Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five, the fad and away we
go on your Friday. It is a Friday, September twenty
sixth edition of the Region one Sports Report. I'm Brian
Yorke and I hope you're doing well on this Friday.
As always, And of course if you want to get
a hold of the show, you can do that on
(00:27):
social media on Facebook at Region one Sports Report, on
x at Region one Sports, on Instagram at Region one
Sports and via the phone line the old school way.
You can text us, you can call us, I guess,
but you can get ahold of us that way. Our
text line is two seven oh five three four forty
three oh eight. And again, I hope you're doing good
(00:48):
on a Friday. We have made it. Week six of
the football season is here. That is absolutely insane. It's
week six of the football season. It is feeling a
little more like football weather. We'll come. But it was
a little chillier this morning into the fifties, so I'm
not mad at that. I am mad, however, not mad
that it rained. Don't get me wrong. I am not
(01:09):
mad that it rained. It was good to see the rain.
It's been good to see the rain. Hello, rain, where
you've been? But my yard three acres completely brown, completely crisp,
nothing growing. I was not gonna have to mow until
the leaves, you know, had all completely fallen. That was
my goal. Like, I'm a wait, leaves are gonna fall,
then I'm gonna mow. But the mower has been put
(01:30):
up for two months. I haven't even broke it out
in like a month at least a month and a
half at least, and I'm not gonna have to get
it out but one more time this fall. That was
my goal. And then all this rain and then I
pull in my driveway yesterday and I'm like, why is
my yard so green and now so tall? Like how
did it come back so quick? Thank you rain, Seriously,
(01:52):
I'm glad to see the rain, but ugh man really
hoping not to really hoping not to have to get
that mower out more than I had to the rest
of the fall. Nonetheless, good to see the rain. I
guess it's good to see the grass back. I guess
it's good that it's green again. I don't know, but
it does feel a little late in the year to
have grass just popping in being all lush and green again.
(02:14):
But that's what we've that's what I got to look
forward to this weekend, aside from Week six of the
football season, Aside from the fact that fall sports in
general is winding down. I mean, I know college basketball
is practicing now. I know, like we're a month away
from college basketball getting underway. I get all that we're
two months away, just two from high school basketball, and
(02:35):
I know that seems like a long time away, but
it is not. You know, I said this last year,
it feels like, you know, this is year eight. I
think of the show. Maybe you're nine, this is year
eight of the show. And it felt like the first
few years we really enjoyed our time together. It felt
like the time moved solely we were able to really
(02:55):
enjoy and digest and really dive into the sport that
we were in. And to be honest, the last four
years it just feels like one big blur, Like we
start in fall sports and we're doing football, and we're
here we go with soccer and all right, volleyball, and
then you turn around and you're previewing basketball and you're like,
all right, well, you know, three months of basketball season,
(03:16):
and then all of a sudden, you're the regional tournament.
You're going, where's the time going? And he goes by
very very fast, very fast. The older I get, the
faster it goes. I mean, it's true, it's true, but
it is already flying by here in fall basketball two
months away, we'll be doing I mean, we'll be doing
basketball previews in a month, like we'll start our basketball
previews in a month. As soon as we celebrate Halloween,
(03:40):
one of my favorite times of the year, we will
start to turn our attention to the basketball season, which
I'm looking forward to. But I don't want to rush.
I don't want it to rush here, and I don't
need to rush it along. Take your time, enjoy. My
oldest kid is in seventh grade. It's it's going by
way too fast. And you talk about phil old. I've
(04:01):
got some friends on Facebook and they were doing like
they were sharing you know, where will you be in
ten years, And it was they were sharing you know,
I'll be forty years old with a thirteen year old
kid and a five year old kid. Ah, life's crazy. Yeah, Well,
in ten years, I'll be fifty one years old with
a twenty two year old kid and an eighteen year
old kid. So can we can we pump the brakes
(04:22):
on where we're going to be in a decade. We
can we maybe have asked the decade to take its time,
you know, elapsing. I guess that'd be nice seeing those
things yesterday. That really made me feel good. Thanks thanks
for that, Facebook, Thank you. Well, all right, let's do
what we do. Let's talk high school sports on your
Friday edition of the show. We'll go over scores and
things from around the region on a Thursday. Then we
(04:45):
will set you up in preview and pick our football
games for this Friday. So, without further ado, let's do
that thing we do here, we go looking back at
scores from around the region on a Thursday. We'll start
with boys soccer. Just one game that we had reported.
