Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five the Fan and Away we
go on Wednesday. It is your Wednesday, September. What is it,
twenty fourth edition of the Region one Sports Report. I'm
Brian yorke in. As always, you can get in touch
with me and us here at the show via any
of our social media pages. We're on Facebook, We're on
(00:27):
x or Twitter. We're on Instagram still, which is great.
I don't do anything there, but we're on it. And
our text line two seven oh five, three four forty
three oh eight. It's Wednesday. It's halfway through the work week.
It's been raining, which is welcome, very very welcome. For that.
We still have got sports to talk about. We've got
(00:48):
Week six of the football season, Holy goo, Week six
of the football season a preview and talk about today
as well. And at some point I'll wake up, I promise.
I actually got a pretty decent amount of sleep for
me last night. I think I got a solid five hours.
I mean normally I'm averaging four, so you know, you
(01:08):
get that fifth hour, it can change your day. But
I don't know. I had trouble getting up this morning.
I'm drinking a Monster Energy, which, by the way, I
know I've sit on here lots of times, several times,
and if you're a regular listener, I know you've heard
this before. I just have got to where I can't
make a good cup of coffee on my own. I
just can't. I love buying coffee out. Obviously, I'll even
(01:29):
go get gas station coffee and do my creamer and
sugar and make it taste well. I just can't do
it at home for some reason anyway, So occasionally I
drink it. I drink Kickstarts. That's that's sort of my
go to if I don't have coffee, and occasionally I'll
drink a Monster energy drink. I try not to, man,
I try to really limit my consumption of the legit
(01:51):
energy drinks like a Monster. Now. My preference is the
white Monster, the zero sugar one. I like it, but
I try to limit that. So I buy a four pack.
I buy them in that little four pack from Walmart
and then put them in my refrigerator and it takes
about I don't know, six weeks, seven weeks to drink
four of them, which I think is good still, probably
(02:13):
more than I want to. I just I don't know.
They just worry me a little bit. Also, I get
a little hipper when I'm on them, you know, there's that,
But I don't know. I've always felt good about drinking
an unlimited amount of coffee. I'm fine with drinking kickstarts
because they're not quite like an energy drink. They're more
of a coffee alternative. But something about the energy drinks
kind of worry me, kind of scare me a little bit.
(02:35):
But I am about halfway through it this morning, so
I do feel I do feel it working, I do
feel it doing. It's doing what it's supposed to do.
So here's to hoping by the end of the show
I'm not speaking at one hundred miles an hour and
gone completely off the rails, because that is absolutely a
possibility today before I do, before I even worry about
that or have to worry about that, let's go over
(02:56):
scores from around the region from your Monday and Tuesday,
two days scores to get through. So as we begin,
let's start with volleyball. Went a lot more volleyball because
of the rain the last few days, so we'll go
with volleyball on Monday. Lots of games you had Ballard
Memorial over Carlisle County three to one, Callai County over
Hickman County three to two, Fulton County over South Fulton
(03:18):
Tennessee three nothing, Mayfield over Cca three nothing, Paduca Tillman
over Hopkins County Central three to two, and Trick County
over Fulton City three zero. That's volleyball on Monday, so
your winners were Ballard, Callaway, Fulton County, Mayfield, Paduca, Tillman,
and trig County. On Tuesday, Christian Fellowship beat Callai County
(03:40):
three sets to two. That had to be an incredibly
fun volleyball game. Graves County over Murray three nothing, Hickman
County over Fulton City three nothing, and Marshall County over
Mayfield in a close one three two. So your winners
on Tuesday CFS Graves County, Hickman County and Marshall County.
That's volleyball. Soccer a little bit lighter this week, but
(04:02):
on soccer. On Monday, girls soccer, Graves County got their
first win of the season. They beat Lyon County six
to one. So the first in so far only win
for my Leady Eagles, a six to one win over
Lying County. That program not long ago was playing for
regional titles, so it's there. It's just a little bit
of a lull right now. So Graves County winners on Monday.
