Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian york
on ninety nine to five the fad Welcome in.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
It is your Friday, September nineteenth edition of the Region
one Sports Report. I'm Brian Yorke and as always all
you're doing fantastic on this Friday. We have made it
to the end of another week. It's the weekend. It
is week five of the football season, and we will
get into all of that today on the show. You
can connect with the show via our social media. You
(00:35):
can search us out on x or Twitter or whatever
you want to call it at Region one Sports on
Facebook at Region one Sports Report, and you can utilize
the text line that number is two seven h five
three four forty three eight.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Well here it is week five of the football season.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
We are not quite because you got to finish tonight
to get there, but we are essentially at the midway
point of the football season. Most teams tonight playing this games.
A few aren't. We'll talk about that and distinguish those
that are and aren't, but it's essentially the midway point.
It's district play. This is where the season really gets underway.
(01:12):
It's where it really gets underway. We've had the warm up,
we've had the preseason, We've had the games that don't
really matter. Yes, they form who you are. Yes, they
kind of tell us for sure who you are. I
mean I said that a few weeks ago, But at
this point, this is who you are. Small adjustments, changing
some game plans, maybe that can tweak some things and
(01:35):
maybe reset your path a bit, but the results kind
of are what they are at this point and speak
to who you are now. With that said, when you
get to district play, it gives you a chance to
reset a little bit, take a step back, breathe a moment,
realize none of that mattered to this point. We've got
a chance to ride our own destiny still because right
(01:57):
now everybody's record is oh and oh, and everybody as
a shot to do something special, even at the midway
point of the regular season. That's the great thing about football.
That's the great thing about high school football in the
state of Kentucky. So we'll get into that, we'll talk
about that, we'll break down preview and pick the winners
of the games tonight here in this Week five action.
Before we get to that, before we move forward, let's
(02:19):
get to scores from around the region on your Thursday.
So here we go and volleyball on a Thursday. Not
every score was reported. What we do have is Ballard.
It was three nothing shutouts across the board. Ballard Memorial
over Murray, Hickman County over Trigg County, and Marshall County
over Callaway County again, all three sets to none. In
(02:40):
girls soccer, you had Marshall County over Clarksville tennessee to nil,
McCracken County over Paduca Tillman eight nil, and Murray over
Mayfield eleven nil.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
That's not very nice of them.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Boys soccer, you had Graves County Overlyon County eight nil,
Marshall County over Caldwell County nine to one, and Murray
shuts out Mayfield for nil. So really only one competitive
soccer game last night. That was the Marshall and Clarksville game.
In girls soccer, closest one best one of the night
apparently to nil. So yeah, not much to get into there.
(03:15):
All blowouts, all kind of ho hums. As you move
along towards the end of another week on Monday, when
we return on Monday, we will sort of reset. We
will talk about where things stand, talk about how things
have shaped up and kind of do what we do
from time to time our Region one reset, So we'll
do that on Monday, and we'll get a little more
(03:37):
soccer heavy, volleyball heavy on Monday when we go through that.
Because again, last night just didn't warrant itself to much conversation. Blowouts,
all chalk, all expected in so many ways. So those
are scores from your Thursday games on your Friday, Week
(03:57):
five of the football season. Not only were we getting
into but we've got some good games for tonight. Graves
County host Owensborough. It's always been good when when Owensboro
comes to Graves. Those are always the close ones. We'll
talk about that a little bit. Murray goes to Russellville.
Calloway County host Warren East. Another winnable game for Calloway County.
Paduka Tillman versus Franklin Simpson. Now Franklin Simpson's good. This
(04:20):
is a game that could be competitive, but it's at
Tillman coming off the loss. Yeah, of course we got
a lot to get into there. McCracken County goes to
Union County. Not a district game for them, but another
really good opponent Marshall County host Madisonville, Ballard goes to Charleston, Missouri.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
No, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Ballard hosts Charleston, Missouri, and Fulton County goes to Greenfield, Tennessee.
So as always, I mean, we'll be keeping an eye
on all these games tonight, but the games that have
got my attention the most are to start the district
GA Graves and Owensboro. Obviously I'll be there. Graves is
feeling a lot better after finally getting in the win
column against a good Union County team last week week.
