Speaker 1 (00:00):
I've got you, You've got me, Who's got you?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Hello, come to me, sun Up Challo Neil before.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
So hello everybody, and welcome to another episode of the
Podcast Full of Kryptonite. This Podcast Full of Kryptonite is
only three more episodes full until we're done with Superman

(00:46):
and Lois. So I'd like to say it's gone by
so fast, but that's the title the Serious Finale, so
I'm not gonna say that right now, but yes it is.
We are getting very very close to the end this
episode of season four, episode eight, Sharp Dressed Man, and
we've only got two more episodes because it's a ten

(01:06):
episode season, so we are just marching right on towards
the end of this one and another great episode here another,
you know, some other great stuff that we've got. We
get a bit more Superman action than we've had in
maybe the last couple of episodes or so, so that
was kind of nice, but also, you know, very character heavy,
some great moments, some great name drops. So we've got

(01:27):
a lot of stuff here. So let's go ahead and
dive on in to this one again, Season four, episode eight,
Sharp dress Man. All right, so we ended the last
episode where Amanda told Lex that he really needed a
killer suit, and we see him getting fitted for a
suit here, and also as he turns around, the beard

(01:47):
is gone, so he does look obviously he looks a
little bit more like our traditional Lex luthor here. It
was a little disconcerting to see him without the beard.
I'm not sure if I'd ever seen this actor without
the beer before, and being so used to seeing him
that way for most of this season, it was a
little jarring. But at the same time, he makes I

(02:07):
think he makes a great Lex Luthor. So Amanda is
setting him up with an interview to kind of change
public perception. Bash, the guy who's been running Lex Corps,
you know, keeps arguing that he's flex is like sabotaging
with all the stuff that he's doing. He's kind of
sabotaging their business. And this is to help change public

(02:28):
perception that the public believes he is a criminal. And
they're going to change all that because they're going to
bait Lois into having a debate with him on live TV.
Amanda says that after today, the whole world is going
to be on your side, and we're all left to
wonder what exactly is caused that to happen. We're back
on the farm and the DoD has set up a

(02:49):
security detail. Lois is going for some additional scams to
see if she still has cancer, So carrying that over
from last season and just kind of we're starting to
see that the the reveal of Clark as Superman is
affecting their lives already, like if they have to have
this security detail. We'll see later in the episode that
the boys kind of get rushed by a crowd of

(03:11):
people who are looking for them. We have a weird
comment about Jamie Kennedy texting the boys and calling them
the super Twins. We're gonna get a couple of other mentions.
Jamie Kennedy texting people. I was gonna look up and
see maybe is that a reference to something I didn't
actually get a chance to So if anybody knows, I
would love to know. But Jamie Kennedy got name dropped
three times in this episode, so he is he is

(03:34):
the beatle juice of this episode. John Henry and Natalie
are at the Ironworks, not my favorite barbecue restaurant in Austin, Texas,
but their workshop. Natalie is a little upset that she's
gonna be missing a movie to keep working on some
specs for DoD weapons. We find out here that she
seemed to be ready to go before, but then they
canceled her show, and now she's not going to be

(03:55):
a part of this Young Justice thing that they were
going to be doing where the Dodac came Adam or
whatever they were going to call it. But realistically, what
she actually says is she kind of made this promise
when her grandpa was still alive, and now that General
Gramps is dead and gone, she is saying she just
kind of was doing it as a promise to him,

(04:15):
and she wasn't really as excited about this whole thing
as she made it seem like she was, so she's
kind of reluctant about helping her dad lead this squad.
K John Henry just tells you, you know what, go ahead,
go watch the movie with the fraternals. It's okay, I
got this. Your kid still be a kid. They get
a call that a car accident has taken place, and
John Henry and Natalie are on their way because they're

(04:37):
covering for Clark while he and Lois are in Metropolis
getting her scans, and the results of the scans we
will find out later. At first, for a second, this
actor who is the man who's in the car accident,
seemed to me like it. It looked a little bit
like the Jimmy Olsen we got from the last episode.
But it is revealed later once you do see him
he does you know, it does definitely look different. He

