Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one Sports Report with Brian York
on ninety nine to five. The fare and Away we
go on a Monday. It is your Monday, September twenty ninth.
That is shit of the Region one Sports Report. I'm
Brian York. I hope you're doing well and made it
safely through the weekend. I hope you enjoyed whatever game
you were at wherever you were, and again had a

(00:28):
great weekend and are ready and rested for a brand
new work week. But don't worry. Fall break is next week,
and if you're like me, you take advantage of fall break.
My vacations come with the kids are out of school,
so I'm off next week. Hollylujah. Go into my favorite
place in the absolute world, little Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Action next week,
that's right. Not the beach, No, No, we go to

(00:49):
the mountains and I am looking forward to that. Hey,
And by the way, you can get in touch with
us here on the show on our social media platforms
on x at Region one Sports on Facebook, at Region
one Sports Report on Instagram. I think I think we're there,
We're still there. I know we're there, or you can
text us two seven h five, three, four, forty three eight.

(01:11):
Those are all the ways you can reach out and
get in contact with us here at Region one Sports. Alrighty,
then got a big one today. We got a recap
last week's football games. Had a had a doozy? Did
we over at Murray and McCracken fifty nine to fifty six?
We'll just get that out of the way. Holy cow, Like,

(01:31):
couldn't wrap my brain around what I was seeing Friday
night from Murray and McCracken. And well, of course we'll
get into that today. Other football scores and things we
saw from around the region, and plenty more here on
Region one a jam pack show, as always before we do.
I'm trying really hard to get awake. I really am.
You know the proverbial struggle bus. Not only did it

(01:51):
come to my house today, it came. It's empty. It's
just me and I'm just running around like a mad man.
I am doing everything I can. I am chugging a
new kickstart. I've splashed cold water on my face. I'm
just I'm just out of it today, lethargic. Can't get
can't get my brain going. That's the worst part. I
think my body's fine. I don't feel like I need
to go back to sleep or anything. I don't feel

(02:12):
like I'm sleepy. I just cannot get my brain activated
this morning, which is most days. It's most days, let's
be honest, but certainly having a little trouble getting getting
things rolling this morning. I think part of that is
it's Monday. It's you know, the last week before a
little bit of a break in fall breaks, or it's
kind of like that senior itis. And I gotta go

(02:33):
to the dentist today. And don't get me wrong, I
love my dentist. I love my dentist. He is he's
actually a fan of the show, and I love that.
So it's not going it's not going to that dentist.
It's just the whole going to the dentist. It's just
a teeth cleaning, which I don't you know, it's fine.
I just not my favorite thing to do in the world.
But I also think I have a cavity maybe two,

(02:55):
maybe three, So there's that. It's just that's just not
the way you want to start your Monday. And it'll
be fine. It's always fine. The tea cleaning goes great.
Like I said, love my dentists, love all the people
that work there, they're phenomenal. But just I mean, it's Monday.
Why didn't I make the appointment for at least Wednesday?
Why didn't I like, why did I make it for

(03:16):
a little later in the week so I don't have
to start my Monday with the thing that we all
enjoy going to the dentist. So that might be part
of it. And it might just be that I don't
think I sleep. I just don't think I sleep anymore.
Just constantly on the go, constantly having something to do,
something to stress me out. That's life, right, that's life
for all of us. But I don't know, just can't
get the brain going this morning. It might kick in,

(03:37):
Like I said, I'm chugging mountain new kickstart, So I
might go from lethargic here in the first segment to
ninety miles an hour by the time we get halfway
through the show, at least, I'm hoping. So all right,
now to the meat of the show, to the heart
of the show, to what we do on Region one
sports scores. We start there. We start with scores from
the weekend. We have soccer scores and volleyball scores from

(03:59):
the week we'll review that see if anything stood out,
and then we'll move into our Monday morning QB where
we will recap, retrace, and review what happened on Friday
night in week six of the football season. That's right, children,
we are in week seven now of the high school
football season. That is insane. I mean it's September twenty ninth.