(05:00):
Owensboro's not as good this season. Listen, there's still they
can still hit a home run. They've got a good
running back, they've got young quarterbacks, they don't have much
on the line. You know, this is a game Graves
feels good about. We'll talk about that. Callaway and Warren
East Calloway has a chance to get their fourth win
in the first five weeks of the football season. Can
(05:22):
you even get your head around that, because that's that's incredible.
Paduka Tillman, Franklin Simpson, Like I said, Tilman coming off
the hangover, Franklin Simpson is good. If this game was
at Franklin Simpson. It might be a push, it might be.
I don't think they're still the favorite, but this one
of those I wouldn't be surprised if they win. Now
the game is at Tilman. That changes things. McCracken goes
(05:44):
to Union County. Again, If this game's at McCracken, you
feel a lot better about McCracken. But Union County is
a good football team and McCracken's got to go there,
and that is not an.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Easy road trip.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
It's like it's like an hour and fifteen minutes, but
it feels like it takes five hours hours to get there.
Marshall County host Madisonville. Madisonville coming off with the Tillman win,
do they have a hangover going on the road to
Marshall and playing an opponent that Let's be honest, they
may be overlooking. So those games at the top, those
games intrigued me the most. And of course you got Murriet, Russellville,
(06:20):
You've got Ballard Charleston, you got Fulton and Greenfield. But
those other games intrigued me the most for very different reasons.
I can't get over Callaway with a chance to get
a fourth win in five weeks. I mean, Callaway is
setting here in week five and they may end up
with one of the best records in the region after tonight.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
So before we take a break, let's start with that one.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
I mean, you've got Callaway County again three and one
to start the season wins over Webster County, Fulton County
Ballad Memorial.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
I know, I hear you people all the time. Well
they should beat those teams.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yes, Traditionally a four A school like Callaway or any
school for a should beat Fulton County and Ballad Memorial.
They should. That hadn't been the case the last few years.
They got it done. This year, they got it done
blowout style. Now they get Warren East. Warren East a
district opponent, so not only could they be four and
one in week five of the football season, they could
be one to zero in district play. Warren East a
(07:13):
one win team on the season. Now, their first two
games of the year, they played Floyd Central out of Indiana.
I know nothing about them. Apparently they're good and it
was a forty seven to seven loss. Second game of
the year, they played Greenwood. Greenwood is good, not great,
twenty one to six loss. Then they played Central hardin
who is terrible, and they beat them forty to nothing.
(07:34):
And then they played Warren Central, who's okay, they're good,
but they gave up fifty eight points in that game.
They scored forty five. I mean, you gotta win the game.
If you score forty five points, that's ridiculous. Score forty
five points and lose. And they did fifty eight to
forty five. That's the game for me that makes me
feel good about Callaway tonight. It's at Callaway. You're playing
(07:56):
an opponent that clearly is prone to giving up points
if they can score. Now, if I'm Calloway, I'm a
little worried about that. This might be an up and
down game. This might be a little bit back and forth.
But it's at your place. It's at your place, and
they've got to drive a little bit to get to you,
(08:17):
and they give up points.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Feel confident in that. On the season so far, they
throw the football.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Talking about Calloway's opponent, Warren East, they throw the football
at one hundred and ninety six yards per game, ten touchdowns,
five picks. They run the football at one twenty two
a game with four rushing touchdowns. Those are not bad stats,
not at all Calloway County. On the flip side, they
are throwing the football at two hundred and twenty two
yards per game, rushing the football at two hundred and
(08:45):
two yards per game, eleven touchdowns, two interceptions, eleven touchdowns
on the ground. Now, if I'm Calloway, you probably can
go over the top on them tonight. Probably feel good
about that. Don't forget you got a running back that
set a score record not that long ago. Don't forget that.
Don't just run away from that. Let him run wild
(09:06):
tonight because he probably probably can. But I do like
Callaway in this one. I do you know, Listen, this
is one of those things where if Foreign East were
to get a win, would it be an upset? I
don't know, because again, strength of schedules are a little different.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
I don't know. I haven't seen warreneas play. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
All I see is the stats and the opponents. But
I feel good about Callawai Calley should fel good about Calloway.
