Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five the Fan.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
And away we go with your Wednesday, October first edition
of the Region one Sports Report. I'm Brian Yorke. It
is Wednesday. We are halfway through the week. We are
halfway to week six of the football season, Soccer almost over.
Just so many things going on in the world of sports,
and that's why you've gathered right here for another edition
of the Region one Sports Report. As always, you can
(00:36):
get in touch with the show on our social media
pages or via text, and so many of you have.
That number is two seven oh five three four forty
three oh eight. Again, two seven oh five three four
forty three oh eight. That number to get in touch
with Region one Sports. How you doing on a Wednesday,
halfway through the week. I mean it's been fine, right,
(00:58):
it's fine. I mean break is next week. Many of you,
myself included, heading on vacation for fall break, so that's
always good, right. Got a little senior itis a few
days before you leave for vacation. I can tell you
that just I don't want to do anything, like I'm
just like checked out, don't want to go. I still
got to mow my yard from all that rain we got.
Still I mowed the backyard yesterday. Kind of finish it
(01:20):
off today. I does don't wanna gotta go to the gym,
don't wanna gotta pack my clothes, don't wanna. It's just
in that lazy funk right before vacation. It's really when
you take a week off, it's it's basically three weeks.
The week before, you got a lot to do and
you got you feel a little lethargic. Then you take
the week off. Then you gotta recover when you get back.
(01:40):
So it's just a whole thing. But uh, anyway, we
are in the final week of soccer. We are in
week six of the football season, and we have fall
break coming up. It is October. It is October, believe
it or not. I don't, I can't, I won't. But
it is Before we get going too far into the
show today, I've got to tell you like it. It's Wednesday.
We're halfway through the week. The week has been going
(02:02):
okay for me, but it did not start okay. It
started on a little bit of an embarrassing note. So
I'll go ahead and tell on myself. Monday really for
the last week. Going into Monday, I knew I had
a dentist appointment. I knew it. I knew it was
on the thirtieth. I knew it. I went Monday, went
(02:23):
to the dentist, went got there right on time, sat down,
only to have only to have the sweet, sweet woman
working at the front desk to very kindly tell me
that my appointment was tomorrow. It was on Tuesday. It
was not on Monday. And I argued with her and
I said, well, I know it's on the thirtieth. Then
(02:43):
she said yes, and I went so like I'm here,
and she goes, Today's the twenty ninth. So there's that.
That's how my week started, going to the dentist two
days in a row. And listen, what Monday was not embarrassing.
It's when you go back that's embarrassing. It's the next day.
It's when you have to return and do the whole
(03:03):
like I'm here again. Eh, it's me again. Just just
can't get away from this place. Yeah, such a fun
way to start my week, Such a fun way to
get the week going. But it has gotten a little
better since then, a little, like very little. All right,
let's do that thing we do. Let's talk high school
sports here on the Region one Sports Report. Let's go
over scores from around the region on your Monday and Tuesday.
(03:24):
We'll get caught up that way, see if anything stood out,
see where things stand, and then we will get into
some football talk here on this show and get you
ready for Week six of the football season again. Wow,
all right, scores from around the region. Let's start on Monday.
We will start in boys soccer Monday. And boys soccer
you had Cordwall County beating Graves County four three, Webster
(03:47):
County took down Puduca Tilman one nil. And girls soccer
Cordwall County beat Graves County for nil. And volleyball you
had Ballad Memorial beating Mayfield three to one, Carlisle County
over Fulton County three sets to none, and Saint Mary
over Paduca Tilman three one. That's scores on Monday. Tuesday scores.
Going back to boys soccer, you had Callaway County over
(04:09):
Graves County eight nil, Mayfield over Hopkinsville three to one,
Murray over McCracken County to nil. We'll come back to
that University Hights over Marshall County to one. That's boys
soccer and girls soccer. Callaway County shuts out Graves County
eight nil. Murray and McCracken end in a tie. You know,
I love ties. Nothing more American than a tie. But
(04:31):
they ended a tie zip zip nil nil zero zero
Murray McCracken. And then Paducah and Critney County. Paducah wins
to nil over Critten And that's girl soccer. In volleyball,
Callaway County over Murray three to two, Christian Fellowship over
Carlisle County three to one, Cca over Paduca, Tillman three
to two, Huntingdon, Tennessee over Fulton City three to nothing,
(04:54):
and Mayfield over Fulton County three to one. All right,
those are your scores from around the region Monday and Tuesdays.
