Speaker 1 (00:04):
Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come. Turn your devices
to the maximum volume, sit back, relax, and let's get
ready to retra.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Happy holidays and Merry Christmas. Everybody listening to this. It
is the Ready to Wrest podcast. I am one of
your hosts. My name is Max, and joining me for
this special home alone two review is the Duchess of Horror. Chelsea.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Hi, guys, how we doing Merry Christmas?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Unfortunately, our buddy Joey from Ninja Twittles cannot join us.
I know we've been hinting at that for like most
of this month, but things happened. He got called into
work a little later. So this is literally our last
day before the holiday hits that we were able to record.

(01:29):
So here we are. It is a busy season and
that is why there hasn't been a lot of episodes.
So I'm hoping to get this done released before the
twenty fifth. That is the goal. It might be a
Christmas miracle, but that's okay. So Chelsea, I need to
let you know and let the listeners know that this

(01:51):
might be a little different episode because for whatever reason.
I mean, I know what the reasons are, but I'm
just exhausted and my eyes are barely open right now.
That's how tired I am.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yes, you look a little bit sleepy, but that's okay.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Sleepy or drunk, take your pick, maybe a little both.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
You're just you know, you're you're getting ready for all
the Christmas cheer that it's you know, it's on its
way exactly.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I've been up since four and I haven't taken a nap,
So I need to take a nap. I need to
go to bed. Actually. Anyways, so we're going to be
talking about Home Alone two and it is five years
of this podcast and we haven't talked about Home Alone
too yet. I think that's kind of a citizen that's
what they call it.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Why has it been so long.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Well because we've been talking like Lord of the Rings
and junk.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
I know, well, hey, that's you know, things, things are important.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yea, oh my god, priorities, you know, just you know,
having our pes. I'm probably just gonna leave that all right.
So we did talk about Home Alone though, that was
with the with their Buddy Joey Yes titles, So we
did that one. We're gonna talk about the second one.
But before we get to that, Chelsea, I wanted to

(03:10):
ask you, and I think we've asked this before, but
it's a fun, you know, refresher and we got some
new listeners hopefully, probably had a lot of listeners that left,
but that's okay too. But anyways, Chelsea, Uh, what was
like the holidays like for you growing up? Little Chelsea? Yeah,

(03:32):
with the blonde hair and the glasses and all that.
How was it? Yes?

Speaker 3 (03:38):
It was good. You know, I'm an only child, so Chris,
you know, Christmas is I am. I'm making out like
a bandit. Okay, did you hear you heard it?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
First Chelsea makes out with bandits.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
I do.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
We're you know the ones in the movie.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
Yeah, you heard it here first Chelsea makes up with
the sticky bands or the wet bandits, whichever you whatever they.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Want to be called.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
I yeah, no, But like you know, I'm the only child,
and I was like the only grandchild for a while
on one side of the family. So I mean I
was like getting it was like, you know, Toys r
Us had opened, you know, a store in my home
on Christmas morning, So I was doing well.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
So you were like, I have a lot of Grandma's.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah exactly, So I didn't get a talk boy or anything.
But I sure goot, like, you know, every Barbie doll
ever made or something. So it was good. It was
a good time. Yeah, Christmas were great when I was
a kid.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, yeah, I have really fond memories of Christmas, and
uh should I think so? Like I have memories like
when my parents were together and then when they weren't.
But they always, no matter how much animosity they had
towards each other at one point. It wasn't always like that,

(05:03):
but there was times where it was rougher than others,
they always came together on Christmas. That was like whatever
drama they had between each other, they put aside and
we're there on Christmas morning for my sister and I.
So usually yeah, usually I think we would just be
with my mom and then my dad would come in
the morning and we would all open presents together and stuff.

(05:25):
So I mean, kudos to my parents for doing that.
And you know, Christmas could have been I guess, like
separate and all that, but I guess they wanted to
have somewhat normalizing Christmas. And like I don't remember, I
don't have memories of like, oh that was weird or anything.
It actually was quite normal, So go mom and dad,

(05:48):
all right, But yeah, actually I don't know if I'll
be able to get it up before now and when
this episode is released. But there is video of me
calling Chris, my cousin Chris, who's getting ready to get
married right now.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
That's why.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
So he's getting married in ten days from now, which
is crazy, but he uh, I got a PlayStation. And
I called him and I'm like, I got the PlayStation.
I got the PlayStation. And then I'm asking what did
you get? And I'm on the household, like, yeah, I'm
on the wireless right, I'm in the kitchen because that's like,
as a kid, that's the most private thing you can have,

(06:28):
is yeah, the corner of the kitchen because I was
allowed to bring the phone into my bedroound. Stuff like that.
But yeah, was there any toys from the nineties that
you like, totally wanted that you either got or didn't get.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
I definitely missed out on getting an N sixty four.
I really wish I had gotten that because a lot
of my friends had them, and when I went there
to their house, I was like, this is the gaming
console I want. But I never got that one. I
always wanted that and something God that I really want it.
I mean, man, that's that's really that's hard to say

(07:07):
because I don't know. Usually it was like the bigger gifts,
like I got like a like a laptop or or
a computer or something right like that was really cool.
But I don't know because I, yeah, I see a
lot of these like online, like these guys got like
wasn't it Joey talked he got like the Turtles van
the title VAM. Yeah, and it was so cute.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
It's a total van. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
I'm like trying to think of a time where it's like,
oh wow, I really like I can't remember, but I
got good stuff. It was great. It was great, you
know what. I think. I don't know if I got
for chriss, but I got like a keyboard piano and
I loved that and I gave I kept it for
years and I finally during COVID, I think I gave

(07:53):
it to like a friend of mine and he still
has it, so it's still it's still in the use.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
I didn't know, do you used to play piano, used
to like take lessons and stuff. No, you just like
on the keyboard.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Like I tricked my parents because the keyboard. It would
help you learn the song, like the the keys would
light up.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Red, hit next.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
And so I had it on the settings where the
key the keyboard lights would not come on and you
could press any key and it would continue on the song.
So I told my parents, Hey, look what I learned.
And I was just pressing random keys and it played
the song and my parents were blown away. And and

(08:41):
then they found out and it was like, prepare for
the rest of my life because there's nothing that impressive.
They're like, our child's genius. No, she's just really tricky.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
That's funny. Yeah, and it's still the same hall. Still
our child's a genius. No, she's just very just really
trick that's funny. You know. Right before you got on,
I was thinking, like, you know, what was some of
those toys. I'll be honest, you know. I would always
get like the the Sears catalog or the kb's catalog

(09:15):
or toys r us Oh yeah, stru crap out of it.
And to have like a system. Right, if it was
like three stars, I really wanted it. If it was
like a star, I wanted If it was a circle,
it was like, yeah, I can have that, you know.
So like, my parents didn't follow any of that. I
don't think they looked at the damn book once because
when I would get open the my stuff, I'm like,

(09:36):
what is this? But there was one thing that was
crazy and you probably have never heard of this. It's
called the voice Bot, and it's like a knockoff transfer.
I have no idea where my parents got this, but
I remember playing it like all the time. It was

(09:58):
like this knockoff of Transformers. But you would give it
voice commands and then it would be like, I am
voice Spot, get me your command. I gotta show you.
It's kind of crazy, but I just remember there was
this one mode where and it would like walk on
its own. But when if when it was coming from

(10:19):
like the car into the like it looks like the
megasorder or something, the robot version. It's it's horrible, like
the the way that it transforms. It's so slow. It
goes like it slowly goes up. It's not fluid at all.
But I used to love that toy.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
But yeah, my mom. I remember one year my mom
went to this store and they I guess these were
a chain. I don't remember. They weren't really around for long.
They were called Zany Brainy.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Oh, I totally remember Zany Brainy.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Yeah, and I remember one year all my Christmas presents
were from Zany Brainy and they had great stuff. They
had really fun stuff. So I remember one year was
like Zanny Brainy Christmas.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
You know what Zanny Brainy. Still there's a website.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Oh really, but it looks like it's just.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
A confetti backpack and a notebook. Yeah, but yeah, Zany Brainy.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
They had remember crazy bones.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Oh yeah, that was like that was really big in Canada.
And my friend introduced those to me because he was
from the Brainy that makes sense. I don't even know
where Zany Brainy was.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
There was one in like the city next to me.
There was one I think in Florida.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Was there one at Universal Studios.