(04:21):
We have two days away until October officially crazy crazy.
So without further ado, let's do that thing we do.
Let's talk high school sports. Let's go over scores from
around the region on the weekend. We'll go back to
just Saturday for soccer and volleyball. That's the latest we'll
get caught up there. So for soccer. In boys soccer,

(04:41):
Murray remains unbeaten as they beat Henderson County for one.
On Saturday Saint Saint Louis University out of you guessed
at Saint Louis, Missouri. They beat McCracken County for one,
and Warren Central beat Callaway County two nil. That's boys soccer.
On Saturday, girls soccer had Calloway County over one Central

(05:01):
thirteen nil, Greenwood beat Marshall County one nil, and Hopkinsville
took down Mayfield five two. That is girls soccer on Saturday.
Volleyball from a Saturday, and let me make sure I
guy there, it is volleyball from Saturday. Adair County beat
Graves County to nothing, Caudwall County over CFS three nothing,

(05:23):
Etown beat Graves County to nothing, Lexington Catholic beat McCracken
County to nothing. McCracken County then beat Bowling Green to nothing,
and they beat Scott County to nothing. So that's your volleyball.
You had a Air over Graves, Caudwell over CFS, Etown
over Graves, Lexington Catholic, excuse me over McCracken, and then

(05:45):
McCracken over Bowling Green and Scott County. Graves County did
get a win. No, I'm sorry, I don't know if
they got a win. That's still not been reported. So
Graves County did play Madison Central. Don't know what happened there.
I'm sure someone will tell us, all right, but that's
our scores. That's our look back. Happened around the region
on a Saturday. Did anything stand out, anything catch our eye?

(06:05):
Anything moving the needle? Not not really kind of all
chalk kind of all chalk. You know, we were talking
on Friday and I mentioned that soccer district tournament starts
when we get back from fall break. It actually starts
fall break. I knew that. I just brain fart. It
looked weird to me. I knew as soon as I
said it it was wrong. But this is the last
week of the regular season for soccer. This is you know,

(06:29):
I talk a lot in football about hey, like week five,
Week six, you are who you are and soccer you
are who you are. Like there's no it's just can
you do something? Can you put something together to make
a run of the postseason in spite of, or do
to the great regular season you had? And if you

(06:49):
look at how things stand as we go into the
final week of the regular season, like I said earlier,
on the boys side, Murray still unbeaten, sixteen oh to one.
Then you've got Callaoai County eight six and one, Marshall
County is ten eight and one, McCracken County eleven five
and three. Those are the only teams with a winning
record right now. So Murray out front, you'd put McCracken

(07:12):
at number two. You've got probably Marshall at number three,
Callaway there at number you know, four, but right there
with Marshall, Mayfield is five and eight on the season,
Paduca Tilman two nine and one, Graves County two ten
and one. So again, though on the boys side, everybody's
chasing Murray. On the girl's side, if you look at it,

(07:35):
Calloy County sixteen and one. Their lone loss was in
the Kentucky two eight Championships, so sixteen and one. Marshall
County right there behind them fourteen three and one. McCracken
County is eight six and one, Murray is seven four
and one. Again, only teams winning winning records. Then you've

(07:55):
got Paduca Tilman at four and eight, Mayfield at three
and twelve, Graves County at two and eight. It is
kind of insane that on both the boys and girls
side we have the same amount of teams with a
winning record and the same amount of teams with a
losing record. Even more insane when you look at it
it's the same schools. It's the same school the same
schools with a winning record on each side, and the
same schools have a losing record on each side. It's

(08:17):
just shook out that way, I guess. But that is
where things stand in our final week of soccer before
we start district play while most of us are on vacation.
Even though I'll be on vacation, you know how I'll be.
I'll be keeping up with all the action. I'll be
at least tuned into the scores, so I have an
idea of what's going on when I get back from
fall break. And by the way, you can keep me informed.

