Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Region one sports record with Brian York
on ninety nine to five The Fab.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
And Away we go on your Monday. On a frigid Monday.
It is uh October twentieth. It is very chilly, forty
three out and about right now as we record this
show and get it ready for the radio.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Here this Monday morning.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I'm Brian Yorke by the way, and as always, you
can get in touch with us here on the show,
any of our social media pages or via the text
line at two seven oh five, three four forty three
oh eight two seven oh five, three four.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Forty three oh eight. How are you on this Monday? Mad?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Was that different getting up and getting outside this morning?
You walk outside of your house at five am this morning?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
It was it was cold. It was cold. I like it.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I'm here for it now, listen. I don't like it
when it's freezing outside, don't get me wrong. And it's
like freezing NonStop and there's no break. I like this
cold in the morning, nice and chilly. To get the
gotta get the vehicle warm, gotta be comfortable on the
right end.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
And then by the midday you're in shorts and a
T shirt. I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
So this is my kind of year, my kind of weather,
and finally feels like fall, if I may add, although
I don't like the rain, I didn't like the storm
this weekend. I didn't like kind of rained out our
half of our tournament at Jackson, which, you know, felt
like we were finally playing some good fallball for the
thirteen U Paduca storm. I felt like we were finally
starting to figure some things out here in the fall,
and then we don't get a chance to go compete
(01:31):
in bracket play.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Didn't like that.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Didn't like the fact that lightning nearly struck my house,
that's right. And when I say nearly struck my house,
I'm talking fifteen feet away.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah. Yeah. My wife has some.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
One of the BlackBerry bushes BlackBerry bushes, yeah, and has
two posts in the ground with like a metal cable
running between the post. And lightning struck the post closest
to the house, which again is like fifteen feet from
the very corner of my house, which is my son's rooms.
That's not cool. The lightning hit that post and just
shattered it. I mean, it just pieces went everywhere. I
(02:06):
was in the kitchen using the air fryer, at the time.
I was in the kitchen cooking a little little leftovers,
you know, popping some leftovers in the air fryer, and
it popped, and that lightning hit. I looked like a
Looney Tunes cartoon. You could see my skeleton. I just
took off running. I had no idea what was going on.
Just scared the Bejesus out of me. So and then
scary just being that close to the house. And then
(02:27):
like he went to turn on his led lights the
next day and the the it and they didn't just work,
but the outlet popped and then the lights kind of fried,
and so yeah, that's that's not cool either. So anyway,
that's that was our weekend. Hopefully yours went much better.
Hopefully your weekend was much much better. We got several
(02:48):
things to get into today. We've got football from Friday.
We've got to go over no nothing major, nothing groundbreaking,
earth shattering, no real upsets anywhere, but our our typical
Monday morning quarterback discussion here on the show today, and
we're going to talk a little volleyball. You know, we
don't have you know, soccer is sort of wrapped up
for the region, but we've got volleyball getting into their
(03:09):
postseason place, and we'll talk a little bit about that
today and give you the the districts and the matchups
and and those things as we go through the show today.
So that's what's on the docket now quickly before we
get into all of that. If you are following us
on social media, you notice some changes to social media
over the weekend. That's That's the best hint I can
give you. That's the best I can say. If you
(03:29):
don't know what I'm talking about, go check out our pages,
Go check out x go check out Facebook. But there
are some changes coming which are an indicator of some
changes coming. And that's the best I can say. I
told you last week, I don't know. I don't know
what the what the future holds. I don't know what
I don't know what the future is for the Region
one Sports Report, but I do know what the future
(03:49):
is for Region one Sports.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
With Brian Yorke, and I'll kind of just leave it
at that. I'll just let that be.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
But but yeah, you just you just never know in
the world we live in, in the in the way
things are, or what's going to be going on, or
what could be going on.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
I don't know what's going to be going on or
could be going on.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
But you've got to have a plan, and my plan
is to always bring you content covering sports in the
first Region. That's my plan, that's my goal, that's my commitment.
It has been for eight years, It'll continue to be
as long as I'm physically able to do it. So
there you go. Now, let's get into what we do.
