Getting Re-Familiar:
So, for those of you that are viewing this podcast for the first time let me tell you, are in for a treat, because Rocco here out of all the amazing young prospects that we've interviewed over the years holds the title for our most viewed Prospect Watch Show. And, for good reason. Rocco is a 16-year-old Hockey Prodigy that was born and raised in the state of NJ. And, last time we talked to him (about 9-10 months ago now) he had just finished his 14U season at Mount Saint Charles Academy where he scored an incredible 87 GOALS, AND 83 ASSISTS FOR 170 POINTS! That helped him win a National Championship. Now, after hearing those kind of stats. It should come as no surprise to hear that this young man and his team just managed to run it back again winning his second National Championship this time in the 15U age bracket. Where he managed to net an astonishing 65 goals and 75 assists for 140 points during the regular season for an average of 2.3 points-per-game.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Warning, prospect Watch is not your average hockey podcast, and
that's okay with us. Our goal is to introduce you
to stars in the making from all over the world.
They may not be household names yet, but we assure
you they will be soon enough. Welcome to prospect Watch,

(00:47):
Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to prospect Watch with your host
Land's Green.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
All right, guys, hello, and welcome back to prospect Watch,
a podcast that focuses only on the discovery and promotion
of some of the best young talent in the game
today from all reaches of the world. As my old
crony Steel just said, I'm your host, land Screen, and
today we are lucky enough to bring back a good
friend of the show, a mister Roco Pelosi. Roco, first off,

(01:18):
thank you for agreeing to come back and congrats on
quite another fine season.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
No, thank you, guys, and thank you guys for having
me back on.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
It's it's always a pleasure to have another great friend
of the show on in. Roco, thank you very much
for being on the show here, man, so we really
appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Thank you, Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
All right, So we usually call it getting familiar, but
let's call it getting refamiliar, all right. So for those
of you that are viewing this podcast for the first time,
let me tell you you're in for a treat because
Rocko here, out of all the amazing young prospects we've
entered view over the years, holds the title for our

(02:05):
most viewed show ever.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
So that's pretty big deal considering all the great young
prospects we have on here, and it's for good reason
because Roco is now a sixteen year old hockey prodigy
that was born and raised in the state of New Jersey,
where we cover most professional teams around the area. And

(02:30):
last time we talked to him about nine or ten
months ago, he had just finished his fourteen U season
at Mount Saint Charles Academy, where he scored an incredible
eighty seven goals and eighty three assists for one hundred
and seventy points. All right, not too shabby by any means.
That amount of points helped him to win a national championship. Now,

(02:56):
fast forwarding, a whole nother season has last and this
young managed man has managed to run it back yet
again to win another national championship, this time in the
fifteen U age bracket where he managed to net an
astounding sixty five goals seventy five assists for one hundred

(03:18):
and forty points during the regular seasons. Folks, that averages
out to two point three points per game.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
But still I'm not done, all right? Wait now that
averages out to gaudy yea gody numbers. Right, Yeah, I
like it.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
I like it, but still I'm not done. All right.
After winning his second national championship, right, Rocco found out
just a few days ago, a little bit longer maybe
that he was lucky enough to make the US National
Development's U seventeen teams. So, uh, congre, that's for you.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
We're on that, sir, thank you, thank you?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
All right?

Speaker 1 (04:05):
That is so awesome man, congratulations sir.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah. So so Steve, why don't we get into asking
this young man some questions?

Speaker 1 (04:13):
I mean, you know, before you bust out of your skin. Right,
he's a bit excited. I mean, can you tell a
little bit, right, just a little okay? All right, here
we go. So, now we're into your second season here
with Mount Charles, and how did it compare with last season? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
I think it was very similar, just because we brought
back so many guys and had a lot of that
core group back from last year's national championship, so you know,
it kind of gave us a lot of.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
I wouldn't say.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Motivation, but like kind of motivated us to you know,
go back to back and you know, we had a
target on back all year and you know, we we
we love that, honestly, we we love being the top
dog and everybody coming after us. But yeah, it kind
of provided us with a lot of motivation, and.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah, we love that.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Okay. So I mean you kind of knew what to
expect and a little bit more prepared for this year.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Okay, all right, all right, so let's talk about the
Nationals for a minute, because User had quite a tournament,
scoring eight goals and four assists for twelve points and
only six games played. But your your perhaps your best game,
let's say, was your the semi final game against the