(04:24):
Girls soccer On Tuesday, Caldwell County over Puduka Tillman three
to two, Marshall County shut out Mayfield eight to nil,
and Murray over Graves County eight nil. Boys soccer, just
a few games to talk about. On Monday, you had
South warnum Acracking County finish in a tie zero zero.
Because we all love ties, and that's why most of
us really love soccer. I'm being sarcastic. I do like soccer.
(04:47):
I just ties. Come on, we can determine a winner.
Like it. It doesn't have to be a tie. We
don't have to just shake hands and walk away and
going well we're both good. No, we need a winner.
It's not sport of us to end in a tie.
It's maybe being a good sport. But I don't like it.
I don't like it. But they did it. South warnum
acrack and Neil nil. On Tuesday boys soccer, Marshall County
(05:11):
beat Mayfield three to one and Paduka Tilman Overkudawal County
for one. Those are your soccer scores, those are your
volleyball scores. Those are your high school sports scores from
around the region on a Monday and Tuesday. Okay, So
it's been kind of tradition on the show. We go
football heavy, as most people do this time of the year,
but it's been a tradition that I do take the
(05:32):
time in the first segment to devote that time to
talk about the sports that we just gave scores to.
So we usually go a little bit soccer heavy, and
today we are, but we're not going to give you
my opinion necessarily of who I think the best teams
are in the region, which, by the way, ruffled some
feathers on Monday. I've been saying the same thing for
six weeks, but apparently Monday saying it again on Monday
(05:54):
was where some feathers got ruffled. And I'll get into
that in a moment. But instead of spending this time going, hey, look,
based on what I'm seeing out there, these are the
teams that are that are the best teams of the region.
These are the teams that are the favorite, and these
are the teams that everybody's chasing. We have the RPI,
so let's look at the RPI. Let's see what the
RPI says, and I'll explain where some feathers got a
(06:15):
little ruffled. So the RPI the standings in the region.
Let's look at boys soccer first. Now the thing is,
even though we have the RPI, it's not complete. So
it has McCracken County listed at number one because for
some reason their stuff is complete on KHSAA, so they're
at number one at ten three and three. However, the
best team in the region is Murray High at fourteen
(06:37):
oh to one. So if you put Murray at number one,
I would agree. Mccrackens now number two at ten three
and three. They say Callaway would be your number three
team according to how I would have to do that,
So Callaway at eight five and one, then Marshall County
at nine eight and one, then Mayfield at four and eight,
(06:58):
then Puduka Tilman at one eight and one, and then
Graves County at two eight and one. Now again those
are not complete. So if you're doing this based on record,
if you're doing this which based on true RPI, based
on the things that should be input into that it
would be Murray one, McCracken two, Callaway three, Marshall four,
may Field at five, Graves at six, Tillman at seven.
(07:24):
That's that's based on the RPI, and I do believe
on Monday, I said, on the boy side, Murray's number one,
and everybody's chasing them. McCracken probably the team right behind
them with the best chance to disrupt that. And then
you always consider Marshall County and you gotta consider Calloway County.
That's what I said. That's what the RPI says, although
(07:45):
it does say, yeah, Calloway's ahead of Marshall, and I
do agree with that right now. That's on the boy's side.
Feathers got ruffled, though. On the girl's side, the folks
at Marshall County don't like being told they're not the
best team in the region. Okay, I get it because
the powerhouse of the region historically, traditionally, perennially, But the
(08:06):
best team in the region right now is Calloway County.
Them's are the facts. I said it on Monday. The
RPI says it, and to those that think otherwise, if
there was just a way they could play each other
and we would know. Oh they did in Calloway one. Now,
just because at this point in time, I'm saying Calloway
is the best team in the region and they are
(08:27):
the team that teams are chasing. That does not mean
they will win the win the region. Because here's the
thing about Marshall County. They have a way of winning tournaments.
They just have this knack for winning regional championships. They
just have this knack for winning in the postseason that
other teams just don't have or traditionally don't have. So
(08:49):
I'm sorry that that upsets some folks, but it is true.
