Radio app.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
How Trade devon Daily? Trade for a fourth rounder from
the Saints for next year and in twenty twenty seven
a seventh rounder. How the Broncos do with this deal?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
And they knocked it out of the park. It's it's
a phenomenal deal. I mean, we can start with the
we can start with the actual trade itself, and then
we can break it down why the trade actually makes sense.
But the trade itself. Look, if you would have asked
me yesterday the most likely wide receiver to get traded,
I would have said to Von Bailey. But if you
(00:46):
would have asked me what his value would be, I
would have been like, oh, I don't know, maybe a
fifth rounder or something like that. They got a fourth
and a seventh. I mean, nuts old value. I mean,
that's that's crazy good value for a dude that you
selected in this seventh round last year. You recoup your
initial investment of the seventh rounder. You get a fourth
rounder that might be the first or second pick of
(01:06):
the fourth round because the Saints are gonna suck. So
for all those reasons, just value wise, it's phenomenal. And
then the justification, the rationale, why were you willing to
move on from a player that we all love, that
we like because of redundancy? You just drafted a dude
and Pat Bryant that you think is a pretty good
(01:27):
football player that plays very similar style of football. You
had six guys that were currently on this roster that
all had to make the team in the wide receiver
room unless you traded one of them. And if you
kept all six, you were going to have a healthy
scratch on game day because you wouldn't dress all six.
And that doesn't make sense. So you might as well
get value if you can.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Well, I'm looking this up real fast to see something.
Something stuck to me all of a sudden. The Broncos
when they traded for Sean Payton, gave a first round
and a second round they did, do you think, Well,
that's what just think said, twenty twenty three first round
(02:10):
pick twenty nine.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I know they give a first four.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
To second round pick to the Saints for Sam Payton. Okay,
the Saints twenty four third round selection I guess came
back to Denver, so there was a little could this
been ah Sehn, thanks appreciate you, glad you have a
fun over there. Uh, we'll give you a little change
back on that first round.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I don't think so. I think this is the Saints
just saying we want Vley and this is what it's
gonna take to get it. I think it's a pretty
good negotiation by George Bayden. Yeah, kind of like knowing
that there's value out there for Vley. I listen and
you got to call teams bluff. I think the Broncos
would have just kept him if they didn't have equivalent
value for him. They weren't desperate. If they had to
keep Valley, they would have kept Vley.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
I don't think they were going to cut him. I
do not think they were gonna cut it.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
I think they actively wanted to trade him, though I
mean I disagree with them. That is that their preference
was not to keep them.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Agree and agree and like I think they kept Zach
Wilson last year because they thought there might be some
trade value for him. Turns out no, or it wasn't
what they wanted, so they ended up rostering him the
whole year. It's the only thing that makes any sense. Listen,
this is good. A good deal by George Payton, great
deal by George Payton. You assessed this guy, you put
(03:24):
a certain value on him, and you got it, and
then some it's a great deal.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
It feels like and I hate saying this because it
feels like it's a shot at Devon Vele and I
don't intend it that way, but it feels like you
fleece them, like you absolutely fleece the Saints. Look, DeVaughn
was a productive football player for US last year, but
let's let's be realistic. He had four and fifty seven yards, right,
like productive four seventy five Okay, productive season like that,
(03:54):
that's a valuable member of your organization. That is a
far cry from a fourth and a seventh round draft.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Pick, if they really also Tyler, if you're saying your
seventh round draft pick someone named sure, he'd be anything
but a practice squad guy had forty one catches forty
and seventy five yards in twelve games, averaging over eleven
yards of catch in his rookie season. I mean that
would speak that you probably got some upside in that guy,
(04:20):
don't you sure? Sure? So there that fourth round is
all them thinking that upside is going to be this
year seventy five eighty catches and nine hundred and fifty
yards and nine touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
You know, if they truly just loved Dayley and were
blown away by him, I'm not saying they disliked him,
why would they be drafting Pat Bryant's in the third round.
They wouldn't.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Well, the only thing about this trade is it puts
a lot of pressure on Pap Bryant to you bet,
you better be there, guy, you better be good right now.
And we all think he's pretty good. He's not a
productive trading camp. We liked the guy, but you got
to go out there and you got to produce a
or what.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Well, I think he'll be he'll be given the opportunity.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Think it is lucky stars. I mean, you know he was.
He was working hard to earn the number two spot,
regardless if Devon Valley was on the team or not.
But he just got thrust right into that thing. I mean,
the path is now clear for Troy Franklin to just
You're wide open, buddy, go make the most out of it.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Do you think Mims will just be a slot guy
for the most part. Now that when they line up
and if there's just two wide receivers's Troy Franklin and
Courtland Sutton. Is that how you see it?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Well, he's always been a slot guy.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Okay, But wasn't Mims the second guy though? I mean,
wasn't he your dude? Wasn't he the other end?
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Well?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
I think Pat Bryan had the second most catches on
the team, didn't he? Uh yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, yeah,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Well it makes it more clear for the Broncos here,
rather than carrying carrying six, what does this open up?
