Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian york
on ninety nine to five, The Fat.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
And Away we go on your Monday. It is a Monday,
October thirteenth edition of the Region one Sports Report. I'm
Brian Yorke and I hope you're doing well on this
October thirteenth edition of the Region one Sports Report. We're back.
We're back from break, We're back from vacation. Where that
sounds so much happier than I intended it to be.
I'm not happy, really really sad to be back. Just

(00:39):
vacation just wasn't enough, just wasn't enough. And then you
know how that goes. You go on break, you go
on vacation, and then you need a vacation from your vacation.
I'm still recuperating from the vacation. But here we are.
What you gonna do about it? It's Monday. We're back
at it. I'm not gonna lie. I say on here
all the time. This is therapy for me. This is
my favorite thing. It is. This is something I can't

(01:01):
wait to get back to. I can't wait to record
every you know, three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
it's my favorite three days of the week. All of
that true. This might be the first time, this might
be the first time in the history of the show
eight years, going into our ninth year of doing the show,
that I just kind of didn't want to do the

(01:21):
show today. I just kind of, I don't know. I
made my coffee this morning, I got back to work.
I'm totally out of my routine, totally out of sync
as you would expect, and I just kind of had
a moment where I thought, man, my day would be
so much easier if I just didn't do Region one today,
and yet he persevered, Here we are, Here, we are.

(01:42):
I'm a man of the people. I know you want
your Region one sports report on this Monday. I know it.
I know if I don't do it, I'll get eight
messages asking where was the show today? Are you okay?
Is everything good? Like? I know it?

Speaker 1 (01:55):
So?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Here it is so for those people that would be
otherwise concerned, We're just going to take care of that
and do the show today. You're welcome, by the way.
You can get in touch with us here on the show.
You don't have to be silent or a stranger, be
a friend, reach out to us on social media, any
of the social media platforms. You can find us there,
and of course the text line you can get a
hold of us there at two seven oh five three

(02:17):
four forty three oh eight. That's two seven oh five
three four forty three oh eight. Don't be a stranger,
be a friend, get in touch with us, love to
hear from you, and always appreciate the comments, the questions
and everything else in between that comes our way. Okay,
So now with all of that said, let's let's do
the thing we do. Let's do the thing that you

(02:37):
would have been asking, where was the show today? Let's
talk high school sports. We've got a lot to catch
up on. We've got a lot to catch up on.
I've got a lot to catch up on. You know,
I did. I completely checked out last week. I had to.
I tried on Monday. I was getting some you know,
like here's some updates of things that are happening soccer,

(02:59):
a different thing. I tried, and it just I just
had to check it. I turned my phone off, I
just set it down, and I just completely decompressed from sports,
from everything I do here at the radio station. I
just kind of put it aside for the week. So
I've got to play catch up as much as I've
got to catch you up on things. So the best

(03:19):
way to do that is just to do it. We're
gonna go back. District soccer was last week, so the
district tournaments, the district champions have been decided. We'll go
back and look at that, and then we will look
at the regional tournament, which starts. I think what tonight,
Is it tonight or tomorrow night. I'm looking right now,
it looks like it's yeah, tonight, depending on girls, boys,
all of that, and men who plays. So the regional

(03:41):
tournament gets underway starting tonight, so we've got to get
into all of that. We've got football to catch up on.
We got a lot of football to catch up on.
We've got essentially two Fridays, although I don't think any
of our teams in this area played this past Friday.
I think they were all off for fall break. But
we've got some football to catch up on. Thoughts and
things from a couple weeks ago for sure that we

(04:01):
need to get through. And then we got to kind
of set up where we are going into this week
of football season. I don't even know what week of
football season it is. I told you. I completely checked
out last week. So let's just do what we do.
Let's get caught up, and let's look ahead as well.
So here we go soccer from last week. Because they
are in the postseason. I can't believe it, soccer, You're
in the postseason? How did we get here? But because

