Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five The Fan Anywhere we go
on your Wednesday. Yes, it is a Wednesday, October fifteenth
edition of the Region one Sports Report. Brian Yorke here
has all ways. You can get in touch with us
on the show via our social media pages, or you
(00:27):
can text in your questions, comments, concerns, critiques, whatever. Two
seven oh five three four forty three oh eight. That's
two seven oh five three four forty three oh eight.
How are we doing? How are you doing on this Wednesday?
I mean we we are in chaos. Soccer is in chaos.
Upsets in the first Region, not just in girls soccer.
(00:48):
I thought that would be the lead going into today.
I thought Monday we would come uh after Monday night's
first round games in the first Region tournament for girls soccer,
we would come here on Wednesday, and that would be
the lead story. That would be the lead of the day.
Is that first round. And then we get here today
and we have an upset in the first round on
the boys side, so that becomes the lead story today.
(01:11):
And then if you will indulge me, if you will,
if you're a longtime listener of the show, if you're
a new listener to the show, if you're just listening
for the first time, whatever it may be, If you
will indulge me, if you'll do me a favor, and
at least listen through the end of the show today.
At least listen to the end of the show. Today,
we're gonna have some real talk. We're gonna get candid,
(01:31):
we're gonna we're gonna have a moment. So just bear
with me and do me a favor and listen to
the end. But before we get there, listen. You can't
sweep under the rug. The first round of the soccer
tournament this week, both on the boys and the girls
side upsets in the first region. It happens. You want
to know how hard it is to win a regional tournament,
(01:52):
I have Exhibit one A and one B. We'll start
with the most fresh one. We'll start with the most recent.
We'll start with the one that just happened last night,
and the most dramatic one, and that is Marshall County
and Boys Soccer beats Murray two to one in shootout
penalty kicks. So the Murray Tigers go down. I couldn't
(02:16):
believe it. Listen, I couldn't believe it. Look at the
comparing contrast between the two programs this season. Murray going
into last night's game was unbeaten. On the season. They
were twenty h and one. They were eleven zero in
the region. They had played Marshall County what once during
(02:36):
the regular season. It was a three to zero win
back in September. Now, I do believe on Monday Show,
I said that was back in September, early September. But
they looked clearly like the better team. They looked like
they were the team to beat Marshall County. Although a
winning record, they were twelve ten and one going into
the postseason, seven and four in Region one. Play. Now,
(03:00):
what we're gonna see here is with these upsets, with
the upset in the boys side, with the upset on
the girl's side. Yeah, I told you on Monday. You know,
when when you're playing at that team's home field and
they're the underdog, it's still dangerous. And that's what happened.
The team with home field advantage, essentially in the tournament
(03:22):
are the teams that pulled the upset. Nonetheless, that's not
to take away from it because I'm just saying that's
what makes it dangerous. But Marshall County was the underdog.
Murray was the favorite clearly and in tournament tom crazy
things can happen. You just got to play one great game,
(03:43):
to one in PK kicks, to one in overtime, to
to one in a shutout, and it's not Murray going
on to play for a championship. It's not Murray winning
a championship. The Marshall County. Marshalls will move on to
play for a championship. That is unbelievable. Murray the favorite
out after the first round. The boys' championship is set.
(04:04):
McCracken County did beat Calloway County three to one, and
now you've got Marshall and McCracken. Stop me if you've
heard that before. Marshall and McCracken meeting again and meeting
in the regional championship. McCracken County right now looks like
the favorite. They're thirteen to five and three on the season.
Marshall County again, thirteen to ten and one. They played
(04:24):
twice in the regular season, they played once in the postseason. Already,
you remember they're in the same district. They met early
or late August. It was a one nil McCracken County win.
McCracken beat them on September eleventh, two to one, and
then McCracken beat them in the first district championship three nil.
So this again now looks like McCracken County's tournament to lose. Right,
(04:48):
they're the favorite now with Murray out, but it's at
Marshall County. Just saying it was at Marshall County in
the first round and the Marshalls pull the upset. Can
they do it again? Very very hard, not unlikely, not improbable,
not impossible. Just another mountain to climb for the Marshalls.