It was Marshall County over Paduca Tilman four to one.
So the Marshalls beat Tillman for to one in boys soccer.
(05:06):
In girls soccer, Marshall County over Paduca Tilman eight nil,
and Murray shut out Lion County eight nil. It's girls
soccer volleyball. Again, there were more games. These are the
only ones that have been reported volleyball Ballad Memorial over
Graves County three to two, Carlole County shuts out Hickman County,
and a rivalry game three nothing. Fulton County over Obien
(05:27):
County Central. That's Troy, Tennessee, three sets to two. They
beat them three to two. And then Mayfield over livings
In Central three sets to none. That's your volleyball, that's
your soccer. That's your scores from Thursday. Did anything stand out?
Not really? Kind of is what it is. Mostly chalk
all chalk, nothing big, No no monster games, no monster
(05:48):
Oh my gosh, did you see that? Just is what
it is at this point. And so since we don't
really have anything massive to dive into from those sports
from Thursday night, let's let's do a regional reset. Let's
look at records and how things stand across the region.
Let's look at where we are. When you look across
the region, I mean we are, you know, for soccer,
(06:10):
most of these schools are wrapping up their seasons. You know,
the next week and a half they'll play into soccer
will play. I think you get through the end of
fall break and then we come back from fall break.
It's it's tournament time. It's district tournament time, and some
teams are playing into fall break and some teams are not.
I mean, so that's it is what it is. Volleyball
(06:32):
wraps up their regular season the end of the regular
season the week after we get back from fall break.
So what the seventeenth Friday? The seventeenth will be sort
of the last friday of the regular season for volleyball,
and then they begin their district play I guess on
the twentieth or that week of the twentieth, So tournament
play for soccer would be the week of the thirteenth
(06:52):
for volleyball the next week. I mean, it's crazy, but
I mean we're gonna like next week is you know,
last week before fall break. We all go on fall break, which,
by the way, I go on fall breaks. So noll
show that week. Most of football is off that week,
and then when we come back, we're talking tournament action
for soccer and then for volleyball. Wow, So let's do
(07:16):
a region one reset. Let's look at how things stand
as we go into this friday of one of the
final weeks of the regular season. For We'll start with
what page of my ond boy Soccer There we go
that works, don't have to click around find another tap
on boys soccer. Right now, things are looking pretty good
for Murray High. We talked about this earlier in the
week with a look at the RPI. We talked about
this with sort of if you're ranking the teams and
(07:37):
where they stand. But Murray High is fifteen to oh
to one, seven and oh in the Region six and
oh in district play. That the best team in the RPI.
They've scored seventy two goals, They've only surrendered ten, that's
the best in goals scored in the region. That's the
fewest given up from any team in the region. So
they're they're good. Like I think that tells me that
(08:00):
Murray Hi's very good in boys soccer. Right behind them,
and I guess you could say is probably the closest
team to them right now would be McCracken County. They
are ten three and three so far this season. They
are six oho and one in the Region four and
oh in their district. They have scored forty nine goals,
they have surrendered fifteen, So their defense is sort of
(08:22):
right there on par with Murray but their offense a
little behind. In fact, it is the third best, or rather,
I guess I should say the third most goals scored
in the region so far this season from a Region
one team forty nine. Then you've got I would say,
Callaway County eight five and one, four to three and
one in the region. They are three and two in
(08:43):
their district. They have scored forty eight goals surrendered thirty five.
So you see kind of now where the difference is
going to start to come In Marshall County they are ten,
eight and one, five and three in the Region, two
and two of the district. They have scored fifty six goals,
that second in the region, and have given up the
third most thirty four. So right there, well, Paul's right there.
(09:04):
Murray has surrendered ten goals, McCracken fifteen. And then the
third best team in the region by surrendered goals or
goals given up is Marshall County at thirty four. It's
nearly a twenty goal difference between the number two defensive
team and the number three defensive team in the region.
That's that's a big gap. Like that's a big gap
(09:28):
goals scored. I mean, you're looking at Murray with seventy
two Marshall County's got the second most goals at fifty six,
so you look at the difference there. Wow. So after
those teams, then you've got Mayfield. They are four and
eight on the season, two and six in the Region
one and four of the district. They have scored thirty four,
(09:49):
given up fifty one. Graves County is two to nine
to one. They're oh to seven and one in the
Region oh and four in district play they've given up
fifty five goals, only scoring twenty on the season. And
then Paduka Tillman they are two nine and one, won
six and one in the Region oh to four in
the district they have scored twenty given up forty four.
