Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen. Not only is it a new episode
of Welcome to slam Town, it's also welcome to twenty
twenty five. Happy New Year, boys.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's the new year. We're here, new year. We're reinvented,
we're brand new.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
We're doing it big. We're doing it big. We're starting
twenty twenty five. We're talking about twenty twenty four. This
is our year end Awards special starting with later. Because
of the holidays and life and all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
We had to take in all of the wrestling for
twenty twenty four. They were still wrestling last night.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
What crazy happened?
Speaker 1 (00:39):
What if the match of the year was last night?
I'm NXT.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It wasn't, But what if?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
What if we're in the timeline where last night's episode
of NXT was the best wrestling they've ever created.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Seriously, it could have happened non zero.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
But it's always I'm your Hostsational Sam Housen, and I'm
joined by mister Intimidating Tim and Jess Josh.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
And it's Josh who that.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
It is good to be here. I love recording this podcast.
It's another year of slam Town, and it's going to
be another year of professional wrestling.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Hell freaking editud business and we are exciting.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Oh man. If you're a first time listener, if you're
a returning listener, we start our show the same way
every episode, and that's our week in wrestling. We've got
cool headlines from the end of twenty twenty four, including
the Giant Omas winning the Pro Wrestling Noah Tag Team
(01:47):
Championships with Jack Morris at the most recent Pro Wrestling
Noah show, which is also headlined by an appearance from
WWE United States Champion Shinsky Nakamura.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
That's freaking awesome, dude, you can't believe it.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Omas is the first ww superstar currently like who's currently
under contract with WWE to win a title in Pro
Wrestling Noah.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
That's a legend.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Moves should be pushed.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Started recording.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
We haven't seen Omas since Backlash Puerto Rico, right like,
that was the last time he was on a televised thing.
I feel like it.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
I mean maybe I don't remember.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I feel like he might have been at the untelevised
live show that Josh and I saw like right before
right after Christmas last year.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Backlash was after the Royal Rumble, right yeah, oh oh,
because he was in the Royal Rumble. I remember that.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I'm thinking Backlash freaking Puerto Rico is.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
The last time he is on like a major thing.
He lost to Sepherlins.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yeah, so tim we we I'm pretty sure we did
see him at Mass Square Garden, Yeah, which would have
been after a backlash Puerto Rico.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Did you miss him?
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Which was which is also the last time that we
see m VP.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Oh yeah, you got released. Now he's in he dub
HM with the Hurt Syndicate. Another exciting thing that's starting
off twenty five January sixth. Do you do you guys
(03:43):
see the teaser at the end of all last week?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
It was the Penta.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
He showed his mask on airy Yeah, showed the zero
with the line through it, and then it slowly turned
into the rest of his mask. Cold. I feel like
Penta's move set is going to be severely watered down
in the WWE, but I'm so I'm still excited, Like
(04:13):
I fucking love Pentagon. Oh my god, mm hmmm.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Uh, it kind of sucks he's gonna be in the
lw S since I don't know how to book uh
Hispanic wrestlers. Yes, mystery partner, I mean He's definitely gonna
be mystery partner, right, Yeah, then, but he should be
a heel like you, just it would make more sense
for him to be here.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
I know you're like a relatively new aw watcher, but
have you ever seen when he was Penta Ascuro, like
his darker persona. I'm not, Oh my god, there, I
don't remember what the feud it might have been in
the feud with Kenny and the Young Bucks for the
Trios title, because before Pack held the Trio's belt with Wheeler,
(05:03):
Yudia and Claudio Castignoli, he held it with Pentagon and Phoenix.
They were the Death Triangle when they were feuding with
Kenny and the Bucks. Uh, Penta went to his darker
mind place and became a Sciro and it's like a
kind of like just it's where he goes when he
(05:25):
needs to get the job done kind of thing. It's
like a more darker.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Live It's like it's like a demon Finn Balor kind
of thing.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
Yeah, like a demon Finn Balor. He comes out like
with a shovel and pops out from under tombstones. It's
kind of got this undertaker vibe to it. But he
still does his scene, like Luca stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
That's tough. I saw someone say like he should be
heal and feud with Ray.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, have Zelina leave Ray and be uh and like.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
His manager translator, he speaks very much English. I don't
think he does, you know who. He had a very
good match, like he was in a triple threat when
he was on Lucha Underground. I think that was like
a lot of people's first exposure to him in the
United States was the Lucha Underground show produced by Robert Rodriguez,
(06:23):
director of Spy Kids. Yeah, that was who made Luca Underground. Uh, friggin'.
He had a triple threat with Reclusa, which was Chelsea
Green and this I don't remember what her name was,
(06:43):
but there was like this group of like ninja women, uh,
and one of them was EO Sky makes sense, And
he had like a triple threat against both of them,
and then a one on one with EO Sky. Tremendous.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
He's had a one on one with Chelsea Green as well.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Oh yeah, yes he has, so imagine if they interacted.
Imagine imagine if he became the second women US United
States Champion.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Confirmed.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, she was reclusive on Luca Underground. That was cool.
Speaking of Lucha Underground, do you want to know who
the last Lucha Underground champion was? I feel like I've
read it before or seen it, but I don't remember who.
It's not a Lucha door uh Jack Swagger. Wow, he
(07:41):
was the final reigning Luca Underground champion when the show
got canceled and they shut down the l RA network.
That's crazy, Yeah, an insane pick like, oh, the all
American American, Let's make him the Lucha champ which Underground
was so good, I don't care or anyone says fucking it.
(08:01):
Oh my god. And then another big thing happening in
early twenty twenty five, this upcoming weekend, the is it
the fourth and the fifth? The fourth is New Japan
Pro Wrestling Wrestle Kingdom nineteen. And then the following I
say night with sarcastic air quotes because it's on it
(08:23):
three in the morning here in the United States. Sunday
will be Wrestle Dynasty, a joint pay per view that
is New Japan Pro Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling Ring of
Honor CMLL and start them WHOA the deal of the day.
You could buy both of the paper views on Fight
(08:45):
in a bundle pack forty five dollars for both shows.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
That seems like a pretty good bundle.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
Bought the all in, all out double pack that was
eighty six bucks.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
This is half of that.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
This is over half the price. Some highlights. One of
the marquee matches for Wrestle Kingdom, Hiroshi Tanahashi, the president
of New Japan Pro Wrestling, will be going one on
one with the leader of the House of Torture Evil
in a lumberjack death match. If Tanahashi loses, he must
(09:27):
retire from inering competition.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Kay Love's Stakes Like That.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
A fatal four way Tokyo Terror Ladder match for the
tag team titles. The champions going into the match Kevin
Knight and Kushita the Intergalactic jet Setters. One thing I
love about New Japan as a relatively new fan of
(09:55):
the promotion. They got some wild friggin names for their
factions and their tag games. We got the Bullet Club
war Dogs, we got the House of Torture, We've got Chaos,
we got a team Filthy, and like others, those are
the four ones. When you go on the website, it
(10:17):
says shot by faction. Those are the four that drop
down when you click it. But AnyWho oh and the
LFI those fascione in Governor Nobles some big monkey stuff
For the Wrestle Dynasty show. After four hundred days away
from the ring, Kenny Omega is returning to active competition,
(10:41):
going one on one with Gabe Kid.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Crazy.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
We're gonna have Zach Saber Junior versus Ricochet, also Crazy,
David Finley versus Brodie King.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Birdie King deserves to be pushed.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I freaking love Brody King. That's my dad. Loves the
House of Black, Malachi Brody and Buddy Matthews. But once
he found out what Malachi and Brody's tag team is called,
he likes them even better when they're a duo, The
Kings of the Black Throne Goats. That is just such
(11:24):
a badass fucking name. One more highlight from the two
japan shows. On Night one at Russell Kingdom, aw International
Champion Kenoski Takeshta will be going one on one with
the never openweight champion, the Japanese Dragon, Shingo Chikaga, and
(11:45):
a winner takes all match two belts, and then the
following night, whoever wins that match is defending both belts
against tomahiro Ishi at Wrestle Dynasty Double Duty. Baby tomihiro
(12:06):
Ishi the stone pit Bull. That motherfucker ain't got no
neck correct. Oh my god, that guy is built like
the box a refrigerator comes in and the fridge is
still inside it. He looks like a smaller tomahiro Ishie
conquered a larger Toma hero is E and then absorbed
(12:27):
his power in essence like a twin in the womb.