(05:09):
Can they do it? McCracken's now the favorite. Pressure on
them again, it's at Marshall County. So that was on
the boys' side. That was on Tuesday. Let's go back
to Monday. Let's go back to what we thought the
lead would be in the girls tournament. On the girl's
side of things, you went into the tournament and I
said this, I said, I predicted Marshall County to win
the tournament because that's what they do. But Calloway County
(05:31):
had gone into the tournament the top team in the
region in the regular season. I still thought Marshall County
would prevail in the tournament, but Calloway went in as
that top dog. They're at McCracken County. It's on turf.
We'll come back to that and McCracken County gets a
one nil win over Callaway County, ending their season earlier
than they expected. And that's an upset. McCracken County pulls
(05:55):
it off McCracken County this season. On the girl's side,
they were going into that game nine to seven and two.
Calloway County was nineteen and one. Calloway County was nine
and oh in the region. Now, that was their first meeting.
You know a lot of things here. That was their
first meeting of the season. It's on turf. Callawai usually
plays on grass. In fact, Callaway nineteen and two this season,
(06:17):
and thanks to somebody on the text line who sent
this in, who pointed this out, they're nineteen and two.
There are only two losses on the season. Came on
turf fields. That's crazy. And the decision was made to
play on turf, to play at McCracken County and play
on turf, because going forward, the winner of this region
will go play on turf in the state, or at
least go play on turf as they they take their
(06:39):
state tournament journey. So yeah, they lost to Bull County
on turf and lost to McCracken County on turf. That's crazy.
And so Calloway, again, I did predict Marshall. I'll raise
my hand and say it. I've been high on the
Callaway train all year. I thought they were I thought
this would be a mare Marshall Callaway clash in the
(07:01):
first region championship. The Callaway's now out on the girls side,
Murray's out on the boys side, and it now looks like,
I mean, you're you're gonna have MChS squared in both games,
Marshall and McCracken in both games. But again, my prediction
of the girl side still sort of is intact. Marshall's there.
I think they're gonna win it, even though again it's
at McCracken and it's on turf. On the boys side,
(07:25):
mccrack in the favorite, but it's at Marshall, it's on grass.
Oh man, my head is spinning, But that's what you
have in soccer. That's why we start the show, and
that's how we start the show, and that's the lead
story of today. Upsets in the first region regional tournaments
are hard to win. The two best teams in the
regular season, the two best teams in the regular season
(07:47):
are out in the first round. They're hard to win.
It's tough, it gets, it gets, it gets harder every
round and it and it. They're hard to win. So
that's soccer. That's where things stand. The girls championship is night,
the boys tomorrow night. Of course, we'll have the recaps
and we'll talk about it on Friday. Okay, before we
take a break, let's get other scores from around the region.
(08:09):
From your Monday and Tuesday. We had volleyball. On Monday,
you had Ballard Memorial beating Puduca Tilman three nothing, Hickman
County over Fulton City three nothing, Marshall County over Mayfield
three nothing, and Murray over Fulton County three one. Then
last night volleyball action, Ballard Memorial beat CFS three to one,
Callawai County over Fulton County three nothing, Hickman County over
(08:30):
Murray three to one, Marshall County over Tillman three nothing
and Trigg County over Fulton City three nothing. So those
are your scores from volleyball from Monday and Tuesday. All right,
let's take a break. We'll be back. We've got more
of this of course, Region one Sports. And there were
some things going on in sports today that will make
your brain fall out of your skull. You were listening
to the Region one Sports Report on ninety nine to
(08:53):
five the fan Region one Sports. As we move on
here on your Wednesday edition to the show soccer tournaments again,
underweight again tonight girls, Marshall's still in line to do
(09:14):
what I predicted when the thing they play McCracken tonight
at McCracken on turf, keep it in mind and at
McCracken who knows crazy things right. And then tomorrow night
it is McCracken to Marshall at Marshall, Marshall the underdog,
McCracken the favorite in that one. All right, So that
gets us to now talking about some football now again,
real talk coming up later. Okay, hang on tight. If
(09:35):
you're a longtime listener, short time listener, essentially, we're gonna
have a very candid conversation and we're gonna have an update.
