Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York

ninth edition of the Region one Sports Report. I'm Brian Yorke.
I hope you're doing fantastic on this Friday. As always,

(00:26):
you can connect with the show on social media. Just
search us on Facebook at Region one Sports Report, on
Twitter x whatever you call it now at Region one
Sports and you can connect via text messaging. That phone
number for you in case you need it, want it,
or just have something to say is two to seven
oh five three four forty three eight two seven oh

(00:49):
five three four forty three eight the number to text
or call if you just really desire and you remain anonymous,
and you can connect with the show that way as well.
We've made it to Friday, another football Friday is here.
Of course we'll have previews and break it down and
make our predictions on those games coming up a little
bit later in the show. So we've got that to

(01:11):
get to today, and we've got a lot of scores
and to eight sectionals and all kinds of things to
talk about as well. On today's show, so I say
it every every episode. We've got a lot to talk
about and we will. First, though, I want to say
thank you. I want to say thank you to our listeners.
I want to say thank you to all of those
who have connected on that text machine we have. It's

(01:32):
been great. I do want to say, if you are
going to text, don't worry about it bothering me. It
doesn't bother me. It is a it's basically an app,
and I've got it to where it won't deean or
you know, come up like a normal text alert. So
I check it periodically. I check it often throughout the day.
But it's not just like, you're not bothering me if
you send a text, so don't worry about it. Keep

(01:53):
it coming. Several of you have. It's it's been a fun,
great tool to utilize so far. So thank you for
you that as as a tool. The other thing I
need to thank you for is the response to the show.
You know, I say this every year, but we take
the summer off and I'm always curious as to you know,
where the listenership is going to be. How many downloads

(02:13):
are we going to get, how many how many listeners
maybe you know, don't come back. And every year, you know,
a mark of a show that is healthy and having
success is that you at least stabilize or grow every year.
You know, you don't want to lose numbers. You don't
want to go backwards. That's not a good thing, especially
when you've been around for eight years. And this was

(02:34):
another year so far of growth. The response, the downloads,
the listenership has been up especially. You know, you don't
compare it to where you were in the spring. You
compare it to where you were a year ago at
this time and a year ago at this time. You
guys have come out in droves. You guys have come
out in forces, and we've had great numbers and a
great response. Thank you for that, thank you for for

(02:56):
tagging along, thank you for listening. Thank you for just
again reaffirming what we thought eight years ago that there
was a need for this, a want for this, there
was a place for this show. H And you guys
keep proving us, proving us correct. And that's that's the
biggest victory for me. That's the biggest victory. That's the
biggest thing is that we had an idea eight years

(03:17):
ago and eight years later. It's not only going strong,
it's continuing to go strong and continuing to grow. That's awesome.
Thank you. All right, So there's that. Let's do what
we do. Let's talk high school sports, scores, sports from
around the region. Let's go to volleyball from your Thursday.
We'll start there. In volleyball on Thursday, Callaway County beat

(03:37):
Trie County three sets to none, Fulton County over Lake County.
That's Tiptonville, Tennessee, three sets to none, Livingson Central over
Hickman County three two, Marshall County over Ballard Memorial three two,
Mayfield over Carlisle County three to one, Murray over Christian
Fellowship three to one, and Paduca Tilman over Saint Mary
three sets to none. That is volleyball from Thursday. Let's

(04:02):
go to soccer. Boys soccer from Thursday. In boys soccer,
you had Mayfield over Paduca Tilman to one, McCracken County
over Marshall County one nil, mccrack and over Marshall boys
soccer one nil, two perennial Powers. And then in the
boys sectional two A Sectional championship. That's how I should

(04:24):
say it. The two A Sectional Championship, it was Murray
over Callaway and a Crosstown matchup, Murray winning three to one.
That's on the boys side. Girl soccer from last night
Marshall County over McCracken County one nil, so a split
between the two mcchs's boys McCracken one, girls Marshall one

(04:47):
the same score one nil. Man, it's just so fun
when those those soccer powers get together. Paduka Tilman beat
Mayfield four nil. And then in the two A Sectional
Championship with the girl's side, it was Callawai County over
Murray Crosstown battle, Callaway winning one nil, so obviously a
tight one, a close one in that battle last night

(05:11):
that Crosstown for the two A sectional Callawai winning one nil.
By the way, the lone goal was scored by Carlyn Provine.
I hope that's how you say your name. She got
the goal. And then how about Gabriella yokom Man, she
just killing it as gokeeper. Six saves, you shut them out,
you end up with six saves, you get one long goal,