It's at your place, You're not going there, and it's
yet another winnable football game.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
And here's the deal.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
You better take advantage because the next two weeks are
the tougher of the district opponents. You got Logan County,
who right now is unbeaten. You got Franklin Simpson, who
right now is three and one. Now they get Tilman tonight,
but they're three and one, and that's before you get
a bad Allen County scots Full team. So you get
that win tonight because the next two weeks could put
you one and two in district play.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
You don't you can't be.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Zero to three, can't be, because then your only district
win would be potentially against Allen County Scottsville. Get this
win tonight, then you got a chance at Allen County
in a couple of weeks. That puts you two and
two going into the Tilman game. Listen, Tillman would be
the heavy favorite in October, but what a season you
will have had to that point. So I'm on the
(10:22):
callaway train. Tonight, Calloway's gonna win. All right, let's take
a break, we'll come back. We got a lot more
to get into a lot more cracking at Union County.
I don't know how I feel about this one.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Tilman and Franklin Simpson again, Franklin Simpson's good. But this
this game at Tilman, coming off the loss, look out
and then I even forgot to mention Mayfield. Mayfield is
playing Critney County. We'll talk about that and more when
we come back. It's Region one, Region one sport.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Nope, it's not Ashton Coucher. It's Brian York, equally handsome,
equally smart on ninety nine to five the Fan Regional Sports.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
As we move along here in your Friday edition of
the show, so we talk Callowei County. I'm taking the
Lakers to win tonight, although again you never know, you
never know what these teams like Warren East and some
of their opponents, and just how good or bad they
maybe really are. But I like Callaway, I like what
they've done so far. Let's go Lakers, go get the
win tonight. As we move on, let's talk Graves County
and Owensboro. The Eagles one and three on the season,
(11:38):
take on a two and two Owensboro team, And to
be honest, this is done as good of an Owensboro
team as they've had in the past. The little caveat
on that is Owensboro is always still really good. Their
standards are still really high, but they are two and
two on the season. Traditionally, Owensboro would be more competitive
(11:58):
with the Saint X's and the Christian Academy Louisvilles of
the world. This year they were not. That's that's kind
of what you're looking at. Saanext beat them thirty eight
to seven. Cal beat them thirty five nothing. Now they
did turn around and beat a bad Davis County team
forty to nothing. And then they beat Owensboro Catholic thirty
four to twenty one. Now Catholic's good. Catholic is got
(12:21):
again to a state title aspirations. That was a surprising game,
but it's a game that I think Catholic feels like
they made a lot of mistakes. It's a game that
they kind of gave away. Nonetheless, Owensboro still won, still
put up thirty four points. So even though not as
good of an Owensboro team as they've seen in the past,
still a very good football team coming to Graves County tonight. Now, Traditionally,
(12:45):
and why I said this one could be should be
good when they come to Graves County, that tends to
be a good football game, tends to be a very
close football game. The last time they came to Graves,
it was twenty eight to twenty one Owensboro, but it
was a game that haunts the Eagles. They had a
chance to win and arguably should have won the game.
(13:06):
You go back previously it was thirty five to twenty eight.
So a thirty five to twenty eight game, a twenty
eight to twenty one game like this has been games
in the series that they've had opportunities to win Graves
and probably feel like they should have won. And the
close games in the series tend to always be at Graves,
which is where it is tonight. So again, Owensboro two
(13:28):
and two on the season. Looking at their stats, they
typically traditionally have a couple of great athletes as receivers
and their pass game is really tough, and they usually
have a dual threat quarterback, and well they don't really
have that this year.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
They're kind of run heavy. They've got a really good
running back.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
They do try to get out on the edge, they
do try to bounce things around the tackles, but it's
really starts with the run game. Now they're only running
the football at ninety six yards per game, but Evan Hampton,
their top runner, a big bruiser, not a big speed guy,
does have speed, but he's a big bruiser. Eighty two
yards per game, three rushing touchdowns doing most of his damage.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
The last few weeks.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
They throw the football at one hundred and twelve yards
per game with four touchdowns and no interceptions. But if
you go back and look at the Catholic game, they
had two hundred and nine yards rushing out of Hampton.
