(00:01):
This is amazing media production. Hello, most awesomeone. I'm a Yana Angel

(00:22):
and you're listening to the Quick PlayingSmall podcasts. You're a space for inspired
thinking, encouragement and good old goodness. So today we're going to be talking
about quitting, but the power inquitting. So what is a quitter?
I looked it up in the definitionsas a person who gives up easily or

(00:45):
does not have the courage or determinationto finish a task that doesn't feel good
right if someone calls you a quitter, and I think that is what comes
to a lot of our minds whenwe think of the word quit. We
think about not wanting to be knownas a quitter, or not wanting to
be known as someone who doesn't havefollow through and can't finish things, someone

(01:08):
who gives up. But in reality, there's something to be said about the
strength that it takes to quit somethingthat no longer serves you. So often
it's easier to just stay right, stay the course, stay in the job,

(01:30):
stay in the relationship, stay stayin the place that you live,
stay wherever it is, and whateverthat circumstance looks like. It's so much
easier to just stay there's things thatyou have to do in order to step
up, stand up and say, actually, this no longer works for me.

(01:53):
I quit, I'm not doing itanymore. I'm done with this.
That may require some things out ofyou that a lot of times many people
do not have in them. Sowhile we look at the quitter or the
action of quitting through this negative lens, in reality, it takes a lot

(02:19):
more sometimes to be that person thanto be the person that's quiet and stays
and goes with the flow. Quittingrequires self discipline and the ability to resist
those short term benefits in that shortterm gratification in favor of thinking of the

(02:39):
long term, the long term benefitswhat you really desire, what you really
want. So by practicing self disciplinein the process of quitting, you're able
to cultivate this very valuable skill whichcan be lied to a lot of different

(03:00):
areas of your life, leading tomaybe you seeing a different side of you
personally, growing and expanding and developingin a way that you hadn't even known
was possible for yourself. So,where quitting has a negative connotation, I

(03:21):
offer to you that we reframe howwe think of quitting. If we are
quitting for our own greater good.So a few ways that quitting can benefit
us and give back to us.That's what I want to share with you.
So when you're listening to these ways, maybe keep in mind a circumstance

(03:44):
that you have something that you've beendebating with yourself about quietly and trying to
figure out do I stay, doI go? Do I let this go?
Or do I keep holding on?Maybe this will give you some ideas
or start to push you in theright direction. One way that quitting can

(04:05):
benefit us is it can help usdiscover new opportunities or you vee ow new
opportunities to us. When you quitcertain habits or situations or things that you
are do, you open yourself upto new possibilities, new opportunities. It
allows you to explore different paths, different interests, maybe even different experiences.

(04:29):
The other thing to keep in mindand when we're thinking about ways that quitting
can benefit us is our self awareness. Quitting requires us to be introspective.
For us to be self reflective,it encourages us to examine our motives while
we're doing things, our values, what we're prioritizing. So in the process

(04:53):
of determining if you want to quitsomething. You can gain a deeper understanding
of yourself when you're really dissecting whoyou are, your strengths, what you
value, why you're doing the thingsthat you're doing, and your potential areas
for improvement, which is crucial whenyou're trying to develop an existence that you

(05:18):
can be proud of. Resilience. That is the next way that quitting can
benefit us. Quitting can be difficult. That's why we said at the top
of the show. So many peopledon't do it. They just stay.
They just stay the course, whateverthat looks like. And because quitting can

(05:41):
involve letting go of familiar and comfortablehabits situations, people you don't realize that
when you overcome that and let thosethings go, and you overcome the mindset

(06:03):
of wanting to stay and potentially bestagnant, you are developing resilience. You
are developing a muscle. You're growingthat muscle within yourself, like, Okay,
change is not the worst thing, because so many of us are just
afraid of change, and that's whywe don't quit things. That's why we

(06:25):
do stay in situations because of thefamiliarity and the resistance to change so that
resilience becomes a truly invaluable asset foryou, and it helps you navigate future
obstacles and potential future setbacks. Youwon't be so devastated by them because now

(06:46):
you have started developing this muscle ofOkay, if I walk away from something,
I know that I can get somethingbetter, I can do more.
I can still survive and thrive withoutholding on to what was familiar in what
I want to knew. Quitting canalso enhance your self esteeming your self confidence

(07:09):
go figure. As you are ableto reflect on your ability to quit and
to overcome the challenges, you developa sense of empowerment, a feeling of
can do what can do attitude,a belief in yourself and your own capabilities,
which is invaluable. That belief thathey, I can do anything,

(07:35):
I can do hard things, Ican do easy things, I can navigate
through any situation I'm put in.Ooh, that right there will give you
this unspoken but seen and felt confidence. Money can't even buy that. Nobody
can teach you that. You haveto go through the experiences to show you

(07:59):
what is possible for you within you. And finally, quitting can usher in
a lifestyle of healthier habits. Whenyou quit unhealthy habits, or when you
quit unhealthy people in your life orunhealthy situations in your life, you then

(08:20):
create space to cultivate healthier alternatives. You figure out will if I've remove this
from my life, what do Iwant to put in its place? Or
do I want to put anything inits place? Do I feel like maybe
I can just be without X,Y or Z, and that's maybe better

(08:41):
for me. So, whether it'sadopting a regular exercise routine, or practicing
mindfulness or prioritizing your self care, new habits can help contribute to you grow
as a person and going deeper withyourself and realizing what you do not need.

(09:07):
Furthermore, allowing you to go deeperand really understanding what no longer serves
you. When you quit it andyou let it go from your life,
you look up and you're like, why did I think I needed that all
this time or all these years?Gosh, it was draining or it was

(09:28):
depleting me, or it was dimmingmy light or any of these number of
things that whatever may have been doingin your life that wasn't serving you.
When you get on the other side, of it and you start cultivating those
healthier habits, you really start torealize, Wow, I am so much

(09:48):
better off without the thing that Iquit. So I hope that this just
gives you a little something to thinkabout and just realizing that quitting does not
need to be a negative. Whenwe're on our personal development journey ing,
that's often one of the first thingsthat we have to do, one of

(10:09):
the things that we need to recognizethat we need to do in order to
get to the next step or throughthe next thing. It's important to combine
quitting with being intentional though intentional effortsto learn, to grow, to engage,
to expand, to better yourself reallyso that the life that you're looking

(10:35):
to have can be in alignment withthe person that you are existing as in
the present moment. Thank you somuch for joining me on this episode of
Quit Playing Small. As always,I appreciate you taking the time to spend
time with me, and I hopeyou have an amazing week ahead. I

(10:58):
hope you do wonderful things. Youquit what does not serve you, even
if it's something small. You canstart small and as always, be well.