(05:32):
you get the win. That's all that matters. Seven and
oh now for Callaway County who is out to their
best start in school history and continuing it. And they
got Mayfield coming up. They've got Murray again coming up
later on what's the next week. They've already beat Marshall County.
They play McCracken County towards the end of the season

(05:54):
late September. So I mean this is this is shaping
up to be a special, magical season for Callaway County.
And don't sleep, by the way on Murray. You know,
Murray graduated some some leaders, some talent, some some of
their their top production players. And here they are for
one and zero U for one and one. Mabe, I
should say four wins, one loss, one tie and that

(06:17):
one loss of one nil game. I mean, come on,
Murray's good. Marshall County and girls soccer last night getting
the win over mightighty McCracken Marshall County one loss on
the season with one tie and now five wins, so
five to one and one. And then McCracken County. You know,
you look at them and they've got three losses, they're

(06:37):
three and three. But ain't nobody played their schedule in
this region yet? I mean Bowland Green South Warren, Lexington
Catholic already playing Marshall early in the year that you
you're a fool if you think they're out of this
thing just because their record is not as good as
the other teams. This is a four or five team
race on the girls side, and it's been some really
good soccer early on in the season. On the boys side,

(07:02):
Murray High unbeaten six oh and one. They tided Owensboro
in a scoreless game. They've now won six of their
other games. They beat Callaway last night, who's still very
good at soccer. Callaway three losses on the year. They're
now at four to three and one, so they get
the two A the Sectional two A. They've got Marshall

(07:24):
County coming up next week. That'll tell the teal. That'll
really give you an idea of where a lot of
these programs are. Marshall County they're four and one to
start the season again, they're lone loss right now to
McCracken County in a one nil game. McCracken County they're
four and one to start the season with two ties.
It's a lot of good soccer on the boys side

(07:45):
as well. There's a lot of teams that are still
in it and keeping their hat in that race here
early in the season. So that is a look at
our scores from last night. We are getting ready to
turn our attention to football tonight. Week two of the
football season. A lot of good matchups tonight. Here's the rundown.

(08:06):
Here's the games. You've got Graves County hosting Paduca Tilman,
Mayfield is at Christian County, Murray is got Calloway County
in the cross town. That'll be fun. Marshall County goes
to Caldwell County, McCraken County is at Logan County, Fulton
County is at South Fulton, and Ballard Memorial Place host
to Joe Burns Cedar Hill, Tennessee. So you know, we

(08:29):
used to do this with pick them, like what's the
marquee game? What are the games you're looking for? Like,
I think Graves Tilman has has some interest. A lot
of people just discounting Graves. Oh, they graduated a big
senior group and the Lincoln acre's gone and quarterback's gone
in this and that in Mayfield beats them forty to seven,
and like they're just not gonna be any good. Oh,
it's gonna be They may surprise you tonight they might

(08:51):
surprise you tonight. Graves and Tilman should be and could
be a good one tonight. Crosstown always interesting. You know.
Calloway's coming off an apple thumping of Webster County, a
very very good win for Calloway County, a needed win,
not just to get a win, but to get a
just decisive win like that. And then Murray is really good,

(09:14):
So Crosstown will be a lot of fun tonight. I'm
looking at Marshall County at Caudwall County. You know, the
Marshalls have an opportunity these first three weeks to be
three and oh. District play is going to be a
little tough for them, but they've got a chance to
get to three and oh and give themselves a chance
at a four or five win season. And then last,
but not least, I'm looking forward to McCracken and Logan County.

(09:36):
Logan County always a good team. They you know, they're
they're good again this year. This is at Logan County.
McCracken County is expected to be on the rise. They
went six and six last year, but we're expecting them
to be at least that good, if not better, And
so tonight we'll we'll give us a good indicator of that,
so good football on the dock at tonight. We'll preview it,

(09:59):
we'll break it down, we'll make predictions. We'll do that
when we come back. This is Region one. Sports.

doesn't alert me. Every time I get a text. I

(12:49):
have that all turned off. So the only way I
see that I have messages is about opening the app,
which I do quite frequently through the day, but not
frequently enough that it is bothering me. So don't worry
about that all right, Football Friday, Week two of the
football season. Let's get into it. Let's break them down
and preview them again. The schedule for tonight, You've got

(13:10):
Graves hosting Paduca, Tillman Mayfield is at Christian County. Murray
is with Calloway County. The Crosstown Marshall County goes to
Codwall County. McCracken County travels down to the Bowling Green area.
They take on Logan County. Fulton County and South Fulton
hook up tonight, and Ballard Memorial takes on Joe Burns
that Cedar Hill, Tennessee. Those are the games on the

