This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Then away we go on a Monday. It is your Monday,
September fifteenth edition of the Region one Sports Report. I'm
Brian Yorke and as always, you can get in touch
with the show via text line at two seven oh five,
three four forty three oh eight. You can always connect
on social media on Twitter x whatever we call it
now at Region one Sports and on Facebook at Region
(00:37):
one Sports Report. How are we doing on a Monday?
How are you doing on this Monday? It was another
hot weekend, getting tired of those, another dry weekend, very
tired of those. But it was a weekend, and hopefully
yours was very good. Dragging this morning, I know I
tend to say that a lot, but you know, it
is like six fifteen in the am as I record
(01:00):
this show, so I'm gonna be dragging a lot, but
very very much dragging this morning. Overslept. I don't know
what I did. Now, I know what I did. I
kept hitting snooze, but I guess in my head I
miscounted the amount of times I hit snooze. That's that's
how I know. What time it is to get up.
I basically know if I hit snooze three times, I
(01:21):
need to get up the fourth time the alarm goes off.
I know, I know, but I set the alarm a
little earlier than I need to so that it gives
me time to kind of collect myself in the morning,
collect my thoughts, sort of start to wake up. It's early.
The alarm goes off at four am, forgive me, so
I know that I got to count to three and
on the fourth times the charm I miscounted clearly because
(01:45):
it was well, let's just say I get up at
usually around four forty four to forty five. It was
five point fifteen when I got out of bed this
morning and had to scramble and rush and bust it
to get to work. But we're here, we're recording. Things
are fine, but I am running behind, and thankfully thinkfully,
because I'm a big coffee guy and I've just had
(02:06):
trouble the last I don't know a few years of
really making good coffee. I've got a good coffee maker
at home. It does the trick. But the one I
keep at work, whether it's a smaller mister coffee, I
just I just can't get the coffee ratio down or something.
Water's not right. I don't know what it is. It
just doesn't make great coffee to me. And and forget
CA cups. Like I used to do the CA cups,
(02:26):
I really can't do them anymore. And so thankfully, because
I was like, man, I'm gonna have to make coffee
and I'm running behind. It's gonna be a long morning
and i'm gonna be dragging all day. Thankfully, I had
a monster energy drink in the refrigerator. And here's the thing.
I'm not super big on the energy drinks. I try
not to drink them often. I'm a big kickstart guy.
I like them out and do kickstarts, but they're not
(02:48):
quite the same as the as the monsters and red
bulls and things like that, so I try not to.
But I had one and I'm about halfway through it,
and holy col thank goodness I did, because I don't
know if coffee would have done the trick. I don't
even know if I'd just now be getting to a
cup of coffee as far behind as I've read this morning,
but I don't think coffee would have done the trick.
(03:09):
The thing about coffee. I do like the most is
just the kind of sipping and enjoying it in the morning.
It's kind of easy into your day, like I said,
though I didn't have time to do that today. So
the Monster Energy it is right on point. And if
you're curious, I drink the white one, the zero sugar,
the white whatever that flavor is. I don't know. It's
the only one I've ever drank it. I liked it,
I don't you know. Like I said, I don't try
(03:29):
to enjoy too many energy drinks if I don't have to.
But I am this morning, all right. We got a
lot to get into today. We've got week four of
the football season, a recap from Friday night. We've got
to go back over scores and stats and things and
get caught up on what happened Friday night. As we
move into week five, we are officially almost not quite
(03:51):
a few days away from the midway point, the mid
way point of the football season, which is just it's insane.
We've got some soccer scores to go over, some volleyball
scores to go over from the weekend. We got a
lot to get into. So let's do that thing that
we do. Let's talk high school sports and let's go
over scores first on your Monday edition of the show.
(04:13):
All right, we'll hit football in a moment. Let's go
over some volleyball scores first. But we had the two
A and all A this weekend, So the two A
State Volleyball Championship. In volleyball, Corbyn defeated Calloway County two
sets to none. In the Kentucky All A Classic volleyball,
(04:33):
it was Seer beating Ballad Memorial two sets to none,
and then Trinity Christian beat Ballad Memorial two sets to none.
So that's volleyball. That's all A. And then the two
A Calloway County falling to Corbyn. Moving on to soccer
for the weekend. Now, I'm not going over every score,
I get it. I just did like for the weekend stuff,
we're hitting the highlights. And in volleyball it was two
(04:55):
A and all A. In soccer we had the two A.