(08:41):
The text line will still be open at two seven
h five three four forty three eight, So don't be shy.
I may be on vacation, but you can still text
that number in UH and get in touch with us
and keep us informed. So, okay, that's soccer and volleyball
from the weekend. What about football from the weekend? Week
six of the football season in the books, Let's give

(09:03):
you the scores. We'll come back after the break and
we will break them down and talk about them, give
you stats and everything we've got here on a Monday,
So scores from the weekend. Scores from Friday. In week
six of the football season. He had Paduka Tilman beating
Ally County Scottsville forty eight to seven, Mayfield over Todd
County Central sixty three nothing. Yep, Matdisonville took down Graves

(09:25):
County in overtime twenty three to twenty, Marshall County over
Milnberg County twenty three to twenty one, Logan County beat
Callaway County fifty one, thirteen. You had let's see Lake County,
Tennessee over Fulton County forty seven, thirty four. South Fulton,
Tennessee beat Ballad Memorial forty one nothing, and Murray over

(09:46):
McCracken fifty nine fifty six. That one was the marquee
game and it lived up to it, fifty nine to
fifty six Tigers. Those are your scores. We'll take a break,
we'll come back. We'll break them down right here on
Region one. And there were some things going on in
sports today that will make your brain fall out of
your skull. You were listening to the Region one Sports

(10:06):
Report on ninety nine to five. The fan and all
of girly say, I'm pretty fly for a white guys
reaching one sports as we roll along here, Yes, and
I'm pretty fly for a why guy. And we roll
along on your Monday edition of the show, we have

(10:28):
to talk Week six of the football season and we
gave you scores earlier. Let's get into it. Let's deep
dive in to what really went down on Friday night.
Let's start with the shootout Murray over McCracken County fifty
nine fifty six. This one was wild, just keeping up
with the scoring. Unbelievable game. You had McCracken County with

(10:50):
like six hundred and seven yards of total offense. I'm sorry,
Murray had six hundred and seven yards of total offense.
McCracken had five hundred and forty yards of total offense.
The defenses apparently just said we're gonna check out tonight
and we're gonna let the offenses do their thing. Unbelievable
what those offenses did back and forth all night long

(11:11):
to end up with a fifty nine to fifty six score. Wow. Now,
obviously I wasn't there. We'll get to my game in
a moment moment, because this game was an offensive shootout.
My game was a defensive juggernaut. So nice to see
the compare and contrast in those two games. But this
one first, I wasn't there, obviously, But mister Steve Springer,

(11:32):
friend of the show and the employee of the Murray
Ledger in Times was there and I will share his
words on it. So if you're ready for that, let's
do that, he says in the start of his article.
In one of the wildest offensive shootouts a fan can experience,
Murray top mccranken County fifty nine to fifty six Friday
to remain unbeaten. The two teams combined for one hundred

(11:52):
and fifteen points, an amazing display of tit for tat
offensive punches, which should realistically give the game ball to
the scoreboard operator. Yes, yes, yes they should. Multiple players
had big nights. I'll do the stats in a moment.
I'll move on though, with the game flow here from
the article, he says the teams would take turns, scoring
from most the entire game, McCracken drawing first blood, marching

(12:14):
down the field and scoring on a thirty five yard
touchdown connection from quarterback Mattox O'Neill to match him, answering
immediately by. Murray's first drive kept off with Robbins finding
Martin in the front right corner of the end zone
for a thirty three yard hookup to tie the game
seven to seven with six oh four remaining in the quarter.
Chapman would punch it in from twelve yards out less
than three minutes later and give Murray their first lead

(12:36):
fourteen to seven. After the first quarter would end. So
McCracken strikes first thirty five yard connection there from O'Neill
to one of his receivers. Murray comes back with a
thirty three yard connection from quarterback to receiver or tied
at seven, and then Murray gets a lead fourteen to
seven going into the second quarter. He goes on to

(12:57):
say a Mustang drive would culminate on the first play
of the period with another excuse me, oh neil Matcham
connection for a thirteen yard touchdown through the air. That
drive was answered by Murray again when sophomore lineman Ryan
Walls would bulldoze his way through the McCracken county line
for a one yard touchdown plunge to take the score
twenty one to fourteen when nine to nineteen left until halftime,

