advantage of that, and I am very very happy about that.
Thank you. You could also connect with us on social
media on x or Twitter, whatever you want to call

(00:53):
Region one Sports Report, so find us there as well. Again,
how you doing on this Wednesday. I hope you had
a very good three day holiday weekend. Hope your Labor
Day was well. I don't know if you know this,
but in most cases you can still grill in September.
You don't have to stop grilling just because Labor Day
weekend is over. You can continue to grill, and then

(01:16):
if you want to invite me over, you can do
that as well. That's just a public service announcement, so
those things don't have to end if you don't want
them to. A fantastic weather by the way, and I
do know that we have some burn bands in place,
which is always like always terrible this time of year,
Like this is the time of the year. I want
to break out the fire pit. This is the time
of the year. I want to set outside and enjoy

(01:38):
a small fire and an adult beverage and just watch
the sun go down. I can't do that because I'm
all over the place, either running and watching my kids
play sports or going and cover in the games.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I am.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
But when I do have a night or an evening
or an afternoon at home, the fire pit sounds nice,
and then these burn bands are kicking in. It's just, man,
what a lovely weather season we've had of either getting
flooded out or droughted out, no in between. There is, however,
a chance of rain. It looks like in the forecast
for tomorrow, it looks like in the forecast for Friday

(02:14):
and maybe Saturday, although not a big chance so we'll
see here's to hoping fingers crossed. Nonetheless, fall sports fully underway.
We've got a lot to get into. As always today,
not having a show on Monday means we've got to
play Monday morning quarterback and get caught up on all
of the scores and games from last Friday. And then

(02:35):
because it's Wednesday, we gotta look ahead to this Friday. So,
like I said, a lot to get into. So without
further ado, let's do that thing that we do. Let's
talk high school sports here on Region one Sports. So
let's first go over scores and things from your Tuesday
in soccer and volleyball, and then we'll go back and
revisit football from your Friday. So last night's scores not

(02:59):
a lot on the docket. In boys soccer, you had
Calloway County over Mayfield nine to four, Murray stays unbeaten
with a win over Mighty Marshall County three nil. In
girls soccer, Calloway County stays unbeaten with a win over
Mayfield eight nil, and Marshall County beats Murray two nil.
I'm telling you there are some good girls soccer in

(03:20):
this region. Those teams at the top. It's been a
lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
That's it. That's it for soccer.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
By the way, volleyball last night in the two A
sectional volleyball tournament, you had Webster County over Murray High
three to one, and other scores in volleyball, Carlisle County
over Hickman County three nothing, Fulton County over Fulton City
three nothing, Livings in Central beat CFS three to two,
and Mayfield over Graves County three.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
One, which, by the way, is.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Just the second all time win for Mayfield over Graves
in volleyball, which is insane.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
That's a crazy stat.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
So just the second time ever, and this information coming
via the text machine again that number is two seven
h five three four forty three eight, but just the
second time ever that Mayfield has beat Graves in volleyball,
the first time they've ever done it at Mayfield. So

(04:18):
there you go. The more you know and knowledge is power. Mayfield,
by the way, just one loss in the volleyball season
so far. They've got a pretty good team over there.
If you haven't been paying attention, let's see one, two, three,
eighty four five. They're five and one. They're only lost
to Ballard, who's also pretty good at volleyball. They're they're
pretty good. And so again that win over Graves County.

(04:39):
And I'm looking at the head to head matchups here
over the years they've been playing. Since two thousand and five,
they did not Mayfield, that is, did not get a
win in the series until last season. They beat Graves
last year in September and then this year in September.
So there you go, Wow, that's crazy. What a streak

(05:02):
that was until two thousand. From two thousand and five
to twenty twenty four, Graves County had not lost a
volleyball game to Mayfield and now have lost two. Graves
it is has now lost two of their last four meetings.
So that's an insane number. That's kind of crazy. And
you know, you can sit here all day long and
talk about rivalries. It's not a rivalry if you're never

(05:22):
getting a win in the series. Now it's a rivalry
because now it's been competitive, and now Mayfield has scored
some wins and now you can look at that as
as more of a rivalry than it ever was before.
So Mayfield gets to win. By the way, that's the
first loss of the season for Graves County. They were
three to oh going into that matchup, and they had
beat Ballard and again Ballard's good. So volleyball this season

(05:44):
starting to take form and starting to see some teams
kind of rise to the top there and some teams suffer,
unfortunately their first loss of the season.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
So there you go, a little volleyball on your Wednesday.
So what else stood out from those scores?