(04:24):
they're in the postseason, let's look at how things went
in the district tournament. We'll start with girls soccer because
I think this is a noteworthy headline Callawai County's girls
are district champs for the first time in program history.
I did see that last week. That definitely caught my attention.
You know, I've been singing their praises all year, even
to the point of making some Marshall County fans upset

(04:46):
with me. But I've been singing their praises all year.
We had coach Stark on the show. He's been the
only coach to join us so far this season. That's
mostly my fault. Nonetheless, he has been the only coach
to join us so far this season, and they've had
an incredible year so far. Right now, they are nineteen
and one and again, as I said, district champs for

(05:06):
the first time in school history. How did they get here? Again,
we're looking at girls soccer. That second district we're talking about, Well,
they beat Mayfield in the first round eight nothing, eight nil.
I know it's soccer eight nil, and it's wrong. On KCHSAA,
this score is wrong. It took me a moment. It
took me a long moment to figure this out because
on KCHSAA they had Graves County beating Murray seven nil,

(05:31):
and I thought, holy cow, that is an upset. And
then I went and looked and I went, but Murray's
in the region regional tournament. How did they make the
regional tournament if they lost to Graves? So that's wrong online.
But what you had again, Callawai beating Mayfield eight nil
in the first round, Murray beating Graves seven nil in
the first round, and then callaway Murray Crosstown for the championship,

(05:56):
and Callawai winning two nil over Murray High, a team
that had played them very close to the regular season.
In fact, they played twice in the regular season to
a combined to nil score. That's how close these teams
have been. That's how good that district was. That's how
good Calloway County is. That's how good Murray is. Don't
sleep on Murray. Listen. They go into this thing, they

(06:18):
go into this regional tournament of team again, they play Marshall.
They're going to you know, expect to fight. It ain't
gonna be easy. But Callaway wins the district. Murray becomes
your runner up. How did we get there in the
first district? So you go back and look at District one, which,
by the way, this season had McCracken and Marshall to
somewhat traditional powers in the region. Marshall for sure. Well,

(06:43):
in the first district, you had McCracken County having to
beat Paduka Tillman in round one. It's a three team
district and they did nine nil. Then in the championship game,
Marshall County prevails because that's what they do in the postseason.
They beat McCracken County one nil. Now, you got to
give it up to McCracken County because you talk about

(07:04):
making up ground. The first time those two teams played
this season, Marshall County beat them one nill. The second
time it was six to three. It looked like Marshall
might be separating themselves. This has not been as good
of a season for McCracken as the past couple of seasons.
But then they come out and they fight in the
tournament and Marshall has to truly earn it a one
nil win for the Lady Marshalls. So that sets us

(07:26):
up in the regional tournament. On the girls side, you'll
have Callowai County McCracken County, who boy hold on tight,
and then you'll have Marshall County and Murray, And I
think both games have a chance to be good. I
think both games have a chance for a potential upset,
but I also still think we're gonna get Callaway and
Marshall for the championship. Now, Calloway McCracken, Callowei McCracken, they

(07:52):
play tonight five point thirty. They're the first game. It's
at McCracken. Yikes, always stuff, but it's at MC and
they did not play each other in the regular season,
so there isn't a bit of unfamiliarity with those two
teams this season. In the history of those teams playing
each other, McCracken County has been the better team. In fact,

(08:12):
you've got to go back to twenty twenty to find.
The last time Callaway County won, they beat McCracken one nil.
Since then, McCracken has won one, two, three, four consecutive
games in four consecutive seasons against Callaway County. So something's
gonna have to give tonight for the Lady Lakers if
they want advance to the championship game. Again, not gonna
be easy when you think about it, a team you're

(08:34):
unfamiliar with, you're playing them at their place where they're
more comfortable. It's gonna be tough. However, again, this has
upset written all over it, and my traditional pick prediction
would go with the home team who kind of feels
like they may be playing some good soccer or a
little bit of a chip on their shoulder. But Callaway,
you need to be playing with a chip on your shoulder.