Let's cover high school sports here across the first Region.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Let's talk.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Let's get into volleyball before we get into scores from
Friday nights games, get into our heavy handed football talk today,
let's get into volleyball. Let's go through and take a look,
you know at the district seatings, at the district matchups
that we've got as district play gets underway today across
the first Region. So let's look at it district by district,
(04:48):
your matchups starting in district tournament play today. In the
first district, you have Carlisle County and Fulton City, So
Carlile County will take on Fulton City Carlile County.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
I'm trying to fund the prec right now.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
You think i'd do a little more research, I'm a
little little scrambling this morning. Carlo County sixteen and twelve
on the season. Fulton City is oh and eighteen. I
think Carlo County is gonna move on. Then you've got
Hickman County and Fulton County. Hickman County and Fulton County.
Fulton County has been pretty solid this year, seven and
thirteen on the season. Hickman County not bad either. They
(05:22):
are eleven and thirteen. I do think Hickman County will
move on, but that's your matchup. So Carlole County and
Fulton City, Hickman County and Fulton County, the winners will
meet tomorrow night for the championship. That is District one.
In District two, that's where McCracken County resides. We know
that they're twenty six and seven on the year, and
(05:43):
they will take on Saint Mary. Saint Mary, by the way,
this season two and eleven, So needless is the say.
McCracken County is always a heavy favorite. Then you've got
CCA Community Christian Academy. They will take on Paduca Tilman.
CCA this season is six and twenty. Paduca Tillman six
and fourteen could be a battle there could be a
close one. A little bit of intrigue there. But again
(06:05):
the district, the region belongs to McCracken County, but that's
again the second district where your matchups are McCracken County,
Saint Mary and Cca Paduca Tillman. Moving on to the
third district tournament, a three team tournament, so Ballard Memorial.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
They are in the top seed.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
They are awaiting the winner of tonight's matchup between Graves
County and Mayfield. My lady Eagles, let's go, Lady Eagles,
come on, let's do it. They are on the season.
They have a record of fourteen and eleven. Mayfield is
nineteen and sixteen.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Now Mayfield and Graves this season they split in the
regular season. Mayfield beat Graves three to one back in
September and then Graves beat Mayfield three to nine in
late September. So a little bit of a difference there,
but two teams that's split. Gonna be a battle tonight.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
I mean it's.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Battle of the Birds, but it's going to be a
battle tonight for one of those teams to go on.
Let's go, lady Eagles. You know what's where my heart is.
But it's gonna be fun. If you love volleyball, that's
gonna be a good matchup tonight. That is over at
Ballard Memorial and again the winner will move on to
face the Lady Bombers. Lady Bombers, by the way, twenty
four and seven on the year, the second best team
in Region one. That's the third district now out of
(07:18):
the fourth district in this fourth district matchup. But of
course my computer wants to be very slow as I
try to do this. In this fourth district matchup, you
have Marshall County and CFS, Callawai County and Murray. So
Marshall County seventeen and five, CFS is nine and seventeen,
and then Callaway will face Murray Callaway sixteen and fourteen,
(07:40):
Murray nine and thirteen. So Marshall and Callaway the expected
favorites in that meeting. So that is your district pairings.
That is how things are as we go into the
district tournament for volleyball.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
We'll let you know on Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
How all of that has shaken out, right, that's how
it works all right. Now, before we move on, before
we take a break, let's go over football scores.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
From last week.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Then we'll come back, we'll discuss, we'll get into the weeds,
we'll talk about these games and then, as always, you
got to look forward, and we got to look forward
to the last two weeks over the regular season. So
football scores from Friday, then we'll take our break. You
had McCracken County over Christian County sixty three to twenty.
Graves County took down Marshall County twenty one to ten.
Paduka Tilman went to Warren East and won big forty
(08:25):
four to six. Mayfield over Trigg County fifty nine to six.
Calloway County got that win. I told you, twenty one
to eighteen, Murray High over Union County and a I
mean just thumped them forty four to seven Fulton County.