I'm gonna let you know, you know the state of
Region one sports and where we are with the show,
and where the future might be for us. Stick around
all right. Until then, we do what we do. We
talk high school sports. Football. We are in week I
(09:58):
don't know twenty, I don't know anymore. We gate of
the football season, nut tend Yeah, we eate. Everybody has
played seven games to this point, everybody's had a bye week,
and so now we're ready to go again this week.
So here is the slate of games this week. I
think your game of the week, I think it is
Graves and Marshall, and we'll get into that in a moment.
So Graves goes to Marshall, Mayfield is at Trigg County,
(10:21):
Puduka Tilman is at Warren East, Callaway County goes on
the road to Allen County. Scottsville, Murray is at Union County.
You've got Fulton County playing at Ballard. And then McCracken.
Sorry I left you off my list. I got to
actually look you up right now, McCracken. They are home
against Christian County. So again Graves at Marshall. I think
(10:43):
that's your main event. I get it, Graves one and
six and Marshall has not had a winning season a
long time like that, that's your main event. Mayfield at Trigg,
Tilman at Warrenees, Callaway at Allen County, Murray att Union.
I think Murray att Union's probably your next game on
that list. Unfortunately it's at Union County, so there'll be
less people in the area that would be able to
(11:04):
take that game in. But Murray at Union County, then
I would say Fulton and Ballard right at least it's
got a shot to be a close game. And of
course McCracken versus Christian County, so I think you're in
line this week. I think you've got a potential for
three close games. I think you've got a potential more
(11:26):
likely though, for two close games, and then you've probably
got some blowouts. But we'll start with what I said
is probably the game of the week. Marshall County hosts
Graves County. Here it is. This is maybe the best
opportunity Marshall County has had in a very long time,
very long time to take down the Eagles. I say
(11:47):
very long time. Marshall County, keep in mind Marshall County
until about twenty twelve twenty thirteen, had good teams, had
winning teams, had competitive teams, but they have not Graves
County since two thousand and five. In fact, they've not
beat Graves County a lot in their history, but it's
been since two thousand and five. Graves has won every
(12:10):
meeting since. There have been some close meetings. In two
thousand and seven it was a thirty six thirty four
Graves County win. In twenty nineteen, it was twenty eight
twenty one. I mean, you had a very good, competitive
close game that year. So there have been some moments
in this series that look like it might could possibly flip.
You had overtime by WOA, I missed this one in
(12:31):
twenty eleven, the last year that Marshall had a winning record,
you had an overtime game. Graves County won that game
thirty to twenty three. So there have been some moments.
There've been some close ones, and they've been spread out.
It's not been you know, just blowout city for you know,
two decades, but it has been a Graves County win
streak for two decades. And then here you go this season.
(12:52):
You go into this meeting. You go into this matchup
a one and six Graves County team taking on a
three to four Marshall County team. I don't remember, and
I don't think it's happened since the early two thousands
that these two teams have played where Marshall has had
the better record when they met. I don't think it's
(13:14):
happened since before the streak. So this is the first
in a long time. Which sets you up for worry
if you're a Graves County fan, which sets you up
for hope. If you're a Marshall County fan. It's at
Marshall County. I'm just telling you all the things you
could want if you're Marshall County, You've got it right here.
This feels it feels very reminiscent of Graves ending the
(13:38):
streak to Mayfield last season. Graves had last season at
that point to start the year, they were the better
football team. They had all that experience, they had skill, guys, linemen,
I mean, they had everything that they needed to do that.
It was at Graves County. Right now, I'm not saying
Marshall County is the better team, but I'm saying right
(13:59):
now feel like everything's lined up in a very similar way.
Marshall has some veteran guys. Marshall's got a veteran quarterback.
Marshall feels good this season. They feel you know, they've
got three wins, they know they should have a fourth win,
they know they should have beat Caldwell County. They know
in their mind they're a winning football team, and it's
at Marshall County. It just feels like the stars are
(14:22):
lining up. Still, not gonna be an easy task. Graves
County's defense is electric. They're phenomenal. That's where you worry
if you're Marshall County. Marshall County has a good offense.