(13:32):
docket tonight. And like I said, we don't have high
school football pick them anymore. West Kentucky Star. I'm as
upset as you are. I really am upset about it.
So we're doing our own pick them here on the
show anyway. So let's start with Crosstown. Let's start with
the rivalry game tonight. Murray and Calloway going head to
head at Murray State University at MSU, so they will

(13:54):
meet on the turf tonight. Murray has just frankly owned
the series. I've always been kind of a big advocate
in sports. So you talk rivalries, in order to be
a rival, you got to have some semblance of being competitive.
This has not been a rivalry for the last decade
and a half. It's not been a rivalry because Murray

(14:16):
has absolutely annihilated Callaway in this series. To be honest,
that's just the truth. That's the numbers. They've dominated this series.
They've won fifteen of their last sixteen meetings. And they
didn't just win them. Like there's been streaks Battle of
the Birds. Graves snapped a big long, you know, fifteen

(14:36):
year streak last year, like there have been streaks that
some of these teams have against other teams. But in
this timeframe of Murray winning fifteen out of the last sixteen,
in this information, by the way, brought to us by
our good buddy Steve Springer over the Murray Ledger and Times,
in this timeframe, the average margin of victory has been
twenty five points for Murray. That's a thumping. Year after

(14:59):
year after a year, fifteen out of the last sixteen,
a twenty five point march at a victory. The lone
hiccup for Murray in that time frame came all the
way back in twenty sixteen, so now nine years ago,
and it was a thirteen to two game. And it's
crazy because the season before that, Murray won that game

(15:20):
forty eight to twenty one. The season after that, they
won that game forty two to nineteen. So right in
the middle of that and really right in the middle
of fifteen years of Tiger dominance in this series was
this really odd thirteen to two score in which Murray

(15:42):
was on the losing end. Now, it wasn't a great
Murray team that season. They only won four games that
entire year. Callaway County that season, it's one of their
better years in the last fifteen years that Lakers squad
that season, coach by Mickey Garrison, they won seven games
that year, So the script had flipped at least for

(16:02):
that season. But like I said, in the scheme of
the series, that's such a weird score that that game
went to Callaway and went to Callaway in such a
low scoring game when Murray had just been putting up
points every single year in that series. Now this season,
Callaway County has been rejuvenated. They they absolutely thumped a
not great Webster County team. But it doesn't matter, I

(16:25):
say this all the time, and I said it on Wednesday.
Good teams beat bad teams badly. They beat a bad
team badly. New coach coach Lewis, who came over from
Paduka Tillman. You know he's no stranger to rivalries. You've
got Rumble on the River with Tilman McCracken, You've got
Mayfield Tillman, which is the oldest rivalry, like in the nation,

(16:46):
not just in Western Kentucky, like one of the oldest
in the entire country. So no stranger to playing these
rivalry games. Coach Cunningham on the other side for Murray,
is in his third season now, his third Crosstown Classic
as a Tiger head football coach, winning two years ago
thirty five to fourteen, winning last season forty two to seven.

(17:07):
Another thread in this series. Another thread in this rivalry
game is you have former Calloway County Laker turned current
second year Tiger starter Wyatt Robbins facing his old team
once again. So a lot of fun little threads, a
lot of fun little things and storylines that come with

(17:30):
these inner community, inner county rivalry matchups, whatever you want
to call it. Now, I think coach Cunningham had the
best quote to sum this up, to sum up what
it means to be in a rivalry game, to some
up what it means to play a team that your
fans aren't a fan of, that your students want to
beat badly, that your school takes pride in winning this game.

(17:52):
And what coach Cunningham said, and this comes from the
article and just a great quote that mister Springer got
in this article. Coach Cunningham for Murray High said rivalries
aren't just about rankings or predictions, They're about pride. You
don't just play to win, You play so they remember. Goosebumps.