Oh god, I'm back. I have healed, I have recovered,
My humor is returning, nature is healing.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Oh man, it should be two good shows. I'm not
gonna watch them live because again, it's like three in
the morning when they go on, but I'm excited to
check him out. Producer Rick has his new website where
they post wrestling articles, opinion pieces, and results. I'm going
to start writing for him in the new year, and
I'll be doing results and coverage for these two shows. Sick.
(13:06):
I'm very excited. If you guys, do you guys have
any this week in wrestling that you'd like to talk about.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
I have one thing that I'd like to add.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Oh yes, hit us.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
So we were talking about how Monday Night Braw we'll
be premiering on Netflix on January sixth. Yes, last night
was n XT and it was the year End the
War Awards. Okay, and one Joe Hendry one best moment
(13:38):
I think and gave a speech and it was like,
you know, I'm a teenage superstar and I love crossing.
I love crossing over. It's great, you know all the
formalities and at the end he's like, and one more thing,
say his name and he appears means anytime, any place,
(14:00):
any show. Ooh, so imagine Joe Hendry coming out January
sixth on the Netflix premiere.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
To be Ray Mysterio. It's mystery tag team partner.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
No, he's actually seen, is going to issue an open
challenge and he's going to answer Scena's open challenge.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Oh my god, John versus Joe in a rap battle.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Love it.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
That would be wild, That would be truly diabolical work.
Oh I forgot how you boys ready to move into
our award show.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Yeah. So the order I wrote it down in was
the order Tim texted it to us in the group chat.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
That is exactly how I have my notes set up.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Perfect and then at the end of it, I added
the three I wanted to include, which were the breakout Star,
best feud, and the flop of the year. Yep, okay, perfect.
So we'll start with our first award. Yeah, and that
is best pay per View, Tim, why don't you start
(15:11):
us off?
Speaker 2 (15:13):
All right? So this is there, like, there are a
lot of good ones. This here a lot that we enjoyed,
which with each other's company, which was good. I enjoyed
branching out to promotions other than ww to watch other
pay per views. These are something good on it always
feels like. But I know it might be a little basic,
(15:36):
But I gotta say my pick for the best pay
per view of the year, it's got to be WrestleMania.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Hell yeah. And I think Josh and I both know why.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
M Well, in addition to it being a good card
and like a good like whole event like two day
show and all that we were able to experience it together,
the three of them out in Philly watching from the
hotel room.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
That was such a fun trip, Oh my.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
God was Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
So that is my pick, all right, Josh, why don't
you hit this week your best pay per view? My friend?
Speaker 3 (16:14):
All right? So the same sentiment as Tim. All of
the stuff that we were able to watch together or
was amazing, and I there was an aw pay per
view that I really enjoyed this year. But just looking
through everything, I am gonna also pick a w WWE
(16:36):
pay per view and I'm gonna have to say Backlash
France was the best pay per view of the year.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Nice, And it's it's partially because of how good the
crowd was. But like really looking back at the card,
like the matches were good.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
That was Cody and Styles I quit right, correct? Yeah,
hell yeah, that was good.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
That crowd was so into it. It was phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Every single match, Like that's that was That was Cody
versus AJ, that was Damien versus j. We even got
Women's Tag didn't we get Women's Tag title defense on this?
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (17:15):
And Alba Fire right?
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Uh no?
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I think that was Clash of the Castle.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Yes, yeah, that's when they won it. I think yeah, yeah, okay,
never mind.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
So uh I think let me hold on, let me
see here. So first of all, this is the first
match for Toma Toga.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
That's right. Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I had a street fight. Oh yeah, And then Bailey
fought Naomi and Tiffy for her championship.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
That she just won. Yep, that was a good one.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
And then Damnian bj and then we got seventeen minutes
of women's tag team wrestling on a pl E.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
That is incredible to see.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
That insane, just wild and uh Bianca and Jade.
Speaker 3 (18:09):
I think this is the first time Bianca and Jade
win the tag titles. They went off of Oscar and Kyrie.
That makes sense, but obviously Cody beats aj wikipedia has
it by pinfall. That might not have been the I
quid match.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
They did have. They did have a few pay per
view matches in their feud, I think.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Because what else? What was the next paper?
Speaker 1 (18:37):
You're asking the wrong guy. I don't remember him in order.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
It wouldn't have been Summer Slam, right, No, I.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Think it was Money in the Bank.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Oh and money in the Bank a kind of stunk.
I remember that.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
No, it's Queen and King of the Ring, which I
don't think there was title. It's there, But then Clash
of the Castle was the.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Like what match?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Mm hmm hmm.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Okay, no, yeah, I think you're right.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
That sounds right, so I'll come it back, baby, Yeah,
Like I very vividly the show have memories of that
crowd backlash France just chanting along, singing to people's songs.
That's kind of where the whole overseas pay per view
(19:31):
trend started, where it's like, holy crap, these crowds are
into it.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
And then they put that fake ass looking like volume
monitor thing on the side. Yes, I love that. Every
time it pops up and like, that's a bad graphic.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
It's very cheesy. It belongs in like, I don't know,
double a affiliate baseball stadium.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
It looks like a bowling screen victory thing it does.
If you guys are ready, can I hit you with
my pay per view of the years.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
For talking for so long?
Speaker 1 (20:06):
You're good, dude. We love talking wrestling. That's the whole
name of the show, ye, name of the game. Brother,
That's true. Little brother Tim is the oldest brother on
this show. Actually related you, guys, lit bros. So from
(20:27):
my pay review of the year, I went against the
grain of my co hosts and did not pick a
WWE one.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
My pick for paper review of the year a e
W Revolution.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah. This is a pay per view that featured the
debut of Will Osprey as an All Elite roster member.
Will Osprey one on one with Kenoske Takeshta. This man
absolutely cooked fed families. I had a bunch of people
(21:03):
over to watch it. It was a lot of my
friends from D and D who aren't like expressly wrestling people.
They like to come out, come hang out, watch wrestling
and just enjoy the vibe. They're like visceral reactions. And
the way they were talking about this match as it
was happening, they were becoming fans, Like in front of me,
(21:25):
it was really cool. Yeah, in real time they were like,
holy shit, wrestling is cool, dude.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
This I'm looking at the card. This card is stacked.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Pre show Bang Bang Scissor Gang versus Jeff Jarrett, Jaya Etho,
Willie Matt and Saam Saying and the Private Party.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Yeah, twelve and a.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Twelve man tag match. Then you follow that with Christatlander
and will and Nightingale Babes.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Who they've both been on really good matches.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
This year, correct against Julie Hart and sky Blue like.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Come on opening match of the main part of the
pay per view, Christian Cage versus Daniel Garcia TNT Championship.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Oh hell, yes, this is when.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Garcia started doing that stupid little dance thing and like
bonking people with his pelvis. Eddie Kingston beat Brian Danielson.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
At this pay per view Oh my god, yeah, to.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Retain the Continental crown. And then since Danielson lost, he
was forced to shake Eddie Kingston's hand.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
And then also Roger Strong became international champion. He beat
Orange Cassidy.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Our boy Orange Cassidy.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
The timeless Tony Storm appearance total sidebar. Have you guys
seen what they're doing with Tony Storm now.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
The like only good thing happening in aw right now?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Yes, I hate to say it, but yes.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
I'm I'm a bit out of the loop. What's her?