What stood out? Well, let's start with boys soccer. Murray
defeats McCracken County two nil. So, if you go by
how things have gone this season, if you go by
how things have shaken out, the RPI, the the overall records,
(05:15):
whatever you want to look at, Murray's been the number
one team. They remain unbeaten on the season. They do
have one tie. I love tyes seventeen to h and
one so far this year for Murray. They do have
one game left, that's tonight against Puduca Tilman. They should
win that game. But not only do they remain unbeaten,
they beat again. If you go by the RPI, if
(05:35):
you go by the standings, if you go by the records,
they beat the number two team in the region, McCracken
County two nil, McCracken eleven five and three on the season.
McCracken scene as the most likely contender to Murray this year,
and Murray holds them up. A good game, a close game,
a game that you can see. You know, one thing
we talk about. We talk about this a lot in basketball.
(05:58):
Doesn't matter where you are in the regular it's that gap.
If a team is better than you, once the gap
and can you close the gap enough to knock them
off come postseason? Two goals to none, too nil. That's
not that big of a gap. McCracken County's got a chance.
They're in the fight, they're in the fray, they have
opportunity in front of them. They are still a contender.
(06:21):
This is not Murray running away. This is Murray walking
at a pretty brisk pace. This is Murray or the
speedwalk into the postseason. But clearly McCracken County can hang
and can play and can be in this thing. That's
what that showed me. Now can they close the gap?
You only have a week, you only have the postseason
(06:41):
starts next week. I don't know, because the thing with
soccer is, even though that score looks close, and it
does sometimes in soccer, to nil can also represent a
canyon between the two teams. But that is not a
bad score. I mean, listen, they have beat other teams.
They have beat you know, Mayfield four. You know they
beat Callaway the last time they played them five to two. Like,
(07:03):
those are some pretty lopsided games. Two nil means you
have a shot. To me, at least, that's what it
looks like. But here's what it also looks like. Murray
still clearly the best team in the region. They are
going to be the best team in the region going
into the postseason, and all the pressure is gonna be
on them to win another regional title. Seventeen oh in one.
They're gonna beat Tilman tonight. They're gonna be I'm sorry
(07:25):
it's tomorrow night, but they're gonna beat Tillman tomorrow night.
They're gonna be eighteen oh in one to finish the
regular season. So that stood out from this week so far.
That's on the boys side. On the girl's side, you
had the tie, you had the tie. Of course you
had the tie. You had Murray and McCracken ending in
a tie. On the girl's side, that's always fun. I
(07:48):
just I just gotta say, we know we can figure
this out. We know these things don't have to end
in the tie, right like we know there's rules that
can get us a score in a final. I understand.
I know soccer is different. There's a these games. Can
I get it. It doesn't mean I like it. I
get it. My daughter plays soccer. I'm getting used to
it still doesn't mean I like it. I don't like ties.
(08:10):
I don't like it. I don't like that we all
just walk away and go, well, we're both good. No,
somebody's better. Let's find out who. And I know come
postseason we will. But that's why I want it. During
the regular season. If these things are gonna you're not
gonna end a postseason game in a tie. The regular
season is to get you into the postseason is to
get you prepared and get you ready for the postseason.
So change it to reflect what you'll be dealing with
(08:32):
when your season is on the line. That's all I'm saying.
