Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five the Fan and away we
go on your Wednesday. It is a Wednesday, September seventeenth
edition of the Region one Sports Report. I'm Brian Yorke
and as always, you can get in touch with us
here on the show via social media. You can do
(00:27):
that on x at Region one Sports, on Facebook at
Region one Sports Report, and on our text line at
two seven h five three four forty three eight. How
are you doing. We're halfway through the week. Hopefully you're
doing well. Still dry, still hot, what's new? But Week
five of the football season is here, so that's new.
Week halfway halfway come on, and of course we'll talk
(00:52):
about that, start previewing our games for Friday, and much
more here in week five of the football season coming
up here on the show today. Before we get started,
before we get into sports, I gotta say you know,
I've done this show now for eight years. I've covered
prep sports and school sports for over twenty years, nearly
twenty five years, a quarter of a century, which is insane,
(01:15):
but it is true. And all of that time I
had this vantage point of getting to see athletes sort
of at the peak or near the end of their
prep sports journey, right, athletes who come in as freshmen
and you know, heralded freshmen and watch out for this
one and this one's gonna do. And you watch these
(01:36):
athletes grow, and you watch these athletes produce at great levels,
watch guys and girls you know, do amazing things, go
off to college, get to talk to their parents. And
like I said, for twenty five years, I've experienced sort
of the end, the back end of that journey, of
the work that was put in to get there, of
(01:56):
the development years, Right, I missed those dives. I'm seeing
the result of the development. I'm seeing the result of
that hard work put in. And now as a parent,
I'm experiencing the other end of that. I'm experiencing those
development moments. I'm experiencing those those years where that work
goes into it to get them where they want to go.
(02:19):
And I got to say that new perspective is profound.
It is such a different viewpoint than the one I've
been used to. I'm used to seeing the results, not
the process, right, And to be honest, it has given
me a whole new perspective on that view that I've
had for twenty five years. It's given me a whole
(02:40):
new appreciation of what those student athletes are accomplishing in
their high school careers, the struggles that they go through.
It's it's been eye opening, to be honest, and I
really do hope and I thought about this a lot
last night coming home from my sun's middle school baseball game.
(03:02):
I really do hope it makes me even better at
this job. I really do hope that that perspective can
continue to shape and mold and grow what we do
on this show to even better serve these student athletes
even better, promote what they're doing, be more focused and
more appreciative of what they're doing, and create a better
(03:24):
product here for Region one. I really do and I
thought about that a lot last night. It is sports prep, sports,
sports in general. But sports are hard. They're hard, and
I think sometimes we take for granted the great things
that are being done on the fields and on the court,
you know, and what these these athletes are accomplishing. I
(03:44):
think we take it for granted and we judge them,
I think too often by their failure. Right If we're
praising their success and ignoring when they're not having success.
That's us passing judgment on their failure. It's hard. It's
hard being a high school athlete, it's hard being a
student athlete. And so just kind of watching my own
kid struggle for the first time in his life, which
(04:06):
those lessons are invaluable, you know, having your child struggle
in something they've always had high levels of success in,
and you're trying as a parent to, you know, from
a wiser lived a little bit longer and experience a
little bit more perspective, ensure them that this is going
to make them better, Ensure them that this is going
(04:26):
to continue to help mold and shape who they are
as an athlete and as a person. But when you
watch them struggle, you again appreciate the journey and you
appreciate that destination, I think a little bit more. And
so watching that process play out in my own child,
watching him struggle in an area that he's never really
struggled in. He's having success in several other areas, but
(04:49):
struggling in one, and the work he's putting into that
and the frustration that he's he's dealing with with it
not paying off. As I sat last night and was
thinking about that, I started thinking about the athletes that
we cover and have covered over the years, and just again,
as I said, that new perspective of hopefully being more
understanding in my critique, hopefully being more understanding in my comments,
(05:14):
in my opinion, and in how we view and look
at their highs and their lows of their career. So anyway,
I just that was sort of my random thought for
this week and something that had been kind of weighing
on my mind last night into this morning. All right,
So with that said, let's hopefully apply that new perspective
today as we get into talking high school sports here
(05:35):
on Region one Sports. Let's first go back and review
scores from your Monday and Tuesday. We had some soccer
and volleyball to talk about, so let's talk about it.