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Well, how about in soccer and boys soccer specifically, Murray
High stays unbeaten. Remember Murray High lost just one game
in the regular season last year en route to a
regional title, only two losses total on the season, winning
the region and then losing Todavi's County in the first
round of the state soccer tournament. So far this season,

(06:19):
so good for coach Rosa and his tigers. They are
still unbeaten. One tie on the year to Owensboro and
they again kind of like last season, a lot of
lopsided scores and a lot of shutouts. They've had eight
games or eight matches whatever's proper end soccer, so eight
so far this season they are seven to zero to one.

(06:40):
They have allowed three goals total so far. A six
to one win over Webster County, a seven to one
win over Mayfield, a three to one win over Callaway.
Those are the only teams that have scored on them,
and even those games have been fairly lopsided. Shutout Graves
eight to nil, shutout Apollo for nil. Their closest game
was to County in the two A sectional that was

(07:02):
a one nil game, and then Marshall County beating them
three nil. Marshall, by the way, just their second loss
of the season. They lost one nil to McCracken County
and now to Murray. You still consider and I would
still consider Marshall in the running for a regional contender.
McCracken obviously, but Murray clearly the favorite again this season

(07:22):
in soccer. And it's even more amazing when you consider
that they lost what one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight,
eight seniors off of that team last season's It's tough
in soccer to lose eight guys, eight seniors. I don't
care what their role was, I don't care what their
stats were. When you lose eight seniors, you typically don't
come back necessarily as good or better. And I'm not

(07:45):
saying this team is necessarily better than last year's team.
Last your's team may still be the better team between
the two, but they've come back clearly as good and
clearly in the front running to win another regional title.
So good on Murray as they get off to a
great start and a great win over Marshall County. On
the girl's side, last night, Marshall got a good win

(08:08):
over Murray High. They flipped the script. Murray's now lost
two straight, losing to Callowe and Marshall. That's rough Murray
out to a great start to start the year. Now
I have lost two in a row. But again they
lost one nil to Callaway, who right now, right now
is the best girls team in the region, and then
two nil to Marshall County, who perennially is the best
girls team in the region. Marshall's lone loss so far

(08:31):
on the girl's side is to Calloway County, and Marshall
did beat McCracken County, So that's kind of where things
stand right now. If you had to kind of power
rank the region on the girl's side, you would probably
put not probably you would put CALLOWI one, I would
go Marshall too, maybe Murray three, McCracken four. You could

(08:52):
flip Murray, McCracken nonetheless Callawai Marshall one two. Right now
is how things stand on the boys side. Like I
said talking about Murray, you'd go one with Murray. What
you'd go what McCracken two. Yeah, you'd go McCracken two,
maybe Marshall three and then CALLOWI four, however order you

(09:13):
want to go. So that's kind of how things stand
so far on that side. So that's a look at
at our scores and things that stood out from soccer
and volleyball. Before we take a break, let's look at
football scores. We got to refresh ourselves on football scores
before we deep dive into the games from last Friday.
So our football scores from almost a week ago, a

(09:35):
half a week ago. Last week, you had Paduka tilminover
Graves County forty nine to fourteen, Logan County over McCracken
County thirty three sixteen, Caldwell County holds off Marshall County
thirty to twenty eight, Mayfield shuts out Christian County fifty
five nothing, Crosstown not much of a classic. All Murray

(09:56):
in that one, fifty to ten over Callaway County Joe
Burns Tennis see beat ballad Memorial forty to nothing Wow
and South Fulton over Fulton County thirty three to twelve.
So we'll take a break, we'll come back. We'll talk
about what all of that means and more when we continue.
This is Region one.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
As we move along here in your Wednesday edition of
the show, getting ready to talk football from week two,
start previewing week three and get into all that was
and is high school football and Region one. Before we
do that, I do want to address I've been noticing
and it's it's great to see a actually since the
incident that took place at Battle of the Birds, you know,

(13:03):
you've seen a lot of these high schools put out there,
attendance policies put out you know, guidelines, things like that,
safety guidelines, attendance goidelines, expectations.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Whatever it may be. Not a lot of these are news.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
Some of them are, some of them are updated following
that incident at Battle of the Birds, but a lot
of them are things that have kind of been in
place that they're just wanting to emphasize. They're going to
try to enforce better as we go forward. You know,
things like, you know, students that are our kindergarten or
young kids through eighth grade must be accompanied by an adult.