Right now, Callawai County fifteen to one. Oh, they are
number one in the region both in my opinion and
the RPI. Marshall County is number two, thirteen to two
and one. Right now, Murray High is setting at number
three in the RPI, there's six four and one, but
Kraken County is number four. They are eight six and one.
(09:11):
Paduka Tilman is at number five at four and seven,
Mayfield is at number six at three and ten, and
Graves County is at number seven at one in eight.
So yes, right now, as things stand, and as things
have stood, since Callaoai County beat Marshall County in the
regular season. Callai County is the best team in girls
soccer right now. Just because they're the number one team.
(09:34):
This because I said they're the one teams are chasing
does not mean somebody won't chase them down. But as
you look at it, this thing has become a two
team race. And I said on Monday it was one A,
one B and I mean it. But the separation has
head to head. Callaway's got that win four Now postseason's
coming up. That's when Marshall County turns it on. That's
(09:55):
when they shine. So there you go, There you go.
So I thought we'd look at the RPR standing today
since they're available. Now, gotta take a break. We'll come back.
Turning the page. We're looking at week six of the
football season. When we return, it's Reagion one. You were
listening to the Region one Sports Report on ninety nine
to five the fan Reagion one Sports. Moving along on
(10:27):
your Wednesday edition of the show, we're gonna be talking
high school football Week six of the football season. That's right,
we are now over the halfway point. We'll get into
that here in a moment before we do. I was
reading this story between breaks. This is insane. You know,
we live in an age where we you know, door dash,
grocery delivery uber, I mean anything we want. I mean
(10:50):
you mobile mechanics, like you don't have to leave your
house to have anything you want at your disposal and
anything done at your disposal. Just don't do this. Don't
be this guy, as I was saying, same day delivery
services are convenient for food, last minute put paper, bestocking,
guilty or just anything you need. Supplies for a random
(11:10):
pull party, here you go. Not ideal, though, for procuring
murder supplies. That's right, murder supplies. On Monday morning, a
DoorDash driver alerted police after making a very strange delivery
to a motel in Sweetwater Taxes. How's anything bad going
on at Sweetwater Taxes? The complete list of items hasn't
(11:31):
been released, but word has it the delivery included trash bags,
zip ties, bleach, a hatchet and more. I mean, like,
could you be more obvious? Could you be more obvious?
Police say A forty two year old man named Neil
Cooper placed an order on door dash for these kidnapping
(11:52):
murder items. When the cops showed up at the motel room.
Neil refused to leave and warned officers that he was armed.
The cops forced the way in and found a hostage inside.
The hostage was rescued, but was later arrested on an
outstanding warrant. Yay the police aw man. There's no word
on the identity, but it sounded like the warrant was
(12:13):
drug related, So there's that. Neil was arrested for aggravated
kidnapping and there may be additional charges. It's unclear what
he planned to do with the victim, but clearly it
was a bad situation. A lot of people praised the
driver for acting after seeing the red flags. Others weren't sure.
One person even commented saying, I'm glad it worked out
(12:33):
for the best this time, but do we really want
our doordass driver deciding if your order is suspicious in
calling the cops. This person went on to said, I
want to tell the driver you don't get paid to
think you get paid to deliver things. Now, I'm pretty
sure it's a good thing he called the cops. I'm
pretty sure. Like I think again, this is one of
those situations where if it's that obvious. It's it's your fault,
not the driver, for being nosy. So there you go.
(12:55):
And I've always said, if you're not doing anything illegal,
let the cop show up. If I'm not doing anything illegal,
And what am I worried about? Why would I be
worried that my door dash delivery driver caught the cops
and said this guy has ordered way too many pizzas
in the twenty four hour period. Why would that bother me?