On Monday, We'll start with volleyball. You had Carlisle County
over Fulton City three sets to none. You had Hickman
County over Livingston Central three sets to none, Marshall County
over CFS three sets to none, Mayfield over Callaway County
(05:57):
three to none, and Paduka Tilman over full Time In
County three sets to none. That is your scores from
volleyball on Monday, in soccer on Monday, and I've lost
my supot. How did I do that? Here we go.
In girls soccer on Monday, you had Mayfield over Obien
County Central eight nil, and you had Calloway County defeating
(06:19):
Murray High one nil. Wow, welcome back to that. That
was in Crosstown. That was in girl soccer. That's on Monday.
In boys soccer on Monday, you had Graves County and
Paduca Tilman tying two to two, and then Murray over
Callaway and their Crosstown match five to two. That's Monday scores.
Looking at Tuesday scores. In volleyball ballad Memorial over Livingson
(06:42):
Central three to one, Fort Campbell over Paduca Tillman two
sets to none, Mayfield over Christian Fellowship three to two,
and McCracken County over Saint Mary three sets to none.
In girls soccer, Calloway County nine to one over Mayfield,
McCracken County beat Graves County eight nil. In boys soccer,
Callaway County over Mayfield four to three, Kraken County over
(07:04):
Graves County nine to one, and Murray over UHA. That's
University heights three two. Those are your scores from around
the region on a Monday and Tuesday. Let's go back
quickly to Crosstown on Monday. Always a rivalry when these
schools get together are always, you know, fun. It's even
more fun when both these schools are good at the
(07:25):
sports they're playing, and they're both good in boys and
girls soccer. On the girls side, you had the better game, obviously,
a one nil win for Callaway County. They remain with
just one loss on the season in the two A
state championship. That's fine, It's okay. But they come back
and they beat Murray for the second time. By the
(07:46):
way one nil they've played twice. The difference is two
goals to none. I mean, like to nothing is the
difference in this game for Callaway County. The lone goal
came from McClure. She had the goal. Y'all come with
six goalkeeper saves. Pretty good stuff there from Calloway County.
(08:10):
Murray has now unfortunately lost their last four, which they
ironically don't have stats for online stats are there for
the wins, just saying, but they've lost their last four
one nil to Calloway County, two nil to Marshall County,
two nil to Marshall County and now one nil to
Calloway County. That's crazy. They've played two teams in the
(08:32):
last four games with the identical scores in those games.
The other theme though, unfortunately, all being shut out. And
again that's kind of where the region is. Callaway, then Marshall,
then McCracken, then probably Murray, but that was girls Crosstown
on Monday. The boys side, Murray continues to be Murray,
(08:55):
a five to two win. They come back last night
with three two over UHA, but five to two against
Halloway on Monday. You had goals. You had two goals
from Crouds. Burking had one and I have no I'm
gonna get it so wrong, but the kid's initials are
a in. He got another goal. I'm not even gonna
attempt to say it. Somebody's gonna text me and tell
(09:16):
me how to say it. That's great, it's it's it's
a long name with a hyphen. But he had a goal.
Franza and the goalkeeper he had six saves. Morris came in,
he had a save and Murray stays unbeaten. On the
boy's side, one tie and a whole bunch of wins
for Murray. Anything else that stood out, yeah, kinda. I
(09:38):
mean mccrack and rolling Boys and Girls Soccer. I mean
it's there, you go. I mean, that's kind of expected
this point. Like I said, we kind of review this
every show, But the region is what it is. On
the boy's side, it's Murray who is clearly the favorite,
but there are contenders behind them that may have a
(09:58):
say in that. On the girl's side, it's call Away,
but Marshall's right there with him, and McCracken's not going anywhere,
and Murray is certainly still not going anywhere. So that's
how things stand and stack and how things are around
the region in soccer. All right, gotta take a break.