In girls soccer we had Bull County beating Callowei County
seven to one. That is Callowai County's first loss of
the season. We'll come back to that. The Callowy County
falling seven to one in the two A championships, and
in boys soccer, it was Murray High not only winning
(05:16):
a game this weekend, but winning the entire two A
state championship. Murray High beating Rowan County for nil to
win the tow A state title. Murray State's unbeaten. They're
now to A state champs They're the favorite to win
the regional championship. What else you got for us Murray
High this season? What else you got? So Murray High
(05:37):
getting it done this weekend? By the way, this look
at a few stats from this one because it was
a state title. Brody Morris scored two goals, Crouch scored
two goals, and Hank Fronza saved three goals as they
blank Rowan County. So Murray High wins the two A
boys state title. And those are your scores from over
(05:58):
the weekend. Things that stood out. Now I'm gonna get
to football on a second. I know, I get it,
it's coming. But things that stood out in the non
football highlight scores from the weekend. Obviously, again Murray winning
the two A on the boys' side. They stay unbeaten
on the girl's side, though Callaway County falls in the
two A and they, by the way, fall for the
first time this season. As I said earlier, so pretty
(06:21):
remarkable by the way. I mean, they are eleven and
one on the year. They do have Murray coming up tonight,
so they go on the road to face Murray. Murray's
been struggling of late. Murray has played on the girl's side.
They have played three very good opponents in a row
and losing three in a row, losing to Callaway a
few games ago and then losing to Marshall County two
(06:42):
nil in back to back meetings with Marshall County. So
they get Callaway again and Callaway coming off of that
loss this weekend. We'll see where their heads are at.
Are they gonna you know, you would think I would think,
and they would probably tell you they're fine, They're good.
They got to go take care of a crosstown rival
and go keep getting it done in the first region.
(07:02):
Or is there a little bit of a hangover? I
think it's the I think it's the former, not the latter.
But we'll see tonight as they take on Murray. As
far as Murray's boys, they are in action to night
with Calawai County as well. That's a double header. And
Callaway County's boys they've been pretty good this year. So
Murray on the boys side doesn't need the same hangover,
but for different reasons. Right, they don't need the we
(07:24):
just won this hangover. They need to get back to
work and get it done tonight. We'll see how that goes.
So that's a look at your scores from non football
from the weekend, or at least the highlights, the ones,
the big, big moments, big games from the weekend. All right,
now for football scores, kind of a blow them out Friday.
Let's just be honest. One close game. It was not.
(07:47):
It was not a great game early turned out to
be a great game in the second half, although I
spent so much time fighting technical difficulty issues trying to
broadcast the game that I don't know I remember much
about the second half. We'll talk about what what I
do know. So only one real close game this weekend.
Everything else went blowout city. So here you go. Here's
(08:08):
the scores. You had. Mayfield over McCracken County thirty nine
to three. Wow, Murray beat Marshall County fifty five twenty eight.
Callaway County with vengeance over Ballard from a year ago
forty five to six. Yikes, you had Bruceton, bruston Bruceton.
I don't know. They beat Fulton County thirty nine to sixteen,
(08:29):
and I heard that game had to be stopped because
of some ugly fans on the home side. Fulton County
was the away team, but the home fans not too nice,
and so that game was called and made official I
think in the fourth court, early in the fourth quarter,
I think, But yeah, Fulton County does fall, and then
Graves County and Union County the only good game, only
(08:50):
close game of the night, as the Eagles beat Union
County nineteen fifteen and get their first win of the season.
So again Mayfield over mccracking, big, Murray overmar Big Calloe
over Ballard, Big brust In Tennessee over Fulton County big,
and then Graves County over Union County by four in
what turned out to be a very close, very good,
very nail bider of a game until the end, and
(09:13):
a crazy game. And I'll get into all of that
in a little bit, but those are your scores. So
let's take a break. We'll come back, we'll have stats,
we'll have a breakdown, we'll have game flow, whatever we
need to talk about what we got on Friday night
and start setting you up for this week, week five,
halfway halfway through the football season. We'll get into that
when we come back. This is Reagion one Sports and.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
There were some things going on in sports today that
will make your brain fall out of your skull. You
were listening to the Region one Sports Report on ninety
nine to five the fan dear arm clock tingling ringing
in my i' wlk up, don't turn team down, half.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Team reaching one sports. As we move along on your
Monday edition of the show, let's talk high school f
football from week four of the football season. Kind of
a lot, but not a lot to talk about. Not
a lot of close, thrilling nel bider who's gonna win them?