All right, rant over, but mccrack and murray ending a
tie Neil nil Murray has been pretty solid the season
on the girl's side seven four and two. Now, see
they've done that twice. They've tied twice. But crack in
eight six and two, Yeah, they've tied twice as well,
(08:53):
But nonetheless, both those teams still in the hunt. Now,
I think on the girl's side, and I've said this
all along, Callway County seventeen and one, Marshall County fourteen
to three and one. Those are the two teams. It's
gonna come down between those two teams. One of them
is walking away. Now, we'll do like postseason regional tournament
stuff when we get back from fall break. But since
we do, we will be rushed for it. I'll go
(09:14):
ahead and do some predicting. Now, just because you've been
the best team of the regular season, or have had
the best regular season, does not always mean you are
perfectly equipped and built for the postseason. Marshall County always
has a way. They always find a way to be
the man. You gotta beat the man, and they're always
the man in the region and girls soccer defending regional
(09:38):
champs and you almost say that every single year. Can
Calloway County get it done this season? My prediction, I'm
gonna just tell you right now. I'll do this on
the boy's side here in a moment too. As we
round out the regular season, as we go into the postseason,
I predict the Lady Marshalls to win it all. I know, shocker,
Callaway's been the best team. They look phenomenal. They knocked
(10:02):
off Marshall County in the regular season, but the postseason
just always has a way to bring out a different
side of the Lady Marshalls. So that's my pick. But
would not be surprised either way for Callaway and Marshall,
wouldn't would not be surprised. Both teams are are very,
very good. It's gonna be one of them, period, full stop,
(10:25):
end of sentence. Marshall or Callaway for the title. I
predict Marshall because again, to be the man, you gotta
beat the man, and Marshall looking for back to back
titles on the girls side. On the boy's side, it's Murray.
It's Murray. Murray's gonna win it. McCracken maybe has the
best shot. Maybe we'll see, but for me, for my money,
(10:47):
Murray High has clearly been the best team all year.
Once again, they're the defending champs. Same slogan, to be
the man, you gotta beat the man. Well, they're the man,
so I'm gonna give them the chant. The pretty there
to win it all. All right, out of time for
segment one, we are up against a break. We will
take it, we'll come back, we'll move on. We've got football.
(11:08):
You've got it on Region one.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Region one Sports in for the deep.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Dive preaching on sports as we move along here on
your Wednesday edition to the show. And I told you
I was ready for fall break, and I'm in a
funk and I'm in senior ititis or whatever you want
to call it, because I kept saying, we're getting ready
for week six the football season. We're getting ready for
(11:35):
week seven of the football season. Yeah, yeah, I know.
Week six was last week. It's week seven, which makes
it even more unbelievable because I totally believe we're in
Week six. Man, I cannot get my brain to function
this week. I can't. I mean, I know I turned
it off years ago, but I can't even get a
little spark in it this week. It is week seven
(11:56):
of the football season. So here are the games, here's
the Schedule's what you've got, And I'm gonna kind of
do this in order of like again, main event, right,
Like which one's the marquee matchup this week? So you've
got Paduca, Tilman and Logan County, and that's the one
that's the big one this week. That's the one that
could be the best game. It's the most two phenomenal teams,
(12:18):
big district implications on the line. That's the one, Tilman
hosting Logan County. Then you've got Graves at Apollo. Graves
showed grit, heart determination last week. They go to Apollo
winnable football game. Graves has a schedule in front of
them to finish out this season, to get to five hundred,
but it ain't happening without a win this week. Then
(12:40):
you've got Callawai County at Franklin Simpson, McCracken County at Hopkinsville.
Murray Is at Webster County, Marshall County is at Owensboro,
Fulton County is hosting Kaverna, and Ballard is hosting Russellville.
So again Tilman Verse, Logan County, Graves at Apollo, McCracken
(13:02):
in Hoptown, Callaway at Franklin, Simpson Murray at Webster, Marshall
at Owensboro, Fulton County host Kaverna, Ballard host Russellville. The
only game in the area, well, I shouldn't say only
there are three games happening this week in Region one.
If you're staying home, if you're looking for a football game,
(13:22):
you only have three places to go. You can go
down to Fulton County, you can go out to Ballard,
or you can go to Tilman. That's it. Everybody else
is on the road, and like on the road, so
I mean there's some road trips this week before everybody
goes to Fall Break me a lot of Region one
(13:42):
fans in Owensboro this weekend. Graves and Marshall going up
on Friday night, so you'll see a lot of Eagle
blue and gray running into a lot of Marshall orange
and blue. It's always fun and they're not playing each
other this week. We're friendly and when we come back
from fall break, We're not. That's the slatest schedule. That's
what you've got, Like I said, the big one, the
(14:03):
one that's the sort of marquee matchup this week Tillman
Logan County. Tillman won loss on the season, Logan County unbeaten.
That's what you get with this matchup. You get a
Logan County team that is fresh off and I gotta
get the schedule up here. Yeah, fresh off of a
big win over Callaby County fifty one to thirteen. I
told you we'd find out a little bit more about
(14:24):
Calloway County last week. We didn't talk about them Monday.