(10:10):
So the three teams with a winning record all have
they've all scored at least twenty more goals than they've
given up on the season. The three teams of the
losing record have given up at least twenty more goals
than they've scored on the season. So that's kind of
where things are with boys soccer, all right, girls soccer,
(10:33):
same thing. Callaway County fifteen and one, six and oh
in the Region five and zero in district play. They
have scored a staggering ninety four goals this season, and
this season's not over. The season is not over. They
still have two more games of the regular season. They
could break one hundred absolutely ninety four goals scored, thirteen
(10:55):
given up. Marshall County at fourteen to two and one
eight and one in the region. That won lost to
Callaway County. They're four to zero in their district. They've
scored seventy one goals, they've given up ten. Wow. Murray
has been impressive in this as well. Murray has scored
fifty eight goals, they've only surrendered eight. They're seven to
four and one overall on the season, five and four
(11:16):
in the region, four and two in the district. Then
mccranken County they are eight six and one on the season,
four and two in the region, two and two in
the district. They've scored fifty six, they've surrendered twenty and
then the three losing teams, Paduka Tilman is four and eight.
They're two and five in the region, oh and four
in the district. They've scored twenty but given up fifty eight.
(11:38):
Mayfield has given up the most goals in the region.
They are three and ten so far on the season
one in seven of the Region one and four in
the district, they've scored twenty. They've given up eighty four. Wow,
Graves County has one in eight on the season oho
and seven of the Region zero and four in the district,
they've scored twelve. They have given up fifty three. Man,
(12:00):
it was we were in like year three. I think
of this show year four. Maybe it's only been a
handful of years since, but it was a few years
into the show. Craves was competing. Those first three or
four years of the show, Craves was competing for regional titles.
They were good. And now they're scoring twelve goals and
(12:21):
giving up fifty three. That's crazy. It's crazy, but that's
how things stand. I mean, Calloway's the best offense, second
best defense, Marshall's the second best offense, best second. Actually,
let me rephrase that, Calloys the best offense, third best defense,
Marshall the best second best offense, second best defense, and
(12:42):
Murray's the third best offense, best defense, if you will,
according to goals scoring goals surrendered. So there you go.
There's a little Region one reset how things stand. Poison
Girls Soccer alrighty, we'll take a break. We'll come back
our football games tonight. Here's the full slate, and then
we'll come back and break it down. Paduka Tillman is
(13:03):
hosting Allen County Scottsville. Scott's Totts come to town and
Tilman's gonna run them back home. Mayfield at Todd County.
Central Graves County is at Madisonville, North Hopkins, Marshall Counties
at Muhlenberg County, Callaway County at Logan County, Murray at
McCracken County, Fulton County is at Lake County, and Ballert
Memorial will host South Fulton. Will break them down, preview
(13:24):
them and pick them when we come back. This is
Region one Sports. Region one Sports. Nope, it's not Ashton Coucher.
It's Brian York, equally handsome, equally smart. On ninety nine
to five. The fans andry just too widen nerdy. I
(13:48):
think it's just too widen nerdy, can't you see? And
whiton nerdyrdy. That's right, I am just white and nerdy.
This is the Region one Sports report. Brian York here,
parody song or not. I don't think a song is
ever been written that could be more of my theme
song than that to so many levels, so many, I mean,
even the things that distract me in the morning, Like
(14:10):
we're rolling along, I'm recording the first segment doing the show.
I mean very literally. I have to record and then
go load the show for it to air and time
on the radio. So like I am fifteen minutes ahead
of when the next segment airs, so I have that
time to record it, load it and get it on right.
And I spent five minutes of that between breaks just
(14:33):
reading some random facts, and they had me distracted. That's
how nerdy I am. I find these things interesting, fascinating.
I hope they come up in conversation so I seem smart.
They never do, but I'm fascinated by them, like this one.
For example, did you know most kangaroos are left handed?
That's insane. I mean, now I know, because one of
(14:53):
my biggest fears is encountering a kangaroo. Like I know,
i'd have to be in Australia. I'd love to go
to Australia, but my fear is to go in and
come across a kangaroo and then have to have to
box it. Now, I know it's a lefty right can't
go right, respect it's left. So now you know, those
(15:14):
are the things that get me distracted. How about this one.
There's a word for half a decade. Did you know that?
