version, the Kendra Saunders version, came out
in JSA Secret Files number one from nineteen ninety nine.
Her powers are flight with the NF metal wings that
(08:59):
she has enhanced strength, skilled in hand to hand combat.
She is the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian warrior, cursed
to live and die alongside her soulmate Hawkman through the Ages.
Michael Holt Mister Terrific. He is played by I think
it's Eddie Gathigi. Eddie Gathie is originally from Kenya and
he has been a lot of different things lately. He
(09:20):
was in Twilight and X Men First Class. He was
also on for All Mankind. It was great in that
so when we watched through that whole show and really
loved it, so he will be awesome as mister Terrific.
Mister Terrific first showed up Inspector number fifty four, nineteen
ninety seven. He is basically terrific. He is an Olympic
level athlete. He is a genius level intellect. He uses
(09:40):
these things called tea spheres, which are his advanced technology
capable of creating holograms, hacking, energy manipulation. We'll even see
in the trailer there's a point at which he creates
a force field to protect somebody with those tea spheres.
Rex Mason Metamorpho. We see him for a couple of
seconds here in the video. He's played by Anthony Kerra.
Anthony Kerrigan was the hitman NoHo Hank in HBO's Barry.
(10:05):
He also played Mister Zazz, the Killer in Gotham and
so he's already had a little bit of an experience
with some DC properties. He was first introduced. The character
of Metamorpho was first introduced in The Brave and the
Bold Number fifty seven in nineteen sixty five. His powers
of the ability to transform his body into any element
(10:25):
or compound found in the human body, and that basically
grants him immense versatility in combat. He can change in
any way he needs to. He was a former adventurer.
He was transformed into Metamorpho by the orb of Raw,
which gained would cause him to gain powers but lose
his normal human appearance. He is also usually a member
(10:47):
of the team the Outsiders in DC comics, So if
you've ever read any of The Batman and the Outsiders
or just the Outsiders, he's usually a team member of that,
and I believe currently maybe a team member of the Outsiders.
Jonathan Kent is played by Pruett Taylor Vince. He is.
He's been in several things, Identity, Constantine, the Black Phone.
(11:07):
He has most recently been in I think it was
one called Birdbox, Barcelona, Barcelona. Sorry, And so he is
going to be playing Jonathan Kent, Superman's adoptive father. The
character of Jonathan Kent first showed up in super Boy
number twelve, nineteen fifty one. Has no powers, but is
basically the source of Superman's moral compass and the kind
(11:28):
of grounding influences in his life, along with his mother,
whose name I will not mention because I don't want
to start anything between him and Bruce Crypto. First appearance
of Crypto was in Adventure Comics two ten, nineteen fifty five.
He's got powers and abilities similar to Superman, strength, flight, heat, vision,
enhanced senses. He was originally kal El's pat a pet
(11:48):
on Krypton, and he was sent to Earth in a
prototype rocket before it blew up, arriving then as a
fully grown superpowered dog, and he has been a loyal
companion to Superman in all the different series that he
shown up and works with the Legion of Superpets in
some of those stories as well Ultraman, so supposedly we're
also getting a version of Ultraman in this as one
(12:09):
of the villains Justice League of America number twenty nine
from nineteen sixty four was his first Similar to Superman,
He's got super strength, flight, heat, vision in vulnerability, gains
his powers from Kryptonite instead of the sun. He is
basically the evil counterpart to Superman from Earth three. He's
a member of the Crime Syndicate, a group that kind
of mirrors the Justice League, but an evil version of
(12:30):
it on his Earth. He's a ruthless conqueror who uses
fear and intimidation to rule, the exact opposite of Superman
now in this version. One of the rumors I have
heard is that potentially, whether it's Stag Industries, which we
see in the trailer, or Lex Luthor Core, which we
also see in the trailer and Lex Luthor, some rumors
flying around are that this Ultraman is possibly a clone
(12:53):
of Superman, so leading to some type of a Bizarro
type character or origin story. So not sure. I've read
a couple of things that lead to that, but not
no guarantee there.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
M M SI gave me a home.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Let's do a quick scene by scene breakdown of this trailer.
So I took some time and watched through the trailer
several times and then pulled out each different scene and
just wrote down some of what's happening during each one.