(18:13):
I've got goosebumps. That's I mean, that's a movie quote.
Hollywood ain't coming up with that line. That's so good.
You don't play just to win, you play so they remember.
That is the quintessential quote for what it means to
face a team you don't like. I'm a big Ohio
State football fan, have been my entire life. And before

(18:34):
you like, get at me, you bandwagon jumper, right, no, no,
no no. I was an Ohio State football fan way
back in the nineties when Coach Cooper was eight and
five every season and we couldn't beat Michigan then, but
being a longtime Ohio State football fan, the Michigan the game,
that team up North, that game, that's that's such an
amazing rivalry. And it's true. I hate Blue, I hate

(19:00):
that team up North. We went on vacation to the
state of Michigan this last year and it just it
hurt my soul to even be in the state of Michigan.
So losing to a team that you despise stinks. It does.
And as that quote said, we play so they remember.
In essence, we play, so they don't forget, they don't

(19:21):
forget it's us that beat them. They don't forget what
happened to them, and they don't forget it for an
entire year until we play again next year. So good.
All right, Let's look at the stats. Let's break this down.
Let's make our prediction for Murray High. Week one of
the football seasons saw them take on a very good
opponent on the road in Owensboro. Taken on Apollo Murray

(19:45):
High through the football twenty one times. Watt Robbins was
twelve of twenty one, two hundred and thirty two yards,
four touchdowns, no interceptions. They run the football fairly well
on the ground, Boehmer was what eleven carries ninety one
yards mean was six carries for sixty six yards in
a touchdown. Robin scrambled six times for sixty six yards.

(20:06):
So in essence, then Richardson, by the way, six carries
thirty five yards in a touchdown. So again, passing twelve
of twenty one two thirty two, four touchdowns, running twenty
nine team team carries two hundred and fifty eight yards
and two touchdowns. That's that's a lot of offense last
week for Murray High. That's a lot of offense. Let's

(20:29):
look at Let's look at Callaway County because they had
a lot of offense too. They thumped Webster County sixty two.
Nada shut them out. Here we go Matthew Bridwell eleven
to fourteen, two hundred and fifty four yards, three touchdowns,
one interception. As a team, they ran the football twenty
three times for two hundred and sixty four yards and

(20:51):
four touchdowns. Logan Smith seven carries one hundred and forty
four yards in a touchdown. The kid is averaging twenty
and a half yards per carry so far this season.
So the offense looked good. Somebody that was at the
game told me, they said, look, does this mean Callaway
County's gonna win eight games this season? Would? I don't

(21:12):
know and probably not, But what does this mean for
their Like what does it look like for Callaway County
to have success? And he said, protecting the quarterback is
key because Bridwell can play. He can throw the football,
he's got some wet there's some things they can do
with the football. They can move the football if he
has time to do what he needs to do. And

(21:33):
they ran the football well, they threw the football well. Again,
Webster County is not good, but Callaway County was winless
last season. Callaway County was I'm just gonna say it.
They were atrocious last season. They couldn't stop nobody, they
couldn't score on anybody. And in Week one they stopped
somebody and they scored on them. So this already has

(21:54):
a much different feel to the matchup tonight than it
did a year ago than it two years ago. Then
it has to be honest, fifteen out of the last
sixteen years, it just feels like Callawai County has a
chance now. Prediction wise, I don't They're not winning Murray's

(22:15):
gonna win this game. They're the favorite. They have been
to be the man. You gotta beat the man, and
Murray has been the man in this rivalry for for
a decade and a half. But it feels like this
has a chance to be a ballgame. It feels like
this has a chance for Callaway County to at least
silence their critics. It also feels like it could go

(22:36):
exactly the way the last fifteen of sixteen of win
that this could be another twenty five plus point margin
of victory for Murray. And last week really was a
rouge that pulled over our eyes with Webster's score for
Callaway County. And my point is it's just too early
in the season to tell if Callowai really is a
good football team this season and kind of bounced back

(22:58):
into a little more form, or if Webster County is
just that bad and it was just a nice gift
for Callaway to start their year. It's just too early
to tell. But as far as predictions go, Murray's gonna
win this game? Is it a you know? The only
question for me is does it go the way the
series has gone twenty five plus point victory for Murray.

(23:19):
Can Callaway prove that they are improving and they can
hang and they can at least play and can make
this respectful. That's what I'm interested in tonight. I think
Callaway's got an offense that can find some success and
can move the football. I just don't know if their
defense can can you know, stop what Murray brings on offense.
So I'm picking Murray tonight. They continue to roll in

(23:43):
this series. But listen, I'm still excited and happy for
Calloway and what they did last week. And I think
this sets Callaway up. And I said this on Wednesday,
if Callawai really is turning a corner, They've got an
opportunity in the first four weeks to win three football games.
Because you've done it with Webster County. You get Alton
County next week. That's a winnable football game for you.
Ballad Memorial, a winnable football like you could you could