It doesn't take away from the phenomenal start they've had.
It just means, as I said, they're gonna come back
down to earth a little bit with the Logan County game.
They've also probably gonna come back down to earth a
little bit this week with Franklin Simpson. We'll talk about
that more in a moment. And they've still got Tilman left.
They do have two games left on their schedule talking
(14:47):
about Callaway that are winnable. But I do think, unfortunately,
if I'm looking at it, probably gonna only get one
of those games, I know. But they've done a phenomenal
job in your one for Kobe Lewis. They've already exceeded
expectations in a lot of ways in your one for
Kobe Lewis. And they ran into a very good Logan
(15:08):
County team last week again, fifty one to thirteen the final.
Logan County very good. Unbeaten so far this season. You
could argue their schedule not as good as Tillman's, not
as good as some of these other teams, but they
did beat McCracken County thirty three to sixteen. Now McCracken
since turned it on. This was the first second week
of the season, but McCracken just dropped fifty plus on
(15:31):
Murray and they were held to sixteen points at Logan County.
They also beat Greenwood in overtime. Greenwood is very good
and those are really the only two good teams they've played.
You could argue, you know, they played Hart County. Hart
County is a very good football team. They've only lost
what two games, and again one of those to Logan County.
(15:52):
Their stats don't jump off the page when you look
at these teams and you look at their stats, Logan
County does not jump off the page. What they do
and they do it well, a good defense. They gave
up fifteen points in week one, they give up sixteen
points in week two. They shut out russellvillet they should have.
Russellville's terrible. Their one a, I get it. They held
Greenwood to twenty one points in a win. Allen County
(16:14):
Scoonsvill was held to seven. They're terrible. And then they
beat Callaway County fifty one to thirteen. So again nothing
really jumps off the page, but they've got a pretty
good defense. In the game over Callaway County, just kind
of looking at the stats, they threw the football eighteen
of twenty five in the air, four touchdowns, two hundred
and nine yards passing. They on they ran the football
(16:35):
for ninety nine yards two touchdowns only, but you know,
you get the point. Again, their stats don't jump off
the page. Looking at their overall season, throwing the football
at two hundred yards per game, they do have fifteen
touchdowns to two interceptions. That's good. They run the football
at just won twenty five a game, twelve rushing touchdowns,
(16:55):
most of that coming from Christian Helly a junior. So
Logan County good, doesn't pop, doesn't jump off the page,
but they're good. If this was at Logan County, I'd
be leaning a little bit more towards the home team
on fall break. But it's at Tillman, and Tillman's numbers
(17:16):
do jump off the page. Their offense is eye popping,
if you will. Three hundred and twenty eight yards passing
per game, twenty five touchdowns, eight picks, one hundred and
forty five yards rushing per game with twelve rushing touchdowns.
They are better than Logan County in both categories. Their
defense at times can give up points twenty eight points
(17:36):
to mccranken County in Week one, twenty nine points to Mayfield,
twenty five points to Maddisfield North Hopkins. Those are all
good teams. Those are all good teams. So we thought
a few weeks ago, this is very Logan County is
better than Franklin Simpson. They are better than Franklin Simpson.
But this was the case with Franklin Simpson. They had
to come to Tilman. They're a good football team, are
(17:57):
they good enough? And Tilman was just simply better. Thirty
five to fourteen ends up being the final. It wasn't
you know, sixty something to ten. It wasn't this big
route of a good team like we saw last year
from Tilman. But it was just a very sound, very
good win and a bounce back win after losing to Madisonville.
You catch Logan County at your place, so again home
(18:19):
field advantage the Friday before fall break. It's tough because
if Tilman comes out and they score first, and they
score quick, or they score early in the in the ballgame,
that could be enough to deflate Logan County. But if
Logan County comes out and they come here and they
(18:40):
throw a punch and land a blow and they get
a score early or take a lead early, could be
an interesting ballgame. I'll make my pick on Friday. But again,
everything lines up for Paduca Tilman to win this football game. Now,
Tillman again is different than they were last season, but
Tilman won this game last year forty nine to fourteen.
(19:01):
It's gonna be closer. It's gonna be closer, but Tilman's
still a favorite. But that's the big marquee matchup this week.