There might be some little things here or there, maybe
that I caught that you didn't get a chance to see.
And I had an opportunity to actually saved a copy
of the trailer, tried to blow up certain parts see
(15:43):
if I could read what we're on TV screens and
things like that. So let's do a quick rundown scene
by scene of this one. So we start in the Arctic.
Superman comes crashing down from the sky and we see
him lying beaten and wheezing on the ground. Then a
scene in Metropolis, Clark Kent with his Lama top haircut,
is running through the crowded streets trying to get to
the Daily Planet. Then back in the Arctic, we see
Soups lying on the ground, bruised and spitting up blood.
(16:05):
He is not in good shape. The one good thing
I will say about this though, that we get from
these scenes is we get to see close up the
Superman's suit. And I know some people were worried about
that going into it because it looked from set photos
it looked a little baggy, didn't look quite right. It
wasn't as form fitting as what we've seen from more
recent Superman like Tyler Hecklin and Henry Cavill and then
(16:28):
all those guys. But it looked great. I thought it
looked great. I thought the colors looked great. One of
my criticisms of the last season of Superman and Lois
was that the suit was too dark. This is perfect. This,
to me is the perfect Superman colors. It's as it
should be, nice, bright yellows and reds and blues. So
I am a fan. Even though he's lying on the
ground spitting up blood, the suit looks nice. And if
(16:49):
you look good, you look marvelous. And if you look good,
you feel good. And you know what I mean. We've
had a title card that says from James Gun and
we start up with some top Gun inspired rock electric
guitar remix of the John Williams Superman theme. Next scene,
we get Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the Daily
Planet newsroom. I spotted you can't really tell what's going
(17:09):
on on the TVs behind them. One of them said
something like local towns flooded after severe weather. So I
don't know if something is causing severe weather around the
world or if that just happens to be what's on
the TV at the time. We do also see very
very quickly in the background. We see Jimmy Olsen, who's
played by Skylar Gizando. I'm not sure if I'm saying
that right, Steve Lombard who's being played by Beck Bennett,
(17:30):
who was an SNL alum, and Kat Grant, who is
being played by Mikaela Hoover. We get another title card
that says director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy,
And as a couple of people pointed out, that's definitely
a choice for a DC movie to be telling you
come see this one because it was made by our rival,
made by the same guy that kind of kicked our
butt in the Arrival Company over there. But that's fine.
(17:53):
Scene five, we're at a Kansas farmhouse in young Clark
Kent and older Jonathan Kent are talking there. This may
be a flashback, looks a little younger in some of
these scenes, and he's not wearing the glasses yet, so
it's possible it's a flashback. But Jonathan Clears seems to
be upset about something. We don't know exactly what, but
they are talking and embracing in this looks like he's
(18:14):
trying to comfort his father. We get another title card
this summer. We're back in the Arctic. Soups is on
the ground and he lets out a long whistle and
something starts coming fast across the frozen ground, kicking up
a cloud of snow behind it. Another title card, it begins,
We're back in the Arctic and Crypto. A CGI version
of Crypto arrives, and the CGI actual looks pretty good.
(18:37):
I thought it looked pretty good. I've seen worse CGI,
so I thought they actually did a pretty good job
with this, and I would imagine that. I mean, this
is just a trailer, so I'm sure they even have
time to make more changes before July eleventh, So it's
looking pretty good. But we can tell it's Crypto and
he's got powers in a cape. So some Cryptos in
the past have just been normal dogs, and it's fun
(18:59):
to see this one as the white, kind of scruffy
dog with the little red cape and the collar and
the superpowers and everything. So Soups tells him Crypto home,
take me home, and he hands Crypto a bit of
his cape, and the dog grabs that part of the
cape in his mouth and starts to drag him away,
probably back to the fortress. Fun thing about this, as
(19:20):
James Gunn said, while he was writing this movie, he
was inspired by his dog, and I believe his dog's
name was Ozu, and so he said while he was
writing this, he said, quote, I remember thinking, gosh, how
difficult would it be if Ozu had superpowers? And thus
Crypto came into the script and changed the shape of
the story. As Ozu was changing my life, what better
time to debut the not so good good boy Crypto.
