Speaker 1 (00:02):
A special Father's Day message from the men here at ron,
refining the gentleman's hour, Happy Father's Day to all of
the father's.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
In my case, I had two dads at my biological
father and I had my stepfather. And while I grew
up in a household with my step father, my dad
was around and influencing me in ways big and small.
My stepfather, who is no longer with us, really impacted

(00:37):
me in ways that I didn't see. As a youngster,
I thought he was a little tough. I thought he
was a little sort of rough around the edges. But
as I got older, I really began to appreciate him.
Then I appreciate him now more than ever, because it
was that toughness that I think allowed me to even

(01:00):
make it through a youth that was filled with lots
of temptations. But it was always my dad, who I
feared and didn't want to get on his wrong side.
Then there's my biological dad, who, as I've gotten older,
I think I've taken on so many of his characteristics
it's hard to explain. His influence on me have been

(01:25):
in big and small ways and ways in which I've
been conscious of. Ways I wasn't conscious of, but I
can certainly see them even today. And of course being
a father is a whole another thing, and it's truly
been one of the great stories of my life. And
want to continue to get better at being a father.

(01:46):
I think I do okay, but can certainly do better.
And so when I think about Father's Day, I think
more about my father's than I do think about my
role as one.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
So Happy Father's Day to all.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Of the dads, to my stepdad, and to my dad.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Especially.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Fatherhood to me is a representation of being able to
provide and share love and support for someone much younger
than yourself. It is a man that is trying to help, guide, encourage, support, discipline,

(02:36):
and love all as one person to someone that's again
much younger than they are. I never had that when
I was growing up, so when I became a father,
it was very difficult for me to feel like I

(02:57):
was doing a great job. Bat it more to come
on that. I hope that you have a wonderful, blessed
and happy Father's Day.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Today we're celebrating Father's Day. So for me, what does
it mean to be a father? Well, I'm going to
look back always to the model that my father made.
I'm going to look back to the example that he
set just living his life and doing what he did.

(03:37):
A father is a protector first and foremost. A father
is a teacher. A father prepares for the future. A
father shares all those lessons learned from his own life experiences.
A father's job, I think, is to try and set

(03:59):
his children on the right path, hold them accountable, teach
them right from wrong, teach them how to be safe,
teach them how to keep their family safe, support their goals,
support their dreams, support them physically and emotionally. I was
blessed to have a father who did all of those

(04:19):
things for me and my brother, as well as for
our extended family. I never was blessed with biological children
of my own, but I was blessed with a daughter.
I was adopted by my daughter. No, I didn't adopt
my daughter, she adopted me, and when she did that,
she also made me an instant grandfather. I have four

(04:42):
grand babies, three girls and a boy, and I take
my job as father seriously as a result of her
choosing me. So we wanted to take a moment today
to celebrate fathers. Father figures and those mothers that are
taken on that father role because there is no father

(05:05):
celebrating you all. So John, Greg and I have very
different fatherhood experiences in terms of being fathered and being
a father. We're gonna really dive deep into that subject
in our next episode, hoping you all will tune in

(05:26):
for that. We're really excited about that conversation, but we
wanted to kind of make sure to kick it off
a little early and to take a moment to celebrate
all of the fathers and father figures out there that
are doing the thing every day. Happy Father's Day, everyone,
