Our goal is to introduce you to stars in the making from all over the world. They may not be household names yet but we assure you they will be soon enough.

Welcome to Prospect Watch a Pod Cast that focuses solely on the discovery and promotion of some of the best young talent in the game today from all reaches of the world.

As Steel said, I'm your Host Lance Green and I have the pleasure tonight of introducing you to a
talented young man by the name Zaac Charbonneau who plays for and attends Mount Saint Charles Academy.

Getting Familiar:
Now, for those of you that may not yet be familiar with this 15-year-old Phenom let me "Get You Familiar". Zaac who will not be available to be drafted by an NHL Team until the 2028 Draft,
is a Canadian Born forward who at just 15 years old already stands at 6'1 and 185 pounds. And the reason Zacc popped up on my radar this year, while playing 14U AAA Hockey is that he started scoring goals this season in bunches. So, much so that in just 58 regular season games played this year he was able to light the lamp a jaw dropping 85 times this season! Not to mention Steel Zaac putting up an incredible 168 total points on the season, which if you do the math equates to him scoring nearly three points a game on average!

If you ask me Steel no one in the country in his age bracket was more dominate out on the ice. He
looked like a Man playing amongst boys. And I can't wait to see what he is able to do next season.

Speaker 2 (00:32):

Speaker 3 (00:52):
All right, guys, welcome back to the latest edition of
prospect Watch, a podcast that focuses solely on the discovery
and promotion of some of the best young talent in
the game today from.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
All reaches of the world.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
As Steele said, I'm your host, Lance Green, and I
have the pleasure tonight of introducing you to a talented
young man by the name of Zach Charboneau who plays
and attends Mount Saint Charles Academy. All right, Zach, how
are you. First off, thank you so much for being

(01:25):
on the show tonight.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Yeah, I'm good. Thank you. Yeah, it's an under of
the year. We're gonna have fun.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Thank you. Awesome, We certainly are.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
We appreciate you hopping on, love the colors, love you
spreading out there. Yeah, man, that's good. Okay, all right,
all right, Lance is gonna get us familiar with you
and our viewers just to kind of let everybody know
what's going on. Lance, let everybody know about this young
man or.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
So, guys, let's get familiar real quick with this young man.
For those of you that may not be familiar with
this fifteen year old phenom.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Let me get you familiar.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Zach, who will not be available to be drafted by
an NHL team until the year twenty twenty eight, is
a Canadian born forward who had just fifteen years old,
already stands at six foot one and one hundred and
eighty five pounds.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Stele's that's NHL size already.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
All right, you know, all right, fifteen at fifteen, you know,
and he plays our kind of game too, right.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
Yeah, yeah, it gets better. Let me get into that.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
And the reason Zach popped up on the radar this
year for us on the show is while playing for
the fourteen U Triple A hockey team that is up
in mount.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
He started scoring in bunches this.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Season, right, Stell, just yeah, yeah, so much so that
in just fifty eight regular season games played this year,
he was able to light the lamp a jaw dropping
eighty five times this season, right, not to mention steal,
Zach put up an incredible one hundred and sixty eight
total points. So that means he can score any capacity

(03:09):
to all right, right, right's right? So guys, if you
do the math on that, that means he was scoring
nearly three points a game, all right, on average.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
That's pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
If you ask me, I'll take all day long.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
Yeah yeah, yeah, so if you ask me, still no
one in this country yet his age, Brack is more
dominant right now.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Out on the ice.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
He looked like a man this year playing against boys,
and I can't wait to see what he's able to
do next season.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
So let's get some questions asked to this young man.
Man I'm getting. I'm ready to go, Steve, what about you?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
You're ready? All right? Okay, yeah, let's let's get let's
get some of them flying here. Are you ready, Zach?

Speaker 6 (03:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Right, okay, all right, we boosted you up a little
bit here now you know. So now, now you're born
in Canada, right, French Canadian province, no less, and you
decided to take your talents all the way to wait Dome.
Scratch her wound Socket, Rhode Island. Why wait, wait what

(04:15):
what what? What? What brought that on?