But if I'm doing something mischievous, you know, again, then
(13:16):
I would be upset, all right. So there's that, just
a little story. I was reading there between breaks football
week six, the high school football season is here, which
is insane. I was reading a tweet from one of
the football accounts on Twitter on x and it said, look,
there have been several teams, several teams in the last
(13:37):
ten years that have started five and oh and not
made the playoffs. Right halfway through the season, they look, man,
they look good, and then they get into district play
and they get into playing a better competition and they don't.
They don't make the playoffs. And there have been several
teams that have started ohing five and have gone on
to play in state championship games. I believe, and I'm
(13:58):
gonna go look at that in a moment, because it's
been a minute. I think when Graves County made their
run to the state title game in twenty fourteen, I
want to look it up now. I believe that season. Yeah,
they started one in three that season. I get it.
It's not zero to five or one and four or whatever.
But they started one in three that season, lost to Franklin, Simpson,
lost to Paduca, Tilman, lost to Mayfield, and ended up
(14:21):
just absolutely going on an absolute tear after that and
a run to the state title game, nearly winning a
state title. So to prove a point, it doesn't really
matter what you've been in the first five weeks. The
real season starts. Now. The real season has begun. Your
district play, all of that, A lot of things are
still on the line. Your season is not over, but
(14:42):
it's halfway over. Week six. Here are the matchups you've got,
Ballot Memorial playing South Fulton, Tennessee. Fulton County goes to
Lake County. That's Tiptonville, Tennessee. Calloway County goes to Logan County.
Murray is at McCracken Graves County goes to Madisonville, North Hopkins,
mar Counties at Muhlenberg County down by the Green River.
(15:02):
Mayfield is at Todd County Central, and Paduca Tilman is
hosting Allen County Scotsville. If I'm looking at that, I
think your heavyweight matchups. I think there's two this week,
and I don't necessarily think they'll both be good football games.
I just think they're the most intriguing. Callway County at
Logan County. Calloway has had a good start to the year,
but they've played the schedule they needed two to have
(15:23):
a good start. But it doesn't take away that they've
had a good start. They've had a tremendous start. Now
they take on Logan County. This has been this is
their best team on the schedule so far. So far,
They've still got to play Paduca Tilman, but so far,
this is the best team they'll face. So we really
are going to find out a lot about Callowai County.
(15:45):
I wish it was at home because I think it's
just a big disadvantage to go on the road to
Logan County. But still that that's one that that I'm
kind of circling for this week and then Murray at McCracken. Now,
like I said, it does not mean these are gonna
be like tight games, good, close games. Good. These could
(16:05):
be blowouts, these could be you know, lopsided games. I'm
just saying, as far as that slate of games, which
games are the most intriguing this week? Those two are
where you start. Then then I would say, okay, well
we'll dive a little deeper. What about Marshall County at
Muhlenberg Because again, and the reason this one is intriguing,
(16:28):
the reason with this one has some eyeballs on it.
Marshall's two and three to start the year. Now, they've
played a better schedule. They have absolutely played a better
schedule than Miuhlenberg County. But Miller County is four and one.
Now I do think Muhlenberg falls into that category of Man,
they're great in the first five weeks and they're gonna
be terrible in the in the next five weeks. I
(16:49):
just think so. But they are four and one. This
game is at Muhlenberg County turf field, you know, hour
and a half drive whatever it is, so you can
factor those things in. But I'm interested in that one
because this is a game Marshall County should and is
supposed to win. They are the favorite, even though they're
(17:11):
on the road, even though Meehlenberg's out to a better start.