(08:55):
I've been singing your praises all year. I've been getting
pushedback from people saying you're not the best team in
the region. I've heard from people who are are soccer
savants who've said it ain't Calloway County. They may be
having a great year, it ain't them. So we'll find out,
because here it is. This is where we find out
if only there's a way to measure these things. Oh wait,

(09:16):
there is, and it starts tonight. So you've got McCracken
and Callaway in game one, be on upset alert. There,
I'm just saying, I still think calloway wins, but be
on upset alert. And then in the other game, and
it's still a chance for an upset, still a little
potential for an upset. You've got Murray and Marshall. You've
got Murray and Marshall. Marshall fifteen three and one on

(09:38):
the year, Murray seven five and two. They played I
think twice during the regular season. I'm trying to go
back and look they play. Let's see, yeah, twice, Marshall
beating them two nil in game one and two nil
in game two. So this has been close. Like I said,
potential upset. I feel better about Marshall beating Murray to

(09:59):
not I just then I do Callaway over McCracken. I'm
still going chalk, I'm still picking Callaway to win. I'm
still picking Marshall win. But I just feel just man,
I don't know, I feel better about Marshall tonight. So
let's say that plays out. Let's say again. I gotta
make predictions here. Let's say that plays out. You get Callaway,
you get Marshall in the championship game. I've been singing

(10:21):
your praises all your Callaway, I've been on the bandwagon.
But Marshall County is just this is their time of year.
It's their time of year, and I think the lady
Marshall's win the whole thing. Prove me wrong. We'll see
that's on the girl's side. Hey, listen, I gotta take
a break. I'm excited to be back, more excited than
I thought I would be. We'll take a break, we'll

(10:41):
come back. We'll revisit the boys side as their regional
tournament has now set. Districts are over, We'll get into
that and football talk still to come.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
It's Region one, the fastest growing local sports show in
the region. This is Region one Sports. You gotta get
myself to the beat somehow.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
I had a all Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Wait a minute, wait, waitude,
it's all over now.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Any show isn't Monday.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
It is? It? Sure is Monday. Oh, it feels like
it even more today after the break. It is your Monday.
October thirteenth, edition of the show. All right, so we
taught girls soccer. We are set, regional tournament is set.
I've predicted Marshall County to win it all, but again
be on upset alert tonight, just saying could be some upsets,
could be at least one. We'll see. That's the girl's side.

(11:37):
On the boy's side, how did we get here? What
did the district tournaments look like? What happened? All right,
let's go back and look first district on the boys side,
at three team district, you had Marshall County having a
play Paduca Tilman in the first round. Winner gets McCracken County.
Marshall County took care of Tillman five nil. Then that
sets up Marshall County McCracken, a traditional battle like none other.

(12:00):
Squared always fun when they get together, and McCracken County says,
we got this a three nil win over Marshall County.
McCracken goes into the regional tournament as your district champ.
Marshall in the regional tournament as your district runner up.
So MC squared they make it to the regional tournament.
That's the first district in district number two, where Murray

(12:23):
has been and is continuing to be the favorite to
win everything. In the second district, you had Murray take
it on Graves County. Round one, Calloway gets Mayfield. Murray says,
we got this eight to nil over Graves County. They advance.
Callaway says, we'll see you in the championship. Murray. They
beat Mayfield five nil. You get to the championship, Murray, Calloway.

(12:46):
Murray says, again, nobody's beat us. Nobody's gonna beat us.
Three to one. Murray wins in the Crosstown for the
district title. Murray your champs three to one. They go
in district champ Callowi goes in district runner up. I
think there is and I'll just say it. I think
there's more intrigue on the girls side, because I think
it's still a little bit of a coin flip. I mean,

(13:09):
you could, as I said earlier, you could get McCracken
upsetting Callaway tonight, you could get Murray upsetting Marshall. Marshall
sort of seems to be the tournament favorite, because they
always are. Calway's been the better team during the regular season.
A little more intrigued there. On the boy's side, it's
been Murray. The story began with Murray. The middle of

(13:31):
the of the book is all about Murray, and right
here at the end you expect it to conclude with Murray.
Twenty oh to one on the regular season, eleven oh
in the region, eight to oh in the district. So
you look at this regional tournament. On the boy's side,
Murray and Marshall, McCracken and Calaway. Now again Marshall not
quite the power of this season that they have been