We'll come back. We'll talk football Week five. Right here,
(10:18):
it's Region one. What would you say you do here? Sports?
Real sports, total corea basketball, football, baseball. We have one
goal here, Hello sports fans, the Region one Sports Report
on ninety nine to five, the fan were doing sports
(10:43):
as we move along on your Wednesday edition of the show.
You know, sometimes when I'm in a mood, need to
pick me up those old nineties TV show theme songs,
They just hit the spot. It just makes me want
to go home and just start binging them. You know,
family matter all the tg IF lineup, that's that's really
where it's at. But then you throw in some home improvement,
you throw in some fresh prints. But that TGIF lineup, man,
(11:06):
that the one line up there for a brief time
where you had family matters, you had Step by Step,
Boy meets World, even hanging with mister Kruper. Not bad.
I was a fan of Dinosaurs myself, the show Dinosaurs.
But but that lineup unbeatable, unbeatable. But yeah, when I'm
feeling a little blue, those those old theme songs just
(11:27):
have a way of hitting the spot. All right. We
are in week five of the football season. Can you
believe that week five of the football season? As of
this week, once Friday night is concluded, halfway done with
the regular season. Didn't we just start football? Didn't we
just start football? How is this halfway done? A lot
(11:49):
of district games this week as well, that makes things
even more intriguing. My Eagles. We host Owensborough, which is
not always easy or fun. You have you have Mayfield
and Critton County. That's a district game. Marshall County hosts Madisonville,
North Hawkins. That won't be fun either for the Marshalls,
(12:10):
I don't think, but we'll talk about that more in
a moment. Callaway County is in a district game and
a winnable district game this week as they face Warren
East Paducah. Tillman has let's see Franklin Simpson. It could
be a good game. Tilman should win, but that could
be a good game. We'll get into that more in
a moment. And then who am I missing? Who am
(12:31):
I missing? A non district game with Ballard Memorial taken
on Charleston, Missouri. And then Fulton County they have a
non district game with Greenfield, Tennessee. So there's that. By
the way, thanks to those who text in and again
that number five three four forty three eight. But one
of the texts clarifying how that Fulton County game ended
(12:54):
last week and I'm gonna miss it. Here we go. Apparently,
in recording to reports, apparently the Fulton County game was
called in that fourth quarter, sort of late in the
fourth quarter, as apparently some fans and some players were
making threats. I don't know the full story, but apparently
(13:14):
there were some fans going onto the field and kind
of making threats. Their players were kind of getting into
it with each other, and so they called the game
with about a minute and a half left in the
ball game. You don't want to see that. Nobody wants
to see that. Clean that up. Shouldn't happen. I get it.
Emotions are high. It was also a thirty nine to
sixteen game. Not quite sure what we could be so
(13:37):
mad about at that point. It's not like a call
here or there, a play here or there. Something probably
happened to sway that game. But yeah, clean that up.
But thanks to the text line for that and a
lot of the information we get. I don't always share
here on the show. I know I don't do a
good job of like going back through the text and
sharing them here on the show. I'm going to get
better at it, I promise. It's just a really busy
(13:57):
kind of week, kind of a few weeks for me.
But thanks for that text and again, if you've got
something you want to share, that number is two seven
oh five three four forty three eight. So yes, a
couple of non district games with our one A schools.
Everybody else starting district games, so the big ones this week.
They're all big, they're district games. I would look at
that Callaway game. I mean, listen, Callaway has been better
(14:19):
than expected. And I still hear people say, yeah, they're
playing bad teams. I can't say it again, folks, but
I will good teams beat bad teams bad. And if
these were closer games, I'd go, yeah, all right, well
they're getting wins, but they're you know, they're bad. They're
blowing these teams out. What else do you want there?