(13:37):
You know, can't run around wild under the bleachers, can't,
you know, things like that. So they've been kind of
reinforcing that McCraken County put out their god or their godeline,
and it's kind of a little bit of a little
bit of.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
A pushback online. And I don't blame them.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
There's one part that's a little different from some of
the others, and maybe some of the others have done it,
and if they had and I missed it, my apologies.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
And if they have.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
If others are doing this, then this goes to them
as well. But one of the things on the Attending
High School Sporting Events Guidelines again formerkraken County, but also
may apply to somebody else if it's somewhere else, it
says no admitutes after halftime of any event. Now I
saw that, and that stood out to me, And then

(14:23):
I started reading the comments, and apparently it stood out
to a lot of people. You got to change that.
You gotta change that. I understand if you're trying to foreset.
But like, not all parents work nine to five jobs.
Not all parents can get off work and comfortably be
at a game in the first half of a game,
especially of a game that might start at five thirty

(14:43):
might start at six o'clock. You know, there are parents
that work, you know, odd shifts, odd hours, maybe over time,
whatever it may be, who are still going to want
to try to be there and support their kids, even
if all they can be there for is a half
or a quarter or five minutes. I mean, there's times
with my kid, and I know he's only in middle
school where you know, I feel bad if I show

(15:05):
up late, but I'd feel worse if I didn't show up
at all for some things that I can't quite get
there in time for. So again, I read this from
the McCraken god. It might have been on some other
gods and I missed it, or might be on some
gods that that I haven't seen, but no ad minutes
after a halftime of any event. It's it's just not
a policy it's gonna work for the majority. It might
maybe it works for the majority, but it's not gonna

(15:27):
work for several I mean, you got again, parents who
might not get off work till six seven o'clock. Maybe
they get off work at five o'clock, but they you know,
have have to travel home and then get to the event.
Like you know, it's just logistics don't quite work out
to get there until a certain time. You got to
find a way to make an exception for those people.
Either either do away with that role altogether, or or

(15:49):
just find a way to make an exception for those people. Parent, grandparents,
you know, those grandparents that still work that might not
be able to get there, but they want to see
the little Johnny play, even if it's only for a
few minutes. So I get all the rest. You know,
it's a different world we live in. Look, I wish.
I wish our kids could run around like I did
when I was a kid. You know, we'd go to
a football game, basketball game, whatever it might be, and

(16:09):
we were just running wild, just having fun, hanging out
with our friends.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
You know you want them to be safe, You want
them to be in a safe place. You want them
to not be a distraction or not cause issues. All
on board for that, you know, you know, no entry
without an adult glad good with that. No outside food
or drinks good for you, But no ad minutes after
halftime of any event. I feel like needs to be tweaked.

(16:34):
I feel like we can and need to fix that. Again,
Just understand, not all people, not all parents work a
nine to five or can make that work for their
schedules and want to be there to support their kids.
Let's see if we can't figure that out, all right,
Moving on to the things that happened on the field
or on the court. High school football from week two again,

(16:55):
we went over all the scores in the first segment.
We'll go through the scores as we go through each game.
Where to start? That was the question I had during
the break. Where do I want to start? It's always
tough to start with the games you weren't at or
didn't see for yourself. But I'll do the best I
can because I think I want to start with Caldwell
County in Marshall County. I told you Cardwell County was

(17:16):
then improved and continuing to improve football team at the
same time. This was one of those wins that if
Marshall County was looking at their schedule and they wanted
to get to five wins, maybe six wins, maybe finally
get that six win, this was a game they had
to win, had to win. You know, as I've said,
you got to get to four before you get to five,

(17:38):
before you get to six. Marshall County has been stuck
as a three win team almost yearly now since twenty seventeen.
That was the last time they won four games in
a season. They haven't won more than three games in
a season since then. Last season three wins showed improvement.
I think coach Bloodworth is doing a really good job
of turning this program around. It's gonna take time. It's

(18:00):
gonna take You gotta be patient. The last four football
coaches at Marshall County have all ended their tenure at
Marshall County with a losing record, So you gotta be patient.
If you're gonna turn it around. It's not gonna happen overnight.
They are turning it around. They are better this season.
You can see it. You can fill it. But like
I said, if they're gonna get to that fourth win,

(18:21):
that fifth win, and eventually that sixth win, you gotta
gotta get those wins. Like on Friday night, and they
come up short to again a good Cardwall County team
who I think, as the season goes on, is gonna
continue to prove they're a good football team. Thirty to
twenty eight, a game that Marshall never quite led. Cardwall
County struck first seven to nothing. Midway through the first quarter.