(04:59):
is the character Milton that we have only heard referenced
and not seen in the episodes up to this point,
so we do find that out later. We don't know that.
At this point, the boys are at the convenience store.
De Nice is angry at the boys for some reason.
It's kind of getting a little bit resentful of the
fact that they are the super Twins and that they're

(05:19):
getting all this attention, and she's kind of getting upset
with them for where they parked their truck. What do
you think you are a bunch of celebrities, You can't
park there. They see a crowd at the movie theater,
and the crowd ends up rushing them when they see them,
so the boys high tail it out of there. Clark
and Lewis are at the hospital and that she finds out.
At first they talk about her needing to schedule a surgery,

(05:41):
and she is initially upset until they tell her, well,
but that means you're done with the treats, Mike, You're done.
That's it. Lois is excited now. She immediately goes to
wanting to order from Bazumbas. If you recall Bazumbas from
last season. Is this universe's Hooters to celebrate, and they're
going to celebrate amongst teenagers whose parents aren't home right now.

(06:02):
As they're walking out, they see Lexi Boy on the
TV on a TV show called Godfrey. We had heard
that Tom Kavanaugh he had barred Thong Reverse Flash doctor
Harrison Wells all of the millions of different alterate Wells
that they had show up in the Flash TV show
played by Tom Kavanaugh, that he is the character of

(06:24):
Godfrey in this show. Lex on the TV talks about
how Lois lied about his crimes, and lex challenges Lois
to a debate tonight at seven only on Godfrey. It's
now time for our segment where we dive into the
name drops that happen constantly on this show. I'm calling
this segment. Who is Godfrey? Glorious Godfrey is a supervillain

(06:48):
in the DC comic universe, introduced by Jack Kirby in
The Forever People number three in June nineteen seventy one
as one of the new gods from Apocalypse. He serves
dark Side, and he is known for his exceptional speaking
skills and persuasive abilities. Godfrey's primary role in the pantheon
of dark Side's minions is to spread propaganda and manipulate

(07:12):
public opinion to further whatever it is Darkseide wants to
do at that point in time. We now take you
to our segment within a segment. Who is dark Side? Okay,
if you don't know who dark Side is, he is
one of the most powerful villains in DC comics. If
you've seen any of the cartoons in recent years, if

(07:32):
you've bought any action figures in recent years, if you
have watched the Justice League movie that, please watch the
Zack Snyders Justice League movie that. If you've seen any
of those, you know who dark Side is. If you
watched the final season of Smallville Mack in the Day
Mack in twenty eleven, you know a little bit of
who dark Side is. So dark Side is kind of
liked I guess you could say he's kind of like

(07:54):
the Thanos of the DC Universe. He's one of the
most powerful villains, created again by Jack Kirby. He is
the tyrannical ruler of the planet Apocalypse and one of
the New Gods, obsessed with finding the anti life equation
that would enslave all syndient beings across the universe. He
is a master strategist, physically huge and formidable, wields the

(08:15):
destructive Omega beams. The New Gods are a race of
godlike beings from two opposing planets, the idyllic New Genesis
and the dystopian Apocalypse. And they were created again by
Jack Kirby, and they represented the kind of the idea
of different cosmic forces of concepts New Genesis led by
a new God named High Father and Apocalypse ruled by

(08:35):
Dark Side. They are a huge part once you get
off of Earth. They are often a huge part of
DC Comics's kind of cosmic mythology going on in the
rest of that comic book, Unilus a lot of times
dealing with themes of power, morality, struggle between good and evil.
Back to our previous segment, who is Godfrey In thennineteen

(09:00):
eighty six Legends mini series, Godfrey adopts the alias G.
Gordon Godfrey, a charismatic media personality who incites public distrust
against superheroes, including Superman himself. His campaign leads to widespread
skepticism and challenges the hero's roles in society. The storyline
explores some of the themes of media influence public perception,

(09:21):
highlighting how a simple influential figure can sway public opinion
against even the most revered heroes like Superman. Godfrey's abilities
extend beyond his rhetorical prowess. He possesses limited mind control powers,
enabling him to command followers known as the Justifiers. These
people don helmets that amplify his control, turning them into