(13:53):
in the past. Still very good, twelve ten and one
on the regular season. They played Murray once. It was
a three to Neil Murray win. That came September second.
Many sleeps since then, lots of time has passed since then,
lots of improvement has been made since then. Marshall plays

(14:15):
a very good schedule. They do. They play a very
good schedule. They are prepared as much as you can
be for Murray high tonight. I think if there is
going to be an upset of Murray, if it's going
to happen, it would be tonight in the regional tournament.
Just something about it that first round pressure is on
the favorite. You know, no pressure on Marshall County. They

(14:38):
come in as runner up, they know Murray's the best
team in the region. They're playing with house money. This,
by the way, this is at Marshall County. Keep that
in mind again, we talk about that there is a
bit of an edge when you can play at home.
They're going to have home field advantage, They're going to
have home crowd advantage, they're going to have a comfort advantage.

(15:00):
So if Murray were to lose, I think it's tonight
because if they win tonight, I don't care who they
play in the championship. They're gonna win. That's just my thoughts,
my feelings. So again on the girl's side, I'm picking Marshall,
although again more of a coin flip, more intrigue. I
think each round of the tournament brings more intrigue on
that side. On the boy's side, like I said earlier,

(15:23):
it begins and I think ends with Murray hoisting that
trophy once again. So that's where we are. That's where
we are on the soccer front. All of that starts tonight.
Now the girls start tonight. I believe the boys don't
start until tomorrow. I can't even keep these separate, too
many things running through my brain. Yes, so the girls

(15:44):
play tonight and I think their championship is on Wednesday.
The boys will play tomorrow night with their championship on Thursday.
Alrighty then, okay, so that's where we are on soccer.
Postseason is in full swing. Where are we on football? Seriously?
Where what week are we even in? I don't even
know anymore. I can't keep up with this. So we

(16:06):
are in what week nine of the football season? I
believe that's right, because you had the bye week, so
last week would have been week eight. This is week
nine of the football season. But for most teams it's
their eighth game of the year. So teams are coming
off the bye. They now have their eighth game here
in week nine. I know, I get it. I'm confused.

(16:26):
But here we are week nine of eleven of the
football season. Crazy, We're in postseason soccer. We are in
the final third of the football season. We have three
games left to go for all of the teams in
our region. Now I've been setting here, going okay, how
do we go back two weeks ago? How do we
go back and like, what do we need to review?
Let's do this let's go team by team, Let's look

(16:48):
at their season so far. Let's kind of just have
a moment where we take a breath. We're coming off
of bye week and let's just look at where these
teams are for the final three games of the season.
So here we go. Let's start with Paduca Tillman. Paduca
Tilman comes into week nine of the football season coming
off the by they are what one, two, three, four

(17:09):
or five? Six and one? My math skills never cease
to amaze anyone six and one long loss of the
season to Madisonville a little bit inexplicable. Again, that's a
Thursday night game at Madisonville. Not always fun to go
play there, but it is what it is. Now. They
had a tough one with Logan County. I told you
go back and listen. I promise you. I know I've

(17:30):
slept since then and had a vacation, But if you
go back a couple of weeks, I said, I don't know,
I don't know. You know, this kind of happened a
few years ago. We thought Logan County would be a
challenge because they were good, but they still weren't a challenge.
I think that shows Tilman is again, still good, not
quite what they were last season obviously, and Logan County

(17:52):
may be better than they have been the last few seasons.
And Tilman struggled in this football game at home, and
they do get the win thirty five twenty seven over
Logan County. In this football game, stone Crow threw four
two hundred and forty one yards, two touchdowns, two picks,
fourteen of sixteen in the air. On the ground, they
had a good run game thirty four carries to eleven
total with three rushing touchdowns. Logan County, for what it's worth,

(18:16):
came in and their offense again you look at Tilman's offense,
over two hundred in the air, over two hundred on
the ground, five total touchdowns. Logan County came in. They
threw the football for two hundred and thirty five yards,
two touchdowns, one pick, only ran the football for eighty
five yards. Did get two scores on the ground though,
and they had themselves a ball game coming up one

(18:37):
score shy of Paduka Tilman. So Tilman wins. They sort
of survive, really and truly their last test of the season,
because if you look at what's ahead for Tilman, Warren
East they're not good. That's this week Calloway County. We'll
go back and revisit Callaway, but they're I mean, Tilman's
going to be a big favorite in that game too.