Fulton County gonna be playing for a district title. Fulton
County beat Balert of Memorial forty four n A nothing
(08:45):
ziltchz zero and again Fulton County turning it on here
at the end. We'll talk about that and more when
we come back. Gotta take a break. Those are the scores,
the stats, the discussion, so much more coming to way.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
It's Region one.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
And there were some things going on in sports today
that will make your brain fall out of your skull.
You were listening to the Region one Sports Report on
ninety nine to five the fan.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Fred You on sports Here on our second segment of
our Monday edition of the show, Brian Yorke, here a
frigid it's still forty three outside.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Wow, I can't. I asked my Amazon device.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
I won't say the name to set yours off, but
I did ask my Amazon device last night.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
It was going to bed.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I was like, all right, what's the weather going to
be at five of the morning, because I got to
know that first. And it told me. And I was like, man,
that's cold. What about nine in the morning? And it
told me? And I was like, man, that's still cold.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
I like it. I'm here for it, all right.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Moving on, we've got football talk to get into it again.
Not a not a lot of surprises, not a lot
of things that were really even that close this past weekend.
But we've got things I think are worth talking about
and kind of give us the picture for what the
final two weeks should look like. We'll start with Callaway
County and Allen County, Scotsvil because that was the closest
(10:07):
game of the week. As Callaway County goes on the
road and they get a win. Look at those Lakers
and they win twenty one to eighteen, their fifth count
them five. You got to use your whole hand. Five
wins for Callaway County this season an unbelievable mark for
a program that was just just dead. I mean, it's
(10:28):
just it was just it was under the ground, winless
last year. They've had multiple win winless seasons in the
last five or six years. And to have five wins
this season, and again, I don't care you played ballad.
I don't care you played Fulton County. Fulton County whooped
your butts last year. So you gotta start somewhere, and
(10:49):
they did, and then they go get a win over
Allen County Scottsville, a district win, by.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
The way, Keep that in mind on the road. Keep
that in mind.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
So first time it's two thousand and eight, the Callawai
County has beat Allen County sconsul last season. And again
you can talk about the turnaround. You want to talk
about how things are trending in the right direction. Last season,
Allen County scots will beat Callowei County forty one to fourteen.
This season, Callowi County goes to their place and they
win twenty one eighteen. Let's look at the numbers for
the Lakers. Matthew Bridwell was sixteen of twenty four, one
(11:23):
sixty one, two touchdowns, one pick. How about Logan Smith.
I told you, when you've got Logan Smith, you give
Logan Smith the football and he's going to do good things.
Twenty two carries, two thirty five in a touchdown. Unbelievable.
Twenty two carries for two thirty five and a touchdown.
There are kids who will go their entire careers and
(11:45):
never see a two hundred yard rushing game. There are
kids who go their entire careers in and total get
two hundred yards rushing.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
This this dude's doing it. It feels like weekly at this point. Unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
On the season, he's at twelve ninety two with seventeen
touchdown averaging one sixty two per game. I mean, come on, now,
them's video game numbers. I don't even do that in
NCAA football, although I'm not that great, but unbelievable stuff.
They're from Callawai County, from Logan Smith defensively, does Allen
County have their stats up? No, because they haven't put
(12:18):
their stats up for four weeks. Do I have to
do this again? I don't care if you're losing, get
your stats up. It's just like it should be a
forced requirement.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
At this point.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
The website's KHSAA is the best high school website of
the nation. I know it's not the same now as
it was a few years ago when Rard was taking
it over or was still running it, but it's still
the best. There's no reason not to have you. There
is no reason to not have stats up from September nineteenth.
That's just lazy and it's sad.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
It's sad. At this point.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
They're not in our region, so I know they're not
going to hear this. Maybe they will, and if they do,
get your crap together. It's for your kids, not for me.
It's not for the media. I mean it is. We
want to cover your kids. We know you're losing, we
know it's tough. They're still doing things. Let them be
let them be covered. And if you if you can't
do that, we can't cover them properly. And that's the
spot you're in. It just it just irks me. It
(13:14):
irks me to see see people be that lazy. They
can't do one simple thing for their kids. Put stats up,
Come on, come on, all right, off my high horse.
Calloway County goes and gets a win. Now, how does
things look for Calloway County right now? That's a district win.