They're handling them with ease, which is what they should
(14:42):
do if they're good. So that tells me they're good.
I'm not saying they're great. I'm not saying they're gonna
win the district. I'm not saying they've got a shot
at Tillman. I'm not saying any of that. I'm just
saying for who they are and where this program has
been coach Lewis's first season at the Helm, they're good
mc Calloway County this season. Through four weeks of football.
(15:04):
They're throwing the football at two hundred and twenty two
yards a game, ten touchdowns, two picks that doesn't happen
by accident, running the football at two hundred and two
yards per game with eleven rushing touchdowns. They're good. They
take on Warren East this week, who's not good. Now.
One little caveat is Warren East has scored a lot
of points in the last few weeks. They beat Central
(15:26):
Harden forty to nothing. Central Harden is terrible this year.
They're all the love for coach Lance Gregory, former Graves
County coach, who's gone out there to coach them, but
they have been shut out in three of their four games.
They've only scored fourteen total points this year. They've given
up at least twenty or more points in every game.
They're not a good football team, but Warren East beat
(15:49):
them forty to nothing and then lost to Warren Central,
who's okay, not good, not bad, but lost fifty eight
to forty five. So they can put up some points.
They can score. They're also prone to give up points
and Callwai County this year is scoring. Their offense is
moving to the football. Even against Murray, they had success
(16:09):
getting the football down the field, they just couldn't quite
capitalize on a few drives. Their opponent this week is
averaging one hundred and ninety six yards in the year,
one hundred and twenty two yards in the ground, ten
touchdowns in the air, four on the ground. And here's
my point and why I kind of got this is
like circle this one Callawai was winless last year. They
(16:30):
had a long losing streak. They haven't had a lot
of success in their district anyway, And right out of
the gate Week one of the district for them, in
football Week five of the football season, they've got a
chance to go get their fourth win and be one
to zero in district play. It's a home game, two folks,
it's a home game. Things get harder with Logan County.
(16:52):
But this is a Callowai County team that could be
four and one and one to zero in the district
at the halfway point of the season. And if you
had that on your Bengo card or your predictor, good
for you, But you're lying to yourself. If you did,
you're lying. Go back to the start of the season.
Nobody had that coming. Nobody saw that. You might have
(17:13):
looked at their schedule and thought, man, they should beat
balor they should, but like I don't know, and here
they are three and one, a chance to go four
to one and be one and zero district play. So
that's a main event type game for me this week.
That's one I'll be keeping an eye on. The Other
one is Paduka Tilman the bounce back game. You know,
Tilman played Madisonville last week on a Thursday, so they
(17:35):
got an extra day with to prepare. I guess if
you will, probably had Friday off and now here they
play eight days later against a good Franklin Simpson team.
Now this game not at on the road as the
Madisonville game was, but Franklin Simpson is three and one
on the season. They lost to White's Creek, Tennessee forty
(17:58):
two to thirty three. They beat Warren Central Hood again
I said it is not bad, not great, kind of
in the middle. They beat them forty nine to fourteen.
They beat Lafayette thirty five to seven in Russellville forty
nine to seven. Now Russellville's terrible, Lafayete's okay. But this
is a very solid, very good Franklin Simpson team. They
(18:22):
don't throw the football, they want to keep it on
the ground. So this is another game of clashing styles.
Madisonville was that way. Madisonville won fifty eight yards or
I'm sorry. Fifty one yards passing per game, four touchdowns,
three picks, but they run the football at nearly three
hundred yards a game with nineteen rushing touchdowns. So something
(18:44):
else we got to consider as we go into week
our Friday night games. Both teams are three to one.
Both teams play a completely different style of offense Tillman does.
They don't have interest in really trying to run the football.