(18:58):
Callaway's had a great year too, It's still a big favorite.
And then they end the season with Christian County. I
don't know why, but they do. And they're gonna easily
dispatch of them. So these X three weeks, it's all
Calloway County. They're gonna finish. I'm sorry, Puduka Tilman. They're
gonna finish with one loss in the regular season and
still be in line to make a run of the postseason.
That's how things are going for them so far. I

(19:21):
just mentioned Calloway, So let's stay on that train of thought.
Callowai County again. Phenomenal years so far, four and three,
four and three going into week nine of the football season.
Who would have thunk it. We didn't predict it. Thought
they might get Fulton County, thought they might get Ballard
this season. But that's how bad things have been at
Calloway the last few years that you couldn't even bank

(19:43):
on those wins this season. I mean you banked on it.
Last season with Fulton County and it didn't happen. They
blew you out at your place, so you know, you
flip the script this season. You beat Webster County, you
beat Fulton, you beat Ballard. You need it to you
should have. Warren East is a team that's been kind
of in the same boat you were the last few years,

(20:03):
and you beat them decisively, lost to Logan County, you
should have. They're good, really good, and you lost to
Franklin Simpson before going into the break, you probably should have.
They're good. They're not great, but they're good. They're better
than you. We kind of use that as a measuring
stick game. We said, this will kind of tell us
where Callowee is. Fifty six thirty four in it at

(20:26):
being the final, I think that tells us where Calloway
is now. The good news for Callaway they get a
very winnable game this week at Allen County Scottsville. Then
they play a not so winnable game against Tilman next week,
and then they get Marshall County, which kind of looks
winnable at this point. If you're Callaway County, you have
a chance. You have a chance at a six win

(20:48):
season with three games left in the right, I mean,
you've got a chance to finish two to one in
the final three weeks. I'll just say it. I don't
know if you do. I don't know, man, I'm still
and we've got a few weeks to get there. With
Marshall County, you're gonna win this week unless something just
crazy happens. You're gonna go on the road to win
this week. Then you've got Paduca Tilman. You're not gonna

(21:08):
win that game. That's one and one. Now you're five
and at worst gonna be five and five in the
regular season. But you got a shot. You've got a
shot at a winning year. You've got a shot to
go get a six win and you'll have a shot
to do it against a team in Marshall County that
hasn't done it since twenty eleven and they're desperately trying

(21:29):
to get that done themselves. Unbelievable. You can't script this.
You can't. The Callway County has had a good year
four and three. Again, who saw that coming? Because you didn't,
don't say you did. You didn't, So just stop it.
Stop lying to yourself, all right. So that's Tilman. And
that's calaway. We'll do one more than we got to
take a break. Let's talk Mayfield. Mayfield so far this

(21:52):
season again, one blemish. Shit was to Paduca Tilman. Okay,
all right, they got you pretty good too. All right,
guess what. You went out and beat mccracky County handily.
Look what McCracken's become. Look at the juggernaut they've become.
We'll get to them in a moment. You dispatch Crickneon
County handily. Todd County Central had no shot. Of course,
we knew they didn't. Cardwell County. We thought could at

(22:13):
least play with you. We thought you would win by
three touchdowns. You beat them fifty two nothing going into
the to the break fifty two nothing. Wow. And now
Mayfield is set up Trick County Friday night. You're gonna
have that game Fort Campbell. After that, you've got that
game Central. After that, you've got that game. So once