Kind of football games? On Friday there was one the
game I was at, Graves County beating Union County, UH
(10:15):
nineteen fifteen ends up being your final. The Eagles a
void and get this, this is insane. And when I
talk about and people are like, you're a Graves County
home You're now I'm I'm a fan of consistency. I'm
a fan of good programs. I'm a fan of underrated
and underappreciated programs, and I think the Graves County football
team is in that category. They were oh and three
(10:36):
for the first time since twenty eleven. I think that
season they ended up winning just four games, but they
did go on to win four games. That's kind of
the point. But they were oh and three for the
first time since twenty eleven. If my mat is correct,
and it rarely is, that's a fourteen year period. That's
fourteen years in between starting oh and three, which is
(10:56):
pretty good. It's pretty consistent. They were trying to avoid
their first oh and four start since two thousand and three.
So put that in perspective, a program that had not
started oh to four in over twenty years, a program
that had started oh to three for the first time
in fourteen years. This has been a very good, very underappreciated,
(11:19):
very consistent program. And that was what was on the
line on Friday night. This was a big game. Hey,
you don't beat Union County on Friday night, you're not
just oh and four, You're you're probably oh and five,
maybe o and six before you get a win. And
then at that point you're hoping, hoping you can edge
out two or three wins to finish out the year.
(11:42):
So you could have been oh and six with this loss,
but you're not. And now if you're Graves County, you
got the win. Now, Listen, I'm a Graves County homer.
But they're not going to be the favorite on Friday
Night with Owensborough, even though that is at home. They're
not going to be the favorite going on the road
against Madisonville. But you look at upo winnable game. Marshall
County still a winnable game, Beilenberg County, Yeah, yeah, and
(12:07):
then McCracken County. Who knows, this could go from zero
to three to five hundred, maybe plus five hundred if
you can pull out an upset over the next few weeks.
So not all is lost and not all is over
for Graves County. And that's the point. It was not
always a pretty game on Friday Night. It was not pretty,
but it was a win. The Eagles trailed seven to
(12:29):
nothing after the first quarter, they trailed seven to nothing
at halftime, which yeah, wow, that kind of game. And
it wasn't you know, it was a very good defensive game.
I think both teams defenses played well. I didn't think
Graves's offense played particularly well or as well as Union
County's defense looked to be playing. I think that was
(12:49):
more on the Graves County side at times early in
the football game. But Graves County's defense was playing very,
very well, and they played well overall. And I'll give
the numbers in a moment. Thing at the half, let's
be honest, kind of a bland, kind of all right,
for first half of a football game. The second half, though,
(13:09):
you started to check the bingo card of a lot
of things that you don't you don't normally get to
see in a football game. Special teams plays being made.
I mean, check the box. There's a block punt, a
field goal, a safety. I mean, it's some crazy things
started to happen in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter,
Graves County got on the board Aiden Pate with a
(13:30):
two yard run to tie things at seven with three
pot fifty three left in the third quarter. That was
set up by great special teams play, a block punt,
and then the punt was scooped up and returned by
coleman Amos to the two yard line. He almost got
in he was determined to get in, but he was denied.
He came up short. Grapes County came out and Aiden
Pate punched it in for him. So the block punt
(13:53):
sets them up for their first touchdown to the game,
ties the game at seven, and that's the score to
end the third quarter. Then you come out fourth quarter
or early in the quarter, Graves County gets a safety,
so they score two points, go up nine to seven
with ten to fifty four remaining in the football game.
And then about a minute and a half later, on
their ensuing offensive drive, they come up with a thirty
(14:15):
nine yard field goal. So twelve seven. I mean, that's
what we all thought would happen, right, a block punt
leading to a touchdown to tie the game, a safety,
and now a field goal. I mean, they they scored
five like you rarely see a five point swing in
a football game, and they go from seven to seven
to adding five points and go on up twelve to seven.
(14:35):
Then Union County responds, they come back and score with
six about six and a half left in the football game.