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Now?
Speaker 2 (05:55):
What where? What's the corresponding move to this in terms
of of where they go a little heavier or what
they do well.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
I think as training camp was wrapping up this week,
it felt like there was really only two difficult decisions
to be made on this football team. And you had
a loaded wide receiver room, and you had a well,
I don't want to call it a loaded running back room,
but you had a handful of guys that you liked.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
It was a heavy room.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
A heavy room, right, because I think if there.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Was if there's somebody, if there's a running back that
is better that comes up on the open market. I
wouldn't be surprised if the procras went for it.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
I don't disagree. So yeah, but you had a bunch
of guys there, right, and historically you carry three running
backs that that's just kind of the magic number. Four
feels like a waste. Now it feels like, okay, now
we don't have to make any decisions. We got four
guys that we like in the in the running back room,
we'll just carry.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
All four, all right. So we like it, we love it.
We think what of this deal?
Speaker 4 (07:02):
I love the value? You could have done better?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Do you think they could have done better?
Speaker 4 (07:06):
I don't know if you could. I mean, yeah, I
mean that even question like or not like it's silly
because I don't. I don't on the surface, unless there's
something out there that we really don't know about the situation,
I don't. I don't know if they could have done
any better. I mean, you gotta sit there and look
at this or go WHOA.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Well, for whatever reason, Sean did back practice up today.
I'm not exactly sure why. But so they're not they're
like just wrapping things up theoretically right now, and we'll
hear from Sean Payton here shortly.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
All right.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
That was a big backup.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
It went from the start time went from ten thirty
for the media to twelve fifteen, so basically ten o'clock
on the field till noon. So yeah, two hours.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
He's probably letting the guys out early, I would guess,
you think so, I think so, Yeah, he probably it
probably did a little bit more work in the morning,
they're gonna do practice. They probably say to see you.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Later, okay, all right, right, and then they travel tomorrow
and you know, play early Saturday morning. It'll be interrusted
to hear it's eleven am. Oh, I didn't even know that,
you know, I a man. You might have to check
me on this. They may have. Well, it's it is
different because you don't have to settle your cuts until
(08:23):
Tuesday at two o'clock, right, so you have the end
of the games these guys.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
That's like an eternity for these poor kids.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Torture.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah, they got to sit there forever. I mean, wait, look,
it was cutthroat when I was there. There were multiple
cuts that you had to go through. But I mean
the last thing that that coach always said to you
would that meeting wrapped up? Boys, if you get a
call before, if you don't get a call till after
twelve o'clock, your phone doesn't ring the next day. Congratulations
you made the team. Yeah, the rest of you, guys,
(08:51):
we appreciate what you did for you. We love you.
Good luck to you. I mean you say you're goodbyes
in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Yeah, now it's it's just drips.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
When Hard Knocks was fun. We've talked about it before
that last that last show. When when when you guys,
guys think you're on the team and not on the team.
One year, the guys in there like lifting weights at
the facility and it was late and guys are congratulating
him to the team and then boom, something happened. They
made a trade and all of a sudden, Hey Tommy,
(09:23):
you need to bring your playbook.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
It's that Monday practice, Scott, because we would have practice
on Monday. Right after you made the team. You would
go out for practice and every year there was a
turk waiting for you as you're walking off the field,
and so everybody gets to walk off the field and
you're like, don't make eye contact, don't make eye contact.
Please don't be coming for me. And then he comes
to your buddy and you're like, oh, sorry, pal, but
(09:45):
thy god, it wasn't me.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
That is so harge. Sorry pal, Sorry, I know we
spent like five months together, but.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Hey, you're good DUDEO. Sorry pal.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
By the way, I don't know if caught this, but
Josh Allen will not play for the Bills in preseason
at all, not one snap. He's not gonna play in
their third game. And that's a rap. Okay, okay, I mean,
all right, a boy talk about exactly. So now we're
(10:19):
to the point where we're just not gonna play our
best players for some teams literally at all period.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Okay, what Aaron Rodgers doesn't play to snap?
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Right?
Speaker 2 (10:30):
I have no idea is that true? He think so
he's not, although he said he was open for it.
But okay, we're we're we're are we gonna see more
and more of that where guys just don't go whatsoever
in preseason.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Well for guys like Josh, sorry, go ahead, Scott.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Well, and it's why this thing will get pushed eighteen games.
They're they're making a mockery of the preseason, right, dude.
Back in the ninth. He's preseason matter. Tyler's talked about
it how you make the team sometimes.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah, I mean for you guys like Josh Allen, it
makes plenty of sense. Even guys like Joe Burrow. If
I remember Justin Herbert wasn't playing either, right.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Is that right?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
I thought so, I thought I read something about that.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
I just think it's gonna go more and more like that,
because especially for guys like that, you know, and does
Patzertan need to take any reps? Guys, seriously, what are
we doing well?