Now we'll deep dive into that in a moment, but
so I would circle that one. That would be kind
of number three on my list, and then number four
and I'll be there. And that's probably why Graves County
at Madisonville. Now we've talked about this. Graves has had
their issues. They've got their issues moving the football, no
(17:33):
doubt about it. They've got their issue scoring, and they've
played a brutal schedule and this is another week. It
doesn't get easy. In fact, it may get harder. It's
on the road at Madisonville. It's a brutal place to
go play. Brutal, I mean, I'm not gonna say I'll
say it the definition of home fielding and a little
hometown cooking, just the definition of it. And they're good,
(17:57):
I mean they're really good. Madisonville right now, undefeated, ranked
to the top three or four in the class right now,
the favorite to win the district. And I just saw
Alminsboro last week and man Olminsboro look good. So this
one's intriguing for me. And I'd put a number four
on that list of games to look out for simply
because you start to wonder, is grape like, I know
(18:20):
you've got me Lumber County coming up. I know you've
got Marshall County coming up. You've got a long win
streak on Marshall County. But they're better. They are better
football teams. This season, Apollo has been good, like opportunity
to do some things and get into the postseason and
make a run after a tough first half of the
(18:40):
season starts to dwindle. And it doesn't get any easier
this week. But I'm gonna be curious to see how
Graves County responds this week on the road. Said that
it'd be number four on my list. After that, I
think you could. I mean, like, Mayfield plays Todd County
Central on the road there terrible, Mayfield's gonna go get
(19:02):
a big win. Just just spoil that one for you.
Paduka Tillman has Allen County Scotts full at home. They're terrible.
So those aren't gonna be good games. And I don't
know Ballard and South Fulton could be a good game.
I don't know anything about South Fulton, Ballard's still searching
(19:22):
for their first win. And then Fulton County at Lake County. Again,
I don't know anything about Lake County. I wish I did.
These two teams did not play each other last season.
They've played each other in the past, but did not
play last season, So I'm not sure how that's gonna go.
What the measuring stick is there Ballard in South Fulton,
I don't think they played last season either. I think
(19:44):
this is a this is a new one for them. Yeah,
so again I'm not sure, not sure, big question marks there.
But as far as these matchups, so we'll start talking
numbers and previews in a moment. As far as these
matchups go, I think the two at the top number
one would be Murray and McCracken's that's number one. I
(20:04):
put Callaway Logan County at number two, Marshall and Meehlenberg
at number three. But for different I just again, this
is a winnable football game from Marshall Muhlenberg's out to
a good start, and then Graves at Madisonville because at
some point if Graves is gonna flip it on I'm
not saying they got a win this week. I'm just saying,
do we see an improved football team? Do we see
(20:26):
them making continue to make strides? And then after that,
I think you've got I mean, I just I don't
even think you have to tune into the Mayfield game
or the Tillman game. And then I just don't know
enough about Fulton and Ballad. We'll try, we'll try to learn,
but I don't know enough yet. All right, let's take
a break, we'll come back, we'll preview some of those
games on the other side. Region one Sports Josh the
(20:47):
bit outside. He tried the corner and missed the best
in the West. Reason why Sports? As we roll along
here on your Wednesday of the show, So I gave
you the week six matchups, im, I'll give you give
you my predictions. Yet we'll do that on Friday. I mean,
I'm kind of I mean, Mayfield's gonna beat tod County
(21:08):
Central Tilman, it's going to be Downy County's consil Outside
of that, I think there's just there's a lot of intrigue.
I think there's some question marks. But let's start at
the top of that list that I gave you to
me that the game that everybody will be paying the
most attention to this week will be Murray and McCracken
County Murray at McCracken County. Now, keep in mind, Murray
(21:29):
has played McCracken County two times in their school's history,
and Murray is unbeaten so far. They beat them two
years ago thirty eight to thirty five, and the first
ever matchup between the two schools, that game was at McCracken.
Last season, Murray beat them twenty eight to twelve. Here's
the thing, I think Murray's better this season, and I'm
(21:50):
not sure if McCracken's better this season, maybe as good.
I don't know if they're better than last season. But
we can say that Murray right now has been better
than they were a year ago. And that's saying a
lot considering the talent that they lost. I mean, they
lost a top one hundred prospect and they graduated a
guy that was raided in the top I think at
the top sixty in the country went to Nebraska, and
(22:13):
this football team overall didn't miss a beat. In fact,
maybe a little bit better. Like I said, I don't
know about McCracken County. I don't know if right now.
I don't know. I know we're in week six and
you would think you would know, but they've played a
good schedule. It's just been a little up and down.
