Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shit, what is going on? Everybody?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Welcome to strike up beer quick beer of reviews with your
pals out and WRAPI, Dad.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
And wrapid Dave.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
I'm allan, how's it going, buddy.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
It's it's it's getting better. I think.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I don't know, because you know, once you have a
couple and you start kind of feeling it, you ears
get kind of red, you know, rosy in the cheeks
and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
But the next thing you know, you got a little
blink one a two playing in the back of your head.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
I'm feeling this, I know right this beer. I've found
this beer about a week ago. This is Lost Hiker
out of Rio Dooso, New Mexico.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
So when you say you found it about a week ago,
found in the fridge, you've had it for a while,
but you just found.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
It in your fridge a week ago, actually bought.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
I just want to clarify because this is something that
they can there at the Brewery's. That's what our boys
out of Brutal Head very lovingly called an Elfin Lake.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah it's real heavy, uh. February sixteen, twenty twenty five.
So it's not an old beer, but it's a it's
been a couple of months and I went out through
a vacation, but I just for some reason, we haven't
drinking yet, you know. And and so there's more bears.
And I looked at the other ones. I had some
other ones from New Mexico's like, man, we gotta get
to this one, this one, you know, come on, let's.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Se especially one that they can that there for you
right at the time. Sometimes these don't hold their carbonation. Well,
it just depends on how good their their little canning
machine is there right now. This is the last check
in on this on untapped is from is from March
twenty fifth or March eighth, twenty twenty five. You're gonna
(01:29):
want to yeah, well yeah, it's it's like a Guinness.
I gotta let it settle then you can pour the
second part of it. There's only eighty seven total check
ins on this. Yeah, seventy four ratings on untapped. It's
five point nine percent alcohol by volume.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
They got the ib used as na untapped.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
You know, it says classic American West Coast pale ale
I average score a three point five to seven out
of five out of seventy four ratings on this bad
boy so doesn't have a ton of ratings or a
ton of check ins. So that just kind of tells
me that this is a maybe this is the first
time that they brewed it. It was a limited thing
because again there hasn't been a check in in three
(02:10):
months on this.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
That guy was safe, but all right, so went to
the brewery. It's a very small brewer.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
It's like, if you want to call it main Street, right,
it's actually on was it It's sut Earth. That's the
name of the road, like it kind of goes through
town and whatnot. So Lost Hiker Brewing this is their
tap room, twenty five thirty six Sutter Drive, Readose in
New Mexico. It's a really cool little place. It's not
a big tap room. When you walk in, it's a
(02:41):
The funny thing is is you're walking down those shops.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
And stuff like that, there's all of a sudden you
see like a little it's a glass and it says,
you know, lost cicer and a little blue door.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Okay, And so when you pop in, you can sit
at the bar and there's probably I don't know, fifteen
seats there at the bar, and then there's some other
little tables like little two or four top tables, really
cool little joint. They had some good tunes going to
I was like, man, that's playing red Dirt. He's from Texas,
you know whatever. So but ended up talking to a
dude that just he goes like, where are you from
(03:10):
or from from Dallas?
Speaker 1 (03:12):
You know whatever?
Speaker 2 (03:13):
I moved I'm here from Dallas because I moved here
like ten years ago for this brewery, not for the
down brewery. But he's a cooler story. But he's like,
you know, I just they he came out here once like.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Just loved it it and just said, yeah, it's a.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Cool little mountain town. But anyways, let me let me
top you off just real quick, bud.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Let me take this. Let me take a swig first.