Speaker 3 (11:26):
They said? Vance Joseph said yesterday, and this really surprised me.
He said, we're hopeful to get both Dre green Law
and Nick Benito back out there for the final preseason game.
No dumb question why, I don't know, put them in
bubble rapp.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Let's go all right, well, Sean, we'll probably address all
that coming up here a little bit, so we'll carry that,
and we have Parker Gabriel to tell us about the
practice itself coming up as well, so everything just gets
pushed back a little bit for today. You and Nick
wrapping with Rachel B. Hill on the Sidelines on Altitude TV.
On Radio Altitude Plus calling the Valor game. What's your
(12:10):
take on this man? And that that is tomorrow? So
what's your schedule tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (12:16):
I'm going up there second show ins. Yeah wow, So well.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
Go down there, yeah yeah, yeah yeah, And the game
is at seven o'clock.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
What kind of pressure is on our guy? And we're
really gonna air this game. We're gonna talk about this game.
Treat it like a real game, right yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Man, it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be it's gonna
be really cool to see. I'm fired up to see
Coach Sandford's first game. Obviously, I'm not like going to
make make that clear on the broadcast. I'm not gonna
be biased here or anything. I'm honestly not. But I'm
fascinated to see it. Coach has been kind enough to
let us mike him up, which is a very unique experience.
(12:58):
Uh so you will hear Coach Sandford my up. Coach
does some unique things, like he's he's not afraid to
get out there, you know. You know how he does
his practice. His entire practice, He's got he's got a
microphone that everything he says, the entire practice goes through
the PA system. So so so the entire field. Can
(13:19):
hear every single word that he says the entire time, Right,
I've never seen that done before, maybe in maybe in Rudy,
but outside of that, I mean, he's not afraid. So
it's gonna be some cool, unique content. They're freaking loaded
with talent. But Pine Creek that's a that's a very good,
historically good high school program. Uh. I mean, you know,
(13:41):
we we talked about, right, Yeah, we talked to both
coaches and kind of got the rundown on what kids
have got offers and everything. And you know, Valor's got
like one hundred some offers between their kids. Right, there's
one or two kids out there pine Creek that will
be playing D one football.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
What kind of impact does it make you think for
high school football that it's made a big deal of
that it's on TV and broadcast on radio, that sort
of thing. I think that's a net positive thing for
high school football in Colorado at that level.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Well, I know, the kids love it, I think, yeah,
go ahead, I'm sorry, Well.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
The kids love it, the families love it, and so
I mean, I think there's a market for it.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Scott.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
I think it's a great public service for the community,
but not everybody gives a flip. But I'm still I
I you know, and I coached high school basketball, so
I I still appreciate any coverage that the high school
kids get. You know. It's still about the name on
the front and the name on the back. So I
(14:46):
think it's I think it's cool. Uh And I wish
Chessa would get off there behind and help promote high
school kids better than they do.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
All right, Well with that, It's all happening on out
Stude Sports Radio seven pm. Tomorrow's brought to you by
sport Clips, the pro in Men's Hair. We will have
Sean pain, We'll have Parker Gabriel about practice. We'll have
let's football go with Dan Bud Squintstanner coming up next.
Just saw Brad from Mountain High Plants earlier today. Brad's
the man. Thank you Mountain Highppliance. We think you guys
(15:17):
are great and I I need everything. We'll make that happen,
all right, Dan Bud, Squints, Tanner, We do await Sean Peyton,
but let's football go, all right.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
Let's hear from Broncos offensive coordinator Fellas Joe Lombardi Yesterday,
Bo Nicks will play a bit in the Broncos final
preseason game against the Saints. What would Joe like to
see out of bow to close out the preseason?
Speaker 6 (15:42):
Yeah, I think in this game would be good. You know,
if you got in a rhythm and and and you know,
put together a driver too, and just you know, we're
getting to the end of training camp and most of
the installs in so just you know, tightening up the details.
You know, before we know it, we're gonna be getting
ready for for that first game. So just continue on
(16:03):
the on the path that he's on.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
What are you guys looking for out of bow Knicks
in the final preseason game for the Broncos. What do
you want to see?
Speaker 2 (16:09):
You'd like to see a I don't care how many
plays it takes, but you want to see him score
a touchdown on the first drive.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
That would be great. You do that, you're out of
the game. Congrats, good drive. I don't care if it's
four plays, three plays. You score in the first drive,
your toast, take the path by.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
The way, four down and three from the fifty, go
for it. Seoan like, what are we doing here? Let's
just let's see if we can make something happen here
the end, like let's go.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah, there was a story Dave told me years ago,
but I don't know where it was. Coaching wanted to stop,
but he had one of his managers kind of a
specialties guy, and he did equipment. Helped all the kids,
a great, big part of the team. I think it
was date with Dave for a bunch of years. Anyway,
they were in a game. They were in a game
kind of struggling. This first thing I thought of the
(16:59):
dance said, what do you want to see? The kid
walks by the coat. The offense is stuck in the mud.