They've kind of been tough to put a finger on,
Like they shouldn't have lost thirty three to sixteen to
(22:35):
Logan County. Maybe they should have lost to Logan County,
but they didn't look good and their offense was really
stifled that game. I thought they probably should have at
least scored on a touchdown on mayfield and didn't, and
then turned out went last week, went on the road
to a good Union County team and put up forty
nine points. So I don't know who McCracken County is
(22:56):
right now. They're a little schizophrenic through the first five
weeks of the season. So their offensive identity has been
a little all over the map so far, a little inconsistent.
That's my point. So far this season, Maddix O'Neil, the
starting quarterback, has thrown the football at one seventy eight
per game, eight touchdowns, five picks. The freshman co Presswood
(23:16):
has come in. He has thrown the football at twenty
six yards per game. He has played in all five games,
three touchdowns, one pick. So as a team two hundred
and four yards passing per game, eleven touchdowns, six interceptions.
They are running the football at one hundred and ten
yards per game with ten rushing touchdowns. Their leading runner
has been Landon Newman four games played, though he's a
(23:37):
game behind fifty nine yards rushing per game, four of
those ten rushing touchdowns. So again, I think they can
move the football. I think they're good good offensively. I
just don't know if they're better offensively this year than
last year. And that's the concern because, like I said,
when predicting this game and making a making a prediction, yeah,
(23:58):
that's what you call it, making a pick. There we go.
Murray looks better than they did a year ago, at
least I think so. So far this season. Murray high
with their senior led quarterback and to me, the best
quarterback in the region this year, Wade Robbins, is throwing
the football at two two hundred and fifty seven yards
per game, eighteen touchdowns, one interception, one blemish. They've played
(24:24):
good football teams one pick. They run the football as
a team at one hundred and ninety six yards per
game with thirteen rushing touchdowns. Their leading runner is sixty
four yards per game. I just look, I'll make my
picks on Friday. The matchup here is tough for mc
kraken because Murray's offense is going to be tough for
(24:46):
that defense to stop. They just are It's been tough
for anybody to stop. Graves County's done the best job
and held them to thirty two points in a thirty
two to fourteen loss. That was at Murray. A little different.
They're playing on turf. I think I think Apollo's got turf,
so this will be the second turf game of the year.
But remember this is a Murray team that went two
hours on the road and beat Apolo Week one, forty
(25:09):
eight thirty four. So my point really is they are
the favorite. This could be a close game. It could
be McCraken could whatever they did right against Union County.
And let's look at the numbers for that game. Twenty
of twenty eight passing three seventeen, three touchdowns, no picks,
one hundred and thirty yards rushing twenty three carries, three
(25:31):
touchdowns on the ground. Yeah, I mean you do that
against Murray, and I don't think you can. I think
their defense is better than Union County. But if you
can find a way to do that against against Murray
at home, we got ourselves a ballgame. My concern is
going to be can you stop them? You might be
able to bottle it up lightning in a bottle, figured
(25:52):
it out on offense and do it and repeat last
week again this week. Now, can your defense step up
and stop Murray? That's the question. That's the thing to
be watching for him. That's where the matchup's going to be.
If McCracken's defense can find a way, they'll have a
shot to win this game. But if Murray is moving
(26:13):
the football pretty consistently Friday night, they're gonna go to McCracken.
They're gonna get a win. We'll talk about it more
on Friday. We'll get some more keys to the game
and some key matchups on Friday. But that again, that's
kind of the heavyweight battle this week. Right below that
Callaway County on the road at Logan County. Callaway County,
(26:34):
I gave you your flowers on Monday. I'm not gonna continue.
I mean, you're four and one You've played the right
schedule to be where you are after some really lean
and tough years. It's a little light though. It's a
pretty easy schedule, but listen, you needed it. You needed it.
Now you step up and you really face some competition.
Now Warren East was a step up in competition, but
(26:56):
they're still not great. But now you've got to go
on the road, first really true road game of the year,
and you faced an unbeaten and very good Logan County team.