(24:06):
get thumped tonight, still end up three and one and
off to a very very good start. So I'm not
taking a lot of stock in what happens tonight. I'm
looking at Callaway what happens in the first month. But
Murray wins tonight. That's cross town, all right. Moving on,
speaking of rivalry, speaking of games with a lot of
intrigued tonight for me, I mean personally, it's Graves County

(24:27):
and Puduca Tillman. You know, Graves County. I get it.
Take the end of the Battle of the Birds and
how that game kind of ended and how it tainted
that night, how it kind of took away from that
game that ends up being a forty to seven, very
lopsided score. But credit where credit's doing a tip of
the cap. Speaking of rivalries, I'm not too fond of

(24:49):
Mayfield as a Graves County guy, right Like I don't
like losing to Mayfield. I don't like losing big to Mayfield.
But I'm at Wings on Wednesday night for my coaches show,
and as i'd gotten set up, a Mayfield fan and
a diehard had walked by me and turned and he said, listen,
I get it. By the end, Mayfield had pulled away
and done their thing and kind of flexed, and you know,
feels good to win big, he said. But Graves is

(25:11):
gonna be all right, he said Graves defensively. He was
really impressed, he said, yeah. The offense struggled, but I
think as time goes on, those guys will start to
click and kind of figure it out. But this was
a nine to nothing game in the first quarter, and
Mayfield didn't score until late. Graves held their own. The
offense did let them down, that's just reality. Couldn't move

(25:33):
the football too deep in their own territory, so when
Mayfield would get the football, they were in great field position.
And so considering that Mayfield was in great field position
all not long playing from the fifty yard line or
even closer to the end zone most drives. Graves really
did a good job defensively with the field position they

(25:54):
were dealing with nothing after the first quarter, nineteen nothing
at the half. Yeah, Mayfield's pitching his shutout, but they're
not exactly running away with it. The third quarter, Graves
had a little momentum, Graves had a little fight. Graves
moved the football a little bit and showed a little
bit there in the third quarter, But again just kind
of some little mistakes on offense time of not being

(26:17):
able to control time of possession, not being able to
really dictate field position kind of kept them in a
hole and it allowed Mayfield to get another touchdown, and
it kind of allowed Mayfield to start pulling away, running
away at that point. But there are some good things
from Graves. Their defense can play. Their offense has to
give their defense better field position to work with. The

(26:37):
offense has to be able to control the clock a
little bit. The offense has to be able to move
the football if they're gonna have any success. That's gonna
be tough tonight with Tilman. It's gonna be tough tonight
with Tilman. But there are some interesting things here. You know,
you look at the history of this series and all time,
I think Graves is fourteen and twenty four against Paduka Tilman.
That's not super lopsided. The first seven or eight meetings

(27:01):
in that series were all Tilman. Since then, it's been
a fairly even series, fairly back and forth. Now Tillman
has sort of owned the last few meetings, no doubt
about it. But Graves won two in a row in
twenty twenty and twenty twenty one, and Tilman currently riding
a three game win streak in the series. That's been
about the most wins in a row in this series

(27:22):
for either side since the early nineties. So again, this
series started in the late eighties, Tilman won the first seven.
Since then, no team has really won more than three
or four in a row. So it feels like when
you win one, you usually win two or three, and
then the other team wins one and then rattles off

(27:43):
two or three. It's rarely one team wins then the
other team wins the next season, so it's been that
kind of series. Now Tillman is riding a three game
win streak. Graves beat them in twenty twenty and twenty
twenty one. Tilman won in twenty twenty two twenty five
to seven. That was actually a really good game which
Tilman just pulled away in the end. Two years ago,

(28:05):
Tilman won forty two to eight. Last season a thumping
it was sixty one to seven was the final a
year ago at Tilman, and there are a couple of
win streaks on the line tonight. Tilman, of course, has
won sixteen consecutive football games, fifteen to er a season
ago en route to that championship, one a zero to
start this season, so sixteen consecutive football wins for Paduka Tilman.

(28:29):
Graves County has won nine consecutive home games. Their last
loss at home came in twenty twenty three. Owensboro beat
them September fifteenth, twenty twenty three. They've been unbeaten at
home since then, so something's got to give tonight. Graves
is usually better at home, and in this series they've

(28:49):
been really good at home. I think this is a night.
I think this is a big night because Murray next
week doesn't get any easier for Graves County. Union County
the week after that doesn't get any easier. Now, don't
get me wrong between Tilman and Murray Union County, Tillman's
the best of those three opponents. But this is an
opportunity tonight for Graves County to go capture some momentum.