Speaker 6 (04:20):
I'll be honest, I have a family in the United States.
My mom's side is all all the families in the
United States. So you know, I've been here during hearing
about Mount Saint Charleston so a couple of years. Now,
you know, everyone hears about Shadock, you know the other
schools like Avon in Connecticut. But uh, you know when

(04:44):
I was I think I was twelve first time I toured.
Now I put three years before today, and I remember
I came here as like two years before my fourteen
year and I was like, mom, Dad, this is I
want to be here. And after just they kept going,
they kept watching me, and I hear today, Yeah, I

(05:06):
just think it was the best.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Thing for my development.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
And uh, you know for me being from from gat
Noo Kobec backphone like there's you can only play for
one program, so you don't have a lot of options.
And I think just coming here for me was a
new a new start, and I'm really happy.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
To be here and we're happy to have you down
here in the United States. So thank you.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure, Okay for our viewers,
Can you describe your game for us, and and if
you could give us one player in the NHL that
you may be watched and and kind of, you know,
helped emulate, you know, towards that player's style.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
I think I'm a gamer. I get up in the
big games. I'm a player that can switch around during
the game. I can be a power for.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
I can be a player that plays the skill game
and and I can also be a guy that.

Speaker 5 (06:05):
Throws a body around try to get the guys going.

Speaker 6 (06:10):
If I had one player that I like to watch
and I can see my game evolved with it is
th Thompson. I just think that the size, the built,
the skills are just there's a guy that I watch
him play iihlates HI.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
Stuff before every game. So I think it's a good
model for me.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
That's that's pretty nice little company up bear.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
What do you think, Lance, I mean, that's uh, that
guy's pretty good Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, yeah, you know right, Okay, well we'll take that. Okay.
So now, upon coming to Mount Saint Charles and throughout
this season, can you tell us how the coaches there
helped you improve your game?

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Oh my god, the coach is here.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
Like you're just they were, they were they helped me
to be better, but like they were giving me so
much confidence that I didn't have to worry about just
shipping the puck, d thank them about like the zone
and stuff like yes, I had to do the stuff
in the proper way, but they would just tell me, like,

(07:18):
you know what to do, just go into the ice
and do your stuff, like you know, like you can't
do We all everyone know.

Speaker 5 (07:25):
Like what you can do. Now you just have to
show us.

Speaker 6 (07:29):
So yeah, it's just every game was just confidence, confidence,
and they would let me play. That's the most. I
think that's the best thing they could have done for
me this year. And yeah, I can't ask more.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
There you go, right, So.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
You named a couple of them, but I think you
guys played some pretty good teams this year from Dallas
Star's lead Bishop Kearney, Penn's elite mid fair Field shout
Out Little Caesars, et cetera, and the list goes on.
But uh, I'm interested in hearing why you think you
were so effective against these you know, powerhouse teams. Besides,

(08:13):
you know, just mount there.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
And in my personal thinking, I think at our age,
you just don't be scared. Just get on the ice
and do what you have to do. You know, every game,
I just I prepare the same way. I just when
and when I step on the ice, I just I
do my stuff. That's that's just what I do.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
And uh, you know, like we played games this year,
like we played bad teams also a couple of times,
like I don't care.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
I just get on the ice and do what I
have to do. And when it gets to big games after,
I just I made sure that my mental is just prepared.

Speaker 6 (08:54):
Maybe a bit more so, I get I can't like
I don't get that too much effected around I don't know,
a missed callers or something.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
But yeah, I think I just.

Speaker 6 (09:06):
Prepare for every game the same way. And I think
that's that's all we think you have to do.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, yeah, man, I can't argue with any of that
kind of logic. What do you think, lamb?

Speaker 3 (09:21):
No, I mean, you know, like you said, he, I
think he is a gamer and you know that is
what that is what the best players do, right the
elite turn it up and are able to turn it
up another notch. Come, we're watching playoff hockey right now,
you know, in the NHL and you know those guys
that can have that extra level and be able to

(09:43):
turn it up another notch come postseason or big games,
those are the ones that you know make the big
contracts and you know carry teams to that next up
par echelon.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
So, okay, if this is even possible, Zach, can you
maybe talk about something you're gonna do over the summer
to maybe improve your game? I mean, like, you already
scored eighty five goals one hundred and eighty six points
and then okay, what do you think you could do
to improve on? Okay, seriously though, but you know what

(10:21):
I mean, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
So I don't know if you guys know, but.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
I have family working for Philadelphia Flyers, So I just
I'm in the Philly area for the whole summer. So
I get on the ice in Philly at the four
East sort of the whole summer.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
And the Flyers gotta take care of me.