Now it's fifteen to twelve, Graves County trailing with under
three minutes to play. They're down three with an oh
to three start, with an oh to four start looming
if they can't get a drive together. But they got
(14:57):
a drive together. Brady ended up punching in a six
yard run with two oh four remaining. In the football game,
nineteen fifteen ends up being your final score. Like I said,
it wasn't always pretty, but it was certainly thrilling, especially
in that second half. The Eagles trailed seven to nothing
at the half. They come back and get a five
point lead, twelve seven because everybody had that score, you
(15:21):
know on their bingo card. Union County comes back, they
score converted, two point conversion. It's fifteen to twelve. It's
a three point game. Graves is driving the football. But man,
you know, their worst start since two thousand and three.
On the line. As they're moving the football, have it,
you know, tell their offense who'd been struggling all night long.
You gotta get it done. And then they get it done.
(15:42):
Nineteen fifteen ends up being your final The stats in
this one, the Eagles were fifty one yards passing eighty
three yards rushing. Now that was a little deceiving because
Brady Rozel was eighteen carries for eighty six yards in
a touchdown at the go ahead touchdown, So the negative
yardage came on sacks. But fifty one passing yards, eighty
(16:04):
three rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns. That's it for the
Graves County offense. And they got to win over a
very good Union County team. Why because their defense was
also very good. They found Away, that's their home modo,
find a way, and they found Away on Friday night,
and then those kids, those kids needed it, they deserved it.
(16:24):
They held Union County defensively. Union County had been averaging
like two hundred and thirty yards rushing per game, so
roughly two hundred and thirty yards rushing per game, seventy
two yards passing per game, and they held Union County
to forty two passing yards and one hundred and seventy
one rushing yards. Yeah, I know that seems like a lot,
but not when you're averaging two hundred and thirty yards
(16:49):
two rushing touchdowns, but again just one seventy one on
the ground and forty two in the air. So Graves
County's defense was very good. So when your offense has
been struggling, you've got to find ways to make plays.
In other areas. Grace County's defense again good, but they
found ways in the special teams game to to kind
of get some things going with a block punt that
led to the touchdown and then the field goal. I mean,
(17:10):
special teams was credited really essentially with ten points in
that football game. And when you're struggling, you got to
find a way again. Their motto, their their their hashtag,
and they did. Unfortunately, I couldn't call the game. We
had internet issues, and I'm gonna go ahead and tell
them myself. The modem for our Internet was going out,
(17:32):
and typically it was like we were dropping internet. That's
what it appeared to be. And it's done that before,
and occasionally it'll do it and I'll catch it and
you'll you do a power recycle and everything's fine. It's
you know, Verizon Internet on a modem whatever. And Friday
night it did it. I power reset and it didn't work,
and I power it. It didn't work, and it would
(17:53):
come in and go out, and it would come in
and be in for like five minutes and then would
go out for ten. It was getting very frustrating. And
then only in the fourth quarter, I think early in
the fourth quarter. It just went out, just would not
come like the whole thing shut down, would not come
back on. My laptop's working. My my com rex, which
is what we connect to the studio, is working like
modem gone. So here's what I'll tell on myself. As
(18:17):
we're breaking down the equipment, as we're putting everything up,
I go to unplug the main extension cord which is
what everything's running off of, and it's kinda barely plugged in,
like it's it's worked its way out. It's it's not
plugged in all that. Well, now I had power to
my laptop at yes, those things run run on battery.
(18:39):
The only thing that does not run on battery was
the modem, and it was not working. Come to fight out.
It just wasn't plugged in good enough, I know, but listen,
I'm honest, there's no sense in hiding it. I would
have never thought to check the main plug. Never. We've
always i mean I've been doing games there for five years.
(18:59):
I've always plugged in and was able to forget about it.
But for whatever reason, that cord had worked itself loose.
You know, all the other chords like plugged into the
power surge part of the extension cord, that they they
were all plugged in. I didn't think about the main plug.
I didn't think about the one that mattered most, the
only one that mattered. And then I didn't think about, hey,
(19:20):
these run off batteries, so of duh, they're on like
you know, when there's no power source, the battery kicks in.
Just never crossed my mind. Just assume, because that motive
had been given us some issues in the past, that
we were having issues with it, assumed it just went dead.