(05:42):
little Caesars team where you had a hat trick.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Right, can you talk to us.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
About you know that game and how it may have
boosted your confidence heading back into the big game on
you know that Sunday.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
Yeah, I mean that was the team we wanted to
see all year, right, we we haven't we had a
good battle with them in Florida last year.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
I think we we won five to one, maybe, but
there it was a lot of fights and stuff like that,
you know, chippy game.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
We knew they were a good team.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
We were we were second in the country, they were third,
and you know, we we see them doing good in
the HL Cup, which is you know, a great league,
and yeah, so that's that's the game we wanted all year.
And you know, we knew we had to come out flying,
and that's that's exactly what we did. I think we
scored two goals and back to back shifts like five

(06:31):
minutes into the game, which was a great start for us.
And you know, we kind of we kind of kept
our foot on the gas there and we didn't let up,
and you know, we were fortunate enough to get the
win there.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Yeah. Okay, well so then let me ask you a
question then, So, what what did coach say there? Uh,
in between that intermission there and overtime? Do you guys,
what did he say that in the final game you
mean the final game there? Yeah, what did he say
there to you guys?

Speaker 4 (07:03):
He he kinda he kind of just let uh let
us handle it, you know, he he knew all the
x's and o's were, we're out of the out of
the question, and it was it was just gonna come
down to who wanted it more. You know, we had
experience in national finals before, we've been there, but we
have also been to overtime in the national finals, which
gave us a huge advantage.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
So yeah, I think he kind of led it up
to us.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
He you know, he told us to stay loose and
all that, and you know, don't get too too amped
up and too nervous. Yeah, we we knew we were
gonna win the game. We were we were the better team,
and we were not going to let that slip away
from us.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
There you go, there you go, right.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Okay, So this season you got to play in some
NHL teams practice facilities like the Penguins Lemieux Sports Complex
and the Panthers Ice Den. Have you put much thought
into the fact that one day those rinks or rinks
similar to those might be your every day practice facility,

(08:08):
Like that's pretty it's pretty amazing to get to be
in those facilities and you know, potentially be there every day.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
You know, Yeah, No, it's it's definitely awesome being there.
And seeing all the you know, the alumni on the
walls and all the great players that have been through there.
But you know, I don't think I've put too much
thought into it yet, just because I'm so young and
I got a long way to go before I even
get there. So yeah, but it's something you always think
about a little bit, you know, because that's your dream

(08:37):
growing up, like so hockey. But yeah, I haven't put
too much thought into it as to where I'm going
to be or where I want to be.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Okay, I mean, you know you, I think you nailed
it on the head there with the fact that you
are so young and you still have it all there
right in front of you, you know what I mean.
So you know, mm hmm, does it feel a little
weird knowing that with the season being over and you
knew you now moving on to Team USA, that you'll

(09:09):
no longer be playing with guys like Scuderi, who's you know,
been on your wing since before you two came into
mount and now mayby forced to play against him next
season seeing he's set to join the Rough Raiders or
Riders of the USHL.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
Yeah, it was definitely definitely pretty tough leaving that locker
room after the game. But yeah, I was pretty emotional,
but you know, we we ended exactly how I wanted to.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
And yeah, it was tough.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
It was tough leaving my guys there, but you know,
we're we're all on to bigger and better things and
I'm sure we're gonna meet somewhere down the road. But
you know, seeing the names on that and tep roster,
like I've grew up, I've grown up playing against a
lot of those guys before, so we're all familiar with
each other. So it's gonna be it's gonna be a
good year, and it's gonna we're gonna settle in nice.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
All right.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Well, speaking of that that roster, you know, it looks
like you're gonna have a couple of names, uh that
that you're gonna be taken with you from Mount you know,
Braden Christian and uh Nathaniel. I'll go in to Team
USA with you, And you know that's great, But some
of those other players, who who are some of those

(10:27):
other guys that may possibly be new linemates for you
that you're you're most looking forward to, you know, practicing
and playing with every day.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Yeah, I mean I could go on about everybody you know,
but it's an all Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
Yeah, you see these guys on social media everywhere, but
you don't really know how good they are until you
see them in camp and stuff. But yeah, the whole
team's gonna be unbelievable. I mean, we've got a great
group of guys, and you know, I think I'd I'd
be pretty content with playing with just about everybody on
that team, you know what.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
I would be in good hands, as would they.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure, yeah, you know. I mean, you're
you're the You're the type of player where you make
other players around you better because of how you open
up play, how you your vision and how you see
the ice and the passes and and the plays that
you're able to make. So I mean, I think they'll
be just as happy to play with you as well,

(11:31):
So you know. Okay, So all right, you've been back home, right,
gonna be returning home here, seasons all returning and everything
coming back home. What's the first home cooked meal that
you've requested?