(13:19):
So again, just a few minutes in, Murray McCracken comes
back and ties to the game at fourteen. Murray then
gets the ball and says no, no, and they take
a twenty one to fourteen lead. However, McCracken would come
back and tie it twenty one to twenty one on
their next possession. Then here comes the Tigers. A forty
one yard bomb from Robbins to Martin from midfield would

(13:42):
again find Martin, who would step into the center of
the end zone. The Mustangs would counter nineteen seconds later,
So again Murray gets another lead, twenty eight to twenty one.
Nineteen seconds slater. McCracken ties at twenty eight twenty eight,
and then what does Murray do. They get another lead
a four yard run from Robbins on the ground thirty
five to twenty eight with fifty one and a half

(14:02):
seconds left before going into the halftime locker room. Wow,
so let's catch our breasts. McCracken takes the first lead
of the game, Murray comes back and ties it. Murray, though,
then gets a stop, a rare defensive stop in this game,
a rare possession where neither team scored, and then Murray

(14:22):
takes advantage by scoring to get the lead fourteen to seven.
McCracken ties it fourteen fourteen. Murray gets a lead twenty
one to fourteen. McCracken ties it at twenty one. Murray
goes up twenty eight twenty one, McCracken ties it at
twenty eight, and then Murray takes a thirty five to
twenty eight lead into the halftime break. I mean, unbelieve
that's a ballgame for most people. We're at halftime and

(14:46):
you already know the final score, so you already know
we are halfway there. Literally on the scoreboard. Five minutes
out of the locker room, he says, Chapman would score
on a third and goal from the Mustang one yard
line to put the Tigers up forty two to twenty eight.
That'd be the largest lead of the game for either team,
by the way, a two touchdown lead. This is where
and if I'm being honest, I got this update. Like

(15:08):
I had been checking, and i'd kind of checking but
not really paying attention. You know how that goes. But
I get this update and I go, okay, like I'm
surprised McCracken is going blow for blow. But at forty
two to twenty eight, right out of the halftime break,
I thought, this is where they separate. This is where
Murray's now gonna you know, forty two twenty eight, They're

(15:29):
gonna get another score, They're gonna their defense is gonna
finally step up and this is gonna be a three
to four touchdown win for Murray. This is where they
pull away. And that's both based on how things have
gone to the season so far for both teams. But
to their credit, that's not what happened for McCracken County.
Less than a minute later, O'Neill would steal the momentum

(15:51):
back with a seventy yard touchdown completion to Jude Lanier
to bring the Mustangs back within a touchdown. So again,
Murray go up two scores. This time McCracken doesn't tie it,
but they do come back get it to one score.
Murray would come right back, because that's how this game goes.
Robbins would find senior receiver Josh Bridges Junior on a

(16:12):
three yard dart over the middle into the end zone
forty nine to thirty five with four point fifty six
left in the third quarter. Wow. Man. O'Neill would hit
match him again though on the next possession and two
minutes later to end the third quarter to get them
back within a score. So forty nine forty two is

(16:32):
your score at the end of the third quarter. Now,
he goes on to say in the article. With the
Tigers nursing a seven point lead, their opening drive of
the fourth quarter stalled at the Mustang seventeen yard line,
Franzo would step in and step up again, continuing his
unblemish night, drilling the twenty seven yard field goal with

(16:53):
seven to fifty three left in the clock. It's just
amazing with all these points, there was a field goal,
and by the way, the finals score came down to
a three point Murray win. One could argue this was
the most important field goal of the night. One could
argue the most important drive for Murray was getting a
field goal in a game where they're scoring touchdown after touchdown,

(17:16):
and that's what happened. Here twenty seven yarder. Murray extends
their lead to ten, right, yeah, fifty two to forty two.
Then here comes McCracken County. They would score with just
over two minutes later after that field goal. So seven
to fifty three is when Murray hit the field goal.
So about you know, the five and a half minute mark,