(22:33):
again everybody's singing doom and gloom. They lost to Tillman.
Oh no, this is when we're not the same Mayfield.
And here they are. They're going to be nine and
one to end the season, and again set up on
a in a potential run for a state title. That's Mayfield.
That's where they are, that's who they are. And now
we got to take a break. We'll take a break,

(22:53):
We'll come back. McCracken, Murray, Marshall Graves, Fulton Ballad. We
still got a lot to talk about when we come back.
This is Region.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
One, Kentucky's first region for a reason. Region one Sports.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Hay nothing to do but for a rainy days of Mondays.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Always getting me.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
Reagion on sports. Our final segment, your Monday edition of
the show. Sure is it's not raining, at least it's
not raining. It is cooler this morning. Fifty two right now.
It was warmer when I left for work at four
point thirty in the morning, it was like fifty six,
fifty seven. It's fifty two right now. It down as
fifty one just a few moments ago. It's that time
of year. You know, it's fifty when you leave for work,

(23:39):
it's eighty when you get home. It's to grab a
sweatshirt in the morning and then shorts and t shirts
by the afternoon. It's gonna be a nice week, though,
it's gonna be like seventy eight today seventy nine Tomorrow
seventy nine, you know, sunny all week then we got
a chance of rain, big time chance of rain coming
up this weekend, actually calling for quite a lot of
rain over an I'm looking at it right now, like, yeah,

(24:02):
like two inches of rain over the weekend. All right, Fine,
I hope it doesn't because we've got baseball tournaments. We've
only got a few weeks to get a few tournaments
in at the age that we are, So I hope
it doesn't. I'd like to play some more baseball this weekend.
But but it is what it is. Still wish we
could flip, like why is it always the weekend? Why
can't it rain like tomorrow and Wednesday and then be

(24:25):
nice and sunny and seventy five ons on the weekend? Again,
what can we have that? Why can't we have nice things?
I don't know. Anyway, let's move on. We reviewed a
few teams. Let's get a few more in before we
close up shop today. So we talked who do we talk?
We talked Mayfield, we talked Tillman, we talk Callaway. Where
those teams stand right now, let's talk to Craken County.

(24:45):
We talk about a team that has trended and is
trending in the right direction. Now. They give up a
lot of points. Defense gives up points. That's that's okay,
it is what it is. But they are scoring a
lot of points. They are now three and four on
the season. But in their three wins they have scored
sixty five, forty nine, and fifty nine points. Now in

(25:08):
their three wins they've given up twenty six, twenty five,
and fifty six points. And what a game they had
with Hopkinsville going into the break fifty nine fifty six.
I think it ends up being a field goal early
in the game, early in the game, they get a
field goal to end up winning that football game fifty
nine to fifty six. Unbelievable. I think they led by

(25:30):
a couple of scores most of the game. Hopkinsville made
a late push and McCracken County again held on thankfully
to a field goal earlyer in the game. But listen
to these numbers. Maddix O'Neil twenty one to thirty one,
four touchdowns, two hundred forty five yards, no interceptions. How
about Landon Newman who has come on strong. Landon Newman
thirty eight carries, two hundred thirty eight yards and three touchdowns.

(25:53):
McCracken had two hundred and forty five yards in the
air and three hundred twenty seven yards on the ground
four passing touchdowns for rushing touchdowns. Oh boy, I mean,
just catch your breath and hold on tight. Just can't me?
Just hold on tight and Hopkinsville listen. They you know,
McCracken's defense surrendered two hundred and eighty three yards in

(26:14):
the air, they surrendered three hundred and thirty eight yards
on the ground, four passing touchdowns for rushing touchdowns. Like
I said, McCracken is not gonna beat you on the
defensive side of the football. They're gonna beat you by
putting up more points. That's who they are. That's I
think maybe who they figured out they have to be.
And when you look at the Mayfield game, that win

(26:35):
looks even better for Mayfield because they beat them thirty
nine to three, and you thought, well, maybe McCracken's just
not gonna be good this year. Since that game, McCracken
has scored forty nine to fifty six and fifty nine
points and they've done it against Union County, good team, Murray,
very good team and Hopkinsville good team. So that looks
really good for Mayfield right now. That looks like an