We call it a decade. We call you know, ten
years is a decade. But what about five years? Well,
there's a word for that. It's lustroom. Lustroom, which seems weird,
but it's, uh, you know, it's hard to believe it's
been a lustroum since the pandemic broke out. I'm gonna
(15:34):
start using that in conversation, by the way, And I
know the people that I'm around, not that they're not smart.
They's some of the smartest people I know, because they're
the only people I know. But the people that I'm
around most of the time, when I use this in
a conversation, they're gonna look at me like I have
three heads. They're not gonna believe it's real, but it is.
So this is this is the stuff that distracts me.
This is these are the things I find fascinating. Lustrom Now,
(15:58):
if you listen to the show and I'm around you,
to not at the football game or I'm around you,
this weekend or around you next week. And I bring
that up, you're gonna know exactly what it means. I
won't see him as smart then, or like I just
made up a word, but it's true. All right, all right,
let's move on. Let's get into our week six football
matchups again. I gave you the schedule earlier. Let's revisit.
(16:20):
You have Mayfield at Todd County Central. You have Paduka
Tillman hosting the Scott's totts Allen County Scottsville coming to town,
and they're gonna be sent home packing Graves County at Madisonville,
Marshall County goes to Muhlenberg, Calloway County's at Logan County,
Murray is at McCracken County, Fulton County is at Lake
County that is Temptonville, Tennessee, and Valor Memorial is hosting
(16:44):
South Fulton, Tennessee. Those are your slate of games for
week six. Let's start with the things I just don't
I'm not gonna be able to talk much about. Somebody
had had shared on the text line a little bit
about some of these teams. By the way, that text
line is two seven oh five, three four, forty three eight,
And they were kind of giving me a little bit
of insight into Fulton County and Ballard Memorial's opponents tonight,
(17:08):
Lake County for Fulton County and South Fulton for Ballard.
And they said that South Fulton has been down, but
they seem to be improved this season, and they probably
would pick them to come up to Ballor and take
down the Bombers. So that's there's that Fulton County at
Lake County. They said they feel pretty good about Fulton County.
(17:29):
So again, I don't know anything about these teams, but
based on that text, I'll trust I'll trust the person
that text came from, and I will say I can't
give you much more other than South Fulton's been better
this season and the way things have gone for Ballard. Unfortunately,
Ballard still winless, struggling to score since the first week
the football season. They probably do move the football tonight,
(17:50):
but man, they've really struggled to stop teams. So it
appears that the good folks of South Fulton are gonna
come up and enjoy their trip to Ballard. And I'm
jealous of them because two of my favorite restaurants period
are there, And I know that sounds like I'm be
in sarcastic. I'm not. You go all the way to Ballard.
You've got two good eateries there, he goes. At least
(18:11):
there's more. There's more but two of my personal favorite,
Smoke at Ease and the Bluegrass Restaurant. Any chance I get,
any chance I get to hit either one of them,
I will make it. Make a point. So little jealous
of the of the good folks, friends, family, and fans
of South Fulton, but unfortunately probably looks like another night
(18:31):
where Ballard might be on the wrong side of the
wind column. They do get Russellville next week, and that
will be opportunity for Ballard. Russellville not is good, not
very good at all. So circle that one and then
Fulton County in a couple of weeks. So there's opportunity there.
It just doesn't appear according to people who know that
it might be tonight. The other game I don't know
(18:52):
much about, but we'll give you what I can is
Fulton County. They are on the road. They travel south
to Tiptonville to Lake County, Tennessee. If Fulton County has
been scoring the football now again, they can't stop anybody either,
that's their problem. But they scored thirty eight points against Gleason, Tennessee,
and then against Greenfield, Tennessee they put up thirty four. Again,
(19:14):
those are in losses, but but they have moved the football.
They can score some points. And according to the text machine,
I can't believe I said that. I don't like sand
text machine. According to our text line, they would pick
Fulton County tonight, so I will too. So I've got
South Fulton over Ballard. Although you know me, I'm a
Region one homer, So go Ballard, rooting for you, But
South Fulton may be better. And then I'm picking Fulton
(19:36):
County to go to Tennessee and get a win. So
one Tennessee will invade us and get a win, We'll
go invade Tennessee and break even tonight. So those are
the games I know a little bit less about. Admittedly,
a couple of more games that should not be close games.
A couple of games on the schedule tonight that probably
should be and I expect to be blowouts. Mayfield goes
(19:58):
to Todd County Central. They're gonna they're Todd County is
gonna wish they had never seen Mayfield coming. And then
Allen County scottsvill Scott's Totts will come to Puduka Tillman
and that one should be a quick trip for them.