(18:45):
The Marshalls gave up a safety un a botched kickoff return,
and Cardwell County went up nine to nothing on the
ensuing kickoff, So seven nothing now becomes nine to nothing
and then the first quarter ends with that score or
none nata Now. The Marshalls got their first score in
the second quarter three p forty two left in the

(19:07):
first half. Jay Thomason, he goes nineteen yards on a
fourth down run. Y that's right, nineteen yards on a
fourth down and the Marshalls trail nine to seven.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Now.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Cardwell County would score with just twenty two seconds left
in the second quarter to go up sixteen to seven,
but then would get another score as Marshall County fumbled
again and Cardwell County returned it for a touchdown, a
scoop and score twenty three to seven Cadwell County at
the half. And by the way, big shout out to
Marshall Athletics on Twitter. They do, in my opinion, the

(19:40):
best job, the best job of self promoting, self reporting
and getting information out there. So kudos to them in
a big shout out to them. But when we were
looking around the region, we were looking at scores. We
do a segment at halftime on my broadcast where we
do a Dairyman Supply scoreboard update where we get the score,

(20:00):
kind of talk about them and what's going on around
the region. Twenty three to seven surprised us. Big Tom
thought Marshall would win the game, thought Cardwell had a chance.
You know again, it was gonna be a close game.
We knew that felt like Marshall would get the win.
We were very surprised at twenty three to seven at
the half. So not a good first half, a safety

(20:23):
of fumble that was scooped and scored. Things not going
well for the Marshalls. Credit where credit's due, Credit where
it's due. In the past, a Marshall County team in
that situation would go ahead and get run off the field.
In the past, the Marshall County team in that situation
would have no shot of making any kind of run
in the second half and giving themselves any kind of

(20:45):
chance to win a game.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
They're done mentally, they're done. Here we go again, same
old story. Not this Marshall County team. And this is
the small glimmers of hope. Sometimes you got to read
between the lines. Sometimes you can't just look at a
box score. You gotta look at how that came about.
And we'll talk more about that later on with some
of these other games. But the score doesn't always tell

(21:07):
you everything. This was headed towards a blowout. This game
had the makings of it. On the road for the Marshals,
down twenty three to seven, not playing good, clearly giving up,
you know, points that they shouldn't have given up. And
then here come the Marshals in the second half. Marshall

(21:28):
strikes on a pick six to open things up six
fourteen left in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
They've made it a ball game. Twenty three to fourteen
years score. It was senior Greint Franklin on the score
on the pick six. So creating turnovers, creating points of
their own, that's what the Marshals are gonna have to
do to eke out.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Some wins this season.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Then later on in the third quarter, with twenty two
seconds left, Jessic found Weber forty seven yards touchdown Marshals.
It's twenty three to twenty one. Marshalls trail by two.
But folks, we've got a ballgame. We go to the
fourth quarter with that score. A Marshall fumble leads to
another score for Cardwall County thirty twenty one, with seven

(22:12):
h five left in the ballgame. Again, it just felt
like Marshall had their opportunities and just kept giving Cordwall
County the opportunity back, and Cardwall County didn't you know,
they took advantage.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
That's two scoops and scores. Now, I heard those were
a little controversial. I heard that there was some chirping
and some fans not happy with the call. Whatever it
may be, it is what it is, and Cardwall County
was able to take advantage of Marshall County mistakes and
that's what this game came down to. So thirty twenty
one year score Jessic finds Weber again later in the

(22:46):
fourth quarter to cut the lead to two. That would
be your final score thirty twenty eight, Cardwall County getting
the win. So Marshall County, by all intents and purposes,
you could argue they were probably maybe the better team
and just gave Cordwell County opportunity at Coldwell County took advantage,
and good teams usually do. Cardwell County is a good

(23:06):
team and they get the win in this game. For
Cardwell County, I mean again, the stats don't light it up. Lander.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Their quarterback seven of twenty not great, two interceptions, no touchdowns,
forty seven yards. He does do a lot on the ground.
He had eleven carries sixty three yards. As a team
they were forty carries for one to ninety six and
two rushing touchdowns. That's it, and that's my point. Marshall
County held them to two offensive touchdowns but still lost

(23:35):
the game thirty to twenty eight. So again you could
argue Marshall was for the most part the better team,
just not the better team that night, not playing good
good enough football to get the win. Stat Wise, for
the Marshalls, Jazik was twelve of twenty two, two touchdowns,
one pick, one sixty On the night, Marshall County had

(23:55):
twenty six carries as a team, one forty two on
the ground for one touchdown led by Thomas in the
sophomore fifteen carries ninety two yards and a score. So
marsh County three offensive touchdowns. They did have a pick six, right,
I saw that, right? I did read that. I'm not yeah.
So three offensive touchdowns and a pick six on the

(24:18):
road should be good enough to get it done, just
not quite good enough in a week two. I still
have a lot of faith in Marshall. I think they're
gonna get to you look at their schedule. It's gonna
be harder to get to four wins now, but it's
still there. Trig County this week, we'll talk more about
it on Friday, but Trick County this week is again
another winnable game. Although Trigg may be a little better
than we expected. And it's at Trigg again. Tough, but

(24:42):
you go on the road and just clean up those mistakes,
you can get a win.