They're not doing anything. Finally, this kid walks right by
Dave on the sideline. Doesn't even stop, but just keeps
walking by him. And as he gets right to him,
he goes, once you call the player, that works.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Sometimes that's good advice.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Dave just loves that story because he goes, God, damn,
he's right, we got listen. I want I want them
to call somebody. And if we if we found out
who's called the plays this game or not.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Oh, that's a good question.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
I would assume Sean, he didn't last game, I would ask.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
I mean, it's a legitimate question.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yes, it's definitely a fair question. But I mean even
Sewan needs a game to kind of get in the rhythm.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
D Well, you would think he would want yes with
bo especially Yeah, yeah, yeah, but he might he might
hand it off afterwards or no, I don't.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
Know who called the first game, who called the second game?
We yeah, I want Davis web to call the games.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Okay, all right, next story, Dan, all right.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
It's been kind of an up and down camp for
the Broncos first round pick Jade Baron. Sean Payton said
they're gonna use him inside and outside, but mostly at
the nickel to at least start the season. So vance
Joseph yesterday, guys was asked, does he agree with Sean's
assessment of how they'll use Jaday Baron.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
That's exactly right what Coe said.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
I mean, he's a nickel corner, and in our system,
if you're a corner, you played nickel when you play outside.
He's been doing a great job. He's a rookie, so
he's uh, he's getting a bunch of looks he hadn't seen.
He's making a lot of mistakes, but he's correcting quickly.
Watching him play Saturday, night. You know, we saw the
explosive this, this, this his strength at the point of attack.
(18:45):
He can cover, he's smart, he can rush, So that's
for a really good What.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
Did you guys think of Jada Baron's performance on Saturday
in the broncos second preseason game.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Did he pop? I don't know about pop. I mean
he did have one decent little tackle in there. That's
good to see. I mean, he's an undersized quarter so
it's good to know that he's not afraid to stick
his nose in there. It's always been his rep he's
he's got a fantastic reputation as a great tackler. It
was good to get a little snippet of that.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I just you know, to me, I haven't really noticed
someone one way or the other. So I'll take the word.
Everybody says he's doing a good job.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
So every player that's ever asked about him is pretty glowing.
So I Fungus said, high praise on him. Everybody's talked
about him.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I don't know if he's going to be your day
one start.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
I agree. I was just going to say that I
think the Broncos will play whoever's whoever they think is
his best mcpell it's a good football player, if I agree,
and there's too much on the line to be worried
about that stuff. If if, if McMillan is better, and
I don't know what they're gonna do with Abrams, drain
and all that sort of stuff. Who knows. They don't
need to force the issue. That's my point. You can
(19:56):
mix him in. I get it that he's a first
round draft pick and more like she'd love your first
rounders to start from the jump. But he was a
little bit of a luxury pick. And they think they
got what they need an RJ. Harvey and Pat Bryant's
and they just got rid of Vley, so I'm sure
they're really happy with what they got. So it's fine.
I mean, work them in however you want. Who cares.
It doesn't matter the sense of urgency for your first
(20:19):
round guy to pop this year. It's not like it's
been in the past because of how deep you are.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
So it's a nice leg because it was a luxury
pick from the get go. Well, that's right, And when
you take a luxury pick, it means that you don't
have to rush upon the field. That's the good part
of the luxury pick. I mean the bad part is
that you might have gotten someone in a bit more
important position of need. But when you do select luxury,
you've got the benefit of time.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
As long as RJ. Harvey and Pat Brian Frankly, Evan
Ingram work out the way you're hoping to. Hey, you're good,
It's all good. Next story. Dan all right fellas.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
ESPN ranked all thirty two NFL teams from the most
watchable this upcoming season to the least watchable. So I
want you to predict three things here. Who do you
think they have ranked as the most watchable team this season,
the least watchable team, and where do you think the
Broncos ended up on this list.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
My guess is the Broncos are in the middle of
the pack because they're just they're the kind of that's
the story of the boring Broncos, that's the trend. The
least watchable will probably be the Saints frankly because look
at their quarterback situation and what's expected. And the most watchable, well,
for different reasons, I think the Browns are the most watchable.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
No, I mean that that storyline doesn't get unfold on
the field, so that doesn't make them watchable. I bet
the Commanders are pretty high on that list. Yeah, I
agree with you the Saints. I think the Browns are
at the bottom of the list. So I strongly disagree
with the Browns. I think the Browns are gonna be
(21:59):
it becomes m pelly. Now if Gabriel becomes a starter.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
If Joe Flacco is just sort of plowing along and
they're doing okay with Joe, Yeah, okay, then it's boring
as hell.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
I mean, dude, did we not predict they're going to
lose their first four games?
Speaker 4 (22:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Who knows it's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
What makes that watchable?
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Well?
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Nothing, it's nothing, all right? Fine, But as soon as
Shadar Sanders starts playing for the Browns, they're the most
interesting team in my book.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Fine, yeah, Scott.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
I don't disagree that. I think your top one or
two will probably look with the explosive offensive team. So
I would look at Detroit Cincinnati as kind of the
two up there most watching. I think Washington's a intriguing one.