They've got five on the season. They have a shot,
they have a shot to get a sixth win. It's
(13:35):
not gonna be this week. You got Paduka Tilman. You've
got them at home. But you've got Paduka Tilman.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Now.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
I hope you go out and play the games of
your life. I hope you go out and you pull
that shocker. I mean, I don't hope it. I'm not
rooting here for anybody, but I hope you go play
as well as you can play. But you've got Paduka
Tilman next week though, next week Halloween, here comes Marshall
County to your play by the way to your place,
(14:03):
And Marshall County is looking at trying to get over
that third win for the first time, and at this
point almost a decade, which is kind of crazy, they
just can't seem to ever get over three wins.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
They've got Apollo this week.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Apollo is looking pretty good after a win over Madisonville
where they beat Madisonville forty nine to forty. I'm not
gonna give my pick away just yet, but Apollo is
a favorite at Marshall County this week. And then Marshall
goes to Callaway in Callaway right now, right now, you're
(14:38):
the favorite. You are going into that game. So a
sixth win being a possibility, getting a district win, getting
into the play like unbelievable stuff for Callaway County. I've
sung their praises all year, and I think it's worth
singing because that program, those kids that they've just they've
had it so bad, so tough, so rough. The last
(15:00):
few years, it's been so tough. And on this show
and any other entity, any other media entity, what's what's
taken the headlines. You cover those that are good, you
cover those that are making noise. And this is a
program and these are kids that have not had this
coverage the last few years, and the coverage they have
gotten has been negative because it's not been great. So yeah,
I'm gonna sing their praises this year and give them
(15:22):
their due. Good for Callaway County a chance at six
wins this season, picking up their fifth of the year
last week.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
So that for me was the headline.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
That for me was we expected it, they were the favorite,
but they went and got it done. Second thing for
me that was kind of the headline Fulton County. Fulton County,
they don't just win. They go to Ballard and they
just roll forty four. Not a forty four to nothing
Fulton County over Ballard Memorial. You know, I heard their
(15:50):
coach or I saw something where he had posted Coach Bridges,
who again I will say this year in and year out,
does the most with the least.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
And I mean that in a good way.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Like it's a small roster, it's very dependent, very dependent
on having a group you can build around. Those windows
for smaller schools they open, they close rapidly. And I
think I saw him say something to the effect of
just get us to Kaverna.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
Just get us to Kaverna.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
You know, they had been winless to that point in
the season, going into it two weeks ago or three
weeks ago. Now, they had been winless. They'd been scoring,
but they had had a tough go. But they knew
once they got to district play, which was Kaverna, Ballard
and Russellville that they had a chance. And they get
to Kaverna and they win forty two to forty. They
go to Ballard last week they win forty four nothing,
(16:40):
and now they play for a district championship. They played
for a chance to take the top seed in the
district with the Battle of Russellville. Now Russellville is listen.
They beat Ballard fifty six thirteen. They beat Kaverna fifty
five forty two. This is gonna be a battle on
Friday night. Now we'll get to that in a moment,
but it's gonna be an absolute battle. You gotta go
(17:00):
to their place. They are I'll say it, they are
the favorite. It's at their place. They have looked a
little better in those same games. The fact you shut
out Ballard and they didn't gives me a little more hope,
or gives me some hope for you, or gives me
a lot of hope for you. But they've scored fifty
plus on those two teams. You scored forty plus. You
(17:21):
gave up forty to Kaverna. They gave up forty two.
This is gonna be a battle man. But let's look
at what you did to Ballard Memorial. The pilots of
Fulton County getting their due here on the show today.
Preston Smith, a junior quarterback eight of eleven two point
fifteen in the year, no picks, four touchdowns. Zayden Kinney
(17:41):
was his main man. Three catches for one fifteen and
two touchdowns. It, I mean, that's obvious. He could have
scored every time he touched the football. Three catches one
to fifteen to two touchdowns. And by the way, that
is a kid, I think, and if it is, I apologize.