Speaker 1 (22:58):
She returned at what was it Winter is Coming? Yeah,
she returned it Winter is Coming, but not as Timeless
Tony Storm, as regular Tony Storm the punk rocker. But
she has amnesia and does not remember being timeless Tony Storm.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Oh sh She thinks she's.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
Still just becoming all elite, So she's walking around like
reintroducing herself and like fighting her away from the bottom.
So she's been appearing on like Ring of Honor, the
Zero Hour, all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
She's like changing in the hallway.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Yeah, she's like reverting to like a day one rookie
working her way up kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
That's that's great.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
That's She's so much fun and I can't wait to
see the rematch between her and Mariah may Nice. But
the real reason I picked ae W Revolution.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Was for the main event is this Sting's retirement.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
Staying last match. Oh my gosh, Tornado tag match for
the AW World Tag Team Championship. Sting and Darby Allen
go into the match as champions against the Young Bucks. Now,
nine times out of ten, if a wrestler is getting
(24:21):
ready to retire as actively a champion, they lose the
title in their final match.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
You got to pass the crown.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
I was livid that the Young Bucks were the final
opponents for Sting and Darby because I did not want
the Young Bucks to get the tag belts. But guess what,
Sting and Darby won the match. Sting retired undefeated in
AAW and as champion.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Honestly, couldn't have to a better guy.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
The only time we've seen Sting since he showed up
to save Darby after the Coffin match at all In
when they tried to light him on fire. Yeah, which
is a good bump through a pane of glass in
this Tornado tag team match.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
That was a wild bump. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Had an insane month run here. Yeah, Like he went
through a pane of glass. Then he was leaving to
go climb Mount Everest. Then he got hit by a.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Bus YEP and then it was the bus accident spot
in that anarchy the arena man. Yes, yeah, oh my god.
It was raised year for wrestling, guys. It was so good.
These two sons showing up as like original Red White
(25:41):
and Blue Surfer Sting and yes Red Wolfpack n w
O Sting.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
They had like a whole like video package.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
Yeah, like the movie theater and it was oh my god,
that was Chef's kiss. Great pay per view, sin.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
The Martin with his hands up cinema.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
So that wraps it up for our best pay per
View award, Solid picks all around. He next award on
the docket Best Wrestler Male.
Speaker 5 (26:18):
Yes, hit us with your pick, all right, I'm gonna
do it. I'm gonna say Joe Hendry. Hell yeah, I
said his name, and he's gonna appear in our word list.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
That is I'm Julie Hendry.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
I'm Scottish.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
Look at my.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Joe had such a good year, and I know it
was definitely a lot hotter kind of around the middle
or so. It's been a little quiet on the Joe
Hendry hype for well a little bit now, but I
think things are going to be heating up.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Shut tisk task on TNA for not giving him the
championship when he was really hot.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
But I know the title match at the next pay
per view.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Yeah, and he's gonna enter. He's gonna enter the rumbles
TNA champion.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Hey, real quick, super glad A j Francis didn't beat
Dolf Ziggler for the belt at the last show, that
would have been stupid. Yeah, he just resigned to TNA. Also,
I saw that he's gotten better, but still it's flapped dollar,
flapped dollar Joe Hendry. Great pick. Do you have a
(27:33):
favorite Joe Hendry match from this year?
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Oh, he was part of a multi man match for
the title. I forget who all else was in it.
It might have been a six man, it might have
been a four man, but I remember he pen. I
think it might have been like a like if you
get pinned, then you're like outsort of deal.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Were he pitting Josh Alexander?
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Yeah, and then he had the cup with his face
on it? Yes, yeah, that was a that was a
good match.
Speaker 6 (28:13):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Mister Josh, who's your best male?
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (28:19):
I think this is not going to come as a
surprise to the two of you, because I have really
fallen in love with this man this year. But my
uh male Wrestler of the Year is will Ospray.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Let me interrupt you real quick. I also gave mine
to will Ospray.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
All right, Sam, let's let's uh hell yeah this because
I mean, there's nothing wrong with Joe Hendry, but like,
will Osprey is just so good.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
He's the goat, He's the billy goat.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
He's like you want to talk about like a Mount
Rushmore of active wrestlers right now, he's on there. I mean,
it's he's just he's so good and he had such
a good year.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
It faced Mount Rushmore. And it's also will ospra exactly
one of my favorite will Osprey things. This is why
I put him on his final match in New Japan.
It was a ten man tag steel cage match.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Yes from Okay, thank you for reminding me I know
exactly what you're talking about.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
It was Osprey, uh, Jeff Cobb and Rap and Francesco
Akira from the United Empire against the Bullet Club war Dogs.
It's like Finley Clark, Connor's Drilla Maloney and I forget
who the other two were, but like Osprey and the
(29:50):
guys lost, but like they pulled the ring mad out.
They were dropping him on the plywood weapons, handcuffs, everything.
Oh my god, it was so good. And then him
like the match with Kakeshta at Revolution, his first as
like an officially all elite roster member. Holy shit. And
(30:13):
then if I'm remembering my year correctly because he did
this last year, I got a couple of things wrong.
He went one on one with Mike Bailey at Bound
for Glory KNA before he like joined aw, oh shit,
(30:33):
I'm not sure. And then he I think he also
fought Josh Alexander a couple of times in TNA.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
All right, hold on, let me say.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
I hope if I'm not still the.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Twenty three.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Was it twenty three Ospray and Bailey.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Unless unless it was this year, it doesn't give me.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
A year, Okay. Any regardless, that match was awesome.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
He fought wait who, So he fought Mike Bailey. It
looks like it says twenty one October, but I don't know. Yeah,
I don't remember that. But then he's faced. At the
beginning of last year he fought Josh Alexander.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Matches were very good. You should watch him if you're
an Osprey guy. Yeah, Oh yeah, Will Ospre Well Ospre
the Go bro literally the Billy Go Brove, and then
him being International Champion in AW. One of my favorite
(31:45):
shows AW puts out is Forbidden Door, and I will
admit this year's Forbidden Door, the one tim you drove
down for he never really felt like a true Forbidden
Door pay per view. Yeah, because the main event was
versus Osprey to AW guys when it's traditionally an AW
(32:06):
guy like AW World Champion defense against a new japan
guy and then vice versa. This match was still good,
though it just shouldn't have been at Forbidden Door Champion
versus Champion, Swerve versus Osprey tore the house down, but
wasn't a Forbidden Door, right.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
And that's kind of your with such That's how I remember.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Then MJF fought Henscha Saro from CMLL because New Japan
doesn't work with wrestlers from Triple A because their group
they work with in Mexico is CMLL. So originally they
were gonna do MJF versus Ruche, who's a Triple A guy.
(32:50):
But then again, that also wouldn't have been a forbidden
door match because they're both aw wrestlers. Yeah, so replacing
us with Hencha Saro at least still made it a
forbidden door. It was just like a weird MJF and
hen s Cicero, Like didn't I didn't. I don't think meshed. Well, yeah,
(33:10):
but that's neither here nor there, uh, talking about forbidden door.