They're finicky, they're not meant to be you know, they're
they're kind of for home use. They're not meant to
be plugged in and tore down and put up as
(19:42):
much as we turned that one on and off. So
I just thought, you know, five years it was a
good run. It's gone. Nope, it's fine it you know,
human error. Yep, I know, all right, you gotta take
a break. We'll do that, we'll come back. We'll talk
about the other games on Friday night. So we talked
to our only close game. We got a lot of blowouts,
but they still mean something. We'll talk about it when
(20:04):
we return. This is Region one.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
The Region one Sports Report on all major podcast platforms
and ninety nine to five of the Fan.
Speaker 2 (20:22):
Reagion on sports. As we move along here on this
Monday edition of the show recapping Friday nights football games.
And then before we get done, we'll set up and
talk about who's got who coming up in week five
of the football season as we move into district play
where things really shake out and get interesting on the
football season. So he's got Grahames and Union County. The
(20:44):
rest kind of went blowout City, but let's talk about them.
We had Mayfield and McCracken. Mayfield ends up scoring first.
We'll do the scoring than the stats. Mayfield scores first.
They score and go up seven to nothing at the
nine to fourteen mark in the first quarter as prior
Overstreet punched in a four yard touchdown run. So seven
nothing Cardinals at the start of the football game. McCracken
(21:07):
County would answer with three twenty five left in the quarter.
They would get a thirty seven yard field goal and
make it a seven to three football game. Here we go.
But then less than a minute later, Mayfield would score again.
Gray Robbins would hit Malik Kirby for a sixty six
yard touchdown. Fourteen to three is your score, and then
(21:27):
that's the score, by the way, at the end of
the first quarter. Then you get into the second quarter,
ten forty seven mark, you had a one yard touchdown
run for Mayfield. It's twenty one to three Cardinals pulling
away in this one. Now the crazy thing is shared
on XS, shared on Twitter, was at that point ten
forty seven remaining in the first half, twenty one to
(21:49):
three is your score. Mayfield had ran twenty two plays,
McCracken County had ran seventeen plays, each offense getting ample opportunity.
Mayfield had two hundred and one total yards, McCracken County
had thirty four. Not all opportunity is truly equal. Mayfield
would score again. Twenty nine to three. Year score was
(22:11):
six and a half to play in the first half,
and then thirty two to three Year score as a
thirty nine yard field goal attempt from Mayfield with fifty
eight seconds remaining in the half made that Year score
at the halftime break thirty two to three. The final,
by the way, thirty nine to three, So a lot
of offense and scoring in the first half, just one
score in the second half. It came from Mayfield and
(22:31):
that only score ended up being that field goal early
in the first quarter for McCracken County thirty nine to three.
Let's look at the stats because they are a bit staggering. Unofficially,
this was the stats as of Friday. Mayfield with five
hundred and six total yards of offense, two hundred and
seventy one yards passing, two hundred thirty five rushing, five
(22:55):
hundred six yards total offense, McCracken County one hundred and
seventy three, seventy six passing yards, ninety seven rushing yards.
That is all she wrote for McCracken County on Friday night.
It was definitely that Mayfield defense showing up and showing
out on Friday. The Mustangs fall to one and three
(23:16):
on the season. Mayfield improves to three and one. Now
more specific stats for Mayfield because they are posted officially.
Gray Robbins was eighteen of thirty two hundred and seventy
three yards and three passing touchdowns. Reggie Dowell ended up
being the leading rusher in this game, not Josiah England.
It was Dow with sixteen carries and one hundred and
twenty three yards with one touchdown. Thirty total rushes for
(23:40):
two hundred and forty five yards for Mayfield, they just
could not could not be stopped by that McCracken County defense.
Then it again ends up being your final. Now Mayfield
will turn their attention to Critton County, a very winnable
football game. Critneon County two and two on the year
with losses to Marshall and Union County. The Mustangs will
(24:01):
turn their attention to Union County, who I just saw now, Listen,
I think this is a game that McCracken County can win,
no doubt about it. Union County's defense is good, but
McCracken County I think should be the favorite in this game.
It is on the road. That is one little nugget.
It is on the road. Morganfield is not always a
fun place to travel to. But we'll talk about that
(24:23):
more as the week goes on. So that is McCracken,
That is Mayfield from Friday. How about Marshall County and Murray.