I think that's the first time all year we've even
mentioned his name, which is a shame because he has
been doing some great things. He deserves the love too,
(18:03):
just like anybody else in the region. Zayden Kinney three catches,
one point fifteen two touchdowns on the season, and again,
why he deserves the love. How about eight hundred and
thirty seven receiving yards and eleven touchdowns. That's one hundred
and five a game. This kid has brought it week
in and week out, and he is why, by the way,
he is a big reason why Fulton County is two
(18:24):
and oh in district play, and they've got a shot
to take the top seed in the district going to
Russellville on Friday. Let's go do it. What a story
that would be get us to Kaverna. They did, You're
there and now you've got a shot to do something special.
And it just goes to show you that in high
school football, things can change in a week.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Things can change on a dome. Things can change when.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
You get to district player, you get to the right opponent,
or you get to the right part of your schedule.
And they did, and they're here and they're winning now
two and oh in their last two football games, two
and zero in district play. So the pilot, it's getting
it done. How about the Eagles getting it done on
Friday night? They take down Marshall County for the twentieth
(19:08):
consecutive time, and we'll talk about it on the other
side of the break. We got to take a break
up against it back with that and a lot more.
This is Region one.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Region one Sports. We know local because we are local show.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I'm coming Region on Sports.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Our final segment here on your Monday edition of the show,
talking in high school football, talking stats, scores and more.
From Friday night. We've talked Calloway County, we talked Fulton County.
They took the lead today. It doesn't happen often. It
doesn't happen often. It hasn't happened very much in the
past that Calloway County and Fulton County have led our
discussion on a on a Monday Morning QB episode. But
(19:54):
they are and they did today and they deserved it.
Now we move on to Graves County, who deserves it
as well. The Eagles took down Marshall County, a rivalry
game on Friday night, in a big district game on
Friday night. It puts Graves County in the driver's seat
to lock up a playoff spot. I think crazy things
could happen if they lose this week to Mielnberg County.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
But as long as they went out, they're good. They're in.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
They've done enough, and they take down Marshall County for
the twentieth consecutive season. And we talked about this last week.
We talked about, you know, this feeling like the year.
Marshall County feels like a better football team. They felt
like they got a lot of things in their favor.
The game was at their place. Graves County is not
(20:35):
having a good year. That's the first time since two
thousand and three that Graves County went into the matchup
with a worse record than Marshall County. So Marshall's feeling
pretty good going into Friday night, and they felt pretty
good early. Both teams kind of locked in a battle.
Not always pretty football. Early good defense, not always pretty offense,
(20:55):
and Marshall County got an early field goal.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
They feel good.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
They're up three to nothing, all right, they moved the
foot ball enough, they did enough, they settled for the
field goal, but they got it in Graves County trails
three nothing. Then Graves County comes out of the second
quarter midway through the second quarter and they get a
touchdown toss body Vikassovik gets one from Jase Houston fifteen
(21:18):
yards and the Eagles get on the board and take
their first lead of the game, which would be them
taking their first lead and it'd be the last time
that Marshall lad All game. So seven to three, Graves
on top. Then a little bit later, Houston runs one
in two forty nine left in the quarter. It's fourteen
to three. Graves County now Graves is pulled out a
(21:38):
little bit. Now Graves has got a fourteen to three lead.
In the way their defense has and is playing, you
feel like that's enough right there, And it almost was.
It almost was fourteen to three years score. Marshall County
would answer, they would end up with the reverse. They
would end up pulling one on on Graves County. They
got within their got on the Graves County side of
(21:58):
the football field on their new drive and then ran
the reverse. Graves completely sold out on what looked to
be an end around. It goes the other way and
it goes for a touchdown. Fourteen to ten, Marshall County
on the board and Graves County up four.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
That was your score at the halftime break.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Graves would get one more touchdown in the third quarter
to make it twenty one to twelve. Rozelle took one
end from twelve yards out and that would end up
being your final score. This was from the Graves County perspective. Better,
not great, much better. It felt like another week where
Graves kind of did some things that they if they
just completed the drive, if they just completed the drive
(22:36):
a few more times, this game is blown open. This
game probably should have been at least thirty five to ten,
maybe even forty two to ten. But Graves had two drives.
Two drives get within the ten yard line. I think
both got within the five yard line, and they didn't capitalize.