That's that's an interesting to keep it hold of. I
think the Saints. Saints are probably at the bottom.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yeah, Like what interesting about we're playing the Saints this weekend.
What what is? Tell me anything?
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Comble baby, Come on.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
They are brutal in terms of like storylines for the Saints.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
He might be a good pick up in the in
the in the in your middle, middle of the late
rounds of your fantasy draft, because they're gonna throw him
the ball a lot.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Oh Scott given fantasy advice? Holy cow, what world have
we entered? Come on board? Next up?
Speaker 4 (23:21):
Den all right, and I would say Denver's probably ten
or eleven.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
We did you say next story? We didn't get the
So Tyler's got nailed it. They have the Commanders as
the most watchable team in the NFL. The Saints are
actually thirty one. Right behind them are the Cleveland Browns
as the least watchable team.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
In the NFL. Team got it way wrong back.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
But to defend Mack just a little bit, they do
have they do have a caveat in there.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
They they say, oh, they have a caveat.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
They say, by week twelve, when Shudor Sanders is starting
his first NFL game, they'll become more watchable. And then
they have the Broncos at fifteen. So they're kind of
right in the middle of the pack middle as far
as the most watchable or least watchable teams in the end.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah, the promise may be very sort of methodical. It
might not be overly dramatic. It just they will Wait,
I think they're gonna wear teams down. I think they'll
wear teams down. I think some games will be close
around halftime, the turnovers will go the Broncos way.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
And are we looking at a boring season?
Speaker 2 (24:24):
You might have it like that. I mean, if if
you're like, let's take their last preseason game. Say you're
up twenty four to three in the first half and
we go to halftime, Well, that's that's pretty awesome. But
what if you win that game twenty seven to ten.
Is that an exciting game or a boring game?
Speaker 3 (24:42):
I'd call that exciting. It's got twenty seven points.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Hell, I get some point. I got you.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
I'll say this, And it's also how you how you
want to watch football? If this defense is everything everybody
else says it's going to be, and it's gonna be
a top two or three sack team, it's gonna be
a top two or three turnover team, there ain't gonna
be a game that's not gonna be exciting to watch
because they're gonna make plays of the Listen. When you
(25:08):
got teams that make plays defensively and scores defensively, that's
usually a pretty exciting.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah. But Scott, Scott, you forget You're forgetting one important
thing here. We live in the ADHD red zone world
and nobody likes watching defense.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Yeah. How many Broncos wins this year? Do you think
we'll be decided before the fourth quarter starts?
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Oh that's a good question. Not a lot.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
I bet you there's at least five or five? I
got five.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Okay, why are you going? Are you going either way? No?
Speaker 2 (25:42):
No, no wins? I said wins. Oh yeah, I said,
how many Broncos wins.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
Are over before the fourth quarter? Or somebody go with two?
Speaker 4 (25:53):
Two?
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Okay, I'll go with five. I think, I seriously think
they're gonna Listen. In twenty fifteen, there were a lot
of close you know what it was. It was twenty
thirteen with Peyton, it was the Broncos were unbelievable, Like,
there are a lot of games that were just snoozefests
because the Broncos had it handled so easily and it was,
you know, cool and everything it was wasn't really exciting.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
It's really hard to have a game in handle with
defense like like you could keep it well within handled
meeting it's within reason to win the game, sure, but
handled like the game's over. That's really hard to define
before the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Hey, listen, these are first world problems and this is
what we're talking about now, which is a nice change
of pace from from years past.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
We all saw to make.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Aime games over by the fourth quarter and losses.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Probably one or two. I mean, it happens. You throw
up a stinker, you know, every now and then. I
don't know if there's any team out there, like, I
don't know, man, what are you playing at Philadelphia? I
don't know. Maybe maybe it's something.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Like that at Washington.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
I hope you're competitive Washing, but I mean Washington put it.
They put it to the Lions in the playoffs. They
they they were explosive. At Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Maybe that gets a little out of hand. That's I
don't know, man, what other game on the schedule freaks
you guys out?
Speaker 4 (27:17):
That game after.
Speaker 8 (27:18):
London home against the Giants, yep, and we better not
have that game decided like It's one thing to lose
that game, but if we get blown out by the Giants, yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
I'm not I'm not saying blown out, but that game scary.
He said, who's skin game?
Speaker 2 (27:33):
But like every game could they could lose every game.
I mean every game could scare you in terms of
just winning or losing. You're talking about like you're getting
blown out, like you don't got a shot in the game.
Like that Eagles game. Yeah, that that's a that's a
that's a gnarly one because it's on a short week
after Cincinnati and it's the Eagles at home. I mean,
that's that's that that could be bad. But other than that,
(27:56):
I don't know, man, I've I think the Broncos are
going to be fine. That would suck at the Chians.