So let's look at these teams real quick. Let's look
at Mayfield first, Todd County and then Tilman versus Scott's Totts,
which is, by the way, what I'm going to forever
call Allen County Scottsvielle. So let's look at Mayfield first.
(20:21):
Mayfield they are now four and one on the season.
Todd County they are two and I'm sorry, one to
four on the season. So flip the record of Mayfield.
Their opponent tonight, the Rebels of Todd County Central. The Rebels,
they moved the football in the air at about fifty
four yards per game, one touchdown, zero pick, So just
(20:41):
one touchdown in the air. I think you can eliminate
that from being a threat in a way that they
will try to score the football. They do run the
football at about one hundred and forty six yards per game,
seven rushing touchdowns, but their top runner is at about
forty seven yards per game Mayfield. On the flip side
of that, the Cardinals. They are running the foot or sorry,
(21:03):
passing the football at two twelve a game, ten touchdowns,
two picks. They run the football at one to fifty
eighty game, fifteen rushing touchdowns. Cardinals are gonna go get
a win most likely and expecting to be a running
clock tonight. Paduo could Tillman. They don't go on the
road for this, but they're gonna end up with a
very similar result. Tillman four and one on the season.
(21:24):
Their opponent Allen County Scottsville, the Patriots Scott's Tots, Patriots.
They are winless so far this year. The Patriots. They
are moving the football at ninety one yards per game
in the air, three touch three touchdowns, six interceptions. They
only run the football at thirty four yards per game
with one touchdown. Yikes, Oh, my goodness. That you talk
(21:46):
about mismatches, overmatched, whatever you want to call it. My goodness,
Now there are good games where Tillman fans don't show up. Anyway,
there's gonna be very few people in the stands there
to not. I do have a feeling so that one
very much expected to be a running clock pretty much
early in that one. Wow. Wow, all right, So those
(22:07):
are two games I don't know much about. Those are
two games that should be absolute blowouts. Now we get
into some games with a little more intrigue, could be
a little more interesting, could be a little close, could
be a little more little better football played in these games.
I'll put it that way. So I think, and I'll
do this in order of what we think the best
game or most intriguing matchup is. I think number one,
(22:28):
the main event Murray at McCracken. It's a whole tight
We'll get to that in a moment. After that, it's
kind of just what are you looking for, what are
you interested in? What intrigues you? I think Marshall at
Muhlenberg intrigues me. It does. Muhlenberg's got a good record,
They're moving the football, They are better than they were
last year. And that's not coming for me. That's coming
(22:49):
from coaches that know, they're like, look, we get it.
Their schedule has been better, but they've lost to these
kind of bad teams in the past. They're not losing.
They're playing good football, and you got to go play
at Meulimberg County. That intrigues me. That's number two on
my list. Number three is Calloway County at Logan County. Now,
Callaway is gonna find out Logan County may be the
(23:09):
second best team in their district. Maybe it's a good district,
there's three good teams in it, but Callawai County's got
off to a hot start, best start in forever. And
now you're gonna go And this is the first real
road game, the first real measuring stick game for Callaway County.
And then Graves County at Madisonville. At some point, something's
(23:32):
got to give for the Eagles if they're going to
turn this thing around. And this is not an easy
week or a tough or an easy place to do it,
but this is this is where things have got to
start doing it. This is where you got to start
doing it. So that's on my list. So those are
the games for me, in my humble opinion, that are
going to be the biggest ones tonight. And here's the thing.
(23:53):
None of them, you know, they may all still be lopsided.
I'm not saying that we're gonna look up at the
end of the night. We're gonna go. Man, the closest
games we had all night where these four games this
could be a night where you've got a lot of
lopsided scores. This could be a night where the Ballards
and the Fultons have the close games and everything else
goes blowout, or these are really truly these four games
(24:18):
are really where the best football will be played and
the score will reflect it. It's just it's tough sometimes,
it's really tough in football season. I know we're six
weeks in, but it's still tough to get a feel
for a few of these teams based on strength of schedule.
And I say on here all the time, good teams
beat bad teams bad and Miielenberg's done that. Callaway County
(24:41):
has done that, and they're you know, going into the
Logan County game. But does that mean you're that you know,
really that good. Those are some things we're still trying
to figure out in week six of the football season.
I think you'll have a pretty clear answer tonight. Let's
take a break, we'll come back, we'll talk about it,
we'll break down those games, give you our picks when
we return. This is Region one Sports, the fastest growing
(25:02):
local sports show in the region. This is Region one Sports.