Speaker 6 (11:38):
I don't remember, but I don't think I barely remember these,
but I think like Zany Brady also had like a
lot of like puzzle games and stuff, like they had
bop it.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
I think my mom got bop ated Zany Brainy.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Yeah, that's actually that's like a deep pool. Because I
don't really hear people talk about Zany Brainy's.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
On the Yeah, I never hear. I'm kind of shocked
that you know about it because I don't feel like brainy.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
You know, Yeah, I wonder was it just was it? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I don't know. I have to I have to look
more into zany Brainy, but I have not like gone
back to look about at it.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
But yeah, all right, maybe I'll post that on talk
about yeah, who remembers nanny Brain, who remembers zany brain
the store and pull Yeah. Oh there's a whole reddit.
Damn you, Chelsea. Now I'm gonna be in this.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
That's awesome. Now after this, I'm gonna have to like
look into zany Brainy and like find all the information.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
There's a whole zany Brainy reddit.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
If there's one thing I like to talk about and
reminisce about, it's old stores. Already brought up I already brought.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Up toys ARUs limited to.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Montgomery Wards. Did you ever go to Montgomery Wards? Yeah,
Mervins Murden. I was literally just gonna say Mervyn's.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Oh yeah, uh before. I don't know if it's all
across you know, the United States, probably not, but there
used to be Alpha Beta grocery store alphabet.

Speaker 5 (13:12):
Oh.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
We talked about this because you also you would go
to Fedco and I also went to Fedco.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Fedco, there was a Fedco in the OC.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Huh yeah, there was a Fedco and uh in a
park right next not very firm, and that's where I
got my Super Nintendo. Came from Fedco.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Oh I used to. Okay, so Fedco it's like a
basically a department store. So not department store. It's like
it was like Target. I mean where Fedco was now
is now a Target in my city. But I just
remember to bring it full circle. So I got my
PlayStation and at Fedco they used to have these like

(13:50):
bundle packs where it was two games and like a
controller without the analog sticks. It was like just like
a cheap controller. It was I think a station controller.
Uh for like I don't know, fifteen bucks at the time,
twenty bucks. It was like really discounted. So I remember
my mom bought me a few of those and uh yeah, Fedcoat.

(14:10):
I my memories of that as like that. For whatever reason,
I remember like the produce section, like the the uh
all the food very well, okay, I remember trying to
get dunk Ruse and stuff. And then I also have
this like vivid memory of and mister bubbles like the

(14:34):
oh yeah, the pink the pink bubble. Oh yeah, soap yeah,
mister bubbles, yeah, not to be confused with uh, mister bucket.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
My Fedco had like an elevator in it, so I
remember taking it to different floors and going to like
where the electronics were and stuff. My parents were more
excited about getting the Super Nintendo than I was. I
was really little when they got it, so I don't
even know if like I was like able to play it.
I just remember we had it. They were more excited
than I was to get it.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
So all right, Well, there's people that are bored with us,
and they're probably like stepping to the Home Alone two part.
But I will say we're being real podcasters right now.
It's pre episode banter. But I'll say this, I'll say
last last thing about the PlayStation and Christmas and stuff.
So it was like Christmas, I think nineteen ninety nine,

(15:26):
and I remember the way that I used to open
presents as a kid. I always do the small ones
and then the big ones, So I remember. I think
that was like the first year where I was like
the only thing I want and I really want it
is a PlayStation that's like I just hounded it. PlayStation, PlayStation, PlayStation, PlayStation.

(15:46):
I didn't get the N sixty four till much later.
I was just like PlayStation. So then I opened up
this like I didn't know if it was a CD
at the time. It was it was definitely a CD,
and yeah, what is this?

Speaker 6 (15:58):
You know?

Speaker 2 (15:59):
So I opened it up and it was Twisted Metal three.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
I was like, oh, dude, I get a PlayStation. And
then my parents are like, oh, Santa must have dropped
that off by accident. You don't have a PlayStation. What
is he doing?

Speaker 5 (16:14):
You know?

Speaker 2 (16:16):
But I don't know why. They just didn't stop me.
I was like, oh, actually, let's hold off on that one.
So yeah, so I opened it and I was like,
did I get a PlayStation?

Speaker 3 (16:29):
You were up? You're like wait a minute.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yeah, And then my parents and then once my parents
were like because it was always like Santa Santa, you know,
I kind of caught on pretty pretty quickly. Actually, the
way that I exposed or the way that I found
out Santa wasn't real was that, I mean, he is real,
But my sister and I used to like go, like

(16:52):
my mom would leave us alone from time time. Yeah,
and I'm probably like eleven twelve, and my sister was
like five days younger than me. So I just remember
this one time. We're like, all right, well mom's gone,
let's look for all the toys and all of our gifts.
So we went through every closet. I would lift her
up home, I just hold her up and stuff. And

(17:15):
then I remember I saw something, and then I saw
what it was. I think it was like a sorry
board game or however. And then that Christmas it was
said two Max from Santa, and I opened it and
I was like, Sanda is not real, Santa's.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Anyways, that's how I figured out. Wasn't the handwriting, wasn't
the you know? Yeah? All right, well let's take a
break and when we come back, we'll finally talk about home.
So don't go round anywhere. All right, We're back here

(18:08):
on ready to retro. I'm half asleep, I'm.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Here with and I'm half awake.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Hey together, we're kind.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Of alive and listening is hopefully awake too.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
All right, So, Chelsea, as mentioned, we talked about Home alone.
I think in season one, I think I think it
was season one. Should go back to that. But you know,
preparation not a high priority here on radio records, But
can you give a plot summary of Home alone two
lost in New York?

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Okay, well, you know, dang, they left their kid again
right this time dummies not at home. He flew to
New York. He was supposed to fly to Florida. They're
going to Florida, right, and he didn't make the flight
and he gets he goes to New York instead because

(19:07):
that's a better place to go for Christmas. Right in Florida.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Absolutely, he didn't want to go to Florida because they
don't have Christmas trees. Palm trees.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
Right, you can decorate a palm tree, It's just not
the same thing.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
I've lived in southern California my whole life. I've never
had a palm tree. Could Christmas?

Speaker 3 (19:26):
You could decorate?

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Good?

Speaker 3 (19:27):
But yeah no. And so his family is in Florida,
he's in New York. He's lost. It's home alone too,
lost in New York. Guess who's there? It's the web Bandits.
Of all places there in New York.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Now that the Sticky Bandits.

Speaker 3 (19:45):
Now that the Sticky Bandits. Imagine that he decides to
stay at uh which hotel? Is Plaza Hotel, the Plaza Hotel,
and I.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Want to I want to get back into the Plaza
Hotel because there's some some stuff I want to share
with you and the listeners about the Plaza Hotel, the
Plaza Hotel.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
This is a movie that I quote a lot. Really, Yeah,
it's it's it's probably all year long. This is a
very quotable movie for my family and my friends. We
say things from it all the time.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
I always quote, wow, what a hole?