(09:42):
zelots for Darkseide, which is I Believe, a heavy metal
band that I used to listen to in high school.
As well, this aspect of the character underscores the dangers
of his charismatic and the dangers of charis leaders in general,
who exploit their influence to manipulate other people. In the
Final Crisis event, Godfrey's character further developed. He possesses the
body of a human reverend named Godfrey Good, so he

(10:04):
becomes Reverend Godfrey Good, continuing his efforts to undermine Earth's heroes.
This story arc dives into the complexity is a faith trust,
how societies can be susceptible to manipulation by persuasive figures.
Glorious Godfrey's character serves as a tool in that narrative
to explore the impact of propagama, the power of the media,

(10:25):
the vulnerability of public opinions to being manipulated. His interactions
with Superman and the other heroes in that story kind
of provide a lens that you can look through to
examine the challenges that arise when trust in heroes is
erodised by influential people. Gordon Godfrey was played by Michael

(10:46):
Dangerfield in the CW series Smallville. Back in the final
season of that show as well Great We're back, Clough
and Lewis at the farm, worried about how this debate
that Lex has challenged her to might affect the testimony
of Otis, who is still in prison. C K says
he'll review Lois's statement and she makes a funny comment

(11:07):
what for spelling, and He's like, no for profanity. The
Fraternals and Madly are looking for movie showtimes since they
missed the other one, and John gets a text that
Canvas has broken up with him. Now, say what you
will about the younger generations, and this is not something
that is just a hallmark of the younger generations. But

(11:27):
I'm gonna put out a little podcast full of chrytinite
public service message here. And this may be be sounding
like an old guy, but breaking up over text that
seems uncool, Like, if you gotta do it, you'd respectfully
do it in person, unless there's some kind of extenuating
circumstances that make it so that you can't do it

(11:49):
everything very least, then maybe have a phone call. But again,
unless there is some extenuating circumstance young people, because there's
probably a ton of the un people listening to the show.
I'm sure by the fact that I've called them young
people just goes to show that's not our target demographic.
I guess, don't do it over text, in person a

(12:10):
phone call at the very least, But yeah, no, Lex
and a man that are talking about the debate their
plan for Lex's future, et cetera, and Amanda kind of
breaks some of this off and says she needs to
go check in with Milton. So obviously nothing is up
to something. Smallville is crawling with proper razzi. John Henry

(12:30):
comes in to tell them that Otis was from hanged
in his cell. Earlier that day, someone throws a brick
through the window of the Gazettes with the word liar
written on it, and at that point, Lois is like, look,
I want to do this debate because Lex will keep
sending people. It was nobody in Smallville that threw that brick,
so Lex is going to keep sending people to harass them,

(12:51):
and She's gonna do this debate because she feels like
this is something where we can get him once at
for all. John Harry, and Clark have a little talk here.
John Henry finds out that CK's hearing is not working
as well as well as some of his other powers,
and then he offers to run some tests as well
to help with Clark's hearing and see if he can
he can help him in someone like everybody's getting a
scan sis episode, You get a scan, you get a scan.

(13:13):
Everybody gets a scan. Amanda gives Milton a call. We
don't see much from that scene, but she gives him
a call just to kind of see if things are
on track. We don't know what this is yet. John
calls Candas and he's pretty down and Jordan Natalie try
to talk with him. Candas they go to Kandas's house
and basically says, well, no, they don't go to her house. Yeah.

(13:33):
Candace basically said that people have been coming after her
online since they know that she's his girlfriend, and it
has been very unpleasant. Natalie says, well, we should go
see her in person, and you should fight for this
relationship if you love hers, and if you love her,
go get her. Basically patri Mentropolis at lexis pet hoouse,
he's having some kind of panic attack. It seems he

(13:55):
you know, Lex loves to be able to control things,
so he kind of stops his log. There's too many
we got to call this off. There's too many variables,
too many things are out of my control. And Amanda
there forcefully tells him no, she's very pushy for a hench.
And they find out Lois is on her way to
the debate. So here's something I'm gonna throw this in