(17:39):
McCracken comes back as Landon Newman scores the touchdown and
now now you've got a fifty two to forty nine
Murray lead. Now Murray is only up three. Now they're
clinging to that three point lead. Springer then says in
the article the game seemed to have the feel of
whoever made a big mistake first was going to lose.
With two twenty three left, Chapman would score again, this

(18:02):
time over a McCraken County defender and straight up the
Mustangs cut from the three yard line, seemingly giving all
the women under the Tigers and possibly I seen the
game with a ten point lead fifty nine to forty nine,
but we know how this game has gone so far.
The Mustangs refuse to go quietly into that Paduca night,
as he says in the article, and had yet another

(18:23):
score immediately Immediately, the Murray kickoff would find its way
in the hands of Lanier, who would find himself dodging
tackles and racing ninety yards down the right side for
pey dirt and cut the Murray lead again to fifty
nine fifty six with two oh eight remaining. A misdirection

(18:44):
fake on sidekick would sell over Murray players heads to
back near the Tiger red zone, which the Tigers would recover,
needing a first down to put the Mustangs out to
pasture for good. On second and one, Chapman would get
that one yard run and forty eight more as he
ran around the tied end of the Murray offensive line
for a forty nine yard game to let the Tigers

(19:05):
kneel out the clock in victory formation and remain undefeated. Whoo, man,
I wasn't there. I'm fatigued from that. And again you
go back to the field goal in a game where
it was touchdown after touchdown and big play after big play,
and this team scores and this team answers that field

(19:26):
goal from Fronzo with seven fifty three left in the game.
That's the ball game. That's the difference. That's where things
are won in the end for Murray. Unbelievable. And the
fact that McCracken had no quit. The fact that McCracken
again a ninety yard touchdown run on a kickoff return

(19:47):
to put you down three and give you a chance
at home. Come on, now, give it up for the muss. Thanks,
give it up for the muss things. So we're gon
we're gonna sing Murray's praises in a moment, but give
it up for McCracken County, because this is a team
This is a team that a few weeks ago lost
to Mayfield thirty nine to three. They should have lost
to Mayfield. Mayfield's better, but thirty nine to three a

(20:09):
game in which the offense had nothing going for it,
a game in which I mean, there have been teams
that have played Mayfield this year and not scored much
but had better offensive outport outpourings. In that game against Mayfield,
McCracken County had seventy three passing yards in the air
and only one hundred rushing yards. And Maddox O'Neill in

(20:30):
that game was not good. Let's just be honest, was
not good. Eleven of twenty five forty one yards, one pick,
no touchdowns, eleven of twenty five forty one yards. Just
three weeks ago they play Union County, and Union County
was the let's get right game, and they did. And
that game O'Neill goes twenty of twenty eight three seventeen,

(20:51):
three touchdowns. And then you come out against maybe the
best opponent left on your schedule. I mean, you've got
Henderson County coming up, but they're not quite Henderson County
as we're used to. But then you come out again
three weeks after an ugly offensive performance against Mayfield, and

(21:13):
you have this kind of performance, a fifty six point
performance against one of the best teams left on your
schedule and one of the best teams in the state
of Kentucky period, and you go for three hundred and
seven yards, five touchdowns in the air, no picks. That's
a heck of a turnaround. That's impressive for O'Neill and
for that Mustang offense. Even in a loss. There are

(21:33):
no more victories. I get that, but you can still
learn lessons, and I think we've learned that even in
the face of defeat. McCraken County's not dead. They're not gone.
They're not out of this thing yet. Still a lot
of season left, and they've got a lot left in
the tank. Clearly, as for Murray, unbelievable to go on

(21:54):
the road to get that kind of performance from your
opponent at their place and still find a way to
put up sixty points essentially in the ballgame and get
the win. Seventeen to twenty three for Robbins, four eleven,
three touchdowns, no picks, forty five rushes as a team
for two point fifty six on the ground and five
more rushing touchdowns, Gates Chapman with eleven carries for one

(22:19):
to eighteen and three touchdowns, scorching a six to a defense,
and they stay unbeaten. And by the way, and I'll
tell you what, we'll talk about this after the break.
I gotta take one. Can they remain unbeaten? We'll get
into that more when we come back. It's Region one,
Region one Sports, the best in the West. Region one Sports.