Speaker 3 (20:27):
What a hole.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
I won't say what one of us, but you.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Know, yeah, that's that is a quote. It's just it's
so good. I love both films, but I've definitely seen
this one more. It's not it doesn't have the heart
of the first one. I feel like it does have heart.
They do because with the you know, with the bird
Lady that there's a little bit there.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
They don't even know her name.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
What is her name?

Speaker 2 (20:54):
I don't know, it's the birdle you know, old man
Marley right, yeah, but you know on this susbably like.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
A sweet place where she lives. Don't she live like
in an opera house?

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Yeah, she's Scottish too, or from the UK.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
So they put that in there. That's basically the plot. Guys,
he's Home Alone, but he's in He's in New York
during Christmas time. He runs into the Bandits again. He
has to get away from them again, but with New
York elements. Tim Curry is in it, Guys. Rob Schneider

(21:28):
the lady that was also in Adam's Family, that's right.
I like her too.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
So I looked on IMDb because I'm like, what is
this chick's name? It literally says pigeon lady, Like, that's
that's her name, doesn't have a name, Brenda, Yeah, she's
in something else, like a lot of stuff, well known actress,
and she was saying like, yeah, I've been in a
lot of you know, prestigious film and theater, but I'm

(22:01):
known for Home Alone too.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
So yeah, she definitely is probably known the most.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
For that as the pigeon Lady. She didn't even have
a freaking name. That's wild. I was like, but yeah,
it's pigeon lady.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
John Hughes was like, forget it, who cares, We're just
gonna call her pigeon Lady.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
I was thinking about. I was like, the first movie
was so popular, did so well, They're like, let's do
a sequel, but like he's left a lot like this.
This family is very.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
CPS should definitely be called.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
They're they you know what I mean, they're kind of terrible.
They don't terrible.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
They don't like.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
Take care of their son.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Two times, no CPS would definitely come in.

Speaker 3 (22:48):
Yeah that's a problem.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Yeah, this is the second time. All Right, we're gonna
put your kid into the foster system for a little bit,
or we're gonna give them to well, you know, I
don't think they would give him to Uncle Fred, but
you know who knows. So yeah, so that I mean,
that's the plot, the cast, it's the same people, it's

(23:11):
the same usual suspects, except for as you mentioned, Tim Carrey,
he's the con chier. He doesn't even have a name either.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
He doesn't a name, and he's not in it like
a lot, a lot, but his anytime you see him
in this I'm just like, that's the best part for me.
Anytime Tim Curry shows up in this movie is gold
so good, so quotable. Just I love this movie. I

(23:40):
love this movie.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Rob Schneider, he plays Cedric, but he's billed as Bellman.
Eddie Brecken, who is of you know he's the.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Store owner.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Yeah, but like he's in so many things. He's also
a Rick of the Year, like he was in some stuff.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
I like to quote him in his life.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Yeah, what do you like when.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
He says two turtle doves? I say that all the time.
I love that two turtle dubs.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Oh yeah, what context here you saying that?

Speaker 3 (24:19):
I don't know. Sometimes I just think about it.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Oh so he's like, say, Brenda Fricker as the Pigeon Lady.
Did you know that Kate Hudson was in this movie?

Speaker 3 (24:31):
No, where is she in the movie?

Speaker 2 (24:33):
So she is in the choir in the very beginning,
but you know that's what she claims. Apparently she there's
no like shot of her, like, oh yeah, that's Kate Hudson.
She just recently went on her brother's podcast and said
that that was true, that she was part of the choir.

(24:54):
So let's tick her word for it, right, Yeah, okay,
I love I love.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
In nineties movies, they're always have kids in a school
play or in a choir, like they always like, you know,
like Hook does that Home Alone, Adam's Family Some many
movies have these little scenes of plays.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
I love that definitely, Chris Columbus makes a cameo in this.
He's he's in Duncan's toy store. So he has his
daughter in Duncan's toy chest. Sorry, my bad, Duncan's toy chest,
all right, turtled dump in his arms is his real daughter,

(25:36):
Eleanora Columbus, who plays Susan Bum Susan Bones. So, Eleanor Columbus,
if you're listening to this, I really doubt it, but
we'd love to have you on. Ready to retro, Come
come on, come on over. We could talk all things retro.

Speaker 3 (25:55):
You're gonna love it.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
You're gonna love it. Plus, you were one of the
producers of d and I love that movie, so why
don't you come on over and talk about it. Also,
you're a I don't know if you know this, Eleanor,
but you are also a co producer of Nostratu, so
we'd love to talk about that.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Did you say, I don't know if you know this,
but you are a producer, like she doesn't know.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
That she's That was the joke.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
Oh okay, sorry, joke all right.

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Also in this is the forty seventh President of the
United States, Donald J. Trump.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
Yeah, everyone calls that the Jump Scare in the Trump Scare,
The Trump Scare, The Trump According.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
To IMDb, apparently he allowed the production and the crew
to actually film at the Plaza Hotel, which he owned
at the time. I don't think he owns it, and
he allowed them to like film in the lobby and
in one of the suites. The only caveat was that

(27:06):
he wanted to be in it and do a cameo.
And of course he didn't do it for free. It
was the standard price. But he's like, hey, I'll throw
in a little bit more. Well, we'll give you like this, like,
you know, lobby scene. And he was, you know, you'd
throwing a little bit more in order to get his
face in there.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
So when I was a kid and that part would
come on, my parents would be like, oh, that's that's
Donald Trump. And I would be like, who's that? Like
I have no idea, you know. Now I'm like, well
he kind of everyone knows who that now. Yeah, But
like as a kid, I was like, oh, this is
like a nothing cameo for a child.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Was that that's the long run, you know, he was
trying to.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
It starts it starts at home alone too.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Yeah, He's the long game, you know, He's like, yeah,
I'm going to be a two time present political assassination
attempt bring down grocery prices. Like it was all the
long run, you know, it all starts with Home Lost
in New York. Absolutely. Also last cameo and I couldn't

(28:13):
believe it took me this long to realize who that was.
But did you know that Ali Sheety's in this movie?

Speaker 3 (28:20):
No? Yeah, wait, wait wait a minute, yes, is she in?
Tell me? Yeah, this sounds familiar.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
So she's the ticket agent in New York when when
Kevin goes to the counter, goes, Okay, what's it is
that she goes New York?

Speaker 5 (28:43):
Sir?

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Is there a problem?

Speaker 7 (28:45):
Sir?

Speaker 2 (28:45):
That's that's Ali Sheety. But she has such a weird haircut,
and she's all, she looks so different, so different. But
I was like looking at it, and I don't know why.
I've never really gone through like the IMDb on this one,
but I was like looking, I was like, why does
she looks so familiar? And then I looked at it.
I was like, oh my god, it's really like But

(29:06):
then once I saw it, I was like, oh, that
is her, you know, but she looks so different. That's
the thing. She looks so different everything she's in, but
it makes.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
She does, you know John a little yeah, a.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Little piece over there. So yeah, So I mean everyone's back, McCaulay,
Cochin's back, Joe Patty's back, Daniel Stern, O'Hara, John Hurd, Devin.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Is John Hurd. Is he dead?

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah, he passed away. Yeah, that's right, he passed away.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
I think I saw him once in person because he
was in this movie that my friend was in. But yeah,
I actually forgot.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Yeah, yeah, I really like. Oh he was in Sharknado, Sharknado,
he's in Big. I like him in Big, and oh
he isn't honestly the out of this whole list right now,
the biggest actor right now now is Kieran Cocon.