(14:15):
here as a little bit of speculation. So Tom Kavanaugh
has come in this episode. We've name dropped Milton. Fine,
so there's your brainiac. We're gonna mention Brainiac later this
episode as well. We've name dropped him. We've name dropped
Glorious Godfrey from the comics, who is related to dark
Side and dark Side had some involvement with before trying

(14:38):
to come to Earth to take things over. He a
lot of times was involved indirectly. He was providing weapons
to Intergang who remember Entergang from last season, So there
was always kind of some involvement, but he was always
very subtle about it in the beginning and kind of
working to you know, lay to till the soil. I
guess if you want to do it in fun terms,
since we're talking about small Volkansas, to kind of till

(15:00):
the soil and get things ready for him to come
in force. And I'm wondering now if the character of
Amanda is also see Here's what I'm having a little
bit of trouble with this is it seems too late
like we're dealing with Lex we know from the promo
and I'm jumping ahead a little bit. We know from

(15:20):
the promo for the next episode, Lex is getting his
power suit, like he's adapting John Henry's powersuit to be his.
So we're doing that and that's episode nine of ten.
I feel like Gordon Godfrey name dropping him here, name
dropping Milton Fine. I feel like this is all stuff

(15:41):
just to say, hey, we're gonna name drop this for
the fans so that they get a little smirk when
they listen to or when they watch these episodes. Part
of me was like, could Amanda also be some minion
of dark Side that is creeping around and manipulating lex
and doing all this. She could be, But at this point,
like with this is episode eight out of ten in

(16:03):
the final season, and the writing has been so crisp
and has been so concise. Is not the right word
that that's the word I'm gonna use this season. That
there's not a lot of room for fluff. So I
would be really, really concerned if they were trying to
shoehorn in dark Side and a bunch of the apocalyptian

(16:25):
villains to the end of the season. It's just it's
not as grounded as this show has been. So yes,
we got Doomsday, you know, we blew our our CGI
budget on Doomsday in the early part of this season,
So I really don't think we're getting that. It's way
too late. There are just a couple of little things
here there that are kind of like hinting towards the idea, well,
what if this Gordon God for you guys, is a

(16:46):
minion of dark Side? And then Amanda, being as forceful
as she is, a what if she's a minion of
dark Side and she's been manipulating lex since all this.
I don't think. So there's a couple things in the
back of my mind. I'm like, are they I kind
of hope not. Like I'm okay, I'm fine with the
name drops, but I really don't. I don't want that
at this point. And I've said that about Blaniac too.

(17:08):
I'm like, I don't. I don't want Blaniac at this
point because there's not enough time to do it right.
And as we know from mister Miangni, you have done
right no ken defense. So I want it done right.
So I'm hoping. If not, I don't think it is,
but it bears saying. All right, we're back at the workshop.
John Henry does some scams on Clark and says, well,

(17:29):
your cells are not regenerating in your ear, the cells
in your I'm gonna get the word wrong, your oral
thanel your ear basically are not regenerating the way that
they should. You've got signs of heart disease like you Basically, yes,
you are Superman, but you're kind of human heart and
you've got basically the heart of a sixty year old.
So you've got signs of heart disease. You're not You're

(17:51):
not as strong, you're more tired. The scarring your chest
isn't healing. That's not going to change, It's only gonna
get worse. He basically said, You've got probably as much
time as General Brams would have had. So I mean,
the best case scenario, I don't know, ten twenty years,
if you stay healthy and don't get into fights with

(18:12):
giant monsters that were mutated and adapted and consistently murdered
day after day from your Bizarrow World doppelganger. As long
as you don't do that and maybe cut back on
you know, maybe a little bit less red meat and
a little bit less salt and you know, some of
that stuff, then you probably have a little bit of
time left. But basically all the powers and abilities that

(18:34):
make you super are starting to fade. One day, you're
gonna wake up and you were not going to be
Superman anymore. C K and Lewis arrive at the debate.
Gordon Godfrey. He does introduce himself as Gordon at this point,
and they have a little chat between Lois, c K
and Gordon Godfrey and they flowed Diggs here and then
they zip the debate going and they mentioned Superman assaulted

(18:57):
you in Smallville as he's talking Alex, and they do
a little bit back and forth over the events of
the last season so far, mention some other stuff from
season three as well. When they talk about PM Manheim
and Bruto Manheim from last season. And as they're doing
this back and forth, Lotus Lois Lotus. That's if Lois
in an alternate universe, when Lois and Otis fall in

(19:19):
love with each other, it's Lotus. I don't think I
have another joke, Claire, but there was maybe something, but
now well organized, we'll put it that way where my
NERD's at Lotus organizer. Yeah, no, okay, I'll see myself out.
Lex basically says he's deflecting when she brings up Otis.