Let me take a swig first.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Come on, you can put some more in, come on,
let me.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I'm not objecting to it, but I need to get
some of this beer in my mouth.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Thing.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
So you you had it out there that it's a
West Coast I p a West Coast pale Okay, Okay,
because yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
It says classic American West Coast pale al.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Okay, Yeah, Sparky, this is Sparky's pale ale. It's American
palo According to the website Lost Hiker Brewing dot com,
Sparky is a dog. We love that dog. We also
love this beer. Sparky drinks water. This is a smooth
American paleol that can also be a lap dog.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
So, and that's that five point nine percent alcohol the volume, right,
Oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
I mean it's usually something like a palele. You're gonna
go a little bit higher on.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
It's got that kind of dry taste you'll get with
a paleo. It's pretty tasty though.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, it's very cool. I love that color.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
The color is pretty nice because it almost starts turning
over to like where it's a you know, an ambrail
or something like that, where it starts moving.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, because it's got that copper color real to it.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
And it's it is slight hazy, I mean only because
it's just the clarity is not there. But it looks amazing,
like you can see through it. But it just it's
just that it doesn't have the clarity. No, no, but
that's because of the color.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Right.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
So and then yeah, I just decided to get a
let me get that crowler, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
It's like what merry you want?
Speaker 2 (04:58):
And so we had this, we had a couple of
the I went to this brewery probably two or three
times while we were there.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Okay, we're there for almost a week.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
So I popped into the other brewery that's they have
two right there on the main main road, and I
like the vibes here a little bit lower key, chill.
You just want to get a beard's.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
It's not like you're walking hey, no, you know whatever.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
But it was like it gave those vibes right where
you're just like you want to sit there and have
a beer. Not a lot of kids and shit running
around in the background or anything like that. It was
just like you sit there and just chill.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
That was So I went to a.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Went out of town this last week and it was
in Mineral Wells and there's a brewery that I went
to there that was was almost kind of like that.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
That low key vibe. It wasn't real big.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
It was right there off the main strip of the city.
It's mostly bar seating and then just kind of around
the edge, just got some tables and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
No kids or anything like that.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
So really only went by there once to just get
some beer to go because it was a trip with
the kiddo.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
But it was real cool.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
I'll talk about it more during like the main show.
So if you watch the main show, by the time
you've seen this, you've heard you.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Talk about it.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
But but yeah, that it was kind of like that
that vibe that that brewery had where it was just
kind of like a just a cool place to go
in chill out.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
They actually had like a little band in there. Oh
it's like a you know, it's like and.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
It was almost kind of like they're playing almost kind
of like folk type music, like just kind of chill
music where you just kind of chill, enjoy yourself, drink
a beer.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Seemed like a real cool spot to go and hang
out at. Unfortunately, it was a kid trip, so it
didn't go you.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Know, but but yeah, you go, this is that's that
palo that you like so much. So Lizzy actually picked
this beer up, okay because I was like, we what
beer should we do? And she was drinking paleoles. I
think they I don't know if they had a hazy
or nothing like that. So she's like, you know what,
this one's what's up? Yeah, So but but I was like,
(07:03):
what do you think? And she's like, I really like
this one, you know. So it's just on their tap room.
There are some different ones up there. I think when
we were there, they probably had like eight beers, you
know or something like that.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
They got a mister White.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
It's a Belgium white session.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
That White's pretty cool, dude, It's.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Yeah, absolutely, it looks really cool. That duncle not your
uncle's dunkle. That one looks pretty cool. Snow Apocalypse, you know.
I think I had that one as well. That was
a cool thing when I when I went to these breweries,
I was like, Joe, just give me one of everything,
you know, I'll just do flights. And they're like, you
want one of I'm from out of town. It's like,
(07:40):
I actually just want to make sure I can try mom,
and I'm gonna check them all in too. Yeah, and
so I was kind of going through them.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Some of these have always changed, like summer, they didn't
have Summer from Hell or anything at that. When I
was there, they had their their winter beers. You know,
it was still February. So but yeah, I had all these.
It was it was really good. The selection was fine.
I didn't really have any ripes or anything about the place.
I really liked it. Like I said that, the beer
tender there was really like two times it went. We
(08:07):
had one different one each time, so you know, won
the first time, one the second time. They're just real nice.
I'm like, can people just be nice?