Speaker 3 (29:54):
That guy is Oh my gosh, yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
He's killing it. I was watching what I think Katherine Era.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
People really talk about her.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Of course, yeah, it's between Katherine O'Hair and but I'm
just saying, like, right now, right now.

Speaker 3 (30:07):
Yeah, what's his name? Go easy on the PEPSI, what's
his name? Fuller Buller, go easy on the.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Which I noticed he's freaking coke in this one. So
it looks like Coke got the rights to this movie. Yeah,
it's a bigger it's a bigger yeah, speaking a bigger budget.
Let's go into the fun. Facts with Max. I wish
I had a little jingle like your little jingle.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Chelsea, but well you'll have to create one.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
Oh I do have one. Oh do you remember the
one I played for you and Uh and Jesse?

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Yeah? It was really long.

Speaker 2 (30:50):
Yeah, I think we should play it again. Okay, Okay,
let's play it. Hold on. This is Facts with Max.
Facts with Max. This is the part of the show
where Max gives you interesting information about the movie or
TV show or album or whatever we're talking about. So

(31:10):
is that further dude? Take it away, Max, Take it away,
Max and give us some facts with Max. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
You know what I like about it is it's real
catchy and memorable, and I feel like I would be
able to I think I'm just gonna you know what
I mean. It's really it's kind of like O'Reilly auto parts,
very similar kind of jingle.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Oh my gosh, I forgot that sounded like he recorded
it once that.

Speaker 3 (31:40):
We the listeners are loving it, loving Oh, what's the
what's what's Susan Bones's name again in real life?

Speaker 2 (31:50):
What's her name? Eleanor Columbus, eleanor Columbus.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
If you're listening and you heard that jingle, you know
what we're so, come on in.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
We got on the podcast a one class act talent here.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
We're professionals. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Oh, I forgot how bad that was? All right? I
enjoy it. Okay, it was great. Okay. So this movie
Home al On two, Lost in New York came out
November twentieth, nineteen ninety two. I think I was out
of diapers by then. Maybe notine I was two, I
think I might have still been in diapers, all right.

(32:34):
The estimated budget was twenty eight million dollars, and it
grossed worldwide three hundred fifty eight point nine million dollars.
So basically this is almost three hundred and sixty million dollars,
just shy of three forty nine. So this was a juggernaut,

(32:55):
just like the first one was.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Did it make more money than the first one?

Speaker 2 (32:59):
You know, that's a question.

Speaker 5 (33:00):
Let me.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
I'd really like to know, all right, But out of
that twenty eight million dollars, do you know how much
mcula cocin made.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Not not a reasonable amount.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Like as far as too low or too high.

Speaker 3 (33:19):
Wait a minute, because now I'm thinking his parents took
his money.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
Right, So how much did he get paid to do this,
whether his parents.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
Still story, I don't know a lot.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
He got paid four point five million.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Dollars, and I think his parents took it.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
Yep, greedy bastards. All right, So the first movie made
almost five hundred million, so this one, the first one,
did better than the second one, which actually no, sequels
tend to do better. Sequels tend to make more money.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
So this did? This did more?

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Yeah, the first one did.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
The first one, well, the first one did more. Oh sorry, okay.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
But I'm I mean Home Alone two only crackly ten
million dollars or more. Critically, what critically?

Speaker 3 (34:07):
I don't think people liked it as.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Much because it's not as good. Yeah, but this is
something that Chelsea and I always argue about. Yeah, it's
better Home Alone or Home Alone two.

Speaker 3 (34:20):
I have more memories with this one that I think.
It's really it's not even like a good or bad thing,
it's I have so much more nostalgia with this one.
For some reason, we watched this one more than the original.
Maybe my parents liked it more, and that's that's why. Yeah,
but when I think at home alone I think about this.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Movie, it's definitely like way more like just let's do
everything we did in the first one, just amp at
a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
It's less believable, you know. So there's that.

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Yeah. So they did film this on location, but they
also filmed it Hollywood, which I really liked the scenes
that are on location, specifically, like the Plaza Hotel. I'm
pretty sure that might be Central Perk. I'm not sure,
maybe it's not, but I know, like when they're walking
in the city, I mean, he's there at Rockefeller, like
that's all legit. Did you know that the Talkboy was

(35:18):
actually not a real thing when this movie was just
released and stuff. So it wasn't until the popularity of
the movie where they really realized, hey, let's release the Talkboy.
I had a Talkboy. No, no, it was a prop.
I mean it out.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
That's blowing my mind.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
And then Tiger saw what was going on and was like, hey,
we can profit off of this, and I had a
talk Boy. I loved it to this day, Chelsea. I
don't know where my talkboy went. And I it when
I was in college or maybe when I first got married.
I know that there was a chest full of my

(35:58):
toys and it was in the shed outside and the
shed kind of collapsed because it was old, and this
trunk that all the toys are were like super wet
and they all got thrown away. And I didn't know
this until like ten ten years after the fact. I
asked my dad, whatever happened to that trunk, like, oh,
that was gone a long time ago. Oh you guys

(36:20):
kill me for my toys or try to jerks. It
sucks out when you move out. If you're listening to this,
chances are you've moved out.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
Sometimes you move out, sometimes you move back. You know,
you life. Life's fun life anyways.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
So but even if you have like a boxer or
something like at your parents house and just grab it,
you're better off getting it. Yea, then it's your fault. Okay,
So back to facts with the Max.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
We should say that should we play the the.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
I don't think we have enough time. That's a really
long intro. So the director Chris Columbus, who did the
first one, is back, and so is John Hughes, the
legendary John Hughes. He wrote the first one. He's back.
So same team, same team, same writers, same cinematographers, they're
all back. Last thing I want to mention is, actually,
did you know frank Oz makes a cameo in this one?

(37:22):
And I forgot to mention that Oz. Yeah, you know
your dow Yeah, I know the legendary.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
This movie that I had no idea.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Yeah, dude, frank Oz makes a little cameo and apparently
he's in it. When Harry and Marv they leave the
fish Market and walk down the street, Marsh steals money
from the Red Donation can you know. Yeah, now they're
the Sticky band. It's whatever. Frank Oz placed his money
into the Red Donation can and walks away. So he's

(37:53):
in this movie. Bottom That's cool. Not he's like, you know,
just background, but he's there. Wow, you say you have
a story show, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
I have a story. It's a story that was first
told on the nerd Twins podcast.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
There We Please tell.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Yeah. So me and Tess did an episode of the
nerd Twins called I think it was something like Universal
Monsters with aj Dana, who is a super cool guy
you can look up on Instagram. He is so freaking
cool and he was nice enough to be on our
podcast and he I don't know why we even got

(38:35):
to this point in the story. But so Tim Curry
is in Home Alone Too, as we have been saying.
He's the concierge and he's my favorite part in the
movie because I'm just a huge Tim Curry fan. Well, unfortunately,
you know, Tim Curry had a stroke probably around twenty twelve.
It's been a long time now, so he's in a

(38:56):
wheelchair and everything and stuff, and it's said but so anyways,
so he was doing meat. He's after this stroke and stuff,
he's still doing meat and greats and things like that.
So Aj and his mom. Aj was like younger, and
he said he was maybe in Gosh Junior hire something.
So him and his mom go and meet Tim Curry.
I forget where. So they had devised a plan that

(39:19):
when they met him, they were going to kind of
do like a little like bit like with him, like
to in front of him. So they walk up to
Tim Curry, they get on their knees and they say
we love you because in Home Alone Too, like he
uses the the movie from the original, you know, get

(39:41):
on your knees and tell me you love me. And
you know, Tim Curry thinks person. So Tim Curre gets
on the PHN He's like, I love you. Like the
way he says it is so good. So they basically
imitated that to Tim, got on their knees and did that.
Tim Curry and Tim Curry kind of did a little
chuckle and smile, and he was I think he enjoyed it.