It's not been super electric. It's not just gonna go.
They're not gonna win the football game just because their
offense is putting up points. So you worry a little
(14:43):
bit if you're Marshall County because the strength of Graves
is their defense. You feel good if you're Marshall County
because Graves offense, even against some weaker defenses, has struggled
this season. So again it's that sort of back and
forth three D chess that we're playing here. Look at
these two teams on paper and what they've done this season.
Very different schedules, strength of schedule, no doubt goes to
(15:06):
Graves County. They've played the tougher schedule. They've played the
schedule that in a lot of ways has them in
the one in six hole. But you look at Marshall County,
you look at their three and four record, you look
at what they've done in those games, throwing the football
at about one hundred and nine yards per game, seven touchdowns,
five picks. They run the football at one point eighty
(15:27):
three a game with sixteen rushing touchdowns, and they do
a very good job in the trenches moving the football.
I think that is their strength. I think that's where
they may have the advantage on Graves between the tackles,
line up and run. We'll see Graves County this season again,
much tougher schedule, much I mean outside of Union County,
(15:50):
outside of Apollo. I mean, you know, I get it.
But almost week after week they're playing a top two,
top three team in that team's class. Very different, but
they're still one in six. They throw the football at
eighty two yards per game, two touchdowns, six interceptions. They
run the football at just seventy six yards per game
(16:11):
with eight rushing touchdowns. And again, Marshall County looks at
that and they gain confidence. They don't care who you've played.
They look at that and they go, we don't think
you're good. We believe. Right, that's all you need to
pull an upset. You gotta have belief. You just gotta believe.
They gotta do a lot of things on the field.
You gotta take care of the football. You gotta be
able to move the football, stay ahead of the sticks,
(16:32):
control field position, control clock like, you gotta do a
lot of things correct. But it starts with belief. It's
Ted Lasso, man. It starts with hope, starts with belief,
and they've got it. They've got it this year now
Graves County full of you know what and vinegar. They're mad,
they're angry. Season hasn't gone the way they wanted it to.
(16:52):
They've had to stew for two weeks over a loss.
They feel like they probably should not have a game
they should not have lost against Apollo. They get Marshall,
a rival, a game that has history on the line,
it has a win streak on the line. They get
to go to Marshall I think that fuels them again
because they want to go to your place. They want
to get that win. They want to prove the haters wrong,
(17:14):
prove the critics wrong, stop you your belief right. They
want to take away the doubt and they want to
go get it done this week because for Graves County
it's still on the line. Fourth seat in the district
is still there. You take care of business with Marshall
this week, you take care of business with Muhlenberg next week.
(17:35):
You can salvage you know, these last three games, you've
got opportunity, that's my point, and you can get to
the playoffs. And who knows at that point who knows?
Look look at the soccer tournament, who knows. So so
there's still some things to play for here for Marshall County,
there's still things to play for. That's what makes this
the game of the week. Marshall again, they're right there.
(17:55):
They just beat Muhlenberg County. They still have Graves in Apollo, man,
can you? I mean, Marshall County could end up third
in the district if they can win these next two weeks.
So there's a lot, there's a lot on the line
this week. And it makes that rivalry. It makes what's
already a fun game year after year, or at least
a game that I think both sides still do look
(18:16):
forward to. It just makes it all that more important. Well,
we'll predict it, we'll break it down. We'll talk about
what Marshall needs to win the game on Friday. We'll
talk about what Graves needs to win the game when
we get to Friday. But that's why it's game of
the week. That's what makes it intriguing, and that is
what makes it actually exciting this season. Despite the records,
(18:37):
despite two losing teams playing each other at this point
in the season, despite the fact Marshall has a winning
a better record against Graves in this in this meeting
for the first time in ages, it still makes it
a lot of fun and a lot of intrigue for
a lot of reasons. All Right, I got more to
get to but I gotta I gotta catch my breath.
I gotta get some coffee. Let me take an early break.
(18:59):
We'll come back. Big segment coming up. We got more
to preview, we got more to break down. I got
some real talk right here. It's Region one, Region one Sports,
the best in the West Region on Sports. As we
have our final segment on your Wednesday edition of the show,
(19:21):
We've talked soccer, we've taught Graves Marshall and previewed that
one this week, so let's get in some more of
our football previews before we move on. You've got to
I said, Mark, I think you know Graves Marshall, that's
the game of the week. That's that's the one this week.