(19:41):
So Crypto might be a little sassy. We'll have to
find out what's going on here, but it'll be interesting
to see how that plays into the rest of the story.
I've always enjoyed, you know, when Superman or Superboy and
Crypto are hanging out together and going on adventures together.
We're back in Metropolis at this point. The kind of
we switch from the hard rock to the orchestral theme
kicking in slow motion shot of Superman protecting a child
(20:04):
while heavy metal canisters are flying through the air. Looks
like there's a kaiju foot in the background, so something
maybe stomped down kick these things up, and Superman goes
and blocks this little girl's body from getting crushed by
these canisters. We see Lex Luthor looking out his window
as Superman flies past luthor Core Tower. It's not called
lex core yets, but it's luthor Core Tower. We also see.
(20:27):
I'm trying to remember, is this the scene where we
get another close up of the luthor Core Tower? Might
be if it is. So, we see the luthor Core
Tower and there's a bit of a bridge across what
looks like maybe two towers, and that's where the luthor
Core name is. Now. I missed this the first few times,
but I did spot on one of the other viewings
there seems to be somebody walking across the roof of
(20:50):
this bridge. I did then go look it up and
somebody said it looked like I tried to zoom in
to see but I couldn't quite see. Somebody else online
said that this person a little silvery. If this person
looked a little silvery. Then it's possible that this is
the character known as the Engineer, and we have been
told that the Engineer is going to be another villain
(21:12):
that is going to be showing up in this movie.
The Engineer is a character from the Wildstorm universe, which
is kind of an offshoot. It was another company that
was purchased by DC Comics and brought in. Angelica Spica
or Speaker is her name, and she first appeared in
Stormwatch number forty eight from nineteen ninety seven. She has
kind of a silvery chrome look to her, and so
(21:34):
it's a possibility maybe she's trying to break in to
Luther Corp. Who knows, so that is, that's always a
possibility for who that might be. Then we have the
next scene. We don't know quite where this is. There
in some kind of a dark room, looks maybe a
little techy in the background, but Lex is holding a
revolver of some kind, and a child's voice says Superman,
and this starts up. Then we have many voices that
(21:57):
start chanting Superman. And this chanting of the name is
going to continue a little bit quietly in the background,
sometimes a little louder, but a little quietly in the background.
For the rest of the trailer, we have another scene
maybe in the same place. It's still kind of dark.
It looks a little techy, but Superman looks to be
encased in a transparent cell of some kind, think of
the transparent plastic cell in the at the end of
(22:18):
the first X Men movie. But there's a bunch of
them together in some kind of a grid. So he's
got other cells around him with people in those other cells.
He punches his way out. He's kind of kneeling down
and punches his way out in this scene. The next scene,
we've got a young child's in a almost desert like environment.
There is looks like a battle or a civil war
of some kind going on. The young child hoists up
(22:41):
a makeshift Superman flag and he clings to the flag
and quietly repeats Superman. And this sounds like the same
voice that we heard earlier when we saw Lex holding
the Revolver as the voice in the background saying Superman.
My guess is because of something we see here in
just a little bit in the trailer, that this is
the Nation of Beret. Now we're going to see on
(23:02):
a TV screen or a computer monitor a news story
from GBS News about the nation of Bravia, and I'll
mention that a little bit later. But here's a nice
little callback to a story from nineteen thirty nine. In
Superman Number two, published in nineteen thirty nine, the fictional
European country of Bravia is embroiled in a devastating civil war.
A munition's magnate named Loubain seeks to exploit the conflict
(23:26):
for profit by acquiring a deadly gas formula from the
American chemist Professor Runyan. After Runyan's murder, Superman pursues the
criminals to Berravia, where he dismantles their operations and compels
the warring factions to negotiate peace. So by mentioning Bravia,
we're doing a long callback to nineteen thirty nine for
that one. Next scene, we're back in Metropolis. Superman the
(23:48):
front of his suit is charred and walks through an
angry crowd. Somebody throws a can at the back of
his head, and he enters a building while police are
trying to contain the crowd. If this is anything like
the last time somebody threw a beer can or something
at the back of his head. Hopefully that guy is
not a truck driver, because he's going to find his
truck in the parking lot with a bunch of really
huge tree trunks and logs stuck all the way through it.