(40:01):
I don't know from the pretty stroke this no, this
was after the stroke after so yeah, so he's in
the wheelchair and everything.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
So how old is this guy you were interviewing, because
twenty twelve was a j.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
Is like he was a kid ages like mid twenties.
Oh okay, he was like twenty three.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
Oh wow, he's young.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Yeah, he's kind of a young guy. Yeah, so this
was he was little. He looked he was I think
he was saying he was like maybe probably ten years
prior to that. Probably he's like thirteen or something like that. Yeah,
like you know, so anyway, I just thought every time
now because of that story he told me, and because

(40:45):
of that, I always think about when he told me
that when he met Tim Curry, they did that in
front of him Currey. I thought that was really just
like Tim prey. Well, you know, I'm sure he was.
I'm sure he was enjoyed it enough. But I thought that.

Speaker 2 (40:57):
Was, like, I don't get it.

Speaker 5 (40:59):
What you get it?

Speaker 3 (41:01):
Well, these people love him, that's all that's It's all
they can take from them is that they love them.
But anyway, Yeah, that's so if you want to listen
to it, I probably butchered the heck out of that story.
But if you want to go.

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Listen to that, just just go over to the Nerd
Twins and check it out.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
Yeah, just listen to the Universal Monster to the episode of.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
A Yeah awesome, So great. Well, we are going to
take a quick break, and when we come back, we're
going to give our thoughts on Home Alone Too, Lost
in New York, give a little bit of our favorite scenes,
favorite characters, and I have a point to make about
Kevin and his family at the very end. All right,

(41:44):
we'll be right back. All right, we're back here on

(42:12):
Radio Retro. We are talking about Home Alone Too, Loston,
New York. So, Chelse, this was a big movie growing up.
It was a big movie for me as well. So
what are some of your favorite lines or things that
you just appreciate about this one?

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Pretty much the whole time he's using the talk boy
to get the room at the Plaza Hotel. Anytime credit
card is brought up between me and my one friend
or my dad or whatever, we'll always say credit card,
you got it. I mean we always say that. I

(42:50):
say that to a lot all the time. Yeah, you know,
keep like from the original, keep the change and fielding,
and we always say that. Or oh, my favorite line is.

Speaker 7 (43:03):
Pizza the way he says pizza.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
That's my That's another favorite of mine. Yeah. Two Turtle Doves.
A lot of random lines in it. Wow, what a hole,
what a That's so good. It's it's so good. Yeah,
I just I just love this movie. And a lot

(43:28):
of it is Yeah, like I said, a lot of
it's Tim Curry. But you don't really see much of
his family. I mean, like in the original, you don't
see that much of his family. But Catherine Harra does
a good job and just all, you know, all the
Christmas stuff in New York. I don't know, it's just
it's great.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
I like the little banter things in this one, like
I don't know, just like the little subtle things. I
always laugh when John Hurd goes, what when when when
the credit card. Yeah, when they're passing off Kevin's bag
and they go, Kevin's out here, Kevin's not here. And
then you know the mom she gives it back to

(44:07):
the dad and you know, Catherine Hair gives it to
John Hurd and she goes, Kevin's not here, and he
just goes what I had.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
At me and my family we got together, my dad's side,
we got together and did like a little Christmas lunch
and she s kick factoring. We did like a white
elephant gift thing. And I have an uncle, Kevin, and
so he was sitting on one end of the table
and so everybody just kept it was It reminds me
because they were like, oh, passes Kevin, pass it to Kevin.
Passes Kevin, and I saw Kevin's like here, Ken's here.

(44:35):
Kem's like it's.

Speaker 2 (44:36):
Really funny, really get on. Uh, But speaking of uncle's
uncle Frank dude, dad, Yeah, it is freaking hilarious. And
this one he's so good dude, Like in the very beginning,
this cracks me up. And I don't know, I mean
it's out there so maybe everyone notices, but it's this

(45:00):
scene where you know, Kevin punches buzz and everybody falls
and apparently yeah, Kate Hudson's there too. But anyways, the
whole time, you know, Uncle Frank is cracking up. And
then when when the tree falls on the pianist and
she falls, and then everyone's quiet, and he goes, ha.

(45:21):
And I didn't really notice is at the very end
when they're I have all these gifts from mister Duncan
and you know, they're in the in the suite and stuff,
and they're opening Presence. I'd never noticed this, but like
Buss says, all right, I think Kevin should open this

(45:42):
first gift and blah blah blah, and Uncle Frank goes,
all right, Kevin. And as he's saying that, he's looking
through the Presence to see which once is his little things.
Oh my god, Uncle Frank is so funny.

Speaker 3 (45:58):
Like what does he called in the first one, He's like,
get out of here, No.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
That's in this one. This one yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He's in the shower.

Speaker 3 (46:10):
Yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
He goes, uh, well, there's a lot of stuff. He goes,
get out of here. You got your little proper, all slappy, silly, Yeah,
that's it. But then when well before that, you know,
Kevin's telling us dad why he can't go in. He goes.
Uncle Frank says, if I ever go in there, I
would never look at myself as a man again, or

(46:32):
something along like that. His dad laughs. So I think, like,
you know, they have a good relationship. I think Kevin's
dad and Uncle Frank, even though Uncle Frank's a piece
of work. But the older I get, the more I'm like, oh,
I understand you, Uncle Frank. You know, like you're a
funny guy. It's the World Trade Center scene is always

(46:55):
a weird one now where he's taking pictures on this
polaroid on the top of the World Aid Center. That's
just always just like, oh, that's so weird. It also
dates the movie, but it's also like crazy that that
building's not there anymore. Yeah, and why and just.

Speaker 3 (47:11):
Like yeah, it's like it's weird. I'm glad I got
to visit it and go to the top when I did, I.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Never seen it. I was there the summer after nine
to eleven.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
I was there in nineteen ninety seven, crazy went to
the very top.

Speaker 2 (47:28):
Yeah, I was there I think July or August of
twenty eleven, which was wild because there was just like
you know, pretty much debris. Still there was like a
hole and then there were still a lot of missing
photos of people that were deteriorated at that point, but
they were they were there.

Speaker 3 (47:48):
Wo.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
Yeah, it's crazy, all right, fun stuff, all right. You
know what's crazy about this movie A little litle kind
of not plot hole but little unrealistic. How good of
a liar Kevin is? Yeah, I mean it's what yeah,
like to like trick.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
The the hotels.

Speaker 2 (48:11):
Yeah, the cel staff, and like how clever he is.
I mean, like Kevin's probably either a he's in jail,
like he's doing the bitcoin stuff and he's like that
Maxwell Friedman guy, Yeah, whatever, that guy his name is,
or like he's just like still in the you know,

(48:31):
the upstairs. He's in the attic, just like coding or something.

Speaker 3 (48:34):
I recently saw a picture the news was saying, I
don't know where it was at, but it had all
the other children from the movie, like except for like Macaulay,
the Culkins weren't.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
There, but like, oh this was last week.

Speaker 3 (48:49):
Mike Mike, Uh, what's his name? Rona Corona?

Speaker 2 (48:53):
Mike, Mike Sharona, No, uh, Morona, Morona.

Speaker 3 (48:57):
He was there. Devin rat Trey was there.

Speaker 2 (49:01):
Yeah, you're talking about the the reunion that they did
last last This was like last week in your picture. Yeah,
first time ever they did a home alone kids reunion
without I mean, you can't have that or too big
now I know, way too big. So yeah, I mean
buzz in this one, he's he's he's actually a little

(49:25):
more sly. He's not as stupid, and the first one
he's stupid, and it's funny when he goes a B
and three he is like he's like reasons, like little
subtle things.