Then you've got Graves at Apollo, and again I keep
saying this, Graves County can absolutely turn their season around.
Graves County, had they come away with that win last week,
and they had opportunity to do it, had they come
(19:22):
away with it, you could have completely I mean, you
could be looking at a six win team after one
of the worst starts in school history. But they still
have a chance to finish five hundred in the regular season,
which is not bad at all, not bad at all
considering how things have started. This game this week, probably
more than any game on the schedule, is the most
(19:43):
important game left for Graves County because if you lose
this game, you're now no shot to take the third
spot in the district. You're probably looking at the fourth
spot at best. It's just continues to be you know,
uphill sledding, if you will. But this is the most
important game. I think it was even last week before
(20:04):
they played Madisonville. This is the most important. You were
expected to lose to Madisonville. That would have been a
steal of a victory, that would have been a not
only turn your season around, would have gave you probably
a shot to get the second seed in the district. Surprisingly,
but everything that people thought you were going to be
is still on the lot. If you look at the district,
(20:25):
people had some people at a polo ahead of Graves,
but certainly had Graves fighting for a third seed in
the district to start the season. It's still on the line.
It's still in front of you. So this is the
most important week of the season. As you go to Apollo.
You have four winnable football games ahead of you. You
(20:46):
got it and you can't. You won't get there without
getting this win. That's my point. So Graves goes to Apollo.
The Eagles again one and five to start the year,
which is just hard to wrap ahead around seventy yards
passing per game, one touchdown, four picks, seventy five yards
rushing per game, eight rushing touchdowns. But the defense, it's
(21:08):
hard to measure. But they have been so good most weeks.
They were phenomenal last week. Apollo has not quite been
what people predicted. They are only two wins on the season.
They're two and four to go in into this matchup.
Thought they would be better, Assume they would be better.
Murray goes to their place week one and punches them
and gets a win. They lose to Heritage Hills, Indiana.
(21:32):
I don't know anything about them. They lose close to
Owensboro Catholic, which was sort of eye popping. People were going, Okay,
see told you it's a loss, but I told you
Apollo was better. They beat Hancock County as they should,
they're an okay football team. They beat Milenberg County by
two scores Mielnburg's better, and then lost forty two to
fourteen to Owensboro. Owensboro beat Graves by nearly the same score.
(21:57):
So that gives you an idea where these two teams
are Apollo on the season. You look at their stats,
you look at their numbers. They throw the football at
two hundred and forty six yards per game, sixteen touchdowns,
three interceptions. They run the football at ninety one yards
a game with four rushing touchdowns. This will be a
different challenge because this will be a team. You know,
Graves kind of packed the box. They were expecting run
(22:19):
against Owensboro and they went vertical. That surprised them, which
kind of threw off the game plan. But they obviously
knew to shut down the run against Maddisonville and they
did this week. It's the pass defense that'll be tested.
Apollo will only run the football to try to keep
you on as but they are going to want to
throw the football. They've got a phenomenal quarterback, a kid
(22:40):
that's underrated that probably is a D one talent that
just isn't quite getting the looks right now, but I
think he should and will. But he's certainly a college
level quarterback and they're going to want to throw the football.
So this week the defense for Graves. Last week it
was the run defense. This week it's the pass defense.
You've got the Eagles playing the Eagles again. I always
(23:05):
go back to that joke, You've got the Enheuser bushes
because they use the Enhezer Bush logo. But you've got
the Eagles taking on the Eagles. For Graves Counties defense,
it's got to be a no fly zone. It's got
to be a no fly zone. If you can somehow
take away that pass game, keep them from going vertical,
your defense should give you a chance. Offense has got
to find a way to move the football. I think
(23:26):
you can. I think this is a team that will
let you move the football and Apollo and if you're
going to it has to start this week obviously, and
I think they can move the football, and I think
they can get the win again. I'll make my picks
on Friday. I mean, you know, I'm picking Graves, but
this is tough fall break Friday. You got to go
to Apolo. First true road game. I know that we
(23:47):
went on the road last week to Madisonville, but this
is a two hour, two hour plus road trip. Those
tend to zap you energy wise, So we'll see how
it goes. Graves at Apollo where they must win on Friday.
Then you've got mccrankeen County at Hopkinsville. I actually don't
think this one's gonna be close. I don't Calloway County
(24:11):
at Franklin Simpson Marshall at Owensboro. We'll get into that.