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Huh? Okay, you know, it's it, that's it.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
But yeah, they had a pretty nice selection. Like I said,
I think it was like six to eight beers and
went through them. Obviously, their website's turned over since then
because of the fact that it's summertime. Come on, this
is this is four months ago. But really cool place,
really cool town. You know, it's kind of a drive
for us, like seven hours if you're booking it, doing
ninety all the way there, you know.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
But it was cool.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
We got to go through Roswell, had a lot of
fun at Black Cock Brewing, which I had zero of
their beers because they only had other beers on tap.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
May I tell you that story?
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yeah it was That was a wild nice That was
a wild night hanging out out there. But uh, but yeah,
but we made it out there to Riodoso. It's a
really cool little place. I should have went earlier because
it kind of dried up a little bit and the
weather was a little bit warmer, which was kind of
weird for February.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I thought I was gonna be like perfect.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
I was like, it's gonna be cold everywhere, man, snow everywhere,
all that kind of stuff. Now that was all dried
up kind of unless you're up on the mountain or
they they had another little area for like kids and
like families and stuff like that, Like right, yeah, I
was like I'd go down on a tube and stuff
like that. I like, okay, that's what I want to do.
I was like, I have my bib, my mouth was
ready to roll. And then it's like insanely packed. I've
(09:30):
been to New Mexico once. I went to a boy
scout camp out there, Philmont.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
It's a big stargazing out that way.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Oh we did, definitely, But I went out there for
a cavalcade rode rode a horse through the mountains for
a week.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
And there's a big, huge.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
Tall mountain out there called Mountain Baldy that we hiked
up and when you get to the top, it's just
covered in snow.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
And this was July when we went, right, And that's
the cool thing, Like when you get to those tall mountains,
those places with the hig elevations.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
You'll be out there in July, but you got snows everywhere.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Right, But yeah, that was at a good time, you know,
I was I think it was like seven, sixteen seventeen
at the time.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
That was one of my favorite trips, I think because
I haven't been to the mountains in a long time,
like I went to Alaska. That was pretty much, in
a minute, the most mountainous area have been.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Right. I'm from the hills of Kentucky, right where there's there's.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Hills and all that kind of stuff where there's no mountains,
but still it's so beautiful.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
And I was driving out there, you.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Know at Lizzie and Taylor they're both passed out, you
know whatever, and I'm just like, the most gorgeous place.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
I there been in my life.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
We were in Mineral Wells this last week and it's
gorgeous out there in Mineral Wealth and that's just over
an hour away.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
And the hills and the mountains out there.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
Like at one point we were driving to there was
a house that some of the coach a lot of
the coaches were staying at.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Three of them.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
They all got one big house.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
It was the party house that we went to one night,
and we're driving out there and like on the side
of the road we saw a spider like this convention
Jesus walking across the road. Like I was like this,
Like everything was cool until I saw but like it
was one of those where you just I'm doing like
fifty as I'm going down this and it's winding a
(11:12):
little bit, but it's like you're you're driving by and
you're like, you're not quite sure what you see as
you're driving up on it, and then as you kind
of get closer, but you're also swerving away because you
don't know what it is, so you don't want to
run it over and then get a flat tire. And
as I'm already I'm kind of passing, I'm like, that
was a spider.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Had I know, yeah, run it over, I would have
ran that over.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
A lot of wildlife out there, which I guess I'm
not used to, like obviously big game or anything like that,
but here, you know, we.
Speaker 1 (11:40):
Have coyotes, bobcats and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
You know, there's always some shit running around, but out there,
you know, it's like out there hanging out with Tilly
one night and I was like careful with Tilly out there. Well,
it was I was worried about bears. Didn't see any
black bears anything like that. But I saw like a
caribou deer. I think it's it wasn't a cariboo. There's
a mule deer. O. I think it's what it was.