That's that's the reunion weekend. That is uh Russell Wilson
perhaps as a starter, I mean that would be uh,
that would not be great. One more story to Sean.
We're still for Sean.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
So yeah, they're running.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Late today, but they they're close to a half hour
late right now.
Speaker 4 (28:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Yeah, So one more here.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Jerry Jones did a Fox News hit fellas He's he's
popping onto Fox News to give an update on Michael Parsons.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
How close are you to getting a deal with him?
Speaker 9 (28:35):
Mike is a great player, not a good player, but
a great player. We know he knows more than anyone
that it's a team thing. And so, uh, I know
everybody's tired of hearing this, but you've got to put
this puzzle together so that you can have some other
people out there playing with Michael. That's the art of
(28:55):
the deal, and that's why we're trying to get done
and we're trying to make this thing work. We have
all the appreciation in the world for what he can
meane to the years ahead.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
We're brown handy.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
Oh my god, that's his second time, Jerry, my second time.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
It's not it's not Mike is not short from Michael,
is it.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
It's just Micah, Right, it's just Micah the second time.
By the way, in the last couple of weeks he's
referred to him as Michael.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
He has lost it.
Speaker 5 (29:21):
So there's Jerry Jones's Fox News hit regarding Michaeh.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Parsons.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Why is he on Fox?
Speaker 4 (29:26):
Dudes?
Speaker 2 (29:27):
He does every interview he did, Oh, he was on
like Fox News, like like Fox News. That was on
Fox News, not not the Fox Sports or something Fox.
Speaker 3 (29:37):
News Fox News to give that.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Was he on a local station or like like the
national Fox.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
That is Fox dudes implies national.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, I'm just checking there, Dan. I mean, I would
lean in your direction. But why are we doing sports
on Fox News?
Speaker 3 (29:55):
That's what I That's why I'm asking.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
It's not Fox News Dallas, No, it was, It's Fox News.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
So it was probably they were probably talking about Fox
and Friends in the NFL, the NFL, NFL evaluations and
the billions of dollars and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Fox and Friends makes a little bit more sense because
it's a morning show sort of deal. They probably do
all sorts of They might go off the beaten path
there on Fox and Friends. But Jerry Jerry something else. Man,
You guys think you'll watch that Netflix series? Does that
have interest to you or not? Probably watch not particularly
(30:32):
doesn't doesn't Triguey.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
I probably won't watch Hard Knocks, but I'll probably watch.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
Oh yeah, I'm kind of done with Hard Knocks too.
Like this week's I did not, and I could have
watched it, like because I really I watched the I almost.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Watched it last night just because I didn't know what
to watch, but I didn't.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Yeah, I got a little obsessed. I knew it was
gonna the Cowboys thing, Like the last couple episodes weren't
gonna be as good as the first few, and I
was right about that. It wasn't. But you know, you
kind of invest your time into it.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
When I heard that was eight parts, that's too much. Yeah,
I might have watched a two part series on the Cowboys.
I'm not watching eight parts.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
I struggled through episode seven and eight.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
I had a just you know, that's a big commitment.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
I know, you get sunk into it. Then you're like,
all right, fine, I'll watch the rest of the stupid thing.
You don't need to need to bother watching the I
mean the last episode they put thirty years into about
three minutes. I mean, it's crazy, and it really does.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
Like it's kind of like the Celtics one. That last episode.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
You're like, okay, yeah, yeah, it's exactly it was exactly
like that.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
Does it portray Jerry in a redemptive light at all?
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Oh? Yeah, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah. I mean
it shows him as basically a savior of the NFL
for sure, U and a passionate father, a dedicated family man,
a risk taker, and then you can make your minds
up between him and Jimmy John's and they give them
both sort of equal time. But it slants Jerry Jones.
(32:04):
The whole thing slants Jerry Jones, and it really really
breezes over to a certain degree. The White House, the
house they had where they just had that. By their explanation,
we were tired of going out to meet strippers and
do drugs, so we bought a house so we could
bring all of that to the house.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
You know, the Denver Nuggets did that during the Kmart years,
right like Garmelo and them. They bought a house they
bought They bought an old bank that had a bank
vault in it, and that was their party house.
Speaker 2 (32:37):
And they brought strippers and drugs to it.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
I didn't tell you what's going on in there. I
just told you to say, okay, well to get a
guess that, yes, there were strippers and maybe even drugs there.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
So you're telling me that movie Ballers had a little
bit of truth to it, I guess.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
So.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
The the irony despite having the White House, Michael irv.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
Been to it. You have been to the bank. I
have yes, because it was the uh it was that
ski place that you were you were cards, I don't
remember the name.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
It was the ski place that I was.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
Well, you were buddies with the owners.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
The ski place that I was buddies with the owners. Yes,
oh my lord, it was a converted bank. Oh man, Wow,
your guy. I don't know a boy. I never got
an invite, that's for sure. I mean, listen, it was
you know, Michael Irvin got busted with a baseball size
rock of crack cocaine, but like in a Ridgeway hotel
(33:37):
or something like just a cheap ass like lousy hotel.