Murray had a Listen, that game with Graves County was
closer than it. That final score indicated Graves had a
chance to take a lead. A penalty brought the touchdown
back and then from there and an injury following on
the next play. Kind of the flates Graves County, Murray
(24:45):
takes advantage. They win thirty two to fourteen. That's their
lowest scoring output of the season so far and remains
to be the case as they beat Marshall County fifty
five to twenty eight. The stats in this game are
absolutely staggering. I'm not even gonna go back through the
quarterback quarter on that because we just so much, so
many plays would have to talk about, but the total
(25:05):
stats are where it's at for Murray. Whytt Robbins was
seventeen of twenty with eight touchdowns on seventeen completions for
three hundred and thirty six yards. Seventeen of twenty three
thirty six eight touchdowns. I mean, it almost doesn't get better.
(25:27):
I mean, if he'd have been twenty for twenty would
have been better, but that it doesn't get better. As
a team, they only ran the football eight times for
seventy four yards. They didn't have to, they had their way.
And I've said this about Marshall County and I believe,
I believe if you go back and listen to Friday Show,
I said this on Friday. Football games, wins and losses
usually come down to just matchups. Just you know, where's
(25:49):
the matchup at, Who's got the advantage in what area?
These two teams just don't match up well. Marshall County
strengths are on the interior. Marshall County strengths are at
the line, the line of scrimmage. You know, with their size,
their strength, their ability to kind of muscle some teams around,
it's not in those skill positions. And I don't mean
that as a diss that's just not their strength. That's
(26:10):
just not how they're gonna win football games by going
toe to toe with your best skill guys. Murray had
the advantage in the skill positions. Murray had the better
players at the skill spots, and it was proven to
be the case. Seventeen of twenty three thirty six eight touchdowns.
They didn't feel the need to even run the football.
And by the way, twenty pass attempts, not a lot,
(26:30):
not a ton. So essentially twenty pass attempts and eight
offensive rushes that's twenty eight plays. That's twenty eight plays.
And Murray scores fifty five points and Marshall County did
some good things. They did move the football, they did
put up twenty eight, but in the end it was
(26:52):
those skill spots. Marshall County ended up being ninety six
yards passing. Now listen to this, this is the crazy thing.
They had two hundred and seventeen yards rushing, forty four
rush attempts for two seventeen and four rushing touchdowns. What
did I just say. Marshall County is gonna beat you.
They're gonna have to control the line of scrimmage, control clock, control,
(27:13):
gain possession. And they do that and they do it
well because they got the guys to do it. They
got the line, they can push you down around, and
they can move the football on the ground. Murray, they
don't care about moving the football on the ground. They
care about going through the air. They care about quick hits,
home run hits, and putting you away. And they got
the guys to do that. And that's what won on Friday.
(27:35):
That's what won on Friday, plain and simple. So again,
good things for Marshall County, but Murray's just that team
this year. It's crazy. What an offensive production from I
mean Marshall County ran I mean twenty one pass attempts
and forty four rushing attempts and still lost fifty five
(27:56):
to twenty eight. They ran as many offensive plays and
still nearly doubled up. Again, It's just comes down to matchups,
and that was just not a good matchup for Marshall County.
Just wasn't. Just like and I'll just say this, when
Marshall plays Graves this year and there's a long win
streak for Graves County in that series on the line,
(28:19):
it feels like the matchup favors Marshall this year because
their strength is where Graves has been weak and Graves
has not been as good in the skills spots to
this point as we think they will be and can be.
But until that improves Marshall County's advantage, the matchup favors
Marshall with what they do well and what Graves doesn't.
(28:40):
But we'll see Friday night at favored Murray. So that's
Marshall and Murray. What else we got? How about Callaway
and Ballard? My goodness, Calloway County. And you can sit
here all day long and people excuse away these games
and they go well, but it's you know, they've beat
Fulton County and Ballard. Those teams aren't very good, and
the County was awful last season. They've been terrible for
(29:03):
two years. They've not been good. They lost to Ballard
Memorial last season. Now, I get it. Ballard had a
couple of guys that had transferred in that have since
transferred out. That made a difference. I get it. The
Cali County was as bad as it gets a season ago.
And so what do you do. You make sure you
have a schedule that is at least competitive for you,
(29:25):
and they did that this year. But it's not just
been competitive. In their three wins, they have blown out
their opponents. Now, listen, these opponents have proven to be
really bad this season. But it doesn't matter what do
I say on this show all the time. Good teams
beat bad teams bad. Good teams beat bad teams bad.