(24:10):
Next scene, we're in Stag Industries. Soups is looking kind
of dejected. He looks like he might be looking down
at some kind of a display, but he's standing in
an empty lobby of the building. Hawk Girl, Guy Gardner arrived.
Guy seems to use his green lantern ring to blast
something by the window. Maybe somebody was banging on it.
He was trying to get them to go away. But
Stag Industries is something that showed up in Metamorpho number
(24:32):
one from nineteen sixty five, owned by Simon Stagg, another
wealthy billionaire at little morally ambiguous, a little bit like
Alex Luthor. A little bit about Stag is it's considered
within DC comics. It's a powerful multinational corporation specializing in
advanced technology, often a little shady advanced technology. The Simon Stagg,
(24:53):
the founder, is best known as the antagonist in Metamorpho's
story Metamor Rex Mason, who became Metamorpho. I Believe in
Love with Stag's daughter Sapphire, and he wasn't a big
fan of that, so he sent him on this adventure
to go get the orb of Raw and eventually that's
what transformed him into Metamorpho and gave him his powers.
(25:13):
The next scene, not sure where we are, probably Metropolis,
but we see Hawkgirl flying through this s guy with
her mace in hand. We're also in Metropolis for the
next one, there's a fire breathing Kaiju attacking a building
with Superman in the fire trying to hold it off.
In the next little split second of a scene. The
next one, Superman and Lois are sitting in someone's apartment,
could be Clark's, could be Lois's. We see a giant pink,
(25:33):
purple greenish orb eye thing in the background blasting something
in the city that we see out the window in
the background. So it looks like this was one of
the still photos that they released not that long ago
that showed what looks like Superman putting on his uniform,
maybe getting ready to go out with this doing something
to the city in the background. And I don't know quite
(25:55):
what this is yet. See next scene is we've got
Clark and Lois makeout session in the kitchen of an apartment,
whether it's that apartment or a different one. The next
scene seems to be at the Fortress of Solitude. Superman
holds the hand of maybe Kelex or Keelex, however you
say the name, who looks like he's been torn in
a half bishop style from the end of Aliens. If
(26:16):
this story is something about balancing his Kryptonian heritage with
his human nature, it could be interesting if Keelex or
Kelex gets destroyed, because that might be the last even
though it's an Ai, maybe the last bit of Krytonian
knowledge or connection that he has left. And maybe if
something happens to the fortress, then maybe that's a big
(26:38):
part of the story as well. The next scene, we
see the icy spikes that make up the fortress seem
to be erupting from the ground. I don't know if
that's a good thing or bad thing. We don't know.
Then we get a close up on metamorphose face with
his very, very striking, almost glowing blue eyes. Next scene
we see a building falling down somewhere in the city.
Next scene we get a close up of Lex with
cuts and bruises on his face. Then we get a cut.
(27:01):
We get a scene with the TV screen or monitor
with the GBS news report Bravian quote Baravian troops amassing
at border with a little boy on the screen. Might
be the same little boy we saw earlier. One nice
touch was the TV or monitor that this is on.
The brand on the front of it is Luther Tech.
In some of the stories, Luther Tech is everywhere in Metropolis,
and there was even a story in the late nineties
(27:24):
where Luther took advantage of that. And because all of
his tech was everywhere, he is able to That's where
he was able to get some of his information from.
He was able to kind of network things and he
had just his tendrils were everywhere in Metropolis. And because
of that, there were things he could do that are
not so nice nefarious. If he will, he's the in
(27:45):
famous Lex Luthor. He's more than famous. The next scene,
we have soups trying to push up either a falling
wall or building. Next scene, we're back in the Arctic
and we see Crypto dragging Superman through the snow. The
next scene, someone is smashing through a wall looks like
maybe Ultraman. We are at a baseball stadium, and we
see Soups and someone probably Ultraman fighting in the Metropolis
(28:06):
Meteors Stadium, the name of their baseball team. We have
a scene in a military encampment of some kind. Mister
Terrific seems to be protecting somebody with a force field.
It looks I couldn't quite tell, looks like it might
be Lois, but I'm not sure. There are soldiers with
arm mounted guns or blasters that are firing on them.