And then after that, I would say Murray at Union
County and then Fulton County Ballard, believe it or not,
that's where I would go with that. So Murray at
(19:44):
Union County this one, and and for the reason of
I think if you're Murray, this is really the last
threat to an unbeaten season. Hopkins County Central they're not good.
Caldwell County they're good. Listen, Cardwall County is good. I
don't think they're as big of a threat to you,
you believe it or not, even as Union County is,
because this game is at Union County. Cadwell County at
(20:06):
the end of the year, that's at home. You look
at Union County, they've not had this season, They've had
the last few seasons, but they're still good. They're four
and three going into this game. I've seen the Braves.
They're tough in the trenches. They've still got fight, they've
still got pushed, they've still got strength, and they're again
it's going to be at home. They don't throw the
football a lot or well, sixty two yards per game
(20:28):
in the air, seven touchdowns, nine interceptions. They do run
the football a lot and well, two hundred and fifty
one yards rushing per game, nineteen rushing touchdowns. They have
a thousand yard runner. We're in week seven, by the way,
or week eight, but through seven games they have a
thousand yard running back who averages one hundred and forty
four yards per game with none of those rushing touchdowns.
(20:51):
McPeak Fletcher. He also he was the quarterback, but he's
now more in the running back room. He's at seventy
nine yards per game. The Braves have wins over Hopkins
County Central, who again is not good, but they've got
a forty two to twenty two win over them. They
beat a decent, not great, but decent Hancock County team.
(21:14):
They beat Cadwell County handily. They beat Critney County handily.
They lost to Graves at Graves nineteen fifteen, they lost
to McCracken forty nine to twenty five. That game was
close early, So there's your common opponents right now, Graves
of McCracken. That game was close early though, and the
Graves game was close. Murray again unbeaten. Murray has been
(21:36):
really unchallenged since the McCracken game where they had that
just crazy one hundred plus point shootout. But the Tigers
two hundred and fifty yards passing per game for Wyatt Robbins,
twenty two touchdowns, one interception, which again I talked about
Graves's defense earlier. They're the only team that's picked him
off this season. Two hundred and eight yards pass a
(21:58):
rushing per game, sorry as a team to one hundred
and eight yards rushing per game, twenty three rushing touchdowns.
They're leading running back though, at sixty seven yards per game,
so that shows you the balance, That shows you the threat.
Several of those guys present, including Robbins, who's second on
the team at fifty three yards per game. I think
Robbins to me, is the player of the year in
(22:18):
the region. He's he's gonna be, he should be. He's
the player of the year. But this, this game has intrigued.
I mean, Murray's gonna go in high octane offense. They're
gonna put up points on Union County. Can Union County.
You know again, they're not really built to get into
a shootout. I mean, if you put up fifty, they're
gonna put up thirty. Like that's just the way it is.
Murray's gonna go in, I think outscore them, Just simply
(22:39):
outscore them. I don't think you're gonna have to worry
about their offense. Just as long as your offense is
taking care of business, you're gonna be fine in this game.
But it's still the last real threat on your schedule
because it is a road game and it's had a
good opponent. You get the next two weeks at home,
you get Cardwell County, who's had a good year, but
they lost big to Union County. They lost, you know,
(23:00):
only beat Marshall by two. Like you've got to feel
good going into the last two weeks. Once you get
through this final real road test Murray Union, that to
me intriguing right there below Marshall and Graves and then
and only I think because it's got a chance to
be a close game. Maybe not a good game, but
a close game. You've got Ballard. In Fulton County, the
(23:23):
Bombers are still searching for their first win. Union County
is coming off of their first win. They beat Kaverna
forty two forty going into fall break, so they have
a win on the season. Here's the thing that if
I'm balered, I'm worried about Fulton County scores now. They're
kind of like you. They they don't do a great
job of stopping teams from scoring, but they have done
a good job of at least scoring and moving the
(23:44):
football all season against all opponents. They can move the football,
They've done that fairly well. Stopping people from moving the
football has been the problem. That's okay, because in this game,
I think you'll be okay. Fulton County, the pilots so
far this season had proved my point usual. Look at
the stats. They're not bad. They're good. Two hundred and
(24:05):
four yards passing per game, fourteen touchdowns, ten interceptions, running
the football at one hundred and sixty three yards per
game with twelve rushing touchdowns. That's fourteen touchdowns in the air,
twelve on the ground. Two zero five in the air,
one sixty three on the ground. Those are good numbers.