Speaker 7 (24:47):
Up.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
You put up twenty eight thirty four points on Trig County,
you should be able to get a win. You just
can't spot them points. Can't give them points, can't give
them the football can't, can't, can't do that. But that's
a winnable game. So that would be win number two
if you get it. It's gonna be tough against Murray
Madisonville those weeks, Muhlenberg. Winnable game. That's three, Calloway. At

(25:09):
the end of the season, that is four, and then
you just gotta upset somebody. I don't know if you
can upset Madisonville.

Speaker 3 (25:15):
They're good.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Not gonna get Owensboro. But Graves, I hate to say it.
I don't think you will that Graves will be the favorite.
Apollo Apollo is actually probably a very winnable game for
you at this point. It's at home at the end
of the season. So there's a path to four wins.
There's still a path to five wins if you can
find an upset in there. But you gotta get to

(25:37):
win on Friday, clean up some of those mistakes, and
I think you're good enough to get there. I think
you're good enough to get to four wins, maybe good
enough to get to five again if you can you
play more discipline football as the season goes on. So
still not down on Marshall, but a tough, tough road
loss on Friday night and a tough way to lose it.

(25:57):
All right, what else we want to look at? Score wise?
Logan County McCracken County. This is a game again. I
picked Marshall to beat Codwell lost that one. I picked
McCracken over Logan lost that one. So McCracken County and
Logan County. McCracken has to travel to Logan County. And
again my gut told me to pick Logan County just simply,

(26:18):
just simply because two and a half hour road game,
you know, a team you're not familiar with, a team
your players don't really know anything about. You know, that's
just tough to get wins in those situations. But to
be held to sixteen points a little surprising. Logan County
a good defensive team so far this season. They beat
a good not great, a good Heart County team nineteen

(26:41):
to fifteen, and then McCracken thirty three to sixteen. So
their defense clearly tough to score on, or at least
a little harder to score on than people might have imagined.
Now this early was a good ballgame McCracken County had
a three to nothing lead in the midway through the
first quarter. On a field goal, Logan County scored the

(27:02):
first touchdown of the ball game, led seven to three,
but I think that was the score at the end
of the first quarter. McCracken County grabbed a lead nine
to seven. Early in the second quarter, Logan County was
able to tie it up nine to nine as it
was intentional grounding in the end zone from McCracken County
led to a Logan County safety. Again, just some of

(27:23):
these plays, some of these mistakes that you won't see
as much towards the end of the season. So nine
to nine is your score. With about thirty six seconds
left in the first half, Logan County goes up sixteen
to nine. That's your score at halftime. Still the ball
game still on opportunity. However, McCracken County interception sets the
Cougars up in the red zone and their defense kept

(27:45):
them out of the end zone. But Logan County got
a field goal nineteen to nine year score. Midway through
the third quarter, and then to start the fourth quarter,
Logan County goes up twenty six to nine. All the
momentum clearly with the Cougars. McCracken County cut it to
twenty six sixteen at about nine minutes left in the ballgame,

(28:06):
but tottle too late, as McCracken County falls in that one.
McCracken drops to n two on the season. Looking at
their stats, mattx O'Neill was nineteen of twenty seven one
forty seven, two touchdowns, one pick. Didn't run the football
very well and again credit to Logan County, seventeen rush attempts,
which feels like not enough, but seventeen doesn't feel like

(28:28):
a high number, and five of those were quarterback scrambles,
so that really only ran the football twelve times with intention,
So seventeen carries twenty five yards total, and again five
were on the quarterback for a negative thirteen yards, so
those are clearly sacks or scrambles that didn't go anywhere.
So essentially, if you take the quarterback out of the equation,

(28:49):
that was twelve rushing attempts for what would have been
thirty eight yards, it's not gonna get it done on
the road.

Speaker 3 (28:56):
Just not enough.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
You look at Logan County and what they did offensively
to the McCracken County defense. And it was a very
good game from the Logan County sophomore quarterback twenty of
twenty five, no picks, two ten, no touchdowns, but again
two hundred and ten yards and he only threw five
completion incompletions on twenty five attempts.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
It's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
And then Logan County as a team thirty four carries,
won twelve to three touchdowns twenty six eighty eight and
three for their top running back. So McCracken's defense struggled,
struggled with their offense, and then clearly McCracken's offense struggled
to get the football moving, especially on the ground. McCracken
falls to zero to two. Not the end of the