(29:12):
Let's look at the stats. They weren't pretty. They weren't
pretty for Graves County last week. Again, offensively, just a
struggle last week, throwing the football nine of twenty fifty
eight yards, no touchdowns, one interception on the ground, thirty
carries for one hundred and five yards, and again the
defense did its job. The defense played very well most
of that game last week. In field position and just

(29:34):
being on the field too much started to let them
down in the end. Paduka Tilman a week ago against
McCracken County, winning that game sixty three twenty eight. Stone
Crow throwing the football was twenty five of thirty nine,
with seven touchdowns, four hundred and thirty two passing yards,
two interceptions. They ran the football twenty nine times as

(29:55):
a team, two hundred and five yards rushing with one
rushing touchdown. One very cool. And I talked about threads,
and I talked about little things and win streaks on
the line and things like that. But one of the
very cool things. And again this is thanks to our
text machine. I knew part of this story. I didn't
have the whole story until we got a text about it. Again,

(30:18):
that number, by the way, two seven, five three four
forty three eight. But thanks to the text machine, this
little nugget of information, there's a deep connection between the
two quarterbacks going head to head in that game tonight.
So stone Crow for Paduka Tillman taken on Jace Houston
for Graves County. They are the grandsons of Jack Haskins

(30:40):
and Butch Edwards. Now why does that matter Because back
in the day, those two guys started coaching together with
Heath Football and coached together for thirteen years, including one
season for Lonoak. So some legacy in this football game.
I mean to think those guys have that kind of
history together. And all these years later, the two grandsons
of those coaches meet tonight, not just as opposing players,

(31:02):
but both quarterbacking their teams. That's crazy enough. But Houston
and Crowe also started playing football together at three years
old back in the day, so their journey is kind
of coming full circle tonight. Now stone Crow is a senior,
so this will be the only matchup these two quarterbacks
will have against each other. But that's pretty cool. Just

(31:24):
a little legacy on the line tonight. Who wins? Of course,
I'm picking Grace County. Come on, They're not the favorite.
That's the tidbit I'll give you. They're not the favorite.
Tillman is still clearly the favorite. Tillman is expected to
win the game. If this were high school football, pick them.
The majority of people picking would be picking Tillman, and
probably correctly so in their assumptions. But I'm always gonna

(31:48):
pick my Eagles. Let's go Eagles. Let's go get that
win tonight over Tilman. All right, let's take a break.
Plenty of more. We got a lot more to get
to and I gotta get to it quicker. So we'll
get to that when we come back. More football on
the way on Region one, Region one Sports. Nope, it's
not Ashton Coucher. It's Brian York, equally handsome, equally smart.

(32:10):
On ninety nine to five the Fan Reagion one Sports.
It's our final segment here on your Friday. That number
again to text or communicate with us is two seven

(32:32):
oh five three four forty three eight. As we make
our football picks for this Friday, We've talked Crosstown, which
I've got Murray winning that game. We've talked to I can't,
I can't talk. We've talked Tilman and Graves County, which
I'm picking Graves, but Tilman expected to be the favorite
and win that game. Let's move on to Marshall County

(32:52):
at Cadwell County because this one has my interest. You know,
I told you this earlier this week, I told you
this last week. They've been hearing, you know, every year,
every summer, you hear from people, oh Marshall is different
this year. It's it was a different offseason and then
it just ends up being the same season. And at
some point, like there's times you buy into it and
then there's some points where you just realize I just

(33:14):
can't keep buying into this. It just keeps going the
same way. Well, Marshall came out last week and again
an opponent they should have beaten. They should beat Critton
County most years, even when Critney County is really good,
Marshall is still a five A football team. Critney County
is still two A, so most years Marshall County should
win that game. Now, keep in mind, though they don't

(33:35):
play often, this was only the fifth meeting according to KHSAA.
They played in twenty eleven, twelve, thirteen, and fourteen and
have not played since twenty fourteen. But Marshall County unbeaten.
They have beat them every year. They're unblemished, undefeated against
the Rockets. But Marshall County came out in good teams

(33:56):
beat bad teams badly, and they didn't necessarily beat them badly.
This was competitive football game, but they got the win,
and they got a convincing win. Neeland Jazzic twelve of
nineteen one hundred and forty six yards, two touchdowns, win, interception.
As a team, they ran the football thirty five times,
one hundred and eighty one rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

(34:17):
And Marshall County did that and got that win despite
giving up a lot of passing yards. Quinn Summers is
a really good quarterback. What are the best in our area?
Twenty two of thirty nine he threw for three hundred
and twenty seven yards, four touchdowns and interception. They couldn't
run the football against Marshall County. Now, they didn't try
to run the football a whole lot last season. They
really do put it on their quarterback and the Marshalls. Again,

(34:40):
the run game's not really a threat. They still had
success in the pass game and Marshall County still found
a way to move that football and score forty two
points and get that win. It is gonna get tougher tonight.
Cadbole County is a much improved football team Carbole County.
You know they beat Critney County last season. In fact,
the Tigers rattled off three consecutive wins before losing to
May in the playoffs. This is an improved Caldwell County team.