Speaker 3 (49:42):
That's funny.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
He's a little more I mean, he's just more of
a jerk on this.

Speaker 5 (49:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:47):
Oh what's really cool is this is the first time
I've watched Home Alone and since I've been to the house.

Speaker 3 (49:56):
Yeah that's right.

Speaker 2 (49:58):
Yeah, bring that up with our buddy Joey. But he's
not here.

Speaker 3 (50:02):
But the first movie the interiors were filmed, was that
the one where they used like an old school to
film in. That's the first one, right.

Speaker 2 (50:12):
Yeah, yeah, and then I'm not I think this one
it was on location, but it was also they filmed
it in Hollywood.

Speaker 3 (50:19):
Also, another scene that I really like is just when
Kevin's just like chucking bricks.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
I love it and the sound effect good. Daniel Stern
gets messed up. Oh yeah, there's a YouTube video over
there where there's like a actual medical doctor.

Speaker 3 (50:44):
And he explained completely like he.

Speaker 2 (50:47):
Goes, oh, yeah, that was a head trauma. That's probably
a stage street concussion, depending on where the brick hits. Yeah,
you know, your brain could have been damaged from it.

Speaker 3 (50:58):
The movies where people was like a frying pan to
like defend themselves. Oh yeah, yeah, you frying pan to
the head, you're you could they could die from that.

Speaker 2 (51:09):
It kills orcs man like you can with a frying pan.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
But yeah, those those him chucking those bricks at him.
I mean, what a movie? What that is cinema? You know?
So I love that.

Speaker 2 (51:21):
Did you notice that there's stripe fruit gum that Kevin
gives to Sidric. Yes, that's his tip.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
It's it's oh yes, yeah, yeah, he's waiting for it.

Speaker 7 (51:34):
Yeah yeah, and he goes, no tip, okay, no, no, no, oh,
this whole thing okay.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
So I think when it comes to Old Man Marley
Yea and The Pigeon Lady, yeah, they basically do the
same movie, right exactly. Yeah, it's not very creative. Yeah, basically,
which is fine. I mean they're gonna make the movie.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
Yeah, he's setting up a trap at one point.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
I don't think I wanted to make a sequel, but
it made too much money that I think he just
had to.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
He's eating ice cream, He's he's running from the band.
It's he's getting you know, he's found someone to bond with,
you know, Christmas.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
His parents. He has money in this one, and he's
going out.

Speaker 3 (52:27):
In the bout a little bit more exactly, so.

Speaker 2 (52:30):
You have to like steal buzzes stash.

Speaker 3 (52:33):
I mean literally today I was like thinking, I really
liked this movie a lot, but I was thinking, Wow,
what a ridiculous, like like movie to make a sequel from, Like,
it's very strange. Did you ever see Home on three?

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Yes? I have.

Speaker 3 (52:50):
Yeah, that's rough.

Speaker 1 (52:51):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (52:51):
I don't think i'll ever watch that ever again. Don't
make me watch that? Can we not?

Speaker 2 (52:55):
Not?

Speaker 3 (52:55):
I don't want to do.

Speaker 2 (52:56):
I watched the new one that came out a few
years ago.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
I heard that was not good.

Speaker 2 (53:00):
That was what is that Home alone again?

Speaker 3 (53:02):
Who the kid? Who's the kid in it? It's the kid.

Speaker 2 (53:04):
From some British kid.

Speaker 3 (53:06):
Yeah, he was he's in.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
A run Jojo Rabbit?

Speaker 3 (53:11):
Is it him? No?

Speaker 2 (53:13):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (53:14):
Oh wait, yes, it's not the main kid. It's like
another kid in the movie.

Speaker 2 (53:17):
Yeah yeah, the site. Yeah, the one who has the
fictional imaginary friend is Hitler.

Speaker 3 (53:24):
Yeah, well that's that's the main Yeah, that's the main
guy he has that.

Speaker 2 (53:27):
Yeah. Yeah, oh that's the main guy his friend.

Speaker 3 (53:31):
Yeah. Have you seen that movie Joji Rabbit?

Speaker 2 (53:34):
Yeah? Yeah, I saw it when it came out. It's
been a.

Speaker 3 (53:37):
While, that movie.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
Yeah, yeah, No, there's like a bunch of there's there's
Home Alone four taking Back the House Wow, And uh,
that's with what's his face from the Rock from the Sun.
That's with French Stewart.

Speaker 3 (53:52):
Ny should do and just like Home Not Alone and
it's just him alone with all.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
Then there's Home Alone The Holiday Heist, which I've never seen.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
How many Home Alone movies that came.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
Out in twenty twelve? Uh, how many?

Speaker 3 (54:07):
Talking five?

Speaker 2 (54:08):
I guess they're six, jeez.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
But the newest Home Alone didn't come out to theaters, right,
was it?

Speaker 2 (54:15):
Just like it was Disney Plus. So there's Home Alone
one and two. Of course, there there's Home Alone three,
and I think the kid's name was Max right, No,
maybe not. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (54:27):
I think that you've seen it like once, but.

Speaker 2 (54:29):
James Sido's in it, and James Sido was Shredder. He
played Shredder, okay, and so Scarlett, Joe Scarlett Johansen's.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
The shoot Yeah, oh you know what it is.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
It's the kid played Max Keeble, that's why.

Speaker 3 (54:44):
Oh yeah, that's right, that's that kid.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
Yeah yeah, Alex Keeler, Max Keeler, Max Keepler. Yeah. So
there's that one, and then there's Home Alone four taking
Back the Home that has a two point six on IMDb,
then Home Alone the Holiday High, which I don't even know,
and then the last one that came out was at
twenty twenty one. Yeah, it was called Home Sweet Home Alone.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (55:11):
Yeah, that one was not good, Like I watch it,
I don't even remember. But Ellie Kemper's.

Speaker 3 (55:15):
There, yes in that, Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 2 (55:19):
Yeah. So a lot of Home alans and uh, this
one's the second best one. But uh, other than that,
let's see what else are we missing? Oh? I love
the line where Kevin goes another Christmas in the trenches
like he's ready for war, dude, he is for battle. Yeah,
and another line is you can mess with a lot

(55:39):
of things, but you can't mess with kids on Christmas.
That's like a threat, dude. Yeah, it's like that's like psychotic,
psycho killer stuff. Don't mess with it.

Speaker 3 (55:49):
Yeah, and the.

Speaker 2 (55:50):
Last line, what kind of idiots do you have working here?
The finest in New York?

Speaker 3 (55:56):
That is good? That is good.

Speaker 2 (56:00):
Oh, okay, real quickly, Chelse, So let's talk about the
Plaza the Plaza Hotel. Okay, all right, because this year,
I think this is the first time they've ever done this,
but they have a the Plaza Hotel Home Alone experience.
So this is on their website. This is called the
Plaza New York. And I don't know why this is

(56:22):
in New Jersey, but let's Oh didn't you send this
to me? This was different? So I sent you something
that like, right now, you could watch Home Alone two
on the top of the Empire State Building for like
one hundred and eighty two bucks or something like.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
Wow, that's too Yeah.