Nothing you can do, nothing, you can see nothing, you
can throw away spride reeve and rubber stamp and beaver clipping,
shorty file impact and it's time Region one Sports final segment.
But a lot to get into on this final segment,
(25:23):
So let's just get into it. Your main event match
up tonight, Murray at McCracken County. Now, as I said,
the expectation is, this could be a good football game.
The expectation is this is more of an intriguing matchup
tonight than some of the other ones. However, it also
could be a blowout. This also could look more in
(25:45):
line or more similar to McCracken going to Mayfield. Now, again,
this is a home game for McCracken. That's the good news.
But this has not been a close series the last
few years, to be honest, Well, to be fair, it
was closer a few years ago. This was a thirty
eight to thirty five Murray win at McCracken in twenty
(26:06):
twenty three. Then last season twenty eight twelve Murray over McCracken.
The thing is, and this is kind of what I
brought up earlier this week, I think Murray's better. I
think Murray actually is better than last season. That's crazy
to say they had a top fifty recruit, that a
kid go d one go play in a Power five conference.
(26:28):
But their offense has been dare I say better and
has been incredible this season, And I don't know if
you can say the same about McCracken. Not that they're
not good, I don't know if you can say they
are better than last season. I'm not saying they're not
as good. I'm not saying they can't still go on
to have a great year or not on track to
at least match what they did last season. I just
(26:49):
don't know if this team is as good as last season.
You look at last season's football team for McCracken County
and just look at their stats. Now, this again factoring
in the full season, but they through the football at
two hundred and forty seven yards per game, forty two touchdowns,
eighteen interceptions. They ran the football at one sixty two
per game with eighteen rushing touchdowns. You can trast that
(27:12):
and compare that to this season. They're throwing the football
at two hundred and four yards per game with eleven
touchdowns six interceptions, So not on the same pacing at
all there and then running the football last season again
at nearly won fifty a game. This season at won
ten a game. So, like I said, now, last season
they kind of turned things around or at least had
(27:33):
things on the right track once they hit this point
of the year. Now they were two and four to
start the season. They ended up rattling off, ended up
beating Henderson County, who's not bad. Never bad at football.
They weren't great last season, but they're not bad, and
they ended up with one of those crazy games last
year with them. They beat Christian County, they beat Davis County,
(27:54):
lost to Graves, beat Warre. I mean, they ended up
like winning four of their last what five before lou
Using their final game of the year in the second
round of the playoffs. So things turned around and probably
turned around stat wise for them at this point last year.
But it was also at this point last year they
had lost to Murray before that run. And that's kind
of the point I'm getting into. Feels very similar. Maybe
(28:16):
they're not better than last season, maybe just as good,
but it's still next week where things kind of tend
to take a turn, or took a turn last year
in that part of the schedule. It was Week seven
when they really got things turned around and got into
the win column more than not. This year, it'll be
a little harder because they go from Murray to a
(28:36):
improved Hopkinsville team. I still think that's a game they
should win. Then they're gonna play Christian County, who, by
the way, their football coach just resigned. And my first
thought was maybe because he wasn't putting stats on KHSAA.
But their football coach just resigned. They're in shambles, they're terrible.
So that's gonna be a win for McCracken County, then
(28:57):
Henderson this season, Henderson looks to be better than they
were a year ago. But but that's still a winnable game.
Although at Henderson and then Graves County still some good
days to come. But is this the week they get
it going? And to say yes to that, I would
have to think they're better than they were a year ago,
And like I said, I think they can be as good.
I don't know if they're better Murray, on the other hand,
(29:19):
they seem to be better. I mean right now they're
unbeaten and they've played some good teams. Now they've played
some I mean, listen, Russellville's terrible. That's one a football
that is, that's a give me, that's a get my
guys healthy, that's a get an easy one kind of game.
And you need that. I think you need that. Marshall's
not been bad this season. Graves is not. I mean, listen,
(29:40):
another record doesn't reflect it. But Graves played them incredibly tough,
and Apollo is not bad, and they went on the
road and got that win. Murray unbeaten throwing the football
at two hundred and sixty three yards per game, one
hundred and ninety seven rushing yards per game, eighteen touchdowns
in the air, one interception, thirteen touchdowns on the ground.
(30:02):
Now a year ago, and keep those numbers in mind.