They couldn't come away with points. One of them was
even trying for a field goal and they got it blocked.
(22:57):
So some of the similar problems that have kind of
crept up in the last few weeks, and really it's
the same.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
The good thing is if from the grave side, you're
talking about these things in a win, whereas two weeks
in a row you were talking about them as a loss.
Things that if they had just finished drives and just
completed some things, would have gone on the road and
beat Madisonville, had them beat, had them beat, should have
won the football game. And some of those same mistakes
kept that from happening. Same thing with Apollo, some of
(23:24):
those same mistakes kept them out of the end zone
and kept them from pulling that upset. Graves could be
setting right now, right now with the second seat of
the district, but a couple of breaks here and there
that didn't go their way. That a couple of self
inflicted wounds that didn't help them out, and they lose
those games. Last week a couple of those wounds, but
this time they were able to overcome it and they
(23:45):
get the win twenty one to ten. And I thought
when things were going well, they looked really good. I
thought when things were going well, they went really well.
Marshall County from their perspective, another tough week. This was
a week where Graves felt their skill guys, their edge
guys could get it done, and they did, and that's
(24:05):
where they had the matchup one. That's where they had
Marshall kind of overwhelmed was on the edge, bringing pressure
off the edge, not up the middle to get to
the quarterback to get to the run game, and then
using their edge guys trying to get outside the tackles
to get things done on offense. And when it worked, man,
it really worked, it really did for the Eagles in
this football game. Let's take a look at the numbers.
(24:26):
Chase Houston. It was his best game by far of
his Graves County tenure, twenty of thirty two hundred and
thirty three yards. He did have two interceptions. One was
kind of not fair. I think that was the tipped
one then had one touchdown, but two hundred and thirty
three yards on twenty of thirty passing. Then Brady Rozelle
twenty five carries ninety three yards and a touchdown. Graves
on the ground thirty three carries, won twenty and two touchdowns.
(24:49):
They moved the football really well most of the game
for the first time all season. Again, you had a
couple of drives get within earshot that couldn't finish off.
Credit to Marshall County's defense. It to that strength in
that interior in that line to keep it to keep
them out of the end zone. But overall, the best
offensive performance from Graves this season from the Marshall County
(25:12):
perspective looking at their stats and then again this is
all about Graves County's defense. Marshall County throwing the football
eleven of twenty two to ninety five yards, no touchdowns,
two interceptions, on the ground, twenty six team carries one
to seventeen and one touchdown. Jet Jones, by the way,
scored that loan touchdown. He had three carries fifty seven
yards in a score. So the Eagles get the win again.
(25:34):
They have done enough that as long as they win
out this Friday and district play, they will be the
fourth seed in that district and get to the playoffs.
Now Graves still has an opportunity here. Two wins on
the season, first win in district play, but two wins
on the season, they can go get win number three
and if they can go get McCracken County, and that's
a little bit taller task then we expected a few
weeks ago. But if they go get McCracken County, who
(25:56):
they've got at home next week, that's four wins this season.
That would be you know, it's quite a turnaround for
how things started to win out. If you can when
you know your last three essentially win what four of
your last seven, not bad at all, not bad at all.
If they can make it happen for Marshall County again,
(26:17):
things get a little tougher this week because Apollo looked good.
They didn't look like a team selling for third. They
look like a team that's now sitting in the second
seat of the district. They beat Madisonville at Madisonville forty
nine to forty.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
How'd they do it?
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Because they throw the football and they throw it well,
and again that's not the strength of Marshall County to
stop the edge guys and stop the vertical attack. It's
not their strength. Their strength is trying to beat you
up on the interior, beat you up on the line.
So I actually don't think this matchup favors Marshall County.