Those are not bad stats at all. Looking at Ballard
Memorial again, it's been a I think even a tougher
(24:27):
year than they envisioned. They've had troubles stopping people. They've
also had trouble moving the football, and I think that's
where Fulton County has got to be licking their chops.
This is a week where Fulton County's defense may finally
get their victory of the year, and the offense still
probably going to continue to move the football. Ballard again,
it's just been tough. You hate to pile one. It's
just been a tough year. Fifty four yards passing per game.
(24:49):
I don't know how many touchdowns they've thrown. According to
Kiss say it's forty eight. That's impossible, but they have
thrown seven interceptions. Fifty eight yards rushing per game with
four touchdowns. That's not one player, that's the whole team.
It's been tough. This game is at home, but Fulton
County is the better football team, so I think, you know,
(25:10):
I said, it has a chance to be close. Fulton
County may go in and run this thing Fulton County
may go in and and and do some do some
damage this week. I think they're gonna get into the
forties easy. I mean not easy, but I think they're
gonna get into the forties. And this is a week
where I think they can hold their opponent down enough
to get a get a big win, and get a
big win on the road. But that to me is
(25:32):
sort of that third game, right like Graves Marshall kind
of the main event. Murray Union County is sort of
right below, and then you go Fulton and Ballard and
then for what it's worth, I think you're in for.
I think these are the blowout games. Mayfield at Trigg.
I think Mayfield goes in they win big. I think
they'll win and win big. They've got one loss on
(25:53):
the season, Trig County their opponent, they've got one win,
right like that's this game is at Trigg County. I
don't think that matters to Mayfield. It didn't matter, you know.
I think some people thought Caldwell County would put up
a little bit of a fight. They beat them fifty
two nothing. I think you're in for a similar game
the Trick County Wildcats this season. One thirty two in
(26:13):
the year, six touchdowns, five picks, two twenty on the ground, though,
with sixteen rushing touchdowns for their top running back twenty one.
As a team, they've got one really good player who
can move the football, and they've done a decent job
of scoring the football. They can't stop you. And again
that's trouble because Mayfield they've been scoring in bunches the
last few weeks. The Cardinals right now moving the football
(26:36):
two hundred and six in the air, twenty touchdowns, two picks,
one thirty two on the ground, nineteen rushing touchdowns. This
one again will be I think lopsided. It may take
a quarter or so for it starts to get out
of hand, but I think it will get there. Then
you've got Patuka Tilman at Warren East. This is blowout city.
Warren East not a good football team this season. Now,
(26:57):
get it's on the road. Like you've got some of
those things you wereorry about, a long road trip against
a bad opponent, Those things kind of can sometimes I'm
not saying upset alert, not at all. Those things can
kind of sometimes lead to a closer game, or a
more uncomfortable game, or a kind of an ugly game
for you, even though you get the win. Warren East
has done a good job of scoring the football. Again,
(27:18):
they can't stop anybody. That's been their problem, and again
with Tillman that's going to be a problem. They do
move the football at two hundred and eleven yards in
the air, one p forty nine on the ground, sixteen
touchdowns in the air, ten on the ground. They do
have a good passing game. It's a good passing game,
not a great balance game. It's a good passing game, Tillman.
Just to remind you again one loss on the season,
(27:41):
they are what three point fifteen in the air, twenty
seven passing touchdowns, ten picks, one fifty five of the ground,
fifteen touchdowns. Again, I think Warren East will score a little,
but I think Tilman will score a lot if they
show up to play, and they could start to pull
away from this one. Calloway County Dowen County Scotsville. OK.