The Logan County is traditionally a very good football team.
They're traditionally in the hunt and in the fight for
a district title, and they're a good for a football team.
But now you got to go on the road and
(27:17):
you got to face the best team you've faced all year.
This is a Logan County team that has been really
good on offense. They've been really stingy on defense. That's
what concerns me for Callaway County. Logan County gave up
fifteen points to hart County. By the way, Harte County's
only lost of the season that game, they only they
(27:38):
held McCracken County to sixteen points. They beat Russellville as
they should forty five nothing, but they should. Russellville not good,
won a football not good. They beat Greenwood in overtime
by only allowing twenty one points. That's the most points
they've given up they have given up all season. And
then they beat a bad Allen County Scotsvie team forty
two to seven. You look at Logan County run the
(28:00):
football their quarterback. Rather, they passed the football at one
hundred and ninety eight yards per game, eleven touchdowns, two
interceptions as a team, but they've ran out like five
quarterbacks this season. Their main quarterback though, averages one seventy
four game, eight touchdowns, two picks, sophomore by the way, sophomore.
And then they run the football one hundred and thirty
(28:21):
yards per game with ten rushing touchdowns, all ten touchdowns
by their top running back. I'm just concerned again, kind
of the same thing I said about McCracken County. I'm
concerned Callaway County can't stop Logan County. Now the Lakers,
for what it's worth, their offense is no pushover one
hundred and ninety four yards passing per game, twelve touchdowns,
(28:43):
three picks. Logan Smith is averaging one hundred and seventy
one yards rushing per game by himself with twelve rushing touchdowns.
As a team, they're at two thirty nine a game.
Gonna have to run the football well in this game.
I just don't know if this is a you're gonna
be able to do it. If this game was at
(29:04):
Callaway County, I'd feel a little bit better for the Lakers.
But on the road two hours, tough, tough road environment,
a good opponent. They're looking at you. They're not overlooking
you this year. They're not concerned you played Fulton County
in ballot room, but they're not concerned who you've beat.
They're looking at you and going, look you feel good.
You're four and one. We're gonna take you seriously. And
(29:24):
that's a different category for Calloway County this season. That's
a different level of attention that they're receiving than they've
received in the past. They're gonna be approached much more
focused from their opponent. So this is gonna be tough.
Logan County is certainly the favorite, but again the intrigue
here is not just to spoil my pick for Friday.
(29:46):
I'm not picking Calloway County I'm rooting for them, but
I'm not picking them. I don't think Callowy Kenny's gonna
win the game. I don't think they have a path
to win the game. Can they be competitive now that
they've stepped up to the best opponent they've seen all year?
Where are you really? This is that measuring stick game
for Callaway County. You're not gonna be the favorite against
(30:07):
Paduca Tilman, but Franklin Simpson's coming up and they're good.
But if you can go compete with Logan County, you'll
have a shot with Franklin Simpson. This is not a
foregone conclusion that you've only You're gonna only sit with four,
maybe five wins on the season. But I think a
lot can be determined by how you perform on Friday Night,
(30:28):
even in a loss. If that's where this thing is headed.
So again, those two games, Murray at McCracken, Callaway at
Logan County, I think those are the better games of
or at least the most intriguing games of the week.
Then I would put Marshall County in Milinberg County. And
I said this kind of earlier, kind of hinted at it.
(30:49):
Miliber County is not good. Don't get me wrong. They're
not a good football team. They've never really been a
good football team. But they're having a good season. They're
kind of in that Callaway County category right. They're playing
the right schedule. They're playing the schedule that's in front
of them that they need to play to try to
get some wins built up. They are four and one now.
(31:10):
The best opponent they've seen all season was Apollo, and
that's not a bad loss. Thirty four to twenty one
is not a bad loss considering that a year ago
they lost that game forty one nothing. A year before
that they lost that game forty one nothing. The year
before that they lost that game forty seven to twelve.