So he's only averaging eighty one a game, but he
got two hundred and nine against a good Owensboro Catholic team.
That's where Graves County's concerned tonight. You know, they threw
(14:26):
the football pretty well in that game, but it was
all in that run game. All in what Evan Hampton
did twenty one carries, two nine, three touchdowns. That's where
Graves is concerned tonight. They feel like if they can
stop the run, they can at least limit touches on
offense for Owensboro, that they're going to have a chance
to win this game. Now, Graves County offense starting to click,
(14:48):
starting to get there, starting to figure some things out,
but it has not been great and that's just me
being honest, it's not been great just yet. The Eagle
are throwing the football at just sixty seven yards per game,
one touchdown, two picks. They're running the football just eighty
seven yards per game with six rushing touchdowns. But what
(15:08):
they started to figure out last week is who they
need to be on offense. They're not gonna line up
and just blow you away. They're not gonna line up
and go over the top. They don't have, you know,
the opportunity to just sprint guys downfield and eat up
big chunks of yards. They don't really have the ability
to just you know, keep it on the ground and
pick up seven eight yards per carry. This is a
(15:30):
team that's got to get a little bit disciplined on
offense and a little bit creative and change their offensive approach.
And they did last week and things started to click.
They started to move the football, they started to have success,
They started to find confidence in what they were doing.
Throw it when they need to, take the underneath routes,
take the quick hits, and then on the ground. You
(15:52):
don't need seven yards to carry, but three or four
are nice. Figure out a way to get that done.
Figure out a way to make possession, to win the
time of possession, and that gives you a chance to
win the football game. And if they can do those things,
they can get to win tonight. Now I'm picking Graves
because I think they are poised for an upset. I
think they are poised to shock some people. I think
(16:14):
they're better than they've been able to show. You go
back to the Murray game. That's a game that at
one point could have been fourteen twelve. Graves matthis doesn't
get hurt, Graves grabs momentum. Who knows what could have happened.
Now it doesn't go that way. They lose thirty two
to fourteen. But until that point, until midway through the
third quarter, they had held one of the best offenses
(16:34):
in the state, regardless of class, to just twelve points
and ended up holding them to I think still a
season low thirty two points.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
It is.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Last week against Union County. Union County was coming off
of a forty to thirteen win over Critney County and
a forty six to twenty two win over Cadwell County.
Union County is and we'll talk more about them when
we talk about cracking here in just a mon that'll
be our transition. But Union County is still good. They
didn't forget how to play football. They made a run
to the state title game a year ago. It's a
(17:09):
good three a football team, very good three a football team,
and Graves County beat them nineteen fifteen. Found away. Their
defense played well and their offense found away.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
That's my point.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
The defense can play good tonight, and that's It's a
much tougher task than playing Union County. Don't get me wrong,
But if the defense can play good tonight and the
offense can continue to find a way, which is their hashtag,
by the way, which is their slogan, They're gonna give
themselves a shot, a shot to win. And again it's
at Graves. Always more confidence when it's at Graves. Owensborough's
got to come here. Owensboro plays a rival Apollo next week.
(17:44):
They just came off a game against Catholic. Could be
a bit of a hangover, could be looking ahead to
playing another arrival next week, So this could be a
trap game for owens Borough. They like to play on turf,
they play on turfall, but like maybe this game, so
who knows. I'm just saying all the conditions favorite Graves
and for Graves, you better take advantage of this, You
(18:06):
better take advantage of it. But I'm picking the Eagles
over Owensboro. All right, I just mentioned Union Counties. Let's
stay there. Union County host McCracken County tonight again. Union
County is a good football team, two and two on
the year, lost to Madisonville forty nine thirteen, like I said,
beat Criton and Cadwell, and then lost to Graves County
last week. The Braves run heavy, they run the football,
(18:31):
They run the football, and then they run the football.
They throw the football at seventy two yards per game,
three touchdowns, six interceptions, but they run the football at
two hundred and eighteen yards per game with eleven rushing
touchdowns and number zero.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
McPeak.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
This kid is for real, averaging one hundred and nine
yards per game five rushing touchdowns. I don't know why
they don't give in the football in every possession. Listen,
Fletcher's good. Mcpeak's the dude. He's tough to stop, very
tough to stop. And it feels like when they need
a big play on offense, he usually gets it. And listen,
(19:07):
here's the other thing. Their defense is not bad. Either.