(26:56):
anomaly for McCracken right now. But the must are set
up though. They're gonna get a win Friday night because
Christian County is awful. So they're gonna put up up
as many points as they want Friday night, and the
defense will look good Friday night because Christian County is awful.
Then you get Henderson County on the road next week.
That's kind of like the last one you've got to
circle and worry about. Henderson is four and three on

(27:18):
the year. People can tell you all they want, they're
not the same Henderson team. They're not. It's Henderson County
at Henderson County. It ain't easy. It ain't gonna be easy.
And then you close the year at Graves County, which
ry now looks like a winnable game for you. And
it pains me to say that, but it's true. So
McCracken is set, at least set up. They're gonna get

(27:39):
a win Friday. That's gonna be four wins. I don't
know about next week, I don't know. And then you've
got a shot at at least a five hundred season,
maybe to repeat a six win season if you can
win out good stuff from McCracken, the way they've turned
it on the last few weeks. Let's Todd Graves County says.
I just mentioned them. It's not been good, it's not

(28:01):
been fun, it's been tough. It's been rough. To be honest,
let's just be honest, just me and you talking. I
bleed blue. I bleed blue. My kids go to Marshall.
I'm from Marshall, I live in Marshall. I graduated from
Marshall one day, and it's coming quicker than I want
it to. One day, hopefully my kid will be wearing
the orange and blue basketball and baseball. He's on track too.

(28:25):
Let's hope he keeps it going. I hope he does
as long as he wants to. And when he does,
I will root like crazy for him and his teammates.
Right now, my heart beats for Graves County and my
heart hurts for Graves County right now because this has
been a rough year for Eagle football. They were If
you look at the consistency of the program, this is

(28:45):
a program that is perennially year after year, there were
seasons going to be five or six wins year after year,
and occasionally they'll sneak up to an eight nine win season,
and then they'll fall back to six five, then they'll
sneak back to But that's kind of been the way
things have gone for the last nearly two decades. This

(29:07):
is uncharted territory for this program. It really is. You've
got to go back to the nineties to find a team.
You know, I think three had a team start pretty bad,
pretty bad. It didn't go great that year. But you've
really got to go back to the nineties to find
what could end up happening this season. Now I don't
think it will. I still love my team. I still

(29:27):
think they've got The defense is phenomenal. Defense is really good,
but the struggle has been figuring things out on the
offensive side of the football. They are one and six
to start the season. We knew they had a tough schedule.
We knew oh to two was possible. We thought they
could beat Murray. They had a great showing with Murray.

(29:48):
They did beat Union County. We knew they were going
to have trouble with owens Borough. We thought Madisonville was
winnable it was they lost, but Apollo is a game
you had to go get. When the season started, the
prediction was Grave's County would be the third team of
the district. That was still on the line. Everything was
still in front of you. You go to Apollo, you
lose fourteen to seven, an Apollo team that at your

(30:09):
place last season you beat, just to give you an example,
forty six to twenty eight. Now again, defense is phenomenal,
no problems on the defensive side. They held Apollo to
fourteen points at third place. Apollo has got a good offense,
only got seven. And it's no secret the struggle has
been on the offensive side of the football. And I
think I saw something in that game at Apollo, And

(30:30):
maybe coaches disagree with me, and that's fine. I'm just
a fan at heart. But I think you got to
turn them loose. I think you've got to You gotta
turn them loose. You gotta let the athletes be athletes.
I think we tried early in the season, but you're
not playing the right opponent for that. I mean, it
just wasn't gonna work. I don't think anything you did
was gonna work against Mayfield and Tilmen. Not this year.