John Moxley was IWGP champion in twenty twenty four. Yeah,
he lost the belt to Nito at that forbidden Door.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
That wasn't the last time we saw him before all
the current yeah right.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Yeah, and then Nito of course dropped the belt recently
to Zach Saber Junr, who, for the first time in
his eleven year career is the champion in like the
main champion in New Japan, whom so that out wraps
it up for our best wrestler male.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
The only other thing, only one thing I want to
add is just how many bangers he put on on
table television, Like, oh my god, all of his all
of his paper matches like Chef's Kids, but like his
freaking TV matches were just as good, if not better
at times. Yeah, like even just recently the fifth anniversary
(34:15):
episode of Dynamite, like he fought Ricochet and Takeshta, Yeah,
defending his title. Sorry no, sorry, he fought Ricochet and
then Takesha interfered, and then they.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
Ye set up the match at wrestled.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Dream and even now with the with the is it
c Squared.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
The Content Classic? Yeah, the finals match with like the
not the finals, but like the last TV match him
and Brodie King in the Hammerstein Ballroom, Oh my god.
Yeah yeah. So anyways, now we're moving on. He did
best Wrestler, mail, gotta do best wrestler Female. We gotta
(35:03):
keeping the trend for each award, tim start us off.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Oh boy, here we go. All right, so this might
be recency biased, but for my best female wrestler, I'm
gonna go with Chelsea Green.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
Heck you, Chelsea.
Speaker 2 (35:21):
She recently got the first ever US women's title and
longest raining and longest raining yes, and youngest she's really
been building up a lot this year. She went from
kind of just being like a person who just kind
(35:43):
of gets like squashed kind of quickly. Like wasn't her
first big comeback last year at the Royal Rumble she
got eliminated with him like what five.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
Seconds that record for shortest time in the rumble that.
Speaker 3 (35:57):
Was the year before. This past year was when she
kept getting pushed by Nya and.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Piper that's right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Oh yeah, in the corner and then so and then
one of the big girls was in front of her,
and then the other one would like do a splash
in the corner and hit her. Then she was on
the ground and like Naya threw Piper, and then Piper
threw Naya and they just kept landing on her.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
That's funny.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
See, I feel like, you know, she also just had
a really big spot at the Women's Money in the
Bank ladder match. Yeah, praise. Yeah, she had a really
fun match that I liked where she was like a
dumpster match against me Chin. Yes, it was really you know,
that was a fun one to watch as well, And yeah,
it was. It was great to see her winning her
(36:43):
matches in the tournament for the new title and then
winning that Saturday main event.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
I just felt like she had a good year.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
She had a great year.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
And Josh, who is your pick?
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Sam? I have a feeling we might have the same
one again, Okay, but at the same time, there's a
lot to choose from. So my female Wrestler of the Year,
to no surprise, i'd hope is Roxanne Perez.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
We not have the same one, Josh.
Speaker 3 (37:19):
Don't have the same one, thank goodness. Yes, the Prodigy.
She is on a heater and sadly might be losing
her title soon. But that's okay because she's still the goat.
Speaker 1 (37:39):
Uh having say, she.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
Correct me if I'm wrong? Had the title once before,
she won it at Stand and Deliver, Is that correct?
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Yeah, she's a two time champion. Okay, So.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
She wanted off of Lyra? Is that right?
Speaker 1 (38:01):
M hmm, Yeah, she read the first time, she won
it off of Mandy Sacks, and then she won it
off of Lyra the second time.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
So first off, let's just talk about the fact that
she was enterant number twenty seven in the Royal Rumble,
which historically is the winning number.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Right, Yes, that's right.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Is that's number with the most victories.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Yeah, obviously the women have a different trend, I think,
but still like she is. They thought of her that
highly that they put her at that number that is
synonymous with victories in the men's roller Rumble.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
Right, uh?
Speaker 1 (38:40):
She what what happened? She was?
Speaker 3 (38:46):
So she was champion in the Royal Rumble? Right?
Speaker 1 (38:50):
Yes, she entered the Rumble as an ex st women's
campus because she.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Had beaten Lyra at Vengeance Day if I'm reading correctly,
Yeah no, no, no no no. Vengeance Date was after the.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Rumble, so she hadn't even she was not champions.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
Let me see here. So she wanted to stand and
deliver youngest two time winner Wikipedia coming and clutch.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
Oh yeah Wikipedia ip asking me to donate.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
But hell yeah Wikipedia, I mean she's beat she beat.
First of all, she beat Lyra, whose main roster talent.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Mm.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
She beat Lollavice, who cashed in her breakout tournament contract
during the Vengeance State match where she beat Valkyria and
then made a triple thread right. Uh, two time winner
YadA YadA, YadA, Tatum Pasley and then the big one.
She's beaten Jordan Grace actually twice.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Now absolutely huge, and.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Now we're pulling out the Freaking Avengers with Julia and
Stephanie Vacker and now Zaria formerly Delta and granted it
wasn't a UH title match, but her and Core Jade
(40:25):
beat Did they beat Julia and Stephanie in that tag match?
Speaker 2 (40:31):
I cannot remember Stephanie one.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
I'm pretty.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
Still she's standing Cora as the Shining Twins.
Speaker 6 (40:45):
Pretty great, Yes, very great, very very so.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
H yeah, roxand Peiz Female Wrestler of the Year.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Great pick.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
So once again I have gone against the green my pick.
Not a w w W wrestler.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Know who this is, but go ahead.
Speaker 1 (41:07):
Current TNA Knockouts Champion and Jersey Championship Wrestling Champion Masha
slam L Yes.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Great seen her Wrestle Live, Baby Brother.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Oh my god. We sorry at the Collective when we
were at c W. One of the last times I
went to GCW in Hartford, not the one we went
to Tim the one before that. Masha Slamovich and Rena
Yamasha challenged for the GCW tag team titles together. Came
up and behanded, but she Masha Slamovic this year was
(41:54):
one half of the TNA Knockouts Champions Tag Team champions
twice once as a member of MK Ultra with Killer
Kelly and the other time as an honorary member of
the System, and she held the belts with Alicia Edwards.
And then she's Knockouts Champion d throning Jordan Grace in
(42:15):
like a two out of three falls match that absolutely
ripped ship and she won this year's jersey Ja Cub
to become the j CW World Champion. Mm hm, she
had a great year. She's doing TNA, she appears in GCW,
she fights for j c W, she shows up everywhere.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
And she gives it time.
Speaker 1 (42:37):
Oh my god, she's great. As my sister affectionately referred
to her one time when she watched GCW with us
Masha Slamovich more like Masha slam a bitch hell female,
Masha Slamo bitch o nice. Now, you might be saying
(42:58):
to yourself, all they've talked about is pay per views
and singles stars. What could the next award be? And
that is best TV Match? O me? And as always
Tim start us.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
Off a that's me all right, So I'm going to
pick a TV match from Seamus, he self proclaimed as
banger after banger, got I agree with him, puts on
a lot of matches. I love. The one I'm gonna
pick is Seamous versus Gunther during the King of the
(43:42):
Ring tournament that was going on. I believe this was raw.
I forget the exactly air day, but this was a
great match to watch and it was just on TV,
Like anyone could have watched that for free, for free?
Speaker 1 (43:57):
Could you pay for cable but free? Y?
Speaker 2 (44:01):
Yes, that's gonna be my picked. Shamus first scunter during
the King Ring Tournament qualifiers.
Speaker 1 (44:07):
That's good, Josh.