(35:04):
They were young a few years ago when they kind
of had to hit the reboot coach McClung has built
them back up from the from the ground up. And
this is a Caldwell County team that is coming off
of a thirty one to twenty win over Hopkins County Central.
This is a better football team than Crickney County was.
They've got a good quarterback Lander. We saw him a

(35:25):
few years ago as a freshman with Graves County and
he was terrific. Then good decision, but just a good athlete.
And when you've got a good athlete at quarterback, you've
always got a chance. So I gave you Marshall County
stats Caldwell County last week in their win, Lander was
eight to fifteen with a one hundred and four sorry,
one hundred and fifty two yards passing, one touchdown, no interceptions.

(35:48):
As a team, thirty rushes, one hundred and twenty one
rushing yards, two touchdowns. So the offense was not stellar
last week, but they played a quality opponent and they
got a quality win. And this game is at Caldwell County.
That does sort of slightly maybe make Caldwell County a favorite.
I do think this is more than that fifty to
fifty game territory. And like I said before I starts. Listen,

(36:10):
I've done this before. I've sang the praises. I've kind
of jumped on the Marshall bandwagon and then got completely
rolled down the hill off of it. So I'm not
gonna do that just yet. I do think Marshall County
can go on the road and get the win tonight,
and to be honest with you, I'm just go ahead
and do it. I'm gonna pick the Marshals. But this

(36:31):
is a tough one for me. And if Marshall County
gets this one again, another good opponent next week in
Trigg County, but you could end up three to zero.
And I've said it before, kind of like what Callowai
County is doing this season. If Callaway is gonna have
that big jump forward or take those steps forward they've got.
You know, three of their next four weeks are winnable
football games for Marshall County when you look at their schedule,

(36:54):
when you look at the district they play in, which
is as tough as any. If they're gonna get to
four wins, which is over that three win hump, if
they're gonna even have a chance at five wins, you
can't lose tonight. You can't lose tonight, you can't lose
next week. It gets really hard after that. There's still
some winnable games in there, but it gets really hard
after that. So you've got to go get it tonight.

(37:17):
If this is that step forward season, it has to
translate two wins, and this has to be one of them.
I'm picking the Marshalls, all right. Moving on, let's talk
McCracken County at Logan County. McCracken County at Logan County.
I think this is gonna be a good football game.
I think this is gonna be a really good football game.
By the way, Logan County has traditionally been a very

(37:39):
good football team and a very consistent football team. They
were a bit down by their standards a year ago.
But McCracken County is supposed to be an improved football
team as well. So these are two teams on the rise.
This game is at Logan County. That's a pretty good drive.
It's in the Bowling Green area. It's always tough to
travel and have those long road games and get off

(38:01):
the bus and get get kind of in at a
mindset to play football. It's hard to stay up on
a bus ride and not get tired, not get lethargic,
not get a little, you know, stiff. So we'll see
Logan County coming off of a win over a very
good Hart County team nineteen to fifteen last week, McCracken
County coming off of the sixty three to twenty eight
loss to Tilman. You look at the stats for McCracken

(38:22):
County for the Mustangs again, just one game in the season,
nineteen of thirty for Mattix O'Neill, two touchdowns, two interceptions,
one hundred and eighty two passing yards. As a team,
they ran the football thirty two times for just eighty
one yards and two touchdowns. Last week again though that
was against Tilman. Logan County, on the other hand, again
a low scoring game. They were fourteen of twenty two

(38:44):
passing one to eighteen, one touchdown, no interceptions, But they
ran the football well. In fact, Christian Helly was nineteen carries,
one hundred and forty two yards and two touchdowns alone
twenty five carries one eighty three to two touchdowns as
a team. So their strength is to run the football.
I actually think that might be okay for McCracken County.
Mucracken County might be alright with that. Their run defense