Speaker 6 (10:43):
And you know, they watched my games all year out
of a guy doing video for me, and you know,
if he knows what I have to work on this summer,
I would say, like, my skating's pretty good, but I
need to get more more, maybe my edges and stuff.
Maybe working in tight areas and that'd be a good
thing to work on. But yeah, like I just have

(11:07):
great people around me that can help me to to
achieve to the next level.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Wow, there you go.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
All right, all right, you had some good company around
here too, uh with Rocco and uh you know Scud
area around the area as well. So uh yeah, I'm
sure you know you can get on nice with some
of them this summer too and help you be in
New Jersey guys.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Right, yeah, yeah, all right, Well, uh with bringing up.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Your point totals again, I can't help but think that
they've rival numbers from that guy. I just mentioned Rocco
Pelosi's fourteen U season and you know, can you tell
us if he or any other you know, older, more
experienced guys in the system, uh, from the national championship

(12:00):
winning teams, you know, did they give you any words
of wisdom that that helped you this season?

Speaker 6 (12:07):
I mean those guys we had, I mean Rocco, Brandon Scandari,
Brion Willis, Brody.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Burrard, I can name a bunch will Ben at the
start of the year. They're just guys that like at.

Speaker 6 (12:23):
The start of the year, I'll be honest, it wasn't
going really good for me. And they're just like these
guys like they're just there to help everyone. They're just
great people. And you know, I talked to them a
couple of times and they just they gave me the
best the best words, and they're just like that's where
I learned from Rocco told me one of those things
is like just do your stuff, buddy, and don't worry

(12:45):
about anything else. And yeah, after honestly, like just everything
clicked on and those guys they just like they're my
own age and they can't make a difference in in
my game.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
So yeah, just having those guys around is just it's special.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
And you can see how it's kind of elevated your
game a little bit too.

Speaker 6 (13:07):
Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
You can see that in in your skating. You can
see that in your play. You can see that with
your anticipation as far as you you moving the puck
up the ice and things like that. So I mean,
it's it's it's really nice to kind of see that development,
you know what I mean. Yes, So, okay, as a
former chef and and you've mentioned a few things here now,

(13:29):
so I'm gonna I'm gonna throw some things at you. Now,
have you had a cheese steak?

Speaker 5 (13:35):
Oh? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Okay? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (13:37):
One?

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Okay? So have you had a roast pork sandwich?

Speaker 6 (13:43):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Okay? Now which roast pork sandwich did you have?

Speaker 5 (13:49):
I had the one with like the peppers. You know
which one I'm talking about? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Okay, yep, okay, all right? And then do you gino's
are passed?

Speaker 3 (14:02):
You know?

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Okay? There you go? And how do you take your
How do you take your cheese steak?

Speaker 5 (14:11):
I like creamy?

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Okay, so like you get it with right, yeah, lots
of cheese?

Speaker 6 (14:18):
Right?

Speaker 2 (14:18):
All right? There you go, there you go. I was
a next chef a long time ago, and so I
always like to ask guys like what their pregame meal
is and stuff like that. But you said some things
about being in the Philadelphia area all summer, so I
just wanted to lay some questions on you. So, now,
if you get a chance, go to the reading terminal

(14:41):
and go to the Nix okay and get their roast
pork sandwich.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
All right, I'll try that, all right.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
I promise that you won't go wrong there, I promise.
All right, Okay, all right, So now that we're all
hungry right.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
Now, Yeah, now I'm thinking about food. Thanks for that.
Let's go. Let's go with this man.

Speaker 3 (15:07):
Kudos has to go out to Mount Recruiter, because as
good as you are, sir, you got the chance to
play with some pretty special players this year as well.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
I mean Wilson, m J. Campbell, Cameron Dangle, I mean.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Just to name a few, tell us how competitive those
guys were even in practice and how quickly were you
guys able to gel together this season.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
I'll be honest, I can practice. It's not always the love. Yes,
oh oh my god, I can.

Speaker 6 (15:43):
There's stories this year like it gets their emotion gets
up sometimes and but you know, like that's what the
best Bears do, just they want to win.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
And yeah, that's like our team this year.

Speaker 6 (15:54):
Like yes, I've been national championship, but then goes and
didn't go how we wanted to.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
But uh, we're a winning team and I'm proud. I'm
proud to be to be here.