Just the averages two sixty three in the air, one
ninety six on the ground last season for Murray High
through the whole year they average two twenty one of
the year one thirty eight on the ground. So they
appear to be having a better season offensively, and that's
trouble for me for McCracken County. Now, again, this could
(30:24):
be a complete surprise. This could be a close game
and McCracken could go pull the upset. Could but based
on last year's trend and base where things look like
they are at this point of the season for each
of the two teams. I don't think this is gonna
be McCracken versus Mayfield thirty nine to three, couldn't move
the football. I do think Murray comes in and gets
(30:44):
a big win tonight. I do, but we'll see that's
Murray and McCracken tonight. Then for me, Marshall County going
to the Green River or Paradise lays, which I don't
think it does. I've never had a good experience at
Meulimber County ever. Ever, it's always been weird. It's weird.
That's the word to describe it. It's not bad, it's weird.
(31:05):
It's different. The only good experiences I've ever had have
been at Uncle Lee's. That's it, and that's just good
childhood memories of needing new Camo to go hunting and
we go to Uncle Lees to get it. But everything
else is just My trips have always been memorable for
the wrong reasons. So they go to Paradise, they go
(31:25):
to Muhlenberg County and they take on and improved Muhlenberg
County team. They are four and one this season now again,
strength of schedule matters. McLean County is good. McLean County
is a good two a football team. They are three
and two on the season and their worst game of
the year was being shut out by Muhlinberg County. They've
scored forty four twenty four, twenty and forty four points
(31:48):
the next four weeks. Zero in Week one against Mulinberg County.
Webster County is not good. Melanberg County took care of
them easily. Edmondson County is not great, not not great.
Milinberg County won by five. They played Ohio County. They
won that game big because Ohio County is terrible, terrible.
(32:09):
And then their loss to Apollo was thirty four to
twenty one. You want to talk about made up ground.
Apollo beat Milanberg County last season forty one nothing. They
beat Miliberg County forty one nothing in twenty twenty three,
so they had scored eighty two points and given up
none the previous two years and Apollo wasn't even as
(32:29):
good that those two years as they are this season.
Apolo has got a good football team this year. They'd
they've improved each year. They've got a good quarterback, they
got a good scheme, they've been building and turning things
around there, and they were man handling Milanberg County even
when they weren't as good this season, they still beat
them thirty four to twenty one. That one, to me
(32:52):
is the one that woke me up to uh oh,
Milanberg County again. Not a great team, but that's a
better football team than they've had in a long time.
And Marshall goes there turf field. You know, you drive
an hour and a half to the middle of nowhere
to play on a turf field, and you look at
Melinberg County and you look at what they've been this season.
(33:13):
Let's look at it stat wise, throwing the football at
just eighty seven yards per game, four touchdowns on the ground,
no picks. But they are running the football at two
hundred and sixty eight yards per game with sixteen rushing touchdowns.
And there it is Marshall County two and three on
the season. They've played a better schedule. I think that
does count. I think that does factor in. They throw
(33:36):
the football at one thirteen per game, five touchdowns, three picks.
They run the football at won eighty one A game
with four rushing touchdowns. Jake Thomas and the super sophomore
at eighty three yards per game, still just one touchdown
on the year for a kid that's averaging eighty three
yards per game and he's been good. We got to
get him more touches in the end zone. We got
to get him some scores. But Marshall County a little
(33:59):
more bound san Muelnberg County. I like Marshall's strength to
schedule better. I think that pays off for them. I
think they go on the road and get the win.
I'm not saying Meulanberg County is quite that good yet better,
not quite there yet. This was a thirty three to
nothing win for Marshall last year, thirty six seven win
a couple of years ago, and again I think this
(34:21):
is where Melanberg County will play competitive. I think this
will be a competitive football game, or a closer game
than the past two versions of it. But I do
think Marshall County goes on the road. But this is
a very telling game, especially if you're Graves County, if
you're in that district and you're looking at this and
you're going, man, we thought Meehlenberg would be an easy win.
We've had Marshall's number for a number of years. This
(34:42):
could be definitely a game film you're gonna want to
study quite a bit. We'll see. So that's Marshall, Memuhlenberg
Calloway County at Logan County. As I said, Callaway County again,
you play the schedule that's right for you. They've played
the right schedule. Four and one. Good teams beat bad
team bad. They've done that, So that tells me they
are still a good football team despite maybe the schedule
(35:05):
being a little weaker. But they're four to one and
they've been good, and I've been singing their praises because
they've deserved it. Throwing the footba at one hundred and
ninety four yards per game, twelve touchdowns, three picks to
forty a game on the ground, eighteen rushing touchdowns Logan County,
though they're unbeaten on the year. That includes a overtime
(35:25):
win over Greenwood, who's pretty solid. Logan County throws the
football at one ninety eight a game, eleven touchdowns, two picks.