(29:40):
world for McCracken County. I don't know anything about Northeast Clarksville.
I'll try to find out before Friday. Mayfield's not gonna
be easy. Union County's not gonna be easy. This is
a tough skit.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
You know. We talk about Graves County schedule being tough.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
Christian McCracken County's got a pretty tough one too, So
not an easy schedule coming up for the Mustangs. But
they got to have a home game, returned home, and
we'll talk more about that one on Friday. All right,
let's take a break, gotta take one.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
We'll be back.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
We'll talk Graves, Tillman, we'll talk Crosstown. It wasn't much
of a rivalry, wasn't much of a classic as it
was an all Murray. You know, just beat down that
just was and then get into some more before we
wrap it up.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
Our final segment coming up. This is Region one.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Sports, Kentucky's first region for a reason, Region one Sports.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Reagon What Sports Our final segment here on your Wednesday
edition of the show, talking to Ascow football from week
two of the football season, as we play a little
play a little Monday morning quarterback here on your Wednesday
edition of the show. So we've talked Marshall, they're loss
on the road to Conawoa County. Still believe in the Marshalls,
think they can get to four wins. I just really

(31:02):
hope they get to at least four wins. It's just
it's still crazy to me and I tell people all
the time, Oh you went to Marshall County. Oh you
played at Marshall County. Oh that must have been rough,
and I'm like, no, we were good back in my day.
We were good and we can be good again. You
got the resources, he's got, the size of the school,
They've got some big linemen this year, They've got some

(31:25):
things going their way, and I think they've got the
coach that can get it done.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
So I'm rooting for them.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
I want to see them get to four or five,
finally get to six wins. Don't think you're getting six
wins this year, but just rooting for it like crazy
unless you play Graves County. When you play Graves County,
I'm not. But outside of that, I'm all for the
Marshalls and then mccrackett County. We talked about them oh
and two unfortunately for them to start the season. Let's

(31:50):
talk Graves County, who also is OHO and two to
start the year. And on the flip side of that,
we'll talk Tillman, who's two and oh to start the year.
I'll start from the Graves perspective. If this is not
uncharted territory. Just a couple of years ago, Graves County
started oh to two and have very similar scores to
what they've seen in the first two weeks. And went
on to win eight games that season. It's been known

(32:12):
to be done. It does not mean you're a bad
football team. It means you're playing some really good football
teams yourself to start the year. So, as a Graves faithful,
as a Graves fan, as a Graves apologist, I'm not
making any excuses. There's been there were stretches in the
last first two weeks, so they didn't play good. There
were also stretches where they did play good. At the

(32:32):
end of the day, they just weren't good enough to
compete with those two teams. That is reality. That's what
we've learned. But it does not mean all hope is
lost in the season is over again. Two years ago
it was an eight win Graves County team, which by
the way, doesn't happen often even in good programs. Getting
to that eighth win, getting to a ninth win, that

(32:53):
is that's hard to do consistently. So to start oh
to two and then to win eight games pretty tough.
I'm not saying this team is on you know pois
to win eight games. I think they can. I hope
they can. I'm just saying it's been known to be done.
So a rough first two weeks for my Eagles. In

(33:14):
this game on Friday, there was a point in this
game where it felt like Graves was capturing some.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
Momentum in the first half.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
It's twenty eight to seven, I get it, it's slopsided,
but they got the football to start the second half,
and had they scored and got it to twenty eight fourteen,
you've got yourself a bit of a ball game. And
Graves was doing some things well enough maybe to capture
that momentum. But Tillman just doing Tillman things and kept
it from happening and got the big win. In this

(33:45):
game for the Eagles, they only got ninety six passing
yards and one hundred and eight on the ground. They
did score both their touchdowns rushing. Jase Houston had a
great run. He was eleven for thirty three yards in
one touchdown. Brady Roselle was eleven carries forty two yards
in a touchdown. So twenty seven carries, one eight two touchdowns.
Passing game seven of eighteen, no touchdowns, no interceptions, ninety

(34:08):
six yards. You want to put this in perspective though
last season, you know this was a forty nine to
fourteen loss to Tilman last season it was a sixty
one to seven loss, so make of that what you will.
But nonetheless, Tillman two and oh, let's look at Tilman stats.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
In this one.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
They ended up throwing the football twenty three times thirty
or thirty one times twenty three completions, three touchdowns, one interception,
two hundred and thirty nine yards for stone Crow, thirty
six carries as a team for one point fifty six,
and four rushing touchdowns, two of those coming from DeMarcus Wilson,
who's just a bruiser man. He's just a you know,
churns the wheels and just picks up yards and he