You know, I kind of put this on the back burner,
(28:02):
but Calloways should get another win this week. Allen County
Scottsville has not got to win this season. Calloway's got
more than we expected. They're four and three going into
this game. Now it's at Allen County Scottsvil, which is
always again a little tricky, but so far this year
for Calloway County, one seventy eight in the year one
ninety four on the ground, fifteen passing touchdowns, twenty two
(28:24):
rushing touchdowns. Their opponent, the Patriots, sixty five yards in
the year twenty five yards on the ground. Boy, Calloway
is gonna look good this week. Boy, they got a
chance to go in and feel good. They got a
chance to go in. Listen, Callaway County, my goodness, you're
gonna have five wins on the season for sure, end
of the day, no matter what happens to finish the year,
(28:45):
you're gonna secure a five hundred record in the regular
season tonight. That's insane. And I get it. You played Fulton,
you played ballad Listen. I said it before, I'll say
it again. Fulton. They whipped him last year. Fulton County
put a will been on Callaway County last year and
kept them winless. And this year they returned the favor.
That's the measuring stick game and Callawai County is a
(29:07):
better football team and they're gonna finish five hundred. They
played the right schedule, They played the schedule they needed.
They played an opponent last year that beat them, and
they returned the favor. They're a better football team and
they're gonna get five hundred tonight with Tilman next week,
not gonna go your way, sorry, but then Marshall the
week after that. Man, you you have a shot after
a winless season, after you went a year and a
(29:29):
half between wins, you have a shot to finish with
a plus five hundred regular season record. Insane. Good for
Callaway County. They go get win number five this week.
That's I'm just giving my pickaway right now. And then
last but not least, McCracken County and Christian County. McCracken
County's gonna win this game, big two. I mean, it's
(29:49):
just just giving these picks away. Man, we're gonna do
all this again on Friday. But can't help yourself. Some
of these games just they just lend it to no doubt. Right,
Christian County's only got one win, they've got an interim coach,
they've got their what sixth coach in seven years. Technically,
they're just not good. They're not in a good spot.
(30:10):
They don't put stats up online, so you know my
beef with that. Looking at their their stats so far
this season, again, they're missing like three or four games,
so who knows, one to twelve in the air, fifty
nine on the ground, five touchdowns, five in the air,
five on the ground. McCracken County has something has sparked
that offense three consecutive games, so they've scored at least
(30:33):
forty nine or more points. They're two to one in
that time with the one loss a fifty six point
output to Murray. But they lose. They scored sixty five
points a few weeks before that. They can move the
football and put up numbers, and they like them home
run plays. They like to hit the home run play.
Two twenty four in the air, twenty touchdowns, six interceptions,
(30:53):
one to fifty eight on the ground, sixteen rushing touchdowns.
Who gonna be ugly this week for Christian County. So
those are the games I gave you most of my picks.
We'll do what we can on Friday, but those are
the matchups for this week. Okay, now time for some
real talk before we close out. And I say real talk,
but it's time to I've had several actually had several
(31:14):
people ask me in the last few weeks about Region
one Sports, about this show and about you know, man
eight years and you got another eight years in you
And the answer is, I don't know. You know. My
hope from day one was to always be in a
position to where it didn't matter who hosted the show,
the show could live on, right, Like, this region is
(31:37):
starved of coverage this region. That's just reality. This is
not a pat me on the back kind of moment.
It's not. When this show was created, it was created
to be a sort of compliment to the coverage in
the region. It was sort of meant to be a
water cooler show. Right, we're discussing what you're discussing, so
then you can go discuss us like that was always
(31:58):
the idea. You got the information from other outlets, you
got the straight coverage from other outlets. Here's something to
compliment that. Here's something different. And then over the years,
because that's the nature of the beast, other entities have
fallen off, or fallen down, or fallen back a little bit.
Coverage has had to be scaled back a little bit
for lots of different reasons, and it's at no fault.
(32:20):
By the way, it's at no fault of the people
who want to do these things. Sometimes they're just they're
held back from doing what they would like to do,
from being turned loose and covering things the way they
want to cover them. And my fear is that we're
going to be in that conversation at some point too.