Sixty two nothing over Webster County, forty eight fourteen over
(29:45):
Fulton County, and forty five six over Ballard. My goodness,
and listen to these numbers. Matthew Ridwell, the junior, the quarterback,
twenty two of thirty eight, three seventy eight and six touchdowns,
no picks. Calloway County did not run the football. I remember
Logan Smith like set a score record or something a
(30:05):
week ago. He didn't even touch the football on the backfield.
They just went to the air and went to it
well and said, hey, this works, let's do it. I
mean only six in complete passes, but they only ran
the football as a team eight times for fourteen yards,
no touchdowns. On the ground, didn't need to had their
(30:26):
way in the pass game. Four ballad in this one.
After being shut out in their previous two games. They
did get on the scoreboard and scored six points, but
Calloway's defense held them to eighty six yards passing. They
were five of ten, one touchdown, no picks, but they
had eighteen rush attempts for negative twenty five yards, and
(30:49):
their quarterback only accounted for negative seven. So those sacks
did not really account for much negative twenty five rushing yards. Now,
I do agree, on a normal year, if Callaway County
is playing up to being a good for a football team,
if they're just an average for a football team, they
much issue with Ballard. They should not have much issue
(31:12):
normally with Fulton County on a normal year. This is
it's not been normal for Callaway County the last few years.
These are the pheel good wins and these are the
wins that they did not get the last few years.
So they Avenge lost to Fulton County last week. Remember
Fulton County beat them sixty two to fourteen a year ago.
Fulton County has got a lot of the same dudes back.
(31:33):
Calby County has got a lot of the same dudes back.
They got a lot of freshness, they got a new coach,
they got new life, they got new energy. And they
lost that game a year ago sixty two to fourteen.
They won it two weeks ago forty eight fourteen. Haven't
played Ballard in a minute. In fact, that's only the
second time I think they've ever played Ballard. They played
(31:54):
them in twenty twelve and then of course this year
and again forty five six. That's what you've got to do,
and that tells me Callaway hasn't just isn't just turning
a corner. That tells me they should be competitive in
some of these other games with Warren East this week. Listen,
Warren East is not a good football team. This is
another winnable game for Callaway. Then you go on the
(32:16):
road to Logan County, Logan County right now four and
oh they're a good football team. I don't expect you
to win that game. But if you're gonna go put
a whooping on them smaller not very good schools this year,
you better be competitive when you play these good teams.
You can't go get blown out, you can't go get
run off the field in this game. Then they got
(32:38):
Franklin Simpson. Again, they won't be the favorite in that game,
but again expect them to be competitive. And then Allen
County Scott's Full is not good, Paduka Tillmans very good
and Marshall County's good this season. So Callaway with three wins,
they have a shot at four this week. They have
a shot at five by the time they get to
October seventeenth. And then if you can go still a
(33:01):
win against Marshall County, which could happen, you go from
winless to six wins. You go from windless to five wins.
What a turnaround. But good for Callaway on Friday night.
I know that had to feel good. Tough one for Ballard.
It's just been tough, been tough this season. What a
difference some transfers can make. Man, What a difference, and
(33:24):
then last but not least, Bruceton Tennessee beating up on
Fulton County. Fulton County, they're just having a tough year
this year, and you start to wonder if it's gonna happen,
if there's gonna be a win on the schedule. Yeah,
I think so. They've got Ballard coming up. I think
they'll get that win. I do. That's coming up in
a couple of weeks, three weeks or three you know,
(33:45):
football weeks, but a tough one to Bruceton Tennessee. Don't
have their stats, but I mean, listen, Fulton County went
down there and ran the football thirty three times for
two hundred and thirty two yards and two touchdowns. You
got two and thirty two rushing yards out of your team,
and they just could not get a stop or get
enough stops to win that football game. And that's where
(34:08):
the struggle is going to be. They've given up forty two,
thirty three, forty eight and thirty nine points, just not
going to be able to stop anybody. But I think
that Ballad game might might be the one they can get.
If they get one. It's just been tough this year
for Fulton just has and that's it for us. Out
of time, out of topic, out of energy, drink. It
(34:29):
still really hasn't kicked in yet. Maybe that'll happen when
I'm you know, moving on to the rest of my morning.
But that's it for today. We'll be back on Wednesday
with a lot more scores and things from volleyball and soccer.
The next two nights we'll start previewing and sending you
up for week five of the football season and much more.
I hope you've enjoyed as always, don't forget to get