So it was probably be like a little as tall
than I was. And so the mom deer's head, she
(12:03):
poked her head out around the cabin and I go
and so till it was already ground. She already knew
it was there. And I'm like, oh, let's everybody be
cool here because I.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Don't have it. I don't have guns in the house.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
But also like when you're in those areas like that,
right they're used to you're not going to scare them off.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
I just sat there and I just played it cool,
and I wasn't trying to like bang, like I know
how to handle like say, like with black bears and
stuff like that, Right, you make noise, you clap your
hands and shit like that, or if you got pots
and pangy but whatever, bear mace.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
But like with this one, it was just it was
like it's not.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Really an intelligent. It's just kind of rolling around most
like deer, right, deer is just dumb. But it's the
thing is, this thing's huge. And so I was like,
all right, everybody be cool, there's a deck between us.
I gotta get around, get around, you know whatever. I
was like, well, come check out the damn thing. It
just walks right across the street, goes into a whole
nother little area and then to their little dumbass you
(12:57):
know whatever, small there, baby baby deer come out and.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
They what you called venison.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Stupid go ahead, But yeah, I mean that thing was
bigger than our car, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (13:10):
It was. It was huge. I was like Jesus, but
that's that's one thing I was worried about.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
And so we saw like a pack of wolves, and
we saw wild horses and ship they're hanging out down
next to the river in this one little area. And
it was like what I'm like, you gotta And there
was wild horses coming through down the road and there was.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Wolves and you're just like just back up slowly and
watch them so you see what they're doing. Just want
to start shooting any get here good things.
Speaker 3 (13:44):
That is really good. And like one thing I was.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
I was talking to some of the other parents and
stuff this last week and we were talking about pale
as and just how damn pale ale is, Like this
is right there in the vein. Like if you like
see Nevada pale which is a fantastic beer, this isn't
that same vein, And I would put this in that
same category, and especially as like deliciousness, like how good
(14:09):
it is.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I'm probably sitting at like three seven five on this one.
H really enjoy it. I think it's just delicious.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
I like that that that dryness and that little paleness
that you get at the end of it that just
kind of hangs out the back of your back of
your mouth.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Yeah, it's a different brew, right, like pale ales are
just they have that different aftertaste where it don't it's dry.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
It's just and I don't feel.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
Like people do enough pale ales, Like honestly, I.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
So hard and so I think that the market as well.
They when everybody's kind of doing hazy or whatever or
they were completely against it and they did loggers right,
you know. But I like a nice variety when I
go into a place, uh to check it out in
this and this place had a good, great selection. I'll
say a four because I went there and I had
a blast. You know, the factor they all beyond I am.
(15:00):
I'm gonna factor in the all.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Right, I'm gonna factor in the whole vibe. I was
out there. I was out there hanging out in the
wilderness for a couple of days.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Just roughing it. They're like, hey, look at me, I'm
bear Grills mother.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Well, you know, the first day I got there, I
was kind of over. So we just watched Lord of
the Rings, like all three of them. But you know, after.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
That, it was like and regular or extended versions. They
were all on HBO whatever the hell, so probably regular.
So but yeah, I mean that's like nine hours.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
And I can't believe.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Lizzie was like, you know, because let's let's just sit
on the couch and chill. And so we sat on
the couch and chill till he's running around, take her
out o the side every so often, or whatever we do,
even use we didn't get. We didn't use the hot
tub or nothing, because I was like, you're gonna get
some wild animal.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
It felt like you were getting her stand any used
the bathroom or anything, just kind of let it go.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Man.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
So yeah, dude, this place is amazing. Lost Hiker Redos
in New Mexico. Pop in and you just get you what.
It's a really cool joint. It's off the main road
and they make really good beer.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
And if you're if you're watching this, then you'd go there.
Just walk and they'll be like, hey, strike up here.
Sent me and they'll be like, okay, cool, why do
I care?
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Have you have you ever? Have you ever had Lost
Hiker Beers before? Let us know. Maybe you're from the
area and you're like, hey, no, that's a really good place.
Just tell us, tell us as always, guys, I'm Island.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
I'm already talked to you later.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
J