They do saw it about one hundre in thirty yards per game,
but their leading rusher is at fifty nine yards per game,
(19:06):
eight rushing touchdowns. They throw the football at three hundred
and forty four yards per game with eighteen passing touchdowns
and six interceptions. They want the football in the air,
they want it downfield. They want home runs their opponent
this week, like Madisonville, they're gonna run the football. They're
gonna run the football, and then when you think they're
gonna do something else, they're gonna run the football. It
(19:27):
worked for Madisonville. They controlled tempo, they controlled clock. It's
kind of frustrating when you're a team like Tilman that
likes to get up and down the field quickly and
you're used to doing so efficiently and then your opponent's
kind of taking the air out of the football. It's
frustrating to play that style. So we'll see. Is there
(19:47):
a hangover? Is there something about this style that completely
kills or at least stifens Tillman's sort of mojo and
momentum when they have the football. We'll see. But this
is a very this This is not a slam dunk
game right now. It's not Tilman's a favorite. It's at home.
It's always hard to go to Tilman and get a win.
(20:07):
But this game, in the Logan County game, Yeah, the
Logan County I lost my train of thought. These are
the two left on the schedule for them that you've
got to keep an eye on and right out of
the gate and district play, you got to keep an
eye on this one. So for me, those two games
for me are kind of the main events, kind of
(20:28):
the highlight games this week that have a lot more
intrigued for different reasons, for very different reasons. And then you,
I think you got to look at the Marshall County
Madisonville game. Madisonville is very good, maybe even better than
we expected. They've been a little overrated in the past
this year probably right on par They're four and zero,
Marshall County two and two. Marshall County thinks they should
(20:48):
be three and one. They probably should be. And this
is a big test for Marshall County because this is
one of the last you know, they've got two really
good opponents left and they play them two of the
next three weeks in Madisonville and owens Borough, both ranked
in their class, but you get them at home and
(21:08):
this is one of those I know there's no moral victories,
and I'm not advocating for that, but this is one
of those where Marshall County is expected to lose. This
team just beat Tillman, but this team could have a
bit of a hangover from that. They could come in
a little overconfident and overlook a traditional team that a
team that's traditionally bad and Marshall is better and Marshall
(21:32):
has dudes upfront. Marshall can do some things to try
to dictate their style of play, which would be for me,
run the football, control the clock and try to just
control possession as much as you can. And this is
not a team that's going to go over the top
on you. This is a team that's going to line
up and run the football. And I do think and
(21:55):
this will be the week we see that. This will
be the week that tells us for sure. And I
know Week five is you'd like to know before week five,
But I think Marshall struggles more with the skill guys
on the edge and guys that can get downfield and
get vertical. This might be a game where they can
do some things. Might now, this also could be a
game where Madison Field just runs up and down the
field and hits big home run runs. Right, they're not
(22:19):
eating up yards in time of possession. They're hitting big
runs and they pull away and get a big win.
But it's a big test for where your program is
right now under coach Bloodworth. You're competitive, You've been more competitive.
This is one of the best teams left on your schedule.
Where do you stack up? Same thing with Graves County.
(22:41):
They've got Owensboro and they've got maybe one of the
worst Owensboro teams in the last few years. And I say
that with this little caveat they're still ranked in the
top ten. They're still good. They're just not quite at
the level they were the last few years. Neither's Graves
right now, so that'll be one to keep an eye
as well. We'll talk about those games. I want a
(23:01):
break down Marshall, Madisonville more in a moment, we'll talk
Graves and Owensborough and more of that. Take a break,
we'll come back. This is Region one Region one Sports.
We know local because we are local Name Day Region
(23:23):
one Sports. Our final segment here on this Wednesday edition
of the show, we're talking Week five matchups and previews
and you know, sort of the highlight games. And like
I said earlier, I think it's it's Tilman and Franklin Simpson.
I think Tilman's the favorite. I think they should win.