Plays and then if the whole Michael Irvin trial and
they're tough on drugs and Texas had even found guilty
of that, it was twenty years in prison. Instead, the
judge bought that he didn't bring it there, that it
was just there four years of probation.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
You want to talk about favors done for the Cowboys
back in the day, it was one guy on the
on the Cowboys said, yeah, I was loaded. I was
loaded a lot driving back then, just admits it and
goes A cop pulled up, and I thought, I was
in trouble. The cop ended escorting me back to my house.
All right, Sean Payton snapping up to the pod. What
do you want to do, Dan, you want to wrap
it up?
Speaker 4 (34:17):
What do you want to do?
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Go live, We'll take a break. We'll bring to Sean
Payton coming up next. All right, the story of my
life is Sean Payton probably explaining what's going on with
the Devon vle At trades. So let's go to coach
Peyton at the podium and here's what you got to say.
Speaker 10 (34:38):
Today's practice was obviously more focused on the preseason game
coming up against New Orleans. You know, our plan is
to play our starters for you know, eight to ten
plays depending and that's not just etched in stone, and
then get into our second phase and third face. I've
(35:03):
said this each week. You know there's there's still some
real important decisions to be made. I just told Dave
a story in New York. What was preseason week four? Oh,
we were down to a couple of players and Brasher
Livingston was a returner, returned to kickoff for a touchdown
(35:25):
in that game, and two days later, three days later
next week, you know we're in that final cutdown meeting
front office coaches, the late Wellington Mayra. I'll never forget it.
He was very quiet and we were discussing a defensive
lineman or Brasher Livingston. We're down to this last decision,
(35:48):
and Wellington said, you know, it's be hard to take
points off the board. And you know his kick return
for a touchdown was the reason he made the team
that year, and so we'll leave out tomorrow and then
get ready to go any questions. He's fine. We held
(36:12):
him out, just soft tissue. He's fine. We anticipate him playing.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Yeah, so let's go through that. Look.
Speaker 10 (36:25):
I asked Paul, my assistant, find out how many players
I've traded. We've been involved in a trade with Davon
was the twenty sixth player. The interesting thing with him
that was two and then a third team all called.
(36:47):
In other words, we weren't actively shopping at all, but
teams in need of receivers obviously do a good enough job.
They look at the depth of certain teams, and so
we in like a three day period, George and I
had gotten calls from two serious teams and a third
(37:08):
and all coincidentally on the same player.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
And look at.
Speaker 10 (37:13):
George would know better the initial offer or what the
compensation would be. And the next morning he and I
sat down and said, no that you know, obviously we
value this player.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
And then.
Speaker 10 (37:28):
The following day it picked up. It became more serious,
and then we're having to look at the roster as
a whole and trying to find the right and the
best fifty three. But the thing different and I looked
over those trades, those other twenty five and ninety percent
(37:50):
of them were easy trades to make, meaning there wasn't
the right fit for whatever reason. But there and then
and there's that ten percent that are difficult. This was
one of those ten percent that man all the things
that we look for, discipline, structure, smart, tough, talented. That's
(38:14):
why this one was difficult. And certainly New Orleans was
looking just talking with Mickey, they felt they were missing
a bigger receiver. They knew we had a number of
big receivers, and so it kind of went in the
beginning of the week is just discussion, and then two
(38:40):
teams really came back more than serious about this trade.
And there is a point at some point where you're
looking at the roster, you're looking at your depth and
towards the end, it was something we felt was going
to better for the club. He was fantastic when we
(39:02):
visited with him. He's gonna he's gonna be a real
good player for them.
Speaker 4 (39:08):
And so.
Speaker 10 (39:11):
Those those are those are the tough ones. And and
really I was only able to come up with like
two that were like that. Darren Sproles was a real
tough decision, and I later regretted it, you know, and
so but most of the time they're they're easier. But uh,
(39:32):
but we wish him.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Well, Okay, good stuff right there, and we'll follow. Sean's
still talking now, so we'll follow if there's any other
news to be had. But let's just get on that
a little bit. We give the Broncos credit for the trade.
But hey man, it's easy to do good things. When
you said a bar, they're coming to you, multiple teams
are interested, and you just sort of say, well, we're
(39:54):
not going to do it because we're fine to keep him.
But at the end of the day, every but he
has a price. It's like the Godfather. You make him
an offer you can't refuse, and I suppose fairly looking
at the offer, if we get this, then okay, I
guess so, hey, listen, good for the Broncos. But it's
not like they were very active in it. All they
(40:15):
had to do is sort of imagine what the value
was and if anybody matched it, fine, If they didn't,
well fine.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Yeah, you know, I get it. You don't want to
give the give away the dude for nothing. I don't
buy for a second that they weren't active. I'd mean,
look you and maybe you took that first call and
you're like, okay, well, now that we've got a call,
let's go see what other shooters are out there, see
if we can drive this price up a little bit.