We'll talk about it when we come back. Got to
take a break. All of that and more on the
other side. This is Region one.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
The Region one Sports Report on all major podcast platforms,
and ninety nine to five of the Fan.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Region on Sports. Our final segment your Wednesday edition of
the show. We've talked to Paduca Tilman hosting Logan County.
We've talked Graves at Apollo, not Apolo Apollo, and we've
still got to talk Marshall at Owensboro, Murray Webster, Callawa
at Franklin Simpson Fulton County host and Kaverna Ballad hosting Russellville.
Still got a lot to go here on the show,
so let's do it. So we talked again Logan County
(25:00):
and Tillman Graves of Apollo. What about McCracken and Hopkinsville
for the last time. McCracken and Hopkinsville. So we've been told,
so we've been told that Hopkinsville and Christian County will
finally consolidate. But the Tigers of Christian County are a
little bit better this season. They're three and three so
far this season. They started to kind of really turn
(25:21):
things around last year. Two programs by the way that
Mark Clark had a hand in and didn't have a
lot of success to end his tenure at McCracken County
and never really had success when he went back to
Hopkinsville for his second tenure. But they have turned things
around a little bit more at Hopkinsville the last few years. Again,
three and three this season, they did lose to Madisonville
(25:41):
forty two to nineteen. They did lose to South Warren
thirty three to twenty one southward not bad, and then
their other loss is to Carterville, Illinois. So far this season,
the Tigers of Hoptown, they are throwing the football at
two hundred and four yards per game, thirteen passing touchdowns
to three picks, one hundred and forty three yards rushing
(26:01):
per game with fifteen rushing touchdowns. This has a chance
to be a good game. By the way, this has
a chance to be a pretty good game. Honestly, you
look at McCracken County, who has really offensively gotten things
go in the last few weeks. You look at the
Mustangs and what they've done so far this season, throwing
the football at two hundred and twenty two yards per game,
(26:23):
sixteen touchdowns, six picks, running the football won thirty er
game with twelve rushing touchdowns. This may be a game
where neither team is interested in defense. Neither team, to
be honest, has played great defense this year. But they're
each team's got a good offense. I mean, Hopkinsville scored
forty nine to fifty five and fifty five in their
three wins. McCracken County in their two wins, scored sixty
(26:46):
five and forty nine. They scored fifty six and a
loss to Murray. So this may be a game. This
may be fifty something, fifty something of this thing's over again,
it could be. I don't think it's gonna be low scoring.
I don't think defense is gonna win it. I think
it's gonna be who can keep moving the football more consistently.
That has been mccrack in the last few weeks. But again,
(27:08):
this game at Hoptown, I mean, these are trap games
at on the road the Friday before fall break, when
everybody gets off fall break. Basically it's a trap game.
So we'll see. But I do like, I do like
if I'm picking a road team this week. Obviously I'm
picking Graves, but I do like McCracken going on the
road and beating Hoptown. It's not a give me. I
(27:30):
don't know if it's quite a toss up, but it's
probably you know, if I was putting the odds, sixty forty,
sixty five, thirty five, somewhere in there are the odds
of the are the percentages I would give the McCracken County.
I do think they are a slight favorite, even though
it's on the road. But again, the elements of being
on the road, fall break, weekend. Those things just tend
(27:51):
to work against you. So we'll see. But if the
offense keeps playing the way it has the last two
weeks for McCracken, I think they'll go on the road
and get a win this week. Here's what I don't think.
I don't think you're going to see that McCracken offense
from three weeks ago. I don't think you're going to
see that McCracken offense from going on the road at
Logan County. I think they are more in line with
what they were three of the last four games, I
(28:11):
mean three of the last four games, they've scored sixty five,
forty nine, and fifty six points. They keep that up,
they're going to be a handful and a trouble for
their remaining opponents. And if you look at their remaining schedule,
this one this week is again closer to a toss up.
They're gonna beat Christian County. Henderson County on the road
(28:33):
is close to a toss up, but they probably are
a road favorite, and then Graves County on the road.