(39:08):
might be a little bit better than the pass defense.
McCracken County can throw the football. Now, Hart County did
not have success last week throwing the football, but they
don't throw the football, they run the football. They were
five of ten eighty yards in a touchdown, so not
a lot of pass attempts. Forty one rushes though for
one hundred and ninety two yards in a touchdown. So listen,

(39:33):
it's tough to pick a road opponent to go on
the road, a big road game like that and get
a win. McCracken County's gonna get it done tonight. They're
gonna go to Logan County. Their pass attack is gonna
be gonna be good enough, and I think their defense
is gonna be good enough to go on the road
and get it done. McCracken County wins. And by the way,
this is the first meeting between those two schools, so

(39:54):
first time ever Logan County McCracken County meeting. So there's
that all right. Moving along, Mayfield and Christian County. Christian
County coming off of a forty eight to twenty loss
to Northeast Clarksville. And I'm going to say it again. Listen,
this was my high horse last season. I don't mind
jumping back on it because I advocate for the student athlete.
I want them to be highlighted. I want their success,

(40:17):
whatever it may be, even if the team is not
having success, I want any bit of success. Those players
are having to be highlighted and be available. Christian County
last season took a month and a half to put
game stats on the website. I don't care if you're
good or not. You owe it to your kids to
make sure their numbers are up. You owe it to

(40:38):
your kids to make sure they can be covered by
those that are trying to cover them. And the more
difficult you make it, the less coverage that you give them.
And here we are a week after the first football game,
no stats for Christian County. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous, especially
for Christian County six a football school. Come on, so

(40:59):
we can't talk about what Christian County did or did
not do last week, and we won't be able to
anytime they face one of the teams from our region,
and they'll face McCracken County late later in the year,
and I almost would go ahead and bet money that
we won't be able to talk about their stats then.
And that's October seventeenth. So what I can tell you
is Mayfield's good. They're gonna go on the road and
they're gonna take it to Christian County tonight. Mayfield goes

(41:23):
and gets a big win. Mayfield, for what it's worth,
their numbers so far on the season. They threw the
football thirty three times last week against Graves County twenty
one to thirty three for Gray Robbins two thirty four
no touchdowns but no interceptions, twenty six rushes, five touchdowns
on the ground one hundred and twenty four yards as
a team a week ago. Mayfield gets it done tonight.

(41:44):
Moving along, we've got a couple of more left. Fulton
County at South Fulton. This is a game that a
year ago and I'm trying to find it. Hold on,
don't bear with me. This was a loss for Fulton
County a year ago, forty seven to six. You know,
last season, Fulton County lost to Glee in Tennessee thirty
four to twenty eight. This season, they lost forty two
to thirty eight. So maybe Fulton County is a little

(42:07):
bit better. But they've had such a similar result in
week one you worry that that's gonna hold. In week
two they've got to travel south of the border to
take on South Fulton Tennessee. It's an away game, it's
a home game for South Fulton. I don't know much
about South Fulton, but if you're just basing it on,
so far, things looked very similar to last season. It
looks like South Fulton will get a win. That'll be

(42:28):
my pick. But let's go. Let's go, Pilots, let's go
get a win. Come on, come on, this is gonna
be your year you show some improvement. Let's go and
at last, but not least, Ballard Memorial and Joe Burns
Cedar Hill, Tennessee. Ballard losing last week thirty two to
twenty eight to Todd County Central. A year ago, they had

(42:49):
the same matchup in week two. It was at Joe Burns,
which is Cedar Hill Tennessee, and Ballard lost thirty eight
to twenty. Now Joe Burns has to come a ballad.
But it looks like Joe Burns still may be the
better team, getting rooting for the Bombers. Gonna have to
pick the team out of Tennessee. You know, let's go

(43:09):
get it done, though, prove me wrong, make me eat
a big o'd plate of crow on Monday. So my
picks this week. I've got Graves over Tillman, I know,
I know, I'm the one. I've got Mayfield Big over
Christian County. I think Murray is over Callaway County and Crosstown.
Give me Marshall at Caldwell, give me m crackin at
Logan South Fulton over Fulton County and Joe Burns over

(43:31):
Ballad Memorial, although rooting for both of those schools. All right,
that is it for us on this Friday. I hope
you've enjoyed, enjoy the games, to not enjoy your weekend.
The weather's gonna be great. It is a holiday weekend,
which does mean again no show on Monday. Sorry, it's
a holiday. I'm gonna be off, You're gonna be off.
Go enjoy. We'll be back on Wednesday of next week

(43:53):
and see how we did and talk about Week three
of the football season. Until then, this has been Region