Speaker 2 (56:43):
Like just that's your experience. And then this one is
through the Plaza Hotel. So here it is this. I'm
gonna give you the whole app all right. Yeah, it's
a lot of reading. Don't stay Home Alone. This December,
the Plaza in New York City's most exciting hotel experience
invite you to relive scenes from the timeless holiday classic,

(57:05):
venturing Kevin's style to New Jersey Performing Arts Center and
a stretched limo stocked with an extra large Geese pizza.
Immerse yourself in a special screening of the original Home Alone,
followed by an exclusive moderated interview, an audience driven Q
and A with mccaullay cochin himself. All Right, so they've

(57:26):
been they've been doing this. COOLi Cochin has been doing
a Q and A So maybe this is this is late,
but he has been doing that as of like this week,
he's been doing Q and AK. Yeah, immortalized the special
moment with a hands to cheek photo next to the
actor that brought the iconic Kevin mcowser to life. Yes,

(57:47):
I've seen this that he's been taking pictures. It's like
a meet and greet and Okay, he usually doesn't do this,
but now he's starting to like kind of get back
into stuff. So upon your return to the Plaza, retreat
to your luxurious suite and continue the adventure by watching
the popular nineties classic and the comfort of your extra
large bed. Two scoops make it sixteen sixteenth scoops, but

(58:14):
then over the top ice cream Sunday service as you
relive the magic of this beloved sequel Plaza style. So
package includes two night minimum stay at the Plaza. Stay
dates exclusively from December twelfth to the fourteenth or December
thirteenth to fifteenth, so this was literally last week. Two

(58:35):
complimentary VIP tickets to Nostalgic Night with mccaullay Cocine featuring
a special screening of Home Alone at the New Jersey
Performing Art Center on December thirteenth at eight o'clock. Blah
blah blah okay. Tickets also include a photo op. Next
thing is a round trip transportation in a stretched limo
complete with an extra large cheese pizza and ice cold

(58:58):
Coca Cola. Just like having you also get a Sunday
in room dining sixteen scoops of assortment of ice cream,
whipped cream, cherries, em and MS, brownie bits, chocolate caramel
and raspberry sauce. That's exactly what Kevin had. Guess how
much all this is?

Speaker 3 (59:17):
How much?

Speaker 2 (59:19):
Starting at six thousand dollars No wow, Wow, starting starting starting. Yeah,
my gosh.

Speaker 3 (59:31):
I thought you were gonna say, like, guess of ding
Dang dong or whatever whatever the thing they're watching it for.

Speaker 2 (59:38):
Again, No, six thousand dollars. So that just happened. Last week.
I was seeing things on the internet about those pictures
that were taken with Macaulay Cocaine, and I know he
did one in Detroit, and I guess he did one
in New Jersey.

Speaker 3 (59:53):
So I'm so curious, Like I'd love to, like if
I'd love if somebody made like a vlog about their
full experience of that, Like that would be interesting to see.

Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
I'm sure it's on YouTube.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
It has to be.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
It's got to be some influence.

Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
Somebody did it for the content.

Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
You know, Yeah, absolutely, but six grand? Who's paying six
grand for content creating? But yeah, the Plaza Hotel, So
Jazz and I were just in New York like six
weeks ago and I looked it up. I was like,
you know, we're looking for a place to say, how
much is the Plaza? Like I don't know anything about it? Yeah,

(01:00:30):
it's uh it starked at sixteen Yes, wow, starting So
it's all sweets. There's no like basic room. It's all luxurious,
like it's it's Donald trump Man. You know, everything's gold
and luxurious. So I wanted to bring that up because

(01:00:52):
you can't talk about Home Alone two without talking about
the apply.

Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
I think when I went as a kid, my family
probably pointed it out because we liked, you know, Home
Alone two so much. So I'm sure my dad or
whoever was with me, like probably pointed out and said,
there it is from the movie.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
One last thing, Chelse, I want to mention, I really
like the end song where it goes Kevin Use, you know,
and then goes and then it goes Myrick Christmas, Merrick
Christmas Season, my Red Chris bos my Red Christmas.

Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
No no no, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
No, no no no. Yeah, that's all good. I don't
hear it much at like the mall or on Coast
one O three point five, which is the Christmas station
out here in LA. But you know what I like it.

Speaker 3 (01:01:43):
I feel like Coast one or three point five should
play like the theme to Home Alone occasionally they can
throw that in there.

Speaker 2 (01:01:50):
Yeah why not? Why not?

Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
There was some John Williams up in there.

Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
Oh, by the way, speaking of all that Sunday and stuff,
So you know, for For the most part, Kevin gets
that whole experience for free, the sweet, the limo, all
that stuff. It's all the hotel pace for it. But

(01:02:16):
what does not get comped, yeah, is his room service,
which in nineteen ninety two, nine hundred and sixty seven
dollars and forty three cents is equivalent to now two
thousand and forty nine dollars and forty two cents. I
did a inflation calculating. Could you imagine your little ten

(01:02:38):
year old, little turn of a kid spent twenty one
hundred dollars on ice cream.

Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
And pizza and limos.

Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
That kid is going to be an orphan.

Speaker 3 (01:02:50):
That kid's a baller, though. Man like that Freeze like
to say that you did that dang.

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
All right, Well, we're gonna take our last break, and
when we come back, we're gonna give our rating and
final thoughts on home alone. Two loss in New.

Speaker 4 (01:03:03):
York man Benitas sing a song for the Sayson Let
it SMAs len It SMAs sing a.

Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Song all right, welcome back to ready to retro Chelse.
There's one thing I know, I keep on saying one
more thing, Yeah, like you know, like Jackie Chan's adventures.
You know, uncles like one more thing so, but that's

(01:03:38):
how I feel like right now more thing?

Speaker 8 (01:03:40):
So?

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Can I just say that Kevin and his parents are
kind of trash, like they don't have the warm feeling
of generosity of Christmas because Kevin runs out and was like, Hey,
I just got this awesome sweet for free with my family.
I got, you know, all these free toys and stuff. Yeah,

(01:04:05):
what's the lady get pageant? Lady, you get two turtles
or you get a turtle?

Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
Get one turtle?

Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Does? Like his dad's rich, like we've already kind of
established his house. Yeah, his house is like I think
that sold for like twelve million dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:04:22):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Also he took all of his like family from Chicago
to Paris, right, and all the adults were in first class.
So this guy's got money and he's paying twenty one
hundred dollars nowadays nine hundred and sixty seven dollars on
ice cream. They don't think that. Kevin's not like, hey

(01:04:45):
you want to meet my family, or hey, you're out
here on Christmas like feeding the birds, Like do you
want to come in? Do you want some?

Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:04:55):
Am I wrong on that one?

Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
Uh? No? I think you're right, like, he why didn't
he help her out more? But maybe I don't know.
And it's like you can't say he's a dumb kid.
He's pretty smart.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
But yes, we've established that he's pretty savvy. Yeah, so
he knows maybe he's like stranger danger right, Like I'm
gonna know. She saved him multiple times. She spent Christmas
Eve with him. She gave him hot chocolate and warmth,
and well I guess he paid for it, but still
she she gave him shelter. And here she is on

(01:05:28):
Christmas morning. This kid's running out in his you know,
his robe from this luxurious hotel that we just learned,
as you know at least that that was probably ten
thousand dollars. Yeah, in that suite, you know easily there's
no hey once't you come up? Or he do you
want me to get you know, some room service for you?

(01:05:51):
What a jerk?

Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
Nothing? Yeah, terrible.

Speaker 2 (01:05:56):
As Also, this movie has gun violence, sexual assault, yeah,
prostitutes in it.

Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
Yeah, oh yeah, wild, I mean that just makes it better.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
You would never see a kid's movie with rosstitudes gun
violence and sexual assault. Yeah, no, nineteen ninety two, what
a wild time? All right? So final thoughts and rating
here on Radio Retro our rating system is out of ten,
and we do it and a noun or a phrase

(01:06:34):
or a quote. So, for example, if we were reviewing
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or The Philosopher's Stone,
we would give it ten out of ten. Susan Bones
because eleanor Columbus, seriously check your dms. You have an
invitation there, all right? Anyways, So Chelse, do you want

(01:06:57):
to go first?

Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
I'll go first. Final thoughts. I like this movie more
than the first one. I know that's a wild thing
to say. First of not to say that the first
one isn't a fantastic family film. I love it so much,
but I just have more nostalgia with this one, and

(01:07:21):
so many, so many bonus points because of the Curry presence.
So yeah, I love this movie. It's probably it's one
of my favorite Christmas movies. And I give Home Alone Too,
Lost to New York eight out of ten pizzas sas.

Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
Yeah, So I just thought about it. Should we call
a movie with Tim Curry? Should we call it this
has been curry sauce? Like there's some curry sauce, there's some.

Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Curry sauce in it. It got some spice, It's got
some curry.

Speaker 2 (01:07:58):
I kind of like that. Yeah, like oh yeah, congo.
Oh yeah, you remember it's got some curry sp Tim
Curry is in it. Yeah, oh yeah, you know while
Thornberry's yeah, Nigel Thornberry curry sauce. Yeah yeah, I like that.
All right, we're gonna coin that. Yeah all right, good thing.

(01:08:19):
We're keeping this a secret and no one can hear this.

Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Yeah, well they gotta, like, you know, trademark.

Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
Yeah all right. So final thoughts, Chelsea, I still have
so much to talk about this movie, but I think
we'll just do We'll just we'll just end it for now.
We'll pick it up another time, maybe next year or something.
Because we got to have Joey from Ninja.

Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Yeah, I need I need some of that on here.
You know. We need Joey expertise.

Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
Chicago and Kevin mcowisers from Chicago. So yeah, we need that.
But anyways, because I didn't even talk about the Super
Nintendo game that's awful that I actually owned. I owned
as a kid, I didn't play. It's so bad. It's
probably one of the worst games I ever played. Yes,

(01:09:07):
it is you're you're literally the first level is you're
just running away and Tim Curry's trying to catch you
and he like shakes you. And then I kid you not,
there's another level where you're like dodging a chef and
he's storing like knives or pizzas at you or something,
and every time you hit him he takes off his clothes.

(01:09:27):
He's like something whoo. And then I haven't even gotten
this far, but I've seen. Then you go into Central
Park and you are dodging pigeon turns, like the missiles
coming down. God, it's so bad. Actually, I don't know
if the Angry video Game NERD did it.

Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
I think.

Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
He had the first one. I know he did the
first one with Macaulay Colchin. I don't know if they yes. Anyways,
I could talk all about that another time. You know,
maybe next year things won't be as crazy. I doubt it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
I doubt it.

Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
I'll have a new job by then, and uh maybe
to crazy hours. So because I would love to stream playing.

Speaker 3 (01:10:12):
That game, that'd be cool.

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Yeah. Anyways, So yeah, Final Thoughts Home Alone two. It
is a standard sequel. They take everything that they did
in the first one and they ramped it up. You know,
you have Daniel Stern just in a corpse, like he's

(01:10:35):
just a skeleton, which is hilarious. Like, as a kid,
I always laughed at that part. That part's great, So
it's it's awesome. This is also kind of like maybe
the peak and start of the descend of Macaulay cocin
stardom in the nineties. So this is like, yeah, like

(01:10:56):
Home Alone, he peaked there, and then like Home Alone
two kind of starts to descend, and then we start
to get into like, you know, Richie rich territory and
stuff like that. So we did a whole McCully cocin month.
Oh yeah, you know, well McCully cocin March or mccullay
March or whatever, So go go check that out. Those

(01:11:18):
are great, But yeah, Home Alone too. It's funny. It
still holds up. I prefer the first one, but I
always watched the second one as well. So there was
a time in my life when I was a kid
I liked this one more. But you know, I think
now being an adult, I can appreciate both of them.
If I had to choose on the first one, I

(01:11:39):
still want to talk. Boy, those things are so expensive.
I wish I still had mine. I just vividly remember
getting it on a Christmas and like freaking out recording myself.
You would have a fast motion which is not in
the movie, and then a slow motion, so you just
record and then the way it would play it would
like slow it down or speed it up.

Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
Cool.

Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
Yeah, so it was cool. And then they also had
the Talk Girl, which was pink, because.

Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
Yeah, of course you got a market to girls with pink.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
But ultimately, you know, if this is not on your
rotation for Christmas or for the holiday season, give it
a try. You know, it's fun. It's fun. Super violent
like we like we mentioned, you know, prostitutes, gun violence,
and sexual assault. But it's a kid's.

Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
Merry Christmas, right, all right?

Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
So I will give Home Alone too. If I gave
eight crazy nights last week of seven, I gotta give
this one like a eight point come on Home Alone two,
a solid eight point five out of ten. I'm not
apologizing the buzz. I'd rather kiss a toilet seat. It's

(01:12:51):
good because rather than forgiveness, he would rather ye toilet.

Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
That's what I respect about Kevin.

Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
You know, he's a he's bad fouelmouth. He's a foul
mouth little boy. I love that, all right, Well thatches
a horg.

Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Yes, this is our last episode of twenty twenty four.

Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
This is it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
We are now entering into twenty twenty five. Yeah, doesn't
that seem like the freaking future?

Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
It is? It does feel like the future.

Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
Like we've done a quarter of a century. Yeah, this
new millennium.

Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
Alright, I've almost and.

Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
A half decades into the two thousands.

Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
I've almost known you for ten years.

Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
I met you in twenty fifteen, I.

Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Think, so are twenty sixteen. I'm it's it's been a.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Long time now, twenty fifteen, because it's ten years our
old project. In twenty fifteen, I went to I went
to London and you got filled in for me.

Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
Huh, okay, So I've known you. So next year, I've
known you for ten years. Yeah, that's wild. It's a
wild that's a wild time man, long time.

Speaker 2 (01:14:05):
Yeah, cool stuff. But I feel like I've known you
forever forever. Alright, Well, Chells, next time we get together. Yeah,
unless there's a special interview with Leonora. So Chell's this

(01:14:27):
is our last episode of twenty twenty four. Unless we
get with Eleanor Columbus, right, if you're listening, but or
you know, a special interview. But if not, if that
doesn't happen, we're gonna be giving. It's honestly one of
my favorite episodes.

Speaker 3 (01:14:46):
Me too.

Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
It's it's our my ranking. Chelsea's this random list because
she doesn't Yeah, I don't rank things of just top
movies we saw.

Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
It's my favorite too. It's definitely my favorite episode, and
I am very much like I can't wait to talk
about all the films of this past year.

Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
It's the one that you're consistently on.

Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
Yeah, because I love it so much, I'm always on.

Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Yeah. So I'm thinking about maybe adding another person who's
watched a lot of movies. Okay, Yeah, we'll see, because
I think we got a diverse Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
Think we should add like another person to this conversation.

Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
Someone who watches a lot of movies.

Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
Yeah, we'll fight the c find somebody, yeah that they
watched a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Yes, yeah, at least fifty movies.

Speaker 3 (01:15:33):
Fifty. Yeah, I haven't even watched fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
I know that's where we're getting another person.

Speaker 8 (01:15:39):
Okay, fair enough, fair enough, well, Chelse, Yeah, twenty four
it has been good can't wait for twenty five and
it's gonna be a fantastic time.

Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
We'll see in the future, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
Well, everybody, have a very happy holidays, Merry Christmas, happy Honukkah,
happy Kwanza, happy everything in beteen, happy Festivus, all that
good stuff. All right, we'll see you next year on
the Ready to Retro podcast. As always, We're ready to Retro?

Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
Are you?

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Are you? Are you? Are you? Are you? Are you?

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