Speaker 3 (44:14):
I just have a singles match that, you know, no stipulation,
no crazy uh you know what, story implications, just just
just real graps on TV. I'm gonna have to go
with Ricochet versus Ilia Dragonoff on the May twenty seventh
(44:38):
episode of Monday Night Raw.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (44:41):
Hell, that was a good feud.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
Yeah, it was a very good future and then to
interweave brown Breaker into that was just Chef's kiss.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
Oh, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (44:53):
Delicious.
Speaker 3 (44:54):
So by flying, fast moving, that's fun.
Speaker 1 (44:59):
Yeah, dragonov get better soon.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
Man, we missed to see more of him again.
Speaker 1 (45:07):
So guess what, guys, Once again, I have gone against
the grain pick a WWE match.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
My best TV match is going to MJF versus will
Ospray for the AEW International Championship on Dynamite.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
Oh, is this the match where they ran at a time.
Speaker 1 (45:35):
This was the one that was like an hour long.
And then MJF won the belt and had to get
the oxygen tank put on him.
Speaker 2 (45:43):
Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
Yeah, and then it very quickly they turned the belt
into that ugly ass American Championship for like two weeks,
which MJF winning the belt off of Osprey led to
the match at all In where Osprey had that kick
ass assassin his creed entrance. Yes, oh so good, and
then they had the giant American flag with mjf's face
(46:06):
all over it dropped down. Yeah. Yeah, Osprey won the
belt back after like two weeks.
Speaker 3 (46:14):
Oh hilarious.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
So good m JF. You'll love to.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Hate that absolutely talk about falling off.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
Sorry sorry, I'm not sorry.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
You're not wrong. He wanted World's end, so he's just
got the dynamite diamond ring.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
H whatever that means.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
Kyle O'Reilly joined the Undisputed Kingdom. Yeah, so he's not
in the conglomeration anymore with Brisco and Orange Cassidy. That's whatever.
I didn't think that match was very good. Don't really
like Adam Cole not gonna, not gonna lie m hm.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
Also kind of falling off.
Speaker 2 (46:59):
Yeah, didn't dirty for a bit there.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
The whole pacing of the Undisputed Kingdom thing sucks like, aw,
not very good right now. I hate to say it. Yeah,
it's on right now Simulcast TV and HBO Max for
the first time. I didn't even bother. I might watch
a replay, I might not.
Speaker 3 (47:23):
I'll get I'll get the highlights on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
The main event is Moxley, Utah and Castignoli versus rated
FTR Cash Wheeler, Dax Harward and a recently returned Adam Copeland.
Oh boy, Adam Copeland returning at World's End was really cool.
Him and Omega.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
Yeah, that was yeah. I mean he he busted it.
He broke his leg right, and he was able to heal.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
In the Steel Cage match against Malachi Black at.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
A couple of months ago. At this point and at
his age, being able to heal under a year from
a broken yeah, I feel like that's that's something impressive.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
And that match was good because he was T and
T champion and the Steel Cage one he was TT
champion and it had an appearance of Gan Grell. So
they brought like the Brood back for one night. Oh
that's right, so we did best TV. We may now
move into best match paper.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
View from my pay per view. So my pick is
I'm finally switching things up. Not from a w W
pay per view, but this was from all in. I'm
gonna go with Brian Danielson versus Swerves Strickland.
Speaker 3 (48:49):
Hell, yes, mother Hunter, that is what I also picked.
Speaker 1 (48:58):
Piece is insane?
Speaker 3 (49:00):
Did you pick it too?
Speaker 1 (49:02):
No? I went against the Green and minds at WWE match.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Now, how do you like it? Sam?
Speaker 1 (49:10):
I want to hear you two talk about the match though.
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
That So this match had the stipulation where if Brian
Nailson lost, he was gonna like like it would have
been the end of his career. Is that right? Or
did we not have that stipulation?
Speaker 1 (49:27):
So this one was title versus full time career?
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Gotcha?
Speaker 1 (49:33):
So he if Danielsen didn't win the belt off of Swerve,
he was going to retire from full time competition and
then move down to something like less than part time. Right,
So we all know Danielsen won the match, became world champion, yes,
very must title defense was also title versus career mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (49:58):
Brought his whole family in a very big celebration just
like really meant a lot for for him to connect
and within obviously, because like you know, he deserves it.
I would say, I feel like, I feel like no
one would argue that.
Speaker 1 (50:14):
Yeah, Danielsen was for the longest time still probably is
my favorite wrestler. The same here him entering to the
final countdown for this match, Holy shit, so cool.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
Oh yes, that.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Was his original entrance music like when he debuted and
Ring of Honor, all the callbacks. His title rain was
pretty short though he only had what three defenses.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
He defended it the following three pay per views, and
I think that was it. Yeah, het he fought Nigel,
but no, you're right, you're right, you're right, he thought,
Jack Perry it all out, yep.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
And then he fought Nigel at Grand Slam Dynamite and
then Moxley at Russell Dreams. Yep.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
That was it all.
Speaker 2 (51:08):
She wrote.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
I think his injuries were a lot worse than they
had originally thought.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (51:16):
The rumor was he was originally going to drop the
belt to Darby Allen. Oh wow, they pivoted it to
Moxley and then that's what caused the implosion of the BCC. Right,
they turned on him. It all out and then because
I think Danielson requested.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
It, they had that whole plastic bag.
Speaker 1 (51:41):
Oh that was hard to watch. That was all out.
Speaker 2 (51:46):
Okay, that was odd because they had that like super
violent like ending and then immediately went into the Hangman
swerve of like no holds barred style match with.
Speaker 1 (51:55):
The syringe through the cheek the lights out to his cage.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
Match of the year.
Speaker 1 (52:02):
No moment of the year was that noise Josh just
mate agreed. So my pay per view match of the year, Well,
the overall pay per view I thought sucked, but the
opener was tremendous. CM Punk versus Drew MacIntyre.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
Hell out, hell yeah, hell yeah, Oh.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
My god, that match was so good.
Speaker 3 (52:33):
I feel so bad because Tim actually came over to
watch and he missed the first ten minutes of this match.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
I remember the text the mat in the group chat.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
It was it was good to go back and rewatch,
but that would have been so tight to see, like
watching live together.
Speaker 1 (52:50):
It was cool because bad Blood was Ready originally debuted
the Hell and a Cell match.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
That's right, and it was like the.
Speaker 1 (52:58):
Twenty fifth inniverse or something maybe, but it was a
big anniversary for the Hell in the Cell. But we
were talking about it on the car ride home from
dinner tonight, my lovely partner Kayley. This is one of
the first times she watched wrestling. She came over. It's
her myself, my friend Ray from work spelled like mysterio.
(53:20):
Then my friend Ray from D and D spelled different way,
walked in it together. That's how he introduces himself. He says,
my name is Ray, spelled like master.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
That's a word word to spell Ray. M Y s tv.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
Y. Yeah to see it fanatically anyway, Yeah, this I
thought this match was so good. There was like the
toolbox spot.
Speaker 2 (53:47):
The.
Speaker 1 (53:49):
Blood, It was just so good.
Speaker 3 (53:54):
No, that was your pick, the McIntire, the mc and
tire spot for the claymore on the steel steps and
the match.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
Who the whole storyline between them though, Like this is
like the the third out of the feud Baity Charity
won a single against each other.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
Yeah, the trilogy. Yeah, revenge of.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
This like this feud. Honestly, I'm surprised none of us
said Drew McIntyre for Wrestler of the Year, because that's true.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
He did have some good moments.
Speaker 3 (54:36):
He had some good moments, he didn't have the gold
to show for it, which is kind of why I
picked Osprey.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
He technically did win a world title this year.