(22:54):
Our final segment here on your Monday edition of the show.
So we were talking that classic mccrack County and Murray
High game on Friday night, which just had to be
so much fun to be at, so much fun. Fifty
nine to fifty six. Murray remains unbeaten with a win
over McCracken County. And they remain unbeaten against McCracken County

(23:14):
for the third time in school history. They have played
each other now three consecutive seasons. Murray is now three
and zero. So there you go. Now the question does
remain Ken Murray now run it out? Ken Murray now
finish off the regular season undefeated. Yes, because this week
they get Webster County and I know that's on the road,
but you're gonna win that game, just saying. Then you

(23:37):
come back after fall break with Union County. They're not
the same Union County team. It's a Union County team
that McCracken County beat forty nine to twenty five. So
you gotta feel pretty good about that. And it is
it's on the road, not an easy fun place to go,
but it is a game that you should win. Hopkins
County Central they're not very good, and then Cardwall County

(23:58):
they're good this year. Cardwall Cow he's good. Their strength
of schedule not as good as yours. And they lost
to a Union County big that's their only loss so
far this season. So again, you feel pretty good about that.
So yeah, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it.
I think Murray does run the table. That has no
effect on the postseason. That just means you're gonna run
the table. Does that mean you're gonna win a three
eight state championship? I don't know. But as far as

(24:20):
your regular season, what's left in your schedule in your district, Yeah,
you're gonna go unbeaten. You are, that's just you should.
If you don't, then something went horribly wrong. I'll just
put it that way, just being real, just being real.
As for McCracken County and where they go from here,
well you gotta have a lot of confidence. That's two
weeks in a row. Their offense has been absolutely rolling.

(24:41):
I mean, they've had three games this season where they
put up sixty five, forty nine, and fifty six points.
So that could be trouble for some future opponents. They
get Hopkinsville this week. Hopkinsville's not great. They're three and
what three, So they're not They're not great. That's a
winnable football game. It's on the road. I get it
on the road, but you should go get that game.

(25:03):
Christian County's terrible this season. They even have a new coach.
They're fifth coach in six years, which is crazy. Actually
it's their sixth coach and now six years because it's
an interim, which is crazy. Henderson County on the road
will still be tough. Look, they're not you know, quote
unquote Henderson County like you've seen in the past. They're
still good. They're still good. I mean they I don't know,

(25:26):
I am concerned. They beat a bad Davis County team
seven to six. Yikes, but they're still good. But you
should go on the road and get that win this year.
You should. And then Graves County that'll be a game
where we see a very good defense take on what
is a very good offense. It's at Graves, but we'll
see how that goes. So from here, you gotta feel

(25:47):
good about the Mustangs. They're at two wins now two
and four, but man, they've got at least two three
four that. I mean, they could win out, get four
more wins. They could end up with with six wins
here in the regular season. They could we'll see, all right,
Moving on other games, other scores, other things. From Friday night,
I told you there'd be some blowouts. I mean tillmanover

(26:07):
Allen County Scotts Full, I mean it was thirty five
nothing at the end of the first quarter. That had
to be fun. That had to be fun. Mayfield over
Todd County Central sixty three nothing. I think that game
was thirty five nothing at the end the first quarter.
I mean, there's just nothing you can talk about there.
I mean, there's just not Those are just as expected,
all chalk all blowout all. You know, just get the

(26:31):
win quickly and get on with your life and That's
what happened with those two games. On Friday, unfortunately, Baaler
Memorial gets shut out again, this time they lose to
South Fulton, Tennessee. You start to ask the question, can
baalor Memorial get in the win column, And to be
honest with you, I don't know. I don't know, I
don't think so I'm rooting for it. I don't want
to see it happen, but I don't know. Man Like,

(26:53):
if you look at their remaining schedule, you know, at
one point you felt good about Russellville, which is who
you've got coming up Friday. But they've least been scoring
points and Ballard hasn't. And that's concerning. Ballard has only
scored six points and seven points since the first week
of the football season. They've been shut out three times,