(34:51):
chews up yards. So he got it done as well.
So again, three passing touchdowns, four rushing touchdowns, Graves allowed
two hundred and thirty nine in the year and one
p fifty six on the ground.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
Tilman's good. Tilman's good again.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
I mean, they're overall ranked the fifth team in the
state of any class, number one in Class four A.
They're good. Let's just establish that. So two and zero
for Tilman, big wins. They get the big one Friday
night with Mayfield, and again we'll talk more about that
on Friday as we break it down and preview it.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
You know, a week.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
Ago, I would have said, I think Mayfield's got a
shot after watching Tilman last week.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
No, because it's at Tilman.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
If it was at Mayfield, I think might be a
different story this season.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
But it's not. It's at Tilman. Now.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Tilman's got to play more discipline. Some of their penalties
were just I mean, they were preventable, and if you
want to win a championship again, you can't just rely
on your talent again this season. You're not as talented
as you were last season. You're still talented, just not
as talented. Got to clean some of those things up,
and some of those mistakes were on the players who

(35:59):
are meant to carry them. Got to clean it up.
They clean it up. They got a shot if they don't.
If they don't play discipline on Friday night and Mayfield does,
may feel it could flip in their favorite. We'll talk
about that again though on Friday. But Tilman two and
oh Graves oh and two. So if you look around,
I mean you've got uh, you know, m cracking at

(36:19):
oh and two. Maybe a little surprising because we kind
of thought they might beat Logan County, not really surprised
by Graves being oh and two. They get Murray on
Friday night. Now there's a world, and we were talking
about this on Friday, there is a world in which
the Eagles could end up oh and three or oh
and four. I mean, this schedule is just you got

(36:39):
to bring it every single week. I don't think that's
gonna happen. I think in a couple of weeks we're
gonna be looking back on a two and two start
and things don't feel as bleak obviously at that point.
But a tough schedule and a tough start for my Eagles.
Speaking of Murray, speaking of their opponent on Friday night,
Murray put a thump being on Callaway County in the crosstown.

(37:03):
You know, Coach Cunningham for Murray had this or had
this great quote and I'm gonna paraphrase it because I
can't find it right now and I'm pressed for Tom,
but he had this great quote about these rivalries and
he basically said, you play so they remember who you are,
right like, we're gonna leave, they're gonna remember us. We're
gonna leave our mark. And they did fifty to ten

(37:25):
this game was never close. In this game, I mean,
Whyte Robbins scorching his former team the senior twenty one
of twenty five.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
That's pretty efficient, by the way.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
That's the thing that would concern me if I'm Calloway County,
just how easily Murray moved the football and how good
their offense looked. Twenty one of twenty five, two hundred
and thirty eight yards, one touchdown, no picks. By the way,
he also led the team in rushing seven carries for
one to twenty seven. Didn't score a rushing touchdown, but

(37:59):
that's pretty good. Seven for one two seven and no touchdowns.
As a team, Murray was thirty one carries, two hundred
and forty four yards and get this, six rushing touchdowns.
It just felt like they could score at will. I mean,
in the past game, it felt like if they stayed
in the air and twenty five passes is a lot,
they could have scored more. It's just, yeah, just a

(38:23):
dominating performance by that Murray offense. Looking at Callowai County,
who again put up sixty two points on I get it,
a bad Webster County team, but still things were not
all bleak. If you look at their stats. I mean,
you look at at Matthew Bridwell the junior eleven of
nineteen for one sixty no interceptions, no touchdowns. Not bad,

(38:45):
not terrible. Running the football, they were twenty six carries
for one to sixteen in a touchdown. Again not bad,
not terrible. That tells me that Calloway County is still
going to be competitive. And you know, like this week,
for example, with Fulton County, I think they can go
on the road and get that win. Listen, you lost
fifty to ten to a legit Murray team. You still

(39:08):
had some stats and some numbers that didn't look awful,
didn't look bad. For who you are and where you
are at this point in your program, are positives in
some cases. And with Fulton County a ball memorial coming up,
if you play like that, you probably get a win.
Or if you put up those numbers, you probably get
a win. Now I get it. Maybe some of those

(39:30):
numbers came late in the game. Maybe it was you know,
already over and they finally started having a little success.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
Whatever it may be.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
But not all hope is lost for Calloway County, a
winless team last year. You've already got that win this season,
and you've got winnable football games coming up this week.
Fulton County, it starts with them. They lost thirty three
to twelve to South Fulton this past week. You want
to put that in perspective, they lost forty seven six

(40:00):
South Fulton. Last season they had a similar score with
least in Tennessee, So Fulton County zero to two, Callway
County one and one going into that meeting. And remember
last season, Fulton County got their only win of the
year against Calloway County in a thumping sixty two to
fourteen at Calloway. It's gonna be hard to predict this

(40:21):
game on Friday. I'll just be honest with you. I
think Calloway wins. I think they go on the road
and they get the win because they have to. They
have to if they're gonna get more wins this season.
It's it's gonna come in the next two weeks. So again,
by the way, Fulton County losing thirty three to twelve
Ballard is a Week four opponent for Calloway County. They
lost this past week forty to Nada, forty zhing to