They may be the favorite in each of these next
four games. So opportunity is there for McCracken County, probably
less so for Marshall County, who has to travel to
Owensboro this week. Owensboro, you know, again, they had an
(28:54):
h to two start to the season. Again, that's against
Saint X and Col. I mean, they beat a bad
Davis County team bad. They beat Owensboro Catholic. Then they
go on the road to Graves County and they'd been
a run heavy football team and they go vertical and
they passed the football like they've just been doing it
all season. And then this past week with Apollo, they
(29:15):
beat them forty two to fourteen, and they went back
to the run game. I mean, yeah, they were good
in the pass game fourteen of seventeen, three touchdowns, one pick, one,
nine six in the air, but they were two thirty
seven on the ground with three rushing touchdowns. Evan Hampton
is a handful. And they went back to the run
game and they got it going and then we're able
to go to the air and they were able to
put Apollow away forty two to fourteen. Marshall's in trouble
(29:37):
this week. This is tough. It's always very difficult to
go on the road at Owensboro and get a win.
Now you are coming off a good win against Buelnberg County.
The Marshalls are three and three. I keep saying that
fourth win has sort of been eluding them the last
four or five years. Five wins has sort of eluded
them for the past decade, and they haven't had a
winning team since twenty eleven. Now, if you look at
(29:59):
what that's remaining, this is a three win football team.
To have a winning record, they got to get three
more wins. They've got four weeks left. Owensboro is probably
not gonna be it. So then you've got to win.
You've got to win out. I'm not saying you can't.
Graves County at home, Apollo at home. That puts things
kind of in your favor a little bit callaway on
the road. But you know, they've been good, you should
(30:22):
be better. You still have a chance, which is crazy.
You still have a chance if you're Marshall County again
not to win out with the remaining schedule, but after
this week, things are in your favor if you're gonna
you know, obviously, if you're gonna get over that third
win hump, which you haven't for a while, you've got
(30:42):
a really good chance to do that, get to a
fifth win. Pretty good chance. I don't I just don't
think you went out. Graves has got a long win
streak against them. Although this feels like the year that
Marshall can close that gap or make something happen. It's
at Marshall. This Graves team has been a little down
the first few weeks of the season. We'll see Apolo
(31:06):
feels like a very winnable game this year, but we'll
see callaway Field. I mean, I think you get your
fourth win for sure in those last three weeks. I
think you can get a fifth win. It's gonna be
tough getting six, but it's it's still on the table.
It's still there, which is crazy. That's Marshall County. It's
just not gonna be this week they go to Owensboro.
Gonna be tough. By the way, the numbers for the
(31:27):
Marshalls so far this season, one hundred and twenty five
yards passing per game, seven touchdowns, four picks won, eighty
nine on the ground, fifteen rushing touchdowns. Can we find
a way to get my boy Jake Thomason more touches
in the end zone? This kid has carried the load.
He's been one of your best rushers, if not your
best overall rusher. He's averaging the best on the team
at seventy four yards a game, but he only has
(31:48):
one touchdown. Let's get him in the end zone. Let's
get this done. I think we can all right, but
the Marshall's three and three on the year, gonna be
a tough week this week. Then things shift more towards
you the final three weeks. I'm not saying in your favor,
I'm not saying you're the favorite. They just shift more
in that direction for those last three weeks. So that's
(32:10):
Marshall and Owensborough. What else we got. Murray at Webster.
This is gonna be a blowout. It's just it's gonna
be blowout. It's gonna be ugly.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
It's good. It just is.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
You know, Murray coming off of fifty nine to fifty
six win over McCraken County. They're gonna go. They're gonna
run and clock them. They just are. Webster's not good.
The only win of the season they've got is against
against a terrible Ohio County team. I just don't know
how Ohio County is that bad, but they have been
for so long. That is just a program that just
you know, Marshall County wants to sing that they've had
(32:42):
their woes over the years. You're not Ohio County. Webster
County's only win a close one over them. Murray's gonna
go on the road and absolutely thump thump Webster County
this week. The Tigers passing the football at two hundred
and eight nine yards per game, running it at two
oh six per game touchdowns in the year eighteen. On
the ground that those stats go up this week. Then
(33:06):
you have Calloway County Callawai County at Franklin Simpson. This
is unfortunately gonna be another tough week for Calloway County.
Now the good news is the good news. If you're Callaway,
you beat Warren East fifty seven thirty six. Franklin Simpson
just beat them forty two to thirty six. This could
be a good game for Calloway County. You know, I
kind of put this low on the list on second opinion.