(27:14):
putting up six against Callaway and seven against Charleston, Missouri
in blowout losses. It's concerning. Then they've got Fulton County
and they're better. They're better than Ballad. Fulton still winless,
but they're better than Ballard. Right now, Caverna is not good,
but again they score points. And then Milnberg County is
better this season, so it's gonna be tough rooting for it,
but man, it's getting harder. Fulton County lost again, but

(27:37):
they're scoring points. And then, as I just mentioned, Milnerberg
County they had a very good win with Marshall County
on Friday night twenty three to twenty one. The Marshalls
do get the win, they do survive, they do go
to paradise and come back at least with a w.
Another game where it was run heavy. This time it
was Colton wins it. Colton wins it goes twenty carries

(27:59):
for ninety three yards. As a team they went thirty
seven carries for two to twenty four in a touchdown.
Jessic in the air was nineteen of twenty eight with
one eighty eight, two touchdowns and one pick. This was
a game again that was very much back and forth
in a low scoring fashion, tied at seven after the
first quarter of play and then it was fourteen to

(28:21):
fourteen at halftime. Marshall County ended up with a field
goal in the third quarter to take a seventeen to
fourteen lead. Jessic hit Brown on a touchdown pass in
the fourth quarter to take a twenty three fourteen lead.
Muhlenberg though, would come back a couple of minutes later
and make it twenty three to twenty one, but Marshall
would hold on and get the win twenty three to

(28:42):
twenty one. They sort of escaped Meehlenberg with the win.
But a win's a win, and Marshall County in that
win column for the now third time this season, they
have been a proverbial three win team. Is there a
fourth win out there? You have Owensboro Graves pollowing Callaway
coming up now. Listen, Graves County's defense and Graves was

(29:04):
very impressive on Friday night. We'll talk about that in
a moment. I don't think that's I think that's fifty
to fifty. I think right now it's more flip a
coin than anybody being a favorite. But Graves has had
the extended win streak in that series, and so you
favor them a little bit. You're not gonna beat Owensboro
on the road. You might get Apollo at home, and

(29:25):
I think now you have a chance to get Callaway
County on the road. So yeah, this is a three
win team that could could get three more. Could there's
a path to it. I don't think they will. I
don't think it's likely. I don't think six wins is
gonna happen with the remaining schedule. That would give them six,
which would be a winning record for the first time
since twenty eleven. But it's at least still in front

(29:47):
of them, and you got to give them credit for that,
you do, You got to give them credit for that.
I think they will end up with at least four.
I think they'll get over that three win hump. They've
been a three win team forever. Can they get to
five at this point, I'm leaning yes, I am. I
don't think six, but I think they certainly can get
to five. And then, speaking of their future opponent, Graves County,

(30:10):
what a game, what an effort. On Friday Night, Graves
County goes to Madisonville, a team that is unbeaten, still unbeaten,
a team that knocked off Paduka Tillman at Madisonville just
a couple of weeks ago, and they go blow for
blow with Madisonville in a defensive performance of a lifetime.
I mean, they were phenomenal defensively. This was a three

(30:32):
to nothing game. After the first quarter three nothing, Madisonville
settled for a field goal Madisonville's offense has been really good.
They settle for a field goal three nothing. Madisonville does
get a touchdown with eleven zho nine left in the
second quarter. It's ten to nothing. Graves came back kind
of field goal a couple of minutes later, and it's
ten to three. You're in the fight, You're in the game.

(30:53):
Madisonville gets another score though, at two forty one remaining,
and they take a seventeen to three lead into the
halftime break. So I want you to and reflect right there.
This game ends up being twenty three to twenty, Madisonville winning,
but it was seventeen to three at the halftime break.
Graves's offense has struggled this season. It's just been reality.
They've played great teams, but they have struggled against great teams.

(31:16):
Their defense has given them a chance. But seventeen to
three at half just felt like this game's over. It
just had that feel to it. I mean, it's seventeen
to three, it's what It's a two score game at
this point. Man, it just feels like such an uphill climb,
especially in this game. And then a pick six with
nine to twenty left in the fourth quarter, both teams scoreless.