Speaker 3 (54:44):
Yeah, he won a world title for five minutes.
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Yeah, that's how long it took Priest to walk down
that ramp did. Oh my god, WrestleMania was so good
and I loved being in Philly with you guys for it.
That was We now move into best tag team.
Speaker 3 (55:09):
Guys, there was one correct answer here.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
So you want to kick this one off, Josh, what
is the correct answer?
Speaker 3 (55:16):
The correct answer is Phraxium.
Speaker 1 (55:19):
That's not who I picked. What, Kim?
Speaker 3 (55:23):
Would you pick?
Speaker 1 (55:23):
Real quick?
Speaker 2 (55:25):
I spent so long I was saying, I was like,
I don't know any tag teams.
Speaker 1 (55:29):
I feel so dumb.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
I ended up going with Stinging Darby Allen because I
was like, I gotta show some love to Sting here.
Speaker 1 (55:37):
I picked Private Party.
Speaker 3 (55:39):
All right, all right, I have a really funny if
one of you picked them x.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
M oh ship, yeah that would that would have been great.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
But I think Phraxium was far and away the best
tag team this year.
Speaker 1 (55:59):
Have some good moments, You're right.
Speaker 3 (56:01):
Especially like this last like recency bias. The last couple
of months were like they've had title defenses on the
same night that they've had singles matches.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Oh like it at deadline Deadline hop that match was good,
and then like yeah, catch.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
Crew and then like the next week they made Axiom
fight Oba but I think mm hmmm, and then defend
their tag titles later.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
Yeah, and they still want.
Speaker 3 (56:33):
Praxium is fine.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
Guys, they're cooking so good. I mainly went with Private
Party because they took the belts off of the Young Bucks.
Speaker 3 (56:43):
Absolutely, I have to I will, I will give you that.
Speaker 1 (56:45):
That is totally fair, and they're they're like a Day
one aw team, so they deserve it. I think it's
finally their moment to shine. Yeah, weird. They didn't have
the match at World's End, but they had the fatal
four way No I'm misremembering, never mind, but yeah, Private
Party was my pick. Almost went with the Outrunners, but
(57:08):
Private Yeah, the Youngest Men Alive, Turbo Floyd and Truth.
Speaker 3 (57:13):
Magnum Runners would have been a very good pick.
Speaker 1 (57:17):
If Private Party I was reading an article. The Young
Bucks originally wanted to lose the Tag Belts in a
squash match to the Outrunners, but then they pivoted to
putting the belts on private party.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
I would have been insane if the Outrunners squashed the
Young Bucks.
Speaker 2 (57:34):
That would have been absolutely insane.
Speaker 1 (57:36):
Because like the whole current iteration of the Elite lost
their titles except for Okata.
Speaker 3 (57:43):
What if they did, like what isn't the Casino gallt
where it's like, guys come out, but it's a pinfall
mm hmm, so like you could pin somebody before everybody
comes out. Yeah, would imagine if they did like that
kind of match for the Young Bucks and then the
(58:03):
hour Runners are the first out there and they just
pin them before the first team comes.
Speaker 1 (58:07):
Out crazy but popped so hard. Anyways, what have you
got next? What's bigger? What's like a tag team but
like more a faction, A fraction, A fraction of a
faction is a tag team. Okay, I also picked fraction.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
I did not. I'm gonna go with the Wyatt six
and I know things have kind of simmered down for
them recently, but just like going back and remembering the
build for them and how exciting that was. And I
really feel like we're we've still kind of get to
see them kind of like pop off storyline wise in
a big like pl environment. So I think that, Yeah,
(59:01):
so I'm gonna go with buy at six. And also
I just couldn't think of that many good factions either
this year.
Speaker 1 (59:09):
It's not the Judgment Day.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
It was not the Judgment Day because too much stuff
will happened, and it was not the Bloodline either. My faction,
uh really, because I want to give some love to
one of the best character workers in the business right now.
Uh my, my faction is the Final Testament.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
I was gonna say, I'm glad no one picked the
Final Testament as a joke and then you picked the
Final test I like, Okay.
Speaker 3 (59:40):
It sucks because truthfully, he does Cross doesn't need aop no.
But at the same time, like I don't know they
had they didn't really wrestle a whole lot. But at
the same time, like maybe it's recently biased, maybe it's not.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
I like.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
The idea that whoever they fight like, they turned that
they turned it like bad, they turned heel. So yeah,
I just I don't know that they're they're doing something
for me. Man, they're entertaining. I like watching Karen Cross. Dude,
he seems so cool, he seems so chill. Was pretty okay, Yeah, no,
(01:00:21):
I thought like, like I thought it was good for
what it was. I I kind of thought that that
Cross should have won and it would have given them
more momentum, especially now that like obviously the w W
we didn't know then, but like if Bobby was leaving,
Final Testament should.
Speaker 1 (01:00:40):
Have won, Like was that the last time we saw him?
Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
Yeah? No, okay, he was in the he was in.
There was a tournament between Many and Backlash to decide
that number one could tender for Cody's championship.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
Okay, yep, But.
Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
Like I feel like if you let Cross in the
Final Testament win in that match, as much as it
sucks for the ECW Originals, but that they brought out,
it would have been you know, bow shrip. I can't
think of a word just good basically for the Final Testament,
(01:01:16):
like going forward and.
Speaker 1 (01:01:17):
Then Bobby leaves.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Bobby leaves, and it doesn't matter for the Street profits.
They're gonna be over no matter what you do, Like
you needed to push the Final Testament because they weren't
getting anything. But like the interview with Cross with CBV
about that match, he was like, yeah, Bobby wanted to
get into a real fight backstage, like just throw hands
for real, and and I and Crosses like and I
(01:01:40):
just said to Bobby and like, Bobby, what if no
one breaks up the fight? Like it was so fun?
Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
So I just had to give some love. I think
what they're doing right now is really good.
Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
Seem what you got best faction is going to the
System from t NA.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
I thought they had strong years Moose as world champion,
Eddie and Brian as the tag team champions. At one
point they had the TNNA Knockouts Championships in the faction
because of militia. And then they added Dirty Johnny Curdy
formerly known as Don Dirty Dirty Danga. He's now called
(01:02:34):
Dirty Johnny Curty, you know, because he was Johnny Curtis
from n XT season two when it was a game show.
And then like Moose still being like the leader of
the System and he's ex division champion at the moment.
Kind of odd, but it's working. The match with Laredo
(01:02:59):
Kid at it was the final resolution whatever the show
at wrestle K was pretty good. But I went with
the System because they had that kick ass feud with
Nick Nammoth and the Hardys. They've been fighting with Joe Hendry.
They fought the ABC heel up feel Better, Chris Bay.
(01:03:20):
I thought it was a good year for TNA. I
really thought that the System played a big part in that.
Hell yeah, So next we are moving into favorite spot.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Favorite spot, Let's do.
Speaker 1 (01:03:36):
It Mine is, let's start us off.
Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Sam is a small one.
Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
It was a little a nice little thing I noticed
in a weekly television match.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
I'm intrigued.
Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
We brought them up in the favorite factions, the Wyatt six. Yeah,
the street fight against American made mm hm. When Eric
Rowan used the ringside barricade as the battering ram, that
was just like throwing the guy into it. He ripped
it out and was like using it as a weapon.
(01:04:14):
I just thought that was really cool.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Yeah, that's a nice new usage of something that has
kind of gotten stale.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
Yeah, like you can hip toss a guy into that
all you want. What You've never seen a dude pick
up the barricade and hit the dude with it exactly.