Their defense is not bad either. They have seven interceptions
so far on the season and McPeak has four of them.
So McCracken, who likes to throw the football, This is
a defense that likes to defend throwing the football. They
like to they're good in the past defense now McCracken
for what it's worth. Coming off of their worst loss
(19:28):
of the season, thirty nine three to Mayfield, scoring just
one field goal early in that game, the offense never
really looked like it had much going on the season.
They are throwing the football as a team at one
sixty i'm sorry, one seventy six per game, eight touchdowns,
six picks. They are pick prone.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
This is my point.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Union County likes to pick you off. McCracken's been a
little little interception prone. They do run the football at
one hundred and five yards per game with seven rushing
touchdowns this game. The conditions favor Union County. I think
a matchup favors Union County. It's not the type of
team you're used to seeing.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Right.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Mayfield doesn't play the same style Union County does. Paduka
Tilma a completely different style than Union County. Union County
is gonna line up they're gonna show you one look.
If it works, they'll stay with it. If not, they'll
change it.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
It's very simple, but it's very effective. And then on defense,
they want to take away the pass game. Mccracky County
likes to pass. It's at Union County. These conditions favor
Union County. Now with that said, I think this is
a week to regroup for mer Kraken County, not a
district game. Next week is not a district game. They've
still got two weeks of time to kind of figure
(20:41):
some things out without it costing them any anything in
the playoffs or having any kind of playoff implications. But
this is still a very good team at their place.
I'm gonna pick the Mustangs. I'm gonna be a homer.
I'm the Region one guy. They're a Region one team,
the man Union County. This one's gonna be tough tonight,
(21:01):
must Thangs win though. Moving on, how about Mayfield. Let's
talk Mayfield real quick. We'll get into some of the
other ones. Mayfield is at Critney County. Right at Critney No, no, no, sorry,
it's home. It's a home game.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
I got it.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
It's a home game. Cretney County in Cretey County. Look
two and two on the year. They beat a bad
Webster County team. They beat Union City, Tennessee, who's not
great either. Lost to Union County forty to thirteen, lost
to Marshall County forty two to twenty nine. I think
that tells you what you need to know. Mayfield three
and one. Mayfield again, this is at home. Crittain has
(21:36):
been at times arrival of Mayfield. In fact, thanks to
the text line and you can Texas two seven h
five three four forty three oh eight thanks to the
text line. Pretty interesting stat and it actually was. I'm
a sucker for interesting stats. The past two years, Critney
County has kicked off to start the game. So the
last two meetings, Critney County has kicked off to Mayfield
(21:59):
to start the game and both times have recovered an
on sidekick. You think Mayfield will be ready for that tonight.
You think maybe they'll be like if if Critney County
is kicking off, you think maybe they're gonna be like, hey, guys,
it's like we gotta get the on side kick recovery here.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Just saying taking a look at Mayfield stats.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Two hundred and eighteen yards passing per game, seven touchdowns,
one pick, running the football at one fifty seven per
game with twelve rushing touchdowns. Looking at Critney County so
far this season, it's really comes down to the quarterback play.
Quinn Summers throwing the football. This is Quinn Summers. Now,
he's only played in two games. I don't know if
he's gonna be available tonight, don't I don't know anything
(22:41):
about Kritney County in the two games he's played a
difference maker two hundred and forty nine yards, six touchdowns,
two picks. Without him, they have trouble getting the football
down the field. They run the football at eighty eight
yards per game, five rushing touchdowns. Mayfield wins, Mayfield wins.
Big another big week for Cardinal football. All right, let's
(23:01):
take a break, gotta take one. We'll come back plenty more.
Tilman might have a good game tonight with Franklin Simpson
Marshall hosting Madisonville. Madisonville heavy favorite, but could be in
a hangover week. And then we'll talk Balor, Charleston, Fulton
and Greenfield and much more when we return. This is
Region one Sports.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Your schools, Your report, the Region one Sports Report, Region
on Sports.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Our final segment here on your Friday edition of the show,
We've taught Graves and Owensboro go Eagles callaway over Warren East.