(40:42):
They understood the situation, and there's a reason why other
teams understood the situation. So you know, you want to
talk nicely about the guy on the way out the door,
and there's no reason to say that you were actively
trying to get rid of him. But I do think
that they probably preferred to trade devon Vele because it
made life more simple for him.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
Well maybe I don't know you either believe Sean or not.
I do say this. We asked earlier in the show,
how did you get a fourth and the seventh? Well,
we'll get a couple of teams get get a couple
of teams interested in one guy that was the seventh
round pick a year ago. That that's how you moved
that up. Now I'd like to find out who the
(41:22):
other one. Here's another thing that was interesting about it.
And you forget and we always hear that, you know,
every and and they you made fun of it every
every play. My play guy in the NFL preseason goes, well,
they're not just putting tape up for their own team,
they're putting the tape up for thirty one other teams.
That was just example. Yeah, right, that's kind of an
(41:45):
example right there that other teams do pay attention to
what you got and where you're going. And they probably
Tyler looked at this and this, you got too many
receivers anyway, You ain't gonna keep six receivers. You gotta
do something with it.
Speaker 3 (41:59):
You know, Have you guys seen the amount of trades
that have gone on within the last forty eight to
seventy two hours. It's actually been nuts. Now, barely any
of them register on the Richter scale because we're talking
about sixth and seventh round swaps, so we're talking about
late round picks for dudes that we're going to get cut.
But this is the time of the year that everybody's
picking up the phone call because they say, Okay, we
(42:21):
think that this dude's gonna get cut. That's why we're
calling about him, and we don't want to risk trying
to get him on the waivers on the waiver wire.
So we'll go ahead and give you a sixth rounder.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
Form and let me ask you a goofy question. If
you're Devon Vylane, it's going in that direction. Would you
have rather been a free agent?
Speaker 3 (42:41):
I don't know. Sometimes it's nice to be loved.
Speaker 4 (42:43):
I'm serious, all right, yeah, yeah, but you get over
being traded and realize instead of old they didn't want me,
instead of boy, somebody really did. And when you flip
your mindset and listen, I think for his career, he
ate young. You know, so he's twenty seven young, but
I mean, you know, yeah, Jim, Jim Morrison would tell
(43:06):
you it's twenty seven is pretty old. He's got a
chance to light New Orleans up. I really do. I
think he's got a chance to throw out seventy five
eighty five catches next year, nine hundred yards nine ten touchdowns,
and then that city's going to love him. And that
is a fervent football city. The city's gonna love him,
(43:29):
and who knows, maybe you're sneak in an extension of
a contract and give you a Papa little bonus or something.
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Well, it was funny to hear Sean say, hey, ninety
percent of these deals are easy. I did this with Sprolls,
and I regretted it and I and he's lumping. I
think he's having just a pinch of like, hey, we
really do like vele Man, like you know this, this
could burn us, but this is the this is where
we're at. So so hey Man, good deal, good patience.
(43:55):
I mean, it kind of came to him. I guess
if you're if you were to believe him. I don't
know if we're gonna find much criticism of this deal
here in in Broncos country. I think most people are
gonna like it. Although I did have our sales manager,
Sean Brenn and his son bought a Vailey Broncos jersey
last year. Okay, so you might feel bad for him.
Speaker 4 (44:16):
Hey, he also bought the season tickets to the Fan
concert series year ago too.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Well, there you go grab your twenty twenty six Elich
Garden season pass right now and get the rest of
twenty twenty five, including FrightFest and Elich Holidays to the
lowest price and soon. Congrats to Terry Oliver. He doesn't
have to purchase anything because he just won the two
season passes. Wait to go, Terry two season passes he
(44:41):
won by texting Elich if you weren't our winner. Nate
and Andy have another pair of passes, so stick around
for that. As they come through the door, Scott Any
wanted to talk a little bit about what you were
doing there today. How was it out there golf?
Speaker 4 (44:58):
If you haven't watched it, it's nice. I was telling
a story. We talk about technology and advanced technology. Now
you know they they have companies and guys that you know,
jumped on it early and learned how to do it.
Speaker 9 (45:10):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (45:11):
They get these drones and they're able to fly the course.
And the beautiful thing about that you don't have to
have you know, people off the course or whatever whatever.
So he just fly the drones and they show you
the link and they have Connor for this one will
give you the description of what what's the horse? The
holes about how to play and blah blah blah, and
it's really just a giant infomercial for the course, to
(45:31):
be honest with you, but I was telling these guys,
they said, well, how long I been doing Well, I've
been doing it every year for Altitude and I actually
did a couple of years with Prime UH and Drew
was the main host. They used to film it with helicopters.
Speaker 2 (45:44):
Yeah, it's kind of cool.
Speaker 4 (45:46):
That's a little more offensive, a little more offensive to UH.
And they, you know, at times they'd have to ask
the guy, Well, the funny thing is, this is a
true story. The dude that that sam Our producer was
using to shoot all the videos was a former