Speaker 6 (16:05):
And uh yeah, these guys like Wilson, Boomedian and m J. Campbell,
they've been on my line since I think I think
we started playing together in November, and I remember it
was that first tournament we did this year, and no,
it's the second one in Boston and we won that tournament.
Those good teams for like the river Rats, the Stars

(16:28):
are there. I think we just destroyed everyone and our
line was just buzzing. And after that tournament, our our
line went flying for the rest of the year.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
They're just they're my.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Best friends of the ice.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
After just adding Cameron Dagles, our power play would just
make it crazy.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
I think we had like a fifty power play this year.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It's not too bad, not too bad, too bad?

Speaker 5 (16:54):
Yeah around there, Oh my gosh. Yeah, they're just they're
all my best friends. Like I can't ask for for
anything else.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
Wow, there you go. I mean the power play, I
mean that's that's not you know, if you're going to score,
that's kind of when you're gonna score kind of geez.
All right, good gravy. All right, the school year is
coming to an end here, Zach, and tell us what
what are you looking forward to the most that you're

(17:25):
going to do this summer?

Speaker 5 (17:28):
Probably just hanging out in Philly, all right. Yeah, yeah,
I won't be home for a thun but uh, you know,
just a couple of days. I'll have. I'll have home.

Speaker 6 (17:39):
Just enjoy my my friends at home. Maybe go on
the boat with some with some friends up in the river. Yeah,
then get no Quebec. It's not like Ocean city or anything,
but uh, it's pretty good for for Quebec.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
So yeah, just enjoy the time then every day.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Okay, I can't go along with that. That just sounds
like a good summer, right.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
So I think I got one last question for you.
Tell me how does hockey down here now that you
play a season of it compare to back home and
you know your previous season.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Oh, I'll be honest, it's totally different. Hockey back in
Quebec is a lot of skills.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Players are different here in the In the US, I
feel like there's more of players I throw their body around.

Speaker 5 (18:43):
Their refs they make a difference too.

Speaker 6 (18:48):
I think that in Quebec they ref they call the
game up more fairly, they.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
Won't let anything slide. But I like that's why I
like about the US, Like you can get a bit
chippy and do some stuff that UH always do.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
So I so that's my game and I just feel
like I like physicality and stuff and it's solely different
than Quebec.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
So when I got here, I was just like, oh,
I like it here.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
M Yeah, I mean, uh, you know down here is
definitely a little bit more open I feel, and and
like you said, I think that plays to your game
a little bit more so. And definitely if you're hanging
around Philly, that's uh the kind of hockey.

Speaker 4 (19:32):
Uh we all know and love, you know, in and
around that area.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
So uh yeah, slightly, I think we're pretty tuned to that. Yeah.
My last question for you, Zach is this, and you've
already kind of experienced quite a bit so far in
your hockey career. What would you tell the guys coming
up behind you? What would your advice be to those

(19:57):
guys that want to be where you are right now?

Speaker 5 (20:00):
I mean everyone says just like enjoy, you know, like
it goes fast.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
Like I remember five years ago, I was playing U
ten hockey and you know, all these kids like now
we're just we're all across, Like there's kids down I
don't even play hockey anymore. There's kids that play double
a hockey. But like there's still guys that when I
see today, like I'll shake their hand. I'll be like,

(20:26):
what's how buddy, and like catch up and stuff. I
think the best part about hockey is just making friends
and stuff. And just like those young kids, like have fun,
enjoy your time playing hockey.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
You won't. You won't do it for your whole life.
So just like enjoy. Yeah, that's that's the best thing
you can do about hockey.

Speaker 6 (20:47):
It's a sport. You do it with your friends, you
do it for fun. Yeah, winning championships once in a while, yep.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Yeah right, okay, awesome. Well I'll tell you what, Lance,
I think we have exhausted our our questions here for
this young man.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
What do you think, Yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
I I would say, if he would allow it, let
let us catch up in another year or so and
see where you are and uh, you know how you
progress to that point. We would love to stay in
touch and you know, see you through and you know,
right up until you get drafted, and you know even

(21:33):
after that.

Speaker 4 (21:33):
Uh, we like to keep our you know.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
Friends close here with prospect watch. So man, we're just
we're just excited for what's what's to come for you,
you know. And you had such a great season this
year and I can't wait to see what happens next year.
So congrats on a great season, and man, we'll be
we'll be watching for sure.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
All right, thank you, thanks a lot, I appreciate it awesome.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
I'm your co host Ron steal Flyers and this has