McCracken County is gonna go to Union County and get
a road wind tonight. Now let's move on. We've got
plenty more to get into. Oh and Mayfield is gonna
easily take care of Crickney County at home tonight. So
with that said, let's turn our attention now to put
(23:56):
Uka Tilman and Franklin Simpson. Tilman is obviously good. Franklin Simpson, though,
this year, is pretty decent, pretty good football team. The
Wildcats are three and one on the season. They lost
to White Creek or White's Creek, Tennessee forty two to
thirty three. They beat Warren Central, who's not bad, forty
nine to fourteen, Lafayette thirty five to seven in Russellville
(24:17):
forty nine seven. Now, Russellville is not good. Lafayette is okay.
They're two and two on the year and Warren Central
two and two on the season. So point being, this
is a team that is feeling good, playing good. They're
not a bad football team. In fact, this game is
the first time these two teams have played each other
since two thousand and four. Back in twenty oh four,
(24:41):
Paduka Tilman won twenty five to twenty one. Now a
lot changes in twenty one years, but my point being,
Franklin Simpson is not a bad football team, but Paduka
Tilman is better.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
I'll explain.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Franklin Simpson on the season throwing the football just fifty
two yards per game, four touchdowns, three interceptions. So what
does that mean Another team Tillman plays that likes to
run the football. Now, that was trouble against Madisonville a
week ago. Franklin Simpson is averaging nearly three hundred yards
of offense on the ground to ninety seven to be exact,
(25:14):
with nineteen rushing touchdowns. Blake McPherson the name to know tonight.
He has one hundred and eleven yards per game with
nine touchdowns. But then you've got Hampton at ninety four
yards per game with five touchdowns. So they got two
guys to get it done. They like to run the football.
If they can come in to Tilman and control time
of possession, they're going to have a shot to win
(25:34):
this game. Tilman again very contrasting different styles. They don't
want to run the football, they don't want time of possession.
They want touchdowns. They want them on every play. Paduka
Tilman so far this season, coming off their loan loss
to Madisonville, three hundred and forty three yards passing per game,
eighteen touchdowns, six picks, running the football at one hundred
(25:56):
and thirty yards per game with eight rushing touchdowns. Like
I said, I mean, they're top runners at fifty nine
yards per game. That's not even an interest to them.
Get the ball in the air, get the ball downfield,
score quick, make the other opponent eight clock, get a
lead on them, and their style does not fit that.
If Tilman comes out tonight, gets even a seven to
(26:17):
nothing lead, that's gonna be tough for Franklin Simpson. They
don't they can't play from behind. If Franklin Simpson gets
the football and they score first, they've got a shot.
If they fall behind first or early, it's over. Madison Ville.
North Hopkins never trailed against Tilman. They got the lead early,
they maintained time of possession, the maintain field position. They
won the football game. Tillman played into that. Tillman made
(26:41):
mistakes that helped play into that. They eliminate those mistakes,
they come out, strike early, strike off, and they win
this game big. But it still could be a football game,
still could be a good win. That's my point with
Tilman to night. But Timan's gonna win. Timan's gonna win
bounce back game, I'm sure. Like again, it's kind of
one of those you feel but I don't care who
you're playing, You feel bad for the next opponent after
(27:02):
a team has lost their first game in forever. Tilman
wins Tonight, all right. Moving on, let's suck Murray at
Russellville real quick. The Tigers will look to remain unbeaten
and are in a pretty good spot to do that.
Taking on Russellville, who is winless so far this season.
Not a good football team, just not one a football
(27:24):
They're just not good. One hundred and forty nine yards
passing per game, three touchdowns, five picks. They only run
the football. Are you ready for this? Negative four yards
per game? I don't even know how that's possible. Negative
four yards per game, two rushing touchdowns. Their leading rusher
on the season has nineteen carries for thirty two yards.
That's eleven yards per game with one touchdown. Now, the
(27:46):
negative yards per game comes from the fact that their
quarterback apparently gets sacked often twenty eight official rush attempts
for negative eighty four yards. Yeah, that'll hurt the average.