We have another scene, not sure where this is taking place,
but Superman and Lois are hovering inside of a building
(28:28):
with a glass ceiling, kind of a glass domed ceiling,
doing one of their mid air makeout sessions. The next scene,
Superman is bursting through some flames and rockets up into
the sky. And then one of the last scenes we
get is in the apartment. Lois and Superman are holding hands.
She hugs him and we see the alien orb thing
is still in the background, so we get the sense
maybe he is off to go stop whatever this is.
(28:51):
Then we get a series of title cards, the first
one July eleventh, the next one DC Studios with the
old school nineties DC low go on it with the
the kind of bullet stars on it, and then the
final title card is only in theaters. Filmed for Imax,
I am I will say less cautiously. I was cautiously
(29:12):
optimistic about those. Well this one, I'm going to be
less cautious and say, I think it looks great. I
think it's going to be a lot of fun. There
has not been a Superman movie yet that I have
not enjoyed. I am curious to see the different the
ways they're going to take these characters, and knowing that
this is going to be what's going to kick off
the rest of the new DCU universe, So really really
(29:33):
looking forward to it. I haven't had a chance yet
to watch Creature Commandos. I know that that's not crazy connected,
but I know it's kind of like a soft start
to the new DCU. But really looking forward to this.
He looks like a great Superman. It looks like we're
going to get a lot of super Superman. You know,
we got we got a lot of fighting, we got
a lot of you know, some of that stuff in
(29:53):
Man of Steel, which was in terms of the action,
I think a step up from some of the other movies.
But I'm really curious to see that because it's going
to be a world in which he's not the only hero.
There's other heroes involved, so really curious to see the
direction they choose to go with it. And the thing
I'm most interested in is if James Gunn describes him
(30:14):
as the ultimate good guy and how do you embody
kindness in a world that views that as being old fashioned.
That is one of the things I've always enjoyed about
this character, so I am definitely looking forward to that.
The suit. I'm enjoying the suit. I think it looks
great in the movie Crypto. I'm dubbing Crypto the Goodest
Boy of Steel, so excited to see him and see
(30:35):
what he does in the movie. And if I thought
my dog would be able to handle going to the
movie theater, i'd take him. But there's no way he'd
be able to handle that, So he's going to have
to wait for streaming, which is fine because he doesn't
care what's on the TV anyway. But yeah, I think
it looks like a lot of fun. I We're only
going to get more interesting, we get more stories and
get more explanations for things. As we're nearing the release
(30:57):
of this one, knowing that it's going to be on Imax.
I'm definitely to see it on Imax. I'll probably see
it a couple of times in the theater. And what
I really also enjoyed about this trailer is I have
no idea what the story is. Sometimes we see a
trailer it gives the entire story away, and then you
go into a movie with no surprises at all. And
I'm really really glad that we got to see a
(31:18):
lot of action, We got to see a lot of
really great stuff from this. But I have no clue
what's going to happen in this movie, and that makes
me very happy. I don't know. In fact, I'm going
to take a guess and say they're not going to
use that music, the kind of rockified top gun version
of the John Williams Superman theme. My thought is that's
just the trailer music. I would imagine they're going to
(31:40):
go with something that is unique for this movie. But
I thought that was a really nice touch. That was
awesome trailer music for this one. I thought it kind
of handled everything perfectly. So I'm sure there's some stuff
that I missed. I tried to catch a couple of
little hidden things here and there, It's probably going to
take me a few more viewings before I may catch
(32:00):
some other things that are in there. But I'm happy
with this. I'm happy with the distinction, how he looks
as different as Clark Kent versus Superman. I'm happy with
the look of the other heroes in this. You know,
I think Rachel Brosnahan looks like a Lois Lane. We
don't have much information, so until we get more, until
we actually see the movie, pretty much have to kind
(32:21):
of hold back some judgments until then. But we will
come back, I know. On this podcast coming up in February,
I'm gonna start going through Smallville as we get closer
to the release date in July, I will do another
preview episode before the movie comes out to kind of
wrap up any of the other information we've gotten between
now and July eleventh, and then obviously I'll come back
(32:42):
and do a review of it after I've been able
to see it on July eleventh. So that is it.