(19:41):
Lex says, look, when I make an accusation, I have
evidence to back it up. And Lex has video of
his brawl with Clark in downtown Smallville and Lex broadcasters
that roll that beautiful brawl footage. Lex broadcasts this to
the world so that they can see Clark beating the
tar out of Lex in the middle of downtown Smallville.

(20:02):
John shows up at Candas's house. A reporter showed up
at her work and tried to pay her to talk
about their dating life. Apparently Jamie Kennedy has sent her
a friend request to and again and what's with all
the Jamie Kennedy in this episode? As this is going
on in for no reason, all kind of random questions.
While John and Canvas are talking, Jordan just pipes up
to Natalie is like, Hey, how's Mataos because we want

(20:24):
to make sure he's still alive by mentioning his name.
They have a little talk, and John and Candas are
on again. As they are kissing on the porch as
teenagers are wont to do back in Metropolis, Lois brings
out that she brings out that Elizabeth is her evidence
that she does is going to use to back everything up,
and she starts initiating a phone call and is going

(20:45):
to get Lex's daughter on the phone. Amanda makes a
paniced phone call and sits do it now? Milton Hi
John Henry Irons is back. He is watching the debate
and makes a common nice Lois, but then suddenly not
so nice. His computer gets these little green skulls floating

(21:06):
across the screen that say error B thirteen. And that
is because he did not take his vitamins today. Even
his little AI Alexa device is affected by this. Let's
go back to our segment. Who is B thirteen? Brainiac
thirteen is a powerful futuristic version of the classic Superman

(21:29):
villain Brainiac, introduced in Superman Y two K from the
year nineteen ninety nine. Originating from the sixty fourth century,
Brainiac thirteen is an advanced AI that upgrades itself to
become a hyper evolved godlike being. This version of Brainiac
returns to the present day to rewrite history and transform
Earth into a tech hub of his making. Unlike earlier

(21:51):
iterations of Brainiac, Brainiac thirteen is not just interested in knowledge.
He seeks total domination and integrating of all technology into himself.
He upgrades Metropolis into a city of tomorrow. This was
there was a whole storyline where kind of after the death,
funeral and return of Superman, there was a whole storyline

(22:12):
where the clone of Lex Luthor basically destroys the city
of Metropolis. He finds out that he is going to
be arrested for his crimes they've discovered of who he
really is, and when that happens, he basically sets off
a chain reaction that destroys the city of Metropolis. And
over the next several years, as they are rebuilding Metropolis,

(22:35):
the writers decided at some point that they were going
to use the year two thousand to upgrade Metropolis. So
if Gotham is going to be this gothic, dark, dirty,
decaying city that Batman oversees, Superman City should be. If
he's the Man of Tomorrow, it should be the City
of Tomorrow. So they make Metropolis for this stretch of
time in like the late nineties early two thousands. Metropolis

(22:58):
is transformed into this kind of hyper futuristic the City
of Tomorrow kind of the deal looks like something out
of a World's Fair that you might have seen back
in the day. But if if everything news for Brainiac,
if everything is futuristic technology, that's all for him. It's
at the cost of enslaving humanity, which is one of

(23:19):
his other goals he has. Some of his powers include
control over machinery, technology information. He has superhuman intelligence some
energy based powers. Usually when he's fighting Superman. As with
all of Brainiac battles, it's not just strength, but it's
a battle of wits as well. Superman has to outmaneuver
him technologically and mentally in order to protect Metropolis and

(23:41):
the rest of Earth. So what does this mean. This
means Milton has hijacked John Henry suit. Natalie's suit takes
off as well. John Henry Suit grabs him and takes
him off to go kill Superman. The kids are hanging
out having a good old time, a little little campfire
going on until the boys here Natalie's suit and Jordan
goes to intercept it. John Henry and his suit are