Speaker 3 (11:52):
I like a good steak.

Speaker 4 (11:55):
I think my mom makes good steak and steak and
potatoes and we'll bit of asparagus.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Okay, Now, what kind of steak.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
I'm a filet guy.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Oh okay, I love it. I love it all right?
A right, and now how do you like it? Cooked?

Speaker 3 (12:11):
Medium?

Speaker 1 (12:12):
All right? All right, that's respectable. That's respectable.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
At least it's not like a hockey puck, you know,
it's you know, right, yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Right, yeah, you got.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Right?

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Okay, awesome. Mm hmmm.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
So I want to know, is there one thing, above
anything else that you hope to get out of playing
with Team USA? I mean, obviously that's an honor and
walking into that facility as you know, you know, there's
just as many faces and names and everything else around

(12:51):
there that have walked those halls and now playing at
you know, the NHL and HL levels and stuff like that.
What what are you really hoping to get at a
Team USA and to help you in your career?

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (13:05):
I think you know a lot of people are going
to talk about, you know, being drafted or you know,
committing to d one, But you know, something that goes
untalked about is you know the amount of discipline that
they teach you, you know, because that's gonna not only.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Help you as a hockey player, but help you as
a person in life. You know, just teaching you.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
You know, not everything is handed to you got to
work for everything, and you know, I think that's a
big thing, being able to have discipline because then it
makes you work harder and you push everybody else around you.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
Yeah, that's that's a good way to and that's I
think that's a good way to approachings. And I think
getting to be part of that program is also very
very special honor for you as well. So that's a
huge congratulations for you. Man. Sure. Yeah, man, if it's
even possible that you can improve upon anything this past season,

(14:03):
and is there anything you need to work on this summer?

Speaker 3 (14:05):
I mean seriously, yeah, there's plenty to keep me busy.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
But I think, you know, just like I said last year,
I think, you know, the skating is my biggest thing
because you know, every every level you get to, it
is just gonna keep getting faster and faster and all
these guys. You know, the skill is going to be there,
but you know, the skating and the physicality is going
to be the biggest thing which sets people apart. So
I think, yeah, just keep working on all that stuff

(14:32):
and you know the rest will teach itself.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah. Man, so far, so good. Right, lamps.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Yeah, I mean I think he I think he hit
the nail on the head there. Every every league you
go up, it's bigger, stronger, and faster and you know,
enabled to be able to play in that. You know,
even if you're the most talented offensive player, you gotta
you gotta be able to you know, survive out there.
And you know, I think you know, Team US is

(15:00):
going to get him there for sure, and you know,
his talents got him there, but like he said that,
that team is just going to to build him up
not only as a player but as a man and
get him ready for that, you know, whatever the next
level life comes out that in life altogether, because they

(15:21):
just produced some amazing, amazing young talents year after year
coming out of that program. So, you know, such a
great opportunity and you know, Raka, we can't wait to
see where you go from here. As we said, you know,
after last season. So you know, congrats on everything this

(15:42):
year and we can't wait to see what happens next.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
I appreciate you guys. Thank you guys.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Yeah, all right, all right, all right, I'll tell you
what here, man, folks, I gotta tell you if you
like what we do please hit the like and subscribe.
We would really appreciate that. We also would really like
to say thank you to Roco for hopping on the
show here man, and also a huge congratulations for second

(16:09):
championship in a row and for being named to the
United States Development Team. Congratulations Roco, and thank you for
joining us.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Thank you guys for having me.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
I'm glad it you got it Lance. I'll tell you what, Man,
I think we got a really good one here. And
the fact that we're able to continue to watch this
young phenom grow and just get better and better and
his hockey IQ is off the charts. He makes everybody
else around him better. You gotta go check him out. Man,

(16:42):
can't wait to see you play in the United States
Development Team. So thank you very much for that. Thank
you Lance for all you do. I'm your co host