(31:30):
So if you're looking for marks of improvement, are you
getting better? Are you making strides? Milnenberg County may be
four to one against bad teams, but they're also a
better football team than they've been in the past. And
I think you see that in a loss. You do,
but it's a two score loss to a team that
(31:52):
absolutely has blown them away the last four three times
they've played Marshall County. They're improved. I think their schedule
has been a little bit better than Milerberg Counties. Obviously
in playing Murray and Madisonville the last two weeks, they
were more competitive in those games than people probably gave
(32:13):
them credit for early in the games, certainly with Madisonville
and Madisonville scored twenty eight points in like a quarter
last week, but until then, for two quarters of football,
Marshall County made it a ball game. So they're improved.
They're two and three. They should be three and two.
They know it, we know it. But they're an improved
(32:35):
football team. They passed the football at one hundred and
thirteen yards per game, five touchdowns, three picks. They run
the football at one eighty one a game with four
rushing touchdowns, and I think that's their strength. I think
they're gonna go on the road. Don't try to get cute,
don't try to get fancy. Do what you do best.
Control the line of scrimmage, control possession, control the clock,
(32:58):
don't don't take Milnburgh lightly. Be smart. I'm not saying
be conservative, Just be smart and go get a win.
Because if you go try to get cute, if you
go try to you know, if you go in thinking
you're gonna just do whatever you want on offense and
Meelnburg Counties they're gonna have a shot. So for me,
if I'm Marshall, I want to control the I want
(33:19):
to go run the football. I want to go control
the clock. I'm gonna use my big dudes up front
to wear Mielinberg County down to get it. Get them
into a heavyweight fight where you just get them, just
body blow after body blow and wear them out. Now,
Milingberg County on the season, I said they were improved.
Just eighty seven yards passing per game. That's not their strength.
(33:40):
Get this, two hundred and sixty eight rushing yards per game,
sixteen rushing touchdowns. They're gonna want to run the football too,
So all right, I mean, I think Marshall County is
gonna have more success throw in the football in this
game than Mielenburg, no doubt about it. I think Marscuinty
can have success throw in the football. I'm just saying,
do what you do best, and so far what you've
(34:00):
done best has been pretty good at running the football.
This is a improved me Milnberg County team. Don't take
them lightly. This is a winnable football game for Marshall
that you've got to have if you're gonna get over
that hump. We've talked about it over and over. So
that's number three on my list of the most intriguing games.
And then number four for me is Graves in Madisonville.
(34:22):
I don't know. I always root for my Eagles. I
always pick them to win. That won't change this week.
This is one of those games where right now, I
don't think you're gonna win the district, probably not gonna
finish second in the district, but you still, I mean,
this is this is that game, right like, you go
win this game, find a way to pull the upset.
You can really, I'm talking really salvage a season this week.
(34:45):
And that's why this game is intriguing. That's why this
game is interesting even if you're not a Graves County
person like me. The Eagles at some point the offense
is just I mean seven points, fourteen points, fourteen points,
nineteen points, fourteen points. Yes, these are all really good opponents,
so is Madisonville. Again, I'm not intrigued necessarily by the matchup. Clearly,
(35:08):
Madisonville's a heavy favorite. At Madisonville. They're good, they're unbeaten.
They put up points. They got a good defense, like
all of those things. But Graves County to be one
in four, this is a pivotal week. Yes, you still
have Apollo, Marshall, Miehlenberg, you still have three district opponents
after that. At worst case scenario, you lose this game
(35:31):
and finished third in the district. But I think all
odds are going to be on. Can you go compete,
give yourself a chance and set yourself up to finish strong,
and you go pull the upset, You completely flip the
script on the season. There's a path for that. We'll
talk about it on Friday. I'm running out of toime,
(35:53):
so those are the games for me this week. Murriott, McCracken,
Callaway at Logan, Marshall at Miehlenberg, Graves at Madisonville. After that,
just don't know enough or it's going to be blowout city.
That's it for today. I hope you've enjoyed back on
Friday with more. Until then, this has been Region one