That'll do it. So it feels like you can get
pressure on the quarterback. Murray will I mean, listen, Murray's
gonna win big. Let's ahead and give you Murray's numbers though,
(28:08):
two hundred and seventy one yards passing per game, sixteen touchdowns,
still just one interception so far for wide Robbins and
then one hundred and eighty eight running per game, noine
rushing touchdowns. Like I said, this is just a mismatch
of mismatches. Yeah, Murray's got to go on the road.
Maybe a little bit of overlooking your opponent, but you
can overlook them and still win big. Murray wins big tonight. Okay,
(28:29):
Marshall County hosting Madisonville North hompiins. Now, this one's got
me a little intrigue, mostly because it's in the district
of the team I cover. But Marshall County two and
two on the year, I go back to this, they
feel like they should be three and one probably should be.
They'd love to have the Cardwell County game back.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
You can't. Got to move forward.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Two and two is they take on Madisonville, who's coming
off the Tilman win. This has all the makings of
a trap game. Madisonville got the big win over Tillman.
There phil they're Rodenha Madisonville at host Graves County next week.
That's an opponent they hate more and just about anybody
else in their district. They go on the road to
Marshall County, a team that they traditionally feel like they
(29:07):
can dispatch with little effort and traditionally have. This was
a fifty two to fourteen game a year ago, This
was a seventy to thirty game two years ago. In fact,
there hasn't been a close game in this series pretty
much ever. I mean, you got to go back to
two thousand and one, Marshall County got a forty three
nothing win. Since then, Madisonville flipped the script and flipped
(29:30):
it big. They've played annually since twenty seventeen, Madisonville winning
forty two, twenty nine, forty five, fourteen, forty.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
You get my drift. Madisonville's a trap game.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Right, coming off a big win at home, you gotta
go on the road an opponent you feel like you
should and have beat handily consistently in the past, the
Saint your Dad's Marshall County team. This hasn't improved Marshall
County team. This is a team that fights and plays hard.
This is a team that doesn't break. They bend, don't
always break. They've already had games this year they would
(30:04):
have lost a year ago the Tree County game. They
would have never come back and won that game. A
year ago, they probably lose that game twenty eight to seven.
Last season, things.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
Don't go their way.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
They get down early, they fold, don't have that fight. Well,
maybe would have had more fight last year. Two years ago,
they for sure lose that game twenty eight to seven.
Last year, probably would have made it competitive, still lost
this year. They made it competitive in one. That's my point.
They're slowly climbing that hill. They're slowly coming around and
turning that program around. Is it enough to get a
(30:38):
win tonight?
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Now?
Speaker 2 (30:38):
This would be a massive upset. This would be a
massive upset, but it, like I said, trap game, Madisonville
at Marshall on the road between playing beating Tillman and
hosting Graves County next week. Madisonville doesn't always like to
play on the road. They're not always great on the road.
Let's look at the numbers though, four and oh Madisonville.
(31:01):
They come in throwing the football at sixty five yards
per game, two touchdowns, five picks. They run the football
two to seventy five per game. That's one seventy four.
Hot Tower who will finally be out of eligibility after
this season. I think eleven rushing touchdowns on the year
for him, seventeen on the ground for the team. Marshall
(31:22):
County's numbers throwing the football at one thirty two per game,
five touchdowns, two picks, running the football at one ninety
seven per game, twelve touchdowns. I get hand the football off,
hand it off. I think you've got Your strength is
the lineman and in the run game. Use the pass
game to complement. Use the pass game when you feel
like you've got a mismatch. Use the pass game when
(31:43):
you feel like you can get something downfield. Try to
run the football to not try to establish control of
the clock. Try to limit Madisonville's possessions. I know Madisonville
is run heavy, but their home run heavy hog Tower
is a home run hitter kind of running back. If
you can find a way to keep that from happening,
you got a shot to be in this game and
do something at the end.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Now, I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Pick Madisonville because they're really good, but this is one
that I'll be keeping a close one. And just because
I'm picking Madisonville, make no mistake about it, I'm rooting
for Marshall County. Go get this win, Marshall County, go
pull the upset. This is an opportunity trap game for them,
home game for you, a chance to flex and show
(32:27):
you are an improved football team. And you are, They're
gonna overlook you. So go throw that big right hook
and see what happens tonight. And last, but not least,
two more to talk about. We've got Ballard is hosting Charleston, Missouri.