(32:41):
And here's why I'm not going to even make any
bones about it. This show was nationally recognized, nationally recognized.
It was rated the eleventh ranked show for high school
sports podcast in the country. Incredible a show out of
western Kentucky, a show started by God by the way,
Chris from Missouri, I'm from Marshall County, and it got
(33:06):
nationally recognized up there with some big name podcast. Now,
the competitive side of me was like, why didn't we
get in the top ten? But hey, number eleven. We
have more listeners now than we've ever had, We've we've
got more notoriety now than we've ever had. This is again,
I'm not patting myself on the back. I'm trying to
make a point, but reality is, we have we have
no sales, we have no sponsors. I don't I'm not
(33:30):
on that side of things. I'm not a salesman. I
don't go out and try to sell it. I guess
I should have. But we have no sponsors. We've not
had a presenting sponsor for years. We've not had like essentially,
and I make by the way, I make no money
to do this show. I make zero dollars to do
this show. I do this while I'm here, and I
(33:52):
have to put a lot of my other responsibilities on
the back burner to do it, and then once it's done,
I got to play catch up the rest of the
morning to get my other stuff done. When Chris was here,
it was easy. You had a co host, right, It's
just me now. But I don't make money doing this.
This is not what I'm paid to do. But reality is,
you can't do things unless unless there's money involved. You
(34:14):
can't do things unless unless there's a financial reason to
keep them going. And I just worry because right now
we don't have sponsors. I think we have maybe one
or two, but that's just not enough to keep us
on the radio. And right now that it it really
is tough to cover any of the other expenses this
show does incur, which is paying for the podcast stream
(34:37):
and paying for some other things that we have to
pay for to keep going. So I don't know, and
this is me giving that real talk. I don't know.
You know, my hope, my desire, my willpower is going
to push this thing forward as far as I can
physically push it and keep it going as much and
as long and as far as I can I can
(34:57):
take it. But without without sponsors, I can't guarantee tomorrow.
And that's that's not a place I thought we would
be at this point, Not with nationally you know, recognized awards,
not with more listeners than we've ever had, not with
more notoriety than we've ever had. I wish you could
(35:19):
see my text line because it does blow up most days.
I feel like I've got better relationships with coaches and
schools and fans that I've had before, and we're in
the toughest spot we've ever been. So this is listen.
This is not a pledge drive. Of course, if you
know somebody or you would like to sponsor the show,
or you would like to to help out, of course
(35:40):
reach out. I gave you my text line five three
four forty three oh eight two seven oh five three four,
forty three oh eight. This is just me being real
and me being in a moment of reflection after vacation, right,
that's where this comes from, reflection after vacation. Sports sales
have been down for our company, and this is a
(36:01):
show that I worry. I hope can continue in spitte
of that, and I just worry that at some point
we've got to to kind of either get with it
or things have to move on. So that's where we are.
Eight years, lots of growth, hundreds upon hundreds of downloads
for every episode. Once upon a time, me and Chris
(36:22):
used to celebrate twenty five man, we got to twenty
five downloads per episode, and of course we were daily
back then, but we got to twenty five per episode
and we were like, we made it. We've oh my
goodness' that's like lower than low if we ever hit
twenty five again. That this show has been over for years,
I mean I can put out episodes. We had a
(36:45):
summer hiatus, right, we go on summer hiatus. We had
episodes that were still getting thirty and forty downloads in
July that hadn't been new for three months. So that's
where we are. But Unfortunately, reality is economy, whatever you
want to, whatever it is, whatever's held us back from
being able to get sponsors, that's that's where we are.
(37:07):
And so again this is not necessarily a pledge drive
a plea, but it kind of is. It kind of
is because without sponsors, I can't guarantee a future. I
can't guarantee another eight years, I can't guarantee another year.
I can't guarantee another week. I'll do what I can,
but at the end of the day, you're there's only
so much. So anyway, that's our talk. If you know
(37:29):
of anybody you're you're a business owner or would like
to sponsor, hit us up. Let me know. I'm doing
what I can, but I've only got so much time
and so much I can do. All Right, that's it
for today. Back on Friday we will be We'll be
back on Friday. Until then, though, this has been Region
one Sports