(31:37):
In the third quarter, Graves County gets a pick six
from Wilson Thomas twenty five yard return seventeen to ten.
Uh oh, Graves County's got a little life. And then
in the fourth quarter, Graves County moved the football, got
it down inside the red zone, and then Peyton scored
on a one yard run. We're tied at seventeen with

(31:59):
four thirty remaining, and that ends up being your final
score of regulation. So we tie. We go to ot
tied at seventeen. So Graves County down seventeen three at
the half. In a great defensive effort, just down seventeen
to three, holds Madisonville, this juggernaut of an offense and
teams have struggled with them this year. They hold them

(32:22):
scoreless in the third and fourth quarter. Unbelievable overtime would begin.
Graves County would get the ball first at the ten
yard line. They would end up settling for the field goal.
They would put it back on their defense, who had
to be gassed. Time of possession had to be had
to be eighty five percent in favor of Madisonville. They

(32:43):
had the football a long time in this game and
they come out first play. Unfortunately, they punch it in,
they scored the touchdown, They win twenty three to twenty.
Now Graves had other opportunities towards the end of regulation.
They ended up throwing a pick an interception in the
end zone. So I think it was third and goal.
And again, if you kind of play it safe or

(33:06):
don't throw the pick, don don't turn it over, you
might get a field goal there. And if you get
a field goal there the way this game ended, you
get a twenty to seventeen win. Instead, they do throw
it on third down, they do throw an interception. It
gives the football back to Madisonville. Now, no harm, no foul.
Madisonville did not score on that ensuing possession, but the
turnover did prevent you from getting points of any kind,

(33:28):
and in a game like this, any any points was welcome,
and that's what eventually takes you into overtime. And unfortunately
Madisonville does win it in overtime. But again, what an
effort from Graves County. I don't have their stats in
this one. Again, the offense wasn't great. Again, it was good,
not great, had some moments, had some big play moments,
but their defense did their job. Madisonville was held to

(33:50):
one hundred and eighty six yards rushing. They averaged nearly
three hundred yards rushing a game. They were held to
one to eighty six on forty four carries, by the way,
and three rushing touchdown tih Tower, Who's a beast, twenty
four carries eighty three yards. He did get two scores.
But I thought Graves defense was great. Now they gave
up some of the passing game. You know again, Madisonville,

(34:12):
I think more in an effort to get Graves to
unpack the box went vertical. It worked most for the
most part. They were twelve of twenty for one to
seventy five, but didn't get a score in the year
and one interception ended up being a pick six. What
an effort from Graves County. You're out to one of
the worst starts you've had in just such a long time.

(34:33):
But we keep telling people they're not a bad team.
They've played a tough schedule, They're not necessarily a bad team.
They've just had just not haven't played great yet, haven't
played good yet. They've had moments. Their defense has showed
up most weeks. Though the defense has been good. It
was great on Friday. Now they have winnable games coming up.
They have Apollo coming up on the road. That's a

(34:55):
winnable football game. After Friday's performance, you almost expect to
go on the road now and get that win. Marshall
County when we get back from the break again, that's
tougher this season, but that's a winnable game. Mulenberg County
at home. Tougher this season, but it's at home winnable game.
McCracken County was winnable now. It looks like they might
be the favorite, but you still have opportunity to left.

(35:16):
If you're Graves County, a one win team right now,
you still have a chance to potentially win out, probably not,
but potentially and rattle off and get to four or
five wins on the season, which would be great, which
would not match one of your worst seasons in a
long time. It actually pull you up to where this
team was just a few years ago before they turned
things back around and got back on the winning side

(35:38):
of things. When a five win team is one of
your worst teams in a long time, you're a pretty
good program. And they got a chance to at least
get back to that. What a game on Friday night,
What a weekend it was, What a show it's been.
We're out of time, we're out of topic. I hope
you've enjoyed. We'll be back on Wednesday. Until then, this