(33:30):
This may be your number two or three game this week.
As far as Marquee matchup, Franklin Simpson is was projected
to be better and they have been a good football team.
They are four and two going into this week. But
you know what, so is Calloway County. Both have played
Warren East. Calloway scored more points and held them to
(33:53):
the same amount of points. So there's that. Looking at
Franklin Simpson, they are the Wildcats, by the way, and
you were curious, and I know that you are. The
Wildcats only passed the football at forty three yards per game,
five touchdowns, three picks. They run the football though, at
three hundred and eight yards per game, with twenty five
rushing touchdowns. Hey, Laker Nation, they're going to run the football.
(34:15):
They are going to run the football. Callaway. On the
flip side. They like their passing game, they do. They
run the football very well, but they like to throw it.
One hundred and seventy two yards passing per game, twelve touchdowns,
six picks, two oh five of the ground with twenty
rushing touchdowns. This could be a good game. Trap game
again on the road, fall break weekend. Tough, tough, true
(34:38):
road game it is. But you know what, you have
a common opponent. You looked arguably better against that common opponent.
Why can't you have a shot in this game. We'll
make our picks on Friday. But this again, I've talked
myself into it. This is probably your second marquee matchup
of the week, probably third, maybe second third, certainly behind
(34:59):
Tilman and Logan County, but probably not too far behind.
So callaway at Franklin Simpson. Then Fulton County is hosting
Kaverna Balers hosting Russellville. The Colonels of Kaverna who go
to Fulton County. Though they have one win on the season,
they've given up a ton of points, and honestly, they
haven't scored a lot of points in spite of that win.
That was an eighteen to seven victory. By the way,
(35:21):
Fulton County is winless. But even though they've given up points,
they've done a fair shriff of scoring points. They've had
three games of thirty four points or more so far
this season. Offensively, even in those losses, the Pilots of
Fulton County averaging one hundred and ninety eight yards passing
per game, twelve touchdowns, nine picks, averaging one hundred and
(35:42):
thirty nine rushing yards per game with eight rushing touchdowns.
Their stats are not bad. Their defense has been bad,
but their offense has not been that bad. Kaverna the
Colonels again. They're a run heavy team. Throw the football
at forty one yards per game, run at it to
eleven in a game. I think, listen, this game's at
(36:03):
Fulton County. They're the favorites one win combined between the
two teams, but the Pilots are gonna be the favorites
this week. I think Fulton County has a chance. It's
an outside chance, but they have a chance to rattle
off three wins in a row. Governer this week, Ballard
in two weeks, and then Russellville after that. That. That's
an opportunity for Fulton County to go from winless to
(36:25):
three wins at least this season. But it starts this
week with Kverna. They've got an opportunity Ballard Memorial. They
host Russellville. Russellville beat Hopkins County Central, who also had
a win on the season, so not a bad win
at all for Russellville. The Panthers they are statistically putting
(36:49):
up the football one and forty three yards per game
in the year, five touchdowns eight picks to seventy three
yards a game on the ground, with six rushing touchdowns. Ballard, though,
has been just this challenge. Ballard's offense has been a
little absent most of the season, to say the least.
The transfers leaving out have set them back, I think
further than they expected. Fifty one yards passing per game
(37:10):
per game. I don't know what their touchdowns are. They've
got it listed at forty eight touchdowns to three interceptions.
They've only scored like three touchdowns all year. Fifty six
yards rushing per game, so fifty one in the air,
fifty six on the ground. That's what you need to
know for Ballard. I think this is a week where
home field might help you a little bit. But Russellville,
(37:30):
even though they're not great, probably better offensively than you.
Your defense has not stopped anybody. Your offense hasn't scored
on anybody. It's just a tough week for Ballard. It's
been a tough season, much tougher than they expected. And
they started off the season with a thirty two to
twenty eight loss to Todd County Central. But it's been
rough sledding since then. We'll make our pick on Friday.
(37:51):
But even though this game is at Ballard, Russellville seems
to have the edge all right. Whoo man, out of topic,
out of time, out of Wednesday. Back on Friday with
picks and more and our last show for two weeks
as we'll be on fall Break next week. Until then,
I hope you've enjoyed. This has been Region one Sports
