Warning, prospect Watch is not your average hockey podcast, and
that's okay with us. Our goal is to introduce you
to stars in the making from all over the world.
They may not be household names yet, but we assure
you they will be soon enough. Welcome to prospect Watch,

(00:46):
Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the next episode of prospect
Watch with your host Landscreen.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
All right, guys, this is prospect Watch, like Steele said,
a podcast that focuses solely on the discovery promotion of
some of the best young talent in the game today
from all reaches of the world. I'm your host, Lance
Green and Stele. I think we got a pretty good
guest joining us today.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
When you say, oh yeah, we're getting a head start
on the twenty twenty future future and we got a
special one here for you today, folks, Lance, why don't
you tell the folks all about who we got sitting
in here today.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
All right, so today we have none other than the
us hl's rookie sensation, Tynan Lawrence from the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Tynan,
how are you? And thank you so much for joining
us today.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
I'm good, Thank you for having me.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yes, sir, all right, guys, So if you are not
familiar with this young man or his game, let me
catch you up real quick. Tynan is a sixteen year
old center who is currently leading his team and points
and is going to be eligible for the twenty twenty
six NHL Draft.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
He exhibits an offensive prowess that few his age right
now have, especially playing at the at the junior level
that he's on. He has sixteen goals and twenty assists
this year for thirty six points and thirty nine games
played so far this season. But he's also able to

(02:28):
demonstrate good awareness and understanding of the defensive side of
the game as well. So Steve, let's not hold this
off anymore. Man, Let's get some questions going.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Okay, Tynan?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
You ready, Yeah, I'm ready to go.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
All right, man, here we go. How did it? How
did playing at Shaddock Saint Mary's help make the transition
to play for the USHILD this season? For you? How
did that work for you?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Help me out? Lot.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Actually run the ice like every day, which is isn't
normal for all programs, but we run the ice every day,
We're in the gym almost every day. We're playing like
sixty some games a year, which is quite similar to
a junior hockey schedule.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
So I think that helped me a lot.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Okay, awesome, yeah, man.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
So as far as where you were going to play
this season, I know you had a couple of different options.
So tell me how did a kid from New Brunswick,
Canada decide it was in his best interest to sign
with the USHL and a tender agreement, you know, with
the Lumberjacks.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
I think I was already used to living away from
home from going to Shattuck for two years, so that
wasn't really a big worry. And this Kegan's a great organization.
When they came to talk to me, I liked everything
about it. There just got into a locker room that's
really nice. So that made it even easier decision. And
we're a good team this year.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
So yeah, I would say so, yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
So that made your decision pretty easy then, huh yeah. Okay,
before we get too far into this interview here, and
we know we heard Lance talk a little bit about
some of the stats and everything, but maybe if you
could give us the name of a player in the
NHL currently or in the past that either inspired you

(04:22):
to play this game or maybe somebody somebody that you
model your game after.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
I think growing up it's been Sydney Crosby.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
I feel like I've always watched him growing up, but
recently I've been liking a watch Mac and Celebrini. He's
a really good player right now and works really hired.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
So that's some pretty lofty company there. I'd say, what
do you think.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Lance, Yeah, I mean one's got a couple of Stanley
Cup rings and the other ones fighting for Rookie of
the Year this year. So yeah, that's pretty good guys
to look.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Up to, right, I would have to agree. I'd have
to agree, all right.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
So let's talk international tournaments now for a minute. Tell
us what was it like to get to play for
your home country in the Youth Olympic Games, And I
think that was in Korea. Yeah, yeah, and the end
of the U seventeen World Hockey Challenge.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
South three is really finals good experience.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
I've never been in an Asia before, so just that
whole thing we live in the Olympic village, playing against
Sweden and all those cleams like Finland. I think we
played us so it was a good experience and I
think it made it a little easier for US at
U seventeen because we had a lot of returners on
that team, and I felt like after we lost in Korea,
we had to had to win you seventeens and then

(05:38):
we did a job, all.