(40:44):
Joe Burns, Cedar Hill Tennessee. I told you this would
be a different year for Ballard Memorial. Last season they
lost that game thirty eight to twenty. So I think
that's telling us a little bit about where these programs
are headed. I think Ballard's a little bit back down
compared to last season. Ballard, by the way, gets Massac
County this week. So a year ago they won that

(41:06):
game forty four to twenty eight.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
We'll see that.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
That's another good measuring stick for a team you played
last season and where you are this season. All right,
I kind of did hint at it and kind of
did preview it a little bit. But our upcoming games
here for Week three, You've got Graves at Murray. I
think that's gonna be a really good game and a
lot of pressure on Graves County to go win and
get a win.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
You've got Mayfield at Tillman. That's the big one.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
That's the granddaddy of rivalries as far as tradition and
longevity and two schools that don't like each other. McCracken
County hosts Northeast Clarksville, Tennessee, Callaway County's at Fulton County.
Ballard Memorial goes to Massac County and Marshall County travels
to Trigg County.

Speaker 3 (41:50):
So I think that that's not the order.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
I think the heavyweight matchup, the one everybody will be
keeping an eye on, obviously is Mayfield Tillman. I think
Grays Murray is sort of that next level down. It's
sort of the you know, right before the main event.
And then McCracken and Northeast I think is one will
be all keeping an eye on. And then Callaway Fulton
probably gonna be a close game, could be a good

(42:14):
football game.

Speaker 3 (42:16):
You know.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
Again, we'll make our picks on Friday, but a big,
big opportunity for Callaway County Marshall at Trigg. I would
put that up there. I'd probably put that as my
what fourth game of the night to keep an eye on.
In that order again Mayfield Tillman, Craves Murray, McCracken, Clarksville. Yeah,
and then then Marshall Trigg, maybe Marshall Trigg over McCracken
over their game just again because I don't know, I

(42:41):
don't know. I'm trying to get a fill for Marshall
County Trigg County. By the way, they're one and one
to start the year, they thumped Ohio County, who has
just not been good for a long time. Ohio County
has just been really rough for them for a while.
But then they lost by one point to Hart County,
who's good, Hark County's good, and Trigg County scored on them.
So so this game's at home. Trick County looks like

(43:03):
they've got a bit of an offense, looks like they
can put up some points.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
We'll see.

Speaker 2 (43:08):
I mean, Trick County is running the football right now
at two hundred and thirty nine yards per game. Marshall
County's defense is gonna get tested on Friday night again.

Speaker 3 (43:17):
So I'm intrigued by that.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
I think that could be a good football game and
a must win for Marshall to get where they want
to get. And unfortunately, Trick County may be better than
they expected. So yeah, I think this week offers some
good football. I think this week's going to offer some fun.

Speaker 3 (43:33):
On Friday night.

Speaker 2 (43:33):
I think, you know, my favorite thing, aside from calling games,
I love calling games, by the way, I love my job.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
I love the atmosphere, I love being at the games.
I love taking it all in the Friday night lights,
everything that goes with it, broadcasting the games. I love
my Eagles. It's just it's my favorite night of the
week by far. It's just do what you love. You
never work a day I don't work. I get to
go to a game and tell you what I'm seeing.
It's awesome. But I think this Friday night, my favorite thing,

(44:03):
outside of calling the games themselves, is keeping up with
the games, looking around the region, trying to figure out
what's going on, how it's going on, who's doing what.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
That's my favorite thing.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
And I think this week is gonna offer a lot
of intrigue and gonna keep us on our toes and
keep us busy trying to keep up with some of
these games because there's good matchups. Obviously we'll all be
paying attention to Mayfield at Tilman, But outside of that,
don't sleep on the McCracken County game, don't sleep on
that Marshall Trigg game.

Speaker 3 (44:33):
Don't sleep on Callawi Fulton.

Speaker 2 (44:35):
I get it, it's not high level football, but it
could be a good football game.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
I'll be honest.

Speaker 2 (44:41):
Ballard goes to Massak, that's gonna tell the tell of
where Ballard is for the season. So yeah, there's some
good interesting threads and storylines to keep an eye on
this week. It's gonna be a lot of fun. And
by the way, one of the ways we keep up
with that is you texting us, So don't forget that.
As I leave you, let me leave you that that
number one more time, and several of you are taking

(45:02):
advantage of it, which is awesome. It's been a lot
of fun. Two seven oh five, three four forty three
oh eight. That's the number for our text machine. Don't
be shy. Let us know what's going on around the
region so we can pass that one to everybody else.
All right, that's it for me. That's it for today,
that's it for our Wednesday. Back on Friday, Football Friday,

(45:22):
we'll preview the games, break them down and give you
our picks then. Until then, hope you've enjoyed. This has