Fulton County goes to Greenfield. Where to start? Let's start
with Ballard. I know nothing about Charleston Missouri. I'll just
say it there.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
It is.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Don't know a thing about their football team, And to
be honest with you, don't have enough time to go
look into it. What I know is Ballard has had
struggles this season. They have a close loss to start
the year, thirty two to twenty eight to Todd County Central.
They were score held scoreless in the next two games,
losing forty to nothing, forty two to nothing, and then
(33:08):
Calloway County beating them handily last week forty five to six.
Ballard has had trouble moving the football. It's at home,
but I don't know. Sixty two yards passing per game
for Ballard, three touchdowns, no picks, that's good. Forty six
yards rushing per game, two rushing touchdowns. Again, don't know
a thing about Charleston, Missouri football. So with that, I'll
(33:30):
say this, I'll just pick Ballard for why not go
get a win?
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Ballard? Why not?
Speaker 2 (33:34):
It's at home, go get a win. We'll see though,
We'll see again, know nothing about Charleston. And then last,
but not least, Fulton County. Fulton County is playing another
Tennessee team.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
That's that's what they do.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
And why not Greenfield, Tennessee. I don't think they played
last season. Let me look, I'm going back through the
Tom machine. They did not, And again I don't know
anything about Greenfield Tennessee and Fulton County. Their Their problem
is not necessarily offensively. They do a decent job of
moving the football and finding the end zone at times. Man,
they give up a lot of points. They gave up
(34:07):
forty two in week one, thirty three, the next week
forty eight and thirty nine.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
They just give up a lot of points. And that's
what worries me tonight.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
They do move the football one hundred and sixty seven
yards passing per game, six touchdowns, four picks. They run
the football one thirty four a game with four rushing touchdowns.
I like their offense. I don't know anything about Greenfield, Tennessee.
I don't, but it's at Greenfield, man. I I'm going
pick Fuld County the same reason I picked Ballard. I
don't know nothing about your opponent, and I just want
(34:37):
to root for you and get a win. And since
we're not doing official picks on high school football, pick them,
which is still irritating and still has me very mad.
Don't get me wrong. Then I don't have to, you know,
be held accountable online to it. So go ahead, go
ahead and pick Fulton tonight. All right, So there you
have it. There was let's go back over this real quick.
Mayfield Big over Critney County. I'm gonna pick Graves over
(34:58):
Owensboro because why not. Murray goes to Russellville. They're gonna
win big easily. Calloway County hosting Warren East, Go go Callaway.
I think they get this win.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Tonight.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Tilman versus Franklin Simpson, this will be Tilman. McCracken goes
to Union County. I'm gonna pick McCracken, but this one's
gonna be tough for him. Marshall hosts Madisonville. I'm picking Madisonville,
but I'm rooting for the Marshalls. And then I'm gonna
pick Ballad in Fulton County because I don't know much
about their opponents. That simple, and I'm I'm willing to
admit it.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
So there you go.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
All right, Last, but not least, before I close the
show today, just want to ask for this. If you're
a praying person or whatever it may be, if you
don't mind lifting up a prayer today for me. We
lost my grandmother on Monday. My last living grandparent passed
away on Monday. The funeral service is middle of the
day today and I'm giving the eulogy. I'm the efficient
(35:48):
if you will, so, just if you don't mind about
noon today, just lift up a little prayer just that
I get through it. I just get through it.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
I don't even I mean, I don't know. I just
want to get through it. That'd be appreciative.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
Again, it's tough when you lose a grandparent, but it's
a blessing to have had forty one years on this
earth with at least one grandparent still around. But just
being thoughts in prayers, if you don't mind today about
that time, I would be greatly appreciative of that. All right,
that's it for today. Enjoy the football games tonight, enjoy
your weekend. Be safe, have fun, don't be silly, have fun,
(36:24):
but be safe, and we'll meet on Monday and talk
about it then.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Until then, this has been reaching one sports