They probably should even win convincingly. But it's a it's
a good opponent. It's another week where they have a
(23:43):
decent to good opponent and and we'll see how that
goes coming off the loss in Madisonville. And then Callaway
a chance to be four and one in week five
of the football season. And if you're Callaway, you've got
to get this win. And I don't mean this in
any disrespect, but if you don't get this win, Logan
County is better than you. Franklin Simpson right now is
(24:06):
seen as better than you probably is. Allen County Scottsville
is a game you can win, So that would be
win number five on the season. You're not gonna beat Tillman,
and then Marshall will kind of see how it goes
when we get there. If you're Callawa and you get
this win, you're at least on track. You're at least
within shot of a six win season, of a winning
(24:29):
regular season, which would be an insane turnaround from a
year ago. And again you're helped by the schedule, but
play the schedule in front of you, and they are
and they're winning. So this is a big week for
that and for district play, for Callaway, for Marshall County.
Like I said at the end of that last segment,
(24:51):
it's a test week. Where are you really with your program?
Where do things really stand with your trying to get
things back on track at Marshall County. Because listen, Maddison
Field's really good. They just beat Tillman. We get that.
We don't you know. I know it's a home game,
but you're not the favorite. Can you grind? Can you play?
(25:13):
Can you you know your strength? I think your strength
is on that line. I think your strength is pushing
guys around. So let's let's see where it is. Talking
about those teams. You know, Marshall County two and two
going into this football game, getting one hundred and thirty
three yards passing per game, one hundred and ninety seven
(25:34):
yards rushing per game, five passing touchdowns, twelve rushing touchdowns.
I'm just gonna lay it out. Where you run the football,
don't shy away from it, keep going to it. Now,
teams that like to run the football, they're kind of
like teams that like to press. Sometimes they don't like
to be pressed in basketball. Well, teams like to run
the football sometimes don't like when teams run the football
(25:54):
on them. Let's see if you can get that going.
If you're Marshall County, it's simple. You want more offensive
touches than you give your opponent. I know that sounds crazy.
Sometimes it doesn't work that way. Sometimes your opponent still
gets more touches and you still win the football game.
But what happens when you get more touches than your
opponent you take the randomness out. Here's what's not random.
Madisonville's going to move the football and they're going to score.
(26:17):
What is random is if you give them those extra
possessions and let's say they hit that big home run run,
Let's say they hit that game shifting play that otherwise
you felt like you were in the game. Take the
randomness out. If you control possession, I think you got
a chance, maybe not to even win the game, but
a chance to stay in it and stay competitive and
(26:38):
keep growing in the right direction. Graves County and Owensboro
on Friday again, this is the right time to catch Owensboro,
but for Graves County maybe not the right time for them.
Like it was a struggle the first few weeks they've played.
(27:00):
They've played Tillman, they've played, they have played some absolute
juggernaut opponents. Union County was not a letdown opponent. They're
still very good. Union County was in the state title
game a year ago in their class. They're good now.
They lost some dudes, but their program didn't just disappear
forget how to play football. That's a good win and
(27:21):
a low scoring win and a defensive win for Graves
County last Friday night. They're gonna need that defense to
step up and play and do that again this week. Now,
this Owensboro team. Again, they've played Saint X, they've played
Christian Academy that those are about as good as it
gets in the state as well. They just beat Owensboro
Catholic thirty four to twenty one. Catholics still good. Catholic
(27:44):
was unbeaten going into that game. They're still good. We're
not saying they're not good. We're saying that they're not
as good as they've been in the past, at least
by their standards. They're still really good. They're still expected
to not win the district. Finished second in the district.
(28:04):
It's a football team that has passed the football, not
as well as we've seen in the past. They've got
a sophomore quarterback one hundred and twelve yards per game,
four touchdowns, no picks. They only run the football at
ninety six yards a game with seven rushing touchdowns. But
again keep in mind the opponents. A thirty eight to
seven lost to Saint X, a thirty five nothing lost
(28:25):
to cow as good as it gets in the state period,
and a forty nothing went over Davis County and Davis
County is two and two on the year, not terrible.