They run the football won thirty a game with ten
rushing touchdowns. Logan County is better on offense, they're more balanced,
which is weird to say, and they've also played a
better schedule. This game is at Logan County. Just so
many things working against Calloway County. So what I'm looking
(35:47):
for tonight, I do think Calloway is gonna lose. I'm
rooting for them to win, but I do think they're
gonna lose. But I'm looking for the ground that you've
made up. You're better this season, You've proven it. Now
you step up in competition. Is this going to look
like the previous few meetings. Logan County won this game
forty to seven last season, they were thirty four to
(36:08):
nothing the year before that, forty two to seventeen the
year before that. Or is this a game that you
can compete, go play and go show you're truly and
have truly made those strides. So that's what I'm looking
forward that game tonight. But I do think again Logan
County is gonna get the win. Just so many factors
working against Callaway on the road. Best opponent they've played
(36:29):
so far this season. Maybe Murray's still probably the best
team they've played, but certainly the first good district game
they've played, and then they get Franklin Simpson next week.
They're probably the third best team in that district. Then
Scott's totts Allen County Scottsville, that'll be a win, and
then who knows Marshall at the end of the year.
But still three tough games coming up for Callaway. Where
(36:52):
are you? Where are you really at? We'll find out tonight.
And then last but not least, my Eagles go to Madisonville,
where Graves County is looking for their first district win.
Graves one and four on the season, uncharted territory. They've
not been one in four since twenty eleven. It's been
(37:12):
a minute, been a while, but they are one in
four taking on unbeaten Madisonville, who did knock off Paduka Tillman.
At Madisonville, the Maroons won't throw the football downfield. When
they do throw it, it's a lot of screens and
a lot of swinging gate kind of stuff. They throw
it laterally, not vertically. Ninety seven yards per game, five touchdowns,
(37:35):
four interceptions. They will hand the football off to High Tower,
who I think has played high school football for nine years.
He's been around forever, but he's averaging one to fifty
eighty game on his own, twelve touchdowns. They've got twenty
on the ground, two sixty two per game on the ground.
As a team, they'll line up and run it. They'll
continue to run it, and then if you stop the run,
(37:57):
they'll do what they did to Marshall County. They'll throw
a bunch of screen passes, get out on the edge
and try to get things going that way. Graves County,
it's been a struggle on offense this season, no doubt
about it. Sixty eight yards passing per game, one touchdown,
three picks, seventy eight yards rushing per game, seven rushing touchdowns.
They want to run the football. They feel like their
(38:18):
best chance each and every week is to run the football.
Madisonville has got two guys on the line that are
gonna have something to say about that. And that's been
again a little bit of a problem for Graves this year.
But this is this is a week, this is a
big you know, you're not expected to win. If your Graves,
I'm picking them because I always pick Graves and I
always will. Graves County did win this game the last
(38:39):
two years. They won it two years ago, twenty to
fourteen at Madisonville should have won it by forty, but
a lot of funny, funky things happened. And then last
season it was the monsoon game. Remember when the remnants
of the hurricane were coming through and it was just
pouring down rain, a sloppy mess. Madisonville likes to run
(39:00):
the football. It should have favored Madisonville and Graves County
won that game nineteen nothing. So they've had their number
since being in the same district with the Maroons. Can
they do it tonight? Can they go pull that up? So?
Can they go prove what I think? They're actually a
good football team with a really bad run to start
the year. Or does this look like it had did
(39:23):
last week? I don't think so. I think this is
gonna be a competitive football game. I love my Eagles.
Let's go Eagles, but they're not the favorite, make no
mistake about it, all right. So I've got South Fulton
beating Ballard. I've got Lake County I'm sorry, Fulton County
over Lake County, Tilman over Scott's Tights, Mayfield over Todd
County Central both those games big. I've got Murray beating
(39:47):
McCracken County, Logan County falls at I'm sorry, Callway County
falls at Logan County, Marshall County goes gets to win
at Paradise, and Graves County gets a win at Madisonville.
That's it for the show. Enjoy the games, enjoy the weekend.
We'll be back on Monday to see how we did.
Until then, this has been Region won Sports