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Right, for sure, man, for sure, And those were some
really really good games to me, you know, to get
your feet wet in the international stage, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
So what do you feel is your strongest attribute right
now and maybe perhaps one that you maybe need to
work on.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
I think my strongest hat to do is my speed.
I'm good in transition, Like I feel like I'm a quick,
fast player that likes to I think can go up
and down the ice pretty quickly.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
What I have to work on I always work on
my shot.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
I feel like that's like something you can always perfect
and like you never you're never as good as you
think you are when you're shot, and you can always
do better with it.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
There you go, Are you doing the Sydney Crosby and
you are you denting up a dryer somewhere?

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Oh no, we got we got mats up the rink.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Okay, all right, so you're just denting up goalies then?

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Right?

Speaker 3 (06:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, sorry Lance?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Uh you know, yeah, it's it's expected, yea.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
All right.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
So upon joining the Lumberjacks, was there any player that
you seem to have like an instant chemistry with or
kind of you know, one that might have took you
under their wing and kind of showed you around the play?

Speaker 3 (07:00):
Not really.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
I feel like when I came here, I didn't really
know anyone, Like everyone was pretty new. But our whole team, like,
we have a good environment in the dressing room, so
I'm pretty close with a lot of guys.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
It was They're very welcoming and it was easy to
fit in here.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
You kind of felt it was a pretty easy transition
then to come in right, yeah. Okay. So now in
a lifetime, a long time ago, I used to be
a professional chef, and I like to ask, what is
your one meal from back home that maybe your dad
mom made that you really miss And what is one

(07:36):
meal that maybe, say your billet family makes for you
that you find yourself asking for over and over.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
My billet family to make good salmon here. I don't
know why salmon rice. Recently I've been liking.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Them a lot.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
Okay, yeah, and then back home, my mom makes these
like protein pancakes, which is like pancakes, but they're like
healthier for you.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
So I mean, like I like those when I go home.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
So like what's in those pancakes? Like what do you
mean healthier for you?

Speaker 4 (08:04):
Like something normal pancake mix, and it's just like it
comes with like a protein powdern inside of it already.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Oh that's a heck of a way to you know,
get a jump on the day and head to the rink.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Yeah yeah, I mean talk about carbon protein up all
in one shot.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
All right, all right, So I've read back in August
that you committed to playing for the recent bean Pot
champions Boston University. Can you tell us how you came
to settle on them over all the other teams that
were out there.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
I toured there, I visited there, their rink. I mean
it's a great facility, like their whole rank. It's a
great atmosphere. Like you're right in Boston, like you got
a lot of a lot of things to do just
outside hockey. But they have a great hockey program. Their
coach is really good. They have a coach, j Pandalpho.
He's a player coach, so he's been there and like
done that. So was he his experienced. I feel like

(09:01):
that helps helps a lot picking there, and they have
great players coming through it, for sure.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Well that's that's the way pretty close one. Yeah, for sure,
they got a lot of good players coming out of
that one. And man, I'll tell you what. In fact,
it's kind of funny that because I was just watching
the championship of the bean Pot there, you know, and
it's it's a very uh it's a very prestigious award.
Did they get to have there? And uh, hopefully we'll

(09:30):
get to see you playing in that real soon, you
know what I mean? M Right? So now my last
question for you, Ton, and if you weren't playing hockey,
what other sport would you be.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
Playing growing up?

Speaker 4 (09:44):
I'd say soccer, But recently I've been golfing a lot
last couple of summers, so I'm not playing hockey.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
I've been on the course.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Okay, So what kind of clubs you swinging?

Speaker 3 (09:56):
I'm not I think sim two's right now, okay to
Max's Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
I like okay? And and are you do you carry
a handicap or you just just go out there that? No?

Speaker 3 (10:06):
I do my handicaps around seven, seven or eight. It's
pretty good.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Yeah, that's that's pretty good. Man. Oh yeah, all right,
Well I'll tell you what, folks, Man, we got a
really good one here for you today, Folks. Tynan Lawrence