You know, in football it's all about matchups, and I
don't think this one favors them. That does not mean
they can't go play it close. That does not mean
(26:51):
they can't go make it a football game. That doesn't
mean they can't find a way to win the football games. Absolutely,
But I just the way Apolo looked last week. Now,
this could be a hangover, This could be a letdown
for Apollo, right, This could be a trap game for
Apollo not to finish out. But it is a lot
tougher this week. And then they go to Calloway and
again that's a winnable game for Marshall, but Calloway playing
(27:13):
good football this year. I'm rooting for the Marshals. I
know people at times think I'm like anti Marshall. I'm
a Marshall kid, my kids go to Marshall. I'm rooting
for the Marshalls to get this done. I want to
see them get over the hump. I had a couple
of people in the press box Friday night, a couple
of Marshall County people, friends of mine. They said, do
you think we'll ever kind of get it going? Like
(27:34):
we feel like there's some momentum, we feel like that,
but it's just like every time you feel that way,
you in the season and you're back to just three wins,
you're back to I said, I don't know. I think so.
I think I think one day it's going to happen.
You tell people all the time that Marshall County football
for a while, for a couple of decades, was really
good at one point. So yeah, I think the resources
(27:55):
are there, the size of the school is there, the
size of the student body is there. I think it
can happen. Yeah, And I think they still have a
chance to do something special.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
They do.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Man, you go shock Apollo this week. It's at home.
It's lined up for you. You go get callaway. That's not
only four, that's five wins on the season. It's a start.
Let's go get it done, all right. That was Graves
and Marshall again twenty straight by the way for the Eagles.
That's also insane. I don't care how bad you are
or how good you are, or how those matchups came in.
(28:27):
And then there are three really close games in those
twenty years, and a lot of those games ended up
being closer than they should be at times. To win
twenty straight over anybody, we know how impressive that is.
So Graves and Marshall. Then you had McCracken County Christian County.
This one was just you knew this was going to
go this way, sixty three to twenty McCracken County over
(28:48):
Christian County. Mustang scored on every one of their offensive
possessions in the game. Did you hear me just say that?
They scored on every single offensive possession of the game. Yeah,
even after getting the running clock the second quarter. They
ended up putting up four hundred and sixty eight yards
of total offense and took a complete sweep of district foes.
And they look to do that when they play at
(29:09):
Henderson County this week. Let's look at McCracken County quickly,
and then we're out of time. Got to wrap it up.
Let's look at the Mustangs again, big win. We knew
they would Christian County on their sixth coach in seven years.
I know he's an interim coach, but it still counts.
And McCracken County did what McCracken County should do. They
took care of business. Sixty three twenty ends up being
(29:30):
your final the Mustangs. Now I all get to their
wins inner moment. Well, we'll get to that in a moment.
But Madix O'Neill, who's done. Listen when McCracken County turned
the corner this year, Madix O'Neill was the big reason.
He got healthy, he got better, and he's playing like
the senior we all know he can be. He's playing
like the quarterback that we've all known he can be.
(29:50):
He's playing to his full potential. As my point, and
as he goes, they go because he's putting up numbers
and they're putting up points. He was fifteen of twenty
two hundred and six yards, five touchdown, no picks.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
That's a pretty good knot at the office.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
McCracken County ran the football twenty six times for two
hundred and nineteen yards and three more touchdowns, and they
get the win and they get a battle this week
at Henderson County. This is going to be a battle.
We'll get more into it later this week. The McCracken
County right now is four and four on the season.
Henderson County, by the way, they are what one, two,
three four, they're four and four on the season. Traditionally
(30:27):
a great battle between these two schools. It's at Henderson
this season. Last year McCracken County won this game fifty
nine to fifty seven. I remember it was just that crazy,
crazy game. McCracken has won the last two. Henderson probably
the favorite. But the way McCracken County's offense is playing, listen,
they're not interested in stopping on defense because they know
(30:48):
they're going to outscore you on offense. And they have
and they are and they have really essentially three of
their last four games, which is why they got wins.
The only team they fell to was Murray and it
ends up being a difference of a field goal. So
O'Neill healthy turning the corner this season, the Mustangs offense
turning the corner, and here they are in the driver's
(31:09):
seat to go do something special in district play and
finish it out. This week we'll talk about that. On Wednesday,
we'll get into that and so much more from this week.
On Wednesday, volleyball scores will have the recap of the
district tournaments then as well. Hope you've enjoyed it. We're
out of time. I'll talk to you then. This has
been reaching one sports