In a forty nothing win over Davis County. They had
one hundred and thirty six yards passing on seven of
ten passing and went fourteen carries one hundred yards on
(28:46):
the ground, but forty nothing. I mean, they did what
they needed to do. In that game with Catholic. They
went thirteen of eighteen with one sixty seven in the
air one touchdown. How about this, Evan Hampton went twenty
one carries, two hundred and nine yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Now that's where I'm concerned for Graves. It's not what
(29:08):
they did the first three weeks. It's not what they
did even in a forty nothing went over Davis County.
It's what they did over a very good Catholic team.
Their offense looked like it was starting to click. The
passing game was good, the running game was terrific. And
that's where I turned my attention to Graves. Your offense
may just be what it is. Any shot to stay
in this game, any shot to even have a sniff
(29:30):
of a win on Friday Night, it's gonna be on
the defense. The defense is gonna have to step up
and play stellar and usually does. Usually it's pretty good.
But the defense had their best game of the week
last week. They're gonna have to propel that into another week.
For the Eagles, one in three on the season, they're
passing the football just sixty nine yards per game, eighty
(29:50):
seven yards rushing per game, one passing touchdowns, six rushing touchdowns. Now,
when I talked earlier about that newfound perspective, this is
where it starts to kick in for me. And yes,
I'm close to Graves, and yes I get the inside scoop,
and yes I get to talk to and get to
know these kids. So therefore I feel a little bit
more for them. But I see the work going into it,
(30:14):
I see the talent. The results just aren't clicking right now.
People have kind of been down on Jason Houston at quarterback.
I'm not. I'm not. He's a great athlete, he's a
great quarterback. It's just not there right now. The work
is there, the work ethic is there, the attitude is
(30:35):
in the right spot. The results just haven't happened yet.
I get that now, I get where that can happen
to be frustrating, and I'm not going to dog a
kid for that. The run game hasn't been there. Brady
Rizzel had a really good go ahead touchdown run last week.
But I think he's even better than his fifty one
yards per game right now. I think it's on the line.
(30:57):
You know, people point to the skill guys not putting
up numbers, but they haven't been given as much of
a chance. But I think those skill guys are, those
linemen are working hard and it's just not there right now.
But this is going to be a challenge, no doubt
about it. And you know, it most likely could look
like the first two weeks of the season for them,
(31:17):
or it could look like the Murray game and a
game where you're in it, you're fighting, you've got a shot.
Can you get over the hump this time? Something to
watch on Friday. McCracken County. They take on Union County
this week, a non district game, but again another quality opponent.
(31:38):
Mccracking coming off of their worst offensive output of the season,
really one of their worst offensive showings the last few years,
scoring just three points a field goal, that's it. In
their game with Mayfield, they didn't really move the football.
One hundred and seventy three yards of total offense, seventy
three in the air, one hundred on the ground. You
(31:58):
get Union County, who good. Their defense is good too.
Their offense can be a little challenging at times, but
their defense is good. This is an interesting matchup. This
is a sort of where are you really, McCraken. We're
gonna find out more on Friday night. Union County. You know,
I just saw them, but they they don't throw the
(32:19):
football much seventy two yards per game, but my goodness,
they run the football two hundred and eighteen per game,
eleven rushing touchdowns. McPeek and Fletcher are as good as
it gets as a duo. And again they want to
try to push you round up front, control the clock,
control the tempo. If you let them, you lose. The
other tough part for the Mustangs this game is on
(32:40):
the road, not an easy place to go get a win.
But we'll see, we'll see. That's it for me, though,
Out of time, out of topic, out of breath. Hope
you enjoy the rest of your Wednesday, enjoy the any
games you've got between now and Friday. We'll talk about
it on Friday. We'll talk more football on Friday. Until then,
this has been Region one Sports