(30:51):
Not with those teams, not with this team. But I
do think it's got to be. I'm not saying you
take downfield vertical shots twenty yard passes. I'm not saying that.
I don't think this is my opinion. I just don't
think the RPO has worked the way we hoped it would.
I just don't think it's worked. I think Houston at
quarterback is a great athlete and a great runner when
he can get out in space. I think Brady Rozelle

(31:13):
is a good runner. I think we should be able
to run the football, but the RPO just hasn't worked.
Let's just open up the playbooks see what we got.
I thought when we had to go tempo, I thought,
when we kind of were forced to, like man, we
got to find a way to get this football down
the field, and get it down the field quickly. Felt
like things started to kind of happen a little bit
more in that game Friday night, last Friday night. But

(31:36):
I don't know. I don't think there's any bad ideas
at this point. You're one and six. Throw it all
at the wall and see what sticks. And listen this
week Marshall County, Oh my goodness, I mean This has
not been a good year for Graves. It hasn't. You
can't lose this football game Friday night. You go to Marshall.
You've got a long win streak against the Marshalls on

(31:56):
the line. It's a rival. They're feeling good. I know
they're coming off some losses. We'll talk about them, but
they're still feeling good. They still feel like they are
an improved football team and are an improving football team.
This is a big one because this is again you've
got two more district games left you You had a
shot at third in the district. That's probably not gonna happen,

(32:18):
but you still got a shot to get that fourth
seat of the district, which is vital Vine. It's important.
But man, you talk about the game with Apolo was massive. Okay,
we lost. This game is now even bigger Friday Night
for a lot of reasons. But they've got Marshall Friday.
I'm not ready to make a pick on that yet.
You know, you know I'm picking Graves, but man, there's
some things Marshall can do to win this football game.

(32:39):
We'll talk about it later in the week. But then
you've got Memuhlnberg County at home next week. You gotta
feel good about that. But Meulinberg County is a better
football team this season. You can't sleep on those Mustangs.
They got four wins, they're four and three. They only
lost to Marshall by two. They only lost to Apolo

(33:00):
l thirty four to twenty one. They moved the football. Now,
they gave up more points than you did to Apollo,
but they moved the football and scored. You should win
that game, but you can't sleep on it either. And
then you close out with McCraken, who has shown again
a lot of signs of improvement. Graves could still could
still potentially win out the next three weeks and in

(33:22):
doing so get to a fourth win and be in
the playoffs. And Okay, it ended up being not a
great year, but we finished strong and now we can
carry that over into another year. In our worst year
in a long time was four wins, maybe five, we
can get a win in the playoffs. Not bad. You
can still salvage this. But to state the obvious time
is running out, it really is all right, gotta move quickly.

(33:44):
Let's talk Marshall County. Marshall County, like I said, they're
an improved football team. They do have three wins this season.
They kind of feel like they always get stuck on
three wins. They've got a chance to get to a
fourth win. Still, They've got Graves coming up Friday. I'm
telling you it's a winnable football game for them. Now
next week they host Apollo. I think that's still winnable
for them. And then you've got Callawaight winnable. I'm not

(34:07):
saying they are the favorite. I'm saying these are at
least games they are expected to be in and have
a shot in. Marshall could get over that three win
hump and get to four. They could get to five.
They've still got a path to six. I don't think
it's gonna happen. You gotta win out to get to six.
I don't think you're gonna win out. But you could
get two of the next three, and I certainly expect

(34:30):
at least one of the next three. It'd be a
disaster to go oh in three the next three weeks.
I'm confident you get one. You got to shot at too.
You really do have a shot at all three. I
just don't think that's as likely. That's where Marshall is
quickly Murray. I know I'm running out of time. We'll
make up for it on Wednesday. Murray Murray unbeaten. They're
gonna stay unbeaten. They got Union County. It'll be their

(34:52):
next closest test of the year and their last real
test of the regular season. Then they get Hopkins County Central,
They're not good. And then they get Cadwell County either
okay but not good enough. Murray unbeaten. They'll stay unbeaten.
They'll finish unbeaten. And then sorry, I don't have time
for ballot in Fulton County. I'm legitimately out of time.
We'll get to more of it on Wednesday. We'll set

(35:12):
you up, start breaking down Friday nights games and more. Hey,
hope you've enjoyed. It's good to be back. Talk to
you on Wednesday. Until then, this has been Region one