(24:03):
headed to Metropolis. C K goes to intercept blasting through
a window in Lex's pethouse. Lois can't get through to
Lex's daughter on the phone. Natalie's suit is trying to
kill the boys, and Superman is fighting John Henry Suit
with John Henry inside the boys in this great scene
and just the crap beat out of him by Natalie's
suit and they end up combining their powers and frying

(24:27):
this thing with combined heat vision. So no more superheroing
for Natalie for a while because she has no supersuit.
Soups and John Henry's suit continue to fight, but John
Henry is getting hurt in the process. The suit then
to distract Superman, drops him and the Superman has to
blast off for just a moment to catch him before
he hits the ground, and in that moment the suit

(24:49):
gets away. Superman heads up into orbit to see if
he can listen for the suit, but we know that
his hearing has been diminished anyway, so probably not going
to be able to find it anywhere. We come back
to Godfrey. Godfrey is this is? Lois and Clark are
watching this later that night, and he's doing a little
monologue on the TV, and he makes a comment that
for the last twenty years, we've read a lot about Superman,

(25:11):
but all those stories come from one source, from Lois Lane,
and now that we know that she's his wife, her
stories must be skewed and we must suspect every single
one of them. How can we trust Lois Lane? And
is Superman really as good as we think he is?
Or was this just a wife manipulating the narrative around

(25:31):
her husband. Superman has destroyed Lex's property and ended the
debate so that they couldn't continue on and then he
ends it by asking can Lois Lane be trusted? And
then he also ends it with have a glorious evening
that goes back to the name of the character in

(25:51):
the comics being glorious Godfrey and.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
I am burdened with glorious purpose.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
All right, So c K and lewis at home watching
this program. He tells her about the scams that John
Henry ran and kind of what that means. We cut
to a scene of Amanda and Lex at the pethouse.
Lex says, look, this almost fails, and I'm not cool
with that, and she said, you know, you're not wrong
about what we both want, and then they kiss on
the veranda. Even though the lifts will be fine. Milton

(26:18):
calls and that kind of interrupts everything. It's Milton us
interrupt us. John Henry is back of the Ironworks. Natalie
shows up and she is angry. How did Lex do
this without a Lex's not a computer genius. He wasn't
on their world. How did he do this without a
computer genius and Natalie, I love this one. Natalie says,
you mean someone like mister Gorman from our world and
John Henry says someone better mister Gorman.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Both keys at the same time.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Oh, it's time to go back to that segment. Who
is Gus Gorman. Gus Gorman is one of the most
memorable characters from Superman three, played by none other that
the legendary Richard and he's this down on his luck
guy who suddenly discovers he has an incredible talent for
computer programming. Now this back in the early eighties when

(27:08):
computers were like the magic to most people. So Gus
becomes this accidental tech wizard. At first, he uses the
skills to kind of pull off a little bit of
a scam, basically skimming fractions of ascent from payroll checks
and pocketing its. Gets the attention of his boss, Ross Webster,
who is a total corporate villain and you know a

(27:30):
little bit about Lex Luthor stand in since Gene Hackman
was not participating in Superman three, Webster ropes Gus into
all kinds of wild schemes, including hacking a weather satellite
to destroy Columbia's Hoffing crops because pevil billionaires gotta be
evil Theyes and they hate coffee, really beans beans the

(27:52):
real kickers. When Gus tries to create some synthetic kryptonites
take down Superman, but since he doesn't know the full
chemical makeup, he provises and throws in Tara, why not
good old Tar at least do some crazy side effects,
and we get Superman turning into this dark, brooding version
of himself who straight up flicks peanuts at bar mirrors
and fights himself in junk guards. Gus is this great

(28:13):
character because he's not really a bad guy. He's just
kind of in over his head. He's not a bad guy.
He might be bad guy, but he's not bad guy,
as Zangief taught us in wrecket Ralph. By the end
of the movie, he actually helps Superman kind of take
down the insane supercomputer that Webster had him build that
was going to help take over the world. And that

(28:35):