So I just thought that also was just cool because
to just show the savagery of what the Wyatt six
is in the new year, I hope we get to
see more of them, and definitely hopefully I should have
(01:04:44):
mentioned this when we were talking about the best factions.
But there is a it feels like, wwe should introduce
a trios title.
Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
It almost does, but at the same time, like that's.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
A lot of time, Like it's a a lot of belts,
it's a lot of belts, and there was so many
groups they.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
Have a lot of Like if they were to do
a trios title, they should have kept Judgment Day around.
Like there was a point earlier in the year. I
think it was shortly after Mania where it's just like
and I think I said it on the podcast, was like,
WWE needs a trios title, We need a faction belt,
Like Judgment Day was cooking. I thought that Bob, if
(01:05:27):
Bobby was gonna stay him in the Street the whatever
their group was called, the Pride, The Pride, Yeah, like
the Pride, the Final Testament. Now you get the Wide six.
Like LWO, you had a lot of trios that were
right there that you could have had a weekly television
fighting for a title, and instead, like you broke some
(01:05:50):
of the groups up. Yeah, you released a guy now,
it's just now. At this point, it's like it's kind
of hard to say there's enough trios to warrant it.
Maybe as a year goes on, will get like some
solidified things, because it's it almost seems like they're not
afraid to like listen to what fans want, and if
it gets pushed enough, like Triple H will get on
(01:06:14):
his burner, bro, and he'll see the see the see
the fans.
Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
It'd be cool. So I think it would be really cool,
even like the recent group of like Priests and the
Viking Raiders. Yeah, you could put him on a tournament.
Also shout out to the Viking Raiders with the Jacks
Dane memorial armbands. The other night on Wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
Oh Ship.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
I don't think I caught that.
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Jack Dane wrestled, wrestled for the nw A and he
unfortunately passed away from a heart attack recently, but he
was He's a big old dude, big strong guy. Yeah,
pretty cool, sad moments and it was cool to see
on Monday night raw. I guess the Raiders and him
were in a faction before they came to w w A.
(01:07:08):
That's that's a good touch, a nice touch. But h Josh,
why don't you give us your favorite spot?
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
My friend, I am hitting some aw here. There's a
little bit of backstory to this spot. So Will Ospray
fought Brian Danielson earlier.
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
In the year at Dynasty.
Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
At Dynasty and Ospray one of his moves is the
tiger driver. Oh, and he hit the tiger driver on
Danielson and kind of messed him up. Like it Naos's
neck was messed up to begin with, but like he
(01:07:57):
did kind of actually injure Danielson here to it for
the point and for the next months, a couple mon
however long it was after this, he would not use
that move. He refused to use that move out of
respect for Brian Danielson because he he loves Brian Danielson.
And we get a nice backstage moment. I think it
(01:08:20):
was one of the TV shows just before all In
and MGF has been, you know, kicking the crap out
of Osprey, and Danielsen comes up to Ospray backstage and says,
use it, use the move. So it all in. He's going,
(01:08:41):
he's thinking about it. He can't pull the trigger. And
then finally finally at the end of the match, he's
gonna do it, and when he does the Tiger Driver,
he shouts Tiger Driver. Well, the entire stadium of Wembley,
everybody in attendant screamed Tiger Driver with him.
Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
I just thought that was so cool.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
That is awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
That's pretty bad ass.
Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
So that's my spot I thought. I thought that was really.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
Fun, very cool.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
All right, I will wrap it up for this one.
So I was trying to think, like obviously, like when
you think of like a spot, like you got cool
spots where it's like something high flying, you know, you
think like anything from Eyo Sky, whenever there's a cage involved,
like especially the Survivor series, you could think like a
(01:09:32):
ladder match, like with Chelsea Green getting pushed off from
the top and going through the tables. So you got
cool spots like that. You got crazy, like what the
hell kind of spots like Darby Allen going through the
glass with his UH during his tag match with Sting,
anything from the Hangman Swerve match all out. You've got
(01:09:54):
cinematic spots like some of the openings during UH, like
Drew's feud with CM Punk, like during Raw or they
would just be like emerging from backstage like having like
beat each other up. Like there's one of like the
like kind of garage door going up for the stadium
(01:10:15):
and you just see Drew McIntire just holding like Cempunk's
body just like wheeling it in. That was a cool
cinematic spot. There's you know, Cody getting whipped by the
rock leading up to WrestleMania. So there's a lot of
spots like that, But I would have to go with
my favorite spot being a more story driven spot, which
(01:10:36):
happened at WrestleMania during the main event of Night two.
There was a lot going on there, a lot of
people coming out, a lot of stuff happening. Obviously, the
main focus for it was is Cody going to be
able to finish his story? Is Cody going to be
able to overcome like rum and reins and finally get
like this title. And there's a lot of stuff going on,
(01:10:58):
a lot of people coming in. One of the moments
that happened with seth Rons, who was, you know, telling
Cody I've got you back. Seth Rons comes in to
the Shield entrance through the crowd very much through Roman Reigns,
you know, off of his off of his course from
there caught him off guard because very famously Seth Rons
(01:11:22):
had betrayed Roman Reigns when they were in the Shield
faction together kind of killed the group that way. So
Roman Reigns caught off guard. Seth comes in. I forget
who takes Seth out. It might have been maybe it
was Solo, I can't fully remember, but when Seth was,
(01:11:46):
you know, laid out at the side of the ring,
Roman at one point had a chance to hit Cody
with a chair and kind of finish off the match,
but he couldn't let his you know, memory of how
Seth had betrayed him, he couldn't let that go, so
he swung the steel chair at Seth instead, and that
(01:12:08):
ultimately ended up costing Roman the match. Causcodi was able
to hit his finish on him. So that whole sequence,
especially the spot of just seeing Roman, you know, kind
of coming full circle, like hanging onto all of this
bitterness from throughout the years, kind of seeing all that
played out, like all of the little like breadcrumb pieces
(01:12:29):
that they had, like everything kind of meshing together. That
was just really cool to see. So I'd have to
go with that as my favorite spot and thank you
for letting me ramble for so long. Oh good man,
that was great, Thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:12:45):
Next up, we're moving into the final four Awards.
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Favorite Moment, Favorite Moment wants to start?
Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
Why don't you start as off this time?
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Yeah, Josh, So.
Speaker 3 (01:13:04):
I have a lot of moments this year that I
really enjoyed, and you know we've touched on it already.
How we have spent time together watching uh WrestleMania and
we went to the Collective and Sam and I we
saw dream On from g c W. Yeah, however, I
(01:13:26):
I love you guys, but I went and saw Monday
Night Raw with my brother and it was really cool.
Hell yeah, and I think so the moment of the
night from that uh Monday Night Raw is Bronson Reid
murdered Seth Rawbins killed him. Yeah, so where Jake and
(01:13:51):
I are in the background of that, like throwing the
throwing him jumping for the top row like there's clean
this day picture of Jake and I stay there and
him like minute Brasse read midair. But yeah, that that
was cool to go see that with with him when
he was very reluctant to go and then had a
(01:14:13):
great time.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
Yeah, but that was just so good.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
And like I was warming up to Bronson Reid. I
did not like him his his character when he first
came up from NXT and and was kind of poking
around trying to get a world title match or whatever.
Hated it. Now this brose and read character is so good.
And this was what started it, dude, Like, what a
(01:14:38):
what a moment, what a moment to witness live?
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
Hell yeah, that's badass, see me want to go next.
Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
So my like sentimental wrestling moment thing was going to
the Collective you too, Yeah, hell yeah, cat that trip
to Philly with you guys doing the Collective, the Hall
of Fame, SmackDown WWE World, getting the door dash and
(01:15:13):
eating it in a hotel, watching WrestleMania.
Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
So much, such a great weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
We got Canes when we first got there.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
We got King's Baby.
Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Yeah, we went to Canes. We walked through the mall.
That that mall was liminal space. It was that mall
was the back rooms.
Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
It was.
Speaker 1 (01:15:39):
Oh, it was bizarre. And then there was that weird
interaction with the woman in the Barns of Noble and Yeah,
but like televised wrestling moment, I went with was the
debut of the WYAT six nice the one painting you
were that was the same night.
Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
It's the same night. Well shit, yeah, so cool, So
that that was.
Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
I was so excited you were there live for that, dude,
they were. I was like, Josh was there, guys.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
Like, It's crazy. How good the Monday night raws after
the pls were like most especially that stretch for the
Big Three. Yeah, they were all good, Like after the Roll,
after Man Roll, after SummerSlam the best.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Yeah. So so we're moving into our final three awards
of the episode Breakout Star, sneaking suspicions. Some of us
might have the same answer.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
For this, I'm in trade to see yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:16:56):
Red Fire Tim hit us with yours.
Speaker 2 (01:17:00):
I went with soul Ruca.
Speaker 1 (01:17:03):
Okay, I feel like choice.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
I feel like there, I don't remember anything at all
from her in twenty thirteen, and I feel like I've
been oh, yes, but.
Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
I don't think you're watching wrestling that year.
Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
Yeah, Like, I don't remember a lot of her from
twenty twenty three, and I feel like I've been seeing
her in a lot more stuff this past year, and
it's been really cool to see her wrestle because she
has such a cool like move. The soul Snatcher so
cool to watch. So yeah, that's why I went with her.
Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
Who'd you pick? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:17:47):
Can I go last?
Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
Okay, I'll say mine. I went with Heck yeah, I
thought his yea tal run was awesome. I'm excited to
see if he takes the bet off a Trick at
New Year's Email. I think Eddie Thorpe is in that
match because they don't want Trick to take the pinfall probably,
(01:18:10):
and then Trick will go to the main roster most likely.
Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
Nice, all right, right, I need to hear the dogs
barking for this one. Oh baby, I got broad breaker. Baby,
he was a scar from NXT and I get it.
Maybe it's not a breakout breakout, but he is the main.
(01:18:37):
He is the main roster breakout come up in the
innercent title as fast as he did and to be
as over as he is. Two time champ.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Baby, he's got the ability to like to back up
like all the hype too.
Speaker 1 (01:18:59):
It's just a babies.
Speaker 3 (01:19:00):
It's a freak athlete. That's okay. At least he's a good.
Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Baby, very true.
Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
He contributes to society in a positive one exactly so
none of us had the same answer.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
Crazy you Oh shit.
Speaker 1 (01:19:19):
Now we're going into the best feud.
Speaker 3 (01:19:24):
I think there's two answers here, one from each company.
Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
Yeah, okay, I'll go with the w W one Seampunk
versus Drew McIntire.
Speaker 3 (01:19:34):
Absolutely, that's what I also had.
Speaker 6 (01:19:38):
Ye.
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
Yeah, I think like there matches where I think all
three of them are on pay per views, right yep,
like the three big ones, and like they were all
like phenomenal quality wise, and they just kept getting better
as well.
Speaker 3 (01:19:55):
Just all just all world they were just so good.
I think that the feud of the year for ae
W was Swerve and.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
Hangman definitely, absolutely, and that like and like the whole
thing about both of the feuds as well, was like
at at its corey they could have just like like
the feud from a W and the feud from WW,
like they could just be boiled down to like these
guys like hate each other. But I feel like the
ae W one they presented it in like a much
(01:20:30):
more like insane like visceral way just to do to
like how it like built and got like more actually
right exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
Like they burnt down a house, Yes, a man burnt
down Swerve's childhood home.
Speaker 1 (01:20:47):
Right, remember any photo of his family to his face? Yeah,
that was.
Speaker 3 (01:20:54):
But then like on the other side, you've got Drew
beating Pump to Paul twice.
Speaker 6 (01:21:02):
Right, first in Chicago, his hometown of places, and then.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
A second time wherever where he broke the bracelet and
shoved the beads down Punk's throat.
Speaker 6 (01:21:15):
Yea, Punk was bleeding from the mouth. So great year,
great year for haters facts.
Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
So the final award of the episode.
Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
This is a great one to end of this is
so good. Flop of the year, baby.
Speaker 1 (01:21:41):
Ten, drop your flop right now?
Speaker 3 (01:21:46):
WHOA, I don't think that's PG.
Speaker 2 (01:21:50):
We're on my flop, baby. My flop of the year
is Gable Stevenson. Dude came in WW was ready to
build him as the next. Kurt Angle came in, had
one TV match, got booed so badly that they cut
him additionally, you know, due to a lot of like
(01:22:13):
essay allegation stuff, so cut for good reason as well.
But man, that guy went on. The guy was ready
to go big and then immediate flop.
Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
This year?
Speaker 3 (01:22:30):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
What's that.
Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
Year?
Speaker 3 (01:22:34):
Was that? This year? I thought it was?
Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
I think so yeah, great American Mash.
Speaker 1 (01:22:41):
Wasn't that his only match? Baron Corbyn?
Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
I think so?
Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
Yeah, a little no contest.
Speaker 3 (01:22:48):
Yeah, yeah, bad.
Speaker 1 (01:22:52):
I'm not gonna say it again, but Josh, what was
your flop?
Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
My flop of the year is not a wrestler, but
it is also a moment.
Speaker 4 (01:23:01):
Oh the king of botches one Tongo Loa.
Speaker 3 (01:23:15):
Was supposed to pull the ref out of the ring
to stop a pinfall, and Homeboy was late and almost missed.
The ref had to basically throw himself out of the ring.
You could literally see the ref start pushing himself out
of the ring because Togaloa couldn't get out from another
ring and then got caught on the apron Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1 (01:23:39):
And then low blow where he just bumped the guy
in the top of the head.
Speaker 3 (01:23:43):
Yeah, he went to low blow ko and he just yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:23:53):
Oh my goodness, that's funny. Yeah. My flop of the
year Jade Cargills. Wwe run so far?
Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
Yeah, she's not crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
I mean it's she's fallen victim to the poor booking
of the Tag division.
Speaker 1 (01:24:13):
Also, I don't think she was as ready as they
thought she.
Speaker 2 (01:24:17):
Was, and they take her a lot of time as well,
yes they did. Between like knowing that they signed her
and her actually appearing, it was like a couple of months.
Speaker 1 (01:24:26):
Yeah yeah, and like she was in the rumble. But
then other than that, they like pulled her from all
her big things. She didn't progress that far in the
Queen of the Ring. She got pulled from the war games,
you know, yeah, yeah, yoh, maybe twenty twenty five will
be better. But who wasn't ready as I think they
(01:24:51):
thought she was.
Speaker 6 (01:24:52):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:24:54):
Maybe it's just because it's so simple, but it still flows.
But like, I don't I don't see how bad she
Like there are times where it is very awkward, but
it's not like she's unsafe or.
Speaker 1 (01:25:09):
Like, yeah, super slow, Like some of her.
Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
Pump kicks that she does, they're a little bit like
they don't time up correctly mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
But like other than that, and I'm trying to remember too,
I feel like a lot of those awkward moments moments
have also come during like tag matches, where it can
be a lot to like track like what everyone is
doing and making sure everyone's like hitting their marks and everything.
Like I feel like we haven't really seen her in
(01:25:40):
any you know, like singles.
Speaker 3 (01:25:43):
